obviously it's only been a week (barely) but one of my favorite qualities of my new coworkers is that everyone seems to restate things in meetings. I've only sat in a handful of them at this point, but invariably there's someone who pipes up and says, "So to summarize, [restate conclusion, or finding, or high level description of next steps.] Is that correct?"

and this is likely a side effect of working for an international company (not everyone's first language is English, it takes a little more time to get on the same page) but I adore it, I think so many issues at my old job might have been prevented if someone had been willing to come out and say "so what you're telling us is xyz, true or not true?"

#I also think it's a very corporate approach vs. what I'm used to which is...less corporate #anyway I'm tentatively jazzed? I think this place has just as many interpersonal issues as the last place #but I know so much more now (about the law in practice; about myself and how I work and who I get along with)#than I did when I joined my previous company #not to mention that my new boss referred to me as a 'find' to the HR person who did initially find me #so I'm tentatively jazzed.#no wonder the company has to secretly manipulate you

Julian had set it all up months ago. Sisko had been more than unsupportive, and it had turned into a fight which he assumed Garak had noticed, since he'd been so incredibly sweet about soothing him every time he came back to Garak's quarters, all wound up and frustrated by the difficulties xenophobia, politics, and cultural misunderstandings had added to the process. He'd used the services of two different lawyers and made sure everything was airtight. But for all his assumptions about Garak knowing what he was doing, he hadn't ever said a word to him about it. Somehow, that would have felt like more of a declaration than filing the documentation was.

And it hadn't come up, until now.

But now... It couldn't be more obvious that Julian has granted him and subsequently ensured protection of every right that the Federation might give to a spouse. He's lying unconscious, tended to mostly by his Bajoran staff, all of whom look absolutely furious about being forced to allow Garak's presence and to consult him about decisions. Does he want them to try to wake Julian up? His liver took heavy damage and isn't healing well--should they attempt further biological intervention, replace it with a synthetic organ, or wait? It's left up to Garak whether family should be contacted and when. It's Garak who is granted entry into his quarters to take care of any plants or pets he might have (though there aren't any) and who's allowed to stay with him in sick bay past visiting hours. it's Garak who Sisko seeks out to explain the accident and apologize for the bad news.

And it's Garak that Julian calls out for as soon as he finally wakes enough to do so, though the name is garbled by his dry throat and the weakness of his muscles.

Would you consider having TRT published for people to have a physical copy? I know you said you were thinking about publishing a version of it

I've looked into it! So far as I can tell, I cannot legally publish TRT as is to sell to you because of The Great And All-Seeing Mouse's copyright. I even looked into selling at cost - basically you paying me only the amount required to actually make it (aka: no profit for me), but that seems to be a very risky grey area. I know other fics have done it like Fallout Equestria but those companies are a little more friendly than The Noble And Standing Over My Shoulder Mouse who is aggressively protective of his copyright even when you're not making money.

What I can do:

I can publish what amounts to an AU of TRT in which all canon references have either been removed (Daredevil plotlines) or altered (Matt's appearance, name, and profession, though I'd keep his personality), and only my original elements (TRT-unique plotline) and characters (Jane, Ciro, Eli, Maya, Daniel, etc) remain. This is the generally accepted way to publish your fanfic, and if I self-publish (tentative plan), I can leave TRT up if I understand the legality correctly. My plan's also going to be to change enough of the original plotline that there are surprises for any TRT readers (as well as giving me additional distance between the fic and the AU so no one can argue I'm 'using' the fic to make money on my book). This is going to take a while, though, since there's a lot to change between pronouns, the plot, the characters, and themes.

I can allow you to create your own physical copy. There are book printers who create individual books for people, and since you would be paying and I wouldn't be making any money, this would be legal! This is likely the easiest way to get a hard copy of the original TRT!

You can also bookbind it yourself without having to go to a book printer at all! There are some excellent guides to bookbinding online, and I've had multiple requests from readers who wanted to bookbind a copy for their own shelf, which I'm totally ok with! Again, as long as it's not being sold you have my permission to do this!

Sadly as far as I know, those are the only three ways you can get a TRT-Original or TRT-AU as a hard copy. Honestly if I had the money, I'd just order a bunch of hard copies and give them away to readers for free. When TRT is eventually done, I do plan to have a hard copy printed for myself (or maybe bookbound, not sure) and have tentative plans to buy a few extra to give away as a raffle thing. But unfortunately, I can't afford to do that on a wider scale.

GOD my heart aches every time I see the black Dartmoor

#it looks so much like my heart horse that never was (except the Dartmoor is missing a little white marking he had)#he was at the barn where a family member had their horse. a little too poorly cared for... he refused to be rideable (past abuse probably)#and they just didnt bother with him much. he was so so so pretty but his mane was always tangled and hooves out of form and stuff #whenever I came along I'd spend the whole time there just caring for him. brushing out the tangles. braiding his mane. oiling his hooves.#(just braiding the mane could take 20-30 minutes. it was so long and beautiful)#i brought him along for hacks in a halter and lead rope whenever i could. the lazy fuck (affectionate) REFUSED to go faster than a walk #but I am also a lazy fuck so it fit me pretty well tbh #in the beginning he was really tentative towards me and the stable owner had to help me go get him. but eventually he started coming to me #wasn't much of a cuddly type but you know in your heart when a horse enjoys your company don't you #my life got in the way too much because I was in high school commuting 90 minutes one way #but. sigh. what we could've had if I wasn't so freaking busy all the time :(#I'm not even sure he's alive anymore. I think it's been four years since my family member moved their horse and his fur was graying then #wasn't a dartmoor though #papers claimed him as a dole horse but his papers were untrustworthy loll. he looked more like a fell or maybe dales pony #z talks
