The two of you were sent out on a mission, you were suppose to return the next day, but your enemies had other plans. Other plans that included you get hurt and Toshiro having to carry you back to the nearest place you could find.

You couldn't put much weight on your left leg and you insisted that you could walk, but Toshiro was too worried. He ignored you and demanded that you get on his back.

There was no point in arguing with you, so you climbed onto his back and he gave you a piggyback ride all the way to the little cabin in the woods.

"What if someone lives here?" you ask as Toshiro carries you up to the door.

"They're not home now," Toshiro retorts harshly, opening the door and stepping inside. Your eyes glance around the cabin, smelling of wood and honey.

It's not much. There's a bed snugged in the corner, two bookshelves, a little kitchenette, and a wooden table in the middle. Toshiro walks over to the bed and gently sits you down on it.

"Are you hungry?" Toshiro asks, walking into the kitchenette. You cock an eyebrow with surprise.

"You know how to cook?" you ask curiously.

"No...but I can try," he suggests, chewing on his bottom lip. Your eyes widen and you let out a tiny chuckle.

"Maybe hold off the cooking for another day. I really don't want you to burn down this cabin with both of us inside," you suggest and Toshiro nods his head, a smile panning across his face.

The sun starts to disappear over the horizon and the darkness settles in.

"Ok, then we should get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow," Toshiro explains and you pull back the cover, inviting him in.

"There's room, Toshiro," you point out, climbing underneath the covers.

"No, it's okay. I'll sleep on the ground."

"The bed is big enough for the two of us," you suggest and Toshiro shakes his head, still unsure.

"No, it's okay. You deserve sleep, too. Please," you plead with him, eyes softening. Toshiro lets out a tiny sigh and climbs into the bed with you.

You both lay there in the defining silence, too scared to even move or breath. You glance over at Toshiro, staring up at the ceiling. He turns his head and you quickly rip your gaze away.

He shifts in the bed at the same time you do. Your hands brush up against each other's and your heart skips a beat. Toshiro gulps and his eyes shift over to you.

His icy eyes lock onto yours as your hands are pressed together. You slowly move your hand over his, interlacing your fingers. Your breath hitches in your throat as you wait for his reaction.

You swear you could see a slight smile on Toshiro's face in the darkness. His fingers rest on the top of your hand and he squeezes, gently.

A chill runs down your spine, your body jolting slightly. You weren't sure how you were going to go to bed, emotions running wild, but you were safe.

SAKATA GINTOKI HC: ORIGINS & PARENTAGE

Loosely based on the Kintarou myths & RL history:

For the longest time, Gintoki didn't know who his parents were until he had help from Hijikata in unearthing his origins

soon they discovered that Sakata Gintoki is the only son to Takasu Kaidounosuke & Takasu Yaehisa. That both of his parents were of the merchant class within Edo's old caste, a family of wood carvers who were originally from Kyoto

Gintoki's parents decided to move after a family quarrel with Yaehisa’s greedy & bitter older brother who was looked over by Yaehisa’s father to give the family business to Kaidounosuke when he married into the family

Not wanting anyone to inherit the family business & knowledge, the brother sent people to kill Gintoki's parents. While Kaidounosuke succeeded in defending his pregnant wife, he was killed by the hired help

Once Yaehisa escaped, she hid herself at Mount Ashigara

To avoid attention & capture, Yaehisa gave birth to Gintoki in the pools of Yuuhi Waterfall & died shortly after when the stress of being hunted, grief and childbirth caught up to her

unknown to Yaehisa, the source for Yuuhi Waterfall is an altana spring which is one of the main contributors to Gintoki's stronger than average physiology along with his father’s physique
