RIP Wolfgang Petersen (1941-2022) - German director best associated with many Hollywood action hits such as In the Line of Fire (1993), Outbreak (1995), Air Force One (1997) and Troy (2004), and the classical WWII U-boat movie Das Boot (1981) has died on the 12th but news broke out today. Although not necesarily part of the New Wave of Germany cinema as the likes of Herzog, Wenders and Fassbinder, Petersen's career started in the late 1960's as well, beginning with One or the Other of Us (1974), then movie with the gay drama The Consequence (1977) where he began his partnership with actor Jurgen Prochnow. But with the release of Das Boot that he started to get noticed, with the movie's massive sucess around the world, earning several Oscar nominations (two for Petersen as Best DIrector and Best Screenplay). The NeverEnding Story (1984) was also a big hit and of which landed his first Hollywood film, the sci-fi Enemy Mine (1985). Other credits includes: Shattered (1991), The Perfect Storm (2000), Poseidon (2006) and Four Against the Bank (2016), his final movie and his first in Germany after three decades in Hollywood.

I just love it when video games let you do really stupid shit that kills you immediately. I love being like "oh this is a terrible idea" and being able to do it and then die. It's good game design.
