THUS SAYS THE GOD OF JUDGMENT - "I shall strike this world for its iniquity!"

"Thus says The Lord God of Israel: Who are these who betray Me and turn against My servants, who seek to devour My prophets and attack My faithful servants? As a lion, they seek out My servants and attack them as the prey; as a starving lion, they turn on those sent to them! In their fierce hunger, they seek to devour their own, for they are in great famine. Who are all these who have despised Me, whose indignation is risen up against My servants without cause? Behold, each one seeks to devour his own brother and steal from his own Father! They do greatly dishonor their Father and lift up their hand to destroy their brother! They trample upon their neighbor and slander their close friend!

In this time of famine their hearts have hardened, And in them a heart like a beast has taken form!...

Yea, they are not alone, wickedness dwells there!...

And like a beast in the wilderness who is Without inhibition, as one who has no master, They lash out without thought or consideration!

Behold, they stalk their prey and attack their neighbor without cause! They bear false witness against their neighbor and slander their own brother; they seek justice without cause! Therefore shall MY justice be swift, MY judgment shall fall hard upon them, for I am come out! Behold, I am come down to make of them a great slaughter! For The God of Heaven, The Lord over all the earth, shall punish them! I shall strike this world for its iniquity, severely oppressing every inhabitant in My judgment! The whole world shall be struck in My fierce indignation! Says The Lord. For the wicked gather like locusts, and their sin spreads forth like a swarm, devouring and polluting the land! Therefore their pain shall be great, and their affliction intolerable! And who will be able to endure it?! Behold, their distress shall surpass Egypt as in the days of Moses, when I severely afflicted them! They shall choke in their affliction, they shall gasp for air in their distress, until darkness comes to claim them!

The Book of Job Chapter 10

You made me to break me

Now, I don't want to be too self-referential in these posts. This is the Book of Job after all and it is one of the most misunderstood books in the world literature canon, so adding my own personal anecdotes makes things feel amateurish. The college professor who always marked me down for my papers on Horace's Odes because I always included personal stuff haunts me to this day. Especially when I agree with him to a certain extent. Or more accurately I agreed with him wholeheartedly when I tried to listen to a Sarah Vowell book about the pilgrims and learned absolutely nothing about the pilgrims but learned a great deal about Sarah Vowell, way more than i ever wanted to know about Sarah Vowell.

But the line from this second part of Job's response to his friend that is now a response to G-d that goes "Does it benefit you to defraud , to despise the toil of your hands, while smiling on the counsel of the wicked?" (verse 3) that gets to me this week because I was again in the crosshairs of the Facebook AI. Apparently Facebook has fired most of its standards people (including the one friend that I had who worked at Facebook) so my week long ban stuck.

And the weeklong ban was for a meme that gets shared all over Facebook, especially on the Ides of March - the one that goes "Whoever made September, October and November the 9th, 10th and 11th month should be stabbed." Because it promotes violence. Against Julius Fucking Caesar. And again, I'd be ok with that if this was a fucking sensible rule but it's not. How do I know it's not? Because I repeatedly make complaints against Nazis, conspiracy theorists, racists and transphobes on Facebook and then get the gaslighting "this isn't against Facebook standards"

Yes, G-d is arbitrary and shitty and lets the wicked prosper and the virtuous suffer. I expect better from Facebook standards. If other media companies can cancel Andrew Taint while G-d takes his only sweet time with that tumor, you'd think that Facebook would deal with the shitbags. But yeah, Facebook was complicit in the Myanmar genocide.

So what's the rest of this chapter. It's still pretty dark but it's also one of the ultimate "fuck you G-d" chapters where Job talks about being created and risen up just so he can get smashed. And he's actually asking why G-d would make this a thing. Job knows that he's innocent (and as a reader, we know that Job is innocent. Thank you, Satan). Yet, does Job's innocence help him? No.

And then we end with another "if only I was never born" verse. I just wonder if we would hear this verse a lot more if the anti-forced birth movement was full of religious fanatics and the forced birth assholes did not selectively quote the Bible.

Lift Your hand, and don't forget the oppressed. 13Why should the wicked despise God and think that you won't punish? 14See for Yourself the trouble and look at the grief, so You can take it in hand. The victim entrusts himself to You, for You are the One who helps the orphan. 15Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; punish his wickedness until it is gone. We often have trouble praying imprecatory psalms because they call down God's wrath on people. Jesus apparently didn't have trouble praying them as he inspired the psalmist to write them down. They are his prayers. He prays them to this day, interceding for us in the ear of the Father at the right hand of God. The thing is when we pray such things, we leave it in the hands of the LORD who judges men's hearts and judges them righteously. On top of that, behind wicked doers are the evil spirits of the air, the forces of darkness that inspire men's wickedness. I contend it is these forces we are praying against when we pray these prayers. The LORD has more than one day to do away with evil doers. Perhaps He will kill them in a spiritual sense, that is bring them to repentance. If they die in baptism, isn't that the same? I think so. So we cry out to the LORD God to come and lift up His hand against our enemies. We may sometimes feel as if God does not see the troubles we have on account of other people. I know I can identify with the psalmist here asking God why does He let the wicked despise Him and think He won't punish them. I tell our Father, “Just look at what these people are doing, the trouble and grief they are causing!” We must entrust ourselves to the LORD to take it in hand. Vengeance doesn't belong to us. It belongs to the LORD. The LORD is the one who helps the orphan. Who is the orphan but our LORD Jesus Christ who entrusted himself to the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane. He trusted himself into the Father's hand even at the point of death, death on a cross. We too should entrust ourselves and our whole lives and everything in them to God our Father. 16The LORD is King forever. The heathen must perish from His land. 17O LORD, You hear the desire of the oppressed. Encourage them and listen to them. 18Give the orphan and the oppressed fair treatment so that no one on earth will terrify them again. Our LORD Jesus Christ is King forever. He sits at the right hand of God. He will cause all the heathen to perish from the land, from the world. He gets rid of them either by conversion of the heart or by the Lake of Fire, by hook or crook. We need not fear they get away with anything. As those who have been redeemed from what we deserve, we pray for our enemies' conversion, to be our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are encouraged by the psalmist the LORD does hear the desire of the oppressed. So we call upon the LORD to encourage them and to listen to them. We need to know, God hears our cries. He heard the voice of Jesus from the cross as he appealed to the Father. In him, the Father hears your voice a well. We need not act rashly like those who go about rioting because of injustice. The LORD will give the orphan and the oppressed fair treatment so the people of the earth are never terrified again by them. Our Father in heaven will make certain justice is achieved. Merciful God and Father, hear our voice when we cry unto you. In Christ Jesus give us justice and deliver us from all our foes. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

YIKES. DAMN. Okay, kind of a cop out, but neither! Neither one of them had fulfilling arcs that would have made me okay with them dying, and neither one of them would have had a death that would have made narrative sense.

Steddie has had my brain in a chokehold since July, but honorable mentions to Ronance and Buckingham for non-canon ships, and my favorite canon ones are Jancy (bring back s2 Jonathan so help me god) and Lumax (they have my entire heart.)
