UN’ORCHESTRA DI DONNE STA RIBALTANDO GLI STEREOTIPI

Se non ci viene in mente il nome di una direttrice d’orchestra o di una compositrice, è perché fino a pochi decenni fa, per fattori principalmente culturali, le donne sono state quasi escluse dallo studio e dai mestieri della musica. L’Orchestra Olimpia, collettivo di musiciste nato nel 2018 da un’idea di Roberta Pandolfi e Francesca Perrotta ribalta questo paradigma promuovendo il ruolo femminile nella musica. L’orchestra, costituita interamente da donne, in diverse parti del mondo porta avanti progetti a tutela della parità di genere. Tra questi, il sostegno agli studi e alla professione delle musiciste afghane di Ensemble Zohra, unica orchestra femminile del mondo islamico, e l’organizzazione del Musicfor Freedom con il primo concerto italiano dell’orchestra giovanile dell’Afghanistan, ora esiliata in Portogallo, poiché con il ritorno dei talebani a Kabul fare musica è diventato un crimine perseguibile con la galera e la morte.

L’ultimo progetto è il podcast DiClassica, un racconto in 8 puntate della vita e dell’opera di musiciste che, scardinando le convenzioni sociali e culturali, hanno dato un contributo importante all’evoluzione del pensiero musicale, senza trovare il giusto spazio nella memoria collettiva, come Sofja Gubaidulina, compositrice russa durante il periodo stalinista, o Chen Yi che ha vissuto l’era della Rivoluzione culturale di Mao, Julia Wolf che ha influenzato il post-minimalismo newyorkese, il prodigio americano Amy Beach, o Sylvia Caduff, pioniera come direttrice – non direttore – d’orchestra. Con la voce di Valentina Lo Surdo, è stato lanciato l’8 marzo per Pesaro 2024 – Capitale italiana della cultura.

ROUGHLY TRANSLATED STORY (Originally published in Portuguese)

Audrey is still living with her mother and it cost them much every month to pay their rent. Although small, she was situated in one of the most elegant districts of London. Their meager income didn't allow them to spend much money on clothes, so Audrey calculated and thought long and hard before making any decision about buying a new dress. Her favorite outfit at that time was tight black pants, a high-necked sweater to hide her bony cleavage, and heeled shoes so as not to show her height.

Elestree Studios photographers and operators confessed that Audrey was the most photogenic of the young stars.

"That girl is a special case," they declared. "There is no angle that is wrong in her figure. All her photographs are magnificent."

"I'm the star at the end of the conversation when separating from Audrey."

"Her wealth of expression, her reactions to the camera, her mobility. her face," enthused director Henry Cass, "Audrey knows how to say everything with her face, wonderful."

In War and Peace, Audrey dances twice: one with Vittorio Gassman and one with her own husband, Mel Ferrer. She does so with exquisite grace and also with the lightness of a swan carried by the rhythm of the music. Perhaps the reader does not know that the famous ballerina Marova, her dance teacher, still sighs, unhappily, saying, "She shouldn't have gone into the movies. We lost a great dancer!"

Her ability to work, her bold commitment to improve herself despite her fragile appearance, and her health, which had not been completely restored, immediately aroused the admiration and affection of her companions. Naturally, this affection and devoted admiration that men expressed unconditionally was not shared by women.

The young stars of Elstree and even the well-known and prestigious actresses saw alarm and disgust at the rose growing at their feet and called the publicity created around her exaggerated.

On one occasion in the studios, they gave a party to the staff, which Audrey attended, surrounded as usual by a large contingent of male elements. One of the famous stars present permitted herself to censure Audrey with rudeness:

"I can't understand what some men see in that girl," she said in a derogatory tone. "Thin and smooth as a board and not a hint of sex appeal."

Audrey, athough aware of the jealousy because of her popularity, did not show her displeasure. With her peculiar grace and amiability, she knew how to lead a conversation with such charming spontaneity and the spiteful star had to declare herself defeated.

Audrey was delighted to have met her and to have listened to her talk about her successes on screen in the film that she was acting in, with interest and attention, refraining from saying a word about her own activities as a fledgling actress.

"Really delightful!" commented the star at the end of the conversation when separating from Audrey.

The young woman's short interventions in the films of ABC followed one after the other, without giving her the desired glory. After the productions previously mentioned, Audrey worked on The Secret People, in which the star Valentina Cortese acted.

Audrey carried out in War and Peace a thorny obligation: riding a horse. Even in this, she once again demonstrated the grace and resourcefulness that characterized her attitude.

In 1952, the famous orchestra leader Ray Ventura, hired her for a film.

"We will go to Monte Carlo, on the French Côte d'Azur."

Audrey thus realized one of her main aspirations to work outside England, which allowed her to broaden her field.

Pesaro 2024 celebra la Giornata internazionale della donna con una serie di appuntamenti e iniziative "che abbracciano tutti gli aspetti dell'impegno - spiegano Daniele Vimini, vicesindaco assessore alla Bellezza e Camilla Murgia, assessora alla Crescita e alla Gentilezza del Comune di Pesaro - messo in campo dalle istituzioni, dalla società civile, dalle singole figure del territorio che si sono battute per la libertà e per i diritti delle donne. Modelli di emancipazione e rinascita da cui è ancora possibile trarre spunti di riflessione e azione sulla condizione femminile". Biosfera - "Raccolte per non dimenticare" "Raccolte per non dimenticare" è il titolo del programma (ideato e reso immagine dalla studentessa Agata Cecchini dell'istituto agrario Cecchi) che la Biosfera di Pesaro 2024 – Capitale italiana della cultura, presenterà - alle ore 17, 19, 21, 23 - in occasione della Giornata. I 2 milioni di Led che compongono l'installazione scultoreo-digitale di 4 metri di diametro, collocata in piazza del Popolo, si coloreranno e riempiranno delle immagini dedicate a 7 figure femminili che hanno segnato la storia del territorio, scelte e raccontate da studentesse e studenti del liceo artistico Mengaroni: Wanda De Angelis (filantropa, a cui è dedicata la Fondazione Wanda Di Ferdinando); Adele Bei (cantianese, sindacalista e politica, componente dell'Assemblea costituente), Elsa De Giorgi (attrice, regista e scrittrice pesarese), Lea e Sparta Trivella (partigiane e femministe di Pesaro), Costanza Monti Perticari (poetessa), Ave Ninchi (attrice anconetana), Rosina Frulla (partigiana di Pesaro). La Capitale italiana della cultura rivolgerà avrà anche uno sguardo internazionale, con le immagini che permetteranno ai presenti di tuffarsi nei colori e nelle parole di Frida Kahlo (pittrice messicana surrealista). La prima 'proiezione' sarà alle ore 17, alla presenza dell'Amministrazione comunale e delle associazioni della città. DiClassica - Lancio podcast Julia Wolfe Pesaro 2024 prosegue i suoi appuntamenti, alle ore 18.30, al 'GRA' non solo cibo da cortile' per l'evento di lancio di DiClassica, il podcast divulgativo di 8 puntate (durata 15/20 minuti) per raccontare vita e opera di 8 straordinarie musiciste e compositrici degli ultimi due secoli, spesso dimenticate dalla cultura mainstream. Il pomeriggio, prevede una performance di danza contemporanea a cura di Masako Matsushita sulla musica di Reeling di Julia Wolfe e, a seguire, dj set di musica classica. Nel corso dell'evento è previsto un collegamento in diretta con Caterpillar, e con Massimo Cirri e Sara Zambotti, conduttori del programma di Rai Radio2, radio ufficiale di Pesaro 2024. La puntata dell'8 marzo è dedicata a Julia Wolfe (1958), "Una ribelle della musica classica". Racconterà la vita e l'opera della compositrice americana, sottolineando il suo audace approccio alla fusione di stili musicali. Die Zauberflote, Opera di Roma

Bellissima e originale messa in scena diretta da Damiano Michieletto, questa versione dell'opera Mozartiana vede l'azione collocata in una vecchia scuola. Il percorso iniziatico di Tamino diventa quindi quello di uno scolaro e i vari personaggi si allineano a questo tema con naturalezza. Papageno diventa quindi un bidello, le tre cortigiane delle suore, Sarastro il preside e così via. Il tutto in una scena scarna e impreziosita da una lavanderia lavagna dove appaiono disegni animati che accompagnano l'azione.

Lo spettacolo, originariamente prodotto per il teatro della Fenice nel 2015, rivela ancora tutta la sua originalità e freschezza.

Ottima la conduzione da parte del giovane Maestro Michele Spotti mentre sulle voci un mix di giudizio.

At this point the foundation falls and we're thrust into phase 2, where the music becomes crazy and chaotic and he unleashes his true form after we were only shown the earlier form for like 2 minutes.

"Meanwhile, the fight is not over." "What!?" "True form activate."

...Well, his head changed. In fact, that's the name of the game here. His head will periodically cycle through a few forms - a tank for physical attack, a coffin containing the late Pink Panther for defense, a penis wizard man for magic, and a treasure box for status ailments up the wazoo.

Princess Peach is your best bet.

His body works more like Exor's eyes - if you damage it enough it'll temporarily be unable to attack.

Next up he changed to penis-wizard mode.

No Magnum yet - just a bunch of Bullet Bills and stuff.

Apparently it's not a weird mouth under the hood - it's his little crown!

Next form! It's... This.

This mode is dedicated to defense - or defence, if you're British. It's immune to magic, so you'll be sorry if you wasted your Ultra Flame on that.

Also, the credits have gone all retro. This is either cute or lazy, depending on your sliding scale of idealism v.s cynicism.

Si allarga l'offerta musicale nella nostra città

Al fianco delle collaudate AstiMusica e AstiJazz, fanno capolino due nuove rassegne: AstiRap, dedicata al pubblico più giovane, e AstiLirica. Questo allargamento di orizzonti, già nel progetto di "Capitale della Cultura 2025", diventa operativo subito, nella consapevolezza che il corale ed entusiastico lavoro svolto per la candidatura non va disperso, ma canalizzato per portare immediatamente i suoi frutti. L’Italia è conosciuta e apprezzata nel mondo per essere stata la culla dell’opera lirica ma anche per la costanza nella valorizzazione di questo genere musicale grazie ai suoi importanti festival estivi come quello della Valle D’Itria e quelli di Pesaro (Rossini Opera Festival) e Macerata (Macerata Opera Festival), solo per citarne alcuni. Asti si affaccia in punta di piedi su questo importante scenario musicale con una prima ambiziosa edizione che prevede quattro appuntamenti al Teatro Alfieri, tutti alle ore 21. Direzione artistica Renato Bonajuto.

"L'estate musicale astigiana da quest'anno si amplia per abbracciare una platea di pubblico sempre più numeroso - è il commento del Sindaco di Asti Maurizio Rasero e dell'Assessore alla Cultura Paride Candelaresi - Protagonista del mese di luglio sarà, infatti, l'opera lirica. AstiLirica si ispira ai tradizionali festival estivi italiani dedicati a questo genere musicale. L'opera abbonda di tradizioni e valori che attraversano le generazioni e ci hanno resi importanti nel mondo. Dopo il grande successo invernale del "Don Giovanni" di Mozart a teatro Alfieri, protagonista di recensioni entusiastiche su riviste specializzate nazionali e internazionali, l'amministrazione ha deciso di proporre al pubblico un bouquet musicale composto da quattro titoli di grande gusto e raffinatezza. L'intenzione è quella di attirare ulteriormente l'attenzione della critica e offrire al pubblico spettacoli di grande qualità rivolgendoci a un pubblico di melomani ma aprendo le porte anche a un pubblico curioso che desidera avvicinarsi al genere".

Ognuna delle rappresentazioni sarà illustrata da un musicologo o un esperto della materia pochi minuti. Alle 21 l’apertura della serata sarà infatti sempre affidata a “L’opera in 5 minuti”, ovvero un breve momento divulgativo in cui verranno introdotti trama, bellezze e curiosità su cui concentrarsi, e verrà spiegato brevemente l’aspetto musicale dell’opera.

Si inizia giovedì 6 luglio con Pimpinone, ovvero le nozze infelici, intermezzo giocoso di Georg Philipp Telemann, in lingua italiana, con parti recitate affidate agli attori Ignazio Perniciaro (Pimpinone) e Lauretta Civiero (Vespetta). Nei medesimi ruoli cantano il baritono Davide Rocca e il soprano Valentina Porcheddu. Suona l'Asti Sistema Orchestra, ensemble giovanile d'eccellenza, diretta da Fabio Poggi, che cura anche la versione ritmica italiana dei recitativi e delle arie originariamente in tedesco.

Lunedì 24 luglio si passa al Novecento con La voix humaine, tragédie lyrique di Francis Poulenc, tratta dalla piéce omonima di Jean Cocteau, che firma anche del libretto, a 60 anni dalla morte dei due autori. Nelle panni di «Lei» (Elle) canta il soprano Paoletta Marrocu, fra le principali interpreti del ruolo sulla scena internazionale. Ad accompagnarla, il pianista Lorenzo Masoni, la regia è di Siria Colella.

Mercoledì 26 luglio è la volta di un capolavoro della musica sacra: Stabat Mater di Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, presentato in forma scenica. L'elegante allestimento è del Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa di Savona per la regia di Renato Bonajuto. Protagonisti sono il soprano Ksenia Bomarsi e il mezzosoprano Sofia Janelidze. Interagiscono con loro i figuranti Ilia Romano, Christian Rando, Michela Castellani e Federica Bastioni. Alla guida di Voxsonus Ensemble, la direttrice Manuela Ranno.

Asti Lirica si chiude giovedì 27 luglio con il recital del grande baritono Ambrogio Maestri, accompagnato al pianoforte da Enrico Zucca. Con lui si esibiscono il soprano Eleonora Boaretto e il violinista Leonardo Moretti.

The Beauty of Live Albums

When I listened to what we know as a live album I was in complete awe- I couldn’t fathom the idea of an artist’s performance straight from a concert trickling over my earphones, which is why I feel so fascinated by them. The actual recording process isn’t anything to write home about, really, they just record straight from the soundboard used to help with the mixing of several sources (i.e. microphones, instruments, etc) at a concert. These live albums can be recorded all at once in one show, or alternatively record different songs in multiple shows. What makes live albums so interesting is that artists can never sound the same more than once, every performance has even just a slight difference from the last, but with these albums, we can all enjoy the same performances as if we were on that very show. The first live album I ever fully listened to from beginning to end (because come on- you have to listen to albums in their respective order) was SHINee WORLD IV, the 4th concert by the legendary korean boy group SHINee, an album I still listen to to this day, I’m certain it gets better with every listen. My favorite live album at the moment is by australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, and it’s titled “The Feeling of Falling Upwards”, a very fitting name, given the unreal nature of the concert it belongs to. Live from The Royal Albert Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the UK, the band had an entire choir and orchestra as accompaniment to their own sound, which mixed together beautifully. As soon as that first second hit my ears I was enchanted, it’s a gorgeously thought out body of work, starting with the setlist- a mix of fan favorites and songs from their latest album (their best body of work to date in my opinion), to their vocals and the arrangements they put together. This album moves me in a way very few albums have, and I don’t think many albums will, they truly encapsulate The Feeling of Falling Upwards in an hour-long concert. If any of your favorite artists have a live album in their catalog, I strongly suggest you put on your earbuds and really listen to them, every single note and chord, the experience is definitely worth it.
