well i… finished act 5 act 2. gonna have to rewatch cascade a bunch of times and probably read the act summary on the wiki but i have officially reached the end of the act

still enjoying it a lot but it’s getting harder and harder to read. summing up a rant i gave my friend, i’m not super in love with the sense of predestined futility - or more accurately, i don’t feel that the narrative has properly addressed that yet and justified why i should be reading about these characters who were like 100x doomed from the start.

there are so many characters and so much happening that nothing is lingered upon, which is nice pacing-wise but not so nice emotional-impact-wise. i also think the “everybody dies a bajillion times and it’s fine until all of a sudden it’s not” thing works against it in a sense, especially when the narrative doesn’t stop to mourn anyone who’s actually dead, bc by the time you realize hey wait maybe like. vriska or dad or feferi/nepeta/equius etc are dead for real it’s been like 200+ pages and you’re like well ok. what do i do here exactly.

and i know that that’s an intentional choice hussie made for how he wanted to craft his narrative - im wishing for things that he deliberately chose not to give. im not trying to say that these choices are flaws in his writing, just that as an audience member i tend to prefer the tlt method of dealing with death, where one main character dies and then the entire next book is about another ripping herself apart because of it.

im not giving up by any means, or even saying that this is what’s dominating my reading experience. like i said im still enjoying myself and appreciate most of the creative decisions that hussie is making. it can just feel very draining i suppose, watching these characters i’ve come to care about - almost all of whom are literal children - fighting so hard so futilely, and so far, imo the narrative hasn’t paid that off. however, with that out of the way, here are (some of, bc this shit was long as hell) my thoughts on the act, more or less in order:

i have literally no interest in johnkat. probably partially bc my friend is so into davekat that ive been conditioned to just wait for that to happen but also bc they have no chemistry. sorry to any johnkat shippers out there but idc it’s boring

i have slightly more but still negligible interest in john/vriska. probably bc i… don’t really care about john. sorry to any john stans out there but idc he’s boring

eehee here it is the long awaited results of my chaotic ass survey about our hornies it’s so long holy heck, but I have seperated it into a couple sections to make sense of it all (omg if you read all of it lemme give you a kith teehee) ahhhh lol its SO nerdy haha but i hope that ya enjoy nonetheless! ✨

Out of 100 individuals surveyed, 44 were readers, 2 were only writers, and 54 were both readers and writers. 

Statistical significance can be effected by sampling, selection, and response bias (yeah i took a stats class teehee) and personal biases 

All the the opinions and other analysis presented by me (Ro/binniesthighs) are purely my own oponion and are not factual. you are entitled to interpret all of this information however you like! Anything that i analyze is not definitive! 

while this survey is mostly about stay smutblr, i hope that it can also maybe serve as a template for other fandoms as well with the more general questions! this is a survey for everyone!

~My thoughts: this really came as no surprise to me considering how the majority of kpop fans (especially boy group fans) identify as female! Seeing as I am a Stray Kids/Seventeen blog (both of them boy groups) it makes sense to me that my readers would mostly identify as female! 

Another important thing to note (from a writer standpoint at least) is the wide array of identities that we still have present within the general audience of stay smut blur (SSB)! I’ll get into this later when i discuss favorite pairings to read, however i think that this gives us one more reason to write for a diverse audience of readers who can identify with different types of self-insert fics!

~My thoughts: okkkkk i see us gays of SSB 😏 these demographics were really exciting for me to see! i think that it’s super cool that we have such representation across the board when it comes to sexual orientations present in our community! As someone who personally identifies as pan, this was super comforting to see that there are so many others like me in this little space of the internet! I think it’s safe to say at least from my lil survey that all the bi cuties out here own SSB 💗💜💙

From a literal standpoint, it also makes sense to me that heterosexuality is strongly present as well considering that often the pairs that we read are male idol x female reader so this is the perfect niche!

~My thoughts: this one i was THRILLED at seeing oml hahaha and i was so interested to see that this was nearly an even split! 

I think that there’s something to be said about how sometimes we can take our hobbies: (movies, videogames, books, kpop, anime etc)--all things which we really like in totally normal and healthy ways but also kinda like....get hornies about them too? if that makes sense? for example, i have a friend who really likes certain video games/characters from these games as a fan and he’s shared with me that he also doesn’t mind watching porn containing those same characters! (ahahah ya all know what i mean don’t even lie haha) 

what this question proved to me as that there are stays out there who practice “being a stay/being a stay creator” who also are interested in the more...horny side of this hobby/interest 😂

what is even more interesting to me is who i wonder if i’ve  have consumed any of ya’ll’s content while you have consumed mine??? this i am DYING to know aha but it think its best for all of us to stay anonymous teehee ;)

~My thoughts: once again, this category was pretty self explanatory to me considering that the majority of readers are female identifying, so it would make sense that they would prefer to read smut that aligns with their identity! This is also super present anyway of SSB as i do feel like the majority of writing pieces that I do come along are idol x female reader, and most authors too often disclaim that they are the most comfortable writing this type of pairing as well. 

What’s signficant as well is the interest in reading fics with gender neutral reader self inserts as well! this is my personal philosophy when it comes to writing (specifically with requests) but i think that writing gn!reader is always the safest bet to go as to not make assumptions about readers! for writers i think that seeing this 19% is something important to take into consideration! 

An outlier to me with this demographic was the “poly r-ship” poll garnering a notable 14% in comparison to the idol x idol option which got 10 less votes (4%). what is a little confusing to me about this is how poly r/ships often (but not always) contain idol x idol content, however there is discrepancy with the amount of readers outright saying that they enjoy reading it alone. I’ll get into poly fics later with the unpopular opinions section--however i wanted to plant the seed here hehe. One other caveat to this is the fact that on SSB i feel like idol x idol content is really in the minority and is much more present on a platform like AO3 so this could be another explaination! 

What is kinda cute to me is the fact that readers do really like poly r-ship dynamics more than a threesome (as i defined it, “with less interaction”) so this makes me feel like we are all saps for the fluff that comes with poly r-ship fics ;) 

Favorite Kind of Smut to Read 

male idol smut (67%) 

i read both! (female and male idol smut) (25%) 

depends on my mood (7%) 

female idol smut (1%) 

~My thoughts: Again, this is super expected to me as well considering the above statistics. Since i am a skz blog (a boy group) --as are my moots-- it really makes sense that those who filled out this survey would be into male idol smut! 

what was cool for me to see as well was the number of readers who also read female idol smut as well as male idol smut! personally, i more predominately a fan of boy groups compared to the amount of girl group content that I consume (note: i do also consume gg content). because of this, i think that its really up to personal preferences and the content that you consume that can be reflective of the smut content that you consume as well and ya know, whoever gets your hornies going ;) 

Favorite Genres...Ranked! 

*so this was my fault lol i totally formatted this question poorly in google forms so i’ll try to summarize the most popular rankings with my words haha 

*bc of the way that i miffed it (lol) i wasn’t able to get exact measurements, but rough ones!

~My thoughts: by far, the most popular ranking that i saw was as follows: smut, fluff, angst. i saw this sososos many times haha also...ya’ll got really creative with your rankings and it made me giggle hehe. So! seeing as this is stay smutblr haha makes total sense that the three most popular rankings that we have were lead by smut! since we’re here for the hornies, i totally get this. 

as for the “smut n’ fluff” or “fluffy smut” category, there was a decent amount of readers that expressed that this mixture is their fave! i’m kinda looping this with the “mixture” option that i also provided for this question since this was the most popular mixture that i was able to observe along with angst + smut. interestingly, i saw a couple mentions of “hurt/comfort” fics with this question too so this went well with this preference. as for number three on this list, we dip into that smut + angst category that I just mentioned as well. there were several individuals who said that they really really enjoy reading smut with angst! 

lastly we get to the four and five on the list: four being fluff, smut and angst. i think this category can also properly represent the folx who tend to like more fluffy fics over the smutty ones, but that can also have suggestive themes too! in five, we have angst, fluff and smut which also is representative of another theme that i saw: as far as plot goes, several people mentioned that they liked fics that start with angst, get fluffier, and then end up in smut, so i think that this could be easily compared! 

*there were also several readers who simply said “all of them” or opted not to rank, (lol me) so this really shows the variability in results!

~My thoughts: this one was super helpful for me to see!! and writers i hope that this is helpful for you too! as someone who tends to rambles (lol) it was very comforting for me to see that long-ish fics are actually preferred! what is really cool about this data too is that it is all super well balanced for the most part and nearly edqual in some parts! how i see this, i think that when it comes to preferences of length, its really reader specific so anyone could like anything! this goes into a little bit the slow burn question that i asked as well too, but it’s really cool to see that when readers do read, they kinda like something to sink their teeth into! 

i wanted to look into how long it takes you to read these words, and it appears that on average, a 5-8k fic can take someone 30 mins to read whereas a 2-4k fic takes about 15mins! idk if this says something about attention spans, but as a writer it warms my heart to know that you’re willing to spend 30 minutes of your time reading something that i wrote! 🥺

another thing i wanted to bring up is the “hard and fast” smut readers--those who like to get straight to the point, get right to business and to the juice! they are also a decently large group too! as for readers who like a nice long fic or a chaptered fic, they are super close in numbers! from this, it’s safe for me to assume that maybe those who like reading longer fics are more inclined to strap in for the long haul with chaptered fics too! 

Favorite AUs to Read 

*the top category that got cut off (thank you google forms lol) is friends to lovers! the one that says “...love” at 48% is enemies to lovers, and the one that has a blanked out title at 35% is strangers to lovers!

~My thoughts: ok ok so this was RAD to see! i often wonder myself the kinds of aus that my readers would like to see so this was really helpful! circling back on how readers tend to favor fluff n’ smut (friends to lovers) and angst n’ smut (enemies to lovers) i think that we’re seeing some more themes here teehee. 

i like to think that since most of us are of the college age, the college au is super relatable therefore we really like to read it! not to mention that college and high school au’s are super duper cute as well! this is also relatable to the roommates/neighbors to lovers category which is also relatable to us who may or may not have experienced having a roommate or crush on the cutie next door ;) as a couple readers mentioned, they liked more “slice of life” au’s--which both of these categories fall into! i think we as readers like scenarios that feel the most real to us, bc they are the easiest to insert ourselves into :) 

fantasy and thriller, action, more “fiction” tropes are in the minority, however i think that this can be for the exact same reason as i mentioned above where readers like more relatable scenarios. 

Opinions on Slow Burn Fics 

~My thoughts: during polling of this category, this pie cart stayed basically the same the whole time!! that was pretty cute to see! the important take aways from this survey for me is the fact that slow burn fics are generally really loved! again, lol as someone who writes big ol’ long slow burn fics this made me feel a lot better hahaha basically, the general consensus is that slow burn fics are welcome most of the time, however some readers might need to invest a little more time into them! this is also very easily comparable to the above statistics on the length of fics preferred (longer ones being the ones more popular) so here’s a lil more supporting evidence!

the reason why i asked this question was because i wanted to see if there was a correlation with biases and if there was a probability that members who had more people biasing them (or popularity I guess) were more likely to be read more in smut fics! AND I WAS RIGHT haha isn’t this so fkn cool??? (see more in the next section!) 

for comparison, i went to kprofiles to see their little survey on bias popularity and their top five.

SO oh my god my nerd brain is loosing it over this REE so, what i should note that is those who took this survey on my blog are likely generally different based off of the fact that they are here to read smut specifically, rather than the general holistic popularity survey. It is for this reason that we see Felix much higher on this list and Changbin much lower too (as we know Felix is really well known generally and globally and there are *generally* fewer Bin biased fans). What was really interesting to see what that with Hyunjin, Chan, Jisung and Minho, they still all stayed within the top five! Soooo what i’m saying is.... all of you Hyunjin, Chan, Jisung and Minho fans really must like your smut 😏 and I think that it’s safe to assume that the majority of hard stans come from these four members too ooP (and of course our Binnie too! ;) i see all of ya’ll 👀) 

Members That Get Our Hornies Going 

~My thoughts: AHH DOESN’T THIS LOOK SO SATISFYING? I’M SO PROUD OF HER!!! 

First off, i would like to acknowledge the all mighty power of Bang Christopher Chan for pooling this most hornies god DAMN while i kind of expected this, it is also evidenced in the fics that i write! recently i’ve been tracking the number of notes that my Chan hard thoughts get in comparison to other members and the differences are usually ASTRONOMICAL. He is most def the most popular member for smut for several different reasons, lowkey bc i think that it’s kind of part of his brand?? hahaha if ya know what i mean? 

As for preference from Minho on, we can see a super obvious trend that as age order decreases, we get less and less interest for reading for the member. I’m fairly inclined to believe that this has to do with the fact that most often fans (especially fans older than skz) have a harder time seeing the younger members in a sexual way, so the lack of interest totally makes sense here! As referenced above too, we found that the oldest five members (Chan --> Jisung) are the favorites for smut reading which we can see here as well when the numbers really drop after Felix (Felix coming in at 6th place on my “popularity” survey). 

Bc of these statistics, i do really feel like as a reader, i tend to see much, much more fics involving our top five! As for Seungmin and Jeongin, I’ve also seen people state that they do not read or write content for these two members bc they do not feel as comfortable, so this can also explain the lack of content. Also as we have heard many times, Jeongin is a bit of a hot topic lol within the SSB community, so this makes sense that his readership would be low as well. 

4. Deep Dive into the Juicy Questions (aka confessions) 

Is the fact that you read smut a seggsy secret? 

~My thoughts: JUICE TIME JUICE TIME 

Before I say anything, i wanted to tell you all how all of the juicy questions were totally optional, but i got 100% participation for every single one of them which if find HILARIOUS i guess you all are just as curious as i am?? ;) 

So! for this question, we have an overwhelming amount of readers who said that only their closest friends know which is so cute to me! i love how we can trust our friends with this hehe. i also fall into this category bc like, it’s lowkey kinda fun to talk about? maybe also the fact that i run a smut acct makes me care a little less about it all hahah 

secondly, we have the rather large group of people who said that they wouldn’t dare to tell anyone which is also sooo cute haha idk how to explain it but this was the category that i started out in too until i found the right people! But i totally get ya, reading smut--especially-- kpop smut-- can be embarrassing or cringey to share (not to mention that it is somewhat morally grey LOL) so this is really understandable! 

also my fkn hats off to all of you who said that you didn’t care about who knows that you read smut. here, you dropped this: 👑 you’re much braver than i could ever be. 

When you read smut, do you really feel the hornies? 

~My thoughts: ok, so this one to me was also very interesting for me to see as well! (also if you get uncomfy reading about personal masturbation habits you can skip this one lol) 

the reason why i asked this question was because i wanted to see if people “get off” by reading smut (whether reading it turns you on, or if you choose to use it for “material” to get off on however this might look, might be more of a mental simulation without any real like, physical getting off) candidly, I use smut to get myself off every once and a while, so i wanted to see who else might be in the same group! since becoming a writer however, i read much less and reading it doesn’t hit the same when i was just a reader bc i have a different perspective of being the one writing the smut so i look at it more analytically--i digress. 

it was exciting (teehee get the pun?) for me to see that others also “get off” on smut too--and that they are the majority! teehee it is an honor for me to provide you with the hornies LOL. at the same time, we still have a large group in the “don’t take to seriously” category which was interesting to me too! i can’t speak for these readers, but i interpreted these kind of readers to be the kind who read smut to imagine the scenes and are like “hm, that’s hot, i like thinking about this.” but it doesn’t extend much outside of these thoughts. 

What is the most popular position pairing we like to read? 

*smaller slices of the pie represent multiple favorites which i also seperated back into the categories corresponding to get the best count into what was the most preferred.

~My thoughts: i feel as if there is a bit of a conflict between which position really is “the best” and while we really can’t know the answer to this question since everyone has different preferences, we can at least find out which one is the most popular to be consumed! 

again, going off of the content that I also see as a reader, i see TONS of dom!idol fics, like, left and right. also, if i may come for all of our necks, 👀 but...there’s really something to be said about the fact that the majority of readers are female and historically and socially, women are typically socialized to be submissive, so i can see why this would be why we would favor this among fics--this is even further evidenced by the fact that male idol smut is also preferred, thus further perpetuating the fact that women have been socialized to be submissive to men specifically. i’m not saying that this is the end all be all reason that this trend is present, but i merely offer it as a possible explaination. this is a much larger sociological conversation, but i think that this trend also showed itself in the types of smut that readers seek out as well--according to demographics. 

sub!idol fics are few and far in-between, and i think that this can also be for the exact same reason as i talked about above! 

When you read smut, do you pick faves to read for? 

~My thoughts: what’s cool about this question is the fact that the “half and half” nature of it also resembles what we saw in the section for favorite members to read! As we see in that chart, 41 out of 100 people said that they read everyone, similar to this question where 48 out of 100 people said that they read for everyone. What this proves to me once more is that when it comes for reading fics, there's a 50/50 chance that the reader will look at, and read it based off of who it is about alone. This is a really powerful statistic, meaning that the members who that a writer might write for really dictates their readership! At the same time, it’s super comforting to know that regardless of what you as a writer might write, there’s always someone out there who is willing to read it! (as evidenced by the 52% of people who read for anyone! this is still a large number) 

Readers: Do you only use Tumblr for smut? 

~My thoughts: when i first started out reading smut, i was in the “i just look up skz smut” group LOL so i wanted to see again if there was anyone like me--which there is! This was more of my interest in seeing if some people view tumblr as “their smut dealer” AHA so that my initial motivation. I was surprised to see that this is not the case! out of 100 readers, 39 of them have their own non-smut blogs and the second largest group of 26 people use tumblr for smut exclusively. 

idk why, but when thinking of this question, it really got me thinking back to the question where i asked if reading smut is a seggsy secret, and there was the group of people who said that it is for them--i’m assuming that these people might be part of the group have non-smut blogs and read on the side teehee. 

at the same time, there is a combined 40 people who said that they use tumblr for smut purposes only which makes sense to me, as those who filled out my survey are readers of my smut blog if you catch my drift haha  

Writers: Do you read smut, or just write it?

~My thoughts: this survey is really really cute for me to see bc it means that there is a whole support network or writers out there reading, supporting and here to hype other writers work!! if anything, as a writer because it takes so much time to write, it can become hard to find time to read, hence the “when i have time option lollll (*cough cough* me LOL) thank you all for your honesty with this question! 

5. General Thoughts and Conclusion 

Survey on Exposure 

~My thoughts: i kinda wanna close off this survey by getting on my soapbox for a sec lol. At least for me, the most common ways that readers found my blog were: looking up a tag, and from a repost. i think that this really goes to show the power of exposure and certain tactics that you can use to increate readership of your account! new readers, if you’re reading this and you’re just starting out, tagging your stuff is so so important! 

also, as i have said and so so, many other content creators have said countless times before, reposting is so crucial and it takes little to no effort to repost a creators work so that it might reach others! as a writers, we spend hours, and i mean hours creating content, editing, drafting, creating headers all out own time to publish something that we are proud of and for you to enjoy! it means the world to authors when you reblog their work and even more when you give feedback too because this is our passion! we write for free in the middle of our busy lives so the validation makes it all worth it!!

you have plenty of people on your team – 5 in athena’s cabin and 5 in apollo’s cabin

some will handle weapons and safety gear, some will handle mapping out the playing area which was basically the entirety of the woods, some will be setting up traps near your team’s flag to prevent others from coming close

30 minutes quickly pass and after dividing the work and planning your strategy with donghyuck and friends you turn your attention back to chiron who has his megaphone in hand

everyone’s told to gather outside the dining hall at the open field before the game commences

you, donghyuck, and your teammates briefly talk strategy once more . just to make sure everybody knows what they’re supposed to do

“let the game begin!” chiron blows a loud whistle and the demigods scramble out of the field, going to their designated flag locations

your spot is near a little creek, but the forest around your flag is quite dense so u figure it’s relatively hard to locate

it’s not that late so the afternoon sun makes your skin glisten with sweat

“damn, can you tell your dad to chill tf out for a while,” you tell donghyuck jokingly

he just rolls his eyes but on the inside he’s kinda glad you’re being casual with him rather than 😡😡😡😡😡 like u normally are

you and donghyuck r in charge of guarding the flag while ur team members scout around for the other flags

you and donghyuck are at your base now, weapons drawn just in case

the flag is hung on a poll couple feet taller than you

you’re dressed in ur usual training clothes – a pair of washed out shorts, a very old orange camp half-blood shirt; your sword’s sheath hanging from one of the belt loops of your shorts

donghyuck’s dressed similarly – a pair of blue ripped jeans, the same orange camp shirt tucked into them, but he has a purple flannel on, which he takes off and ties around his waist

“it’s so freaking hot,” he says, mentally agreeing with the comment u made about apollo earlier

“tell me about it”

there’s a silence that follows, the only sound heard is the subtle flow of the creek water

you’re thankful for the silence

it’s easier to keep an ear open for opponents on their way to steal your flag

just as you think about it, an ares and a hades kid approach your base

they’re on the other side of the creek, less than ten to fifteen feet away

“hi y/n,” the hades kid you’re kind of close to says

you shoot him a fake smile before holding your sword in front of you

donghyuck pulls out an arrow from his quiver and nocks it in his bow, aiming for the two demigods in front of you

the creek isn’t that deep, so the two demigods cross it with ease

they have their weapons drawn; they’re now a couple of feet away from you and more importantly the flag

no words are said as donghyuck lets his arrow fly and knock the hades’ kid sword out of his hands

he didn’t use an arrow with a sharp tip, you note

the hades’ kid stumbles backwards, imbalanced after he gets unarmed

you stand your ground as the ares’ kid scrambles forward, attacking you with her sword

your blades clash defiantly

you continue to spar with all your might

from the corner of your eye you see that the hades’ kid, sword back in hand, is battling donghyuck on your left

the flag is right behind you and donghyuck; you can’t let the two demigods get near it

you and the ares kid are still battling each other, putting all your strength into making sure she surrenders

but u should know better

ares and athena kids have many similarities like their love for winning, their confidence in battle, etc.

it’s like looking in a mirror

you don’t have anything against this particular ares kid, though

“c’mon, y/n, give up already”

that REALLY makes your blood boil

you never give up, no matter what

with one final blow of your sword, you knock her sword out of her hands, making her think she distracted you with her words

she goes flying back, half her body landing in the creek water

her sword lies in between you and her, but you doubt she’ll have the courage to fight again

the hades kid sees this and quickly scrambles away from hyuck, picking up the ares kid’s sword and giving her a hand up

“this is why i hate you and your siblings–your huge ego always gets in the way,” you hear the hades kid grumble to his partner as they run away from you, shame written all over their defeat

hyuck laughs and wipes sweat from his forehead

you can’t help but laugh either

you love it here at 🧡 camp half-blood 🧡

a few moments pass as your teammates emerge from the dense woods, each pair with a different colour flag held between them

you smile in victory

you quickly bring down your flag from its pole and give it to hyuck

“me? it was your plan…”

“yeah, but i couldn’t have done it without you, hyuck”

he almost passes out at your choice of nickname

back at the main hall, chiron announces your team as the winner, and that the prize yall being excused from doing chores all week long!!!!

it’s not much, but hey, at least you and hyuck ended up working together and winning the game, right?

later, hyuck pulls you aside from your cabin mates, and walks you to the lakeside

you two sit at the deck, side by side, watching the water doing nothing in particular

you watch as hyuck swings his feet lightly, his toes barely touching the water

“y/n, do you hate me?” donghyuck asks out of the blue

you’re like 😳 what

now that he asks you that . like straight up . it makes u think

or do u just hate losing to him

he takes a deep breath

“i know we started going against one another ‘cause of that one time my cabin won capture the flag, but i don’t want things to stay this way,” he pushes his hair back

“yeah,” he says, as if more convinced now, “and i would really like to get to know you better,” he clears his throat, very clearly embarrassed

you laugh at his flustered state

“stop laughing at me,” he stretches the last syllable as he lightly shoves you with his shoulder

you’re trying even harder to not laugh now, but for his sake, you hold it in

Hey Imane! Quick question, but I assume these must be quite boring for you so of course feel free to ignore if you're done with the topic in general. What did you do for your bachelor's and master's? How much did you enjoy each one of them, and how useful did you find them in the sense of how well do you feel they prepared you for the job market in general, and then specifically for the future jobs that you ended up doing?

hi babe! no worries quick and boring questions are my faves lmao. officially i graduated with a bachelor’s degree in applied communications with a major in public relations and a minor in journalism, and with a master’s degree in public relations with a specialisation in european politics and affairs. i’d say it gave me opportunities to be as prepared as possible but because it was such a hands-on programme, what you focused on depended largely on yourself and your capacity to multitask/use different tools. i enjoyed my bachelor’s programme because it offered a very broad selection of classes (all of them mandatory + one elective which i did in documentary film making) so i have a relatively good knowledge basis in sociology, social psychology & psychoanalysis, economy and so on. like for every possible major that one could go to for university (besides hard sciences) we had at least one class focusing on it and giving us an overview of the field. i also had lots of theoretical comms-related classes (photography, film making, graphic design, etc) so all in all i appreciated how thorough the programme was. my fave classes might have been contemporary history and international politics bc they were given by a communist professor teehee. for my master’s the load was lighter in terms of theory bc projects were more important but i really liked these classes, especially on my second year. 

did it prepare me well? i’d say i prepared myself well lmao every year i’d focus on a different medium to master to be all-rounded and present myself as a candidate with added value due to my wide variety of hard skills. my biggest obstacle was that i didn’t believe in myself and that made me waste a bit of time after i graduated, but i’ve definitely hit my stride. i liked that i chose to go into a more politically charged specialisation because i believe my profs did a good job at letting us develop our critical thinking skills and i’m in contact with some of them (now retired) which is quite nice. it prepared me relatively well but that’s because i went into college wanting to make the most of it and making sure i was putting time into really learning stuff and not just coasting. after graduation i learned more about myself than i ever did in college and i’m grateful for each experience. i’m a lot more confident now and i can see that everything i learned was valuable, even the most boring/odd classes (linguistics...).

now was it all fun? lmao hell no i pulled so many all-nighters working in studios for projects and the workload was insane. i wasn’t well mentally and i often hit rock-bottom when i was in uni. but looking back on it i’m happy with where it led me. as far as being prepared for the job market is concerned, your academic background sure helps, but where i work my school name has no weight so i have to present well and work on my diplomatic skills, which isn’t something my college prepared me for. but life is about learning on the spot :-) also my classmates and i ended up doing a really wide variety of jobs so it truly shows that while it is versatile, your post-college experience is mostly what you make of it and what you choose to focus on. i’d hate to work as an account manager in a PR agency and i hated every single minute of my marketing coordinator stint last year but a lot of my friends work in these fields and love it so my personal experience isn’t the full spectrum of what could happen once you enter the job searching market with a degree like mine

anyways i feel like i’ve lost myself in 2000000 tangents also i took 20 minutes to write all of this (that’s on me though) so i’m gonna stop there and continue playing animal crossing lmao muchos besos

I just remember being super intimidated by you. But then I started hanging out in your circles because I had a few buddies there and had some wonderful interactions with you. Interactions that would last through the years as we both grew our stable of OC’s and started throwing the newer ones together, or mixing and matching. Your RP hook is one of my faves, even if its super specific. And it’s always a joy to watch your process in the more mystic stuff.

But besides that? You’re a pretty amazing individual. I was honestly really surprised to hear how much responsibility you shouldered. in which i attempt to explain the ending of samurai jack

if anyone feels bad about “o my fave died” or “that makes no sense” or whatever, maybe this will help u.

SO….there are a few things that I want to say, in general. I’m sorry if this is written weird, I’ve been up since 645 a.m. and work was tiring as fuck and everything happens so much. It’s also 1 a.m. now.

under a cut because SPOILERS

First, let’s just get this out there, since it’s the most important:

Genndy himself mentioned and confirmed ALTERNATE TIMELINES in the Q&A.

Of course the ending was  “Jack goes back and kills Aku but Ashi can’t exist if Aku doesn’t so she fades away”. BUT, there is still a paradox: Jack remembers Ashi, and the timeline he just spent the last 50 years in. It was not erased.

Jack, by going back to the past and destroying Aku, created a new timeline that will proceed normally, without the influence of Aku.

However, in the timeline that Jack created, Ashi cannot exist, because Aku does not exist.

She’s essentially killed, but she DID exist, because Jack couldn’t have made it back to the past without her. Yet in the timeline Jack created, she’d never be born. Ashi ended up in the one timeline where she cannot exist. B U M M E R sucks 2 be ashi lmao

ANYWAY. FOR MY FELLOW DAUGHTERS OF AKU:

There’s something very nice about this ending.

Aku was not killed before Ashi took Jack back to the past, and Jack took the sword with him.

Aku now exists in a timeline where he can continue living as he did before Jack arrived in the future, without having to worry about Jack coming after him anymore.

Jack’s story ends happily; he’s made it back to the past, defeated Aku, and can live the life he was supposed to live.

Aku’s story also ends happily; he can continue living in his world, free from the menace of the foolish samurai.

Coming back to the Q&A: This is what Genndy meant when he said “Is it Jack’s ending, or Aku’s ending? I think that’s an interesting way of looking at it.”

Season 5 was Jack’s ending, obviously, because he’s the protagonist.

Which means Season 5 is not Aku’s ending.

Which means Aku’s story continues.

Season 5 gives us a very interesting argument for Akudemption, which is Ashi.

Ashi destroys the idea that Aku is physically, literally made of pure evil.

Ashi was conceived from the essence of Aku, and a woman who is even more evil than Aku.

Ashi was not raised with any kind of love or compassion; quite the opposite. She and her sisters endured serious physical, mental, and emotional abuse, probably from the day they were born. They poured their existence, their hearts and souls, into what they were told was their cause. They had no control over their destiny, because they didn’t think any alternative existed.

Yet, they aren’t really “evil” at all; just misguided.

At first Ashi is confused and disgusted by affection, because she doesn’t understand it. However, once she meets someone with the patience and power to deal with her long enough to get through to her, she begins to understand. She has to come to the conclusion herself, but she couldn’t have done that without Jack.

Finally we have the scene from episode 5. The first time Ashi’s “Aku” comes out.

It’s not just that she had been used as a child in a similar way…. The Aku part of her was enraged enough to activate; you can actually see Aku in her face. Remember that not even Aku tortures children, and is actually very patient and careful with them--which is what proves the High Priestess to be more evil than Aku. And if Ashi and her sisters are literally just clones of their mother imbued with Aku’s essence, any humanity or capacity for kindness and love...definitely didn’t come from mom.

I also think this is significant because Ashi becomes extremely protective of the person who “saves” her and shows her the light, despite spending her life training to kill him. She abandons what was previously her sole purpose to embrace the exact opposite, because of one person who took the time to help her. Really makes you wonder if her dad is the same way. Teehee.

Anyway I've been bonding with Ashley Sarah and before the vote she told me that Logan is friends with Daisy and stuff. Hmm Logan is becoming a bit dangerous for my taste, I'm still weary on that alliance that Tyler suspects of Logan, Nick and Dom. Now in my previous confessional I mentioned how I wanted to work with Zack, but now... I kinda don't wanna?? Idk after composing myself a little I feel frightened by him plus he turned his status on skype to "away" just because I talk to much? asdfghjk buddy if you wanna stop talking then come up with a lie, jeez that's what I would do. So right now I've just been quiet today since I've gotten self-conscious lol.

So we're doing a music video and I'm quite excited on how this turn out. The song were doing is something from Eurovision which I don't know what that is but I just went along because I've got nothing better to suggest, unless if this tribe was packed with otaku's I'd probably go at it. I'm now on the Monte Rosa tribe! Since coming back from Exile Island a few people have asked me "what happened" which is code for "did you find an idol?" and like...I don't think these people realise that the idol clues are literally relevant to the challenges HOW am I supposed to have gotten an idol when I couldn't do the challenge on Exile. It makes me laugh that these people apparently don't realise that but oh well. This tribe is pretty cool, I feel well connected so hopefully it goes well for me. Daisy spilled her guts to me about how Logan betrayed her at the last vote and lied to her so I know I have Daisy in my pocket again. Logan and Nick are obviously working together but Logan would more than likely choose me over Nick so I'm cool with that. Renee doesn't really speak to anybody but I know that Zack would expect me to look out for her so I'm going to do that as best as I can. Zack and Renee will be trouble if they meet up again so it might be time to take Renee out sooner so I'm conflicted about what to do. I'm Abel's only friend so THAT'S fun, he trusts me a lot. Benjamin and Lily are from OG Monte Rosa but I think they'd work with me if push came to shove.

My Tatzelwurm and I are doing well, we love that we got a round to sit and do nothing but I need to survive 2 more rounds until it can hatch and help me win this game.

The dreaded music video comp ugh how I feel right about now

I'm super nervous about this tribal. I feel like there's another swap coming up after this round or the next one. I need to start talking to people more but like I have a gut feeling that people are going to want me out. If anything they should want out Tyler for not doing... anything.

ok so i talked to zack and he doesn't have an idol. or so he says. it'd be stupid to not tell me because im literally trying to save him. but i know that i need to keep my mouth shut because this is literally the same situation that happened last time. i really want to work with zack and jev but at the same time, I'm here to win. I'm trying to beat my old placement. God i hope we just fucking win this immunity challenge.

whew... I really hope our music video wins? I'm not entirely too confident in my position in the game at the moment, even if I do have some loyal allies. And plus, this kinda scenario was what killed me in Solomon, so I don't wanna deal with the same scenario again, but just slightly further into the game.

by planting a seed of doubt by telling them zack or jev has an idol

ashleysarah max and tyler vote for zack

But Ashley sarah and I don't actually vote for either of them, instead we vote for Max/Brett making the vote 4-2-2

but that would take a lot of work and convincing

Daisy's fake ass pretending to talk game to me when she throws me under the bus to everyone here. Our conversations go nowhere bc she talks in circles and won't ever be straight up. Also her handwriting is ugly. Flop ass flop.

Ugh! This game man. I just can't wait until it's all done and I never have to talk to these people again!

Ok, so Abel, Renee, Logan, Ben, and myself blindsided Trent last round... I am really glad it worked because it hopefully means that we should have a majority going into this round. Immunity is this ugly ass music video challenge... so I record me doing the entire fucking excruciating lipsync and then Logan forgets to edit me in the video :( I am not gunna hold it against him because he def put a ton of work into editing but I was really made. Since I lied to Daisy and Lily last round I had to mend some bridges this round. I try and tell Daisy that Logan and I were looking out for her because it was either Trent or her. Also I really want to have those bonds, especially with Lily down the road... you never want somebody in the game who will never work with you. So we lose immunity AGAIN and end our asses back at tribal council :/ I think this should be a fairly simple vote because we can just vote out Daisy for being a crazy ass messy player who legit throws names out the wazoo whenever we lose an immunity competition. However, I have this sneaking feeling that somebody might be trying to pull a blindside TM tonight, maybe Luke? I just hope im not the target of get blindsided... I think i have been playing a very lowkey game upto now, not the traditional crazy antics of my other ORGs, sure I have generally good connections with all my tribe mates, but I dont think thats enough to land my torch in the snuffer for a couple of rounds. I think this game has bigger fish to fry before I get served with a side of tartar sauce.

The time is here. I finally get to face Daisy in the face. The one who's been backstabbing me behind my back. This ends tonight. With hopefully...her blood...on these hands.

Honestly I'm probably going home but if I don't I need to CHILL OUT. Too many people are coming to me for plans with votes and I'm not here for it. I don't want to be seen as someone calling the shots, regardless if I am or not.

WHEW I WAS LOOKING AT THE WIKI AND ORIGINAL MATTERHORN IS TRULY IN SOME HOT WATER. 4 of us have already gone home and tonight it's looking like a 5th may be leaving so AHHHHHHHHH I brought it up to Renee and she was shook so. Whew.

I've been approached with two different plans tonight. One plan is to vote out Daisy and the other is to vote out Abel. I think I'm leaning more toward where the numbers are tonight and voting out Daisy. It's great for my game because people think she has the advantage (teehee) and she's also paranoid and doesn't trust me 100% so.

I'm predicting the vote tonight to be:

Abel - Lily, Daisy

Daisy - Luke, Abel, Renee, Nick, Logan

and Benjamin is in a gray area right now because nobody knows what he wants to do. I'm hoping this goes right because I'd be 4/4 for voting in the majority and controlling the vote teehee

So I'm now in an alliance with Ashley, Tyler and Brett!! Woo my faves!! Right now we're trying to figure out if there's indeed a GIANT pre-made alliance in this game. Ugh pre-mades... Anyway we think that Logan is the one running it and he has his hands on Nick, Dom, Daisy, Lily and Luke. That's dangerous as hell and if there is a pre-made well it needs to be killed like right now!!

So it seems like tonight it's either me or Abel. Daisy vs. Abel: The Showdown! Basically, I thought I had my numbers for Abel. I had me, Luke, Nick, and Lily and all I needed was Logan or Ben to have that majority. Ben's not answering me, so I talk to Logan and tell him to just be honest with me and tell me whether he's voting with me or not. He says he doesn't know yet, but it might be me tonight and he thinks people are lying. Which means that he's now gonna try to figure out what the majority actually is, and he might vote with me he might not. Ben gets back to me and says he's heard Abel. And right now I'm confident about Lily voting with me, maybe Ben because it seems like he's been busy. But I'm nervous about Nick and Luke. Luke is trying to comfort me and reassure me everything will be fine, and I can't tell if this is similar to when he would reassure me when I was just being overly paranoid, or if this is similar to when he reassured me that Abel was going home pre swap. Also I've barely talked to Nick, and he totally lied to me last round. So he could easily be lying again. Apparently Renee is voting for Abel too? Which shocks because I was told that they're a pair. I don't know, maybe she's just trying to make sure she doesn't get votes again. Or maybe she's not actually voting for Abel. I have no idea. I'm just scared, and I feel like anything could happen tonight. I hate going into tribal feeling like I have no idea how the votes are gonna fall. It's nerve wracking.

EPISODE 5

Now Trent's gone. Great. Literally the only two people I was excited to play with have already been gunned down and I didn't get to share so much as a hello with them. It's rather depressing. I'm going to do everything in my power while I am in this game to avenge both Keegan and Trent. The good news is that with so many of original Matterhorn destroying one another, we are now up 10-6 and now I only have 6 people left on my kill list.

There has been a lot of speculation as to how original Matterhorn's hierarchy was. The first two votes were unanimous, but in the tribal council in which Ci'ere was voted out, three votes were cast against Abel. Ci'ere was the first, obviously, and I'm thinking at this point that Trent was the second--and likely the reason original Matterhorn didn't attempt to draw him in when they were swapped an even 4-4. Now it's just a matter of figuring out the third vote. Furthermore, there were three votes against Renee, leaving two players in the minority of last night's vote. Did all of original Monte Rosa and Renee vote out Trent? Or were there fractures among Monte Rosa's votes? There's a lot more uncertainty about where you actually stand in the game when you haven't attended a tribal council. I'm really curious how everything is going to unfold.

The challenge was uh...it was a god damn music video. Shoot me in the face. I immediately volunteered to sit out only to face the revelation that Luke was on Exile and had now joined the new Monte Rosa, so we were EVEN and I couldn't fucking sit out! After pushing host Amanda into a vat of monoxide, I relaxed and was able to focus on the win.

How Music Video Challenges USUALLY Go:

1. Literally everyone has different awful taste in music and pushes for something they like to be the song of choice.

2. No one agrees on anything.

3. No one wants to be the editor (and can you blame them?)

4. 7/8 people begrudgingly learn a song they don't care for and roll their eyes through their entire recordings.

5. Shitty de facto editor puts together a slapstick, shoddy video.

6. The judges brutalize.

How Music Video Challenges SHOULD Go:

1. First establish the editor. Without an editor, you don't have anything--this is the most important step to the entire thing and really should be the only thing considered at the beginning.

2. You let the editor pick whatever fucking song they want and you shut the fuck up about how much you hate it for the sake of unity and in gratitude that you're not stuck with editing said video.

3. You film your scenes enthusiastically.

4. The editor, who has gotten their way with song choice and everyone has treated with a modicum of respect, is passionate about editing said video and puts together something actually passable.

5. The judges only brutalize slightly.

I want the above steps to be circulated to literally everyone who will ever play Tumblr Survivor or any similarly formatted series because I feel like people don't understand this formula and will continue to make asshats of themselves because of it.

So Maximilian stepped up to be the editor and that was the first time since this game has started that I've ever appreciated Max. Max fucked up in the scavenger hunt. Max was useless in endurance tasks. Max has just been generally useless. So the fact that Max stepped up to be editor, a major key role in this challenge--all the respect in the world. I could not be more grateful to Max for this. Max chose a rather annoying song by a Swiss artist, but it was a good song choice because if you're like me and don't want to learn the words to an annoying song, there is a lot of instrumentation and whistling in Sebalter's "Hunter of Stars." I did find it funny that Max chose a song with chorus lyrics: "Want me to go 'cause you think I'm lying." It's not lost on me.

I told the team that it would be cute if we were to all wear red/white in coordination with the colors on Switzerland's flag. I don't recall how many of these goobers actually complied with that, but for me, I had a blast with it. I remembered that my Harley Quinn shirt that was a part of my Halloween costume is those colors and it struck me that it would be fun to dress as Harley and have the baseball bat as a prop. In my first take, I attempted to fake-hit my phone with the bat, but I actually ended up hitting it dead on and I bashed my own phone! It made for a very funny music video closer and an excellent gif, but that was not my intention! Zack made the gif and I love it so much. I told Zack, "You are my favorite Matterhorndog." The rest of the scenes went much easier and I used an umbrella and a pinata in addition to the baseball bat as props. The following day, I learned that Tyler Fennessy was unable to participate and I printed out his picture and shot another whistling scene while I was at work, in my suit, at my hotel's lakeside patio.

All in all, Max edited a really fantastic video and they killed their scenes as well--the lip synching and violin playing as on point. I think my scenes were great and Ian was a terrific dancer and lip syncher as well. It was a brilliant team effort.

Can we talk about Monte Rosa's video for a second? Yikes. Renee was so cute and animated and I feel like I would really like her personality--that is all of the positive critique I have on that video. The guys were all terrible. Lily was terrible. Daisy...she really needs to reconsider her lipstick. I've gotta say. She looked like an extra from Glee. Logan's interpretive dance was ridiculous, but he has a pretty smile. The whole thing was an utter mess. And I feel Logan's pain. Finding someone to edit the video SUCKS. And if Logan had been voted out, I would have been pissed on his behalf. As far as I'm concerned, if you step up to be editor, especially if it's because no one else can be bothered, you are IMMUNE from being voted out. The loss cannot be put on you. So points to Logan for actually doing things and points to Renee for being cute.

The original Monte Rosa members on New Matterhorn are now 5-0 in challenge wins. Ashley Sarah, Dom, Ian, Maximilian, Tyler, and myself have never had to attend a tribal council in the first five rounds of the game. It's kind of awesome, but not being involved in votes really makes it difficult to cement bonds. Tyler finally got around to pitching the idea of an alliance to Ashley Sarah and now we are an alliance of four with Ian rounding out the squad.

A few things were discussed in this new alliance of four, titled "H4rmony" (I hate the name, but I don't care):

1. Ian believes Lily was one of the two who didn't vote out Trent last round due to a voting confessional that looks like something Lily's said before.

2. Zack has allegedly told Ian and Tyler that he believes Ashley Sarah has a hidden immunity idol--it makes us believe that he is actually in possession of one. That and/or the huge advantage that came with throwing the endurance tasks challenge.

3. No one trust Logan.

4. We want to keep a line of communication open with Jevvon as a potential wild card.

5. According to Tyler, Zack claims Dom has approached him about having an alliance including Dom, Tyler, Zack, and Ashley Sarah.

6. Everyone seems to have something going on with someone except for Maximilian. Because of this, I volunteered to speak with them to see where their head is at.

So I went and talked to Maximilian and conversation literally could not have gone worse. Max was already someone I found it very difficult to talk to and this conversation just made that concrete. Conversing with this loser is EXCRUCIATING. It is so bad. Max has this air that asserts their intelligence is higher than others (but with no actual credentials to speak of). And they're just so standoffish that I left the whole conversation feeling super uncomfortable. My strategy in speaking to them was to start with pleasantries and then ease into how never losing a challenge has lulled me into a sense of security I shouldn't have and I've found it difficult approaching people because I've been warned about a massive pre-made that exists (that last part actually is the truth).

HIGHLIGHTS

Max: "I've gotten to a point with this community where shouting about premades is a surefire way to get me to vote you out the next round, to be honest."

Me: Yikes. Well you can write down whichever name you like, Max."

Max: Not threatening you. It's just the pattern I've developed."

LITERALLY WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? Who fucking says that? Jesus Christ that was so uncomfortable. This asshat is non-committal and wants to just sit on their ass while this whole game happens around them. You do you, Max. But you know what's not good game? Not playing ball with someone attempting to play ball with you for no apparent reason. Zack might very well have an advantage or an idol to use if we lose the next challenge. I have a simple solution and Tyler agrees with me completely: play up that we are splitting the votes between Jevvon and Zack (3-3-2), forcing Zack's hand in using their advantage/idol, but actually voting out Maximilian, someone no one will be playing an idol on (4-2-2 or 4-2-1-1 or some variation of that). Even though I'm a Neda in nature, the Ika Wong can and will come out from time to time. And I'll take a shot at this guy when he least expects it. And I won't miss.
