i am going to FIGHT indoor heating i just wanna wear one of my favorite sleep shirts to bed but it’s too HOT because it’s nice and long sleeved but instead i had to take it off because it’s too hot for all my blankets AND a shirt AND sweatpants ahhhhh screaming and crying

#i had the longest weekend on the planet #shitshow of a funeral with the most dysfunctional side of my family #and then my uncle never made it home and he's diabetic so we can't just wait for him to turn up again #i made a chain of logical leaps that felt right in the moment but are confusing even to me in hindsight #but with one phone call i found him in jail in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere and then drove two hours to bail him out #all this while I was badly sunburned on my period and covered in poison ivy blisters #did a kafkaesque little routine where every lobby we went into at the jail was empty and there was just a phone on the wall #and someone on the other end would say oh go into the next door down #and that would also be an empty dark room with a phone on the wall where they said to go one more door down #several times in a row #finally found an inhabited part of the building and talked to a sherriff while trying to hold all my arms and legs behind my back #to hide the horrible yellow crusty blisters all over my skin. look like an actual plague victim. feel worse. #keeping it together because i am Handling The Situation #my uncle was so happy to see us he cried #he'd been trying to call for help all day but the jail phone was showing up as Scam Call on everyone's cell #I was hailed by the family as Brilliant Detective: Finder and Rescuer #I went home and laid very still for many hours #anyway in between crises I got to spend a few hours at the beach and that was nice.

#ohranger lb #super sentai lb #umbrella.thoughts #umbrella.posts #that's a wrap everybody!! #so have some screencaps i took throughout watching #i think it was nice but not the best #i think that once the blocker robos were introduced we lost sight #like a ton of things would randomly happen like in the end there's no build up to bara micron the empire just has the ability to make this #machine and then they can also make demon dimensions??? #even earlier on the emperor landed on another planet and survived but only his head but he had a whole lab??? #riki never really becomes more than a guardian of dorin and i think they could have done a lot with lore when riki and dorin were introduce #but instead they kinda just pop in from time to time and dorin just can summon the crystal and save the ohrangers #machines don't sleep and then the baby needs to take a nap??? #the emperor was the only one that survived all those years ago but other machines are recognized from the same time??? #i didn't mind the tone change but i think they could have made it less dark without sacrificing the story #there was just a lot that didn't need to be there or stuff that took too much time #there was so many robots and half of them are rushed into the story like they were made bc miura knew they'd need them but how??? #i would have liked to know more about the characters too #i think we had really interesting development in the beginning but eventually we were trying so hard to raise the stakes that the ohrangers #became standard characters where i think they could've been iconic #i don't mind not knowing everything but seeing little bits of bonding between the members isn't enough for me to love the team completely #this is getting really long so in short it think it was a strong start but fumbled after the blocker robos were introduced the show had #potential and quite a few really good episodes with interesting themes #so yeah i thought it was fun and i like the team but overall it's not too high on the list

As a fellow fiber crafter (I crotchet), how do you make your 4 in minis? And are you free handing them or altering a preexisting pattern? They look lovely btw.

Well, I started with a pre-existing pattern, and I've altered and freehanded bits and pieces as I went.

The source of the pattern is actually a book of knit animal patterns! I got really, really into knitting tiny animals several years back, and ended up getting multiple installments in the series. The one I've been referencing most for this is "Mini Knitted Farmyard" by Sachiyo Ishii. It's got the base pattern for the person, which I've altered as I liked, as well as for boots, vest, hats, and more. I've been combining these and altering them to best suit the character in question.

Other stuff, though. . . the Octokittens, I combined a pattern off of Ravelry and one for mini octopuses from the same series (different book). The raccoon was also a pattern from that author (again from a different book). Raph's wings came from a fairy pattern in the series, and so on. Different stuff like that!

And then your first question: most of the dolls are entirely knit, with a bit of embroidery to bring them together. There's been a few that have crochet bits (like Jonny's belts, the design on Raph's wings, or Michael's fingers).

#random thoughts #there'd be at least one episode where the car or space ship or whatever gets stolen and I'm like getting pampered by space pirates or sm #or i got off the ship at the last minute so the mcs panic for nothing #like i got off to go to the bathroom at a space gas station #im not even a main character i dont talk much im just there #the humantity and ethics of this are brought up on many occasions #only for the mcs to go 'no he likes this it's fine' #because like come on im fed i get decent sleep i get to explore the galaxy and i dont have to do shit #there's at least one episode where someone steals me on purpose and it's like a mission impossible escape mission #I'm in like a prison cell or something while my kidnapper transports me to a rehabilitation planet or something #i had a nice bedroom but i got put in the cell because i kept trying to escape #they're convinced i have stockholm syndrome and im like 'stockholm syndrome doesn't exist' #but like nonverbally because in this scenario i do not talk #and at the end of the episode when i escape and the mcs learn what happened #one of them is like 'but stockholm syndrome isn't a real thing though' #and im like '!!! THANK YOU EXACTLY' #like i really want to emphasize how little i do on this ship #i can leave at any time!!! i just don't!!!

I'm really glad I decided to finish Exordia this morning because it did lead to just about 7 hours of writing (+lunch break and dog walk) so that I was able to do a short story front to back ~3300 words.

Feels like a bit W because the last short I did was October, which is still much more recent than the one before it had been (though I've had a few abortive attempts at getting past the first 20k of a book in there)

I spent a lot of the winter depressed and struggling to find the joy in doing something for it's own sake, so I've been trying to really push myself toward the parts of writing that have me looking back on my own writing fondly. Because even without plans for publishing stuff there is so much of my writing that I think my life is better for having written

I feel very good about what I wrote today, so hopefully I'll keep doing this small stuff

I'll say an especial shout-out to the Penric novellas, the cemeteries of amalo books, and Exordia for really making me feel that extra fondness for books and writing lately

#the benefit too of writing the story for it's own sake means i haven't been overly critical #its based around some scifi conceit that ive legit forgotten the name of and refused to stop to google #(or not conceit? paradox? idk) #that's like. anyone who sets out now to colonize a planet or something #is more likely to be beaten there by people who come later with better technology #so it kinda starts out as this person on a rather suicidal surveying mission #getting depressed as all fuck because the one thing she hoped might mean #has been colonized for 1000 years and is just sort of politely integrating her with like futuristic ass translators and stuff #so shes like wow not only does this suck but my translator wont even translate when i swear. i feel more isolated from humanity than ever #but also? that it's nice because the fact that nothing about her makes sense to everyone else is a common connection #she's not worried about if people thinks she's strange because she IS. it's her defining feature #so she decides it's not too bad even if she's out of place. but she would like to learn the language do she can swear #the only person who can help is a linguist #and oh there's all this silliness where people will be making a joke she doesnt know how to translate #“well this is your world after all” #because shes afraid they're making fun of her for being so late to it #but as she learns from the linguist many moons later #who is constantly affectionately/jokingly calling her “my eo #*my world“ #she snaps is demands like you HAVE to tell me what that means. why do you say that. it is hurtful #BUT then shes like girl. read an atlas. and she reads it. and the world is named after her #i think i managed to thread the needle of being both morbidly depressing AND saccharine take on struggling to feel you belong/can #relate to other people #which shockingly something on my mind

I've received asks on the topic a few times so I think I'd like to address the subject as clearly as I can

Okay, so like. You're on vacation, right? And you decide you want to go swimming. And you could go to a pool, or a lake, or the ocean, or the river. Wherever you want. And you see on the map that there's this one place called The Alligator Hole.

So you go there, and there's a sign on the shore that says "WARNING: ALLIGATORS", right? And you decide to go in. And when you get there, there's alligators. So you get out!

But then you go back in, with a stick, and you start hitting the alligators.

Because you don't want alligators where you're swimming!

And the impulse is understandable, because lots of people don't like swimming with alligators. Alligators are scary. Being in the water with alligators can be very stressful and damaging for people who aren't prepared to deal with alligators.

But at the same time, you must understand- there will probably always *be* alligators. Hitting a few with a stick probably won't eradicate them from the planet. There are SO MANY alligators! All over the world! And the vast majority of them will never ever hurt any swimmers!

And at the end of the day, nobody pushed you into The Alligator Hole, right? You saw a place literally called The Alligator Hole and decided that you wanted to go in there, and then you made life miserable for all the alligators.

Sure, there are places you like to swim where alligators probably shouldn't be- like suddenly, in your bathtub, uninvited and unwelcome, in the middle of the night- but alligators have to go *somewhere*, you know?

So if there are going to be alligators, no matter what, and we don't want to be surprised by them, then isn't it nice that we have places like The Alligator Hole
