Ray intends to die. From what he said, he's doing it so you and I don't get killed. He didn't include himself in the numbers. He's not escaping. Ray has decided to die inside this house. He's going to set himself on fire to distract Mom in order to let us run away. That's his entire plan.

another little doodle I did of younger Ray and Norman, I've been enjoying drawing them recently.

What I had in mind for this was along the lines of Ray having a miserable day, therefore he seeked out relaxation and comfort by simply bringing Norman into what Ray processed as a 'hug'.

i don't understand how some people interpret norman and ray's relationship as like. this vaguely competitive thinly veiled rivalry for emma's heart. or even that theyre not friends at All and only tolerate eachother for her. like did we watch the same show??? i know our brains have been rotted by lame heteronormative 2/5 star romances but yall.

Ray did not spend six years planning an escape and literally staking his life on the escape of a guy he tolerated. i guess i understand how people can think theyre not Really friends like they are with Emma from the scene where Ray gets revealed to be the traitor. but Norman's initial thought to use Ray wasn't some plan he'd just been Waiting to use to get his rival out of the way, it was just logic. Norman relies on logic above all else as a default, which is why he needs Emma, but thats a whole other conversation. Anyways- if nothing else, the time between it getting revealed that Norman's getting shipped, and him Actually getting shipped shows just how Much they All care about eachother. Ray was willing to break his arm and get sick to save Norman, he abandoned all logic for their makeshift plan to save Norman. Not to mention Norman's little speech about how he couldn't bare to have either of them die in his place. oh yeah also all the grief when Norman realized what Ray planned to do to trigger the escape. it Is a little more subliminal in the anime though so i can get that being missed. i know i missed it the first time i watched it

#i have seen this much less this time round in the fandom thankfully. but it was Prominent back when i first read the manga #i have a lot of thoughts about this but im not that good with words #also the anime like. Cloverworks pushing away the entire Norray subplot was crazy (well platonic norray but you get me)

Like after Norman found out Ray was the spy (it's really ironic tbh I love it >_<) he started to realize that he loved and appreciated Ray way more than he initially thought like even during that scene he was like "damn he was really risking it all for us..." "All of this for our sake..." He was like really touched (also before the confrontation he asked Ray why he thinks the traitor is betraying them and asked Emma if they should take the traitor with them during the escape all because he was looking for any reason to see the best in Ray) and literally after that he kept defending him with his LIFE every time they told someone Ray was the spy (first Emma then Don and Gilda) like "HE DID IT FOR OUR SAKE" OK DAMN CHILL...

and he was literally so fixated on the "to make sure YOU BOTH don't get killed" slip up he was on a mission to confirm his suspicions for like the rest of his stay in Grace Field and in his letter to Emma he was like "but Ray is amazing..." and "please take care of Ray... and the others I guess" like OK man

Ray was going to die so Emma and Norman could live and Norman literally did that for him instead like you can't make this shit up he literally adores Ray ok? He loves him so much he'd do anything for him HE LITERALLY SWITCHED PLACES WITH HIM BECAUSE HE THOUGHT RAY ALREADY SUFFERED ENOUGH FOR THEM and he kept thinking about him during his stay at Lambda too he didn't say "I miss her" he said "I miss them"

Meanwhile Cloverworks was like removing Ray from everything for Noremma's sake like what... Norman was hugging both of them in his nightmare... And idk if I remember this correctly but I think all three of them were holding hands at some point but in the anime Ray didn't hold hands with them and I know season 2 doesn't exist but they excluded Ray from the full score TRIO hug with Norman when he was breaking down and made him not gaf STOP FORCING NOREMMA!!!!! THERE WAS LITERALLY A SUBPLOT ABOUT NORMAN LOVING RAY!!! FUCK YOU!!!!!!!
