Stephen Strange HAND related head canons:
I’ve held these since seeing the first Doctor Strange movie.
Tumblr media
Stephen always had talented hands, including a mastery of video games that quickly made his friends give up playing against him until he agreed to use his left hand instead of his dominant hand. His keenly competitive nature meant he still won at least three out of four times.
Tumblr media
But those same talented hands showed a genius in his youth to rival the future genius of his surgeon’s hands.
Beverly Strange was proud of the family heirloom, upright piano that graced the front sitting room of the family farmhouse. It was one of the few things she brought to the marriage from the home of her birth. She played well enough herself, and in lean times, supplemented the family income by giving beginner lessons to the children of local town families. And she gave Stephen his initial lessons--quickly delighting in how he took to it like a duckling to water.
Stephen seemed to have a natural ear, and aided by his eidetic memory, he easily mastered all the pieces she taught him and all sheet music she owned. The first Christmas after she had taught him to play, Beverly ensured that among the meager gifts he’d find under the tree, was a binder full of the simplest of Beethoven’s works. His father, Eugene, perpetually frowned upon Beverly’s indulgence of their son’s impractical hobby--but allowed it so long as it didn’t detract from his farm work and schoolwork.
As the oldest of three children, Stephen bore the heaviest burden of farm chores, but he did his best to carve out at least a little time every day to practice. Eventually, the school’s Music Teacher noticed his amazing acumen, and did whatever she could to feed his enthusiasm and talent. Between Beverly and his kindly teacher, Stephen found the time and resources needed to continue his progression on the piano.
Tumblr media
However, once Stephen discovered a passion for the study of human biology and began to imagine a future as a doctor, he came to the first future-altering juncture of his young life. He had reached the point in his musical studies that he could potentially make a career of it. Even the lofty position of concert pianist was not out of his reach. But he could only dedicate his prodigious mind and dextrous hands to one path if he were to succeed--so that his passion for medicine won out. He never regretted that choice either. Although as soon as he could comfortably afford it, he finally got his own baby grand so that in his downtime he could tickle the ivories whenever the whim came upon him.

You know I gotta ask about my dilfy, Shakespearian babe, Defender. Reread "No Defense for the Heart" the other day, and you write him so romantically, I gotta do a few. 💖

✿ - sex headcanon
♡ - romantic headcanon
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
Thank you so, so much - I love Defender an unfathomable amount, and he presents an exquisite canvas upon which to paint my ideal romantic qualities!💖🖤💖
Tumblr media
☾ - sleep headcanon
617 Stephen perfected the art of maximizing his sleep time during grad school (getting his MD & PhD at the same time necessitated it), and that skill served him well during his internship and residency. Basically, he trained himself to fall asleep just about anywhere and anytime he could. Now, with the great demands on his time, as both the Sorcerer Supreme and leader of the Defenders, he has even less time than ever before--so when the chance for several hours uninterrupted sleep arises, he seizes it with great relish. Sleeping deeply while experiencing dreams he can often recall with great clarity. Such sleep--whose ultimate purpose is to enable him to better serve his responsibilities--refreshes him beyond any in his life. Perhaps we should call it the 'sleep of hte just'.😉
✿ - sex headcanon
Defender was always a man of rich appetites, and so had never stinted from drinking fully of whatever cup came his way. Which was fine in his life as medical student and then doctor--but now he chooses an ascetic lifestyle so that his energies can be directed more fully to his mission. Yet still, he possesses a powerful sex drive--and all that honing his body into a powerful weapon in service to good, has resulted in a stamina he rarely has time to expend.
Ah, but when he does!
When he does, he lavishes waves and waves of pleasure and ecstasy upon his lucky lover. Devotes himself to pleasing them before he fulfills his own pressing need. Takes supreme satisfaction and pride in wringing multiple orgasms from their flesh with his skilled fingers and sensual mouth, reveling in the sinful taste of them and in their moans and the sound of his name cried out like their truest prayer as they peak. He delights in being the one in control and in how softly his lover concedes herself to him. Only then does he seek his own resolution, setting a breathtaking rhythm as deeply inside as he can get, spilling himself with abandon (he prefers unprotected sex, but will wear a condom at the lady's request). Afterwards, he lingers inside her for as long as possible, for the reality of that physical connection is too beautiful to forgo until he absolutely must.
Defender adores the act of cockwarming, but will always ask first if it's alright to indulge in. And if he ever goes a bit rough in his enthusiasm when he fucks, his aftercare is the loving offering he gives to prove the depth of his devotion.
The man he is now--the man he was always meant to be--views romantic love and sex as inextricably bound. And he wouldn't want it any other way.
♡ - romantic headcanon
Stephen has always had the gift of a deep and romantic heart--and although he hasn't always allowed himself to follow it's inclinations due to the circumstances at the time, he sees the world through loving eyes. He fell easily in love as a teen and young adult. Wrote poetry (usually kept secret) for the girl/woman of his affection, used music as a means of romantic expression. Taught himself to play the guitar for that very reason, in fact (his mother taught him to play the piano as a child, and he was good enough to briefly consider making it his career, until his heart directed him to saving lives through medicine).
With his patrician good looks and easy charm, pre-accident Defender had a score of lovers--mostly short term--in his past. Though contradictory to his deeply romantic nature, he found it best to avoid entanglements of the heart as he single-mindedly pursued his goal of innovating the science of neurosurgery. He had so much to do, and so little time in those days, that he couldn't allow himself such a beautiful distraction. That was until Christine of course.
But by that time, he had become out of practice with allowing himself to be vulnerable, of speaking the truth of his heart, of trusting that he was as worthy of the love he felt for her to show her properly and let her love him in return. Once he realized he could and should, the weight of his life-altering responsibilities precluded that. He'd always hoped one day they might yet get it right, when things calmed down, when he finally had time. When she would see past his ineptitude and failure to say and show her the things she deserved, and finally claim what had been hers all along. But along came Charlie.
The most devastating lesson of Stephen's life--for his romantic nature could only experience that heartbreak as even worse than the loss of his hands.
But like the most hopelessly romantic among us, though his heart bears its scars, Stephen still believes that one day he'll find someone to love and be loved by again. He's confident he won't be repeating the mistakes of his past--for he has vowed he will follow his heart completely the next time.
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
In his old life, Stephen could afford to frequent the finest restaurants in the City, and his work gave him the excuse to do minimal cooking for himself. After the accident and the depletion of his fortune, he had to resort to much simpler choices. Lots of meatless days, lots of pasta or rice because they were the most filling. Before he found his way to Kamar-Taj--where the kitchens were always open for Masters and students alike to use between meals--he'd had to frequent soup kitchens to keep from going days at a time without eating. What a humbling experience that was!
The first night he availed himself of the smaller compound kitchen (he'd been deep in study of texts on interdimensional energies and had missed supper completely) he'd made himself a simple grilled cheese sandwich. And wept as he ate it, to realize the gift of the freedom and luxury which the haven of Kamar-Taj now provided him.
These days, the Sorcerer Supreme enjoys cooking for himself on quiet nights as a means to relax. His meals may not be anything to brag about, but Defender made a point of teaching himself at least one dish from every culture represented in the compound's population. He figured it would be useful if there came a student experiencing difficulties or homesickness; Wong keeps him informed of those who might need that extra bit of care, and though such students are admonished not to share the secrets of their meals with the Sorcerer Supreme, with others, it soon became common knowledge that a summons to meet with him after the cafeteria was closed for the night, meant they'd be experiencing a taste of home.
And since the success of his little program, Stephen finds the most satisfying meals he makes are those meant as gifs to others.
Tumblr media
Ohmygosh, writing these for Defender has been a most satisfying experience of it's own! Thank you once more @thealleydog for prompting me to put these instinctive headcanons into words.

Doctor Strange and Cloakie - head canon
Tumblr media
True Magic leaves behind a subtle scent, unique to the practitioner. It is rarely noticeable to those unaware that Magic is real--although Sorcerers with a lifetime of experience can often identity the one who cast a particular spell by the remnants of their scent. Because Stephen is almost always wearing the Cloak of Levitation when he works spells and charms (and curses, when necessary), it has gradually absorbed that scent. Along with traces of Stephen’s aftershave/cologne. The black coffee he favors--laced with chicory--when he’s bleary-eyed from pouring over ancient texts and papyrus scrolls, searching for a solution to a mystical problem that has been eluding him. Or the caramel and cream latte he enjoys in his all too rare downtimes. Plus a whisper of the spearmint gum he habitually chews. Plus, perhaps a touch of the frankincense & sage incense he burns during meditation,
Combined together, these magical and mortal scents have become deeply embedded in Cloak’s fibers--so that for anyone who’s been lucky enough to spend time in Stephen’s company, being wrapped up in Cloak would be second best to being wrapped up in in the man’s arms themselves.

*busts into the room, freed of strict Endgame spoiler restraints*
Hope you’re all ready, ‘cuz I’ve been itching to share some stuff...Doctor Strange-centric, of course!
Endgame headcanon #1:
In the one future that Stephen saw the Avengers defeating Thanos, he left a cryptic note for Wong—giving him a date and time to have the entire forces of Kamar-Taj and the Mystic Arts mobilized for battle against a threat greater than any they had ever faced…and charging Wong, by his oath to protect the Time Stone, to not reveal the source of his information—or their dread purpose—to a single soul. Doing so was a piece of cake for the dour Librarian.
Endgame headcanon #2:
The Dusted came to in the same proximity as those they vanished with.  Doctor Strange was conscious in his astral form the whole time--planning his moves, and the timing thereof, as the brilliant strategist (and only Hero with the vision to see the big picture) that he is.

TRUST THE SORCERER SUPREME. ALWAYS.

Sleepover weekend -- Strangebatch headcanons, please and thank you. :)
This ask is like a dream come true @strangelock221b!  Thank you, thank you…now lemme see what I’ve got tucked away in my noggin’–and be sure to keep reading, ‘cuz I saved the best for the last. 😍
As a child, he easily saw through the magician’s tricks at birthday parties, sometimes spoiling them for the other children by explaining exactly how the tricks were done. He never believed for a single moment in “magic”.
He showed his manual dexterity early on, quickly becoming the consistent top scorer in all the games he frequented at the video arcade. Once he conquered a game, he grew bored and swiftly moved on to something new.
Tumblr media
Stephen was a big fan of old sci-fi movies of the 50′s & 60′s; he enjoyed their ridiculous campiness, as just plain fun. However, from the first episode of Star Trek TOS, he was hooked, catching them in their syndication runs on late night television, as an adolescent.  He loved the optimism of the series, with it’s promise of a brighter future, filled with adventure, for mankind.  He also enjoyed the reboot of the alternate timeline movie series for the most part–although as a doctor, it bothered the hell out of him that a character named Khan Noonien Singh, presumably hailing from the Indian subcontinent, had skin nearly as pale as a loaf of white bread.
Once he had settled in at Kamar-Taj, he would explore the streets outside the complex a few nights a week, keeping an eye out for the street mongrel he’d encountered on the fateful day he’d found his new home.  He’d often bring scraps of food, so that Dog (he hadn’t put much thought into that one) began to come around looking for him.  When he moved to the NYC Sanctum, Strange brought Dog along, who took to the halls of the Sanctum like it was his natural home all along.  When Stephen sits engrossed in study of ancient texts & scrolls, Dog is often to be found dozing at his feet, plump & comfortable after years of being lean & unloved.
Stephen’s feelings for Christine have not faded a bit, despite her seeming to have closed the door (for now) on a romantic relationship.  Some nights, when he’s at the NYC Sanctum, and he can’t sleep, he visits the hospital in his astral form, observing her quietly as she does the work she loves, loving her for all the things he had been too selfish to recognize as the most wondrous things about her. Her kindness, compassion, her heart and her Soul.
Hot damn, this was a blast answering! Thanks again, @strangelock221b - it also serves to fill in more backstory for “my” Strangebatch, as I go foreward with future fics. xoxox

Masterlist of my Doctor Strange fan fiction
I’ve never done this before, but I had a new follower ask for a Masterlist of my fan fictions---and I thought, wow, why has that never occurred to me? So without further ado, here it is...
Tumblr media
(most of these are Works-in-Progress; I just have so many ideas, and write in several other fandoms as well, so that I am too often remiss in making regular updates)
A Strange Slice of the Big Apple
Reader insert; fluff and fun, includes the young Novices of Kamar-Taj and some timely interaction with The Cloak of Levitation
Shadow Dancing
Doctor Strange x Reader; angst, pining, friendship to romance to smut...and disco dancing ;-)
‘Friday in the Park with Stephen’
Stephen Strange x OFC; pre Infinity War; fluff with a little romance
14,000,604
sequel to ‘Friday in the Park with Stephen’; Stephen Strange x OFC; angst, a bit of hurt/comfort, romance, smut
Physician, Heal Thyself
explores the psychological effects of Stephen’s painstaking, devastating search for the one timeline to defeat Thanos (incomplete, as that theme is also explored in 14,000,604)
‘Faith is My Sword’
Stephen must travel back in time to Camelot, to gather information to help him defeat a modern day threat in the English countryside; needs updating
Stranger Things Have Happened...Haven’t They? -
told from The Cloak of Levitation’s point of view; possible tie-in to ‘Faith is My Sword’
Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight
Stephen Strange x OFC; very slow-burn romance, angst, pining, magic that heals old wounds, magic that heals the heart...and smut; this one is my Strangebatch opus, with many chapters yet to come
Tumblr media
An Unlikely Little Miracle
one-shot that inspired Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight; a mystical Healer from another world brings Stephen some relief for the constant pain in his hands
Lady in Red
Stephen must rescue his lady love (from the fic Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight) from a malevolent being bent on revenge; written in the style of an old-fashioned horror movie; currently incomplete, but I swear I’m going to finish it soon some day
Unnamed one-shot, inspired by this chapter of Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight
Stephen is left to raise his toddler daughter on his own, after  the untimely loss of her mother; lots of angst (tissues recommended), but there is love & hope in this story as well; please think of this as an alternate ending to OMMaM
Strangebatch Headcanons
(more titles under the cut)
Kisses as Soft as Butterfly Wings -
a Stephen Strange x Reader Imagine; incomplete
unnamed Stephen Strange x Reader (incomplete)
written in anticipation of Avengers: Endgame, so everyone lived; I may revisit it someday as an AU
A Different Kind of Magic
based on roleplay with @doctorstrangeaskblog  (update coming ?????)
Many thanks to @cumberbitchposting for the request, and to @doctorstrangeaskblog for also suggesting this recently!
