Music my favorite thing ever!!! <3
21 - favourite album
1 - which artist(s) have you listened to the most lately?
8 - an artist you think underrated
21. HMMMMMM it's really hard for me to say but if I had to be honest...
...it's Vices and Virtues by Panic! at the Disco
youtube
Listen I was a teenager in the 00s and I never got over my Panic phase, I have all their albums and there are very few songs I don't like, Vices and Virtues is my personal favorite album and I've listened to it so many times. My favorite tracks are actually Oh Glory and Stall Me which are bonus demo tracks off the extended release of the album, but Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met), Always You, Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind), The Calendar, and Trade Mistakes are all high up there.
Don't at me.
Runner up is probably Neon Trees' Pop Psychology. It released the year I moved from my hometown to where I live now and they were on tour and did a free concert here, literally just weeks after I had moved in, when I didn't know anyone or what I was doing. The show was great, but also the lead singer gave a big speech about how he'd recently come out as gay and everybody cheered and clapped, which was really the first time I had been in a crowd where that kind of declaration wouldn't get you booed (remember this was 2014 and I grew up in the deep south). For that reason the album is pretty near and dear to my heart.
youtube
Ok I've talked a lot about girl in red on this blog already so I'm going to switch it up and reveal myself for weeb trash AGAIN and say that since because I've been on a real Vocaloid kick (thanks to Project Sekai) and also because of Milgram (there's no time to explain Milgram), I've been listening to a lot of Deco*27.
youtube
youtube
CW: Murder
youtube
(I owe my life to the people doing the Shinonome + Fuuta remixes of this THANK YOU FOR COMBINING MY OBSESSIONS FOR ME)
8. Issadora Ava please
youtube
Also everyone on tumblr reblogs Sub-Radio's comedy covers but hey guys they actually have original music too and it's pretty good
youtube
Thanks for the ask! <3

1062.
Have you ever started reading a book and wondered if you’d read it before? >> IDK where on earth Lane got this survey from but it is long as balls and I’m taking it as a personal challenge at this point lmao. LET’S GOOO I’ve never had this experience, no. I don’t always remember the content of books I’ve read, but I at least remember the experience of reading them, I guess?
What has been bothering you a lot lately? >> Oof. I don’t know how to explain it here so it makes sense to the average reader, so I won’t bother making sense. I want Bruni to be a real, external entity, so badly, but if he’s not then I need to know. I need to know if I just created him, because I needed to, so I can come to terms with that and figure out what to do about it. I’ve also been bothered lately by just... my inability to form connections, to feel the way I’m supposed to feel about other people. Knowing why I’m like this (and knowing that it’s not some inherent flaw of mine but a direct result of not being emotionally taken care of when I should have been) only helps a little. I feel like there’s no way I’ll ever be able to fix this, and my only truly fulfilling relationships will be Inworld, forever. (I guess that’s better than nothing, though! At least Inworld exists.)
What (or who) have you been missing lately? >> ---
Are you trustworthy? >> I mean, I guess. I don’t know what anyone would be trusting me with.
Did your parents teach that white lies were ok? >> No, even a white lie would have gotten me punished.
Have you ever hallucinated? >> Yes.
Do you sleep with your door open or closed? >> Closed, to keep both the cat and noise out.
What flags do you have in your room, if any? >> None. Sparrow has a pretty neat gay flag on her wall and a regular gay flag on her lamp.
What (or who) is the best thing that ever happened to you? >> Hm.
What is the worst decision you ever made? >> *shrug*
Do you miss college? >> I’ve never been.
Have you ever called a teacher “mom”? >> No.
What is your favorite arcade game? >> In the Groove.
Do you feel neglected? >> Not now. But I sure do feel the ramifications of previous forms of neglect.
What school subject(s) are/were your best? >> ---
Are you allergic to grass? >> Nope.
Do you remember to water plants? >> Sometimes. I managed to kill a spider plant, though, so I’m kind of discouraged when it comes to plants. I’ll let that be Sparrow’s thing, I’m apparently unfit.
What season is your birthday in? >> Spring.
Name 3 creative people you know. >> ---
Name 3 YouTubers you aspire to be like. >> ---
What color was your first car? >> ---
What year did you graduate? >> 2004.
When was the last time you saw the person you currently have feelings for? >> ---
Have you ever been scammed? >> Nah.
Are you allergic to pollen? >> No.
What style of wedding dress do you like best? >> Sparrow’s was pretty neat.
Are you over your first love? >> ---
Do you talk on the phone a lot? >> I never talk on the phone.
Would you rather call or text? >> Obviously text.
Do you always answer your phone? >> What do you think?
When was the last time you went to a party? >> I guess January; the get-together after Elle’s wedding was pretty much a party.
What was the last thing you ate? >> Beans and rice.
What’s the last book you checked out from the library? >> I haven’t checked a book out in a while. I heard about a book recently and it wasn’t on Scribd so I decided to check Libby just on a whim (I’m used to the books I want to read never being available as ebooks in this library’s meager collection) and they had it. So I might check it out. I feel kind of anxious about doing it because my reading habits have been so erratic lately and I’m like “but what if I don’t read it fast enough?” which, like, you know, I just... renew it... but no one said anxiety had to be fuckin logical, you know.
Do you have a twitter? If so, what was the last thing you tweeted? >> No.
Who was the last person you talked to on the phone? >> ---
What’s the last thing you cooked on the stove? >> Eggs.

Do you ever use coloring books? >> I’ve done so, but I haven’t lately.
Are you planning on watching the Olympics? >> No.
Do you pronounce the word “often” with or without a “t” in the middle? Hmm. Now that I’ve said it to myself in a few different contexts, it seems I do both. If it’s a one-word answer, like in response to “how much do you get high?” then “often” has a t in it. If it comes in the middle of a sentence and is not the focus, it does not have one. < Yup.
Have you ever been on a trapeze? >> No.
Do you enjoy popping bubble wrap? >> Sometimes. I saved some from a recent package just in case I get the urge, lol. It’s on my desk right now.
Are there any waterfalls near where you live? >> I don’t think so. The landscape isn’t exactly varied here.
Do you like seafood? >> Yes.

If so, what did it look like? >> IDK, man, it was a long time ago.
Do you personally know anyone who is an author? >> No.
Do you own a Polaroid camera? >> No.
Do you enjoy baking? >> No.
What’s your favorite type of flower? >> Sunflowers.
Last time (if ever) you were on an airplane, where were you going? >> I was coming home from Houston.
Do you know anyone who is left-handed? >> Sure.
What is something you think is underrated? >> ---
Around what temperature do you consider it to be too hot outside? >> It’s not so much the temperature as the level of humidity, how sunny it is, what time of year it is, etc. There are multiple factors that go into how I experience temperature and the number on the thermometer is only one facet of that.
In what ways do you expect your life to be different one year from now? >> ---
How often do you travel outside of the state/province you live in? >> Not often. Before it was just because it’s expensive and also Sparrow would have to take off work and stuff, and now it’s because of those reasons and also the pandemic.

What has been your favorite job you’ve had so far? >> Selling merch for local bands at shows.

East? >> Long Island?
West? >> Colorado.
How often do you run the dishwasher? >> Every couple of days, when it works. (We’re waiting on Maintenance to come fix it, but of course they’re taking their sweet time.)
Do you wash your face at the sink or in the shower? >> I use micellar water, so I just do it in my room. Otherwise I’d do it in the shower because I hate using the sink for that.
Name a stereotype about your gender that you don’t fit. >> Are there agender stereotypes? I haven’t heard of any.
Name a stereotype about your age that you don’t fit. >> Uh... I don’t have kids? Idk.

Do you have any uncommon kitchen appliances, such as espresso machines, waffle irons, etc? >> We do have a waffle iron (Sparrow got one for her birthday). I’m not sure what other kind of appliances are uncommon. Are rice cookers uncommon? I can’t imagine why they would be, they’re so convenient. Unless you just don’t like rice...

Has either of their careers influenced what career you chose or want to pursue? >> ---
What is the highest level math class you’ve completed? >> Uh... pre-calculus? I don’t remember, man.

What room in your home do you spend the least amount of time in? >> I don’t really know. I was gonna say Sparrow’s room, and then I was gonna say the kitchen, and then I was gonna say the half-bath... I think the half-bath is probably the most reasonable answer?

Are you usually open to trying a new food that you aren’t familiar with? >> Yes.
Do you listen to Panic! At The Disco? >> Yes.

Is there a song you can’t stop listening to atm? >> No.
Has anyone ever told you that they loved you, and you couldn’t say it back? >> I guess that’s a way to put it.
If your Facebook status doesn’t get any likes/comments, does it bother you? >> ---
Which friend do you confide in most? >> ---
Do you wear a cross? >> There’s a small cross on my left earring. But I don’t wear, like, a religious cross.
What is your opinion on Arby’s? >> I’ve only had it once, and that was on the way back from Colorado that one time, when the Greyhound stopped at Arby’s. I don’t remember what the food was like, though. Not even sure why I remember that we stopped there at all.
When you have your own kitchen, how will it be done? >> I mean, this kitchen is “mine”? I don’t live with parents or anything, so...? But I don’t have a choice in how it looks or anything, I didn’t build it.
What is your favorite doughnut? >> Apple cider doughnuts, always.
Do you have a hot tub? If so, where is it located? >> No.

What is your favorite party game? >> ---
Do you or your parents rake your yard? >> ---
Were you pro-Obama? >> I didn’t have an opinion at the time, I was busy trying to survive.
What is your favorite scent from Bath & Body Works? >> ---
What was the last illegal thing you did? >> I don’t remember. Probably something like jaywalking. Or watching Bill & Ted Face the Music on an illegal streaming site.

When was the last time you wished time would move faster? >> I don’t know.
Are there any owls in your room (as decor, of course)? >> Nope.
Have you ever heard voices? >> Not... in that sense. Like obviously I hear the Inworlders’ voices, but... not quite the same thing, I’m guessing.
Do you believe in angels and demons? >> I have not encountered those kinds of angels and demons. I usually use those words as like... shortcut terms rather than references to the actual Christian concepts or whatever.

Did your Barbies go on dates? >> I don’t recall the specific nature of the social playacting I did with Barbies.

When you’re home alone, do you still shower with the bathroom door closed? >> No. I’ve also showered with the door open even when Sparrow was home, I just usually don’t because it’s not necessary (I just use my phone flashlight in that case so it’s not pitch dark and I don’t kill myself in there). But when I’m alone I just leave the door open for the ambient light. Why don’t I use the bathroom light? Because I have Problems and Disorders. Next question.
If you could have anyone’s singing voice, whose would you choose?  >> I like my own.

Music Shuffle Meme
inspired by @televinita because she looks like she’s having fun with it
1. I Want to Hold Your Hand (the Beatles) — this one was my favorite of their songs back in middle/high school when I first got into them. Nowadays, it’s probably a tie between In My Life and The Long and Winding Road, but I’m still fond of the ones I first listened to.
2. Sabotage (The Beastie Boys) — I’m not a huge Beastie Boys fan, but I do especially like this one. Maybe because it was used twice in the new Star Trek trilogy, which I’m very fond of.
3. Freeze Your Brain (Heathers, the Musical) — Took me a while to give the Heathers musical a chance and yes, it was Riverdale that finally made it happen. That episode was all kinds of a hot mess, but the music was great, autotune and all. This song wasn’t actually in the episode, but it should’ve been. Maybe instead of Dead Girl Walking because holy crap, that scene was even cringier than the rest. What a waste of a Toni solo.
4. Blitzkreig Bop (Ramones) — Despite the fact that I can’t understand 90% of the lyrics, this song is extremely catchy and I associate it with the feel-good summery vibe of Spiderman: Homecoming, which is still one of my favorite Marvel movies.
5. Ever Fallen in Love (with Someone You Shouldn’t’ve) (Buzzcocks) — I regularly forget that this banger was in Shrek 2 because I only recently heard it again in an episode of Speechless (fantastic underrated series, everyone go watch it) and now think of that whenever I hear it.
6. Addams Family Theme (The Addams Family Musical) — I gather that the general opinions on this show are really mixed and that a lot of people don’t like it. I have no idea why—I love it. It’s not the best musical adaptation out there, but I can’t not love Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth as Gomez and Morticia Addams. I can’t.
7. Now (It’s Just the Gas) (Little Shop of Horrors) — See: a fantastic musical adaptation that is very dear to my heart. It makes me eternally sad that, barring gender swaps and/or some major key changes, I could never play any of the leads in this show. I love this song in particular because I love listening to Seymour struggling with whether or not it would be morally right to help Orin or do nothing and let him die by his own hand. (God I hope the remake doesn’t happen)
8. Come Fly With Me (Frank Sinatra) — What can I say? I’m a simple woman. I hear any Sinatra song and I am filled with serotonin and a nostalgia for the 1940’s.
9. A Million Dreams (The Greatest Showman) — I treat this show the same way I treat Hamilton: I acknowledge that every historical figure is flawed and we should recognize the good and the bad, but I also have a weakness for beautiful men singing show tunes in period costumes. Sue me.
10. Death of a Bachelor (Panic! At the Disco) — A great song that’s all about putting down the “marriage is the end of a man’s life” trope. If/when I get married, this song is absolutely on the playlist.
Full disclosure: I did skip a few songs because I didn’t want repeats of artists or shows and for some reason, my iTunes library was really high on Addams Family and Little Shop today. So I fudged the shuffle a bit. Sorry.

TOP FIVE songs from this decade (I am so specific lol)
Oh gosh I am horrible at narrowing these things down! But I’ll give it a shot (also went for the last ten years, if you meant “decade” as in 2020s, sorry!) Not in any particular order, I just sort of picked songs that I have strong emotional attachments to from some of my favorite artists. Looking down this list, it’s probably obvious my millennial angst is showing, haha.
1. Those Nights - Bastille [x]
I struggled to pick one song from Bastille because they’ve become an intense favorite of mine over the last year, and I’ve been discovering their older music, too. This one sounds like it should be sad, but makes me feel so hopeful. It was the first song I heard off their album Doom Days, which is phenomenal as a whole.
2. This is Gospel - Panic! At the Disco / The Greatest - Sia
YES, both of them. They could both be on here in their own right, BUT there is an exquisite mash up of both of them right here [x]. This is Gospel was released the day after things exploded in my family, and it gave me so much catharsis/comfort. The next years that followed were a struggle for me, and I was coming to the final stretch of college when I first heard this mash up. Felt like the music was cheering me on <3.
3. The Kids Aren’t Alright - Fall Out Boy [x]
This aches of a sort of disillusionment and sadness that’s a hard habit to let go of. Helps to belt out a banger like this one from the best boys. This song just makes my heart swell.
4. A Million Dreams - The Greatest Showman Soundtrack [x]
Haha. Sort of cheesy. But this is probably what me and my partner consider our couple song. I prefer Pink’s version, so that’s what I linked here.
5. Let’s Hurt Tonight - OneRepublic [x]
I guess I go for the angsty ones. I love OneRepublic in general, but this song in particular is so cathartic and honest and emotional.
Honorable mentions: Lots from Lorde, The Weeknd, Marina, Nicki Minaj, etc., all of which I think are underrated tbh.
Ask me my top five anything

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. August, September, October, November, minutes, hours, tomorrow, yesterday
Okay! Here you go!
monday: do you struggle with the ‘boring’ parts of writing?
Oh God, so much, it’s probably the biggest reasons I never get fic done. Just, hnnnnnnng must get through to interesting parts.
wednesday: name a fic which you have posted which you think is underrated?
By Your Side. It’s an IiCamie fic so I understand why it doesn’t get a ton of traffic, but I think it turned out pretty good!!
friday: most self-indulgent fic you have ever posted?
God maybe Wisdom Teeth? I just loved the image of Shouji being a giant floppy high-as-a-kite octopus while his two bfs take care of him.
Then again, The Prince of Diamonds is also pretty indulgent. Just, 100% fluffy pale romance.
saturday: what gets you excited whilst writing?
Writing the really cool parts and thinking about showing them to other people. A lot of my motivation is how other people will react to my writing.
august: are any of your fics associated with certain genres/artists/songs/etc?
I have whole playlists for some of my works, especially the longer ones. Here’s one for the Feathers Series:
Fragile:
-Shake It Out (Florence and the Machine)
-Camisado (Panic! At the Disco) -Alone Together (Fall Out Boy) -I’m So Sorry (Imagine Dragons) -Lose My Life (Papercut Massacre) -No Light No Light (Florence and the Machine) -Out Alive (Kris Allen) -Happy (Marina and the Diamonds) -Battle Scars (Paradise Fears) -Everything’s Okay (Lenka)
Cherub:
-Professional Griefers (DeadMau5)
-Heroes (Alesso) -It’s not my Time (3 Doors Down) -Take My Hand (The Cab) -C'mon (Panic! At the Disco) -Anything I’m Not (Lenka) -Home (Phillip Phillips) -This is War (30 Seconds to Mars) -Hey Brother (Avicii) -All for One (The Stone Roses) -One of Us (New Politics)
september: share a comment or review which still warms your heart?
I have gotten SO MANY comments over the years that just blew up my heart I’m so thankful for everyone who leaves me comments.
Here’s one I have saved after a...particularly, eventful, chapter.
Tumblr media
It was a fun chapter. Here are some more than made me all happy inside:
”IM SOBBING TEARS OF JOY OH MY FUCKING FUCK
HOLY SHIT OKAY SO this is seriousky like??? one of my favorite things ive ever read because its just so fUN and its so cute and i love it som UCh. seriously im in love with this fic to the point of it hurting my poor heart to see it go,,, .AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa thank you so much for writing this i loved reading every single part of this and i want to WISH YOU GOOD LUCK in the future for whatever it is that you decide to write or create because im CERTAIN that if anything is as good as this?????? ?? ? ? ITS THE BEST and you js utguyrgisuerghileurjg im jutsrt im just at a loss of words cause i love this so much man hhhaha“-downtempoetic
“I'm sorry I never commented before but this series had me hooked for weeks and I'm now on my second read. I just really wanted to compliment the way you did the relationships, especially in part one, and how you never rushed anything and left it at a nice pace and subtlety. Rereading, I'm even more appreciative of Eridan's character arch, and I love how he's changed from when he first joined the gang to now, and how much he's had to go through. There is never a dull moment in the Feather's series, sending me through constant angst, humour, and tears, and I'm really happy you wrote and put so much dedication into it. Thank you! “ -Neverlastingforever “I honestly think I about burst a lung trying not to die laughing at 2 in the morning. Holy hell I love this so much thank you““-triedmybest
Also like, any comment that mentions they read it more than once. The concept that someone would read one of my works TWICE is super flattering to me.
october: name the darkest or angstiest fic you have written and/or posted?
Oof, hm.
I actually have a lot of fics that can get REALLY dark but I don’t post those >_>
For ones on my AO3, the Feathers series has some pretty dark stuff like suicide mentions, torture. Tales of the Seer and Knight had character death. Torn Feathers is probably my saddest, being an alternate timeline where Eridan dies.
november: do you have any rituals or requirements for getting in the mood for writing?
A hot drink is nice, and I usually have something running in the background, like a game or music.
minutes: how long does it normally take you to complete a fic?
That varies a lot. The longfics take me like a year or more, and even with the shortfics, it can range from like 20 minutes of frenzied writing to weeks or months to get the sentences down bit by bit.
hours: longest wip or completed fic?
My longest wordcount fic on AO3 is TECHNICALLY Semesters and Strife HOWEVER that’s because the extras are included all in one fic. I’d say my actual longest is A Cherub’s Feather, if the extras (under the fic Scattered Feathers) are included. Those, in addition, are part of the Feathers series as a whole. The Feather’s series as a whole is 205,495 words. This includes two longfics, a collection of extras that take place after the main story, and one alternate universe scenario that was requested.
Now that I think about it, there was another deleted scene that I posted on my tumblr, so, a lil more than that I guess.
tomorrow: favourite ways to write fluff?
Hnnnng SOFT
yesterday: favourite way to write angst?
HNNNNNG PAIN
PAIN FROM WATCHING THE SUFFERING OF LOVED ONES.

TOP 10 PANIC! AT THE DISCO SONGS as of 6 February 2019
10. Casual Affair - Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die (2013)
“Lay in the atmosphere”
Love the electronic elements in this song, it’s kind of a different sounding Panic song, but I really think it’s cool.
9. Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time - Death Of A Bachelor (2016)
“I’m not as think as you drunk I am”
There are a bunch of good songs on this album, but this song is one I always come back to.
8. Girls / Girls / Boys - Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die (2013)
“Love is not a choice”
Just an obvious choice.
7. That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed) - Pretty. Odd (2008)
“I never said I missed her when everybody kissed her, now I’m the only one to blame”
This song just puts me in such a great mood. Lots of little elements to appreciate.
6. Hurricane - Vices & Virtues (2011)
“I led the revolution in my bedroom and I set all the zippers free”
The way that Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith write lyrics like this and make them sound so pretty is why this is one of Panic’s best albums.
5. House Of Memories - Death Of A Bachelor (2016)
“Take my picture now, shake it til you see it, and when your fantasies become your legacy, promise me a place, in your house of memories”
This song has an interesting feel to it. I think it is one of the best new Panic songs, there is something about the pre-chorus that really hits me in a good way.
4. But It’s Better If You Do - A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005)
“Praying for love and paying in naivety”
Had to put this on there. The music video is everything.
3. Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met) - Vices & Virtues (2011)
“Ever since we met, I only shoot up with your perfume, it’s the only thing that makes me feel as good as you do”
What a great way to end an album. Vices & Virtues is my second favorite Panic album and that is partially because of this song. The amount of transitions this song goes through is amazing, it flows together beautifully.
2. Build God, Then We’ll Talk - A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005)
“There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses, it’s sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses”
Spent a good portion of my teen years perfecting the cadence of these words. Definitely listened to this Panic song probably more than any other.
1. There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet - A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005)
“Talk to the mirror, oh, choke back tears and keep telling yourself that ‘I’m a diva!’”
This is the song that I think of when you say Panic! At the Disco, no doubt about it. This album fueled my emo teen years, I remember playing this song specifically many times on my little SanDisk MP3 player. Performing all the words every time I hear it, I just think this is such an underrated Panic track, but I love it.

shay’s favorite albums of 2018
10. Hivemind by The Internet - TI are insanely underrated and definitely helped me remember how much I adore R&B music. I literally love the bass lines so much - I’ve learned about half of the ones off this record, honestly. Syd’s vocals are amazing as ever, seamless and sexy and gorgeous, and I just, I love R&B music so much, gotta get into more soul shit. Favorite track: Bravo.
9. Sweetener by Ariana Grande - Somehow Ari flew under my radar for years; I simply did not care about her, and rarely heard her music on the radio, let alone sought it out. But some friends succeeded in getting me into it, and now I respect her as a singer and a person. She’s been through hell, and I admire her strength. Not to mention she’s incredibly talented as a singer. I have a hard time with pop records, because of the lack of substance and depth, but this record is a look into a person I think we’d come to forget was a person at all; it’s all her feelings, her heart on her sleeve, and it’s awesome. Not to mention her voice is literally so damn pleasant to listen to, I could fall asleep to it, haha. Favorite track: Successful.
8. Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae - Miss Monae literally has so much going for her. She’s so immensely talented at everything, and after her success in the film industry, it was nice to witness her return to music. Dirty Computer is fun, personal, and reminds you that Janelle deserves a lot more attention and admiration as a musician, because she does some really innovative and unique stuff that is always something special to behold. She’s a damn good rapper, too, and the accompanying short film to this record was really cool. Favorite track: Screwed.
7. Pray for the Wicked by Panic! At The Disco - After being a fan for literal ages, I finally saw Panic this year, so that was pretty damn cool. Pretty much DoaB Part Two, but that’s not a bad thing. The music is fun, Brendon’s vocals are as awesome as ever, the production is smooth as hell, and the songs were a damn blast live. A little too uppity for me, but several of the songs have been on replay at times. Favorite track: One of the Drunks.
6. Trench by Twenty One Pilots - I have a love-hate relationship with 21p, and I’m not emo anymore, so I nearly didn’t even listen to this record, but I did, and I, grudgingly, liked it very much. It doesn’t deviate significantly from the sound of Blurryface, but incorporates a lot more bass in (which I appreciate, as a bassist). It’s also notable this album was lighter in tone, at least sonically. That’s nice. Had a bit of punk, in there, a New Wave sound, almost. Pretty interesting. And deep subject matter. I wish this band hadn’t been spoiled for me. Damn. Favorite track: Bandito.
5. Queen by Nicki Minaj - A truly fitting title. Nicki’s always exuded a majestic sort of power, a confidence, strength, and sexiness we all can admire, and she’s never faltered in that, but she’s definitely at her top form here.  Favorite track: Barbie Dreams. The Biggie-sampled beat makes an already awesome song even better. This is essentially Nicki’s Control; honest, biting, but also wonderfully comedic and light-hearted. I will literally never forget listening to this for the first time, absolutely awed at every rapper she managed to playfully go at, and how clever each sneak-diss was.
4. KOD by J. Cole - Cole’s been my favorite for years, and each of his recent albums have resonated with me deeply because of how genuine he comes across, even when he’s rapping about the typical things a rapper might rap about. Somehow Cole does it in a unique way and always makes it his own, so I never tire of the same topics. And he’s real, real as fuck; unapologetic and confident, but not assholish or excessively cocky. I really applaud him for that. Favorite track: 1985. Cole’s proudly embracing the fact that he’s not a youngin in the rap game anymore, and taking the role of a older figure, a wise one who advises his younger peers to reconsider their careers and their admittedly slim chances of remaining relevant. It’s brutally honest, harsh but not cruel, and absolutely admirable. Not the mention the beat is chill as fuck. Whole thing gives me goosebumps; easily one of the highlights of Cole’s career.
3. Kamikaze by Eminem - Okay, I’m a former hardcore stan who’s turned critical in recent years, but this record fully blew me away. Marsh got relevant again! With the dope flows! Damn! One of my favorite parts of this record was the reactions - watching people remember that Em is not one to be fucked with. Not to mention the now-iconic MGK beef. What a bunch of horseshit. Killshot totally roasted the dude, though. Favorite track: The Ringer. What a way to open a record! Holy shit. I re-listened to this one repeatedly because it was so unexpectedly incredible, with the way the flow is changed up frequently, and the wordplay never falters, clever as ever. Renewed a lot of people’s faith in Em’s abilities, I think; myself included.
2. Iridescence by Brockhampton - In last year’s post I said how excited I was for what the future had in store for BH; and boy, was this year a good one for them. On this record, despite the absence of Ameer, they hold their own without him; Matt, Joba, and Dom even seem to step up to the plate, in fact, and each member spits fire, so that the manic energy from the Saturation Trilogy remains. Said trilogy helped them establish their winning song-writing and production formula, and this record polishes it.  Favorite track: Weight. Absolute goosebumps. The whole track has an otherworldly energy, but the transition from Joba’s verse into Dom’s is especially visceral. Joba’s holds an enthusiastic nihilism of sorts, and optimistic perception of life’s pain, while Dom’s is deeply depressive and harrowing, his voice full of a hurt and his words holding a wisdom beyond his years. It’s a beautiful track, through and through.
1. Post Traumatic by Mike Shinoda - This album pretty much saved me this year. I’m very thankful to Mike for putting his feelings to music, because these tracks helped me sort out mine, and I connected to each individual song in a way I haven’t in a long time. I would actually kill to go to a show of his; it’d probably be somewhat of a spiritual thing for me, considering how deeply even the studio versions resonate. Favorite track: Hold It Together. I literally love every song on this album (except IOU...), and each is uniquely special, deeply personal, and beautifully resonates, but this one stands out for some reason. I think that breakdown towards the end adds a lot. Some other favorites are About You, Ghosts, Make It Up As I Go, and Running From My Shadow. And there’s not even words for Brooding.
honorable mentions
Expectations by Hayley Kiyoko - This one very nearly made my list, but Hivemind ending up dethroning it. It’s a great debut, full of gay bops that really kicked off 20gayteen well, I’d say. (Favorite track: Wanna Be Missed. Fun fact: My most listened song for all of 2018.)
Mania by Fall Out Boy - It’s unfortunate that my long-time favorite band didn’t make the list, but I just couldn’t get into the sound of this record. (Favorite track: Sunshine Riptide)
Bloom by Troye Sivan - He’s so big now! A big boy! I’m so proud of how far he’s come. I wasn’t as big on this album as I was on Blue Neighbourhood, but it’s still a solid sophomore record. (Favorite track: Dance to This)
Be the Cowboy by Mitski - Mitski’s sound is an aquired taste... I’m still not entirely in love with it, it’s so otherwordly in a jarring way? But I applaud her innovation. (Favorite track: Nobody)
extended plays
they’re too short to be included in my top albums, but i wanted to mention them anyway.
Lake Effect Kid by Fall Out Boy - The Chicago fuckers strike again! While the themes took away from the, uh, relatability, of the music, they’re still solid tracks that deviate from their earlier 2018 effort in a pleasant way. (Favorite track: Super Fade)
My Dear Melancholy by The Weeknd - Abel is one of my favorite musicians of all time (and was my most listened to for two years in a row) and he’d never disappoint me. MDM is sad, harrowing, and visceral, proof that Abel continues to be one of the best artists of this decade. (Favorite track: Call Out My Name)

I was tagged by @1830sromanticist, thank you!
Rules: tag 9 people with excellent taste (imo everybody I follow has excellent taste but yknow)
Colour(s) I’m currently wearing
grey pajama pants, a navy blue henley that’s way too big for me and my red plaid bathrobe. it’s only like 37 farenheit out there but I’m easily chilled
Last band T shirt I bought
I bought two at the same time, and those would be gorillaz and panic! at the disco. the emo phase never really ends if you believe in yourself.
Last band I saw live
d-does the cincinatti symphony orchestra count?
Last song I listened to
if you count compositions (not songs), it would be Philip Glass’ 5th string quartet, but if not, amonaemonesia by chairlift (highly reccomend by the way, chairlift is a wonderful band)
Lipstick or chapstick?
as I am someone who doesn’t enjoy making decisions, I use tinted chapstick most of the time and lipstick for special occasions with chapstick underneath.
Last movie I watched
finally got around to seeing thor: ragnarok! good movie, the humor was sometimes a little forced but I liked how the serious moments were juxtaposed with rediculousness
Last 3 TV shows I watched
I watch dr. quinn, medicine woman with my mom when I’m home, it’s a pretty good progressive show from the mid-late 80s about a woman in the 1800s practicing medicine on the frontier. I’ve also watched some of the office again, which is my favorite all time show probably, and then I tried to get into riverdale but it was too try hard and immature for me. no offense to anyone who enjoys it, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Last 3 characters I identified with
so this is a little cringey, but I’ll get this out of the way: I love the musical heathers, and I’ve always identified with JD. of course I’m not a murderer, but I do think that high schools are broken and terrible and that people could stand to get reminded of what matters, however perhaps in a less violent way than he thought necessary. I also identify with sherlock, just in general, because I’m kind of an odd antisocial person and I’m sometimes just a prick off in my own world thinking that everything revolves around what I’m doing and then I get slapped into reality by my wonderful friends when I’m being absolutely rediculous. I don’t think I’m inherently selfish, but I occasionally have a proclivity to be. that’s something to work on. anywho, the last character I identify with would be milo thatch from atlantis. it’s an EXTREMELY underrated movie in my opinion, and milo was part of what made it great. he wasn’t strong or physically talented particularly, but he had an incredible passion for what he did and was dedicated to his work, even if everyone thought he was a cultish nutcase. he fought tooth and nail to find atlantis and, when he got there, to preserve their beautiful culture and reconnect the citizens with their history.
Books I’m currently reading
unfortunately, I’ve been having trouble trying to find books to read for something other than school recently, but I’ll list my favorite books. I love war and peace by tolstoy, as well as hold still by nina lacour and looking for alaska by john green. the ender’s game series is also incredible, as well as the complete narnia series by C. S. lewis.
well, that seems to be it! I tag @imstill-lookingfor-alaska, @shosty-induced-migraine, @fluteytootandscream, @moz-arent, @secretstradivarius and anyone else who wants to do it!

Ten Songs Shuffle Challenge
Got tagged by @engineerasami. This is my first time doing this sort of tagging thing, so....time to give it a go.
RULES: PUT YOUR ITUNES/MP3/SPOTIFY ON SHUFFLE AND LIST THE FIRST 10 SONGS THEN TAG 10 PEOPLE (and tag whoever tagged you too!)
1.) What the Heck I gotta do from 21 Chump Street - I love this musical, and especially this song. Honestly, give me anything Lin Manuel-Miranda is involved in, and I’ll fall in love with it.
2.) Stall Me by Panic! at the Disco - Panic is one of my favorite bands, and this song is pretty rad. Personally, I feel it’s a bit underrated, but y’know.
3.) The Origin of Love by Mika - Ok, I just love this kind of music. It just reminds me of like, 70′s and 80′s music, and makes me feel so relaxed.
4.) Backstreet’s Back by Backstreet Boys - I’m sorry. I have a guilty pleasure for cheesy old boy bands like Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, etc.
5.) Upgrade from Be More Chill - I’ve been REALLY into BMC lately, and this song is probably my favorite. I love the Squip’s voice.
6.) I’m a Bitch, I’m a Lover by Meredith Brooks - I first heard this song when I was younger, so hearing it brings back memories. Plus, I can relate to some of the lyrics.
7.) Little Bird by Ed Sheeran - I love Ed Sheeran, and I especially love some of his older songs. This song is just so soft and comforting.
8.) Dammit Janet from Rocky Horror Picture Show - I’m not really a big fan of Rocky Horror, not really my type of music, but I really enjoy this song. It always makes me feel all shiny inside.
9.) Cliche Love Song by Basim - I heard this song on Eurovision in like...2012? It’s a bit cheesy and cringy. But it’s just so cheery that I couldn’t get it out of my head.
10.) We Are Number One from Lazytown - I have no good explanation for this, except that I’m meme trash and I actually kinda unironically enjoy this song.
Yeah. My music taste is a mix of old stuff, musicals, and things that were cool a decade ago.
So... I guess I tag: @therammiator @golden-freddy-fazebear-83 @awkwardpotats @jaime2472 @jellyfishtamer @zoyzauce @midnigtartist @nippaaah @enjolras-would-bang-that @thevirdirthara

angel, starlight, and velvet !! 😽😽
angel; favorite album of all time?
oh boy JHKDFASKJ you're in for a ride,
Probably The Division Bell by Pink Floyd, but they're my favorite band. I love all of their albums, but specially The Division Bell, The Wall, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Animals and Atom Heart Mother.
if you allow me, i'll make a recommendation list:
Amy Winehouse: Back To Black
Arctic Monkeys: AM and Favorite Worse Nightmare
Halestorm: Halestorm and Into The Wild Life
Highly Suspect: The Boy Who Died Wolf and Mister Asylum (!!!)
Hole: Celebrity Skin and Live Through This (!!!!)
Janis Joplin: Pearl (her work is all over the place, but i'd recommend you to listen to Kozmic Blues, it's my favorite song from her)
The Kooks: Inside in/Inside Out and Konk
Lana Del Rey: Born To Die and Ultraviolence (!!!!)
Laura Stevenson: Cocksure and Wheel (her music is amazing and too underrated for her talent. listen to Renee, The Wheel, Tom Sawyer/You Know Where To Find Me, Telluride and L-Dopa. L-Dopa is beautiful)
Led Zeppelin: Also, their work is all over the place. My favorite song of all time is theirs and it's called The Rain Song. it's beautiful.
Marina And The Diamonds: The Family Jewels, Electra Heart and Froot.
Muse: Black Holes And Revelations, The 2nd Law and Absolution (Absolutions is their best by far)
Nicole Dollanganger: Observatory Mansions and Natural Born Losers
Ninja Sex Party: EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH BECOMES GOLD. They're a comedy band with 3 original albums: NSFW, Strawberries And Cream and Attitude City, and 2 cover albums: Under The Covers and Under The Covers II. whenever i'm upset, i listen to their songs and instantly smile because they're so...... silly?? like idk it's just funny. also both members of the band, dan avidan (the lead singer a.k.a. danny sexbang) and brian wecht (the pianist a.k.a. ninja brian) work at game grumps, that gaming channel.
Oasis: Definitely Maybe, Dig Out Your Soul, Don't Believe The Truth and What's The Story Morning Glory (my favorite song from oasis is Morning Glory)
Panic! At The Disco: Death Of A Bachelor and Too Weird To Live, To Rare To Die
Pearl Jam: a bunch of their songs, no album specific
The Pretty Reckless: I LOVE THEM. Light Me Up is good, Going To Hell is better and Who You Selling For is THE BEST. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND I'VE SEEN THEM LIVE IN THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR I CRIED SO MUCH
Rage Against The Machine: again, a bunch of their songs, no album specific
Rush: i've listened to 2112 recently and WOW. it's surreal.
The Strokes: Room Of Fire, Is This It, First Impressions Of Earth, Angles and Comedown Machine (i love them so so so much)
Van Halen: Balance
bet you regret asking me about music right? aklsjfhkla sorry, i'm too enthusiastic about it to give a simple answer. i missed a bunch of things i also like, there are bands that i only like a couple of songs, so i didn't include them.
starlight;  have you ever written a love letter?
yes. a bunch.
velvet; do you enjoy horror films?
not too much. they're usually too trashy, and i get panic attacks with jumpscares, so........ ya lmao

favorite albums of 2016
I wrote this about a month ago and forgot to post it, but better late than never right?
This was a good year in the music world. At the beginning of the year I told myself I couldn’t just keep listening to the same few bands over and over like I had been. That was becoming no fun, no matter how much I liked those bands, I needed to branch out and discover more. I ended up discovering so many new artists (some just new to me). This year, I spent hours and hours and hours every single day just listening to music. This was also the year I got a job and could finally buy all the concert tickets I wanted, so that made the year pretty awesome.
Here’s a list of my favorite albums that came out in 2016 (in no particular order). enjoy.
1. Saintmotelevision-Saint Motel
This was their second full length album, the first was released in 2012, so this was a long time coming. They’re now signed to a real record label, where as before they were still an indie band. I was really looking forward to this one, especially since they released the My Type EP in 2014 which was amazing. They described this album as a continuation of the EP. I was not disappointed. It was everything I dreamed it would be. Literally all 10 (I know, it’s kinda short and that’s the only downside) of the tracks are amazing. Almost every track is upbeat. I would say only two or three are a little slower, so it’s a good mix. There is so much saxophone and trumpet on this album, which I love. Even though this list is in no particular order, I wanted to write about this one first because it’s honestly probably my favorite and I think it’s one of those that anyone will enjoy, no matter what kind of music you like. So if you end up not reading the rest of this post, at least you’ll see this one. It’s just happy, upbeat, and catchy. So I hope you check it out. And while you’re at it, go ahead and check out the rest of their music. Their first EP from 2009 is so underrated. I also write a long post about when I saw them live in concert back in October, aka the best day of my life. You can read that if you want by clicking here.
Favorite tracks: Born Again, Getaway, Destroyer, For Elise, Sweet Talk, Move, You Can Be You
2. Gameshow-Two Door Cinema Club
They came back from the dead! After a very long hiatus, Two Door Cinema Club magically came back alive and well. They released this awesome new album with an entire new sound. But in a good way! A lot of people say that all of their songs sound the same (from the first two albums) and I won’t deny it even though I love them. This album was definitely something different. It has this awesome almost 80s vibe to it. Still them though.
Favorite tracks: Are We Ready?, Bad Decisions, Gameshow, Ordinary, Fever, Lavender, Good Morning, Invincible, Surgery
3. 100-The Hunna
This was a band that I discovered this year and they’re fairly new. This is their first album and every song is a jam. It’s really easy to listen to and enjoy. Super nice guys and they also put on a great live show.
Favorite tracks: Bonfire, You and Me, She’s Casual, Brother, We Could Be, Piece by Piece
4. Death of a Bachelor-Panic! At the Disco
It’s so weird to think this came out in 2016, I always forget because it came out in January, so its been almost an entire year. This is their fifth album and it was honestly way better than the last one they released back in 2013. I love this band so much and this album was not a disappointment. I finally got to see them live this year and I’m lucky enough to see them again in April with Saint Motel! I can’t wait.
Favorite Tracks: Victorious, Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time, Emperor’s New Clothes, Death of a Bachelor, Crazy=Genius, Golden Days
5. High Times for Low Lives-The Griswolds
I’m really glad I started listening to this band for real this year. They had one album out and I had casually listened to some of the tracks early on this year and even before this year. I enjoyed them, but I kinda forgot about them, other than maybe two songs. Then I saw them on tour with Magic Man and they put on a killer show. I already got tickets to see them in February a couple days after my birthday and I’m super excited. The new album had a totally different vibe from their first album, Be Impressive. It almost has this R&B feel, some songs even remind me of Michael Jackson in a way? I know that sounds weird, but you gotta hear it to understand.
Favorite Tracks: Out of My Head, Role Models, Feels So Right, Rufio, High Times for Low Lives, I Want It All
6. Matter-St. Lucia
This is another one that was released at the beginning of the year so I tend to overlook it now. But this was such a fun album. Every time they released a single before the full album was finally released, I had it on repeat for days.
Favorite Tracks: Do You Remember, Dancing on Glass, Winds of Change, Help Me Run Away, Physical, Home
7. Love Gloom-Night Riots
I didn’t discover this band until the end of this year, but I’m really glad I did. They put on an amazing live show and the album is really good too. I have a bad habit of only listening to my favorite tracks, so I still need to give the other songs more listens. But I still wanted to include it on the list.
Favorite Tracks: Nothing Personal, Fangs, Contagious, Breaking Free, All For You
8. Home of the Strange-Young the Giant
This is one of those bands who I only knew a handful of songs from, but absolutely love those few songs I know. So when this came out, I finally told myself that I needed to spend more time listening to them. The album was awesome, the songs are so unique and sound like they were made for being played live. Thankfully I’ll get the chance to see them in March!
Favorite Tracks: Something to Believe In, Mr. Know It All, Jungle Youth, Silvertonge, Amerika, Home of the Strange
9. Wild World-Bastille
Ah yes, the long awaited second album from Bastille. We never thought we’d see the day. This kept getting pushed back I thought it would never actually be released. But it was worth the wait. First of all, its 19 songs long which is crazy. I wish every band put out an album that long! I can tell a lot of work was put into the album, each song is amazing.
Favorite Tracks: Good Grief, The Currents, Power, Snakes, Send them Off!, Blame, Way Beyond, Campus, Lethargy
10. Disappear Here-Bad Suns
This band was another late discovery and I know I’m so late to the Bad Suns game.. But better late than never! After listening to Night Riots, a couple of their songs reminded me of Cardiac Arrest, the only song I knew from this band. So when I was listening to it again, I saw they had released a new album and decided to give it a listen. The first track I played was Daft Pretty Boys and I immediately loved it and had it on repeat. I was so glad I finally started listening. The album is so fun.
Favorite Tracks: Daft Pretty Boys, Disappear Here, Heartbreaker, Violet, Patience, Even in my Dreams I Can’t Win
11. Phase-Jack Garratt
I was introduced to Jack Garratt when he opened up for Two Door Cinema Club in October. I didn’t look up his music before the show, so I had really no idea what to expect. He put on this crazy unique performance that made me go home and listen more. It was just him surrounded by a bunch of instruments, and he played them all. It was impressive. The album is different than most of the stuff on this list and it's really cool.
Favorite Tracks: Weathered, The Love You’re Given, Surprise Yourself, Worry, Breathe Life, Coalesce
