The historical instrument which i know as a "rumsterstang" (rummaging stick), is also widely known as a "krigsdjævel" (war devil) or "teufel geige" (devil's fiddle).

I'm sure you can figure out what I have to do now:

Make a best selling YA fantasy series which prominently features "war devils" as set dressing, while only describing in the vaguest sense what the instrument looks and sounds like.

Then wait a few years, while Americans inability to google stuff leads to people imagining all sorts of edgy violins with bells on one end, while trying to create approximations of what they sound like by audio crunching violin and bass samples.

Only for the movie to come out and teveal that all along they look like this:
