made a couple visits to my local Print & Stationary Store over the last couple days to get me paws on some Warhammering Supplies I'd needed and here's The Haul;
1- typed out and printed off 2 copies of the Leviathan Mission Pack from images I'd found online because I found playing without a physical copy to be a huge pain in the ass and I'd still not been able to get my paws on a proper copy despite my best efforts, which I then stuck into binders with dividers for easy use - one copy (in a puppy binder!!) for me to use and one for my opponent to reference
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Includes game setup structure, Deployment Zone diagrams, Mission Rule Deck, Primary Mission Deck, Secondary Mission Deck, and Gambit Deck.
I'm real happy with how those came out, and am gonna scrawl out a couple index cards to keep on the table to remind on what missions are active.
2- this took a day of waiting but when I was typing out Mission Setup document I stumbled on a line in there - "Missions are played on rectangular battlefields whose dimensions are approximately 44x60 inches. This can be achieved by placing four battlezone boards flat on a surface next to each other." - that last bit forced a lightbulb moment in my head because I still had the paper play mat that came with the Recruit Edition Starter Set, which is the same size as the battlezone boards mentioned,,,
Tumblr media
initially I'd wanted to get them laminated but that was too expensive, so i got four photocopies of my paper mat made on matte poster paper, ready for use as a battlemat!
3- finally when I went to pick up my new battlemat today I realized I had a couple more things I wanted printed - namely the rules needed to play my beautiful giant lady hierodule I've been painting - and also 20 copies of blank army rosters so I don't have to use scrawled index cards anymore as well as the Knights imperial armour index because that new cerastus knight lancer looks so so tastey (also brought files to print IA indexes for tau, gk, and necrons, but figured there's no way im usin em any time soon so no point printing)
Tumblr media
haven't shoved all that in binders just yet but I will eventually, got an assignment due tonight I need to force myself to write first

Je te vois - Part 1
Dark!Jorah x Daenerys
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/41178564/chapters/103228245
Warnings: Story contains rape/noncon elements. Jorah is the bad guy. Please proceed with caution if that is not your cup of tea.
Summary: Daenerys' life takes a different turn when her boss, Jorah Mormont, gives her the attention she didn't expect.
Tumblr media
Invisible. That’s how Daenerys would describe her existence in this company.
Because no one really bats an eye at an assistant. No one really cares whether they’re there or not, and the only time they truly get noticed is when someone needs a cup of coffee to fuel their stale brain from the stress of work or when documents need to be scanned, photocopied, or filed away.
But it’s not like Daenerys complains about not being seen. If she’s being honest, she likes blending in the background. To be that unknown presence in the cubicle by the department entrance. For despite working such a menial job, she’s lucky to have enough time for herself. That when no one requires her assistance in doing such a simple task, she gets to focus on her hobby: photography. Editing the photos she’s taken back from her trip to Hawaii and posting them on her Instagram account dedicated to her avocation and watching the numbers on the hearts increase by the hour.
She doesn’t really have friends in the company either. Although it may seem lonely at times, she prefers it that way. Prefers to have her alone time during breaks and not indulge in office gossip that only brings chaos to people’s lives. Though she does have one friend, she doesn’t even know if she’s to call him her friend for he’s the CEO of the company.
As invisible as she can be, she feels seen when Jorah is around. For he’s the only one that greets her a ‘Good Morning’ when they pass each other at the elevator and a ‘Good Night’ when he sees her finishing the last of her work, typing out her tasks for the next day when he goes to her floor to discuss the daily reports with her department head, Tyrion Lannister.
“I didn’t know you liked to take photographs.” He tells her one afternoon when he takes his seat across from her after they bump into each other during her lunch break at her favorite cafe, five blocks from the office building.
She couldn’t help but feel shy at the sudden encounter and invited him to join her at her table. It would have been awkward if she just ignored him and Jorah has been nothing but kind to her, supportive even when he sees her slumped against the copier, telling him of her woes in life when he asks what’s wrong.
“I—” She stammers, unsure how he got such information.
“I was going through the internet to look up pictures of beaches; I wanted to change my wallpaper because I already miss the summer,” He chuckles at his explanation. “—when your photo of Hawaii came up on the results.” He then takes out his phone and scrolls through the screen before laying it flat on the table to show Daenerys the photo she took of a sunset on the beach of O’ahu during her trip last year. “This is truly stunning. You have an eye for beauty, Daenerys.” He remarks and she feels the blush rise up her cheeks.
It’s the first time in years that anyone has truly said anything positive about her craft. Sure she gets comments of heart and fire emojis and the likes she gets are very generous, but to receive a compliment from someone she knows, someone she looks up to, means so much to her. Because not even Jon has said anything positive about her pictures, even if it was photos of him, especially if it was photos of him.
Yes, he’d show his appreciation through liking it on the app but as his girlfriend, she expected more. For him to show more enthusiasm in supporting her and her love for the craft, to cheer her on when no one else does, and to be her number one fan. But she’s never gotten that from Jon, even in the early stages of their relationship.
It’s even now come to the point where she feels distant from him with the days passing that they rarely interact with each other, Jon always saying that he’s too tired from his security job to do anything or that he’s caught up with another contract that would take him hours before he got to visit her at her place.
But she holds on, putting into the thought that it’s their work keeping them from each other and not their differences. That once his work gives him a break, a break that they desperately need, they would be able to gravitate back into each other's arms and rekindle the love they found 2 years ago.
“Why don’t you do it professionally?” Her thoughts get cut off when she hears Jorah’s question, blinking her eyes back into reality as she faces the man in front of her nursing a glass of orange juice while his sandwich sits on his plate with only a couple of bites in.
“I don’t think I’m that good to turn it into a career.” She confesses, a sad smile on her lips as she pokes around her pasta bowl, twirling the noodles lazily before taking a bite. “Besides,” she mumbles with a mouthful, chewing quickly to finish the food, and adds, “I don’t know anyone who would hire an amateur like me. It takes experience and a lot of luck to succeed in the industry, let alone get in it.”
She hears Jorah hum while his fingers tap lightly on the table as he keeps his eyes on her. “Now that you mention it, I do have a friend in publishing. I could show him your account and give a good word for you.” He smiles. “And he may give you a job at his firm.”
“I—That would be amazing, Mr. Mor—Jorah,” She corrects herself, hope filling her heart at his words. “I would be very grateful for such an opportunity but I won’t expect it.”
“I’ll see what I can do then.” Jorah grins, holding his glass of juice up to her, Daenerys doing the same with her iced tea and clinking it with his beverage.
She studies him as she takes a sip of her drink, admiring how handsome Jorah looks with his yellow shirt poking through his navy jacket and his navy tie to match, making him look like a bar of gold amongst lumps of coal at such a casual setting as the cafe. His whole persona just exudes confidence and it makes her feel shy that he’s wasting his time with someone so plain as her.
Jorah continues to ask questions about her hobby as they continue on with lunch, and although feeling slightly awkward that someone of his status would seem interested in something someone like her does as a past time, she answers them truthfully, telling him that she would one day want to visit Scotland and take photos of the picturesque villages that surround the sea.
Once they finish their meals, Daenerys calls for the bill only to sit in utter shock when Jorah gives his card to the server without even looking at the tally, a smile playing on his lips, seemingly amused at her reaction.
“Thank you for lunch.” She tells him with a sad smile while climbing the steps to the building, Daenerys frowning when Jorah reaches for the handle of the glass doors before she could, their roles seemingly having reversed. She’s an assistant and as such, she should be the one paying for her boss’ food. That she should be the one holding the door for the CEO. It’s what she does with Cersei and she’s not even an executive.
She doesn’t miss the look the other employees in the lobby give her when she and Jorah walk in, especially the look on the receptionist’s face, she can’t tell if it’s shock or envy, as they make their way to the hall of elevators.
“I’ll pay you back on Friday.” She promises, the frown deepening on her face when Jorah responds with a chuckle.
“Nonsense. The pleasure was all mine.” He smiles at her, pressing the up button of the elevator when they stand in front of the metal doors. “You can never put a price on spending time with someone as interesting as you.”
The blush appears a second time on her cheeks, her hands fiddling over her skirt as they wait for the elevator. The shyness she feels makes Daenerys almost jump in when the doors part, moving herself to the side when Jorah walks in after her, pressing the button to her floor then his.
They stand in silence when the doors close, the unknown tension filling the enclosed space as it’s only the two of them inside and she can’t help but notice how Jorah’s eyes never leave her when she looks up and sees their reflection on the metal surface. And it annoys her how awkward she becomes at times in his presence, his attentiveness making her feel glad yet overwhelmed at the same time. But she can’t help but think that he’s only talking to her because no one else does. A pity project of his own.
“This is me.” She says when the elevator dings, signaling their arrival, stepping outside the lift and turning around to bid her goodbye to her boss. “Thank you again, Mr. Mormont.”
“It’s Jorah,” He corrects, leaning forward to press his finger against the open switch. “And may you enjoy the rest of the day, Daenerys.” She looks up when the elevator dings once more, Jorah stepping back once again and she doesn’t miss the wink he gives her as the doors close on him.
  -
“Finance Department. How can I direct your call?” Daenerys begins her usual line.
“Daenerys,” She freezes in her seat when she recognizes Jorah’s voice on the other end, her eyes dropping to her phone to look at the caller ID and sees an unknown number on the monochrome screen, making her curious why her boss would use a private number. “I wanted to ask you something about the Thanksgiving Party.”
She snaps herself out of her thoughts and focuses back on the receiver, typing immediately on her computer to pull out the party details that she and a couple of the committee have made. “What about the party, Mr. Mormont?” She asks.
“I told you before, you can call me Jorah.” He chuckles through the phone, but she can’t help but sense a hint of annoyance in his merry tone. “We’re friends, aren’t we? And friends call each other by their first names.”
“Yes, they do.” She answers, worrying her lip at the thought that she’s offended him.
“Yes, they do.” He echoes, hearing clearing his throat after. “I was just wondering why I didn’t see your name on the final list of attendees.” That catches her attention. Why would he be looking into that? Shouldn’t Samwell be the one double-checking the list? “Are you not going?”
“I can’t, Jorah. I’m sorry.” Why am I apologizing? She says while her fingers busy themselves on the spiral cord of the receiver. The break she’s been waiting for Jon to get finally came and she’s made several plans for them to indulge in just to catch up with each other. But not only that, the party was Black Tie and that would require her to buy a new outfit to pass the dress code with money she doesn’t even have. “I just have some personal matters to attend to. But I’ll help in finalizing everything for the event.”
“Why? What happened?” There is worry in his voice.
“Nothing. Nothing happened.” She assures, a small laugh leaving her lips in an attempt to lighten the sudden gravity of the atmosphere. “My boyfriend just finally had some days off and we’ve not had some time together in a while so we thought we might catch up.”
The line goes silent. Making Daenerys look at her phone to see if the call is still connected.
It is.
“Jorah?”
“I didn’t know you have a boyfriend.” His serious tone cuts through her, a shiver running up her spine, and a small voice in her head telling her that he’s not happy at the revelation. The silence returns but she hears some movement on the other end before Jorah’s voice comes up once more, the same gravitas still present. “Is he the guy on your account? The one with the curly hair? Or the one with tanned skin?”
“The first one.” She confirms and she hears him thrum.
“Why don’t you bring him along?” The weight in his voice lifts, Daenerys almost hearing him smile, confusing her about how his demeanor has changed in an instant. “I think the party would be a good place to spend time together. Show him your co-workers and all that. I’d love to meet the source of your inspiration as well.”
“I—I don’t know,” Daenerys mumbles with uncertainty, her eyes darting up almost immediately when Celine appears at her periphery, a stack of folders in hand, Daenerys gesturing at the space at the side of her table and wincing when she drops the stack, making a loud thud . “We’re not really keen to parties and I don’t even have anything to we—”
“It wouldn’t be a party without you.” He cuts her off, Daenerys going silent to allow him to continue. “And the purpose of the party is to celebrate the employees and to reward everyone for a job well done this quarter.”
A sigh escapes her for she feels that if she keeps making excuses, Jorah would have a retort for each one and who is she to say no to the President of the company? Her job description practically says that her answer should always be yes. To follow the rules and help lighten the workload and contribute to productivity. To keep everyone happy. Especially the bosses.
“Okay.” She agrees with reluctance, feigning a smile even if he can’t see her. “I’ll talk to him.”
“Great!” Jorah chirps with excitement. “I can’t wait to see you then.”
“Same here.” She responds and hangs up before he could add anything further.
The party wasn’t part of the plans she’s made for her and Jon, but after that phone call, she mentally moves around her schedule, writing down a list on a piece of paper and sticking it on the side of her monitor.
She doesn’t have the energy to start on Celine’s task after the unexpected conversation, her eyes glued to the red notification bubble on the chat app of their company communication system as she worries about how and where she would be getting a dress for the party.
But her computer pings and another notification pops out, from Celine again, she assumes, and Daenerys could only groan in resignation, pushing the thought of the event, the dress, and Jorah to the back of her mind as she takes hold of her mouse and clicks the notification to life.
  -
The party is in full swing when she arrives at the banquet hall of the hotel. Men decked out in coats and ties while the women looked like they’ve been dressed by the gods themselves, draped in fine silk dresses of gold, black and red, with jewelry hanging from their neck and wrists that shimmer against the light of the chandeliers.
It feels so alien to see her co-workers all dolled up, so used to seeing them in their usual office attire of untucked shirts, loose ties, mismatched blouses, and their slacks or pencil skirts. Although she also notices how carefree they all look. Celine who’s usually grouchy has a wide smile on her face while conversing with Darryl who always looks like he only gets 2 hours of sleep on a daily basis.
She also spots Cersei, who always walks the halls of the office like she’s just sucked on a lemon, all happy and laughing with her arm around a big man sporting a bushy beard, his belly bouncing while he laughs at whatever the man with tanned skin and a constant smirk on his face is saying.
She can’t complain that she agreed to go. As a matter of fact, she feels quite happy that she attended. Not only was the atmosphere full of unexpected merriment, but seeing Jon all giddy and amazed while wearing his tuxedo, aside from his usual security uniform, makes him look so much more dashing. How his curls were all styled and tied to a presentable man bun enhanced his boyish looks, making her realize that it’s what caught her attention in the first place, feeling her heart flutter like how it did when they had their first date.
“I keep forgetting that you work at such a fancy company,” Jon whispers to her, Daenerys chuckling at his comment as they walk toward the buffet table.
But she stops mid-step when she hears her name being called out from the crowd, her head turning to see Jorah approaching them, her eyes widening in surprise when she notices how handsome he looks in a navy three-piece suit, the color making his eyes look brighter, like how the ocean shimmers on a hot summer day, when he stands in front of her, a wide smile on his lips.
“Daenerys, you came.” He says as he keeps his eyes on her, feeling herself shiver at the sweet timbre of his voice. “I was beginning to worry you wouldn’t show up.” And she doesn’t miss how he studies her. “And I must say you look incredibly stunning tonight. Red is your color.”
Her hand reaches up to pat her cheek when she feels herself heat up from his comment. It’s the same words Missandei told her when she tried on the dress at the small boutique by her apartment, feeling slightly self-conscious at how the fabric clings to her body, accentuating the curves she never realized she had.
“You can pair it with that pearl necklace you have and that dragon charm bracelet you love so much,” Missandei says in excitement, standing behind her to fluff her hair, making her blonde locks flow down her back. “Jon will be drooling when he sees you.” Her friend squeals. “And he won’t keep his hands off you.”
He did notice the dress, that’s for sure. Jon looked at her in bewilderment as she stood at her front door when he came to pick her up. But as for the hands, they never stayed on her the way she was expecting. Instead, he remained holding her hand to help her down the steps of her building and on the steering wheel on their drive to the hotel much to her dismay.
She shakes her head slightly to clear her thoughts and focuses back on Jorah. “Jon was pretty excited to go that I couldn’t let him down.” She says and she blinks when she notices the slight tick in Jorah’s jaw. “Before I forget, this is—” She turns her head to look at her boyfriend, a frown forming on her lips when she finds him already at the buffet table, piling food on a plate. “I guess he’s busy.”
“I wouldn’t blame him,” Jorah grins. “The food is quite good.”
She hums as the disappointment slowly builds in her chest, her heart sinking when she sees how fast Jon has left her alone at the party just a couple of minutes since they arrived, making her feel small and unseen again just like at work. Being unnoticed by co-workers is fine for she has no ties with any of them, but feeling that from her own partner just dampens the excitement she felt earlier when she walked through the banquet doors.
“Hey,” Jorah’s voice pulls her from her sadness, his smile still present on his lips. “He’s enjoying himself and you should too. Come.” He tells her, holding out his elbow for her to take. “I was waiting for you because I wanted to introduce you to someone.”
“Who?” Daenerys looks at him with curiosity, her eyes turning back to Jon and her lips slanting further when she doesn’t see him in the crowd any longer.
A soft gasp then leaves her lips when she feels a hand take hers, looking up to see Jorah wrapping it around his waiting arm. “It’s a surprise.” he smiles.
Giving one last attempt to find her boyfriend and failing, she decides to put her attention on Jorah, building up a facade of happiness and follows him willingly as he walks through the sea of people.
Just like when they came back from their lunch the other day, she notices several heads turn in their direction. Faces painted with curiosity and shock as they eye her and the man she’s latched to. She’s never been a fan of gossip, and usually tries her best to stay away from it, most of all be the center of it, but she doesn’t doubt that when they go back to reality that she would be the talk of the office, employees asking the question why the assistant of the finance department is hanging on the arm of the CEO.
They weave through the crowd, Jorah nodding his head to acknowledge the people that raise their glasses to him in greeting. There’s even one that stops in front of them, Lynesse, she recalls her name, and tries to talk with Jorah who stops in his tracks and entertains her effort in initiating small talk. Daenerys looks at her and studies her for a bit, the dip on her black dress so low that her breasts are ready to spill from them, her neck covered in exaggeratingly large jewels that amaze Daenerys that she’s still able to hold her head up.
When Lynesse catches her staring, she drops her head fast, and almost immediately, she feels Jorah’s body go rigid, making Daenerys peek from her lashes only to see the woman’s hand casually pressing against her boss’ chest. It’s then she remembers the passing stories she hears from the people in her department, how there’s a woman in the company that tries to catch the attention of the male executives to climb the ranks as fast as she can.
She didn’t believe it at first. Believed it to be a rumor to hurt the person involved, but seeing her now almost draping her body against the man at her side, she thinks the gossip to be fact and it makes her stomach roll to imagine why people would stoop to such a level for personal gain.
“Why don’t you join us on the dancefloor, Sir?” Lynesse purrs, her hand lightly rubbing on Jorah’s chest.
She feels his chest rumble, his throat emitting a groan when his arm moves and takes hold of Lynesse’s hand on his body only to drop it with less care, his hand taking hold of hers next and securely tucking it on his elbow. “Thank you for the offer but as you can clearly see, I have company.” There’s an annoyance in Jorah’s voice, stunning both her and Lynesse, the latter’s mouth opening in obvious shock. She senses that Lynesse is about to respond but before she could do so, Jorah walks away, pulling her with him and leaving the woman amongst the crowd.
“Why didn’t you join them?” Daenerys couldn’t help ask, feeling shy all of a sudden. “They seem like good company.”
“Bimbos like her don’t deserve my time, and besides, I have all the good company I need right here on my arm.” There’s a grin forming on his lips and Daenerys blushes at his words.
“Ahhh Jorah Mormont.” She hears someone’s drawl, Daenerys looking up to see a familiar man with greying temples, donning a neatly trimmed goatee, his black suit and tie making his green eyes glow even more. And beside him, a redhead who’s just as tall as he is yet looking as young as her wearing a black dress that hugs her in the right places and looking even more elegant with a simple gold necklace where a mockingbird pendant hangs, matching the pin sitting on the lapel of the man’s coat. “Such a lovely party you have here.” The man says, lifting his tumbler of amber liquid to her boss.
“The committee has done a fine job, I must say.” Jorah grins and nods his head to greet the red-haired girl.
“They have indeed.” The man responds, his eyes turning to face Daenerys in turn, a subtle smirk on his lips. “And who is this lovely lady?”
“Ah yes, she is Daenerys Targaryen.” Jorah introduces her and the man’s eyes begin to shine at the sound of her name as if recognizing her. “Daenerys, this is Petyr Baelish. Owner of Blackbird Publishing. One of our company’s partners.”
Petyr Baelish.
Yes, she remembers him. Remembers seeing his name on the documents that Tyrion sends her to file. Remembers seeing him a couple of times in passing at the lobby of the company or walking out of Jorah’s office when she goes up to have some documents approved for their department.
Jorah then gestures to the girl at Petyr’s side. “And his fiancee, Sansa Stark.”
That’s when she notices the green emerald sitting on the girl’s left hand, glistening against the hotel lights. And it gets her thinking about how a young girl like her ended up with an older man such as Petyr.
“So this is the photographer.” Petyr says, pulling Daenerys’ attention to him and mumbling out a soft ‘hello’. “I’ve heard so much about you. Jorah wouldn’t stop showing me that photography blog of yours.” He chuckles, Jorah joining in with him.
“Guilty as charged.” Jorah shrugs as he concedes with a laugh. “I can’t help myself when I see something beautiful.” He says, sensing his eyes on her instead of the man in front of them.
“Yes, we both know you have a knack for pretty things, my friend.” The smirk returns on Petyr’s lips as he too looks at her, making Daenerys think that they’re referring to something else other than her pictures. “But, to get to the point, I am quite glad that Jorah showed me your shots and I must say, I was quite impressed.”
“Thank you, Mr. Baelish.” Daenerys smiles at his comment, feeling her spine shiver in joy as another one compliments her craft. “They’re just amateur shots though.”
“Amateur as they may seem, you do have potential and Blackbird Publishing is always on the lookout for talented people,” Petyr says in a businesslike fashion. “Hence why I am offering you a paid internship at my company.”
Daenerys freezes in her place, her jaw going slack in utter shock as the words slowly sink in. A paid internship? To do photography? She must be dreaming. Why would they offer her such a privilege? She wasn’t good. She’s just a neophyte. But the boss of the company is here in front of her, giving her the opportunity she never thought she’d have.
“I—Are you sure?” She stammers, her heart racing as the thought that this is some sick joke plays at the back of her mind. Jorah wouldn’t do that right? He wouldn’t humiliate her in front of so many people.
“Why yes, Ms. Targaryen, I’m quite sure.” Petyr chuckles and gestures his glass to Jorah. “This man here has vouched for you and said how good of an employee you are and it’s just what we need at the firm.” He explains. “I know an internship isn’t much but it’s only going to be for a month, and if we see that you’ve done an excellent job, we would be happy to welcome you completely to the company.”
“But the company—” Her mind starts to go overdrive. Yes, she’s elated at such an offer but he’s offering such a gift in front of her current boss. Does Jorah even know about this? Will he even approve of her transferring to another company? What about Tyrion? The team? The—
“Petyr and I have already talked about it and I’ve happily agreed that you transfer to his firm.” Jorah interrupts her thoughts, Daenerys looking up at him and seeing his sapphires bore into her amethysts. “Your talent is being wasted by getting coffee for your department and doing such mindless tasks that they are very much capable of doing. Your department doesn’t need you for productivity, if anything, they’ve become lazy. And in Petyr’s firm, you’ll be able to flourish, doing what you love doing.” There’s a soft smile on his face, his eyes glowing as he takes her hand in his, his thumb brushing against her knuckles as he asks, “Don’t you think that’s better?”
As much as she tries to argue that she’s needed in the company, she can’t help but agree that this is better. This is what she’s been waiting for for such a long time, that someone would notice her work and find it satisfactory enough to employ her and turn her hobby into a career. She’s had her fair share of applications, sending out her sample photos to companies that are hiring, and receiving either a letter of rejection or no response at all.
And now, she’s being poached by the owner of a publishing firm, practically offering her a gift on a silver platter and all she has to do is say yes and take it with both hands. But she can’t shake the feeling that this is wrong, that this is some sort of betrayal she’s doing to the company that’s kept her afloat for almost 2 years running.
She looks at Jorah with curious eyes, trying to see if there’s any hint of disappointment in him. There’s none. But she still asks. “Are you sure this is okay? I wouldn’t want to leave so suddenly.”
“I would be disappointed if you chose to rot in that cubicle of yours,” Jorah says with sincerity. “When you see an opportunity in front of you, you have to take it immediately before it goes away.”
Daenerys hums at those words and nods slowly in agreement, a small smile forming on her lips as she faces the other CEO.
“Thank you so much for this opportunity, Mr. Baelish.” She says steadily, trying not to burst into excitement. “I promise I won’t disappoint you.”
“I know you won’t, Dear and it’s not me you should be thanking but Jorah himself.” Petyr grins, nodding at the man on her side. “I wouldn’t have known you existed if it wasn’t for him.”
“That’s settled then.” Jorah chimes in, a wide grin on his face. “I’ll have Samwell send Olyvar Ms. Targaryen’s contact details.”
“Petyr,” It takes Daenerys by surprise when Sansa speaks, her eyes darting to the redhead when she whispers something to the older man.
“Ah, would you please excuse us,” Petyr says with a wide smile on his face, his arm snaking around Sansa’s waist. “I believe I owe my lady a dance.” There is amusement in his voice and Jorah reaches over to shake Petyr’s hand then to Sansa, who he places a kiss on her knuckles, Daenerys giving them a small wave of goodbye as they turn to leave, leaving her with Jorah, Petyr discarding his now empty tumbler on the tray of a passing server.
“So, what do you think?” Jorah asks as he turns to face her fully, the smile on his lips soft yet encouraging. “Are you excited?”
“Oh thank you so much for this, Jorah.” Daenerys squeals and forgets herself, her arms wrapping around Jorah’s torso, hugging him tight as she’s washed in excitement. “I can never thank you enough for this.” She adds and sighs in complete bliss as the thought of working as a photographer encases her mind.
There’s a slight pause that wraps around the both of them but vanishes just as quickly as it came when Jorah wraps his arms around her in return, his arm circling her waist while his other hand cradles the back of her head. “Anything for you, Darling.” He whispers against her temple and she can’t shake the feeling that his voice comes so close, his lips grazing her hair as she stays in his embrace.
Darling? The pet name snaps her from her reverie and she comes to realize how close they both are, thinking what people would say when they witness such intimacy between their boss and a secretary. Panic slowly rises in her, replacing the elation she was feeling moments ago, causing her to slowly pull herself free from his hold.
Jorah seems to sense her discomfort when he asks, looking down at her with eyes full of worry while keeping his hands on her hips. “Is something the matter?”
“No. No.” She blinks and shakes her head, taking a careful step back to have Jorah’s hands drop from her body. “It’s just, I got a bit too carried away. It’s improper since you’re my boss. People might talk and I don’t want to put you in a bad light.” She rambles, an awkward chuckle leaving her lips.
“So? None of them matter,” Jorah states, taking another step closer to her, almost closing the gap between them. “We are simply two friends celebrating a milestone. I see nothing wrong in that.” He hums, taking hold of her hand once again.
“I—I guess.” She mutters, the shyness taking over once more as she looks around the banquet hall. “It’s just that people talk and a lot of the people in the office like to gossip.”
“I won’t hesitate to fire anyone who spreads ill rumors in my company.” Jorah groans, his brows furrowing in irritation. “Let them speak and we shall see where their mouths lead them.”
“There is no need for that.” She says in a calming voice, placing her other hand atop Jorah’s and giving it a soft pat as she attempts to soothe his obvious vexation. “Regardless, thank you again. I—I don’t know how I can repay you.”
His eyes soften once more and the smile returns to his face, making Daenerys feel overwhelmed at how Jorah’s mood swings from left to right in a matter of seconds, nonetheless, she sighs inwardly in relief, seeing that Jorah is back once more to his calm demeanor.
“You can repay me with a dance.” He suggests and Daenerys’ eyes widen in surprise.
“A dance? I don’t know h—”
“That’s fine.” Jorah chuckles, his large hand enveloping her small one. “I’ll lead and you just follow.”
“Dany!”
Both their heads turn to the direction where she heard her name, her eyes blinking when she sees Jon jogging toward her, panting lightly when he stops in front of her and Jorah and his eyes then trailing down at their joined hands then to the man beside her.
“Uhmm…who are you?” Jon asks as he faces Jorah with subtle animosity then faces her when he asks once more. “Who’s this?”
Daenerys then snatches her hand out of Jorah’s hold, a shiver running up her spine when he hears him groan, moving to stand beside Jon and letting out a light squeak when he wraps an arm around her waist.
“Jon, this is my boss, Jorah Mormont.” She introduces him and then adds. “He’s the owner of the company.”
“Pleasure to meet you, Sir.” Jon holds out his hand to him and Daenerys can’t ignore the tension that suddenly surrounds the three of them. “Jon Snow. Daenerys’ boyfriend.” There’s a bite in his introduction.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Mr. Snow. Ms. Targaryen has told me so much about you.” What? Jorah takes Jon’s hand in his and gives it a firm shake. “How are you enjoying yourself so far? I assume the food was to your liking considering that you went to it quite quickly and left Daenerys here alone.”
The smirk that appears on Jorah’s lips makes her chill, sensing her boss trying to intimidate the man beside her and it seems to have worked when she sees Jon’s eyebrows knit together, the hand at his side balling into a fist as he keeps his eyes on Jorah.
“No matter. You’re here now and you can keep the beautiful lady company.” Jorah grins, dropping Jon’s hand and turning to face her, taking her hand in the process and lifting it to his lips. “If not, I wouldn’t hesitate to keep her company myself.” Jorah’s smirk returns, his eyes darting towards Jon before looking down at her own and pressing a soft kiss on her knuckles. “May you enjoy the rest of the night, Darling.” He bids her goodbye, only her, and releases her hand before turning away, Daenerys’ eyes never leaving the back of his head until he disappears between the crowd.
“What the fuck was that?” Jon says with annoyance and Daenerys turns to face him, a sigh of exasperation leaving her lips. “Darling? Your boss calls you Darling ?”
“He doesn’t.” Daenerys looks down and stands awkwardly as Jon looks around, seemingly looking for Jorah. “He’s just being nice.”
“Yeah, ‘cause friends kiss each other’s hands.” Jon scoffs and it makes Daenerys groan in frustration with how he’s acting. “I’m your boyfriend, Dany. If someone should be kissing your hands, it should only be me.”
“It was a courtly gesture.” Daenerys can’t help but roll her eyes at Jon’s misplaced anger. “He did the same to Sansa. And where the fuck were you anyway?” If someone should be furious, it should be her. Not the other way around. Daenerys has finally had enough of being unseen by Jon. To just be a droning presence around him where he can come and go as he pleases. “I turn my head for one second and you’re already stuffing your face with god knows what.” She snaps and sees Jon look at her with eyes full of shock at her unexpected outburst.
Jon sighs, rubbing his hand on his nape. “I got caught up in a conversation with someone and they started talking about DnD. I couldn’t leave them hanging—I didn’t want to be rude.”
“Typical,” Daenerys scoffs and turns away, crossing her arms over her chest.
“It’s a party, Dany, what were you expecting me to do?”
“To be with me, goddammit!” She snarls and stomps away when several heads turn in her direction, walking past bodies close together as she tries to escape the suffocating hall of people.
She can’t believe it! How dare Jon be so insensitive and stupid at a time like this. To ask such a  question when the answer is already so obvious. He knows she’s not into parties, that she’s turned down all the invites Irri and Doreah kept sending her way, choosing to stay at home and spend time with him rather than mingle with strangers that she knows her friends would bring. She even told him that she only wanted to go because it could be a nice experience for them to dress up for a change, realizing Jorah’s words that the party could be a good change of scenery instead of nestling in her apartment or going to that pub Jon loves so much. If another man can see it, why not Jon?
She groans in frustration and releases a sigh when the chatter of people dies down behind her, walking towards an open balcony and resting her elbows against the marble railing. She closes her eyes as she breathes in the cool autumn air, feeling the tension seep out of her system as she takes a lungful.
“Dany?” A sigh leaves her once again when she hears Jon’s voice behind her, choosing to keep her eyes ahead as she doesn’t want to see the source of her disappointment. “Dany,” He coos again and she feels him stand beside her. “I’m sorry—”
“Save it, Jon. I really don’t have the energy to have this conversation right now.” There’s a bite in her tone and she doesn’t care if Jon even notices it. But knowing him, he probably didn’t.
“I know.” There’s defeat in his voice but Daenerys wills herself not to fall for that. Not anymore, Dany. “I just—” He stops mid-sentence, Daenerys waiting for him to continue, but nothing else comes from his mouth.
“Just go home, Jon. I want to be left alone.”
“But how will you get home?” And it doesn’t even surprise her anymore that there is no hesitation in his question, no willingness to stay despite her sour mood.
“I’ll find a way. I always do.” She mumbles, a tear making its way down her cheek when she hears his retreating footsteps.
This is not how she expected the night to go, for all she wanted to was to spend time with Jon, introduce him to the other assistants that she finds bearable enough to talk to at work, maybe get in a dance or two with him then leave and spend the rest of the night fooling around on his bed. It’s what they needed for such a long time but even with careful planning, it still went into shambles.
The only good thing that came from attending this party was meeting Petyr Baelish and being offered a job by him directly. That Jorah cared enough and even took the time to endorse her to such a man in the industry, making her dreams slowly turn into a reality.
How she wishes Jon would be like Jorah. To show her the attentiveness the other man gives, the care and the concern. The negative thoughts that Jorah is only doing this because he feels sorry for her comes to the forefront of her mind but immediately, she shakes them away. She knows or rather feels that Jorah does care for her, like how a friend would care for another, looking after her and constantly wishing the best for her. She won’t allow herself to be considered as his charity work, but even if it is, she’ll take whatever appreciation she can get.
Because deep down, she really wants to be acknowledged as more than an assistant. She wants to be recognized for the hard work she puts into her job and other people’s work. She wants to be noticed by Jon, for him to understand her and to be there for her despite his busy schedule.
Deep down, all she really wants is to be seen.

Packing: Van-Supported + Hotel Tour
(part 3 of 5) I'm gradually going through past trip notebooks and jotting down all my packing lists down in one place. I'm writing out my packing list for an upcoming trip now so I figured I might as well copy and paste it onto the blog as well...
In 2022 I went on a multi-week vehicle-supported stay-in-hotels tour: a ~1200 mile ride through Vietnam and Cambodia with TdA Global Cycling. Typically for this type of trip there’s a support van that transports one large duffel bag to the next night’s hotel for you, freeing you to just carry daily essentials on the bike.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The extra capacity combined with our more remote travel including gravel/dirt roads led me to pack heavier. My packing list for this type, climate, and length of trip (retroactively revised based on what I wished I’d had, or brought but didn’t use):
Clothes:
In general, I packed enough clothes to do laundry every six days (this bike tour was organized so we’d ride at most five full days in a row between days off), plus overnight hotel-room-sink laundry for crucial fast-drying items, and wool Ts I can wear multiple days.
Bike clothes:
(3-4x) padded bike shorts [two pairs is enough if washing in the sink each night, but when it’s raining or there isn’t an easy place to hang it to dry it’s nice to be able to take a day off laundry]
(6x) socks
(2x) shorts with pockets (“mountain bike style”) to wear over padded shorts, also fine to walk around town in
(2x) light merino wool t-shirts to both bike and walk around in
(1x) synthetic souvenir jersey from some past trip (conversation starter!)
mesh t-shirt to bike in on the hottest days (there isn't much I find comfortable to bike in on 90-100F sunny + humid days, but the AeroTech Delta Cooling T-shirt was pretty good)
lightweight cycle cap
bandana (can soak in water to cool down on the hottest days)
sun sleeves
arm warmers, leg warmers, leg sun shields [never needed, omit in this climate]
fingerless gloves
[tbd future] full finger waterproof gloves– there was one cold and rainy day at elevation they would have been appreciated
general-purpose bike-and-walk shoes
backup pair of shoes (in case first get wet and don’t dry by the next day)-- this only came up twice after very rainy days, but I was glad to have them. I save an ancient worn-out pair of shoes just for this.
flip-flops / crocs
[tbd future] hiking shoes with better arch support, or insoles [would be bulky, but on one many-hour hike on a rest day I was wishing I had these]
[tbd future] bike helmet brim (e.g. Da Brim) [wished I had more of a helmet visor some days, and this was great on the past Utah MTB dirt tour – on the other hands, it also catches the wind if biking faster]
[tbd future] hi-vis biking vest, especially for days with some dark road tunnels
Other Clothes:
gym shorts to change into after ride
(2x) long pants (one lpermethrin treated since I was in a malaria zone)
(3x) light t-shirts
(2x) long sleeve button up shirt (one quick-dry hiking style, one ‘dressy’)
bathing suit
brimmed hat
light pack towel in case of roadside swimming holes [didn’t end up carrying daily or using, may omit]
Wet Weather Gear
hi-vis yellow rain coat
[tbd future] loose rain poncho for rain in hot + humid weather, instead
rain pants and shoe covers [ineffective and sweaty after hours of riding, getting wet in a warm climate is OK, omitting]
Documents + Paper:
photocopies of passport ID page, visas, vaccination cards, travel insurance in a ziploc bag (I carry copies on me, leave originals in hotel bag)
high-level maps for the regions I’m going through
pocket phrase guide or one-page printout of common phrases and menu items
local travel guide
books / kindle
notebooks and pens
Medical + Hygiene
toiletries kit
on-bike travel medkit (including moleskin pads, ibuprofen, immodium)
antimalarials
antibiotic prescription
a few rapid Covid tests
masks
dry soap sheets
toilet paper + wet wipes in a ziploc bag
(2x) sunscreen
(2x) chamois cream
DEET
Basic Bike Tools
As per my standard “on the bike” list:
travel pump
patch kit
spare tube
tire levers
multitool including chain break and master link
grease-cutting hand wipes
More Bicycle Spare Parts and Tools
Since we’d be out in rural areas without easy access to bike shops, I packed additional parts in my hotel bag, as on a supported tour there was an emergency vehicle in case of a major breakdown):
(2x) spare tires (I did end up using one of them, when one tire accumulated multiple larger punctures)
(5x) spare tubes (managed to use 3 plus some patches on a month-long tour with moderately rough roads)
bicycle lube (Boeshield T-9 or other), double-bagged in two ziplocs in case of leak (the bottle did leak once-- I'm glad I bagged it)
rag for chain
(2x) spare brake cables and housings
(2x) spare shift cables and housings
(2x pairs) brake pads
(1x) spare set of pedals (likely unnecessary, omit next time)
(4x) spare spokes (the right length for the front wheel and drive and non-drive sides of the rear wheel– I had to chat with the original bike manufacturer to double-check these)
8mm allen L-key (stiffer than multitool, for pedals / seat during bike unpacking)
spare chain and master link
extra moist towelettes
zip ties
duct tape
Food
This kind of supported tour generally offers a midday lunch / snack popup by the side of the road, and periodic towns where we could buy snacks, but I packed about one snack for every two days just to have some familiar options (peanut butter and dried pineapple) as well as some hydration salts.
Electronics:
(2x) outlet adapters
(2x) USB chargers
cables
small USB battery pack (enough to charge everything for one night-- occasionally a hotel didn't have enough working plugs)
bike computer / GPS
backup distance-only bike computer [didn't use, the phone is already my backup for my GPS, omit]
bright daylight-visible taillight (I like the Cygolite Hotshot Pro series)
bike headling
headlamp [somewhat redundant with headlight and phone, may omit]
waterproof camera [nice for taking photos on rainy days while keeping phone tucked away in a plastic bag, but may omit next time]
[tbd future] ipad or tiny laptop, if part of a longer trip where I may want to do some work or writing
Bags:
duffel bag (I've been happy with my 100L Patagonia Black Hole)
hip pack (for extra water (Evoc Hip Pack Pro = 1.5L), snacks, toiletries on bike [may omit now that I have a small frame bag]
day pack for hikes (don't need both this and hip pack)
single pannier for carrying clothing on rainy or cold days (usually not needed) or if going on a DIY side trip -- omit on next trip to simplify and allow me to remove bike rear rack as well
stem bag (for sunglasses, sunscreen, extra water)
top tube bag (snacks)
Other Misc
backup pair of glasses
glasses wipes
sunglasses
[tbd future] clothesline for hotel room / balcony: paracord + binder clips + two carabiners
[tbd future] ultralight sleeping bag liner (for a niche problem: there were a few days when it was too hot to sleep under a comforter, but the hotel didn’t provide a top sheet, and bugs or aggressive breeze from the hotel fan on my skin were distracting when trying to sleep, maybe this would help)
Weight:
Not counting the bike and helmet or the clothes I wore onto the plane, the original version of this packlist came to about 48lbs (22 kg) in the duffel bag. Once I was riding with some of it on the bike (hip pack, bike bags, tools, snack bars, and so on), the duffel that was transferred between hotels weighed about 40lbs (18kg).
The revised version of this packlist for a future trip (removing the strikeout items and adding most of the "tbd future" items) also came to about 48 lbs as checked on the plane total including the bike bags, or about 43 lbs / 19.5 kg once some items were carried on the bike. Not quite at my goal of 18kg but close... I could pack lighter and with fewer separate sub-bags, but I like being organized and bringing a few new pieces of clothing/gear to try each trip.

- I went back to class today, not entirely willingly because my body was not exactly ready to wake up two hours earlier than I’d gotten used to while on holiday. I had a green tea at home with breakfast. A box milk tea at school. A medium milk tea at the brunch place for lunch. I’m awake, but at what cost (ie: will I ever be able to sleep again). Finally, our strange classmate who could neither speak intelligibly nor understand anyone to save his life (but refused to leave the level) finally failed out, and the administration could forcibly relocate him on the basis of school policy. We have more teacher turnover, but it’s our (very decent) intern teacher from last semester who was doing 2 days per week, now she’ll do the main days and someone else does the 2. I can live with this.
- I have been walking around for some time on a flip-flop with a hole worn fully through the heel, which itself has cracked in half and continues to cling on only by a thin shred of foam (not to mention the strap has been reattached via several rubber-bands for a couple months now), and I swear today is the day I’m going to get new ones! (Sad that this pair only lasted from March 2021! I had high hopes! But I suppose they did the best they could considering how often I wore them hiking.) I also kind of want to take bets with myself as to when the heel will simply give up the ghost, first severed and then consequently digested by an MRT escalator.
- If I thought my crowning achievement was going to the (ill-mannered) doctor in Chinese, the next step is apparently to have a consultation (not with him, thank god) over the phone (I don’t even like talking on the phone in English). Although come to think, I do tutoring via audio call every week. Then again, tutoring doesn’t usually involve medical terms, nor is it regarding something that costs 幾萬臺幣, and if I really can’t understand something we just type it in the chat. I think I can do this though- or die of embarrassment trying.
- Taiwan’s borders are slowly creaking open, there’s visa-free entry for certain nationalities again, and on the 13th supposedly 4 day hotel quarantine + 3 day “self health management” (staying at home, with some restrictions that no one actually checks up on) will be replaced by 7 day self health management only. I told a friend I’m loathe to forfeit my hard-won ARC (who knows how many trees died to photocopy all those documents) but I’m also extreeeemely tempted to not study in the spring, just leave in January and come back on a 90-day visa free entry (Japan is opening up too), but he seemed to think returning to a life of sloth would not do me any favours, and to be honest he has very good judgement when it comes to my blind spots in self-perception. I shall persevere, I guess.

5 Tips for Getting Your Visas when you’re Traveling To Dubai
5 Tips for Getting Your Visas when you’re Traveling To Dubai
Visiting Dubai can be fun and exciting, but you need the right travel visa to avoid ending up in jail! The best part of getting your visa when traveling to Dubai is that it's easy to do as long as you follow these five simple tips.
1) Check If You Need a Visa
Edubaitourism says that, if you are traveling to Dubai, you will need a visa. Here is a list of things you should know before getting your visas. 1. All citizens from countries with diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates can visit for up to 90 days without a visa as long as they hold an onward ticket and are not planning on working in the country or staying in Dubai past their allotted time. 2. Citizens from other countries may have different regulations depending on their nationality and reasons for visiting. You must check what requirements apply to your country beforehand so there are no surprises when you get there!
2) Get Your Documents In Order
It's essential to get your documents in order before travelling internationally. To be granted entry into the UAE, you must present a valid passport with an expiration date of at least six months from the date of travel and a visa issued by the Embassy of UAE in your country. The Embassy will not issue visas if you have an expired or soon-to-expire passport. Once you enter the country, please ensure you stay within your visa. Overstaying may result in fines and deportation. Additionally, ensure that any vaccinations required by UAE law are up-to-date before traveling!
3) Choose The Right Visa
According to Edubaitourism, The first thing to know about visas in Dubai is that there are different types of visas depending on the length of your stay, what you'll be doing while you're here, and your nationality. If you intend to work in Dubai, have a residency visa, or want to study here, then you will need a different visa. The most common visa is the visit visa which only allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days. There are also transit visas if you are traveling on your way somewhere else.
4) Apply For Your Visa
You must apply for your visa in advance of your trip. To do so, you will need all of the following:
● A passport is valid for at least six months.
● One passport-size photo.
● Photocopies of your passport's data page and any previous visas or residence permits issued in the past ten years.
● Proof of sufficient funds in the form of a bank statement or letter from a sponsor showing they can support you financially while you are in Dubai.
● An address where you'll be staying in Dubai.
● Return ticket, flight details, or itinerary.
5) Pay The Fees
Dubai visa fees are relatively straightforward and can be paid through various channels. The different types of visas have different fees, but it is essential to remember that all payment methods will be in AED. The following information is broken down by the type of visa:
-Tourist Visa: 45 AED
-Visitor Visa: 50 AED
-Business Visa: 60AED
-Work Permit Visa: 600AED
Conclusion
In conclusion, you must get your visas in order before you set off on any international journey. Many things can happen when you need the correct paperwork; some of them will make your trip much less enjoyable. But with these five tips, you'll be able to navigate the process without a hitch, so get out there and explore!

The Beings
Tumblr media
In the lower drawer of an old rusted steel desk, located in the corner office of some single-building satellite belonging to a relatively small state college, comfortably rests a document forgotten by anyone of importance. Though it has been years since the drawer was last opened, the pages of this document are still firm and appear as fresh as the day they were photocopied. The wrinkles and smudges of the source material streak across in grainy black and white, but the drawings and text are clear nonetheless.
The professor who once sat at this desk was a doctor of astrophysics. He wasn’t well loved by his students, or particularly memorable at all. He didn’t have fun or flashy experiments that energized the class. He wasn’t even regarded as particularly boring, because he wasn’t regarded much at all. He arrived on time each day, gave lectures and showed diagrams, and allowed the TAs to handle the rest.
His students would certainly never have expected the kind of work that he was involved in. This was partially by design and partially by happy coincidence, or maybe just a correlation between well-learned professors of astrophysics and mild-mannered unsuspecting people. In any case this particular mild-mannered unsuspecting person belonged to a project much greater than his accomplishments as a tenured professor, or they would have been if they had been shared with the world.
The professor worked in a private lab which had discovered a new and never before detected force. The fifth fundamental force of the universe.
This force was even weaker than gravity, and propagates in complex waves across some poorly understood plane of the universe. This force went undetected for so long because of its unfathomable slowness. Even for the entire duration of human history, the wave of its influence had not moved a single picometer. They dubbed it “the Slow Force”.
Unfortunately the method of their discovery was lost to time, as the researchers made another, much greater discovery, shortly before destroying any record of their existence. The last evidence for this work sat in only two places, and one of them was a photocopy of a handwritten journal, left in an old steel desk in an abandoned school building.
The text of that document is as follows:
“The Beings are arguably much simpler than us, in their particular magnitude and complexity of intelligence. Though their youngest is several hundred thousand years old, even their oldest and wisest would be incapable of grasping something like a cell phone, or a dotted quarter note, or a tax deduction. Their intelligence might be compared to that of a wild hound. Or a bird, and not those kinds that can learn to use tools or count to seven. The mind of a Being has no need for things like counting, and in fact it appears to have internal systems which perform as an instinct the activities for which we might use counting.
The “eyes” of a Being you might think of as wrapping around it in entirety, like a porous skin, which takes in disturbances on its primary field of existence (fortunately for our understanding this includes light, waves of gravitation, and many known types of radiation) and transduces them into sensation, just as our own senses would. Certain regions of them become more or less sensitive to input, which you might say differentiates an "eye" the same way that our human eyes are more sensitive than our skin. However these regions seem to change dynamically, as dictated by some intricate reactive mechanisms within the Being.
The exact operation of their internal mechanisms is largely a mystery to us, mostly due to their incredible complexity (analogous to our own), although we can be sure that the physical and chemical ongoings of stars, nebulas, and galaxies play a major role. It is especially difficult to determine, to any precise description, how their decision-making occurs, and how their perception translates into whatever stimulates that decision making. We struggle to find consensus on whether they are aware at all, at least, in the way that creatures on Earth experience awareness.
We do know, or at least are reasonably certain, that the Beings are “evolved”, insofar as they have developed by some form of selective pressure. They reproduce in both asexual and multisexual manner, sometimes splitting into many or combing into a new Being as is necessary. And as they mutate they select themselves for greater continuity of existence and stronger reproduction, just as every living thing (plus some non-living ones) on Earth does.
In terms of scale, rather than use conventional descriptions of size, it easiest to grasp that a single Being encompasses somewhere between ten and a thousand galaxies within its boundaries.
To a Being, a star is no more than a cell would be to us, a planet no more than a single enzyme or protein. Though to be clear, the makeup of a Being is not solely celestial bodies. Clouds of dark matter, coordinated waves of energy, and expressions of planes of our universe which we do not yet comprehend. All of these are utilized in the cosmic biology of Beings.
Constructs at our scale are so inconsequentially small that only the macroscopic, planetary actions of our species would be of any significance to them. Though we humans may see a supernova, for example, as a massive, beautiful, and ever-unique phenomenon, to a Being comparing two of them would be like trying to substantively differentiate two hairs from the same human arm. What exact function these primary building blocks are performing at such distance is as mysterious to us as our own building blocks, as the elaborate coordination of molecules within our cells.
And yet we have extensive knowledge of their behaviors, because there are many hundreds of thousands of them to observe. All around us. They have inhabited our universe since long before humanity. The lifespan (if such a term applies) of a Being exists the course of millions of years, and so to us they appear frozen. Or more accurately, stretched across time and space as their furthest appendages are many lightyears away and eons back in time. They surround and encompass us, appearing as a colossal still-life scene. In mid-conversation, or preparing to combat with another, and even in precious moments before death. Like the excavation of Pompeii, each one we observe and discover is in perfect suspension representing a snapshot of it’s life. And each additional Being expands our image of the incredible tapestry of their story.
Civilizations like our own are surely an illness to the Being that contains them, given the strange and unexpected effects intelligent life has on its host planet. It is fortunate that Beings have no medicine or surgery to remove us (although such a process would presumably take millions of years anyway), because as is to be statistically expected, our planet Earth resides within the body of a Being.
It’s internal signals flow around and through our planet, which gives us a privileged view of its function from within. We have observed 3 large appendages, though we suspect these are non-constant, shifting like an amoeba. We also know that we are curiously close (only a few thousand light-years) to what we can only describe as its brain, being the central hub of perceived signals. Presumably we affect these signals in ways that it is not evolved for. Our most obvious macro-scale behavior is certainly the loud and patterned electromagnetic signals we produce, but how this phenomenon manifests to a Being is a matter of pure speculation. Whether or not humanity exists as an irritant or allergy, or like a cancerous cell, remains to be seen."
Following this paragraph is another which has been fully censored with marker on the source document. On the photocopy it appears as several thick lines of ink, which would give a noticeable difference to the texture and weight of the paper, if one were to pick it up and run their finger along it.
The professor who sat at this desk was not here when the school closed down. None of his students ever bothered to look him up and see if he started teaching somewhere else. He was eventually forgotten, as was the desk and the papers within it.

one character type i love are the functional messes.
people whose life is in absolute dissarray and yet somehow they make it work. people who have to juggle five hundred different spinning plates on fire and yet it all comes unscathed in the end
their apartment only has lawn chairs as furniture over which they are balancing stacks upon stacks of bills, old borrowed books from the library, documents that were quickly photocopied while noone was looking and about ten different ashtrays, most of them with still smoking stubs and joints.
their meals consist exclusively of energy bars, cigarrettes, gas station sandwiches, monster cans and the canapes that they took from the last party they managed  to sneak into
they have two sets of clothes, they wash it in the shower and iron it against a parking sign they stole once
they are intimatly familiar with the emergency room at the nearest five hospitals and there are at least five places in the city they know they cannot set foot into without getting killed
they are suprisingly good and even slightly respected at their profession which is probably journalist, restaurant cook or hairdresser
they have a twenty year old cellphone that can only send calls, not recieve them.
they get eight hours of sleep every day, spread into multiple powernaps that they will take in the bus, during their break, in the bathroom or while driving.

So I didn’t want to pause and write up this compilation while I had the game open, but now that I’m back and have a moment, I was looking at some of the environmental design Jesse and I have come across so far. This one’s a bit longer than the others, so here’s a read more:
Tumblr media
I had to kind of get my camera right behind Jesse and walk her forward at just the right angle, but I finally got a good look at one of the papers hung on the whiteboard in one of the shadowy offices. [...?] INCIDENT REPORT FORM, it appears to say, and below that: PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY.
Tumblr media
This poster I came across in one of the hallways, and, though it’s comparatively simple, it immediately reminded me of the works of M.C. Escher, a graphic artist who created works that aimed for a disorienting optical effect. I spent a bit of time angling my camera to try and get a good view of the bottom text, which is, bizarrely, written in yellow on a white background.
“Can’t find your office? Watch your step”, the poster reads, but the last three words are arranged on the poster’s black-and-white illusory background, featuring blocks that appear to rise and fall despite being as 2D as they come. “Rangers from security department” is the yellow lettering at the bottom, next to the Bureau’s seal. I have absolutely no idea what that means.
Tumblr media
This one I really couldn’t make out very well at all: it appears to be the silhouette of a person, and they look to be holding some sort of device, maybe a weapon, something long and thin. “Let’s work hard!” it says, adding: “His life is in your hands. Everyone’s safety depends on you!”
Quite a lot of responsibility for Jesse here, considering that she just came in out of the rain. It was this poster, more than the others, that gave me a feeling of true unease. So the safety of their employees can’t actually be guaranteed by the Bureau itself, huh? Something to keep in mind.
Tumblr media
This, finally, is the notice board I came across earlier, before Jesse and I met Ahti. It’s a big, cork board with a variety of overlapping posters and papers, but I got Jesse up close to it to see how much I could make out. Makes me wish I had a pip-boy, but, well, you -- and Jesse -- can’t have everything.
OFFICE RULES OF CONDUCT reads the leftmost one, and this one’s mostly legible. Unfortunately I can’t quite make out the handwritten addition to item #4 (”or the 3d-printer”? “or the ... stationary”?), but the type is as follows:
Speak in moderate volume
No personal calls
No food or drink around Bureau documents or in the copy room
No using the photocopier for personal projects
Wear access badge at all times
No discussing confidential projects out loud
The one to finish the coffee pot makes a new one
The poster immediately to the right of this list is also fairly legible: it has a picture of two illustrated hands, some bubbles, and, in large, block letters, REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS: YOUR HANDS CAN SPREAD THE MOLD. The last part of it is underscored, and below it reads:
Be sure to:
Wash hands carefully with soap
Make sure to wash all fingers, nails, palms, backs, wrists
Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully
To the far right is an orange poster with an illustrated clock with four hands, smiling out at Jesse from its illustrated face. Above it reads, in bold type: DELAYS CAUSED BY HOUSE SHIFTS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS OVERTIME. Two sticky notes have been stuck to the poster. The first appears to read “Spinning out of control??” with the last word underscored. The second just reads YES in large, capitalized letters.
The rest appear to be far more mundane. Two papers hung side-by-side both read: “Let’s say hi & welcome to some new people in the oldest house!” Nine people are pictured, though I can’t read their names.
A paper below that has a drawing of a dog with a great big red, crossed-out circle superimposed over it: PLEASE, it appears to read, below overlapping corners of other posters, “don’t bring dogs into the office. Some of us have allergies.” A PLEASE RECYCLE poster has been almost totally obscured by the rest.
BOOK CLUB is yet another poster, featuring a stack of illustrated books. SOCKS AND BALLERINAS: LIVE AT THE OLDEST HOUSE is one next to it. A third, hung at the corner of the second, is relatively plain: it simple reads “Reminder to all staff: Food left in the refrigerator in Containment break room 3-B has been known to vanish. Plan accordingly.” It sounds rather like a threat.
I am, however, immediately distracted by the final paper I can make out. ACOUSTIC GUITAR FOR SALE! it reads, in blocky, handwritten letters. “Turns out it’s pretty hard. If interested, see Greg in Maintenance.” It’s possible that the name is actually “Grey”, but Jesse and I don’t have time to ponder, because that guitar is $50.
$50! For a guitar!
Forget everything else, Jesse, we gotta book it to Maintenance to pick up that guitar.

UAE Attestation in Bangalore: Your Ultimate Guide to Hassle-Free Document Authentication!
Getting your documents attested for use in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can seem like a daunting task, especially if you're unfamiliar with the process. But fear not, Bangalore residents! This comprehensive guide will equip you with all the knowledge you need to navigate UAE attestation in Bangalore smoothly and efficiently.
What is UAE Attestation?
UAE attestation is the official confirmation that your educational certificates, personal documents, or commercial papers are genuine and originate from India. This process involves getting stamps or seals from various authorities in India and finally, the UAE Embassy/Consulate in Bangalore.
Why is UAE Attestation Required?
The UAE government mandates document attestation for several purposes, including:
Applying for UAE visas (work, residence, student)
Seeking employment in the UAE
Enrolling your children in UAE schools/universities
Opening a bank account in the UAE
Registering a business in the UAE
Types of Documents for UAE Attestation
The type of attestation process varies depending on the document category:
Educational Certificates: These require attestation from the issuing university/institution, the Human Resource Department (HRD) (for some states), and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Personal Documents: Marriage certificates, birth certificates, and other personal documents typically need attestation from the issuing authority (e.g., municipal corporation), the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), and the MEA.
Commercial Documents: Commercial invoices, certificates of origin, and other business documents usually require attestation by a chamber of commerce, the Legalization Department of the state government, and the MEA.
The UAE Attestation Process in Bangalore
The following steps outline the general procedure for UAE attestation in Bangalore:
1. Document Verification:
Ensure your documents are originals or certified true copies.
Have any photocopies attested by a notary public.
2. Initial Attestation:
This depends on the document type:
Educational Certificates:
Get them attested by the issuing university/institution (if applicable).
For some states, submit them to the HRD for further attestation.
Personal Documents:
Take them to the issuing authority (e.g., municipal corporation) for their stamp.
Approach the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for their attestation.
Commercial Documents:
Get them attested by the relevant chamber of commerce.
Submit them to the Legalization Department of the state government.
3. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Attestation:
After initial attestation, submit your documents to the MEA office in Bangalore or any other MEA office in India.
You'll need to fill out an application form and pay the requisite fees.
4. UAE Embassy/Consulate Attestation:
Once the MEA has attested your documents, present them at the UAE Embassy/Consulate in Bangalore.
Again, complete the application form and pay the necessary fees.
Important Considerations:
Processing times can vary depending on the document type and workload at each authority. Be prepared to wait a few weeks or even months.
Costs can accumulate throughout the process. Factor in fees for attestation by each authority.
Consider using a professional attestation service for faster and more streamlined processing, especially if dealing with complex documents.
Additional Tips:
Always check with the UAE Embassy/Consulate in Bangalore for the latest attestation requirements and fee structure. Their website or a phone call can provide valuable updates.
Maintain a clear photocopy of each document for your records.

Benefits of Using a Professional Attestation Service:

Who Qualifies for ICICI Home Loan: Eligibility Criteria Explained
Making your dream home a reality is an exciting step. ICICI Bank's Home Loan can be a helpful tool to achieve that dream. But before diving in, it's crucial to understand if you qualify. This blog post will explain the eligibility criteria for an ICICI Home Loan, the documents you'll need, and provide a glimpse into the 2023 interest rates (to give you a starting point).
ICICI Home Loan Eligibility Criteria:
ICICI Bank considers several factors to determine your eligibility for a home loan. Here's a breakdown of the key points:
Age:
Salaried Individuals: 20 to 65 years.
Self-Employed Individuals: 21 to 70 years.
Income: There's no official minimum salary mentioned, but a stable monthly income of around Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 is generally advisable.
Employment Status:
Salaried Individuals: Minimum of 1-2 years of work experience with a reputed company.
Self-Employed Individuals: A stable business track record of at least 3 years is preferred.
Credit Score: A good credit score (above 700) reflects your ability to manage finances responsibly. It significantly impacts your eligibility and interest rate.
Debt-to-Income Ratio (DTI): This ratio compares your monthly debt obligations (EMIs for existing loans) to your gross income. A lower DTI indicates better affordability and increases your chances of loan approval.
Property Type: ICICI Home Loans are available for various property types, including new flats, resale flats, plots, and independent houses.
ICICI Home Loan Documents Required:
Once you understand your eligibility, you can gather the necessary documents for your application. Here's a general list (it might vary slightly depending on your situation):
Completed Loan Application Form: This will be available on the ICICI Bank website or branch.
Identity Proof: Copy of Voter ID card, Passport, Driving License, or PAN card.
Residence Proof: Copy of recent utility bills (electricity, telephone) or bank statements.
Income Proof:
Salaried Individuals: Form 16/IT returns for the last 2 years.
Self-Employed Individuals: IT returns for the last 3 years and business proof documents.
Property Documents: Agreement of Sale, allotment letter (if applicable), and approved property documents.
Bank Statements: Last 6 months' bank account statements or passbook photocopy.
Other Documents: Salary slips (for salaried individuals), property tax receipts, and proof of business address (for self-employed).
ICICI Home Loan Interest Rate 2023:
While the blog post focuses on 2024 eligibility, referring to 2023 interest rates can give you a general idea. ICICI Home Loan interest rates typically range between 6.5% and 9.5% per annum [based on web searches, actual rates may vary]. However, the final rate you receive depends on various factors, including your credit score, loan amount, chosen scheme, and existing relationships with the bank.
Tips to Improve Your Chances of Qualifying for an ICICI Home Loan:
Maintain a good credit score: Aim for a score above 700 by paying bills on time and managing credit utilisation effectively.
Show a stable income: If you're self-employed, ensure your business financials are well documented.
Reduce your debt burden: Clear existing debts or minimise your DTI ratio to improve affordability.
Consider a co-applicant: Including a co-applicant with a strong financial profile can strengthen your application.
Next Steps:
ICICI Bank offers various home loan options to suit different needs. Explore their website or visit a branch to discuss your specific requirements and get personalised guidance. With careful planning and meeting the eligibility criteria, you can turn your dream of owning a home into a reality with the help of an ICICI Home Loan.

Mastering Medical Device Audits: A Roadmap to Preparedness and Compliance Excellence
Tumblr media
Facing a medical device audit can be daunting, but with meticulous preparation and strategic responses, companies can turn this challenge into an opportunity for building a robust quality system.
Tips for Mastering Medical Device Audits
This article provides a detailed roadmap for mastering medical device audits, covering essential steps from internal audits to adeptly handling regulatory findings.
1. Demystifying Audits
Understanding the fundamental concepts behind medical device audits is crucial. ISO 19011 defines audits as systematic, documented, and independent processes for obtaining objective evidence.
This section also outlines the different types of audits, including internal and external audits conducted by regulatory bodies.
2. Navigating US and EU Audits
Medical device audits are mandatory for all device classes, but specific requirements vary depending on regulatory bodies and device classification.
In the EU and US, audits for medium to high-risk devices typically involve Notified Body audits for MDR/IVDR compliance and ISO 13485:2016 certification, FDA inspections for 21 CFR 820 compliance and manufacturing capability verification, and periodic surveillance audits.
Additionally, manufacturers are subject to unannounced and “for cause” inspections triggered by various issues.
3. Strategic Audit Preparation
Thorough preparation for an audit or inspection involves continuous auditing practices, mock audits, and self-identification of issues. Internal audits should be conducted rigorously, acting as rehearsals for external audits.
Mock audits, conducted by independent third parties, can reveal areas for improvement. Self-identifying issues and implementing corrective actions promptly demonstrates a proactive approach to compliance.
4. Selecting the Ideal Audit Host
When selecting an audit host, it’s crucial to choose someone who represents the company well, possesses in-depth knowledge of its operations and quality management system, and can handle pressure effectively.
The audit host is pivotal in ensuring a smooth and successful audit, so selecting the right individual is essential.
5. Document Readiness for Audits
To ensure a smooth audit process and avoid delays, organizations should pre-identify and readily have all necessary documents, including regulatory information, certificates, and records.
A centralized regulatory information management (RIM) system can significantly streamline the process by storing and linking to relevant documents from other systems.
6. Audit In-Action
During an audit, it is crucial to actively manage the process. The company host should introduce the organization and conduct a facility tour. While the auditor directs the audit, the host should assist and guide them throughout the process.
For unannounced inspections, a procedure should outline the reception and handling of such audits, including designating primary contacts and alternates.
Ideally, multiple company representatives should accompany the auditor, and they should not be left alone at any point. A “front room” team should transcribe every interaction and relay information to a “back room” team for support.
7. Best Information Sharing Practices
Employees should provide requested information to auditors but should consult with executives before sharing sensitive documents. Auditors should access information through photocopies or limited computer access.
Original documents can be presented but should not be kept by auditors. All information should be prepared, verified, recorded, and marked “Confidential” or “Proprietary” before being provided to auditors. An extra copy should be made for audit files.
8. Addressing Gaps in Information
Address missing or incorrect information by acknowledging the issue and discussing appropriate actions under the existing quality system. Be prepared to receive findings from any inspection and ensure that they are understood by both parties.
Address all findings diligently and respond to the regulatory body in charge of the audit with a satisfactory plan for correcting and preventing the recurrence of the identified issues.
Conclusion
In conclusion, medical device audits, though challenging, can be navigated successfully with thorough preparation and strategic responses.
Embrace the audit journey as an opportunity for continuous improvement, showcasing a commitment to compliance and the delivery of safe and effective medical devices.
Mastering medical device audits is not just a regulatory requirement – it’s a pathway to excellence in quality systems and product lifecycle management.

How to save on photocopier costs
In the bustling business landscape of Melbourne, managing costs effectively is essential for ensuring profitability and sustainability. Photocopiers play a crucial role in day-to-day operations, but their upkeep and usage can quickly escalate expenses if not managed strategically. Here are some practical tips to help businesses in Melbourne save on photocopier costs without compromising productivity or quality.
Tumblr media
Assess Usage Patterns: Understanding your organization's photocopying needs is the first step towards cost savings. Analyze usage patterns to determine peak times, volume requirements, and types of documents being copied. By identifying areas of overuse or inefficiency, you can implement targeted strategies to optimize usage and reduce unnecessary expenses.
Invest in Energy-Efficient Equipment: When choosing photocopiers or printers, prioritize energy-efficient models. Sharp photocopiers in Melbourne offer advanced energy-saving features such as automatic sleep mode and fast warm-up times, helping to minimize electricity consumption and lower utility bills. Additionally, consider multifunction devices that consolidate printing, scanning, and faxing capabilities to streamline operations and reduce overall energy usage.
Implement Print Management Solutions: Print management software provides valuable insights into printing behaviors and allows businesses to set usage quotas, enforce duplex printing, and track costs per user or department. By promoting responsible printing practices and reducing paper and toner wastage, print management solutions can significantly lower photocopying expenses while improving environmental sustainability.
Optimize Maintenance and Service Agreements: When leasing or purchasing photocopiers, carefully review maintenance and service agreements to ensure they align with your organization's needs and budget. Negotiate favorable terms such as discounted rates for volume printing or comprehensive maintenance packages that cover repairs and consumables. Regular servicing and proactive maintenance can extend the lifespan of photocopiers and minimize downtime, ultimately reducing long-term costs.
Explore Outsourcing Options: In some cases, outsourcing photocopying and printing services to professional providers may offer cost-saving benefits. Printing companies in Melbourne often provide competitive pricing for bulk printing jobs, eliminating the need for investing in expensive equipment and maintenance. Outsourcing can also free up valuable office space and resources, allowing businesses to focus on core activities while reducing overhead expenses associated with in-house photocopying.
Tumblr media
By implementing these strategies, businesses in Melbourne can effectively manage photocopier expenses and achieve significant cost savings without compromising operational efficiency or quality. With careful planning, investment in energy-efficient equipment, adoption of print management solutions, optimization of service agreements, and consideration of outsourcing options, organizations can streamline photocopying processes and maximize their return on investment in photocopier technology.
