What’s in a NAME? After watching the attached video clip by Hollywood Actress - Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba. I felt the need to showcase the extraordinary meaning of my Nigerian name and salute my amazing African heritage. I am somewhat known by my English name, which is Yvonne but I never cease to state that my Nigerian name is Ndidiamaka (from the Igbo tribe), which means ‘Patience is a Virtue’ or ‘Patience is the Key’. Also like Uzoamaka stated: I too tried to change the name to either: Di, DiDi, Ndy, Ndyamaka - just to make it easier for other people to pronounce it but that actually lost the true essence and meaning of my name and as I got older & wiser in realising that this was part of my Journey, I had to ‘damn’ any excuse of pronunciation difficulties and insist that it is pronounced correctly as this name helped define who I am and where I am going. I also remember when I was younger, telling my parents that it was such an irony to assign that name to me as I was the least qualified to carry the mantle of having that attached to me as ‘patience’ definitely did not apply to any part of my life (🤣🤣🤣). That all changed when I had my son who forcefully taught me the real meaning. And also through subsequent events that has happened, I can truly testify that the name ‘Ndidiamaka’ was predestined to be part of my Journey... So here’s to accepting your NAME, no matter how unique or weird people might think it is. Wear IT, Carry IT & Own IT with pride!!!
