My favorite Korean summer movie of 2022, Alienoid, was a brilliant blast of sci-fi and time travel and the many facets of Kim Woo Bin, Ryu Joon Yeol, and Kim Tae Ri. It left me wanting more, so while I’m *very* patiently waiting for the sequel to appear, I’ll be keeping myself entertained with other dramas to fill the void. I don’t know if you watch kdramas or not but there’s this really cute kdrama called Terius Behind Me(2018)/My Secret Terrius and it’s so retired Ghost coded with a few changes of course. But anyways just imagine retired spec ops ghost ending up as an unlikely babysitter(and future stepdad) for his next door neighbor’s kids, who’s also a single mom and unintentionally involved in a conspiracy because of her dead husband.

WAIT A DAMN MINUTE. I DON'T WATCH K DRAMAS. BUT THIS REMINDS ME OF:

5 K-drama supporting actresses who deserve more love

The title speaks for itself. "No small roles, only small actors" they say. Here are some of my favorite actresses known for playing supporting / guest roles and where you might have seen them. List created in no particular order. Gifs not mine!

Potential spoilers for the following series: Extraordinary Attorney Woo; Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha; and Hotel Del Luna.

Lee Bong-ryun

I was inspired to write this post because of her recent stint as feminist-activist Attorney Ryu in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (ep. 12), but I first noticed her in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, where she plays the warm but no-nonsense zone chief Yeo Hwa Jeong.

Other incredible work can be seen in Sweet Home (her eerie-vibe in the trailer alone was enough to make me give it a shot) and Run On.

Yeom Hye-ran

With her recent Best Supporting Actress win at this year's Baeksang Awards for The Uncanny Counter, offers should be pouring in for Yeom Hye-ran. I'm not even surprised anymore when I see her in a show since she can fit in practically anywhere. From the annoying aunt in Goblin and the battered wife in Dear My Friends, to the ruler of the underworld in Mystic Pop-Up bar and the superpowered healer from The Uncanny Counter, she definitely has the range.

Jin Kyung

I always mix up Jin Kyung with Lee El (whom I also love) because they carry a certain elegance and mystery that make them stand out no matter how little screen time they have. Currently featured as Tae Su-mi in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, she has been effective in making viewers speculate, sympathize, admire, and dislike her with the brief appearances she has made.

I've also enjoyed her work in Melancholia as Noh Jung-ah, Dr. Romantic as Nurse Oh Myung-shim, and Pinocchio as Song Cha-ok.

Seo Yi-sook

I paid more attention to Hotel Del Luna because I was constantly on the lookout for the next Mago shin sister. She plays six of them in this drama and they are so distinct from each other that you may forget they're played by the same person. Due to her charisma, gravelly voice, and amazing diction, she often gets cast as the CEO's antagonistic wife or a competent authority figure whom you're not too sure whose side she's on. Whatever it may be, she always makes it count. One hell of a singing voice too (watch her sing on JTBC's Hot Singers).

Cha Chung-hwa

Known to many fans as Court Lady Choi in Mr. Queen and one of the North Korean ahjummas in Crash Landing On You, I've come to appreciate not only Cha Chung-hwa's comedic timing but also her immense talent in subtle dramatic acting. While I initially wasn't the biggest fan of Nam-suk the town gossip in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, I was impressed by her heartfelt portrayal of a grieving mother who uses gossip and humor as therapy. Other wonderful roles and guest appearances include: Hospital Playlist 2; Hotel Del Luna; and On the Verge of Insanity.

Comparable to: My Secret Hotel (kdrama) ; Healer (kdrama) ; Terius Behind Me (kdrama)

This was a fun filled romcom that sort of fizzled out towards the end. It still was not a bad watch all the way through either, it’s just the first handful of episodes was the highlight of the drama. It got very bogged down by going back and forth with the flashbacks. I also was gutted with having the female lead having two love interests that seemed both perfect for her, (slight spoiler) especially with Im Joo Hwan who brilliantly played the second male lead in this. Love Eric Mun too just, ugh, the love triangle was way too much in this one.

I'm suddenly in the mood for a Healer-esque romance/action sort of drama, got any good suggestions? For the life of me I can't find anything that lives up to Healer. I might rewatch Terius Behind Me again.

Healer is soooo good it's really hard to compete. Terrius Behind me is one of my faves so it's an excellent choice imo.

City Hunter is as close to Healer as you can get and it's a classic!

The romance isn't nearly as good, but Park Min Young IS in it and it does have the super hero lead fighting corruption. The kiss is great tho he's not a soft boy which is frustating for me personally. The fight choreo is fun and I mean the HAIR is of the time lol. I feel like City Hunter and Healer are those dramas where, you like the one you saw first the best. Lee Min Ho HWAITING!!

10.) That scene in At A Distance Spring Is Green where Yeo Jun is being beat by his asshole of a father and Jun Wan storms in. He is so pretty when he’s angry. Like— dear god what a pretty man to begin with and then also being furious. Woo

9.) Kim Mi-Kyung I lover her. There is no one else. I will watch every drama and movie that she is in. I would give her my liver if she even thought about needing it.

8.) Ok Taecyeon and his ears. I love his ears. Especially when he's being evil. Evil ears. Murder Ears. Adorable ears.

7.) Park Min Young another woman I would sell my soul for. Every drama she’s in is amazing and she always has great chemistry with her counter part. She’s gorgeous and adorable. The most versatile actress. Like just look at her face.

6.) The shower scene in The K2. Not to be horny on main but jesus fucking christ. A buck naked ji chang wook absolutley destroying other naked men in combat whilst being caviliar about it.

5.) So Ji Sub when he's wearing hoodies and layers. Man just looks cozy and comfortable. Like top tier in a suit but that man can dress down real well.

4.) How Ji Sung can go from soft boy to rough angry boy about to do a murder. Chef's kiss. Top drawer.

3.) Kim Young Kwan in flannel. Like— the writers of Sweet Stranger and Me knew exactly what I wanted and gave it to me. I’m a sucker for a man in flannel though. It’s the lesbian in me.

2.) Since I’ve mentioned both leads in this post I’m going to have to talk about Healer. Best kdrama. Hands down. Period. Everything about it from the plot, to the characters, to the pacing— incredible. If you haven’t watched it— what are you doing with your life?

1.) That scene in Page Turner where Ji Soo goes from laughter to crying because he is a sad sad boy and an excellent actor. Also— that wink he does in Doctors. It was adorable and so is he.
