so here you are, sitting in a chair in the dark. that is, until jade turns on a lamp in his room.

he has a brush in his right hand, and a container of… face mask in his right. you’re VERY unsure whether or not to trust him..

“jade… what is that?” you’re extremely concerned. the ‘face mask’ looks… questionable.

he smiles at you, “it’s the new face mask i’ve fabricated. there’s no turning back now, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

you want to turn back. something in his tone of voice was telling you to run away, but you couldn’t figure out what it was. well, you only live once!

“alright, just get it over with.”

you’ve never seen jade so pleased in his life.

“so? was it to your liking?”

everything had finally been over, and that whole experience was pretty relaxing. your skin even feels nicer and moisturized, too!

you closed your eyes in relaxation, “that was pretty nice. jade, can i know what you put in the face mask now?”

“ah, right. i shall tell you now, seeing you went along with this.” jade bent down next to your ear and whispered the ingredients in his lovely face mask.

and he had a few seconds of pleasure watching as your face went from happy-go-lucky to absolutely HORRIFIED.

jade grinned, showing off all of his sharp teeth. “oh? what’s wrong? you’re looking paler than usual, prefect.”

“i… you—! you put—… ahh.. GAH! i knew i should’ve have trusted you, you—!”

you can be as upset with him as you want (although you weren’t really, just grossed out)! but you already put the face mask on your face.

and what exactly did he put in the face mask? well, that’s for your imagination to figure out.

“i’m so glad you’re here, shrimpy!”

“why does your face mask look so… red?” you stare at the bowl on the counter. it’s not a gentle, rose red. no no no! it’s more of a… ‘riddle’s hair’ coloured red.

“ehh? are you doubting me?” floyd pouts, “i convinced you to come all the way here and you came here to doubt me?”

you really didn’t know if you should’ve told him the truth, “of course not! i’m not here to doubt you at all! i just hope you didn’t put anything weird in it. i know jade would have put weird things in it if i was sitting here with him…”

“well you aren’t sitting here with jade. so just trust me!” he has the brush close to your face, already having lots of the red mysterious face mask on it.

“WAAAAAAHAAAHAHAHA—! FLOYD! YOU SAID YOU DIDN’T PUT ANYTHING WEIRD IN IT! IT BURNS…!“

“i didn’t! all i did was put a few spicy things in it and grind, like… hmmm, chili peppers. and other spicy stuff! you look so funny when you’re running around screaming, ahaha!” at this point, floyd’s laughing at your suffering for his own amusement. how cruel.

it’s not like this would do anything major to your skin, but you just hoped your face didn’t stain red at the very least. this was totally unfair though!

you had gotten most of it off your face by the time you were done scrubbing it off with water, but your face still tingled. floyd still hadn’t finished laughing at you, but you were about to make him stop.

you took the bowl and threw it at his face.

“little shrimp… that wasn’t very nice of you! that hurt. and my skin feels weird now.”

crossing your arms, you sighed. “should have thought of that before you decided to put the face mask on me! i was just giving you a taste of your own medicine. hmph!”

floyd beamed, satisfied with todays result. “hehe. i would do it all over again if i could.”

you couldn’t help but also smile. as painful as it was, you had to admit it was pretty fun.

the observatory is situated halfway down the nether line between electrasweet and some other town, tucked just off the tunnel and through a crack in the wall like it's not meant to be found. arturo finds it anyway, in some desperate late-night hunt down astronomy forums for a place to watch the stars that isn't within city limits. nothing the mayor had her hands in would have the answer.

it's further out than ae's ever gone - and ae's never gone in the nether, either, before this. the emptiness of the roof-sky makes ae nauseous, viciously so, and ae tries not to look through the glass room of the tunnel as ae walks down and down and down. the portal lets out in an empty field, barren besides the flowers and the observatory, made from shifting concrete shades and a base of dark stone that has it almost blending into the night sky.

arturo doesn't go in the door. ae flies up, instead, and slips in through a hatch. faintly, distantly, it registers as trespassing, but all ae can feel is the dull relief that nobody's up there now. nobody to see as ae hurries to the telescope and looks through the viewer.

nobody to see when ae staggers back from it like it burned vaer.

"the stars are gone," ae says. it's too loud, in the silent room. "the stars are... gone."

ae escapes back out into the field outside and retches into the grass, pulling vaer hair out of the way, refusing to look up. there's just- static, up there. is the sun even real? the thought makes vaer sick again. when vaer knees are steady enough to hold vaer weight, ae stands back up, wiping off vaer mouth and staring blankly out at the horizon.

isn't this what you wanted?

arturo can't brave the nether again, not with its static-sky and not like this. ae picks a direction and begins to walk instead, uncaring of if it's the right way back or how long it'll be like this.

when dawn breaks, it'll still all be so far away.

Destiny-tober, #4; Sword Logic

I love this little Guardian I made, even if ve hasn't shown up in my fic yet. One of these days..

They didn't get it.

They just didn't get it. No one did. No one understood it like ve did. As much as ve wanted to help, wanted to teach, no one could understand it like ve did.

Ve peeked out from the corner ve hid in, vaer eyes watching the empty halls slowly crowd with Thrall. The sight of the beings brought a warmth to vaer heart. Their heavy stomping, their sharp claws, their eyeless faces.. It was entrancing.

The ground below them shook slightly from loud, heavy steps and they snapped around to look at the approaching Hive. A massive knight trudged through the entrance to their cave, their heavy steps leaving prints in the ground. They came to a slow stop beside the little hiding spot ve stood in.

Ve held vaer breath. The Knight twisted and turned, head searching around, for something.. Their chitin raised and lowered as they breathed, claws twitching and clenching into fists, the beautiful green glow of its eyes pouring across the dark hiding spot ve stood in.

They trailed off further into the cave. Ve let out a heavy sigh, one hand over vaer chest. Vaer heart was pounding. Adrenaline ran through vaer body, vaer muscles twitching ever so slightly, hands trembling in vaer grasp.

What a close encounter with such a beautiful, powerful being. Oh the lengths they had to have taken to become a Knight, to rise from the station of a Thrall into the power and authority they deserved. Vaer body shuddered. Oh, what ve would give to get closer to them.

Chitin covered vaer body. Carefully stitched together, with the utmost love and skill, unfortunately relegated to clothing and armor and not proper skin. The things ve would give to have such chitin grow on vaerself..

Ve shuddered once more. What a beautiful thought. Chitin on vaer arms and legs, lining vaer spine, covering vaer chest like tough armor. Three green eyes on vaer face, glowing into the night, lighting vaer vision. Surely ve would be an Acolyte, or perhaps even a Wizard or maybe a Knight..

Oh, if only those silly Guardians didn't destroy the heart of that Wish Dragon.. whatever her name was. Ve would surely wish to become a Hive, to prove themself through the Sword Logic, to grow up the chain of command and justify vaer existence. Even if the Dragon offered more, the power to become a Hive Prince.. or Princess.. maybe even on the power of the Gods… Ve would reject it. Ve would reach the power of their station through the Sword Logic alone, through the truth of violence and death.

Well, ve would have to make do. Regardless of what ve was born as, ve was still Hive. Always Hive. Ve would live by the Hive, by the Sword Logic, by the Truth of the world. Maybe one day, someday, the brood would welcome a new sibling and truly take vaer in. But for now, ve was content watching their brood live. Content pitting vaer brood against the creatures nearby, testing their conviction to the Sword Logic, letting them experience the beauty of battle and power. Ve was happy watching them grow. A shudder flying down vaer spine. Breaths growing heavy watching them fight. Biting vaer tongue and holding tightly to vaer arms to stop vaerself from rushing in and joining them.

Ve was content for now.

okay so i’ll try to write a better pinned post once i’m more used to this blog but for now hi, i’m cricket (or bug, i haven’t decided which one is my “real” name yet so i’m just using both) and this is my personal blog, our system account is @helianthusfam and there’s a little more information about me on this page of our listography but i’ll try to summarize it here

i’m about 19 (physically and mentally), i have a whole list of pronouns (with conjugations if you need that!) but my favorites right now are ce/cir and fae/faer (or vae/vaer), although she/her and they/them are always fine too, my gender is kind of complicated but i guess the short version is that i’m an ftm trans girl*, i like bugs and science and dried apples and learning new things and watching those videos where they show you how they manufacture things like pencils and bubblegum, i don’t front a lot but quetzal’s helping me try to front more, and my hot take is that most people could stand to be a little nicer to kids

i’m going to be tagging original posts as “cricket noises” for now and once i have more tags in place i’ll make a full list but i don’t really see any point in doing it now with just one tag

*i’m a fictive which is a part of why it’s so complicated but basically i was a trans girl but i wasn’t human and we had very little sexual dimorphism so i wouldn’t even call myself trans anymore if it weren’t for the fact that my system is on testosterone and looks pretty much like a very short boy so i do sort of actually have more gender-related feelings than i did before and i really don’t know how else to talk about that without calling myself trans
