If y'all wanna know how dumb I am, I went to watch the new season of the Crown today. As it starts playing, I'm like, oh! they brought back the S1 actors for a flashback! Cool! Going back to Elizabeth's wedding, though, that's kind of boring-- didn't they already do that? Well, I guess it is a way to bring it full circle... this is a long flashback.... they already went into a lot of detail on her dad in the first season, why are we getting it again? Well, love the actor, so can't really complain...

I made it to the balmoral boat/hunting scene before I realized it was the first time watching the series on my new acct and that I was literally watching s1e1.

I know you have a lot of thoughts about Ncuti and Tennant sharing the end of The Giggle, but a penny for your thoughts on RTD's use of UNIT, not only in this episode but in The Star Beast as well.

i hate nuwho's use of UNIT in general, not just here but in every appearance they've had. I don't think lionizing a quasi-military operation is the cool move all the showrunners seem to think it is—they're just nameless soldiers who run in with guns, or else all-powerful explainer characters who always suddenly know just enough to be convenient, and in each successive appearance they always have more tech and more guns and more things exploding. They just seem like a cheat code to get in the usual aggressive tanks-and-bombs of a Marvel movie into Doctor Who, in other words.

In these episodes—I mean, yeah, I don't like UNIT, so I didn't like them here. I don't see the point of having a military organization swanning through Doctor Who unquestioned. I really don't like the Doctor somehow having enough power to cause an international incident toward South Korea with no one questioning it. That level of violent power, and how much nuWho seems ok with it, is just....gross.

#by 'showrunners' i mean rtd and moff because i missed a lot of chibs' years and idk if he did anything with unit #but yeah. i didnt love them with rtd the first time and with each moff thing i really didnt like them. just a cheap way to get some guns in #mostly though. i dont have unit thoughts. they barely occur to me as being part of dw aside from the pertwee years #which is why im always so surprised when they show back up! mighta mentioned this before but i used to have a lotta ocd tendencies but when i got prescribed ssris (medication often prescribed to treat anxiety disorders such as ocd) for my depression allat went away lol. like ok. lets not worry about that

boone update:

still about the same, still having spikes of tachycardia but they can't quite figure out what's triggering them - could be general anxiety, could be noises/people walking by, could be something else, it's hard to say. some sinus arrythmia but no like super irregular heartbeats or cause for concern there, so that's good. they're going to discharge him home to me this afternoon with some trazadone and ideally he can start to de-stress. i'll be checking his heartrate periodically so if it seems like it's still uncontrolled we'll head back to an ER, i'm hopeful that it will be much calmer once he's home though.

dr also recommended a cardiac echo/workup, which unfortunately is a specialty that my hospital doesn't offer. the smaller hospitals are all booked out until late july, the largest hospital has their cardio team in on wednesday so i'll talk to them then and make a plan - if i need to i can bring him in through their ER and transfer him up, it's more expensive but at this point i'm already in the hole so whatever. i just need to get it done ideally within the week. we can still do the echo at my work, but without a cardiologist to read it/make a treatment plan it's kind of a half-measure so i'd rather just go straight to the specialists.

thanks all for the well wishes, i appreciate them a lot. hopefully we're on the right track and can figure out a plan of action soon. i was supposed to be on vacation next week and i have a definite suspicion that won't be happening lol.

#i wish id thought to check his heartrate when he collapsed but it didnt occur to me #when he was getting triaged ~20 minutes later it was over 200bpm though so i'd guess it was even higher which is. really not great. #my poor nervous boy :(
