On October 3, the Taiwan Navy had 2 destroyers sustain damage in separate incidents. In the port of Kaohsiung, the 171 meter long Kee Lung-class destroyer Tso Ying was struck by the 152 meter long, 19999 dwt tanker Everrich 3. The Everrich 3 was making a turn to head out of port when it sideswiped the stern of the Tso Ying which was at its berth. The tanker sustained significant bow damage while the destroyer suffered a large dent and hull breach at the stern. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Everrich 3 was ordered back port for inspection.

Off Suao harbor, the 171 meter long destroyer Keelung collided with the fishing vessel Chin Fu En.  Both vessels were heading into port when the Keelung attempted to pass the slower fishing vessel. During the attempt to overtake the Chin Fu En, the destroyer struck the stern of the fishing vessel. The Chin Fu En sustained damage to port aft section while the Keelung was undamaged. There were no injuries on either vessel.

To the dharmakāya Amitābha we pray!
ལོངས་སྐུ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔
longku tukjé chenpo la solwa deb
To the saṃbhogakāya—the Great Compassionate One—we pray!

To the nirmāṇakāya Padmākara we pray!

Wondrous emanation, master of mine,

gyagar yul du kutrung tö sam dzé
In India, you were born, you studied and you contemplated;
བོད་ཡུལ་དབུས་སུ་ཞལ་བྱོན་དྲེགས་པ་བཏུལ༔
böyul ü su shyal jön drekpa tul
To the heart of Tibet you came, to subjugate its arrogant demons,
ཨོ་རྒྱན་ཡུལ་དུ་སྐུ་བཞུགས་འགྲོ་དོན་མཛད༔
orgyen yul du kushyuk dro dön dzé
In Orgyen you dwell, accomplishing the benefit of beings:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob
With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!
བརྩེ་བས་བདག་སོགས་ལམ་སྣ་དྲོངས༔

yepé raldri chakgya dzé
Your right hand forms the mudrā of the sword,
གཡོན་པས་འགུགས་པའི་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་མཛད༔
yönpé gukpé chakgya dzé
Your left in the mudrā of summoning.
ཞལ་བགྲད་མཆེ་གཙིགས་གྱེན་ལ་གཟིགས༔
shyal dré chetsik gyen la zik
Your mouth held open, with teeth bared, you gaze up into the sky.
རྒྱལ་བའི་གདུང་འཛིན་འགྲོ་བའི་མགོན༔
gyalwé dungdzin drowé gön
O Gyalwé Dungdzin, Protector of Beings:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob
With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

Your body shines with a dazzling radiance of light,

In your right hand, volumes of the tripiṭaka,
གཡོན་པས་ཕུར་པའི་པུསྟི་བསྣམས༔
yönpé purpé puti nam
In your left, the texts of Kīlaya.
ཟབ་མོའི་ཆོས་རྣམས་ཐུགས་སུ་ཆུད༔
zabmö chö nam tuk su chü
All these profound teachings have infused your mind,
ཡང་ལེ་ཤོད་ཀྱི་པཎྜི་ཏ༔

drimé né chok nyam ré ga
In that supreme place of power, immaculate and enchanting,
རྒྱ་གར་བལ་ཡུལ་ས་མཚམས་སུ༔
gyagar béyul satsam su
On the very border of India and Nepal,
བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབས་ནས་བྱོན་པའི་ཚེ༔
jingyi lab né jönpé tsé
You grant your blessing, and as soon as you arrive
དྲི་བསུང་སྤོས་ངད་ལྡན་པའི་རི༔
drisung pö ngé denpé ri
The mountain becomes fragrant, a sweet scent wafting through the air,
མེ་ཏོག་པདྨ་དགུན་ཡང་སྐྱེ༔
metok pema gün yang kyé
Even in winter lotus flowers bloom,
ཆུ་མིག་བྱང་ཆུབ་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཆུ༔
chumik changchub dütsi chu
And there flows a spring called 'Nectar of Enlightenment'.
བདེ་ལྡན་དེ་ཡི་གནས་མཆོག་ཏུ༔
deden dé yi né chok tu
In this supreme and sacred place, inundated with bliss,
སྐྱེས་མཆོག་ཚུལ་བཟང་ཆོས་གོས་གསོལ༔
kyechok tsul zang chögö sol
O Kyéchok Tsul Zang, clad in Dharma robes,
ཕྱག་གཡས་རྡོ་རྗེ་རྩེ་དགུ་བསྣམས༔
chak yé dorjé tsé gu nam
Your right hand wielding a nine-spoked vajra,
གཡོན་པས་རིན་ཆེན་ཟ་མ་ཏོག༔
yönpé rinchen zama tok
Your left holding a jewelled casket
རཀྟ་བདུད་རྩིས་ནང་དུ་གཏམས༔
rakta dütsi nang du tam
Brimful of the elixir of rakta.
མཁའ་འགྲོ་དམ་ཅན་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
khandro damchen dam la tak
You bind under oath the ḍākinīs and guardians who keep their pledges,
ཡི་དམ་ཞལ་གཟིགས་དངོས་གྲུབ་བརྙེས༔
yidam shyalzik ngödrub nyé
And you attain the siddhi of beholding the yidam deity face to face:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob
With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

When you establish the teaching of the buddhas,
གཡའ་རིའི་ནགས་ལ་སྒྲུབ་པ་མཛད༔
yari nak la drubpa dzé
And practise in the Slate Mountain forest,
བསྙེན་ཕུར་ནམ་མཁའི་དབྱིངས་སུ་འཕར༔
nyenpur namkhé ying su par
Your ‘kīla of approach’ soars into the wide open sky.
རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཕྱག་རྒྱས་བླངས་ཤིང་བསྒྲིལ༔
dorjé chakgyé lang shing dril
You catch it with the vajra mudrā, roll it
བསྒྲི��་ཞིང་ཙནྡན་ནགས་སུ་འཕང་༔
dril shying tsenden nak su pang
Between your hands and hurl it into the Sandalwood Forest,
མེ་འབར་འཁྲུགས་ཤིང་མཚོ་ཡང་སྐེམ༔
mebar truk shing tso yang kem
Which bursts into flames, evaporating its lake.
སྲིབ་ཀྱི་མུ་སྟེགས་ས་གང་བསྲེགས༔
sib kyi mutek sa gang sek
In an instant, you burn the land of the tīrthikas to ashes,
ཡཀྴ་ནག་པོ་རྡུལ་དུ་བརླག༔
yaksha nakpo dul du lak
And crush their dark yakṣa lords into dust.
འགྲན་གྱི་དོ་མེད་བདུད་ཀྱི་གཤེད༔
dren gyi domé dü kyi shé
O peerless Dükyi Shéchen:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

ཁྱེའུ་ཆུང་སྤྲུལ་སྐུའི་ཆ་ལུགས་ཅན༔
khyé'u chung tulkü chaluk chen
You appear as a youth in nirmāṇakāya garb,
ཡ་མཚན་གཟུགས་བཟང་ཁ་དོག་ལེགས༔
yatsen zuk zang khadok lek
Your amazing, beautiful form, with its lovely hue,
ཚེམས་འགྲིགས་དབུ་སྐྲ་སེར་ལ་མཛེས༔
tsem drik utra ser la dzé
Perfect teeth and golden hair, gorgeous
དགུང་ལོ་བཅུ་དྲུག་ལོན་པའི་ཚུལ༔
gunglo chudruk lönpé tsul
Like a youth of sixteen years,
རིན་ཆེན་རྒྱན་ཆ་སྣ་ཚོགས་གསོལ༔
rinchen gyencha natsok sol
Wearing all the jewel ornaments.
ཕྱག་གཡས་འཁར་བའི་ཕུར་པ་བསྣམས༔
chak yé kharwé purpa nam
Your right hand grips a kīla of bronze,
བདུད་དང་སྲིན་པོའི་ཁ་གནོན་མཛད༔
dü dang sinpö khanön dzé
Subjugating māras and rākṣasas.
གཡོན་པས་སེང་ལྡེང་ཕུར་པ་བསྣམས༔
yönpé sengdeng purpa nam
Your left hand holds a kīla of teak,
མོས་པའི་བུ་ལ་སྲུང་སྐྱོབ་མཛད༔
möpé bu la sung kyob dzé
Granting protection to your devoted sons and daughters,
མགུལ་ན་ལྕགས་ཀྱི་ཕུར་པ་བསྣམས༔
gul na chak kyi purpa nam
Around your neck you wear a kīla of iron—
ཡི་དམ་ལྷ་དང་གཉིས་སུ་མེད༔
yidam lha dang nyisumé
You and the yidam deity are inseparable,
གཉིས་མེད་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་འཛམ་གླིང་རྒྱན༔
nyimé tulku dzamling gyen
O Dzam Ling Gyen Chok, manifestation of non-duality:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

When you choose to go to the 'Land of Phantoms',
མེ་དཔུང་ཤོད་ཀྱི་ས་གཞི་ལ༔
mepung shö kyi sashyi la
The ground on which the blazing pyre is lit
��དའ་རྒྱང་གང་གི་མཚོ་ནང་དུ༔
da gyang gang gi tso nang du
Turns into a lake, the width of an arrow shot,
པདྨའི་སྟེང་དུ་བསིལ་བསིལ་འདྲ༔
pemé tengdu sil sil dra
Where, on a lotus blossom, you appear, cool and sparkling.
པདྨའི་ནང་ན་དགོངས་པ་མཛད༔
pemé nang na gongpa dzé
Within the lotus, you display your realization
མཚན་ཡང་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཞེས༔
tsen yang pema jungné shyé
And win the name of Pemajungné, ‘Lotus-born'.
རྫོགས་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་དངོས་སུ་བྱོན༔
dzokpé sangye ngö su jön
You come in person as a completely realized buddha—
དེ་འདྲའི་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་ཡ་མཚན་ཅན༔
dendré tulku yatsen chen
O wondrous nirmāṇakāya, such as you:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob
With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

When you shine as the sun over Tibet,
དད་ལྡན་འགྲོ་བ་འདྲེན་པའི་དཔལ༔
deden drowa drenpé pal
An awe-inspiring guide for any with devotion in their hearts,
གང་ལ་གང་འདུལ་སྐུར་བསྟན་ནས༔
gang la gang dul kur ten né
You display whatever forms each being needs to be tamed.
གཙང་ཁ་ལ་ཡི་ལ་ཐོག་ཏུ༔
tsang khala yi la tok tu
High up on the Khala mountain pass in Tsang,
དགྲ་ལྷའི་དགེ་བསྙེན་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
dralhé genyen dam la tak
You place the genyen of the dralas under oath.
ཡུལ་ནི་ཚ་བའི་ཚ་ཤོད་དུ༔
yul ni tsawé tsashö du
Down in the valley of Tsawarong,
ལྷ་ཡི་དགེ་བསྙེན་དྲེགས་པ་ཅན༔
lha yi genyen drekpachen
It was the arrogant genyen of the gods,
ཉི་ཤུ་རྩ་གཅིག་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
nyishu tsachik dam la tak
Twenty-one of them, you make swear fealty.
མང་ཡུལ་དེ་ཡི་བྱམས་སྤྲིན་དུ༔
mangyul dé yi jamtrin du
In Mangyul, at the temple 'Cloud of Love',
དགེ་སློང་བཞི་ལ་དངོས་གྲུབ་གནང་༔
gelong shyi la ngödrub nang
You grant attainments to the four bhikṣus.
ཁྱད་པར་འཕགས་པའི་རིག་འཛིན་མཆོག༔
khyepar pakpé rigdzin chok
O supreme Khyépar Pakpé Rigdzin:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

On Palmotang’s plain of glory
བརྟན་མ་བཅུ་གཉིས་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
tenma chunyi dam la tak
You give the twelve tenma goddesses their binding oath.
བོད་ཡུལ་ཁ་ལའི་ལ་ཐོག་ཏུ༔
böyul khalé la tok tu
Up on the Khala pass of Central Tibet,
གངས་དཀར་ཤ་མེད་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
gangkar shamé dam la tak
You bind the white snow goddess Gangkar Shamé under oath.
འདམ་ཤོད་ལྷ་བུའི་སྙིང་དྲུང་དུ༔
damshö lhabü nying drung du
In the marshlands of Damshö before Mount Lhabüi Nying,
ཐང་ལྷ་ཡར་ཞུད་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
tanglha yarshyü dam la tak
You swear Thangla Yarshu to a solemn vow.
ཧས་པོ་རི་ཡི་ཡང་གོང་དུ༔
hepori yi yang gong du
High up, on the peak of Mount Hépori,
ལྷ་སྲིན་ཐམས་ཅད་དམ་ལ་བཏགས༔
lhasin tamché dam la tak
You place all the devas and rākṣasas under oath:
ཆེ་བའི་ལྷ་འདྲེ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱིས༔
chewé lha dré tamché kyi
And out of all these great gods and demons,
ལ་ལས་སྲོག་གི་སྙིང་པོ་ཕུལ༔
lalé sok gi nyingpo pul
Some offer up the very essence of their life force,
ལ་ལས་བསྟན་པ་བསྲུང་བར་བྱས༔
lalé tenpa sungwar jé
Some are turned into guardians of the teachings,
ལ་ལས་བྲན་དུ་ཁས་བླངས་བྱས༔
lalé dren du khelang jé
Others take the pledge to act as your servants.
མཐུ་དང་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་སྟོབས་པོ་ཆེ༔
tu dang dzutrul tobpo ché
O mighty Dzutrul Thuchen:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob
With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

When you plant the teachings of the sublime Dharma,
རྒྱལ་མཚན་ལྟ་བུར་བཙུགས་པའི་ཚེ༔
gyaltsen tabur tsukpé tsé
As if hoisting a victory banner,
བསམ་ཡས་མ་བཞེངས་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ༔
samyé mashyeng lhün gyi drub
Samyé is completed spontaneously, with no need to be built,
རྒྱལ་པོའི་དགོངས་པ་མཐར་ཕྱིན་མཛད༔
gyalpö gongpa tarchin dzé
And the entire vision of the king is fulfilled.
སྐྱེས་མཆོག་གསུམ་གྱི་མཚན་ཡང་གསོལ༔
kyechok sum gyi tsen yang sol
Then, you bore the names of three supreme beings—
གཅིག་ནི་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཞེས༔
chik ni pema jungné shyé
One was Padmākara, ‘Lotus-born’,
གཅིག་ནི་པདྨ་སམྦྷ་ཝ༔
chik ni pema sambhava
One was Padmasambhava,
གཅིག་ནི་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཞེས༔
chik ni tsokyé dorjé shyé
And one was Tsokyé Dorjé, ‘the Lake-born Vajra’.
གསང་མཚན་རྡོ་རྗེ་དྲག་པོ་རྩལ༔
sang tsen dorjé drakpo tsal
O Dorjé Drakpo Tsal, now we invoke you by your secret name:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔
tukjé dak la jingyi lob

When you practise at Samyé Chimphu,
རྐྱེན་ངན་ཟློག་ཅིང་དངོས་གྲུབ་གནང་༔
kyen ngen dok ching ngödrub nang
You ward off harmful circumstances, and grant attainments.
རྗེ་བློན་ཐར་པའི་ལམ་ལ་བཀོད༔
jelön tarpé lam la kö
You set the king and ministers on the path to liberation,
གདོན་གཟུགས་བོན་གྱི་བསྟན་པ་བསྣུབས༔
dön zuk bön gyi tenpa nub
Destroying those teachings of the Bönpos that conjure evil spirits,
ཆོས་སྐུ་དྲི་མེད་རིན་ཆེན་བསྟན༔
chöku drimé rinchen ten
And showing the dharmakāya, precious and immaculate.
སྐལ་ལྡན་སངས་རྒྱས་ས་ལ་བཀོད༔
kalden sangye sa la kö
O Kalden Drendzé, you lead us fortunate ones to buddhahood:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

With your compassion, inspire us with your blessing!

Then you leave, and for the land of Orgyen,
ད་ལྟ་སྲིན་པོའི་ཁ་གནོན་མཛད༔
danta sinpö khanön dzé
Where now you subjugate the rākṣasa demons;
མི་ལས་ལྷག་གྱུར་ཡ་མཚན་ཆེ༔
mi lé lhak gyur yatsen ché
Great wonder—surpassing any human being,
སྤྱོད་པ་རྨད་བྱུང་ངོ་མཚར་ཆེ༔
chöpa mejung ngotsar ché
Great marvel—in your phenomenal enlightened actions,
མཐུ་དང་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་སྟོབས་པོ་ཆེ༔
tu dang dzutrul tobpo ché
Great might—with all your miraculous powers:
 ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

dribpa kün pang kham sum saler khyen
You have freed yourself of obscurations, and so know the three realms with vivid clarity;
དངོས་གྲུབ་མཆོག་བརྙེས་བདེ་ཆེན་མཆོག་གི་སྐུ༔
ngödrub chok nyé dechen chok gi ku
You have attained the supreme siddhi, and so possess the supreme body of great bliss;
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྒྲུབ་པའི་བར་ཆད་ངེས་པར་སེལ༔
changchub drubpé barché ngepar sel
All the obstacles to our enlightenment—eliminate them for good!

 ཞེས་པའང་རྩོད་བྲལ་དུས་བབས་ཀྱི་སྤྲུལ་པའི་གཏེར་སྟོན་ཆེན་པོ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་མཆོག་གྱུར་བདེ་ཆེན་གླིང་པས་ཟླ་ཉིན་ཁ་ལ་རོང་སྒོའི་དཔལ་ཆེན་པོའི་ཞབས་འོག་ནས་སྤྱན་དྲངས་པའི་བླ་མའི་ཐུགས་སྒྲུབ་བར་ཆད་ཀུན་སེལ་གྱི་ཞལ་གདམས་སྙིང་བྱང་ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་བུ་ལས། ཕྱི་གསོལ་འདེབས་ཀྱི་སྒྲུབ་པ་ཁོལ་དུ་ཕྱུངས་པ་སྟེ།
Without any question, the great treasure revealer Orgyen Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa manifested specifically for this time. From below the foot of the Great Awesome One at the door of Danyin Khala Rong, he revealed the ‘Quintessential Manual of Oral Instructions: the Wish-fulfilling Jewel’ from ‘The Guru’s Heart Practice: Dispelling All Obstacles’—Lamé Tukdrup Barché Kunsel. This prayer forms the outer practice of this revelation.
འདིས་ཀྱང་བསྟན་འགྲོའི་བར་ཆད་དང་རྒུད་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཉེ་བར་ཞི་ཞིང་དགེ་ལེགས་ཀྱི་དོན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཡོངས་སུ་གྲུབ་པའི་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་ཅིག། །།
May this prayer become the cause for pacifying completely all the obstacles and degeneration for both the teachings and beings, and accomplishing all the aims of virtue and goodness! Maṅgalaṃ!

I, the Self-arisen Lotus King, have condensed the essential points of the tantras, transmissions, and instructions of the development, completion and great perfection cycles to the size of a sesame seed and concealed them within this stone casket shaped like an auspicious conch shell. I place it within your hand, Tsogyal. In the future, during the final period, give it to my unmistaken heart-child when he’s engaged in courageous activity at Tidro, gathering place of ḍākinīs and residence of the realized ones of Chimpu. Samaya.
དེ་ལ་འདིར་ཏི་སྒྲོའི་ཆོས་སྐོར་གྱི་སྒོ་འབྱེད་རིག་བྱེད་དབང་མོའི་སྒྲུབ་ཐབས་ལ།
Here, in this sādhana of Kurukullā which opens the Dharma cycle of Tidro, there are the following stages:
Refuge and Bodhicitta
དང་པོ། སྐྱབས་འགྲོ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་ནི།
First, take refuge and generate the heart of enlightenment:
ན་མོ།
namo
Namo
འདི་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོར་མཆིས་ཀྱི་བར། །
di né changchub nyingpor chi kyi bar
Until achieving enlightenment
འབུམ་ཕྲག་མཁའ་འགྲོའི་ཚོགས་ལ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། །
bumtrak khandrö tsok la kyab su chi
I turn for refuge to the myriad ḍākinī hosts,
སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བྱིང་བའི་འགྲོ་ཚོགས་ཀུན། །
dukngal gyatsor jingwé dro tsok kün
And generate bodhicitta so as to place all those
གཏན་བདེའི་ས་ལ་འགོད་པར་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་དོ། །
ten dé sa la göpar semkyé do
Bound to the ocean of suffering, within stable bliss.
Protective Sphere
བགེགས་བསལ་སྲུང་འཁོར་བསྒོམ་པ་ནི།
Removal of obstacles and meditation upon the protection sphere:
ཧྲཱིཿ གང་སྣང་བདེ་སྟོང་ཡེ་ཤེས་རོལ་པ་ལ། །
hrih gang nang detong yeshe rolpa la
Hrīḥ. Whatever appears is the play of bliss-void,
མ་དག་བགེགས་ཞེས་བྱ་བའི་མིང་ཡང་མེད། །
ma dak gek shyejawé ming yangmé
Within which even the designation ‘impure obstacles’ is unknown.
སྣང་སྲིད་འོད་དམར་ཀློང་དུ་བཞུས་པ་ཡིས། །
nangsi ö mar long du shyüpa yi
Abiding within the luminous red expanse of appearance
བདེ་ཆེན་འཕོ་མེད་ཀློང་དུ་མཚམས་གཅད་དོ། །
dechen pomé long du tsam ché do
The boundary of the immutable expanse of bliss is set.
Descent of Blessings
བྱིན་དབབ་ནི།
Causing blessings to descend:
ཧྲཱིཿ གནས་ཡུལ་དུར་ཁྲོད་དག་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་ནས། །
hrih neyul durtrö dakpé shyingkham né
Hrīḥ. From the pure fields of the places, lands and charnel grounds
རྡུལ་སྙེད་མཁའ་འགྲོའི་འདུ་བ་དབྱིངས་ནས་བཞེངས། །
dul nyé khandrö duwa ying né shyeng
Ḍākinīs, arisen from basic space gather here like dust motes;
སྐལ་ལྡན་ལུས་ངག་ཡིད་ཀྱི་སྣང་ཆ་ཀུན། །
kalden lü ngak yi kyi nangcha kün
And shower the supreme blessings, the inseparability of bliss and void,
བདེ་སྟོང་དབྱེར་མེད་མཆོག་གི་བྱིན་ཕོབ་ཅིག །
detong yermé chok gi jin pob chik
Upon the body, speech and mind of the fortunate.
ཨོྃ་ཀུ་རུ་ཀུལླེ་ས་པ་རཱི་ཝ་ར་ཨ་ཝེ་ཤ་ཡ་ཛ་ཛཿ ཕེཾ་ཕེཾ་ཏིཥྛ་ལྷན།
om kurukullé sapariwara awéshaya dza dza pem pem tishta lhen
Oṃ kurukulle saparivāra aveśaya ja jaḥ pheṃ pheṃ tiṣtha lhan
Blessing the Offering Substances
མཆོད་རྫས་བྱིན་བརླབ་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ དབང་ཤེས་ཡུལ་གྱིས་བསྡུས་པའི་ཆོས་སོ་ཅིག །
hrih wangshé yul gyi düpé chö so chik
Hrīḥ. The arrangement of sensory stimulants,
འཁོར་འདས་མཉམ་ཉིད་ཀུན་བཟང་མཆོད་པའི་སྤྲིན། །
khordé nyamnyi kunzang chöpé trin
Fine clouds of offerings equaling the entirety of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,
མུ་མེད་སྲིད་ཞིའི་ཁྱོན་ཀུན་ཡོངས་ཁྱབ་པ། །
mumé sishyi khyön kün yong khyabpa
Pervade the immeasurable whole of existence and peace
མཆོད་ཡུལ་ལྷ་རྣམས་མཉས་པའི་དཔྱིད་དུ་གྱུར། །
chöyul lha nam nyepé chi du gyur
And become objects which delight the gods
བཛྲ་སྥ་ར་ཎ་ཁཾ།
benza saparana kham
Vajra sapharaṇa kham
Main Practice
དངོས་གཞི་ལྷ་བསྐྱེད་ནི།
The actual practice of generating the deity:
ཨ། ཆོས་ཀུན་འོད་གསལ་ཀ་དག་ངང་ཉིད་ལས། །
a chö kün ösal kadak ngang nyi lé
Ah. From within the primordially pure luminosity of all phenomena,
རང་སྣང་རྣམ་དག་བདེ་ཆེན་ཌཱ་ཀྐིའི་དལ། །
rangnang namdak dechen dakki dal
The utterly pure self-appearance, reality of the great bliss ḍākinī,
རང་རིག་ཧྲཱིཿཡིག་དམར་གསལ་ལམ་མེ་བ། །
rangrig hrih yik mar sal lammewa
This awareness appears vividly as a red syllable Hrīḥ;
འོད་འཕྲོས་དོན་གཉིས་བྱས་ནས་ཚུར་འདུས་པ། །
ö trö dön nyi jé né tsur düpa
Radiating light, it accomplishes the dual benefit;
རྒྱལ་ཀུན་སོ་སོར་རྟོགས་པའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྐུ། །
gyal kün sosor tokpé yeshe ku
Retracting it transforms me into the mighty Kurukullā—
བཅོམ་ལྡན་རིག་བྱེད་དབང་མོ་ལོངས་སྐུའི་ཆས། །
chomden rikjé wangmo longkü ché
Embodiment of all the victors’ discriminative wisdom—clothed in the saṃbhogakāya attire.
ཞལ་གཅིག་ཕྱག་གཉིས་ཨུཏྤལ་མདའ་གཞུ་འགེངས། །
shyal chik chak nyi utpal dashyu geng
I have one face; my hands hold a drawn utpala arrow set in an utpala bow;
ཞབས་གཉིས་བརྐྱང་བསྐུམ་པད་ཉིའི་གདན་ལ་རོལ། །
shyab nyi kyangkum pé nyi den la rol
And with my legs drawn out and stretched in, I frolic upon cushions of sun and lotus.
འཁོར་དུ་ཞིང་སྔགས་ལྷན་སྐྱེས་ཌཱ་ཀྐིའི་ཚོགས། །
khor du shying ngak lhenkyé dakki tsok
Myriad ḍākinīs, born from the fields, mantras and spontaneously born, surround me;
ཉི་ཟེར་རྡུལ་ལྟར་རང་སྣང་རྒྱན་དུ་ཤར། །
nyizer dul tar rangnang gyen du shar
They adorn me, like dust motes in sunlight.
Invocation of the Wisdom Deities
སྤྱན་འདྲེན་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ བདེ་ཆེན་དབང་གི་ཕོ་བྲང་འོད་འབར་ནས། །
hrih dechen wang gi podrang ö bar né
Hrīḥ. From Blazing Light—the palace of great bliss—
རྡུལ་སྙེད་མཁའ་འགྲོ་གཙོ་དང་འཁོར་ཚོགས་བཅས། །
dul nyé khandro tso dang khor tsok ché
Ḍākinī and your entourage, as numerous as dust motes,
དབང་གི་ལས་རྣམས་བདེ་བླག་བསྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར་དུ། །
wang gi lé nam delak drub chirdu
Come forth, unimpeded through the force of your compassion,
མ་ཐོགས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་གནས་འདིར་གཤེགས། །
ma tok tukjé tob kyi né dir shek
For the easily accomplish the magnetizing activities!
བཛྲ་ས་མ་ཡཱ་ཛཿ
benza samaya dza
Vajra samaya ja
Request to be Seated
བཞུགས་སུ་གསོལ་བ་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ དབྱིངས་ལས་རང་ཤར་ཡེ་ཤེས་ལྷ་ཡི་ཚོགས། །
hrih ying lé rangshar yeshe lha yi tsok
Hrīḥ. Assembly of Wisdom deities, self-arisen from basic space;
ཏིང་འཛིན་རྩེ་གཅིག་སྒྲུབ་པའི་དམ་ཚིག་པར། །
tingdzin tsechik drubpé damtsikpar
Come to the pledge-beings, established out of single concentration,
ཇི་ལྟར་ཆུ་ལ་ཆུ་བཞག་ཇི་བཞིན་དུ། །
jitar chu la chu shyak jishyin du
And, like water poured into water, become of one taste with them,
དབྱེར་མེད་རོ་གཅིག་བརྟན་པར་བཞུགས་སུ་གསོལ། །
yermé ro chik tenpar shyuk su sol
Indivisible and steadfast.
ཏིཥྛ་ལྷན།

Tiṣṭha lhan
Presenting the Offerings
མཆོད་པ་འབུལ་བ་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ མཁའ་དབྱིངས་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་ཀུན་བཟང་མཆོད་པའི་སྤྲིན། །
hrih khaying künkhyab kunzang chöpé trin
Hrīḥ. Within suchness dissolving into suchness
ཆོས་ཉིད་ལ་ནི་ཆོས་ཉིད་ཐིམ་པ་དང་། །
chönyi la ni chönyi timpa dang
And the divine dissolving into the divine,
ལྷ་ལ་ལྷ་ཐིམ་ངང་དུ་འབུལ་ལགས་ན། །
lha la lha tim ngang du bul lak na
Fine clouds of offerings—pervading the entirety of space—are presented to you:
འཁོར་འདས་དབང་དུ་འདུ་བའི་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩོལ། །
khordé wang du duwé ngödrub tsol
Please bestow the ability to magnetize the whole of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa.
མ་ཧཱ་པཱུ་ཙ་ཁཱ་ཧི།
maha pu tsa khahi
Mahā pāja khāhi
Short Praise
བསྟོད་པ་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ སོར་རྟོགས་ཡེ་ཤེས་མཛེས་སྡུག་ལང་ཚོར་འཕོས། །
hrih sor tok yeshe dzé duk langtsor pö
Hrīḥ. Powerful mother, Kurukullā, discriminative wisdom arisen as a beauty;
འཇམ་མཉེན་པདྨའི་མདའ་ཡིས་སྲིད་གསུམ་འབིགས། །
jam nyen pemé da yi si sum bik
As smooth and supple as a lotus petal, nevertheless, you pierce the three worlds;
ཆགས་པའི་ཟོལ་གྱིས་ཆགས་ཅན་བདེ་བར་ཁྲིད། །
chakpé zol gyi chakchen dewar tri
Cunning, you use desire to blissfully lead the desirous to birth
འཕགས་བཞིའི་བསྐྱེད་ཡུམ་རིག་བྱེད་དབང་མོར་བསྟོད། །
pak shyi kyé yum rikjé wangmor tö
As one of the four kinds of noble ones,1 I praise you.
Recitation
བཟླས་པ་བྱ་བ་ནི།
ཐུགས་ཀར་ཉི་སྟེང་ཧྲཱིཿལ་སྔགས་ཀྱིས་བསྐོར། །
tukkar nyi teng hrih la ngak kyi kor
At my heart is a sun-disc, atop of which is the syllable Hrīḥ surrounded by a mantra garland.
འོད་འཕྲོས་འཕགས་མཆོད་འགྲོ་ཀུན་སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་སྦྱངས། །
ö trö pak chö dro kün drib nyi jang
Light radiates from them making offerings to the noble ones and cleansing others of their two obscurations,
ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་སྟོང་འོད་དམར་ཀློང་དུ་ཞུ། །
tamché detong ö mar long du shyu
Culminating with them all melting within great bliss’s luminous red expanse and then dissolving into me;
རང་ལ་ཐིམ་པས་མཆོག་ཐུན་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཐོབ། །
rang la timpé choktün ngödrub tob
There through achieving the common and uncommon attainments.
ཨོཾ་ཀུ་རུ་ཀུ་ལླེ་ཧྲཱིཿསྭཱ་ཧཱ།
om kuru kullé hrih soha
Oṃ kurukulle hrīḥ svāhā
བརྒྱ་སྟོང་ཁྲི་འབུམ་བཟླས་པ་ཡིས། །དབང་གི་ལས་རྣམས་ཀུན་འགྲུབ་ཅིང་། །སྐུ་བཞི་ཐོབ་བོ་ས་མ་ཡ། །
Through reciting this 100, 1000, 10,000, or 100,000 times, one will accomplish all magnetizing activities, as well as achieving the four kāyas. Samaya!
Blessing the Tsok
ཚོགས་བྱིན་བརླབ་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ ཨེ་ཡིག་སྟོང་ཆེན་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ཀ་པ་ལཱར། །
hrih é yik tongchen ying kyi kapalar
Hrīḥ. The letter É—the skull-cup of the basic space of great emptiness—within which
ཝཾ་ཡིག་འཁོར་འདས་ཆོས་ཀུན་ཚོགས་སུ་བཤམས། །
wam yik khordé chö kün tsok su sham
The letter Vaṃ—all phenomena of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa—are arranged as an offering,
བདེ་ཆེན་འཕོ་འགྱུར་མེད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབས། །
dechen pogyur mepar jin gyi lab
And blessed as the immutable great bliss,
མཆོད་ཡུལ་ལྷ་རྣམས་དགྱེས་པའི་སྤྲིན་དུ་གྱུར། །
chöyul lha nam gyepé trin du gyur
Becoming the offering clouds which delight the deities.
ནམ་མཁའ་མཛོད་སྔགས།
Offer the tsok with the sky-treasury mudrā and mantra:
Tsok Offering
ཚོགས་མཆོད་ནི།
ཧྲཱིཿ ཕྱི་ལྟར་བཟའ་བཅའ་བཏུང་བ་དམ་ཚིག་རྫས། །
hrih chitar zacha tungwa damtsik dzé
Hrīḥ. Outwardly: food and drink as the substance of samaya;
ནང་ལྟར་ཁ་སྦྱོར་བདེ་སྟོང་གླུ་གར་དང་། །
nangtar khajor detong lugar dang
Inwardly: song and dance, the union of bliss and void;
གསང་བ་རིག་སྟོང་རྫོགས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡི། །
sangwa riktong dzogpachenpo yi
And in secret: the empty awareness of the great perfection;
ཚོགས་མཆོད་འབུལ་ལོ་ཐུགས་དམ་སྐོང་གྱུར་ཅིག །
tsokchö bul lo tukdam kong gyur chik
I offer them all! Please repair any breaches of samaya!
ག་ཎ་ཙཀྲ་པཱུ་ཙ་ཁཱ་ཧི།
gana tsatra pu tsa khahi
Ganacakra pūja khāhi
Dedication of Merit
དགེ་བསྔོ་ནི།
དགེ་བ་འདིས་མཚོན་དུས་གསུམ་ལེགས་བྱས་མཐུས། །
gewa di tsön dü sum lek jé tü
Through the force my fine actions committed throughout the three times,
བདེན་གཉིས་དབྱེར་མེད་ལྷན་སྐྱེས་ཌཱཀྐི་ནཱིའི། །
den nyi yermé lhenkyé daki ni
As exemplified by this merit here;
གོ་འཕང་ཚེ་འདི་ཉིད་ལ་མངོན་གྱུར་ནས། །
gopang tsé di nyi la ngöngyur né
May I achieve the state of the spontaneously born ḍākinī—the union of the two truths—
ཕྲིན་ལས་རྣམ་བཞིས་འགྲོ་ཀུན་འདྲེན་པར་ཤོག །
trinlé nam shyi dro kün drenpar shok
And lead all beings by means of the four activities.
Verse of Auspiciousness
བཀྲ་ཤིས་བརྗོད་པ་ནི།
ཧོ། རྣམ་ཐར་གསུམ་ལྡན་རྡོ་རྗེ་བཙུན་མོའི་མཁར། །
ho namtar sumden dorjé tsünmö khar
Ho. The Vajra Queen’s citadel, adorned with the three gates of liberation,2
གཉིས་སྣང་རྟོག་པའི་རྒྱུ་བ་མཐའ་དག་ཤི །
nyi nang tokpé gyuwa tadak shi
Has put an end to the movement of dualistic thought;
གསང་གསུམ་རྟག་ཁྱབ་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་རོལ་པ་ཡི། །
sang sum tak khyab lhündrub rolpa yi
With the play of the three secrets’ permanence, pervasiveness and spontaneity,
དགེ་ལེགས་སྣང་བས་ས་གསུམ་ཁྱབ་པར་ཤོག །
gelek nangwé sa sum khyabpar shok
May virtue and goodness pervade the three realms!
ཅེས་སོགས་མཐའ་རྒྱས་སུ་བྱའོ། །
You may also elaborate by inserting other prayers and verses of auspiciousness.
རྡོ་སྒྲོམ་དུང་གི་དབྱིབས་ཅན་གྱི་ནང་བཅུད་དངོས་སུ་འདོན་པའི་དུས་ལ་བབ་པ་མིན་ཡང་། གཏེར་ཕུད་འདི་ཙམ་སྤེལ་ནའང་བསྟན་འཛིན་དུ་མའི་ཐུགས་བཞེད་བདེ་བླག་ཏུ་འགྲུབ་ཅིང་རྒྱལ་ཁམས་ཡོངས་ལ་བདེ་སྐྱིད་ཀྱི་སྣང་བ་རྒྱ་ཆེར་རྒྱས་པ་སོགས་དགོས་པ་དུ་མ་མཐོང་ནས་ཨ་བྷྱ་ལཀྴཾ་ཀ་རས་གཏེར་མིན་བརྩམས་མིན་དུ་བྲིས་པ་དགེ
The essence of the stone casket shaped like an auspicious conch shell was not received at the correct time. Nevertheless, due to the aspiration of many teachers and given that this practice is simple and easy to practice, I have decided to disseminate the first portion of the terma. With the aspiration that I might see, from amongst my many wishes, peace, comfort and happiness spread and increase throughout the country; I, Abhaya Lakṣmamākara, wrote this (which is neither a treasure nor entirely my own composition) without any obstacles.

Camera Shy (Part 2)
Summary:  AU. Jughead is an aspiring photographer. His final project requires him to shoot nude photos of someone who inspires him. With no one else to ask Jughead asks Betty. Insecure of her body Betty is quick to shoot the idea down, until Jughead reminds her that she owes him. - Bughead leading to eventual smut.

I'm so fixated on the girl with the soft sound And hair all over the place - The 1975, Settle Down
Betty steps out of the shower and grabs her robe hanging from the back of the bathroom door. She wraps it around herself and peeks out into the hall, making sure Jughead’s not home yet. Realizing she’s alone, she walks down to the end of the hall, passing Jughead’s room on the way to her own. Stopping, she slips into his room to look for his photography portfolio. His walls are littered with hundreds of little Polaroid snapshots. If you can name it, he most likely has a photo of it somewhere on his walls. According to Jughead everything was an inspiration, from empty pizza boxes to the white noise on broken TV screens. Beneath each photo was a caption, scratched out in his messy scrawl. His room is dark and brooding, definitely clashing with the rest of the apartment.
She misses the days when she and Ronnie used to be roommates. There were never dirty socks left lingering around the apartment or fast food wrappers tucked inside the couch cushions when she’d lived with Ronnie. Thankfully, her best friend was right across the hall, so she was never far away when there was a crisis.
Betty hears the lock unclick in the front door. Grabbing Jughead’s portfolio from his desk she sneaks off into her room to get dressed. Flipping through a few pages, Betty admires his work until he yells down the hall, signaling his arrival. She settles into a pair of yoga pants and an old T-shirt. Quickly, she runs a brush through her damp hair and tosses it up into a messy bun, eager to get to her Chinese food.
The scent of soy sauce assaults her senses as she walks towards the kitchen. Betty inhales it welcomingly. “Something smells amazing.” She says, grabbing two forks from the drawer next to the fridge and handing one to Jughead.
He accepts the utensil and stabs a piece of his General Tso chicken, popping it in his mouth and moaning deeply. Betty finds it almost orgasmic. “Courtesy of Ying and Yang Takee Outee. Whoever invented American-Chinese food is a God.” Jughead replies with a full mouth.
Betty nods in agreement as she takes a bite, feeling as though she just swallowed a little bit of heaven. “I know. My life wouldn’t be the same without it. Where are those fortune cookies I asked you about?”
Jughead smiles and empties his jacket pockets. At least ten or so fortune cookies roll out onto the table. “I may have taken a few extra. They really shouldn’t leave a bowl of them sitting there on the counter next to the register. I practically emptied them out.”
Betty scans the table in front of her, carefully choosing two cookies and hoarding them near her plate. Jughead arches an eyebrow in amusement and Betty swoons at the sight. She blushes. “What? My future depends on these cookies. They’ve never steered me wrong before.”
Jughead laughs and looks up at Betty. “I also picked up some of your favorite wine. Archie and Ronnie are coming over tonight for games. I figured after the stressful day I’ve caused you, you could use a little pick me up.”
Smiling at his gesture, Betty takes another bite and glances down at her food. She knows the wine is a bribe but she willingly accepts it. After all Cherry Wine is one of her weaknesses. “Thank you Jughead, that’s really sweet of you. But you’re not getting me to agree to your little project that easily.” She unwraps a fortune cookie from its plastic coating and breaks the shell apart. ‘Be prepared to accept an exciting opportunity in the future’, she read to herself, unable to handle the irony of it.
The boy in the crown shaped beanie groans. “But I bought you Chinese food. I committed a felony for you.” He points to the scattered fortune cookies and laughs. “They may never let me step foot in there again.”
“I hardly doubt pilfering fortune cookies from a Chinese Restaurant constitutes itself as a felony. You must live in your own fantasy world Jughead.”
Jughead grins. “I do. It’s a great place, you should come visit sometime.”
They both laugh and continue eating their dinner before it gets too cold. Jughead doesn’t mention the photoshoot again and Betty is thankful for that.
Around 8 o’clock Ronnie and Archie barge into their apartment with an assortment of snacks, beer, and games. “Betty!” Ronnie runs to Betty and envelopes her in a hug, as if they hadn’t last seen each other just the day before. Ronnie gives her a look, silently asking if she’s agreed to Jughead’s proposal. Betty shakes her head and walks around her friend. She reaches into the cabinets and grabs them each a wine glass, happy to share with her friend.
“But look what he bought me to try and sway my decision.”
Ronnie’s eyes go wide. “That’s a $60 bottle of wine Betty.” Ronnie nudges Betty’s shoulder. “I’m telling you, he REALLY wants to see you naked. And not just because of his assignment.”
Betty rolls her eyes and takes the bottle of wine and the two glasses into the living room, where the boys are sitting around the coffee table, setting up a game Betty’s never played before.
“What’s this?” She asks, setting the glasses and wine down on the table. She pulls the ottoman over from beneath the window so she has something to sit on besides the floor. Betty pats the spot next to her, inviting Ronnie to sit beside her.
“This, my dear Betty, is a very dirty game. You’re going to need this,” Archie hands her a three ring binder, labeled The Dick-sho-nary.
“Clever.” Betty giggles, opening it up and reading through the words and phrases, most she’d never heard of before. “Where did you get these from, Urban Dictionary?”
Archie shakes his head, setting up the board game and grabbing out a dry eraser board and multiple colored markers. “It’s called Draw What? It’s like a twisted turn on Pictionary, and a lot more fun. The dictionary comes with the game. Ronnie organized the binder though.”
Ronnie nods and pours her and Betty a glass of wine each. “This baby isn’t going to last us long.” She says, tapping a perfectly manicured nail against the glass bottle.
Jughead pops the top on his beer and takes a refreshing sip of the amber liquid. “Don’t worry, I bought two.” He smiles smugly at the girls and takes another sip.
Ronnie turns to Betty and leans over to whisper in her ear. “Yup, he definitely wants to see you naked.”
Betty feels all the heat in her body rush to her cheeks, turning them a nice rosy red. She takes a long sip of her wine, finishing half the glass before setting it back down on the table, ignoring Ronnie’s comment. “So if this is like Pictionary, shouldn’t we have teams?”
Archie nods. “Yeah. Boys vs. girls work for you ladies?”
“Sounds perfect, Betty and I always win anyway.” Ronnie wraps her arm around Betty and leans her head on her shoulder.
Betty becomes captivated by the game. The little pawns are different colored butt plugs that they use to move around the board, and every so often a team lands on an ‘Act It Out’ square. Archie was unfortunate enough to have to act out ‘Suck a bag of dicks’. Betty almost pees her pants at Jughead’s reaction when he read the card, unable to correctly guess the answer.
“How is that even a thing?” Betty asks, still laughing as she reads the card, taking another sip of her wine, already on her third glass.
The game ends and Ronnie and Betty come out victorious, all to Jughead’s lack of guessing skills. They raise a toast and shout, “To sucking a bag of dicks!” Betty erupts into a fit of giggles, tears appearing at the corner of her eyes.
For the next round the teams switch, now Ronnie and Archie versus Betty and Jughead. Once Jughead is beside her, Betty leans over and places her hand over his. “Don’t worry Juggie, I had no idea what he was acting out either.”
Before the second game starts up, Betty excuses herself to use to the restroom. Stumbling into the bathroom she looks in the mirror. Her cheeks are flushed and little pieces of loose blonde curls frame the sides of her face. Quickly she pees, knowing she’ll regret it in 20 minutes when she’ll need to go again.
She flushes and washes her hands, ready to return to her friends when Ronnie walks in. Betty gasps. “I could have been indisposed!”
“Shut up Betty, I’ve seen you pee before, it wouldn’t have been anything new to me.” Ronnie checks her lipstick in the mirror and runs her fingers through her hair. “I really needed to tell you something though.”
Betty looks at her, waiting. “Tell me what?”
Ronnie smiles slyly. “Oh just that Jughead’s barely taken his eyes off of you all night. Have you noticed?”
The blonde shakes her head, her bun loosening on her head.
“Well he has. I really think you should pose for him. It might lead to a beautiful budding relationship. Not as beautiful and as budding as mine and Archie’s, but it could be close.”
Betty lowers her gaze and chews on her bottom lip, lost in thought. He’d been so nice to her that evening, and had even spent over $120.00 on wine for her. He stole fortune cookies and bought her dinner. And he really did help her out back when she’d been stressing over her thesis paper two years ago. All she had to do was take her clothes off for him and smile.
“I think I’m going to do it,” she whispers, feeling an unfamiliar warmth inside her belly.
“No way Betts, are you serious? Just ask him to do a practice shoot first and wear all your clothes or maybe just your underwear. Find out what makes you comfortable.”
Betty nods. “I wish I had your confidence V. Hey, maybe we could both do the shoot together.”
Ronnie’s eyes are wide as saucers. “As much as I’m sure Jughead and Archie would love those pictures, I’m going to have to take a hard pass on that one. But if you’d like me to star in the trial run, I wouldn’t argue.” Ronnie unbuttons the top three buttons on her blouse.
Betty shrugs and forces Ronnie out of the bathroom. “Sure, why not?”
While waiting for Betty, Jughead turns on the stereo, playing music through his phone. He can’t stand sitting still so he brings the empty beer bottles into the kitchen and grabs a few fresh ones for Archie and himself. “What do you think they’re talking about in there?” Jughead asks, removing the beanie from his bed and setting it on the kitchen table.
“Who knows? Archie stretches and accepts the beer Jughead hands to him. “All I know is that buying that wine was an A+ idea Jug. Ronnie’s going to be fun tonight.” He winks.
Jughead groans and sits down on the ottoman. He wants what Archie and Ronnie have. And worst of all he wants it with Betty.
He’d been smitten with her since a party they once went to together in high school. An old friend of theirs, Cheryl Blossom, had thrown a party after prom. As shitty as it was she made everyone participate in that stupid Seven Minutes in Heaven game. Despite always considering himself a rather unlucky person, Jughead had struck gold that night when the bottle spun and landed on Betty. He figured since they were friends they could just stand in the closet and talk for seven minutes without being peer pressured into doing something they’d regret.
To his surprise, just before the seven minutes had ended, Betty kissed him, thanking him for not trying to pull anything on her while trapped in the tiny closet together. She had been his first kiss. It was gentle, her lips as soft as flower petals against his mouth.
In the past 6 years since the incident he’d kissed other girls, even had a few girlfriends here and there, but no one else’s lips ignited a fire inside him the way Betty’s had. Cliché as it may sound, he’d felt something that night, a feeling he’d craved ever since.
Jughead takes another sip from his beer, lamenting on the old memories as the girls emerge from the bathroom together. Betty’s cheeks are a deep magenta and her eyes are unfocused. “Are you okay?” Jughead asks her softly, wondering if he should cut her off.
“I’m fine Juggie,” she smiles at him and puts her hand on his shoulder. “But thank you for worrying about me.”
Betty pours herself another glass of wine and takes a few sips while Jughead prepares for the next game. Before they get a chance to play, the song changes and Betty jumps up to her feet in excitement. “Don’t you dare skip this track Jughead Jones.”
Betty pulls Ronnie off of Archie’s lap and the girls dance together in the middle of the living room. Jughead checks his phone, recognizing the song by The 1975. Going along the song, Betty removes the ponytail from her hair and shakes her head out, letting the blonde waves fall effortlessly around her heart shaped face.
She and Ronnie sing along, dancing and twirling each other around the room. Jughead laughs and grabs his Polaroid camera from the table beside the couch. He snaps a photo and sets it on the coffee table to develop. Once it’s ready, Jughead’s heart stops. Ronnie’s standing on her tiptoes, holding Betty’s hand as she twirls beneath her fingers. In the picture Betty’s hair is a blur, but her smile is clear and pure and infectious. He is definitely going to add this to his collection. He grabs a pen from his pocket and labels it fittingly, ‘Dancing Queens’.
The song ends and Jughead shows them the picture. Both girls are dizzy and out of breath, drunk on life and Cherry Wine. “We are so fire in this,” Ronnie breathes, demanding he make a copy for her.
Betty studies the picture a little closer, with her lip between her teeth. “I love it. Can I keep it?” Her eyes are full of hope and Jughead can’t help but say yes, with conditions applying.
“Only if you let me photograph you. Please Betty. I swear no one will see the photos except for me and Ms. Grundy.”
Without hesitation she nods and Jughead’s blinks quickly, afraid he imagined the tilt of her head. “I’ll do it.” His palms collect sweat that wasn’t there moments before. He rubs them on his jeans, afraid she’ll notice how anxious he is at the news. “But can we do trial shoot, tonight?” Betty grabs Ronnie’s arm and smiles. “Of the both of us?”
Jughead swallows the lump in his throat and agrees. “Of course. Let me just go get my camera and a backdrop.” He walks down the hall and into his room. He finds his camera on his desk and grabs a grey sheet from his closet. His hands are shaking with anticipation.
Back out in the living room he stands on the ottoman to hang the sheet over the curtains. Archie helps him prepare, obviously excited to watch his girlfriend participate in a photoshoot. “You’ll give me copies of these, right?” Archie asks with wide, questioning eyes. Jughead nods and thanks him for his assistance.
Jughead turns on the standing lamp beside to the TV and angles it to face the temporary backdrop. It’s not perfect, but it will do. “Now when we shoot the real photos, we’ll be in the studio provided by the school. I’ve already scheduled a private shoot, so you won’t have to worry about being walked in on or anything like that. Do you want me to play that song again?” Jughead asks Betty, wanting her to feel as comfortable and confident as possible.
“It okay, just put on anything. We’ll make it work.” She takes a rather large gulp of her wine and moves to stand in front of the sheet with Ronnie, listening as she tries to give her suggestions on different poses to use. Another favorite song of Betty’s plays from the stereo and her face is nothing but smiles. Jughead captures the moment, zooming in on the angel before him.
“Now when it’s just me and you, the photos won’t be exactly like this,” Jughead explains, clicking away. “I’d rather you be more candid, not so much posing as just being yourself. The dancing is great though. We’ll definitely have to incorporate that into the private shoot.”
Betty blushes and reaches for Ronnie, undoing the next button down on her blouse. Archie lets out a soft whistle from his place on the couch, definitely not expecting the girls to dance together, undressing each other. “What is going on?” He asks, surprised but not upset in the slightest.
Ronnie chuckles softly and looks at him. “We’re trying to help Betty prepare babe. It’s just a little skin.”
Both girls are in their bras, hugging each other and smiling at the camera. Jughead feels sweat pool along the edge of his forehead. He ignores how hot the room suddenly becomes. He warns himself to keep his cool and continues snapping picture after picture
In the last photo, Betty’s hand is on Ronnie’s waist and Ronnie’s lips are pressed against Betty’s rosy cheeks. “I think that’s enough.” Jughead says, carefully adjusting the lens and handing the camera to Betty to study the photographs
“These are amazing Jug,” Betty replies, setting the camera down next to the TV, afraid to set it on the coffee table near the full glasses of wine. “You’re going to make me look beautiful, aren’t you?”
Jughead exhales deeply, knowing fully well that Betty doesn’t need his help in order to be beautiful. She is beautiful all on her own, with jaded eyes and porcelain skin. He looks at her with soft eyes, noticing the reluctance in her gaze. “Yes, Betty. I promise to make you beautiful.”

In a poem bemoaning the absence of virtuous rulers, the SHIHCHING SAYS, “Who can cook fish / I’ll wash out the pot” (Kuei: 4).
LI HSI-CHAI says, “For the sage, ruling a state is a minor affair, like cooking a small fish.”
HO-SHANG KUNG says, “If you cook a small fish, don’t remove its entrails, don’t scrape off its scales, and don’t stir it. If you do, it will turn to mush. Likewise, too much government makes those below rebel. And too much cultivation makes one’s vitality wither.”
HAN FEI says, “In cooking a small fish, too much turning ruins it. In governing a great state, too much reform embitters the people. Thus, a ruler who possesses the Way values inaction over reform.”
TE CH’ING says, “A cruel government brings calamity down on the people. The people, however, think their suffering is the work of ghosts and spirits and turn to sacrifice and worship to improve their lot, when actually their misfortune is caused by their rulers.”
THE TSOCHUAN says, “If the state is meant ot flourish, listen to the people. If the state is meant to perish, listen to the spirits” (Chuang: 32).
WANG CHEN says, “The government that takes peace as its basis doesn’t lose the Way. When the government doesn’t lose the Way, yin and yang are in harmony. When yin and yang are in harmony, wind and rain arrive on time. When wind and rain arrive on time, the spirit world is at peace. When the spirit world is at peace, the legion of demons can’t perform their sorcery.”
WANG PI says, “Spirits don’t injure what is natural. What is natural gives spirits no opening. When spirits have no opening, spirits cannot act like spirits.”
CH’ENG HSUAN-YING says, “Spirits dwell in the yin, and people dwell in the yang. When both accept their lot, neither injures the other.”
SU CH’E says, “The inaction of the sage makes people content with the way they are. Outside, nothing troubles them. Inside, nothing frightens them. Even spirits have no means of using their powers. It isn’t that spirits have no powers. The have powers, but they don’t use them to harm people. The reason people and spirits don’t harm each other is because they look up to the sage. And the sage never harms anyone.”
WU CH’ENG says, “The reason spirits don’t harm the people is not because they can’t but because the sage is able to harmonize the energy of the people so that they don’t injure the energy of the spirit world. The reason neither injures the other is due to the sage’s virtue. Hence, both worlds rely on the virtue of the sage.”
HSUAN-TSUNG says, “‘Neither’ here refers to spirits and the sage.”
LI JUNG says, “Spirits and sages help people without harming each other. One is hidden, the other manifest. But both rely on virtue.”
SUNG CH’ANG-HSING says, “Spirits are spirits because they respond but can’t be seen. Sages are sages because they govern but don’t act. The virtue of sages and the virtue of spirits is the same.”

I entitled my commentary on today’s verse “Who Can Cook Fish?” both to bemoan the absence of virtuous rulers (as the Shihching, in a poem, does) and to bemoan that we have a long history of being a superstitious people.
Lao-tzu goes out of his way, it seems to me, acknowledging the people’s concerns with spirits, while teaching how to avoid any harm from them. Oh the concessions he makes! “I’m not saying they have no powers… I am not saying their powers can’t do harm….”
The problem, as Te Ch’ing points out, is that the people have it all wrong in blaming their suffering on spirits. It is their cruel government which brings calamity down on the people. Ho-shang Kung explains it so well: “If you cook a small fish, don’t remove its entrails, don’t scrape off its scales, and don’t stir it. If you do, it will turn to mush. Likewise, too much government makes those below rebel. And too much cultivation makes one’s vitality wither.”
Wait! Hasn’t Lao-tzu been teaching about the need for cultivation? What’s this about too much cultivation? But, of course, Lao-tzu also teaches about the need to know when enough is enough, and when to stop. Too much cultivation can likewise be referring to interfering in the people’s lives, rather than leaving them alone. As Han Fei says, “A ruler who possesses the Way values inaction over reform.” Reform is simply a synonym for action.
Wang Chen explains how we are governed has an effect, positive or negative, on the course of otherwise natural events (which people attributed to spirits) like wind and rain.
Su Ch’e says, when a sage is content with inaction, the people will be content with the way they are. When nothing outside troubles them, nothing inside frightens them. But, even he concedes it isn’t that “spirits” have no powers, just that they won’t use their powers to harm people. And it is all thanks to the sage.
Well, I just guess whatever you think might work to convince would-be leaders to choose a course of inaction is okay with me. If people want to be superstitious, let them. Leave them alone. Govern correctly, and you will keep the bogey man away.
Rely on Virtue. That is what the sage does. And if there are spirits needing to be kept appeased, well, they rely on Virtue, too.

TSOCHUAN (ANNALS OF TSO). First comprehensive account of the major political events of the Spring and Autumn Periods (722-481 B.C.). It was compiled during the fourth century B.C. by Tso ch’iu-ming about whom we know nothing else.

Yet my mind is in the grip of tempestuous disturbing emotions,

And as our negative actions and karma grow ever stronger,
དུས་སྙིགས་མ་ལྔ་བདོའི་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས། །
dünyik ma nga dö semchen nam
All that awaits the sentient beings of this degenerate age
འོག་ངན་སོང་གཡང་ས་ཁོ་ནར་ལྷུང༌། །
ok ngensong yangsa khonar lhung
Is to fall into the depths of the lower realms:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་དོན་མ་མཆིས། །
lé ngar jé nam ladön ma chi
Whatever I’ve done in the past has been devoid of any meaning,
ཆོས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་ཆོས་བརྒྱད་འདྲེས། །
chö ngar jé nam la chö gyé dré
The Dharma I have practised till now has been riddled with the eight worldly preoccupations,
ལམ་རྣལ་མ་བསྒྲུབས་པ་གཅིག་མ་དྲན། །
lam nalma drubpa chik ma dren
Never did it occur to me, even once, to follow the genuine path.
ད་ཁྱེད་རང་མིན་པ་རེ་ས་མེད། །
da khyerang minpa resa mé
Now there is no-one I can rely on, save you:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལར་གཤིན་རྗེའི་སྐྱེས་བུས་རྒྱབ་ནས་དེད། །
lar shinjé kyebü gyab né dé
While the Lord of Death hounds me from behind,
དུས་ལོ་ཟླ་ཞག་གི་མདུན་ནས་བསུས། །
dü loda shyak gi dün né sü
Days, months, years—time draws me onwards from in front,
འཕྲལ་རྣམ་གཡེང་བྱ་བས་བར་ནས་བྲིད། །
tral namyeng jawé bar né dri
And in between, seduced and enthralled by distraction,
དེ་མ་ཚོར་བསླུས་ཤིག་བྱུང་ཉན་གདའ། །
dé ma tsor lü shik jung nyen da
The danger is that, without ever even realizing it, I’ll be completely deceived:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 གཞོན་དབང་པོ་གསལ་ཚེ་བྱིས་པའི་སེམས། །
shyön wangpo sal tsé jipé sem
In the prime of youth, the mind is immature.
ལུས་དར་ལ་བབ་ཚེ་བྲེལ་བས་གཡེང༌། །
lü dar la bab tsé drelwé yeng
When we come of age, we’re distracted by busyness.
ད་རྒས་ཤིང་འཁོགས་པར་གྱུར་པའི་ཚེ། །
da gé shing khokpar gyurpé tsé
Once old age and infirmity set in,
ཆོས་གཤའ་མ་དྲན་ཀྱང་ཕྱིས་ནས་སོང༌། །
chö shama dren kyang chi né song
We may think about the real Dharma, but then it’s far too late:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 རང་སྡོད་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་སྡོད་དབང་མེད། །
rang döpar dö kyang dö wangmé
I wish to stay on here, but it’s out of my control,
ནོར་ཁྱེར་བར་འདོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱེར་མི་བཏུབ། །
nor khyerwar dö kyang khyer mi tub
I wish to bring my possessions, but I cannot take a thing,
གྲོགས་འགྲོགས་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་རང་གཅིག་པུ། །
drok drokpar dö kyang rang chikpu
I wish for the comfort of companions, but I have to go alone;
སང་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཕ་རོལ་འགྲོ་བར་ངེས། །
sang jikten parol drowar ngé
Sooner or later, I will go on to the next world, that’s for sure:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ཚེ་འདི་ཡི་བག་ཆགས་འཕེན་པའི་མཐུས། །
tsé di yi bakchak penpé tü
Propelled by the habitual patterns of this life,
ལམ་བར་དོའི་འཕྲང་ལ་ཅི་འདྲ་ཨང༌། །
lamwar dö trang la chindra ang
What will it be like, my journey through the bardo realm?
དཔེ་མདང་སུམ་ཉལ་བའི་རྨི་ལམ་བཞིན། །
pé dangsum nyalwé milam shyin
It will be as hard for me to control
ལར་རང་དབང་ཐོབ་པ་ཤིན་ཏུ་དཀའ། །

As the dreams I had in my sleep last night:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 སྤྱིར་འཁོར་བའི་ཆོས་ལ་སྙིང་པོ་མེད། །
chir khorwé chö la nyingpo mé
All things in saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are devoid of any substance,
སྒོས་མི་རྟག་ལུས་ལ་སྙིང་པོ་མེད། །
gö mi tak lü la nyingpo mé
This body will not last, and has no reality of its own.
འདི་ནམ་མཁར་ཤར་བའི་འཇའ་ཚོན་འདྲ། །
di namkhar sharwé jatsön dra
Like the rainbow that arches across the sky,
དེ་བདེན་པར་བཟུང་ཡང་ཡལ་ནས་འགྲོ། །
dé denpar zung yang yal né dro
It is taken as real, but fades into thin air:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ཡར་སངས་རྒྱས་རྣམས་ལ་དད་པ་མེད། །

Towards the buddhas, I have not the slightest devotion,
མར་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ལ་སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆུང༌། །
mar semchen nam la nyingjé chung
For sentient beings, only the meagrest compassion,
གོས་ངུར་སྨྲིག་གྱོན་ཀྱང་གཟུགས་བརྙན་ཙམ། །
gö ngurmik gyön kyang zuknyen tsam
The red robes I wear are only a show, and
སྐྲ་སྤུ་གྲིས་གཞར་ཡང་དོན་སྒོ་ཆུང༌། །
tra pudri shyar yang dön go chung
My shaven head means next to nothing:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །

So many teachings I’ve heard, but I’ve not yet got the crucial point,
ཁ་བཤད་པ་ཚོ་ཡང་རྒྱུད་མ་དུལ། །
kha shepa tso yang gyü ma dul
However artful at talking, my basic being is still untamed,
གནས་རི་ཁྲོད་འགྲིམ་ཡང་ཁྱིམ་ལ་སྲེད། །
né ritrö drim yang khyim la sé
I put myself into retreat, but I’m craving for home and family,
མིག་ལྟ་སྟངས་བྱས་ཀྱང་ཉམས་མྱོང་མེད། །
mik tatang jé kyang nyamnyong mé
I’ve got my eyes in the right gaze, but lack any real experience:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 མི་གཞན་གྱི་སྐྱོན་མཚང་ཆུང་ངུ་རིག །
mi shyen gyi kyön tsang chung ngu rik
By marking even the smallest failing in others,
རང་ཁོང་ནས་རུལ་བ་ཡེ་མ་ཚོར། །
rang khong né rulwa yé ma tsor
But failing ever to notice how rotten I am inside,
མི་གཞན་གྱི་མགོ་བོ་བསྐོར་བསྐོར་ནས། །
mi shyen gyi gowo kor kor né
By constantly fooling and misleading other people,
སྡུག་རང་གི་ཉོས་པ་མ་ལགས་སམ། །
duk rang gi nyöpa ma lak sam
Aren’t I just purchasing my own misery?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ཁོང་རྒྱལ་བའི་གསུང་རབ་མ་ལུས་ཀུན། །
khong gyalwé sung rab malü kün
How can ignoring that the teachings of all the buddhas
སེམས་རྒྱུད་ལ་ཨེ་ཕན་མི་སེམས་པར། །
semgyü la é pen mi sempar
Are there to benefit my mind,
ཁེ་གྲགས་པ་སྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར་ཐོས་བསམ་བྱས། །
khé drakpa drub chir tö sam jé
And studying instead for the sake of profit or renown,
དེ་ཐར་པའི་ལམ་དུ་ཨེ་འགྲོ་ཨང༌། །
dé tarpé lam du é dro ang
Ever lead me along the path of liberation?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa

 ང་ཆོས་པའི་ཚུལ་གྱིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྒྲུབ། །

Passing for a practitioner, my practice is only worldly achievement,
ལར་སྐྱེ་བོ་ཀུན་གྱི་མཆོད་པ་ལེན། །
lar kyewo kün gyi chöpa len
Taking offerings from all and sundry,
ཚེ་ཡང་ཡེང་བྱ་བའི་ངང་དུ་བཏང༌། །
tsé yang yeng jawé ngang du tang
Careless and easy-going, I watch my life go by.
དབུགས་ཁྲོག་གེར་འགྲོ་དུས་ཅི་འདྲ་ཨང༌། །
uk trok ger dro dü chindra ang
Yet when I breathe out for the very last time, what’ll happen to me then?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 བདག་དེ་སླད་སྐྱོ་བ་གཏིང་ནས་སྐྱེས། །
dak dé lé kyowa tingné kyé
Because of all this, I feel my heart breaking in sorrow,
ཡར་སངས་རྒྱས་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
yar sangye nam la solwa deb
And I pray now to all the buddhas,
སྤྱིར་སྙིགས་མའི་དུས་ཀྱི་སེམས་ཅན་དང༌། །
chir nyikmé dü kyi semchen dang
For the beings of this degenerate age, and
སྒོས་ཆོས་གཟུགས་ཚུལ་ཅན་བདག་སོགས་ལ། །
gö chö zuk tsulchen dak sok la
Especially those like me, who just bear the likeness of practitioners:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །

 བུ་ང་ལ་རེ་ས་གཞན་ན་མེད། །

This child has no-one to rely on now but you.
བྱ་བྲལ་གྱི་སྐྱིད་སྡུག་ཁྱེད་རང་ཤེས། །
jadral gyi kyiduk khyerang shé
Idling my time away—happy, suffering, whatever happens to me, I am in your hands.
དབྱིངས་ཟག་མེད་བདེ་ཆེན་ཕོ་བྲང་ནས། །
ying zakmé dechen podrang né
Lord, in the palace of the space of immaculate great bliss,
མགོན་ཁྱེད་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་རོ་གཅིག་ཤོག །
gön khyé dang yermé ro chik shok
May I remain one with you, always and forever!

Dọa bắn nát trường, du học sinh Đài Loan bị trục xuất khỏi Mỹ
Sun An-tso, học sinh người Đài Loan đến Mỹ theo chương trình trao đổi học sinh, bị bắt vì đe dọa tấn công trường học, sẽ bị trục xuất về nước.
Sun An-tso, 18 tuổi bị cảnh sát giam giữ kể từ tháng 3 sau khi có lời đe dọa. Cậu ta nói với một bạn học "Đừng đến trường vào ngày 1/5 vì tôi sẽ bắn nát trường", rồi sau đó nói thêm, "Tôi chỉ nói đùa thôi", theo lời giới chức cảnh sát Michael Chitwood, bản tin của CBS News cho hay.

Kyema! Beloved master, precious one, father of mine,
ཁྱོད་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་ཀྱང༌། །
khyö sangye kün dang yermé kyang
You are forever one with all the buddhas,
དེང་མོས་པའི་བུ་ལ་ཐུགས་བརྩེ་བས། །
deng möpé bu la tuk tsewé
Now show your kindness and love to your devoted child,
འཕྲལ་རྒྱལ་སྲས་མཆོག་གི་ཚུལ་བཟུང་ནས། །
tral gyalsé chok gi tsul zung né
You who took birth intentionally
ལར་བསམ་བཞིན་སྐྱེ་བ་བཞེས་མཛད་པའི། །
lar samshyin kyewa shyé dzepé
In the form of a supreme bodhisattva—
དཔལ་ཀརྨ་པ་ཞེས་ཡོངས་སུ་གྲགས། །
pal karma pa shyé yongsu drak
Renowned universally as the glorious Karmapa.
 རྗེ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་མི་དམན་ཡང༌། །
jé khyö kyi jinlab mi men yang
Precious lord, your blessings are not without power,
རྒྱུད་ཉོན་མོངས་དྲག་པོས་ཡོངས་བཟུང་ནས། །
gyü nyönmong drakpö yong zung né
Yet my mind is in the grip of tempestuous disturbing emotions,
ལས་ནག་པོའི་སྤྱོད་པ་དར་བའི་ཚེ། །
lé nakpö chöpa darwé tsé
And as our negative actions and karma grow ever stronger,
དུས་སྙིགས་མ་ལྔ་བདོའི་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས། །
dünyik ma nga dö semchen nam
All that awaits the sentient beings of this degenerate age
འོག་ངན་སོང་གཡང་ས་ཁོ་ནར་ལྷུང༌། །
ok ngensong yangsa khonar lhung
Is to fall into the depths of the lower realms:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་དོན་མ་མཆིས། །
lé ngar jé nam ladön ma chi
Whatever I’ve done in the past has been devoid of any meaning,
ཆོས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་ཆོས་བརྒྱད་འདྲེས། །
chö ngar jé nam la chö gyé dré
The Dharma I have practised till now has been riddled with the eight worldly preoccupations,
ལམ་རྣལ་མ་བསྒྲུབས་པ་གཅིག་མ་དྲན། །
lam nalma drubpa chik ma dren
Never did it occur to me, even once, to follow the genuine path.
ད་ཁྱེད་རང་མིན་པ་རེ་ས་མེད། །
da khyerang minpa resa mé
Now there is no-one I can rely on, save you:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལར་གཤིན་རྗེའི་སྐྱེས་བུས་རྒྱབ་ནས་དེད། །
lar shinjé kyebü gyab né dé
While the Lord of Death hounds me from behind,
དུས་ལོ་ཟླ་ཞག་གི་མདུན་ནས་བསུས། །
dü loda shyak gi dün né sü
Days, months, years—time draws me onwards from in front,
འཕྲལ་རྣམ་གཡེང་བྱ་བས་བར་ནས་བྲིད། །
tral namyeng jawé bar né dri
And in between, seduced and enthralled by distraction,
དེ་མ་ཚོར་བསླུས་ཤིག་བྱུང་ཉན་གདའ། །
dé ma tsor lü shik jung nyen da
The danger is that, without ever even realizing it, I’ll be completely deceived:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 གཞོན་དབང་པོ་གསལ་ཚེ་བྱིས་པའི་སེམས། །
shyön wangpo sal tsé jipé sem
In the prime of youth, the mind is immature.
ལུས་དར་ལ་བབ་ཚེ་བྲེལ་བས་གཡེང༌། །
lü dar la bab tsé drelwé yeng
When we come of age, we’re distracted by busyness.
ད་རྒས་ཤིང་འཁོགས་པར་གྱུར་པའི་ཚེ། །
da gé shing khokpar gyurpé tsé
Once old age and infirmity set in,
ཆོས་གཤའ་མ་དྲན་ཀྱང་ཕྱིས་ནས་སོང༌། །
chö shama dren kyang chi né song
We may think about the real Dharma, but then it’s far too late:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 རང་སྡོད་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་སྡོད་དབང་མེད། །
rang döpar dö kyang dö wangmé
I wish to stay on here, but it’s out of my control,
ནོར་ཁྱེར་བར་འདོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱེར་མི་བཏུབ། །
nor khyerwar dö kyang khyer mi tub
I wish to bring my possessions, but I cannot take a thing,
གྲོགས་འགྲོགས་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་རང་གཅིག་པུ། །
drok drokpar dö kyang rang chikpu
I wish for the comfort of companions, but I have to go alone;
སང་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཕ་རོལ་འགྲོ་བར་ངེས། །
sang jikten parol drowar ngé
Sooner or later, I will go on to the next world, that’s for sure:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa

 ཚེ་འདི་ཡི་བག་ཆགས་འཕེན་པའི་མཐུས། །
tsé di yi bakchak penpé tü
Propelled by the habitual patterns of this life,
ལམ་བར་དོའི་འཕྲང་ལ་ཅི་འདྲ་ཨང༌། །
lamwar dö trang la chindra ang
What will it be like, my journey through the bardo realm?
དཔེ་མདང་སུམ་ཉལ་བའི་རྨི་ལམ་བཞིན། །
pé dangsum nyalwé milam shyin
It will be as hard for me to control
ལར་རང་དབང་ཐོབ་པ་ཤིན་ཏུ་དཀའ། །
lar rangwang tobpa shintu ka

yar sangye nam la solwa deb
And I pray now to all the buddhas,
སྤྱིར་སྙིགས་མའི་དུས་ཀྱི་སེམས་ཅན་དང༌། །
chir nyikmé dü kyi semchen dang
For the beings of this degenerate age, and
སྒོས་ཆོས་གཟུགས་ཚུལ་ཅན་བདག་སོགས་ལ། །
gö chö zuk tsulchen dak sok la
Especially those like me, who just bear the likeness of practitioners:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 བུ་ང་ལ་རེ་ས་གཞན་ན་མེད། །
bu nga la resa shyen namé
This child has no-one to rely on now but you.
བྱ་བྲལ་གྱི་སྐྱིད་སྡུག་ཁྱེད་རང་ཤེས། །
jadral gyi kyiduk khyerang shé
Idling my time away—happy, suffering, whatever happens to me, I am in your hands.
དབྱིངས་ཟག་མེད་བདེ་ཆེན་ཕོ་བྲང་ནས། །
ying zakmé dechen podrang né
Lord, in the palace of the space of immaculate great bliss,
མགོན་ཁྱེད་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་རོ་གཅིག་ཤོག །

May I remain one with you, always and forever!

Calling the Lama from afar is a very used practise that helps us developed to devotion for our lama and our lineage.
Devotion also helps us to develop compassion, toward ourself and our mistakes, devotion towards the buddha toward the dharma that all representation of the teachers.
The Story :
On my first dharma centre, a lama from afar was the practice with Shine meditation on that day we were calling the lama and calming the mind.
I wanted to be close of my teacher that I learn the short version and call for him all time, now there are many ways to call your lama.
Garchen Rinooche teach that according to vajrayana our mind isn’t separate from each others. Realising that our mind isn’t deffiferent from all the Buddhas and our lama.
For us practitioners calling our lama is essential the way to do it :
Calling the lama from afar : is very powerful practice
Lama Mantra : like Karmapa or Garchen Rinpoche as mantra to call then
Prayers : simple thing in a world a single prayer.
Benefit of calling our lama is very simple blessing and realisation doing this help us on our path to enlightenment .

༄༅། །བླ་མ་རྒྱང་འབོད་བཞུགས་སོ། །
A Song of Calling the Guru from Afar

 ཀྱེ་མ། ཕ་རྗེ་བཙུན་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །
kyema, pa jetsün lama rinpoche
Kyema! Beloved master, precious one, father of mine,
ཁྱོད་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་ཀྱང༌། །
khyö sangye kün dang yermé kyang
You are forever one with all the buddhas,
དེང་མོས་པའི་བུ་ལ་ཐུགས་བརྩེ་བས། །
deng möpé bu la tuk tsewé
Now show your kindness and love to your devoted child,
འཕྲལ་རྒྱལ་སྲས་མཆོག་གི་ཚུལ་བཟུང་ནས། །
tral gyalsé chok gi tsul zung né
You who took birth intentionally
ལར་བསམ་བཞིན་སྐྱེ་བ་བཞེས་མཛད་པའི། །
lar samshyin kyewa shyé dzepé
In the form of a supreme bodhisattva—
དཔལ་ཀརྨ་པ་ཞེས་ཡོངས་སུ་གྲགས། །

Renowned universally as the glorious Karmapa.
 རྗེ་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་མི་དམན་ཡང༌། །
jé khyö kyi jinlab mi men yang
Precious lord, your blessings are not without power,
རྒྱུད་ཉོན་མོངས་དྲག་པོས་ཡོངས་བཟུང་ནས། །
gyü nyönmong drakpö yong zung né
Yet my mind is in the grip of tempestuous disturbing emotions,
ལས་ནག་པོའི་སྤྱོད་པ་དར་བའི་ཚེ། །
lé nakpö chöpa darwé tsé
And as our negative actions and karma grow ever stronger,
དུས་སྙིགས་མ་ལྔ་བདོའི་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས། །
dünyik ma nga dö semchen nam
All that awaits the sentient beings of this degenerate age
འོག་ངན་སོང་གཡང་ས་ཁོ་ནར་ལྷུང༌། །
ok ngensong yangsa khonar lhung
Is to fall into the depths of the lower realms:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་དོན་མ་མཆིས། །
lé ngar jé nam ladön ma chi
Whatever I’ve done in the past has been devoid of any meaning,
ཆོས་སྔར་བྱས་རྣམས་ལ་ཆོས་བརྒྱད་འདྲེས། །
chö ngar jé nam la chö gyé dré
The Dharma I have practised till now has been riddled with the eight worldly preoccupations,
ལམ་རྣལ་མ་བསྒྲུབས་པ་གཅིག་མ་དྲན། །
lam nalma drubpa chik ma dren
Never did it occur to me, even once, to follow the genuine path.
ད་ཁྱེད་རང་མིན་པ་རེ་ས་མེད། །
da khyerang minpa resa mé
Now there is no-one I can rely on, save you:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ལར་གཤིན་རྗེའི་སྐྱེས་བུས་རྒྱབ་ནས་དེད། །
lar shinjé kyebü gyab né dé
While the Lord of Death hounds me from behind,
དུས་ལོ་ཟླ་ཞག་གི་མདུན་ནས་བསུས། །
dü loda shyak gi dün né sü
Days, months, years—time draws me onwards from in front,
འཕྲལ་རྣམ་གཡེང་བྱ་བས་བར་ནས་བྲིད། །
tral namyeng jawé bar né dri
And in between, seduced and enthralled by distraction,
དེ་མ་ཚོར་བསླུས་ཤིག་བྱུང་ཉན་གདའ། །
dé ma tsor lü shik jung nyen da
The danger is that, without ever even realizing it, I’ll be completely deceived:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 གཞོན་དབང་པོ་གསལ་ཚེ་བྱིས་པའི་སེམས། །
shyön wangpo sal tsé jipé sem
In the prime of youth, the mind is immature.
ལུས་དར་ལ་བབ་ཚེ་བྲེལ་བས་གཡེང༌། །
lü dar la bab tsé drelwé yeng
When we come of age, we’re distracted by busyness.
ད་རྒས་ཤིང་འཁོགས་པར་གྱུར་པའི་ཚེ། །
da gé shing khokpar gyurpé tsé
Once old age and infirmity set in,
ཆོས་གཤའ་མ་དྲན་ཀྱང་ཕྱིས་ནས་སོང༌། །
chö shama dren kyang chi né song
We may think about the real Dharma, but then it’s far too late:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 རང་སྡོད་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་སྡོད་དབང་མེད། །
rang döpar dö kyang dö wangmé
I wish to stay on here, but it’s out of my control,
ནོར་ཁྱེར་བར་འདོད་ཀྱང་ཁྱེར་མི་བཏུབ། །
nor khyerwar dö kyang khyer mi tub
I wish to bring my possessions, but I cannot take a thing,
གྲོགས་འགྲོགས་པར་འདོད་ཀྱང་རང་གཅིག་པུ། །
drok drokpar dö kyang rang chikpu
I wish for the comfort of companions, but I have to go alone;
སང་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཕ་རོལ་འགྲོ་བར་ངེས། །
sang jikten parol drowar ngé
Sooner or later, I will go on to the next world, that’s for sure:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa

 ཚེ་འདི་ཡི་བག་ཆགས་འཕེན་པའི་མཐུས། །

Propelled by the habitual patterns of this life,
ལམ་བར་དོའི་འཕྲང་ལ་ཅི་འདྲ་ཨང༌། །
lamwar dö trang la chindra ang
What will it be like, my journey through the bardo realm?
དཔེ་མདང་སུམ་ཉལ་བའི་རྨི་ལམ་བཞིན། །
pé dangsum nyalwé milam shyin
It will be as hard for me to control
ལར་རང་དབང་ཐོབ་པ་ཤིན་ཏུ་དཀའ། །
lar rangwang tobpa shintu ka
As the dreams I had in my sleep last night:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 སྤྱིར་འཁོར་བའི་ཆོས་ལ་སྙིང་པོ་མེད། །

All things in saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are devoid of any substance,

gö mi tak lü la nyingpo mé
This body will not last, and has no reality of its own.
འདི་ནམ་མཁར་ཤར་བའི་འཇའ་ཚོན་འདྲ། །
di namkhar sharwé jatsön dra
Like the rainbow that arches across the sky,
དེ་བདེན་པར་བཟུང་ཡང་ཡལ་ནས་འགྲོ། །
dé denpar zung yang yal né dro
It is taken as real, but fades into thin air:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ཡར་སངས་རྒྱས་རྣམས་ལ་དད་པ་མེད། །
yar sangye nam la depamé
Towards the buddhas, I have not the slightest devotion,
མར་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ལ་སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆུང༌། །
mar semchen nam la nyingjé chung
For sentient beings, only the meagrest compassion,
གོས་ངུར་སྨྲིག་གྱོན་ཀྱང་གཟུགས་བརྙན་ཙམ། །
gö ngurmik gyön kyang zuknyen tsam
The red robes I wear are only a show, and
སྐྲ་སྤུ་གྲིས་གཞར་ཡང་དོན་སྒོ་ཆུང༌། །
tra pudri shyar yang dön go chung
My shaven head means next to nothing:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa

 ཆོས་ཐོས་པ་མང་ཡང་གནད་མ་ཁྲོལ། །

So many teachings I’ve heard, but I’ve not yet got the crucial point,
ཁ་བཤད་པ་ཚོ་ཡང་རྒྱུད་མ་དུལ། །
kha shepa tso yang gyü ma dul
However artful at talking, my basic being is still untamed,
གནས་རི་ཁྲོད་འགྲིམ་ཡང་ཁྱིམ་ལ་སྲེད། །
né ritrö drim yang khyim la sé
I put myself into retreat, but I’m craving for home and family,
མིག་ལྟ་སྟངས་བྱས་ཀྱང་ཉམས་མྱོང་མེད། །
mik tatang jé kyang nyamnyong mé
I’ve got my eyes in the right gaze, but lack any real experience:
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 མི་གཞན་གྱི་སྐྱོན་མཚང་ཆུང་ངུ་རིག །
mi shyen gyi kyön tsang chung ngu rik
By marking even the smallest failing in others,
རང་ཁོང་ནས་རུལ་བ་ཡེ་མ་ཚོར། །
rang khong né rulwa yé ma tsor
But failing ever to notice how rotten I am inside,
མི་གཞན་གྱི་མགོ་བོ་བསྐོར་བསྐོར་ནས། །
mi shyen gyi gowo kor kor né
By constantly fooling and misleading other people,
སྡུག་རང་གི་ཉོས་པ་མ་ལགས་སམ། །
duk rang gi nyöpa ma lak sam
Aren’t I just purchasing my own misery?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ཁོང་རྒྱལ་བའི་གསུང་རབ་མ་ལུས་ཀུན། །
khong gyalwé sung rab malü kün
How can ignoring that the teachings of all the buddhas
སེམས་རྒྱུད་ལ་ཨེ་ཕན་མི་སེམས་པར། །
semgyü la é pen mi sempar
Are there to benefit my mind,
ཁེ་གྲགས་པ་སྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར་ཐོས་བསམ་བྱས། །
khé drakpa drub chir tö sam jé
And studying instead for the sake of profit or renown,
དེ་ཐར་པའི་ལམ་དུ་ཨེ་འགྲོ་ཨང༌། །
dé tarpé lam du é dro ang
Ever lead me along the path of liberation?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 ང་ཆོས་པའི་ཚུལ་གྱིས་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྒྲུབ། །
nga chöpé tsul gyi jikten drub
Passing for a practitioner, my practice is only worldly achievement,
ལར་སྐྱེ་བོ་ཀུན་གྱི་མཆོད་པ་ལེན། །
lar kyewo kün gyi chöpa len
Taking offerings from all and sundry,
ཚེ་ཡང་ཡེང་བྱ་བའི་ངང་དུ་བཏང༌། །
tsé yang yeng jawé ngang du tang
Careless and easy-going, I watch my life go by.
དབུགས་ཁྲོག་གེར་འགྲོ་དུས་ཅི་འདྲ་ཨང༌། །
uk trok ger dro dü chindra ang
Yet when I breathe out for the very last time, what’ll happen to me then?
ཕ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུང་ཞིག་ཀརྨ་པ། །
pa tukjé zung shyik karma pa
Karmapa, father of mine, hold me with all your compassion!
 བདག་དེ་སླད་སྐྱོ་བ་གཏིང་ནས་སྐྱེས། །

Because of all this, I feel my heart breaking in sorrow,
ཡར་སངས་རྒྱས་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
yar sangye nam la solwa deb

Dọa bắn nát trường, du học sinh Đài Loan bị trục xuất khỏi Mỹ
Sun An-tso, học sinh người Đài Loan đến Mỹ theo chương trình trao đổi học sinh, bị bắt vì đe dọa tấn công trường học, sẽ bị trục xuất về nước.
Sun An-tso, 18 tuổi bị cảnh sát giam giữ kể từ tháng 3 sau khi có lời đe dọa. Cậu ta nói với một bạn học "Đừng đến trường vào ngày 1/5 vì tôi sẽ bắn nát trường", rồi sau đó nói thêm, "Tôi chỉ nói đùa thôi", theo lời giới chức cảnh sát Michael Chitwood, bản tin của CBS News cho hay.

In a poem bemoaning the absence of virtuous rulers, the SHIHCHING says, “Who can cook fish / I’ll wash out the pot (Kuei:4).
LI HSI-CHAI says, “For the sage, ruling a state is a minor affair, like cooking a small fish.”
HO-SHANG KUNG says, “If you cook a small fish, don’t remove its entrails, don’t scrape off its scales, and don’t stir it. If you do, it will turn to mush. Likewise, too much government makes those below rebel. And too much cultivation makes one’s vitality wither.”
HAN FEI says, “In cooking a small fish, too much turning ruins it. In governing a great state, too much reform embitters the people. Thus, a ruler who possesses the way values inaction over reform.”
TE-CH’ING says, “A cruel government brings calamity down on the people. The people, however, think their suffering is the work of ghosts and spirits and turn to sacrifice and worship to improve their lot, when actually their misfortune is caused by their rulers.”
THE TSOCHUAN says, “If the state is meant to flourish, listen to the people. If the state is meant to perish, listen to the spirits” (Chuang: 32).
WANG CHEN says, “The government that takes peace as its basis doesn’t lose the Way. When the government doesn’t lose the Way, yin and yang are in harmony. When yin and yang are in harmony, wind and rain arrive on time. When wind and rain arrive on time, the spirit world is at peace. When the spirit world is at peace, the legion of demons can’t perform their sorcery.”
WANG PI says, “Spirits don’t injure what is natural. What is natural gives spirits no opening. When spirits have no opening, spirits cannot act like spirits.”
CH’ENG HSUAN-YING says, Spirits dwell in the yin, and people dwell in the yang. When both accept their lot, neither injures the other.”
SU CH’E says, “The inaction of the sage makes people content with the way they are. Outside, nothing troubles them. Inside, nothing frightens them. Even spirits have no means of using their powers. It isn’t that spirits have no powers. They have powers, but they don’t use them to harm people. The reason people and spirits don’t harm each other is because they look up to the sage. And the sage never harms anyone.”
WU CH’ENG says, “The reason spirits don’t harm the people is not because they can’t but because the sage is able to harmonize the energy of the people so that they don’t injure the energy of the spirit world. The reason neither injures the other is due to the sage’s virtue. Hence, both worlds rely on the virtue of the sage.”
HSUAN-TSUNG says, “‘Neither’ here refers to spirits and the sage.”
LI JUNG says, “Spirits and sages help people without harming each other. One is hidden, the other manifest. But both rely on virtue.”
SUNG CH’ANG-HSING says, “Spirits are spirits because they respond but can’t be seen. Sages are sages because they govern but don’t act. The virtue of sages and the virtue of spirits is the same.”
And RED PINE adds, “Commenting on the Taoteching is also like cooking a small fish. Better to have left it in the sea. Commentators are divided as to whether the subjects of lines nine and ten are spirits and the people or spirits and the sage. Given the usual ambiguous syntax of the Chinese language, both are possible, but my reading gives the nod to spirits and sages.”

All this talk of spirits and Te-ch’ing cuts right to the chase, “A cruel government brings calamity down on the people. The people, however, think their suffering is the work of ghosts and spirits and turn to sacrifice and worship to improve their lot, when actually their misfortune is caused by their rulers.”
We have always been a superstitious people. Inventing ways to explain any mystery. Anything we can’t understand. The “powers of spirits” is a prime example. Of course, I have a more natural, rather than supernatural, explanation for these “spirits.” Anytime we “work against nature” we can expect nature to “work against us.” If we, first and foremost, do no harm to nature. Nature will do no harm to us. The virtue of the practice of non-action is that fish we are cooking, while being careful not to poke too much, will be all the better to eat when it is finished cooking. Governing yourself, and others, is like that. Rely on Virtue, and all will be well.

Arranged by style and region, it was reportedly compiled by Confucius from larger corpus of over 3,000 poems. It remained an essential part of traditional education until the twentieth century. There are half a dozen English translations.
TSOCHUAN (ANNALS OF TSO). First comprehensive account of the major political events of the Spring and Autumn Periods (722-481 B.C.). It was compiled during the fourth century B.C. by Tso Ch’iu-ming, about whom we know nothing else.
