Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
barnes and noble has been raising the prices of everything and further pushing for their premium membership option (which they raised the price of by 60 percent this year!) and then when they have big sales events, they're less than what they used to be.
last year at this time you could get one of their leather-bound book annex tomes for $12.50 (without a member discount) because of the 50 percent off all hardcover sales. but they raised the price of those tomes from 25 bucks to 30, and they decreased the sale from 50 percent off all hardcovers to 1/3rd off. so that same book that was $12.50 at last year's end-of-year sale is now 20 bucks. and that's supposed to be savings enough to induce me to walk into one of their stores this week?
i'm sorry but b&n has just gotten so greedy, even though their business has only been doing better and better in previous years. they do not have to be raising prices like they have been, and they can damn well afford to have the same savings events they used to. if you went to one of those hardcover sales a year or two ago, even if you lived in a less populated area like i do, you had never seen a b&n so busy in your life. things were flying off the shelves. they WERE making bank.
and as a company they've only been growing and growing (as much as the publishing industry has been, in recent years). but there are so many other ways to buy books. CHEAPER ways to buy books. MORE SUSTAINABLE ways to buy books. and since books and booksellers are doing really well right now, i don't see why barnes and noble is getting so greedy when they don't have to be. i dont like new shiny books that much. people buy books for the content, ultimately. sometimes we as consumers might make the choice that a new shiny book is worth paying a bit more for, but not that much. barnes and noble has just been demanding more and more of their customers' money for less and less benefit.
it’s funny how the h&rry p*tter books were like “here’s the magical people and the nonmagical people!” and then made occasional vague incoherent gestures at “also some of the magical people are bigoted towards the nonmagical people like the fantasy blood purity is based off your proximity to the nonmagical people and the wizard nazis like to kill and torture the nonmagical people offscreen where we don’t have to care. this is bad they should learn to be nicer” and then the whole fandom proceeded to seize on “muggle” as an insult or word for someone who’s like inferior or mundane and it became universally known as a bad thing to be. a+ reading comprehension there. honestly i think this speaks to both the failure of the text to properly commit to any clear coherent political allegory and the failure of the fans to pick up on what allegory and subtext visibly exists. great job all around everyone
Everyone who reblogs my bi!Spuffy GIF set and tags it with something along the lines of “isn’t this canon?”/”counting AtS/the comics it’s canon” has me close to tears. I wish, fam, I really really wish.
We all know Buffy’s been queercoded since season 1 and it is a canon fact that Spike has had sex with Angel at least once.
However. The comics go out of their way to have Buffy sleep with a woman. Not once, but twice. And still vocally deny any bisexuality. They give her a sexuality crisis that has her settle back into “yeah no definitely 100% straight”. Even though making her have sex with a woman would be a wonderful opening to actually make her canonically come out as bisexual, after spending seven seasons queercoding her every chance they had.
As it stands, canon went outta its way to declare her heterosexual, even though you, me and everyone who’s ever watched this show know better.
And that behavior is why I take canon bi!Spike with a grain of salt too, because if asked point blank or if given a chance to bring it up again - in more than a one-line-throwaway joke - I’m fairly sure Whedon would also go out of his way to establish that Spike is 100% absolutely heterosexual (hahahahaha) and that Drusilla and Darla dared them to or whatever.
Again, we all know better. Nobody who dresses like that and behaves like that (and sleeps with a man like that) is a CIShet guy. Spike is incredibly queer in layers, both in his sexuality and his gender.
But canon adamantly refuses to give genuine confirmation and if asked with a gun to their head (let me repeat: they put that gun there themselves by making Buffy have sex with a woman), they will still loudly proclaim heterosexuality where no heterosexuality can be found.
So, sadly, based on actual canon, they’re headcanons. Even if we all know better. Spike and Buffy are two bisexuals in love.
(To clarify: This post is not to say “I mind your tags” or to wag my finger at the people tagging it, like some “ha, gotcha there! It’s not canon”, it’s honestly mostly just me venting my frustration that it is not canon and just how poorly canon handled Buffy’s sexuality in particular. This franchise literally made unicorns real before it made a bisexual character real.)
i'm coming to the end of my summer work at the art gallery, with only 2 more sessions to go! but today i got this from one of the younger members of my volunteer team 🥺
she made sure to include the sweetcorn earrings i was wearing today 😂 absolutely blessed i will be keeping and treasuring this FOREVER!!! 💖
hi! thank you so much for another completely BRILLIANT chapter of TOTP, it was more than worth the wait! your writing style is beyond stunning, and I'm in awe of how well you understand these characters and how real and true to her portrayal Kimberly feels in your fic, even though we only had a few scenes with her from the show. I love everything about Kim and Tim's relationship too, and the moment with Lucy and Kim about the Cole Porter record was so touching.
I want to ask (and feel free not to answer if you want to keep things to yourself) - will we get to see Hawk and Tim reunite (and fix things) onscreen in your fic? because I keep imagining it and going !!! because I am clinging to that fix-it tag for dear life 💕
FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I'm not sure if i've said this before, but chracterization staying true to the ones presented in the show is like, my number one priority, so to hear that you like it means the world to me, it does!!!
And mmm I really don't want to give too much away, but rest assured that the fix it tag is there for a reason. I was talking about this a few days ago I think, but the ending is the one thing I've had set in stone about this fic from the start. I think that what I can say is that we're never ever gonna leave Kim's pov (at least not in this particular fic), and we'll see as much as it makes sense for her to see. Hawk and Tim's relationship is a very important part of why she's even in the situation she's in, and that does deserve some resolution (that it will have!!!). But like, yes there is more to this that will keep being explored and I have to stop now or else I'm gonna spoil the entire thing for you and we don't want that!!!!
