#Sunstar: She is saying it is raining.

hello! How are you doing? Feeling any better since you caught that cold? This ask is gonna be about Sunstar mainly so I’m gonna split this up into different parts based on the questions. Knowing that Duo attacked and badly injured him I’m curious as to why? Was it cause of the bad emotions that he gave off and effected the other stardroids? Or just a chance encounter that didn’t go well? And does he just stay at one NEC or does he get the other one?
Emotions and relationship wise: Does the NEC still effect his emotions or are they more apparent then before because he only has one of the NEC he had originally? Does this change his behavior in anyway than what he was like originally? Especially his relationship with Terra and Minx(the last ask with his and Does he have any other relationships with the stardroids or know any Navis?
knowing that he’s the leader of the stardroids what does he do exactly?
with his ability being effected by emotions which sorts of emotions cause a increase in heat? Excitement, love, anger, etc. and just an angsty thought that came up has he ever out of instinct tried to grab someone out of panic or reflex and ended up burning them instead? (I assume he’s very careful but the concept of it happening to anyone(Minx, Terra, stardroid) is just a curiosity)
I hope you’re doing well! Have a good day/night! Thank you
I'm doing much better now, thank you! I don't get sick often, so I was a bit caught off-guard, but it also happened right before break when a bunch of assignments were nearing their deadlines.
Hopefully I'll be able to dedicate way more time to shoveling out Brainrot AU stuff now.
This is a long one! I'll post my answers below the cut.
Why did Duo attack?
There’s a lot of lore for Duo in my AU, but I'm gonna try to simplify it here.
It’s canon in the MMBN anime that Duo began to see his creators and their civilization as evil, and that he eventually destroyed all life on Earth during that time before leaving on a rocket that mimics the appearance of a comet (which is powered by Negative Energy).
In my AU, he sees all NEC-Navis as inherently “evil.”
He uses this comet to approach sources of “evil,” and gives any intelligent life he comes across a “test” to determine whether or not they as a whole are evil and should be destroyed. This also means that Sunstar and the Stardroids are always on his radar. They have clashed several times.
Duo is the first and only Viren Navi with 5 GV-Crystals in his body, and Sunstar only absorbed the extra 3 NE crystals in his body to stand a chance against Duo when no other NE-Navi could. Unfortunately, he had no idea the consequences would be so dire, and was too far gone to stop by the time he realized.
Does he just stay at one NEC?
No. Sunstar is reduced to one NEC after Duo’s attack, but he does eventually regain up to 4 out of the 5 total.
The stardroids secure the two that go into his forearms before arriving to Earth.
Terra obtains the fourth, one of his original two that go in his chest, from Ra Moon after the Stardroids arrive on New Earth.
Minx finds the 5th later..but that’s not important right now =)
Sunstar was never ”woken up” after the attack from Duo until Terra restored his other original NEC from Ra Moon inside his chest. All the Stardroids knew of the possible side effects from either losing or receiving damage to an Energy Crystal: there had been plenty of personal and historical references to use.
Had they activated him with one NEC, Sunstar would have been missing a huge chunk of his memories. In addition to this, he would have felt his emotions with an all-new intensity that he was unfamiliar with. Think of a usually calm and intimidating individual getting reduced to tears on a regular basis or verbally lashing out after an insult that wouldn’t have normally phased him. Positive side effects would be a temporarily clear mind and non-firey hands, but the downsides outweighed them tenfold.
The change would definitely put a strain on his relationships. It’d be like having to learn about a person all over again.
What are his relationships?
Most Earth Navis Sunstar is familiar with he has met through/with Minx when he was still “Ra Moon.” He couldn’t/wouldn’t make many friends for several reasons, but some notable cases include:
Napalmman: Both love to talk about their respective netops (Nenji/Minx), and their shared love for explosions and anything fire-related. Friend!
Also occasionally talks with some coworker Navis Napalmman is friends with.
Sprout: Carson’s hilariously underwhelming but overpowered normalnavi. Carson is one of Minx’s older brothers, and due to plot reasons, Sprout is the only other Navi Ra Moon would see occasionally when Minx was a child.
Shadowman: Frenemies. He and Miyabi tried kidnapping him several times at one point, and Ra Moon loves to tease/annoy him whenever he gets the chance.
Shademan: Hate. Can and will fight on sight.
Forte/Bass: Sympathetic, but best to avoid. His relationship with Dr. Cossack (manga-based) is semi-mirrored by his relationship with Minx.
As for the other Stardroids…I hate to admit I have not thought of many specific interactions between Sunstar and all of them. This is the perfect opportunity to brainstorm though! Hmm..
Saturn would likely be chilly to Sunstar given his crush on Terra. Sunstar would probably dislike his poor work ethic and pull the occasional prank on him.
Venus looks up to him, and while Sunstar finds her adorable, he regularly gives her physically harder tasks (like leading training sessions) to satiate her pride.
Sunstar is practically the only one who interacts with Mars–they both have a mutual understanding of the other, as each were deemed “monsters” by the Viren civilization. I wouldn’t describe them as friends, though.
Mercury annoys him to hell and back and Sunstar does his best to station Mercury as far away from himself as possible.
Jupiter is one of the only Stardroids who will actively seek out Sunstar without going through Terra first. He has a deep respect for Sunstar’s strength, and finds him less intimidating due to his friendship with Uranus.
Uranus is terrified of Sunstar but plays it off with bravado by challenging him to fights. He has yet to win.
Sunstar likes Pluto and Jupiter maybe the most due to their sort-of friendship with Terra. Also, because Sunstar is absolutely a cat person.
I’ll need to think further on some of the other ones.
Tumblr media
What does he do?
Sunstar was created to serve as a symbol of protection for Virens, but more importantly for NEC Navis. He shadowed Terra for three major things:
How to lead as a representative for NEC Navi’s
How to observe and deal with hostile rival alien civilizations that may pose a threat to specific Viren settlements
How to prevent and manage NE-Navi-related disputes while striving for a positive social image
Admittedly, Sunstar shadowed Terra for a majority of his time after being created. He very rarely acted without first consulting or collaborating with Terra first. Terra had both more knowledge and experience than him, but he also commanded more trust and respect from the population and other Viren leaders/council members.
Before Duo mutinied against the Viren civilization on Earth, Sunstar wanted to implement at least two policies/practices:
Raising awareness of and liquidating misinformation surrounding the nature of Negative Energy Crystals and NE-Navis.
The removal of exclusively positive or negative energy crystals.
He had proof it was possible for a hybrid design.
Now, though?
His ship is stranded on Earth with Duo no doubt closing in. The civilization that he was responsible for previously before is dead. The only thing he can do is try to protect the life he has secured on New Earth with friends and family, new and old.
--
After reawakening with 4 NECs, Sunstar proceeds to lose the 2 in his forearms during a battle on Earth soon after re-arriving. They get shattered in the heat of the battle, and a decent chunk of Arc 2 is spent hunting down the shards before Duo can arrive.
What emotions cause an increase in heat?
Emotions like anger, fear, sadness, or any combination of those that can leave him feeling overwhelmed. Again, Sunstar’s emotions are more muted than regular NE-Navis, given he has two NECs. That means whatever he’s feeling has to be pretty intense for it to affect him so deeply, but he is most prone to anger out of any other ‘provocative’ emotion.
Also! He kind of hates how his hands can be a “tell” for him. He may have a stoic persona, but there’s only so much you can hide behind an empty stare, or later, a mask, without your furiously flaming hands giving you away.
Has he burned someone accidentally?
Grabbing and shaking you. I love your brain. He absolutely has.
It doesn’t happen often anymore, not like when he was first created, but my god does it devastate him when it does. He knows what happens when he touches things: they burn. He can’t help but ask himself, why does he still slip up? He knows his loved ones know it is never out of malice, that it’s an accident, that they forgive him, but he finds it hard to forgive himself.
It’s safe to say Sunstar has accidentally burned nearly all of the Stardroids at least once. For specific people, though?
Uranus: weirdly enough he wants to fight Sunstar hand-to-hand. Close combat is his forte, and he wants to prove he’s strong enough to push through and kind of foe–or pain.
Mercury: he is absolutely enough of an annoying bastard for Sunstar to chase him down on several occasions until he either hands over whatever he has stolen from another Stardroid, apologizes to whoever he pissed off, or mans his station.
Terra: multiple times back on Viren Earth. A few scenarios:
Sunstar grabbing Terra by the shoulders to protect him from falling debris
Sunstar accidentally burned Terra when the latter passed him something by hand.
Without thinking, Sunstar tried holding Terra’s hand during a wholesome moment for both.
Minx: (so far) twice.
Minx tried holding his hand, thoughtlessly.
Sunstar grabbed and pulled Minx by the arm to prevent her from wandering into oncoming traffic at night.
He always apologizes profusely, but has a bad habit of isolating himself for hours and sometimes days afterwards.

He was apologizing for months afterwards.

This is a bit of a vague, broad request (so sorry about that!) but do you have any more info on the Dappletail extended family that hasn’t made it to our ears yet? Any masterposts about them or about individual cats like Darkstripe? I loved the Cricketclaw post a lot and I’d love to see more of these complicated goobers!
Sure! But it won't be comprehensive-- I need to make them a whole post like I did for the Dragonkin family over in RiverClan.
I've been calling them Dapplekin lately, but if we zoom out a little further, I've been calling the whole family the "Tawnyrain" line. I think we could call them Rainkin for the example here.
The Rainkin family descends from Rainfur and Tawnyspots. Tawnyspots is now the FATHER of Dappletail and Thrushpelt, bringing him in line with the statement that he was an old deputy when he retired.
Tawnyspots was an old friend of Sunstar. I imagine he also had a ton of apprentices, he was a responsible and nurturing kind of guy.
Rainfur was gorgeous. She was light golden with those lighter "dapple" stripes you see in Dappletail and her kits.
She is also where the humor came from. She loved the CORNIEST jokes. For some reason I just find it very funny that every cat in BB whose prefix is "Rain" gets a sense of humor.
Tawnyspots: "Hey Rainfur!! What did the tired honeysuckle say to the oak? Leaf me alone I'm bushed!"
Rainfur: (WHEEEEEZE)
The family gets the mane from Tawnyspots.
They were just NICE people, y'know? I think Bluestar looks back at them fondly, they were like the super sweet neighbors in the apartment next to you who would bring over extra food in old, stained tupperware.
And that extended to their kids. Dappletail and Thrushpelt are extremely meaningful to Bluestar, the both of them are sweet as overripe blackberries.
Dappletail has a really BAD case of resting bitchface. I channel a bond villain when I draw her or think of her voice.
She loves telling stories and explaining things, because she is good at it.
When Ravenkit and Dustkit's mother died and their uncle was extremely sick, and she'd just lost Featherkit and Darkstripe skeddadled with Graykit, she looked after them.
I think Ravenpaw's love of storytelling comes from her. Unfortunately though, she gave him a great power, as a kid he had a bad habit of Making Shit Up.
It definitely comes from Dappletail, who never says "I don't know." She will hypothesize, speculate, and seek answers, but doesn't use idk.
"Dappletail, where is the tunnelbun?"
"I saw it last shift, Graystripe had it. He probably took it."
Her kits all actually have the same biofather. I don't know who it is though, I imagine she met him after Rosetail told her a secret story about her honor sire in Chelford, but it might be a Clan cat. But he's monochrome gray; all of her kits are the same color as him.
THRUSHPELT meanwhile, ALSO a ball of sunshine,
I wrote a joke about him saying howdy ONCE and it became a core memory. Guy who says howdy.
Thistleclaw: "THIS IS ENGLAND WHY ARE YOU SAYING HOWDYYYY"
"Well howdy doody thistleclaw"
"AUUUGH"
He definitely says Hello in some weird way. Guy who answers the phone with Yellow. Man who says shucks unironically
And then surprises you by being one of ThunderClan's strongest fighters. If you swear in his good Christian Minecraft server he'll fucking gut you
Dappletail is not the stronger twin. Thushpelt is as thick as a twig but you get in a fight with him and you hear Dark Souls
That's part of why Bluestar could never allow ThunderClan to get taken over by Thistleclaw. The strongest fighter... goes on the front lines.
Moonflower was the strongest fighter too, once.
Unlike Dappletail, Thrushpelt also never needed to know the full story. Bluemoon ADORED him. If she was ever about to overshare for his sake, with the thought that he deserved to know, he would stop her.
"If I should know it, I will learn it in StarClan."
When Bluestar picked her first deputy, she knew it had to be him.
And he was a fantastic deputy, and a great uncle. Super supportive guy, calls you Sport and ruffles your mullet.
He got taken out a few weeks after Featherkit, which was devastating to Dappletail. She is comforted, however, by the idea that Thrushpelt can look after her.
I got into Cricketclaw and Darkstripe recently so I'll try not to repeat too much
Cricket and Dapple were actually extremely upset that Graystripe halted the fight over his kits.
Cricketclaw especially, she doesn't give a shit about Crookedstar and his sadness, she would have invited him to Cry About It, "MY nespring"
Dapple is 50% more diplomatic; "Silverstream is gone. Stormkit and Featherkit's family is here."
Feathertail's name makes them both Emotional, she actually has a tail pattern a lot like Dappletail's
On that note, yeah. They both did not want Featherpaw and Stormpaw to go back. They were both actually pretty upset about it
Cricketclaw got in a FIGHT with Mistyfoot for saying they could go home
How dare you even SUGGEST that actually, go back to the Clan that WANTED TO EXECUTE THEM???
I don't think Cricket could compose herself enough to say goodbye, and she was FURIOUS at Featherpaw for taking the offer. Her final words to them was probably just at Stormpaw alone;
"Don't let your sister decide your whole life for you. You'll always be OUR family."
I don't think Stormpaw actually appreciated it much. Stop making this harder! I know this is a bad idea! I have to be there for Featherpaw when this shit all goes south, god damn it!!
Dappletail and Graystripe are sad but supportive of the twins' choice. Cricketclaw is maaaad
And Stormfur and Feathertail... man
Feathertail sees the good in everything, to a fault. She believes it will all work out if we stick together, and that everything that happens is meant to be.
Stormfur does not agree
He watched his whole ass mentor get wasted, PARTIALLY by his uncle.
He saw people he thought where his friends watch his execution, some curious, some cheerful. All of them just watching.
People don't die clean. His blood didn't anoint the earth, it just gushed and choked. There's no such thing as a noble murder
Everyone rejects the Dishonor Title they gave Stonefur, saying that Tigerstar was not ordained by StarClan.
Stormfur doesn't see how that matters. The stars watched, too.
It was Deerfoot, Swansong, Jaggedtooth, Wetfoot, Mosspelt, and others who saved him... and it was normal cats, just like them, who built the Bonehill
So again; what does it matter that Tigerstar wasn't given the authority by StarClan to change his name?
His mentor was named Heartworm. And that is the only angel he prays to.
If they hadn't gone back to RiverClan, Feathertail never would have been chosen for the journey. Never would have died.
And the destruction of the Forest killed his family in ThunderClan. Devastated them. Even Graystripe was taken.
So when Leopardstar nodded at the "sign" Mothwing claimed she saw, when RiverClan hardened in TNP, and when it kicked out the pawful of Tribe cats who had come to help these ingrates get set up in a new territory...
He was done with Clan Culture. There was nothing left here, for him.
I don't even plan for him to be in love with Brook yet, going to the Tribe was about getting the fuck away from all this.
Yes Feathertail's grave is there too, but I think his feelings are super complicated.
Cricketclaw was right, he let her decide his life, and because of her he didn't get to say goodbye to his family. He would have been in ThunderClan, maybe even been able to save some of them.
At the Tribe, he lives in the Cave Ward. The least populated ward, and practically a temple-town.
At first he thought he would be more of a hunter, but he quickly learned he really doesn't like how you hunt in the highlands. It's a VERY leggy activity, lots of hiking, running, coordination. It was different than he expected.
Anyway I'll stop there because I could write an SE on how Stormfur adjusts after his immigration and I would actually be interested in doing it. Like, really take the chance to show how the BB!Tribe works and explore the feelings of moving to a new place.
It's a theme that's personal to me as a writer tbh.
Graystripe meanwhile... he never gets over Silverstream. Not even with Millie. I don't think he realizes it, but he really is always looking for the glimpse of himself in a happier timeline
And boy oh boy does it fuck up his next litter.
I've spoken about them all before and I plan to collect it all in one place at some point, but briefly,
Graystripe can't ever take a side when Millie treats Briarlight poorly, and just ends up enabling Millie's ableism
Millie is frantic over Briarpaw's injury, and says some AWFUL things right to her face, making the entire situation about herself
But Graystripe will be like, "your mother says things she doesn't mean :( she loves you, you know"
He can't deal with the possibility of losing Millie, too. Or any of his kids. It's something that Briarlight and Blossomfall come to realize, with time and wisdom.
Bumblestripe meanwhile... he's not really smart enough to ever realize that. He just keeps breaking himself on trying to get Graystripe to see him
But Gray is ALWAYS seeing his first litter, and comparing them. No milestone goes by where he's not cheerfully bringing up some story of how their older siblings were, how he wishes they could see them.
That's where he goes, in the end. After extreme carnage from the Impostor, Graystripe decided that he wanted to spend the last of his life with Stormfur in the mountain.
(Graystripe's Vow is now Ferncloud's Parting, FERNCLOUD is gonna go confront her brother)
Thankfully, Briarlight had her mentor Honeysnake to help her realize her worth... but Blossomfall and Bumblestripe meander for meaning into really toxic, dangerous places for their whole lives.
Blossomfall trains in the Dark Forest because she feels so alienated and disconnected from the Clan at large, only stopping in the BOTTE in the last wave when she faces up against Briarlight
She confronts Briar, and she just... cocks her eyebrow. "ILL END YOU" "no you won't."
Squirrelflight actually tried to tell Bramblestar to make an exception with his Dishonor Titles for the DF trainees, realizing that that Blossomfall's problem was alienation.
She wanted Blossomfall to be put into a Secondary Apprenticeship, specifically for the Construction Patrol since Dustpelt was killed. Something where she'd see her work pay off, and she'd be helping to take care of the Clan.
But Bramblestar rejected it, because it would be unfair. If everyone else is getting Dishonor Titles she will get one too; she shouldn't be REWARDED for what she did. It's a punishment.
So she was Shredbloom for a while. None of her problems were addressed and she ended up joining The Kin later, eventually being rescued by Heathertail and her plan.
Returning to ThunderClan was on her family's vouch, bringing the kits she'd given birth to in The Kin with her, and she was on THIN ICE
She mouthed off at the Impostor in typical Blossomfall fashion once, early in his reign, and she got hit with a DEVASTATING second Dishonor Title; Clearface.
"Because it would be better off if we could see right through her."
Bumblestripe became one of the Impostor's favorite lackeys, exploiting his failed relationship and resentment of Dovewing
Briarlight was murdered in the dog attack that Sparkpelt barely survived, and Stemleaf is killed in the assassination attempt on the Impostor.
Bumblestripe accompanies the old people, Ferncloud, Cloudtail, and Graystripe, during Ferncloud's Parting. He says goodbye to his dad in the mountain, and finally meets the Famous Stormfur...
And learns that he's just some fucking guy.
You live your whole life trying to hold up to this standard of a distant, unknown brother in the mountains, and then you learn he was Just A Dude all along.
He went further south with Cloudtail and Ferncloud too, to make sure they were safe. They are old and it is a long journey.
And that's where they all are to the current point of BB! In ThunderClan, the active Rainkin Family is Bumblestripe, Blossomfall, Plumstone, and Shellfur, and all of them want to support Spotfur as she raises Stemleaf's children.
They refer to themselves as "Graykin" currently; their last relevant ancestor. In Clan Culture, families tend to split at a grandparent or great-grandparent.

Month 3 - Newleaf
Goldenstar and Sagetooth woke early the next day and, fasting in preparation, left the SkyClan camp with Greyvoice, Robinpaw, and his mentor Charredbranch. Thankfully, the rain had stopped some time before dawn, and the warriors led them up the steep slopes towards the River of the Stars without much trouble. Most of the time was spent on what seemed to Goldenstar like an endless series of switchbacks, a necessary detour due to Sagetooth’s sprained paw. Greyvoice assured them it was probably a good idea to familiarize themself with the longer path anyway, given Sagetooth’s age. Tangletooth went this way for every half-moon gathering.
While Sagetooth didn’t seem to appreciate the comment on her age, she didn’t say much. Both she and Goldenstar spent the majority of the trip panting and focusing on their paws so as not to slip or fall. Goldenstar marveled at the ease with which the SkyClan cats made the climb. Robinpaw didn’t even look at his paws for most of it, eyes trained on the skies, likely searching for that Eagle he had mentioned.
They paused for a rest every hour or so, during which time Goldenstar was left with nothing to think about aside from her rumbling stomach. The fasting was intended to make it easier for the spirit to leave the body and travel to StarClan in dreaming, but she couldn’t help but watch the birds further down the slope and dream of chasing them down. Mouth watering, she decided she officially didn’t like fasting.
Sometime around noon, the group reached the mouth of the cave they were here to enter. It wasn’t much more than two tail lengths tall, made of smooth dark stone that twisted and tunneled deeper into the mountain.
“Here we are,” Charredbranch said, doing a quick glance for hawks or eagles. “We’ll be hunting in the area and swing back around when we’re done. Hopefully we’ll have enough to spare a meal for you when you get out.”
“That would be lovely,” Goldenstar laughed hungrily. “Good luck. We shouldn’t be too long.”
Sagetooth, already heading down the tunnel, called back, “Come on, we’re not here for small talk!”
“Right, coming!” Goldenstar called after her. Charredbranch gave her a sympathetic smile and she grinned back before bounding to catch up with Sagetooth.
They padded through the tunnel for a good long while, their paw pads making only the slightest of noise on the cool stone floor. Soon the light from outside was obscured by the twists and turns of the tunnels and they were plunged into darkness. Using their whiskers to navigate, they didn’t speak as they ventured deeper, the path slowly sloping downward. Just like the only other time she had been here, Goldenstar’s pelt prickled uneasily. It felt to her like all kinds of ghosts could creep up on them or spy from the darkness. Shuddering, she decided to strike up a conversation.
“What do you think StarClan will say?” she asked softly. Even in her attempt to make some noise, it felt wrong to talk at full volume in such hallowed passages.
“StarClan?” Sagetooth mused, “I doubt they’ll like it. But I know at least Sunstar will hear you out.”
“Good,” Goldenstar nodded to herself - it wasn’t like Sagetooth could see the gesture, “She’s the only one I really want to talk to.” Sagetooth grunted but didn’t continue the conversation. With a sigh, Goldenstar resigned herself to eerie silence.
After a while - a few minutes? Half an hour? More? It was hard to tell - her ears picked up on the sound of rushing and dripping water ahead. The sound grew louder and louder as the tunnel became thinner and shorter, squeezing down around them until she had to duck and follow behind Sagetooth single file. Still, hope bloomed in her chest as a soft blue glow started to reflect off the ridges of the smooth stone tunnels. Eventually, the light was just up ahead. The tunnel opened up into a grand chamber. Sagetooth padded down the stony bank ahead of them to the edge of a flowing river that emerged out of the rock and disappeared back into it a few meters later. Goldenstar stepped out of the tunnel and looked up, still in awe of the sight that gave the river its name.
On the roof of the cave was a spread of vibrantly glowing blue dots. They clung to the ceiling, crept down the walls, and reflected off of the dark surface of the river. Goldenstar felt like stepping into that water would cause you to be swallowed by the night sky itself. She slipped out of the tunnel and settled down beside the already loafing Sagetooth.
“Well, I’ll see you on the other side,” said the healer. She bowed her head to take a drink from the pool and Goldenstar did the same. Greedily, she lapped at the cool, stony tasting water, her empty stomach begging for anything to fill it. She forced herself to stop after a few heavy gulps and pulled back, curling into a ball against Sagetooth’s flank. She closed her eyes, took a few slow, deep breaths, and let the peace of the location take her into the depths of dreaming.
~~~
Goldenstar sat up suddenly, surrounded by gently swaying dark blue grass. Everything around her seemed to glow with a gentle luminosity. Everything was peacefully quiet, the sound of birds singing being the only real noise. It was interesting. Last time she had been here, she had been surrounded by every cat she’d ever seen die, friends she had lost, the center of a throng of familiar faces. Now she seemed to be… alone. She sat up taller, peering over the grass and frowned.
“Hello?” she called cautiously. “Sagetooth…? Sunstar?”
No response. She stood, stretched, and looked around a bit. The place was a mirror image of RisingClan’s territory, and she knew exactly the spot she found herself in. Smiling, she took off towards the little tree near the border that Sunstar used to go to relax. She arrived shortly and, sure enough, there was Sunstar, lounging in its branches.
“Sunstar!” she trilled, picking up her pace to bound the last through meters.
“Goldensun!” purred the starry cat, lifting her head, “Or well, Goldenstar, I should say. What brings you to my neck of the woods?”
“I need some advice,” Goldenstar said. She bunched her legs underneath her and sprang up into the tree to join her former mentor.
“Well, I’ll do my best,” chuckled Sunstar, “But you really ought to learn to run the Clan without me.”
Goldenstar smiled fondly. “I promise, I’ll give you a rest after this. How much do you… see? Like do you keep eyes on us?”
“A little bit. I could see more but I’ve mostly been enjoying the peaceful season in paradise.”
“Have you seen our guest?”
“The rogue,” Sunstar nodded knowingly. “I had to get a peek. Everyone is talking about her.”
“That figures,” Goldenstar chuckled, “Smokyrose has helped her bring some concerns to me, things that worry her about Clan life.” Sunstar’s face softened at the mention of her sister but she pulled it into something more serious as Goldenstar continued. “I can tell she needs a home, that she’s… like a stranger in her own life. She seems to think I’m some tyrant who will punish her if she steps a whisker out of line. She called me ‘your excellence.’”
Sunstar laughed a bit. “I see. Interesting. So you want her to join the Clan.” Goldenstar grinned. Of course, her old mentor and closest confidant knew exactly what she was thinking.
“Yeah, but she has a few worries about the way we do things. And now that she’s pointed them out, I can’t stop seeing them.”
“Like what?”
“Well… Mainly, she thinks the Clan is designed to keep cats inside it, like to not allow them to leave.”
“Well, Is it?” asked Sunstar, and Goldenstar was taken aback by the question.
“Of course not,” she said instinctively, then, knowing what Sunstar would likely say, added, “or… at least I don’t want it to be.”
“There you go. So again, I’m gonna ask you, do you think it is designed that way?”
Goldenstar sighed. “Maybe. I don’t know. I’d like to think cats could leave any time they wanted but… she says they don’t even know they can’t leave most of the time. Or that they can leave, but if they do they get judged or… shunned. And… I mean, I hate to say it, but I think she’s right. I mean think about someone like Redleaf.” Sunstar frowned and nodded and Goldenstar continued. “My question is; what do I do about it?”
“Hmm. A good question,” Sunstar ran her tongue over her forearm thoughtfully, then passed it over one ear. “But I think you already know the answer.”
Goldenstar groaned in frustration. “Everyone keeps saying that!”
“Are they wrong?”
“I don’t know!” she cried, tail lashing. “I don’t feel like I know what to do! I can’t just… start changing things, I-”
“Why not?” asked Sunstar, stopping Goldenstar in her tracks.
“What do you mean, ‘why not?’” she starred, baffled.
“Why not?” repeated Sunstar, firmer this time. “You are Goldenstar of RisingClan! You are one of the most powerful cats living in this territory, not to mention the most stubborn, headstrong, passionate cat I know.” Goldenstar blushed a bit under the praise, even if she was upset. “All you have to do is decide to change things and you can! It sounds like Smokyrose is already on your side, and she’s an excellent mediator and a perfect cat to help you through this.”
Goldenstar sighed and shook her head. “Why do you always have to be right?”
“Cause I’m the best,” she purred, resting her chin on the back of one paw. “Tell me what you have in mind. I’m eager to hear your plans for our Clan.”
LOG 9
Some interesting news from my trailcams I reckon, although I’m only ready to talk about it now that I’ve calmed down, mainly thanks to the aid of calming tea (it’s a brewing recipe I got from my mom I might write it down there some day, but in the mean time this is supposed to be a notebook full of notes for my thesis, no my diary).
Remember those trailcams I put at Druid’s Hollow? Well I had stopped them from recording because the number of rabbits, blackbirds etc which crossed their sensors was astounding and also using electricity for naught. But last night was the full moon, and I remembered it was the full moon too when I first stumbled upon all those cats, so I put them on, on recording, and went to bed.
Morning, waking up, completely forgot I had this set up, went to the Mitchells’ for a cup of tea, we’re starting to become good friends. Mr Mitchells works nightshifts and went back home as I was arriving, with hot croissants and cookies from the bakery down the road. As we settled around a cup of tea, Mrs Mitchells told me she had insomnia and had taken on to walk to the edge of the woods last night, and had suddenly understood why people living closer than her from the forest would think it was haunted.
“Why so?” I asked.
“Because” was her response “every full moon there’s an unholy amount of mewing coming from the forest all through the night”
At that point I remembered my cams and sprung up, told them about the set up and my previous encounter, and invited them home to watch the whole thing with me. Mr Mitchells said he was going to sleep after his night shift, but Mrs Mitchells and their visiting student daughter, Eleanor, were interested and came with me.
Put on the recording from one of the cameras. Beginning of the night. FIfteen, maybe more, cats arrive, from the forest, led by a little guy with golden fur I had hunted down and tagged at sunfall and whom I thus named Sunfall, as well as Goosefeather, and the prussian blue, Bluefur as I named her, and a few others I’ll spare you.
Sunfall leaped on the big rock in the center, and all the cats just... kinda waited there. Then the River cats arrived, led by Hailstar,, and then the Moor and Swamp cats arrived too. I’ve got to tag all of those. Eleanor Mitchells pointed at a black and white Moor Cat and said he had been locked in the Crawley house at some point with their cat Jake. So now I know who Jake belongs to at last! I might get my underwear back at some point!
Anyway Hailstar, Cedarstar, Sunfall and Heatherstar... wait. I think I just realized right now that the three cats whom I named “star” were all from a different clan and all leading their groups... OK let’s say I name the leaders “star” and rename Sunfall Sunstar, even if it’s a weird name, because this way I can browse through my notes, look for “star” and know I’m talking about a leader. Yeah also my data showed recently that Sunf...star had started moving on the same patterns as Pinestar did before he left to live at the Appleby’s. I didn’t tag him before three days after Pinestar took permanent residence in town, so maybe it wasn’t instantaneous, but I definitely have to study more my daytime videos of the Forest Group camp.
The four “star” all went to the top of the great rock and, one after the other, just... meowed loudly for a long time. All the other cats just... stared at them. It was... very eery. Then all four went down the rock, cats from all groups started to meddle, for half an hour it was just... cats meowing like it was nobody’s business, then it started raining and all four “star” cats just... meowed very violently and the four groups dispersed.
It feels very much like I’m in a found footage horror movie and am going to be brutally murdered by a bunch of wild cats.
The Problem With The Medicine Cat Rule - Discussion
I know I have one or two pending requests, but this is rather important to me, so I wanted to prioritize this
And even I no longer identify as female, that I never want children, I still feel like this is a topic that needs to be confronted in the Warriors community a little harder than it has been
There is only one code for medicine cats
that they are not allowed mates or kits
this was a rule created by Moth Flight, who had a mate and kits, yes, and aided in the choice of Quiet Rain, who was not a medicine cat, but was the mother of Clear Sky, Gray Wing, and Jagged Peak
Now what Moth Flight went through wasn’t fair
She had a rough time and she deserved to feel cautious about what happened, especially after the loss of her mate
However, her and Quiet Rain coming together to make this rule, I believe, caused more unnecessary death and pain than what was needed
and you don’t have to agree with what I’m about to say, but this is my personal opinion
The rule resulted in the direct death of Wishkit and Hopekit, Yellowfang’s daughters, and would’ve caused the death of Leafpool and her kits had her sister not been there to help.
The main reason this is a rule is that the medicine cats would not be able to choose between kin and those who need them
However, medicine cats have family
they have friends
and automatically that puts a bias in their paws
If you were to look me in the eye and say Leafpool wouldn’t choose to save her sister, Squirrelflight, or her parents, Sandstorm and Firestar, over someone else, I would call bullshit
Or that Mudfur didn’t go out of his way to prioritize Leopardstar when she was younger
And that’s another thing
Mudfur is a medicine cat who, as a warrior before, had kits
And he was still a great healer and a good mentor to Mothwing
If he could be a father to his daughter and still take over his duties as a healer, who is to say that Leafpool couldn’t have raised Holly, Jay, and Lion without any problems?
The issue with Moth Flight was that the Clans were still forming and the togetherness hadn’t fully established yet
But now in the future, where queens would go and leave their kits with their mates and/or other queens, there shouldn’t be an issue
The only saving grace I can even consider is that it was used so that Spottedpaw/leaf could be safe from Thistleclaw and his advances, but in the end it didn’t protect other cats who needed protecting
It didn’t save two kits who were born in a hollow, mushroom-infested tree
and it caused more pain for Leafpool, who nearly lost everything she ever had because she was forced to keep it all a secret
Moth Flight had a rough time
I won’t deny that
but her using her bias experience to make a rule to ban bias just makes no sense
Redscar made a bias choice when he was forced to choose a new leader. He faked a sign for a cat just because he favored her over others. StarClan did not tell him who to choose. They only told him that someone needed to be made leader. Just because the choice was a good one doesn’t mean the original choice he made wasn’t made with bias in mind.
and Quiet Rain’s argument
that she fought tooth and nail to be with her kits in her dying days
that being apart of them hurt her to her very core
that could be said about any she-cat
Should Whitewing not be allowed to have kits because it just so happened one of them moved to ShadowClan and is no longer around? Because she was heartbroken when Dovewing left and she still loved her daughter
Should Leafstar never have had kits because she’s a leader and she needs to focus more on her Clan? In fact, this is considered in canon since Bluestar felt like she needed to give up her kits because she thought Sunstar would never make a queen deputy  But Bluestar could’ve still been deputy while raising kits and Leafstar did her best for her Clan while having three babies to look after
In the end
this rule, whether intentionally or not, has a lot of sexist undertones
Especially since a lot of it focuses on the she-cats and not the toms
And even if a medicine cat had kits and the mate wasn’t around
The Clan is supposed to look out for each other
Meaning there’s always queens or friends or family who could help when the medicine cat isn’t there to care for their young
It’s unfair to put the pressure on medicine cats to look after an entire Clan’s health if it’s implied that that Clan won’t look out for them back
and that bias for kin is only considered for the kits and not for any parents or siblings or even nieces or nephews
every character will have a bias no matter what
let medicine cats have families
hey so remember when i scrolled for a post for so long i wanted to stab something? yup that was research for this, so here you go- a vermillion twins backstory!! <33
a soft rap at the door, then a louder one.
a little early for a drop off, the daycare owner thought to herself, yawning. oh well, who am i to judge. she made her way towards the door-
“hello and welcome to stormy daycare! i’m rain, ho-” wha-? she was literally talking to the air. then a small voice pulled her gaze down. “hi there- i like your house!! here’s my- our application :3”, handing her a worn piece of paper.
it was a child who’d knocked at the door. figures. rain read over the paper the kid had just given her, and written all in pencil it read:
hello!! can we be adopted?
rem resume:
-polite! :3 sometims chaotic but i (star) will keep the others out of the appliances
-we like to draw!! maybe draw for you, if you want :D
i’m out of things so that is all- thamk you for your time c:
huh. “we”. rain briefly looked around, no one in sight. so it was a no-parent situation, hm. she turned to the child again, “so who’s ‘we’?”
“yes or no first.”
“what?”
“you have to say whether or not you’ll take us first.”
rain surveyed the kid again, and she looked pretty normal, except for- wait was that a flower on her head?? she’d thought it was a bow at first glance but no, it was definitely a giant poppy growing from this kid’s head. but she was curious who “we” was, and besides she’d seen worse.
“Yknow what? sure, i’ll take you in, no one’s ever given me a full application before- just so you know though, you’re not the only kids who’ll be here-”
“OH MY GOD REALLY THANKYOU THANKYOU!! I’LL BRING NATSUE HERE NOW-” the kid shouts before jogging to the side of the house and dragging along,,, a cardboard box?
“nat, she says she’ll take us so you have to at least say hi!!”
there was another kid inside the box- what?? but standing up, the two looked very similar- same height, same age, same features- except the kid from the box had a giant mushroom hat instead of a poppy, and their hair was much longer.
“so rain my name is star, and this is,,,”
“hi, i’m natsue :>”
“and we’re a package deal! you take me, you take them :3”
bewildered but already attached to these kids, rain started mentally planning out where they could sleep in the daycare. “alright well i can take note of your names! star and,, natsue did you say? n-a-t-s-u-e, yep got it- do you happen to have a last name?”
They looked at each other as if they’d been told there was homework due that they hadn't done.
“uhhh,, sun-”
“star?”
“yeah?”
“nono i mean our last name is sun-star. sunstar”
“ooo i like that,” star turned to rain, who’d heard every word they’d just said, “star and natsue sunstar!”
“hmm, the sunstar twins. i like the sound of that,” rain smiled dryly. “c’mon, let’s get you two cleaned and set up!”
Bluestar’s Quest Ch.1
“Finished?”
Bluefur looked up from her catch, locking eyes with Halftail. “Yeah,” she mewed. “I’m ready to go.”
“Let’s go then,” Halftail said invitingly. “We’re waiting on you.”
“Oh!” Embarrassment flashed through Bluefur’s pelt, and she jumped to her paws. She followed the skilled hunter to the edge of Camp, where the Gathering Patrol was waiting.
She walked alongside Poppydawn and Willowpaw, reminiscing about her kit-days when Poppydawn was still heavy with kittens. Willowpaw trotted alongside her, ear-to-ear in height with her mentor.
It had been two seasons since Willowpaw and her littermates had been apprenticed - they’d be due for their Warrior Names in the coming moons. Her nephew Whitepaw and his friend Tigerpaw were overdue for them, but it had been part of their punishment for having too-rough training sessions. Tigerpaw bore a scar over the bridge of his nose thanks to such training sessions, and Whitepaw had a notch in his ear that Snowflower had spent quite a while licking and fussing over.
At the edge of the Fourtrees hollow, Sunstar stopped his patrol. “Remember: feel free to discuss, but don’t discuss too much. Our weaknesses are our own,” he recited. All the Clan cats nodded their heads, and then they all descended as one into the throng of cats.
With a purpose, Bluefur strode around. Hailstar stood upon the Great Rock, so surely RiverClan was here...
She finally found herself nose-to-nose with the tom of her dreams. Oakheart! “How have you been?” the tom asked gently, nosing her over and licking her cheek.
“I’ve been well,” Bluefur said happily. “How are things in RiverClan?”
“My brother is Deputy now,” Oakheart said proudly, sitting down after a very interesting wiggle-butt maneuver. “Our father Shellheart retired, so it’s him now.”
“That’s amazing!” Bluefur said, running her tail along Oakheart’s. “I’m sure he’s very proud.”
“He’s been prancing around for the last quarter-moon since it happened,” Oakheart joked. “You know, there was a time in my life where I thought I’d never see him again.”
“I heard about when he left RiverClan,” Bluefur said with a nod. The leaders began their reports, but Oakheart was more interesting.
They talked along for a while, before something caught Oakheart’s ear. It was Cedarstar’s report, and he was discussing the Thunderpath tunnel.
“That’s real?” Oakheart asked in surprise.
“What?” Bluefur mewed, looking at him. It’s like a kit asking about the territory, she thought affectionately. “Of course it is. Did you think ThunderClan and ShadowClan were just pulling it out of their pelts?”
“Maybe,” Oakheart said with a shrug. “I don’t know what you do on your own time.”
Bluefur laughed. “I can show it to you,” she said, before rethinking what she’d said. How was that possible? She’d have to sneak Oakheart across ThunderClan territory...
“Could you?”
Oh boy.
“I- I could,” Bluefur stammered with a shy smile. “If you like.”
Oakheart nodded with interest.
Bluefur looked around. Noone was paying mind to them, and they were both sat comfortably close to the edge of the hollow. She nudged the reddish tom and they slid quickly into the bushes, unseen.
They reached the tunnel, where the dark and the hum of the Monsters above seemed to almost lull Oakheart.
“It sounds like the river,” the tom explained, laying down and stretching himself out on his side. “It thunders after it rains. It’s so loud and comforting.”
Bluefur laughed and padded forward, curling close to him. It felt nice to lay with him like this, her whiskers twitching as the monsters rumbled past above them.
She closed her eyes. When she opened them, it was morning.
Panic swelled in her chest.
“Oakheart!” she hissed. “Wake up! We have to go home!”
Oakheart’s eyes slowly opened. Then he jolted, his fur stood on end, and he got up, trembling harshly. “Oh!” he gasped. “I- I-”
“We need to go home,” Bluefur repeated. “I need to go home. I- I’ll...”
She wanted to say I’ll see you around. But shame and panic got the best of her. She whipped around and ran out of the tunnel, toward the safe enclosing woods that marked her homeland. She hoped noone had noticed she was gone.
I’ll never speak to Oakheart again, she thought anxiously. StarClan forgive me!
