On the bookshelf of Professor Gadlings wall, between the works of the great recorders of history, from Ovid to Sima Qian to Bede. Stands a bust of the muse Clio, Goddess of history. A source of motivation. In turn, the muse watches as he bestows knowledge of years past on his young disciples like no other. How he inspires and ignites the passion of history in new minds. And selects her latest protege. He is her high priest, his office, her temple.
But she discovers her chosen has another house of worship. Swathed in poppies. Bedecked in dreamscapes. And at its heart, behind the Altar, betwixt the whiskys and the wines is the golden head of her ex brother in law.
A war of, 'Mine!' commenses.
Hob getting ever more curious why whenever him and Dream get it on in his office, Dream either turns his bust of Clio to face the wall, or just spends the whole time smirking at it.
Hob trying to bring a miniature statue of Clio back to his wee flat above the New Inn for his work desk. And continually finding it outside in the parking lot by the recycling bin.
Hob putting a little vase of freshly plucked poppies in his office window. Just to have them wilt within an hour. Every damn time.
Hob putting up a few historical dipictions alongside his personal collection of dream inspired artworks in the pubs dining area. Yet they always seem to meet with some misfortune.
Hobs office radio gets stuck on a perpetual loop of dream related tracks.
Hobs Pub TV in the New Inn refusing to show anything but BBC historical docu-dramas.
Two temples, two 'gods'. There's only one way to settle this...FIGHT!

myth: the nine muses
in ancient greek religion and mythology, the muses are the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts. they were considered the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, lyric songs, and myths that were related orally for centuries in ancient greek culture.

“The Mousai are always dancing, and the goddesses love to busy themselves with songs and strings. But when they see Apollon beginning to lead the dance, they put their heart into their singing even more than before and send down from Helikon an all-harmonious sound.”

The Muses being visibly bigger than Apollo (even if it is slightly) is delightful to me

Yes I know these painters probably didn't care too much about anatomy but this is funny regardless

Girl, same. I also don't like the myth about adonis. Depending the version you prefer he is either killed by Apollo, Ares and Artemis. I like to think the three of them team up to kill adonis. Aside from Aphrodite blinding his son Erymanthus, Apollo also care about his muses (Clio and Calliope). As for Ares, while I like to think he doesn't mind aphrodite having other lovers, he is getting tired hearing of her drama about adonis. Artemis want revenge on aphrodite for killing her devoted follower Hippolytus (from what I searched he is the child of either hippolyta or antiope - the amazon daughters of ares. So he is ares grandchild) and maybe revenge for Erinoma as well. So they send out a boar to kill adonis.
And good riddance for that. Adonis is nothing but trouble lol

Some altar updates! I added some extra prayer cards I have to Apollo and Artemis’s altars as small art prints. I buy these prayer cards from an Etsy seller who is very generous and includes extras! I also added Clio to my altar space, she shares one of Apollo’s altars, which is fitting considering his relationship to the Muses. I purchased a print of her and moved the scroll to be near the print.

Suppose Clio, Muse of History, decided to pay Hob a visit.
He’s a teacher, and assuming he teaches at the University level, likely is required or at least expected to research, write, and get published (in the US, academia’s motto is “publish or perish”). Clio could inspire him by guiding him to other publications that support his perspective. Basically, a supernatural research partner.
Then I thought “What would Dream think of this?”and went straight to the Jealousy angle. I’m assuming physical intimacy is not REQUIRED for a muse to share her gifts, but is an option.
Clio assures Dream that she’s not trying to take over his temple (the New Inn), but confirms what Dream suspects: that she intends to make Hob’s bed her alter.
Cue Dream starting his own campaign of seduction because he DOES. NOT. SHARE.
Meanwhile, Hob’s just trying to get this damn article down to 12,000 words and Dream being a very effective distraction is not helping.
