I suppose this will be the first time I've followed in real time, so that's kind of cool

So I knew Marisa was gonna get me, she was basically built in a lab to blow my tits specifically clean off
But while I always love grapplers Manon as a character actually surprised me with how much I liked her character and story, it wasn’t really what I expected, in a good way!
Tumblr media
Also this CG from her arcade mode rewired my brain

Since I have outlandish hopes, I made a concept for if Asura (his reincarnation to be specific) got into Street Fighter 6! Also it was just fun ok-
Tumblr media
Transcript under cut:
- No fighting style set in stone (yet?)
- The REINCARNATION, not Asura himself
- Asura is just a nickname perhaps?
- Alt costume would match the demigod's appearance
- You’d meet him in World Tour after saving his daughter from some goons
- Arcade mode would follow him against Akuma who had mistaken him for the original Asura

A.K.I. in the bathtub. Street Fighter 6 arcade mode art illustration.
The first time I saw this art of A.K.I. after finishing her Arcade mode many months ago, I was automatically reminded of a much earlier fanart of F.A.N.G by the phenomenal Hideaki. This is the art :
F.A.N.G under M. Bison’s red cloak.
Similar pose, similar colors, similar lighting. But the FANG one exudes strong sensual energy whereas the official AKI art has a more contemplative tone to it. Or at least, it seems that way to me lol.
Anyway, I’m perhaps the only person in the world who automatically thought about that gorgeous FANG Art when I first saw that AKI pic. 💜💜

so ive lived in psych-wards 6 times since i was 13 or so years old. it can be pretty terrible in there. i was mostly put in them due to meltdowns (i have autism, tourettes & OCD).
i just played thru A.K.I. and Ed's arcade mode campaigns in street fighter 6. Ed and some other victims of shadaloo's human cloning/supersoldier experiments have teamed up to find even more victims, to give them a home and a family. i even unlocked art of Ed, Falke, Baba Mwalimu and others playing pool and listening to music together in a lil lounge area.
this kind of thing is really nice to see from capcom. it makes me wonder what inspired it. does Takayuki Nakayama or Shuhei Matsumoto have a relative or friend who was in a psych ward, or faced societal/bureacratic ableism?
i hope neo shadaloo doesnt end up being manipulated by J.P. for evil. i want to see these psycho power survivors have a better life outside their old shadaloo confines.

Ok so, with the Tekken 8 Closed Network Test now concluded, I'd like to share a few thoughts.
Tumblr media
The game looks great, I love the new redesigns, I love the new animations and the fact that they got the entire cast to rerecord their battle grunts and win / pre battle quotes, it was especially weird to have certain characters use voice lines from different actors, some of whom weren't even speaking the same language 🤣
The redesigns are almost exclusively great so far, but I do hope we get alternate costumes. Yeah customization is there but I don't really care to have Nina in jeans and cowboy boots or Jin in platinum blond pigtails like... A lot of fighting games just have a palette swap as the second costume and call it a day, but from the very beginning all the way up to Tekken 6, Tekken had an alternate outfit for every single character. Not only that, but it was usually a more "casual" outfit too like, Kazuya's Tekken 1 1P was his karate gi pants but his 2P was a tank top and jeans. Asuka's Tekken 5 1P was her Aikido uniform and her 2P was her trademark shorts and tank top and so on. Tekken 7 originally went for the 2P palette swap, but at some point they added extra costumes, including classic looks, via an update, and I hope they are there from the start this time.
I played almost exclusively as Nina because she's been my main since 2005, with a little Jun, a little Xiaoyu and a little Jin thrown in. I also tried Lili's, Hwoarang's and Asuka's combo trials (nice that they FINALLY added combo trials, I don't know what took them so long lol) I gotta say it's extremely satisfying to see Harada CONSTANTLY shading Street Fighter on Twitter by saying that the base roster will feature a lot more fighters than our competitors an also Mortal Kombat by saying that they are focusing on legacy fighters before they even start considering guests. Like. That's a ball move and a huge reassurance for the fans. I also know it's in good faith and no harm is meant towards Capcom or Netherrealm but he's right and he should say it!
If there's one thing I hope they copy off of Capcom is Word Tour mode. Yeah NetherRealm Studios' cinematic story mode is fine... I guess... But World Tour mode is the best single player mode ever featured in a fighting game and Namco even have their own blueprint in the form of Tekken Force. We're probably still getting a cinematic-style story but there's still hope for Tekken 9, or maybe even a smaller-scale Tekken Force return, in the style of Tekken 4 or sth.
Arcade Mode needs a proper reintroduction as well, in Tekken 6 you only got 4 battles and you were done and in Tekken 7 you straight up got nothing at all out of Arcade mode and character endings were instead for the base game characters who weren't prominently featured in the cinematic story and you got them after a single battle... Very underwhelming.
Also hoping other "missing" modes like Team Battle return and maybe Tekken Bowl will be included from the get go this time? I've also had this request forever but I'd love to see 1P Vs. Com or Com Vs. Com fights be included in offline versus. Literally every other fighting game has it except Tekken and Virtua Fighter and I can't tell why. It shouldn't be hard to implement and honestly sometimes it's just fun to pick characters, costumes and stage and just fight it out with the computer, as a break from online grinding and whatnot.
Now, as for the battle system itself... It's lots of fun! There's tons of stuff going on at all times but it feels great to experience and it's not really overwhelming or anything. It's cute that they have included an "easy mode" for new players to ease themselves in the fun. I'm not a master player by any means but I've had almost two decades of experience in Tekken and legacy skill does play a big role in the Tekken meta so it's an interesting way to even out the playing field. Interestingly, they also seem to have simplified some of the more complicated commands like, I can pull off all of Nina's combo throws now with a total of like, four button presses at most? Crazy! The heat system feels a bit weird at first but it's a huge asset once you get into it which doesn't take all that long anyway.
Overall I am very satisfied with what I got to play and I feel like Tekken 8 is gonna be another huge chapter in Tekken's history as well as the FGC's as a whole and I honestly cannot wait! Hopefully I will have moved out of Greece by the time it's out because my internet connection was killing me 😭🤣
I also better see miss Anna and Christie in the game or else I'm rioting.

I’d almost forgotten I had more Street Fighter 6 Arcade Modes to clear, so I took care of that !
-- My last three were Lily, Jamie and Luke !  I also did Zangief again because it didn’t save the first time
-- Jamie fights like Jackie Chan in Drunken Master; that’s something different.  And he knows Yun and Yang; I don’t think I ever played as them
-- Once I thought there should be a Street Fighter who’s just a generic guy named Joe, and it turned out there was one.  That’s kind of what Luke reminds me of.  They should’ve brought back Joe
-- He does wear piggy toes [as opposed to shoes].  Back when I was in Day Care, long ago, there was a baby who always wore piggy toes.  His catchphrase was “Waaaaaant moooore !” Wonder what ever happened to him
-- They’re going to add more guys later, like Rashid and Aki.  I know someone from Ultra Street Fighter IV I might like to see later, but I shan’t say who it is !

So I'm playing Arcade Mode in Guilty Gear Strive so I can practice both the game and the new fightstick I got. Hadn't played Strive in years so I figured learning it on a brand new controller would be easier than replacing all my muscle memory in Street Fighter 6.
I'm doing pretty well, and by the end I'm like "damn, these fights were pretty challenging, but I'm glad I was still able to win. Lemme raise the difficulty and do another run."
...it turned out that I was playing on the highest difficulty. o_O

Top 10 Video Games that DON’T Need a Remake/Reboot EVER
Note that this list is subjective, but I felt I had to make it because we are living in the age of remakes and reboots. And just like some movies don’t need a remake, neither do timeless video games.
Tumblr media
1- Chrono Trigger - It’s not for nothing this game not only aged well, but also stands as one of the best plot driven games with time travel as its theme. It also introduced the concept of the same game having multiple endings and the “NewGame+” mode. While remastering it would be fine, the game is already emotive, fun and advanced as it is and doesn’t need a remake or to be turned 3D (shudder). Let’s not try to improve upon perfection.
Tumblr media
2- Mother (1, 2 and 3) - Considering the themes these games have are really from their time which was the 90s (especially the alien invasion concept), you really can’t remake them or make them like new without changing everything to the point where it just isn’t the same game anymore. You might as well just make a sequel rather than attempt to remake an existing instalment and pretend it is the same when it isn’t. Plus, the pixelated and 2D look ADDS to the charm of the game. When you take it away, it just isn’t the same.
Tumblr media
3- Sonic the Hedgehog (1, 2, 3, CD and Sonic & Knuckles) - Like Mother, these games are games of their times which would translate very poorly in 3D and everything that makes them fun to watch and play would be lost. While remasters and fixing the bugs in these games would be fine, we don’t need to give it the 3D treatment. There are enough 3D Sonic games as is.
Tumblr media
4- Super Mario World - Like the classic Sonic games, there are enough 3D Mario Bros games. Let’s keep the classic ones as is with just a remaster at best. Plus, side scrollers are such a lost art now. Do we really want to erase the last of them?
Tumblr media
5- Tetris - It’s bad enough we tried to make a sequel that no one asked for when it comes to this game. Does it really need a remake? The thing that makes Tetris iconic is its simplicity. There’s nothing to remake because there’s nothing to add. It has everything it needs. Period.
Tumblr media
6- Street Fighter 2 - If there is one game that should finally stay retired and be remembered as is, it’s this one simply because it literally died of over-rebooting. There’s Street Fighter 2 Alpha, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter 2 Arcade Edition, Super Street Fighter 2, etc. Yeah. While doing that helped flesh out the iconic characters, let’s stick to just making sequels. We exhausted the remaking and rebooting process enough with this instalment. Let it rest in peace.
Tumblr media
7- Team Fortress 2 - This is online player game meaning it evolves and expands on its own. There is no need to reboot it because game like this simply don’t work out with being rebooted. By the time the game is not popular anymore, it is because the craze has passed and even if does get rebooted, no one will buy it. The smarter thing to do is to wait a while and then just make a sequel just like how TF2 is in fact just a sequel. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great game, but rebooting just isn’t its style.
Tumblr media
8- Any video game based on a celebrity - I think it is obvious why we shouldn’t waste our time rebooting video games like this. Unless it was an exceptionally amazing game and the celebrity is STILL popular, nobody of newer generation will play it simply because they won’t know who these people are. Plus, these games were not a hit even when they were new simply because people would rather play fantastical fiction characters than grounded real people even if they are celebrities. So, just don’t, folks.
Tumblr media
9- Any video game that is based on a movie, show or product - Just as movies based on video usually fail, so does the reverse. Plus, as with most of these entries, these video games were games of their time based on stuff that was popular at the time. When the newer generation sees these games, they’re going to much prefer watching the movie, watching the show or using the actual product. The only case of which the game will be worth their time is if it based on the movie or show while expanding on it by adding to the lore, filling in gaps and being its own story while still being a great game like Alien Isolation. Other than that, it’s not worth it.
Tumblr media
10- Any game that was best left forgotten - Sadly, some video game are just bad not because they were too ambitious, too ahead of their time or had too many bugs. They were just lackluster and didn’t leave an impression. They were bad ideas and rebooting them with better graphics and fancier features won’t suddenly make them good. Sometimes, it just makes it worse. If you’re going to use time, energy and money to reboot something, do so on something people want to see a comeback of. Otherwise, just make a new game.
Bonus - Other honourable mentions here I will add are every Legend of Zelda (just make a sequel), every classic Mario Bros game, Final Fantasy 1 to 6, every Pokemon game since every new game is technically just a reboot of the first two (Red and Blue) that started it all, Word of Warcraft, Starcraft, the Sims, the Phantasy Star series, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana which technically did get a reboot and it stank, every Mortal Kombat since it always gets a sequel anyway, and every Simulation, Hidden Object and Tycoon game.
