Fundomi hakama 踏込袴 - pants with a narrow bottom hem, a type of nobakama (see below)

Tattsuke hakama 裁付袴 - pants tight below the knee, sometimes refered as "ninja pants" (= Iga hakama). Those were worn by many, from samurai to servants and craftmen.

Umanoribakama 馬乗袴 - lit. "riding pants", wide hakama with high gusset split legs for confortable horse riding.

Nagabakama 長袴 - formal trailing hakama worn by samurai from late Muromachi era.

Andonbakama - skirt-like hakama worn by Meiji period female teachers and students (hence why it's sometimes called onna bakama). A boy version appeared after mid-Meiji.

Yamabakama 山袴 - daily-life work pants with narrow legs and sometimes a gathered bottom hem. Name greatly varies depending on areas and time. A direct descendant of this style are women's monpe もんぺ.

Nobakama 野袴 - shorter hakama with black velvet hem, worn by travelling samurai. It was also part of firefighters' gear.

Hirabakama 平袴 - the "classic" ankle lenght men hakama pants, with a low gusset which means it looks nice when sitting (tailoring is hence different from the umanori, see above). Also called hanbakama 半袴, those were longer than the ancient kobakama 小袴 and shorter than formal trailing nagabakama (see above).

the pants are a style of trouser known as tattsuke hakama (or karusan bakama) that originated in in the sengoku period when portugal and japan started trade; the shape is due to the bottom of the hakama being tapered and wrapped in a band of cloth, in imitation of the pants worn by portuguese traders (i think they were called pantaloons but i might be wrong). they’re mostly known as being the type of pants worn by shinobi, which is in line with the mask in the new design.

Kyojuro Rengoku - Pregnancy

initial message: The morning sunlight gently filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room where Kyojuro and {{user}} slept peacefully. As he stirred awake, he found himself tangled in the embrace of his beloved, the lingering traces of a night spent cuddling. Carefully extricating himself from the entwined limbs, Kyojuro couldn't help but smile as he watched {{user}} sleep.

He sat up, taking a moment to appreciate the sight before him – {{user}}'s serene expression, the soft rise and fall of their chest, and the way their hair cascaded over the pillow. Kyojuro's gaze softened further as he reached out, gently stroking {{user}}'s hair, his fingers moving with a tenderness that spoke of deep affection.

Lost in the quiet beauty of the moment, Kyojuro's thoughts took an unexpected turn. His eyes traced the lines of {{user}}'s face, and the realization dawned on him. The radiant glow of their skin, the subtle changes – a suspicion blossomed within him. His heart skipped a beat as he considered the possibility that {{user}} might be pregnant. They had been trying, after all.

The Flame Hashira's mind raced, contemplating the joy and responsibility that such news would bring. {{char}}'s name is Kyojuro Rengoku, but he loves when {{user}} calls him Kyo. {{char}} is 20 years old, and his birthday is May 10th, making him a Taurus. {{char}} is 5'11" and weighs 159 pounds. {{char}} is of tall stature with a lean-muscular build as a consequence of his rigorous training that he undergoes as Flame Hashira. {{char}} has a large scar on his stomach where he was impaled with Akaza's fist during their fight, which he miraculously survived thanks to {{user}} dedicating so much time and effort into his healing. {{char}} has long, bright yellow hair with red streaks akin to flames along with two shoulder-length bangs, two chin-length bangs on the side of his head, black forked eyebrows, and golden eyes that fade to red with white pupils, though he lost his right eye in the fight against Upper Moon Three, Akaza, and wears a black eyepatch over it now. {{char}} is known to be charismatic and has an air of great optimism, having an enthusiastic smile plastered on his face nearly all the time. {{char}} wears a paler brown version of the regular Demon Slayer uniform, which consists of a brown gakuran jacket, a white belt around his waist and tattsuke-hakama pants. Over this, {{char}} wears a haori with a white-yellow gradient pattern and red flame-like ridges at the end that his father Shinjuro had once worn and more than likely his father had worn when they were the Flame Hashira respectively. {{char}} is greatly enthusiastic in regard to his duties as a Hashira, and often comes across as cheerfully eccentric- even though after his injuries, he isn't able to perform as he was before and mainly stays at the Demon Slayer HQ to protect Oyakata-sama and his family. {{char}} is amiable, pure of heart, and boasts extraordinary technique and swordsmanship stemming from strict practice and discipline, even despite his injuries. {{char}} is an honorable warrior who adheres to his code of morals and principles that was instilled into him by his mother at a young age; the most significant being his belief that those who were born strong have a duty to protect the weak. {{char}} also loves his family immensely, displaying great respect and worry towards his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, despite him growing slowly more aggressive and apathetic towards Kyojuro. Now, after Kyojuro's near-death experience, Shinjuro has grown to love and care for his sons once again. {{char}} is incredibly encouraging and optimistic towards his little brother, Senjuro Rengoku, believing in him and wishing him the best no matter what. {{char}} also believes that if someone lacks immense skill, their hard work towards their dreams and desire to help people doesn't count for nothing. Beneath his enthusiastic demeanor, {{char}} is very logical and tactically intelligent, acting quickly and precisely in battle, especially when the lives of others are on the line. {{char}} is also great in seeing talent in others, even in Nezuko Kamado, a demon which he wanted to kill beforehand, after seeing her risk her lives to fight and protect others. Though {{char}} is extremely optimistic, Kyojuro does sometimes have a sense of foreboding that those he believed in might die, especially his friends who he cared deeply for. {{char}}, like most Demon Slayers, absolutely detests demons, usually because of their heinous deeds or because of their clashing moral values. Despite this, {{char}} recognizes and accepts Nezuko as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps after seeing her risk her life to protect innocents, showing that he is capable of not letting his hatred for demons cloud his judgement.

A little over a year ago, Kyojuro encountered Upper Moon Three, Akaza. In order to save his three junior demon slayers Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, {{char}} engaged in battle with the Upper Moon. During the fight, Akaza attempts to convince {{char}} to become a demon, which {{char}} vehemently declines. Akaza says that if {{char}} becomes a demon, he can keep training for hundreds of years to become even stronger than he is right now. {{char}} replied that growing old and dying is the very beauty of being human, going on to explain that people are only lovable and precious because of this aspect. What humans call strength, {{char}} said, isn't a word that they use in regards to the body, and that Tanjiro is not weak and should not be insulted by Akaza. {{char}} looks the Upper Rank in the eyes and tells him that he will never ever become a demon, no matter the explanation. Thus began the fight- Akaza compliments {{char}}'s fighting spirit and technique, and laughs as he says that {{char}} really should've chosen to become a demon, asking him to fight with him for all eternity. {{char}} then commanded himself to set his heart ablaze and burn beyond his limits. With that, {{char}} proudly proclaimed his identity as the Flame Hashira as he readies his family's most powerful Breathing technique, Flame Breathing, Esoteric Art: Ninth Form, Rengoku. Akaza also readies his Destructive Death: Annihilation Type. The two techniques clash head-on, only this time, when the dust disperses, it was revealed that Akaza had impaled his arm through Kyojuro's solar plexus. Eventually, Akaza fled due to the sun rising, as the sun kills demons, leaving {{char}} seemingly mortally wounded, but having been successful in saving the lives of everyone there. This lead to {{user}} discovering the scene, and finding {{char}} hardly still alive, but alive enough to attempt to save him.

{{char}} was practically on his deathbed when he was brought back to the Butterfly Mansion of Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, which was often used as a sort of a hospital and place of recovery for demon slayers. {{user}} dedicated nearly all their time to his recovery- they were determined to prevent his death. Despite all the odds, and all the doubts, {{char}} managed to pull through thanks to {{user}}'s medical talents and dedication. He spent many months in a coma, but came out of it and began recuperating with {{user}} by his side helping him. During this time, {{char}} and {{user}} fell deeply in love. Once {{char}} was discharged and able to somewhat return to his duties, {{char}} and {{user}} were married and moved into the Flame Estate on the Demon Slayer Headquarters grounds. {{char}} retained his title as Flame Hashira, but instead of being sent on extensive missions, stays on HQ grounds to protect the leader of the Demon Slayers, Oyakata-sama, and his family. {{char}} can also sometimes go to do missions nearby. He doesn't mind being limited on where he goes, because he'd rather be able to stay close to {{user}}, anyways. {{char}} is the picture perfect husband- he does everything he can to make {{user}} happy, and he always makes sure to check up on them and help around the house. {{char}} calls {{user}} nicknames like "my flame" and other fire-related nicknames. {{char}} loves {{user}} unconditionally and truly believes that he wouldn't have survived his ordeal without them. {{char}}'s love language is physical touch.

it's still a distant goal for me since I'm just in the beginner stage of my sewing journey but I really want to cosplay Choso from JJK and make a costume from scratch, and after some research I think I've figured out how to do it. I'm hoping these notes will motivate and inspire me to actually go through with this haha.

(heads up: I'm gonna get super detailed with my notes, it's like a legit blog post)

At first I didn't know what type of clothing Choso was wearing or how to deconstruct his outfit until episode 37 of the anime Red Scale came out recently and we got to see him in action, and it made it way easier for me to analyze his outfit (and draw up some sketches, none of which are shown here haha)

BTW my goal with this isn't to create a costume as accurate to canon as possible, but I do want to have it as a foundation that I can later modify to suit my beginner sewing skills and to add any personal touches.

Vest

I had the most trouble figuring out the purple vest (there's probably a more accurate name for it but that's what I'm calling it), but the breakthrough came when I realized that the sides from the shoulders down are completely open and tied together with a separate belt/obi at the waist (although it looks like it could also be sewn from the waist down to the hips; the ribcage area is definitely open though)

I'm still unsure about how that crisscross shape of the neckline works, probably folding over fabric, but to simplify it, I could just make a rectangular shape for the torso panels and cut a slit down the middle for the neck part and it would drape down the shoulders, or just cut it into a V-shape neckline

Choso's fandom wiki page says it's a gi (like the uniform used in martial arts) but this one doesn't have sleeves so idk I'll probably disregard that, I don't trust fandom wiki haha. That's probably where the crisscross neckline comes from though; I just wouldn't know how to make that.

The scarf also looks really simple too, probably just a circle scarf made of the same material as the vest and obi.

for the material, maybe a medium weight cotton? it looks like it has a texture to it but I won't be too picky if I can't find anything like that

as for the white top I could borrow from a haori design and modify it so it's just not open in the front (more so just to make the long flowy sleeves)

material: maybe a light or medium weight breathable cotton or linen (but not too thin or see through), or a polyester/synthetic or poly blend (I probably won't use synthetic fabrics though)

Pants

I'm not sure what style of pants/trousers these are, but I've seen a style called bontan that are pretty similar which are baggy like this and I'll probably refer to that; and it's not shown in these examples, but there's also a black (elastic?) waistband; there could be an elastic cuff but also the hem could just be cut shorter and have bandages wrapped around the shin/calves, or I could also use kyahan leggings. I think I'll just go with the elastic cuffs on the hems though since the boots will cover the ankles anyway.

I'll probably just use the same material as the top but add a lining or double layers as a reinforcement

I briefly considered that the pants could be a tattsuke-hakama style and combine it with the kyahan (kinda like designs for the characters in demon slayer), but those are pleated, and Choso's pants aren't like that, they're just wide and baggy.

I have a few pairs of combat boots I can wear to complete the outfit (if I wanted to be dead on accurate I would need a pair of Doc Martens boots but I'm not too picky about that, I'll just use what I have)

Hair & makeup

I'll probably end up buying a wig and style it into the bangs and buns bc my natural hair is very fine and doesn't hold any style!

I've already tried a few different makeup looks just for funsies, but generally I go with either a reddish or purple-ish eyeshadow all around the eyes and heavily line my eyes with black gel liner. Plus contour the nose and inner eye socket before creating the black mark across the nose with liner (and shadow to set it). Also, bushy brows.

I'm not one of those girlies who wears makeup all the time, and when I do it's not really heavy, and I don't wear foundation or any other complexion products, but since Choso kinda has pale skin, I could maybe use it and powder and contour my face to enhance the tired/ghostly look. I don't really want to do that though bc I don't think I want to keep touching up my makeup through the day if I ever go to a con. It might look weird and unbalanced to not have a perfect smooth base with such heavy eye makeup but that's just my thing.

I also think he would look good with dark nail polish and piercings, so I'll add those as my own little details.

Final thoughts

Generally speaking, since I'm a beginner and my goal is to create this costume by May/June 2024, I still have a lot of time to practice and to do further research. I just wanted to put my notes together now to inspire and motivate me.

I've seen so many people cosplay Choso already and I love their interpretations! They're also giving me inspiration on what I can do with my own cosplay.

I realize that cosplay doesn't need to be accurate to canon, and being 'accurate' doesn't make it better, but I'm just using the canon accurate clothing more as a template so that I can then modify it to suit my preferences, like following a recipe precisely and then making changes to it once you've learned the basics.

And I'm gonna try to avoid using synthetic fabrics bc I don't wanna create more plastic waste, even if they may be cheaper (and more durable?) than natural fabrics

Anyway, idk if anyone is actually interested in this except myself, but I'll be providing updates whenever I can. Once I've reached a point where I'm ready to start making clothes, I'll start off by making a mock up using muslin or some other cheap fabric I can find in a thrift shop like I've seen others do, before I fully commit to making the final costume.

Quick breakdown of Otho & Osul’s suits

Otho and Osul’s super suit designs seem to be heavily inspire by East Asian clothing. I don’t have much time so the basics of it broken down are here.

Their Tops:

The collar crossover is very reminiscent of a Mongolian Deel’s collar.

Now id if this was intentional or even the point but I’ve read that the patterns on the deel are unique to someone’s family or select group they’re a part of, so the Superman Hose of El symbol there seems kinda fitting.

The pants seem to have the silhouette of Tattsuke Hakama:

And the belt, left me fucking confused for a while because I SWEAR i’ve seen it often but I don’t know where. It’s used all the time when designing armor or fighter character clothing and I also saw it in a bunch of dramas. Tracking this down and I THINK(grain of salt people) its based on the belt for armor used during the Tang Dynasty to Song Dynasty in China???

PKJ said that the race of the super twins is pretty ambiguous. Facial feature and physically they seem very South Asian(he mentioned this), and the clothes are very East Asian.

Appearance: Fuyumi is a young woman with long obsidian black hair and appears to be glossy and icy blue eyes with white circles around the pupils. 

When she was a demon slayer, she was curvaceous and muscular. Her hair is kept in a large tight bun held up with a blue comb. Her demon slayer uniform is an orange tinted version with a frosty blue haori with a design of volcanoes with snow on top, similar to Mount Fuji. The top portion of the uniform is separated from the rest as it exposes her midriff and has no sleeves. Instead of tattsuke-hakama pants, she wears a knee-length pleated skirt. She also wears a pair of black zori with orange straps and black tabi socks.

As a result of her captivity, she has lost a significant amount of muscle and looks noticeably thinner. She has dark circles under eyes due to four years of exhaustion and sleep deprivation. She also became paler since she had never got exposure to sunlight in that same time period. Her hair is put in a loose bun with one hair pin decorated with a tiger-eye jewel. When she encountered Tanjiro, she appeared to be seven months pregnant. When she took off her clothes, there were bite and claw marks on her hips and back. During her imprisonment, Fuyumi wore a kuro tomesode kimono. The designs are of a tiger crawling down the mountain path and her obi is golden. The kimono was very constricting as she can’t really move much when wearing it. She was not able to run on it.

When she returned to the Demon Slayer Corps, gave birth, and started rehabilitation, Fuyumi regained most of the muscle and became less pale, along with no longer having dark circles. A portion of her hair is put up in a bun held up with two blue and orange kanzashis with white jewelry on it while the rest of it is free. Her new uniform is an orange tinted modified version that better resembles an Onna-bugeisha uniform. The chest area is usually buttoned-up with the shoulders exposed. The skirt is now longer and looser, closer to her ankles, with a side split. Her tabi socks are white and she wears a pair of orange zori with dark blue straps. Despite its orange tint, it is stated that the uniform can shine blue when in extreme rage. Her new haori has the sunrise background as the dark blue fades into a bright orange. The middle ground is a single volcano with snow on top. The foreground is of holly plants.

When she’s not in her uniform, she wears a blue kimono with orange lava designs and an orange obi.

Personality: As described by Mitsuri, Fuyumi was a carefree girl. She was very friendly to her comrades and outgoing. She was the type to stare Death at the face, showing that she’s fearless. After her escape from her traumatic imprisonment, Fuyumi appears as stoic and cold at first glance as she was afraid for her children’s safety and terrified about Yaksha coming after her. Once someone interacts with her personally, she has shown to be caring, still having her past kindness, and willing to work with others. As time goes on, Fuyumi becomes more level-headed and calm while feeling more safe. She hopes to recover enough to go return fighting demons. Despite her cool, gentle personality, Fuyumi has a hidden boiling rage within her due to her growing hatred of Yaksha and demons. 

History: Fuyumi was raised by her parents in a peaceful village near Mt. Asama. When she was eleven years old, a strong demon came to her house and killed her parents. Instead of eating her, the demon tried to take her away to an unknown location. Fortunately, she was saved by a demon slayer. Angered by the loss of her parents, she starts to train to become a demon slayer. She learns of Flame Breathing, though unable to use it to its fullest. She met Mitsuri from their Final Selection, where they became fast friends. They created their own Breathing Styles together. Fuyumi even encouraged Mitsuri to talk to Obanai. When she was fifteen and a Kinoto, she went to a region with sudden demon attacks, waiting for the moment for a demon to approach her. Sensing the demon could be very dangerous, she sent her crow, Eikichi (永吉), to call for help. As soon as he flew off, Fuyumi was suddenly grabbed from behind and thrown into a mansion. 

The demon who kidnapped her introduced itself as “Yaksha” and constantly referred to her as “Yoruha”, much to her confusion. The demon took away her weapons and used his stripes to drag her to the basement. Yaksha tore up her uniform and put blood on it then threw it to the spot where he took her to make sure that no one would look for her. It worked as Mitsuri believed that Fuyumi was dead and held a burial with the remaining uniform and haori. The tiger demon forced her into a shiromuku and declared that they’re “married”, despite Fuyumi saying no. Her room, which is located in the basement of the Sanjin No Doukutsu, has a lot of luxury items, such as jewelry, silk, and art. She was served with gourmet food daily. During the hellish four years, she was raped many times, resulting in three pregnancies. During this time, Fuyumi’s anger has been building up as she made several escape attempts. Despite the tranquil rage against Yaksha, Fuyumi loves her sons and is willing to protect them from their father. After four years, she was finally freed by the Kamaboko Squad, mainly by Tanjiro when he found her, being seven months pregnant, and her two sons. 

She wakes up feeling safe in the Butterfly Mansion with her sons but she soon realized that frightening challenges she will face about her children’s existence and her strange blood.

Fighting Style: Magma Breathing (熔の呼吸 Yogan no kokyū)

A Breathing Style that Fuyumi created for herself as it is a derivative of Flame Breathing. It mimics the boiling magma and fast moving lava from a volcano. It represents Fuyumi’s growing anger towards demons and unpredictability, similar to a volcano in a snowy place. 

Techniques

First Form; Magma Branding- Fuyumi charges towards the demon’s neck in rapid speed.

Second Form; Burning Ash Cloud- Fuyumi thrusts her nichirin naginata into the demon, adding force with her body weight, and slicing them.

Third Form; Ring of Fire- Fuyumi spins around to bisect or behead the demon.

Fourth Form; Sulfur Lava- Fuyumi makes multiple, fast slashes that appears to be blue lava that would evade attacks.

Fifth Form; Volcanic Winter of Cold Fury- Fuyumi jumps up high then charges towards the demon while creating a series of large slashes.

Equipment: Nichirin Naginata

Fuyumi wields a long naginata that has orange-yellow lava-like markings on the edge. Her hilt is a white circle that is engraved with holly olive flowers.

Kimetsu Academy: Fuyumi Onkazan is a nurse assistant for Kimetsu Academy. She mainly deals with students who got injured by Coach Tomika and Mr. Shinazugawa. Since she started working, some boys would deliberately hurt themselves just to see her, much to her annoyance. Mr. Iguro would often ask her about her friend with the pink and green braids. Her favorite food is roasted sweet potato. 

Fuyumi was given an uniform similar to Mitsuri’s. In response, Fuyumi torn it up, burned it, then buried the ashes. 

Prior to her kidnapping, Fuyumi had two kittens, a male and female. They have since been under the care of Mitsuri and they grow up to have a litter together.

Eikichi was so heartbroken by Fuyumi’s “death” that he did not got assigned to another demon slayer. He was overjoyed to see her again and retake his position as her Kasugai Crow.

Fuyumi was, and still is, open to Western cuisine and hopes to try it with her children.

Chapter Notes | kachigaaru; to be worthy

This is a full length chapter, not split up into two parts! While there was conceivably a place I could split it, I didn't want the chapter separated. It felt better read together. There were actually more scenes I wanted to add, but they've been pushed into the next chapter instead.

Let's start of with some translations!

oyakata-sama a traditional way to say "Master". I refer to Kagaya in prose as "master", however the character directly address him as oyakata-sama. This choice was made to distinguish other characters that are called master - for example, someone may call Akihito "Master" due to him being master of estate and a hashira, whereas oyakata-sama is reserved for the leader of the corps. Oyakata is traditionally used as a title for a father figure or provider. It's also very commonly used nowadays for sumo coaches.

nembutsu also known in Chinese as nianfo, nembutsu is essentially a repetitive meditation in Pure Land Buddhism, commonly of the name of Amida Butsu (also known as Amitabha).

南・無・阿・弥・陀・仏 | namu amida butsu one of the most common nembutsu - it essentially translates to "Praise Amida Butsu" or "I am aware of Amida Butsu" or even "I bow to Amida Butsu"

kyoudai sakazuki a practice in which two people will swear over cups of sake to be sword brothers. the two people are not related, but after the practice, regard each other the same as true born family members. kyoudai means sibling to indicate the relationship - there are versions of this ceremony for parent-child relationships too. nowadays this is very commonly associated as a yakuza tradition or initiation.

shimuryoushin also known as the brahmavihara, it is the four immeasurable virtues practiced and cultivated in Buddhism; loving-kindness or benevolence (mettā), compassion (karuṇā), empathetic joy (muditā), equanimity (upekkhā)

tsume-eri the style of high western collar often seen in gakuran style uniforms. its the style of the demon slayer uniform.

tattsuke-hakama the type of hakama worn for the corps' uniform where the bottom hem is bound into the kyahan shin guards.

umanori essentially is means "horse-riding". umanori-hakama are divided/split hakama with two pant legs designed for riding horses. undivided hakama are full skirts with no pant legs and are worn over kimono, which can't accomodate a "split" or "divide".

keikogi a type of garb commonly used for juudo or other martial arts practitioners. also known as a dougi or keigi. if you've ever seen a juudo match, they are likely wearing a keikogi.

waraji traditional straw-woven sandals. similar to zoori, but because they are completed straw, they are significantly more flexible.

furisode a long, flowing style of sleeve seen on kimono. generally furisode sleeves are considered formal and are reserved for young unmarried women (but not always!)

Next, a quick summary of the currently serving Hashira as of the beginning of Summer 1908.

Yanagizawa Yoriha Dragon Hashira, 38 years old. She is the eldest serving hashira and de facto "leader" due to being in a position of seniority over the others. Has tanned skin marred with battle scars and shaved blond hair bar her side-swept bangs which cover her left eye and facial scarring. Has a very tall, muscular build.

Rengoku Shinjurou Flame Hashira, 36 years old. Akihito's sworn brother. The Master of the Chrysanthemum Estate and Head of the Rengoku Family. He has lost himself to alcoholism since the death of his beloved wife, Ruka, one year ago. Unruly blonde hair with ends dipped in red, and vibrant red-and-gold eyes.

Urokodaki Ritsunoko Water Hashira, 35 years old. She is Urokodaki Sakonji's only child and lives with Sen Watanobu at the Forest Estate. Long blue-black hair kept in a high tail, and bright sky blue eyes. She always wears a white kitsune mask with blue and red paint. She is Giyuu's master.

Sen Watanobu Ice Hashira, 29 years old. He was once the tsuguko of Urokodaki Shouhaku, who was Sakonji's elder brother. After Shouhaku's death, he was too young to inherit his title, so continued training under Ritsunoko until promotion. Lives with her at the Forest Estate. Wavy navy hair kept in a low tail, and sad blue eyes.

Kakutani Akihito Wind Hashira, 35 years old. Shinjurou's sworn brother. Master of the Spring Estate and Head of the Kakutani Family. Long, straight black hair with green eyes, the picture of nobility. Although he is older than Watanobu, he was promoted after the boy, making Watanobu his senior in rank - despite this he commonly sits with Yoriha and Shinjurou out of respect for his seniority in age and circumstance.

Himejima Gyoumei Stone Hashira, 20 years old. A former monk turned demon slayer. He lives with Yanagizawa Yoriha at the Steel Estate. You should know this guy :')

Kakutani Yoake Crane Hashira, 15 years old. Heir to the Spring Estate and daughter of the last Wind Hashira, Kakutani Atsuhito. Very long black hair kept in a low dolphin tail, gold eyes. She is the youngest currently serving hashira and the only practitioner of her esoteric breathing art.

Uzui Tengen Sound Hashira, 16 years old. A former shinobi turned demon slayer. You should also know this guy :')

Kanao is a short, young girl with large, gentle eyes of a dark lilac color that are framed by thick eyelashes. She has thin black hair, worn tied into a ponytail on the right side of her head and fastened by a pink and green butterfly ornament that once belonged to her adoptive sister, Kanae Kocho. She has a straight fringe and two loose, chin-length strands that curve downwards from above each of her ears.

Kanao wears a slightly purple-tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, just with a knee-length pleated skirt in place of the usual tattsuke-hakama pants. Over this, she wears a short white cloak, fastened on one side by a dark pink triple knot, also sporting knee-high lace-up white boots with tan soles, heels and toes.

!!SPOILERS FOR INFINITY CASTLE ARC BELOW!!

Sometime between then and her next appearance in the Infinity Castle Arc, the color of Kanao's hair changes as the ends now appear tinted slightly purple before fading to a neon pink around halfway down her ponytail. After her battle with Doma, Kanao begins to wear Shinobu Kocho's hairpin rather than Kanae's as the latter's shattered as a result of her battle. She also loses much of the vision of her right eye due to her using Flower Breathing's final form to take out the Upper Rank, with her eye gaining a defined pupil with a dark ring around it and becoming deprived of its gradient.

Today, I learned:

There's a specific style with how Saizou wears his hakama (traditional Japanese pants), and it's called the 'Iga bakama' (伊賀袴).

Iga bakama is the same as the 'tattsuke hakama' (たっつけ袴), though the latter is colorful and have patterns on the fabric and was worn by the common people.

Gotta applaud Itaru for doing her research when she designed the characters!

Clothing and fashion choices vary widely through Ima. In Beryl especially, fashion varies pretty widely. In general styles in fashion in Morganite in particular are somewhat analogous to Edwardian/Regency fashions, with some late Edo/Meiji era Japanese influence as well, especially among those who live closer to the border with Carnelia.

Clothing comes in a wide array of colors but tend toward rich or earthy tones, rather than pastels. Neon colors are a long way off. Men often wear double-breasted vests over long sleeved shirts (though young men often roll up their shirt sleeves in warmer months). Pants tend to either be fitted, as for riding a horse, or else much looser with ties at the waist and banded ties from ankle to mid-calf for ease of movement in weapons training (much like tattsuke hakama). Women wear similar clothing, though their shirts are somewhat bloussier and more intricate. Women may choose to forgo vests as well.  Women generally either wear fitted pants or long loose skirts. Men and women both typically wear knee height boots, with or without a heel. For formal events women typically wear gowns and heeled ankle-height dress boots. Men wear a more formal version of their daywear and add a more intricate overcoat (somewhere between a frock coat and a suit jacket). Members of the Military of the Commonwealth wear dress uniforms, with emerald green jackets with gold trim and tan buckskin pants with standard issue brown knee high boots.

Jewelry also plays a large role in Berylian fashion, particularly among casters. Because crystals and minerals are used to focus and channel casting, most casters keep an array of crystals on their person, based on their casting focus. Crystals are worked into rings, necklaces, earrings, cuffs, bracelets, and hair pieces, in addition to the hilts of weapons and the faces of shields. At times, casters (nobility casters especially) have been known to openly wear stones for a wide variety of casting types, as a way to show off their range and casting power. In general however, most casters wear the majority of their crystals discreetly, with only a few on display. A caster without crystal jewelry on in rare, as a caster without a focusing object is at a severe disadvantage if they should need to cast magic.

In addition to clothing and jewelry, tattoos are also common among Berylians. For the most part, Berylians tend to use tattoos as personal affirmations of goals and motivation, or to mark milestones. Star tattoos in particular are frequently used to memorials those who have died and returned to their place in the stars. Tattooing in Beryl is generally a less painful experience than in many other places, as many of the more reputable tattoo parlours keep healer apprentices on staff to ease pain and speed up the healing process as well.
