Hey, I know it's been awhile and unfortunately I won't be active in Tumblr often. But I just wanna know what's going on right? If you're okay about giving a small recap of the reason about having a new AU
Okay so there’s a couple reasons that I a) have this AU and b) am working on it instead of the Splat Chat.
First and foremost, Effervescent existed about a year before the Splat Chat, and while I wrote some stuff for it, I never shared anything for it. Effervescent was really the reason I got into writing fanfic, as that the story that I really, really wanted to tell. Back then, it just wasn’t very well put together, and I was not confident in what I had written. I also never worked on the old Effervescent fic consistently; I’d write 10k in a week, and then stop working on it for months. I ended up setting it aside for a while, as I was just not happy with how it was turning out.
Then Splatoon 3 came out, which I played day 1. That was my first time actually playing a Splatoon game (I was about to get splat2, but they announced splat3, so I decided to just wait ). I loved it, and then once I finished the story mode, I was reminded of my Effervescent fic, and I decided I wanted to give it another go. However, I had read a chat fic for another fandom that I really liked and decided that I first wanted to try writing a couple chapters of a chat fic as a warmup, and then I’d go back to Effervescent. So that’s what I did; I wrote a chatfic with some generic usernames and generic personalities, and figured I’d do like 5 chapters and call it done. I also decided to post it to AO3 since I liked how it turned out.
The Splat Chat got a much wilder reception that I could’ve ever hoped for. I loved having people vocally love my writing, so I wrote more and more, abandoning my intentions of writing for Effervescent and instead building out my own universe with the Splat Chat. I started building some lore, character quirks, and eventually named my agents. As we all know, the Splat Chat took off and became it’s own series, with the main fic and all the side stories.
So what happened? I kinda began to lose interest in the Splat Chat last summer. It got harder and harder to write for and think up plot. I really think I should’ve just ended the storyline after Raid Under Storm and Stress, but alas, I did not. The problem was that I never really had solid outlines for the Splat Chat, so I had very little direction besides some vague ideas in my head. Because I started losing interest in the Splat Chat, I ended thinking about Effervescent again. I went back to the old fic and began editing it again, with the intention of posting that. However, I soon realized that it was kinda not great, so I decided I would just rewrite it, and that’s what I did; I uploaded the prologue and chapter 1 in July, iirc.
Then I got caught up in moving out and trying to get ready for university, and I lost a lot of interest in writing in general. The only reason why I was able to post so much stuff for the Splat Chat anniversary was because I really kicked myself into overdrive to do it, because I had hyped it up so much and didn’t want to fall flat. But after that, I was really just exhausted with the Splat Chat universe and writing. I tried to get back into it for NaNoWriMo, but I ended up just getting back into Effervescent instead, and that’s when I started regularly updating that fic, and I’ve pretty much been focusing on writing for that universe since.
Why? Well, if I had to pick favorites between my AUs, it’s Effervescent. I actually have a really good outline and plan, so it feels much more cohesive, whereas the Splat Chat’s story was always messy. Effervescent is also the fic that I always wanted to write, whereas the Splat Chat just kinda… spiraled. I don’t always feel in control of the Splat Chat universe anymore. The Splat Chat just isn’t what it used to be, and I’ve had people point that out too. The cast is huge, the way the series and side fics are organized is horrendous, and it’s definitely a different fic that it was when it first started. I had someone comment that they didn’t like the new direction I was taking the series and they felt it was way too dark when I was working on the end of Amaranthine, and I got really discouraged by that. I was really trying to finish out my vision for that fic before I lost interest, but being told that it’s not what it should be really made me lose confidence in the Splat Chat series as a whole. It was the final nail in the coffin for my interest in the Splat Chat.
All in all, Effervescent was the story that I always wanted to tell, and I was just waiting for the right time. I do want to come back to the Splat Chat eventually, especially because I don’t want to leave a story unfinished when it was a fic a lot of people found solace in, but now’s just not the right time for me. At the end of the day, writing fanfic is just a hobby of mine, and I’m gonna write what I want to write.
Sorry that was certainly not a “small recap” but I think I needed to finally put an explanation down into words about what’s going on with my writing.

Hey, all! There's a lot of Splatoon art servers floating around but there are barely any for writers so I wanted to take a moment and share this one that I've been in for a while!
Ink Theory is a discord server made by @exhostar that primarily focuses on Splat writers, lore, and world building! It's a wonderful, welcoming little community full of some very talented writers! I've loved hanging out in there and hearing about everybody's cool ideas/ and analysis of game details!
Of course there are sections for art, music, and oc sharing too! But we mostly just talk about new ideas and concepts in the server.
If anyone's interested in joining, you can find the server link here:
Please be mindful of server rules! Organization is huge in here so remember to keep that in mind! As with any server, be sure to respect the mods! It's just a small team that's looking to keep the server peaceful and tidy!

Hi, I'm wondering how to engage with other artists and make friends in this community. I've been a splatoon fan for years but still don't have a single friend I can be excited about the game with. I really wanna know the best way to engage with people that won't creep them out so they'll like me. I love drawing stuff for people but since I'm not a good or popular artist people are more uncomfortable than grateful. I'm not sure what to do, I don't wanna spend splatoon 3's lifespan alone like I did for 2.
Also your art is really cool I'm glad to see you back again.
hi! sorry for taking so long to answer i just was thinking about how to go about this, but ultimately the way I at least got to know some people in the community was through group chats or events? I have no clue now a days if there's any splatoon discord groups that exists or whatnot, but i find a lot of people make connections that way!
To be honest, i've been very absent from the splat community as of late, only feeling the resurgence for splatoon 3, so honestly i feel a bit in the same boat? But how i made friends in the past, was often just interacting with people? Being invested in their ideas and art, helping people out, joining events or group chats, etc. But obviously, one can't ever expect friendship to be reciprocated, stuff just naturally Happens if things click! Sometimes i find that people get to know each other as familiar faces (icons?) via just, seeing and going to the same places regularly. whether that means the cool lore posts a person makes and the commenters are common supporters, or whether it's a group chat or small community, etc. But ultimately, there isn't really any one way "strategy" to make friends, but being in the same places and taking opportunities to interact increase those chances for sure!
As for the art thing, I can guarantee that most artists and people love receiving art from others. It's not creepy unless the expectation of reciprocation is attached to it, because people love receiving nice things and knowing that there's people out there that like their stuff enough for people to draw for them! Can promise the act of drawing for people because you want to, is 99% of the time going to make people happy as long as it's given with the simple and pure intention of liking someone's stuff and wanting to give people something nice. I don't think you should be afraid of gifting people art because as an artist, art gifts are a blessing, and i really appreciate the thought and time put into just random stuff i just happen to like to share. Sorry if this isn't the most helpful thing, but it's just my perspective on this. But giving to keep in mind, giving shouldn't be about the reciprocating process. Giving should just be...about giving!
Let people know that you agree, or really like what they have to say or really like their ideas! There's a decent chance that they might continue to talk because wow? someone actually cares about what i have to say? cool! and those passing conversations can sometimes turn into connections. But again there's no real fool proof strategy, and the feelings have to be genuine. i'm no "how to talk to people 101" pro handbook or anything, all this is just my insight. But given time, there will come along people you vibe with! I rlly hope you have a good time with this game and can share that happiness with people you get along with.

Excessive Behavior
 Being as real as that
Beyond many charm
More than watch for
And claim who ito be
Did restore once flat
Raised the tired arm
A good not to ignore
Which any could see
Even wanted to chat
Made the cold warm
Hoping could restore
Turn a sad With glee
 But before it to splat
Best to raise an alarm
An idea based on lore
To end up have to flee
Take time for really at
So later to be no harm
Any hurt behind adore

Miracles in Gotham: Chapter 7: A Brewing Storm
A/N: So, with Season 4 of Miraculous Ladybug officially starting, this is a reminder that this fanfic is non-compliant with any events after Season 3, even with the added lore in canon. I know this is also a crossover so that’s to be expected, but because this fic is also dealing with Miraculous lore, I feel the need to put this up. Please don’t comment about canon disproving any of the material here, because I am already fully aware of the fact. I don’t really care for the show anymore, and the only thing keeping me in the fandom are the fanworks. Like many in the Maribat fandom, I discovered the more vast lore of DC through this, so there is a mix-up of canon from different worlds/universes (e.g. Young Justice, New 52, and Prime Earth), I just don’t care enough to discern which wiki I’m getting my info from.
That said, thank you to everyone who is taking the time to read this fic, and I hope that you like it. An extra thank you to everyone who has given this a kudos, bookmarked, and/or commented. I appreciate you all so much.
Also, shout out to jackmand1, Sp8cefluff and BenRG who commented on ways to open the box (getting Bunnyx to get the tablet before Hawkmoth, and asking the box to open), which is all mentioned in Marinette’s diary entry.
If you want to see more, follow: #miraclesingotham or ask to be added to the tag list.

First Previous Next Fanfic
Dear Diary,
There’s still no luck with the Miracle Box. After we tried Chat’s idea of dropping it from the Louvre using the chew toy as a pressure point, we tried hitting it with our weapons (didn’t even make a dent!), Chat asked the box to “please open don’t close up on us like my dad did” (we had a talk about that but he didn’t want to delve too much into it, and it didn’t work), the kwami tried phasing through it (thank god kwami don’t get concussions), and we even tried contacting Bunnyx, but goodness knows where she is and after Chat Blanc, I didn’t really want to see her anyway. We gave up sometime in the early morning, and now it’s shoved in one of my luggage carts, ready to bring to Gotham tomorrow. I hope it doesn’t trigger any of the airport security.
In better news, it’s been a few days since Chat and I officially introduced our new Ladybug and Bee to the scene. For the most part, I think they’re doing well- better than I did when I first started, anyway. It took a bit of time for Luka and Kagami to get used to the new set up, but Chat and I were there to help them, so it wasn’t too bad. Luka, or Bleu Acier, took a while to get used to the yoyo (who knew Luka had a fear of heights?), but he’s gotten used to it...after we had to convince him he wasn’t going to splat into the pavement or anything like that. Kagami, who decided on the name Shūyō, had to adjust to short-range fighting and not using Venom too soon, but she managed to navigate the top and cause a lot of damage to the akumas that we dealt with in the last few days. I think Hawkmoth has some idea that Bustier’s class is on the move because we’ve had an akuma attack every day so far. I’m hoping it’s just Hawkmoth becoming more desperate, although hopefully Bleu Acier and Shūyō threw him off a little bit. As of right now, I’m using the Snake Miraculous as Couleuvre, so it’ll be easier to-
One moment, Marinette had been settled comfortably in her chaise, and the next, a large crash through her bedroom walls threw her across the room, her back hitting the wall hard enough that she felt pain upon impact. When the world around her gained focus, she spotted a large woman-like figure in front of the hole in her wall cackling. The woman’s glassy skin that was translucent, yet she could also see a muddled reflection of her own face. Upon her head she wore a heavy silver crown adorned with gems that was reminiscent of her skin and a white, flowy dress that trailed behind her from the waist. In her hand was an open contact mirror that contained no reflection except for her own blue-bell eyes.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng! I am Mistress Mirage! Soon, I will show you the darkest parts of yourself, the secrets you hide behind your so-called truths!” she bellowed, her voice echoing in Marinette’s ears. In the background, she could barely hear her parents’ muffled screams and bangs against her bedroom door.
“Who-” she hissed, trying to balance herself and stand up. “What did I do to you?”
As far as she knew, she hadn’t angered anyone in the last hour she had been home for lunch.
Mistress Mirage zoomed towards her, her face shoved near into hers, her burning cold fingers choked her. Marinette backed into the wall, grabbing onto Mirage’s marble wrists, a pain shooting up her spine. Marinette could only struggle in place, her legs kicking listlessly, as the glassy, bright green emeralds Mistress Mirage had for eyes stared into her very being. The longer she stared into the empty gems, trying .
“Your weaknesses, your darkest secrets will be mine, Dupain-Cheng.”
Her voice, tinkled within Marinette’s mind, and she watched as the woman’s glassy skin shifted and soon she was faced with a kaleidoscope version of herself, blue sapphires glinting harshly, her breaths now ragged and shallow.
“Wha-” Marinette tried taking a deep breath, but Mirage’s fingers tightened their hold. “Why?” she managed to weakly choke out.
“Doesn’t it bother you?” Mirage’s voice, no longer bellowing nor echoing, but now a whisper right in her ears, sounding eerily like her own. “That you aren’t enough? That you will never be enough?”
Marinette shook her head, trying to ignore the voice as it taunted her endlessly.
“What are you hiding, Marinette?”
“Why do you hide from the world?”
“How pathetic. You claim to hate liars,” Marinette felt Mirage’s fingers tighten around her. “But aren’t you a liar too?”
Tears stung the corner of her eyes. She didn’t know what was going on- Mistress Mirage wasn’t saying anything incriminating. If it were any other situation, she could brush off these accusations, but as Mirage continued to taunt her in her voice, doubts and fears, both new and old, she usually ignored were brought to the forefront of her mind.
‘I’ll fail as a Guardian- I’m not enough.
I’m abandoning my city to find a man who might not even be alive.
Chat Noir will never trust me again.
My parents want to send me away.
Why doesn’t Alya believe me?
Alya would’ve made a better Ladybug.
If Tikki could see me now she’d be disappointed.
What a failure I turned out to be.
“What a failure you turned out to be.”
Mistress Mirage’s emerald eyes glinted gleefully, a wide smile cracking into the glassy expanse of her skin. Her voice echoed Marinette’s thoughts and Marinette repeated her words as much as she could, her breathing becoming more shallow. Mistress Mirage couldn’t actually read any of Marinette’s secrets, however, she could read her psyche, a doubtful, anxious little thing, and she only said out loud what Marinette had already been telling herself to make her putty into Mirage’s hands. A neon violet butterfly appeared over her face, reminding her of her duty to get the Miraculous.
But for now, she had Marinette in her grasp. Once Marinette was in her trance, shaking slightly and mumbling nonsense as tears streaked down her cheeks, Mirage grabbed her and headed to the Trocadero, when three figures- black, steel blue and honey yellow- surrounded her in the middle of the street. The two new heroes stiffened at the sight of the girl in her arms. Chat snarled at Mistress Mirage.
“Marinette!” Chat yelled, rushing forward with his baton at Mistress Mirage. “What are you doing with her?!”
Mistress Mirage smirked. “If you want her, you’ll have to give me your Miraculous.”
She leapt out of the way only to stumble beside Shūyō who held her yellow top- flatter than Queen Bee’s with a long, black handle- the tip poised to the side of Mirage’s ribcage.
Before Shūyō could enact Venom however, Mirage turned and kicked the bee heroine away from her, holding out her compact mirror, creating a wall of mirrors that trapped Shūyō on the other side. She rearranged Marinette in her arms, ignoring the silent struggles of the bee thumping against the mirrored walls and swearing at her.
Chat Noir extended his baton towards Mistress Mirage. However, she jumped and landed on top of the baton, sending Chat sprawling through the air. Bleu Acier attacked at the same time. Mirage was quick and held out her compact to the two heroes, entrapping them in their own mirror dimension. The butterfly outline appeared again, and Mirage set off. She had special plans for Marinette.
Within the mirror dimension, Bleu and Chat were trying to navigate their way around crystallized walls which reflected everything around them. They had tried to find Shūyō, only to realize she was a reflection, then had almost been driven over by a car that had then disappeared.
“What is all this?” Chat muttered, nudging his surroundings. “It’s like, some of it are just reflections, but some of it is real.”
Bleu Acier nodded. “The reflections have to come from somewhere, so the real objects and people are in here somewhere.” He looked up and pointed a little ways forward. “Look, you can see our reflections.”
“Hope they’re getting my good side,” Chat quipped. “We have to get Shūyō and Marinette soon.”
Bleu Acier blinked, as he caught his yoyo when it hadn’t rebounded against a wall. “Do you know her personally?” He asked. He hadn’t been aware of Marinette’s close relationship with the Parisian heroes.
Chat gave a stiff nod. “She’s worked with Ladybug and I a few times. I met her when we fought Evillustrator.”
“So, do you and Ladybug often have civilians fight for you?” Bleu frowned. He scanned the area, and turned left.
“Only when we really need to,” Chat scoffed. “It’s not ideal, but it’s just me and m’Lady and sometimes we need help.”
Bleu could sense a resonating low, flat tone emanating from Chat. “That’s horrible. You guys look like you’re still kids.” Chat shrugged in response. As they walked onwards, investigating every inch of the way, Bleu noticed a figure dressed in a black and yellow-patterned fencing uniform, wearing a striped domino mask, thumping against a transparent wall. “Chat, look.”
Cat’s eyes widened at the sight. “Shūyō!” he yelled and rushed forward, only to be trapped in a corner with several reflections of the bug-themed heroine. Chat’s breath quickened. “Shūyō! Can you hear us?!”
Shūyō’ perked up and looked around. “I can! But where are you?” She shouted, her voice vibrating through the air.
“Shit.” Chat stared at his hand, before clenching it and turning towards Bleu. “I think we might need that Lucky Charm now.”
He nodded. “Lucky Charm!”
A bright red object with black spots dropped from the sky followed a series of chimes. Bleu Acier’s eyes widened as he held up the wind chime, eight hollow tubes ringing against the slapper in between, the clear, steady ringing piercing all around them. The wind chime was half the size of his torso, so fortunately, it was lighter than it looked.
It was a curious thing Ladybug had noted, that most of Bleu Acier’s Lucky Charms were sound or music-related.
“Well, this blows. You going to chime a pretty tune there, Bleu?”
He held back a chuckle. In the week he and Shūyō had been working with Chat and Ladybug, he had grown to appreciate Chat’s humour and the jaunty tune he associated with them.
“Maybe,” he said. Raising his voice, he addressed Shūyō. “Can you hear this?!” He asked, shaking the wind chime from its hanger.
They could see Shūyō’s reflection moving around, her eyes closed in concentration. “Sort of!” she answered, echoing slightly. “Are we able to use Chat Noir’s Cataclysm?!”
Bleu stared at Chat who was staring at his hand in deep thought. “Probably! We just need to make sure I’m not using Cataclysm on something real!”
“Maybe it is not my place to say as your junior, but this is not the time for hesitation!” Shūyō yelled back.
A beep echoed in Bleu’s ears. “We should hurry. I only have four minutes.”
Chat nodded. “Alright!” He looked around, scanning nearby walls until he found a reflection of himself- a sure way to make sure he hit the mirror. “Cataclysm!”
The walls around them crumbled in seconds, revealing the world around them. Chat smirked, and they scouted for Shūyō who met them in the middle.
“Why did you not use Cataclysm in the first place?” Shūyō asked, when they reconvened.
“I didn’t want to accidentally use it on the wrong thing,” he said, flexing his fingers. “Come on, we have less than five minutes. Don’t use Venom until you receive my signal.”
Shūyō nodded.
Chat turned to Bleu Acier and pointed to the wind chime. “Keep that on you and look out for opportunities.” He turned around and headed off. “Let’s go!”
In the end, Mistress Mirage was defeated quickly. In their absence, she had grown arrogant, and the three heroes found several clones of Mistress Mirage atop the Palais de Chaillot, a crowd having gathered at the bottom. Each clone had a Marinette bound in front of them, at the edge of the roof, standing listlessly. Despite this, Mistress Mirage was not prepared for the ambush of the three heroes. Bleu’s wind chimes were used as a distraction for the real Mistress Mirage while Chat and Shūyō attacked from behind.
“Shūyō! Use it now!” Chat yelled, as he grabbed Marinette and set her down on the ground below, and allowed the paramedics to deal with her.
“Venom,” Shūyō muttered. She dropped beneath Mirage and her top, stabbing her opponent beneath her ribcage. “Gotcha.”
Mistress Mirage froze mid-air, one leg in the air and both hands outstretched. Chat’s eyes widened when he didn’t see her holding the akumatized object. Chat pounced back onto the roof, ignoring the second beep from his ring. He noticed the satin sash that was wrapped around her waist.
“Shūyō, the akumatized object is the mirror she carries around. It should be in her sash,” he said, his cheeks tinged pink. “Can you- uh-?”
Shūyō nodded. “I do not understand your need for modesty at such a time, but it is commended.”
Chat’s cheeks reddened further. “It’s just polite! I don’t want to be touching anyone without their consent!”
Shūyō took out the compact mirror that had been tucked into the sash just above her left hip. She tossed it to Bleu Acier who quickly broke it and captured the akuma.
“It’s just the principle of it!” Chat squawked as the trail of tiny red ladybugs flowed throughout Parisian skies.
She snorted. “I understand. I was just teasing.” She turned to nod at Bleu then at Chat. “You two are close to de-transforming. I will bring both victims home.” Shūyō then grabbed Lila, who had been the akuma and was now disoriented, and jumped down to retrieve Marinette.
When Marinette had woken up from the akuma attack, she had been escorted home by Shūyō, who had fussed over any injuries she may have gotten before eventually leaving with a pack of honey macarons. Marinette smiled. Chat had made a good choice with Kagami. After, she had endured cuddles and hugs from her parents who were now even more determined to get her out of Paris.
Later that evening, after reassuring her parents and making sure the kwami were okay. She headed off to patrol where she had to answer for her absence, and where Chat had regaled how they did. Marinette smiled, knowing she made the right choice. After the patrol, which had been less of a patrol and more of a small goodbye ceremony, she returned home and recorded the events in her diary, slowly anticipating the trip.
The next day, she had just made it to the airport an hour before boarding. Everyone had gone through the usual airport processes and she was the last to arrive with her passport and airplane tickets in her carry-on shoulder bag. When she arrived to the waiting area where her friends were (with Adrien’s bodyguard nearby playing on his phone), she was met with a lot of mixed reactions.
Alya had rushed over and hugged her, frantically asking if she was okay. Several classmates had joined her, like Rose, Juleka and Mylene. She hugged them back and reassured them that she was alright, and wasn’t going to jump off roofs anytime soon (though she didn’t remember that from yesterday anyway). They then moved on and Alya asked her a question that stopped her in her tracks.
“Why were you arguing with Lila yesterday, anyway?” Alya asked, leading the two of them to sit down.
Marinetter furrowed her eyebrows and frowned. “What are you on about? I’m not talking to Lila at all.”
Alya frowned. “She told us that’s why she was akumatized yesterday. Apparently you called the mirror she got from Bruce Wayne as a birthday gift, fake.”
Marinette forced herself to not roll her eyes. “What? Why would I care about anything like that? She’s lying!”
Alya frowned even more. “Lila said you’d probably say that. Why can’t you two just get along?”
“Alya, you’re the one that believes Lila has a lying illness. Why don’t you believe me when I say she’s lying and that I didn’t even see her at all yesterday outside of class?” Marinette tensed. How petty did Lila think she was? How petty was Lila?
“She did get akumatized yesterday. Her story matches the events,” Alya said. “Marinette, you’re my best friend. That’s why I want to know why you did what you did.”
Marinette snorted. “And I’m telling you, I didn’t do anything. Is this what the whole class believes? That I’m so shallow that I would akumatize Lila over something as trivial as a mirror?”
Alya blanched. “No, of course not. We’re just saying you two had an argument and Lila got upset enough to turn into an akuma. We’re not saying it was intentional on your part or anything.”
She sighed, her shoulders sagging. “Look, my version of events is that I went home for lunch, was in my bedroom, got attacked by the akuma, and was out for it until that Bee hero Shūyō brought me home. Believe what you want, but don’t expect me to apologize to Lila for something I didn’t do.”
Marinette stood up and was about to go before she was stopped by Alya grabbing her wrist. She looked back and watched as Alya looked down at her clenched fist, biting her lip.
“I,” Alya sighed. “I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but I’m not saying I don’t believe Lila either. Either way, both of you were the victims yesterday. I’m sorry I was asking you stuff like that.”
Marinette frowned and sat back down. She wasn’t sure what was happening between her and Alya. Alya had been spending more time with Lila, even ending up as her seatmate on the plane and her roommate for the hotel. It made Marinette uncomfortable that they were becoming so close, considering who Lila was. But, Alya was a good person- she just wanted her friends to get along, and it’s not like she could force Alya to cut off her other friendships, even if it was to manipulative lying rats like Lila. That had to be on Alya’s terms. All Marinette could do was be there for her and hope she’d return the sentiment.
She forced a smile. “You’re forgiven.” Alya looked up and smiled, reaching out to hug her. “Now, let’s hang out for a bit before we’re stuck in a plane for twelve hours.”
Alya smiled back. “Yeah! By the way, did you hear that Jagged Stone knows Bruce Wayne?”
And just like that, they had spent the rest of the hour waiting to board the place. The plane that would take them to whatever was awaiting them in Gotham City.
A/N: So that's the end to the first arc I guess, if I intentionally have arcs lol. The rest of this fanfic will be in Gotham. Thank you again for joining me this far and I hope you continue to read it!
Other notes: Bleu Acier is based on the Steelblue Ladybird, with Bleu Acier meaning Steel Blue. Shūyō has three meanings in Japanese, but here, it’s used to mean self-discipline (because that’s something I associate with bees and hard workers). Couleuvre is just another way to say snake in French because Marinette sucks at names.
P.S. I don't hate Alya. In fact, I think we often brush over the fact that Alya is fiercely loyal and in the show, doesn't have all the facts so she's not too suspicious of Lila.

More Q&A – because YOU requested it! Well, maybe not you personally, but we sure did get a great response to last week’s blog…So We’re Doin’ It Again!
“But seriously, why is International shipping so high on the KSs?”
What backers are seeing from us on the Kickstarter pages are the shipping numbers we have received from our fulfillment partners, and no, they aren’t inflating them and we aren’t inflating them – those are what we are hearing from shippers like Fedex and USPS and others.
The fact is: we are not Amazon. We aren’t C’Mon Games or other companies that send out a massive volume of packages. We’re in the same boat as a lot of TTRPG companies, many of whom are dropping international shipping entirely. Instead, we made the call to give our backers the up-front info so they can make intelligent decisions, while we continue to search for less costly shipping options.
“Why aren’t all Storypath Games the same?”
I’m assuming that this is in reference to the Storypath System, and not the settings for each game line that uses it. Because that’s the only way the question makes sense to me.
One of my goals with the Storypath System was that it be flexible enough to work as the basis for any game we care to create with it, and part of that design was that the basic system would then have additional rules attached to it depending on the game line’s needs.
Or, here is more from Eddy Webb, who has been overseeing the Storypath games, as well as doing design work on the system. He sez:
Each game takes the core system and tweaks it in a variety of ways to better emphasize what’s important in that game. A game about myths like Scion doesn’t need comprehensive weapon mechanics, but a game about salvaging equipment like Dystopia Rising does.
Basically, Storypath was never intended to be exactly the same with every line that uses it, like a generic system, but to allow a base level of familiarity so players just need to look into specific, game line intrinsic, additional rules.
“Why won’t you publish all the Clan/Tribe/Tradition/etc books again?”
OK, that’s a multi-part answer, so let me unpack a bit on this one.
First, and very specifically, we aren’t recreating the “Splat books” as we do new editions because those lil’ books aren’t cost-effective to create with our current publishing model. We do however, love to gather the “splats” into larger books like we’ve already done with Lore of the Clans, or Lore of the Bloodlines.
Which brings us to the second part of this, which is what I touched on in last week’s blog, which is that we don’t have carte-blanche to create just any WoD (or CofD or Exalted) books that we want to create. We have to have their pitches approved by our licensor, White Wolf/Paradox, before we can do any work at all on projects.
So what I’m saying is that we wouldn’t just recreate the old splat books, but we would do a differently formatted version, and that version still needs to be greenlit by our licensor. And right now, that has not happened.
Aeon Aexpansion art by Pat McEvoy
“Why are there approvals stages for Scion or Scarred Lands- don’t you own those?”
The business productivity answer is that we try and keep our processes the same in game book creation to make them go through the stages consistently.
The RichT answer is that I want to be able to review, tweak, and fine-tune the game lines my company owns. I mean, I do it with our licensed game lines, so by crackee, I’m doing with my own durn games!
“What stores carry your books?”
Y’know, I don’t actually know all of them at this point! What we hear from our sales partners at Studio2 and Indie Press Revolution, is that more and more stores are ordering as they become aware that we are putting select books into the distribution/retail channel.
So the notices I see are focused on which distributors have ordered what, although I do still get a chance to chat with retailers who pledge during our Kickstarters. Some of those folks have been with us since our first KSs, like our friends at Trollune in France, and more come on board with each KS.
Mighty Matt McElroy is a lot more hands-on with stores and retailers, and maybe we’re at the point where he’d be willing to pull together some sort of Retailer list we could post on this site. I will ask him very, very, nicely if such a thing could be added to his already massive workload.
But be sure that we truly appreciate each and every order from retailers that our sales partners receive. A Friendly Local Game Store is one of the best places to learn about all sort of games, new and old, and we’re glad we were able to figure out a way to once again get books into those shelves!
And if your FLGS doesn’t yet know that they can order books from their favorite distributor like Changeling: The Lost 2nd Edition, or Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero, or Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau and others, with even more yet to come like V5 Chicago By Night and the Trinity Continuum books, then please, let them know, let us know, let the world know, that you want them to order our books for you!
Witch Queen art by Nate Pride
“What are YOU excited about that’s coming from Onyx Path?”
Scion: Demigod and Titanomancy to continue the core Scion mythological experience, and Dragon and Mythos to show how Scion has potential beyond that experience. Trinity Continuum: similarly, very excited to bring back Aeon and Aberrant as lines and especially to revisit Adventure! and deliver an exciting game that emulates all the Pulp Genre excitement that I’ve loved during countless hours reading Doc Savage and The Avenger, but in a way that’s compelling for a modern audience. Then, to finally expand from the three original game lines to other time periods and genres with new games that we’re working on but haven’t announced yet.
Legendlore is another game line I’m really looking forward to. In fact, I think the developed text should be coming my way later this week, or next week, and I can’t want to see what Steffie De Vaan and team have done to take this long-established world and bring it up-to-date and relevant like I mentioned about TC: Adventure!
White Wolf gamelines: For CofD, I’m champing at the bit to start sharing Deviant: The Renegades during its Kickstarter. I’ve loved the concept of the wronged seeking revenge for what was done to them since the project was conceptualized, and Dave and Eric and crew have really delivered on that premise, and more! It’s gut-wrenching, horrific, but also empowering!
For Exalted 3rd, I’m really glad we’re finally doing the Storyteller’s Guide, which combined with another book we’re waiting to hear back on from WW, will provide players and prospective Storytellers with a lot of answers and material that fill in some of the blanks in the core EX3 rulebook. Hopefully, these sections will allow even more players to “get” Exalted 3rd, and so they’ll all want to GET Exalted 3rd!
And, of course, I really can’t expand on much for WoD without the OK from WW/Paradox, but we’ve been so thrilled by the reaction to the V5 Chicago By Night Backer PDF that I’m really looking forward to the next WoD projects from Matthew Dawkins, as well as finally delivering our outstanding 20th Anniversary projects!
Distant Worlds art by Rutledge
They Came From…!: Speaking of Matthew, he is gravely hard at work digging into new sources of fun and inspiration for the follow-up They Came From game, and I’m such a fan of the whole genre/time period it covers that I can’t wait to read it!
Creature Collection 5e: for Scarred Lands looks to be gorgeous! I’m both jealous that Johnny Hodgson was able to pull together so many fantastic artists, and thrilled that our efforts with his Handiworks Games is producing such a fantastic book. Look for its KS soon!
These aren’t advertising blurbs here folks! I truly am excited to be able to bring all of these game lines to life, and to be part of bringing them to all of you – as well as those poor misguided souls who don’t yet read this scintillating blog, or know of our:

Thus spawning whole rafts of longbow lovin’ moments in gaming! (Also can be seen as a victory for the common man that will echo through history and turn out even more badly for the French nobility 400-some years later).

Game Devs, Take Note: These are the 12 Reasons the “Octo Expansion” for Splatoon 2 Features My Favorite End-Game of All Time
Tumblr media
Splatoon has never been a series that people buy for the single player experience; the campaigns of 1 and 2 are not overly challenging, the rewards for completing them are underwhelming, and the levels are rarely interesting.
All this changed with the Octo Expansion. While first making a poor first impression with frustrating levels and a dreaded “pay to play” model (don’t worry, you use in-game currency only), the story mode ends up vastly outshining anything else the series has put forth, especially in the game’s final moments. Here are the 12 reasons why I loved the end of the Octo Expansion way more than I expected.
NOTE: Major spoilers for everything that follows your collection of the final “thang.”
Tumblr media
The Climax is Challenging but Not Overly Frustrating- I died, a lot, but always inched closer to victory. Plus, the game wisely stops requiring you to pay for continues in this final gauntlet of challenges.
The Story’s Resolution is Ominous- A sense of dread hangs over the game’s final levels. After nearly getting blendered to death (shudder), you begin your escape up to Inkopolis, but slowly realize that each level you are playing refers to internal organs, hinting that you are actually inside some massive creature
It Changes Things Up without Taking the Game off the Rails- Too many AAA titles decide to totally change the gameplay of the final battle, presumably to keep the player on their toes. However, this doesn’t ever feel all that satisfying. Octo Expansion’s final missions are thankfully no longer confined to isolated test chambers, but you are still using the skills and techniques you’ve mastered in the previous 80 levels.
Every Character Gets a Moment to Shine- (Except Captain Cuttlefish, which is honestly hilarious)
It Gradually Makes You Feel More and More Powerful- First you are weaponless. Then, you find grenades. Then a rifle. Soon you are zipping around with Jetpacks. It’s a wonderful slow build.
Tumblr media
The Lore is Expanded in Fascinating Ways- Revealing the final villain to be a human (of sorts) literally made me gasp, and it was really nice to see Agent 2 from the first Splatoon back in action (even if he/she is an adversary)
It’s Not a Quick Time Event- These were really overdone for final battles a few years ago, in a lazy attempt to make everything more cinematic. Some games are still guilty of taking the easy way out.
It Puts Your Actual Splatoon Skills to the Test- The battle with a brainwashed Agent 2 made me feel like I was actually facing off against a super-powered online opponent. All my tricks I had mastered playing years of Turf War and Ranked Matches were finally put to good use. And the final battle being a bombastic version of Turf War (all the way down to the 3 minute timer) made the multiplayer and single player modes feel a little less disjointed.
It’s SO Anime- The giant human-statue about to annihilate all of Inkopolis while you zip around on rails and detonate super bombs all over its body is epic while still keeping the player in the driver’s seat
Tumblr media
The Music is Just Perfect- An amazing remix of Ebb & Flow pumps you up for the showdown, and if you read all the chat logs you know how important this song is to Pearl and Marina’s friendship, adding one more layer of oomph to an already great track.
There are a ton of little details to appreciate- The way that the “Splatted Agent 2” icon pops up like it does in regular multiplayer matches. The realization that the doomsday weapon is a bunch of blenders fused together. The triumphant return of Killer Wail, and the way Pearl absolutely shatters the “GOOD GUYS v. BAD GUYS” meter. This game really rewards fans who are paying close attention.
It Feels Ultra Rewarding- When you are done watching the sunset with your brothers (and sisters) in arms, you are treated to a unique title screen: Inkopolis from the perspective of the subway entrance. Agent 8 has earned her freedom, and you the player have earned a new character race to play, and depending on how much of a completionist you are, up to 10 unique clothing items to take into online battles.
Tumblr media
If every game had finales that accomplished these 12 achievements, I think we’d all be way more likely to finish what we start. Bravo, Hisashi Nogami. You and your team done good.

All Things Sent to the Pit
January 18, 2020 - OIS Ctech Game Notes
Agents present - Te'ani, Alan, Ryan, Liv
March 14, 2085
For the next couple of days we follow up on other cases while the Director taps GIA agents to keep tabs on surveillance. One of the GIA agents contacts us in reference to one of our outstanding BOLOs - he found a place hit by someone wielding a bow and arrow. The perp's description is a tall, thin man wearing a wide-brimmed conical hat, wearing a long flowing cloak. The picture they were able to get, everything except him is in focus; but his features are blurred.
The address we're given for his last known location was a block of abandoned warehouses near the dock where the Migou blank ship was destroyed. We move through the warehouse district to get to the last known location - most of the overheard conversations are requests to take off for the day early.
We find the location of the photo, but considering it's been almost two hours, we don't actually expect to find the guy in the area. From what we could see in the photo, it seemed that he disappeared around a corner...
Well, around the corner is a dark alley. A dark, ominous alley... Te'ani volunteers Liv to be lead point! (Thanks Te'ani) About midway down the alley, there is an open door. Liv attempts to stealth but... it is pretty obvious she isn't very good at it. She decides to check out the door, a peek in and an arrow goes whizzing by her head.
Liv says, "Hey, I think he's here." Te'ani asks, "How can you tell?" She points at the arrow in the wall.
The guys decide to make the trip down the dark alley to join Liv. Ryan enters the building, but sees nothing. Jack climbs to the roof, surprising the perp and alerting the others to his location. "Contact on the roof!"
Alan siccs his weeping orb on the perp while the rest of the team joins Te'ani on the roof. The perp does a quick disappearing act before reappearing and sending a grenade over via arrow. Ryan hits him, then Liv brings him over to join the team. Te'ani requests he "drop his weapon" but Liv has him in a tight grip and he's unable to do anything.
We call in the capture to the Director, who seems surprised ("He's alive?! Holy shit... good job team."). Instead of bringing him in, he sends us a location to meet a Pit crew. It's a location we already know - a specialized cargo train. The team is in power armour - they unload a gigantic 10x10 cube. The guy is struggling to get away, but can't. Entering the cube... Liv's powers are gone. The guy's too - he seems to deflate a little.
The Pit crew take the bow and arrow, load the cube back up within ten minutes before they're gone.
Back at the office, the Director is really proud of the job we did. We took out a guy so dangerous that we didn't take it in, they came out to us.
While speaking with the Director, Ricky shows up looking nervous. Well, more nervous than usual. He was contacted by the people that sent him the note about George. They claim they're friends; one of the names is familiar - Temani. So, it seems his team survived Alaska.
They've set up a place to meet in two days time (March 16, 2085). The Director is calling in all teams not on critical assignments to attend. These guys are dangerous and have become a serious thorn in his side.
In the two days lead-up, we are tasked with counter-surveillance at the cafe. Nothing seems unusual about the location - everyone seen is registered, and those that are questionable... really aren't on our radar.
March 16, 2085
Everyone's in place and waiting - the cafe crew and patrons have been replaced by agents. Ricky shows up, taking a seat near the back of the cafe, twiddling his thumbs and looking obviously nervous.
A half hour later, he's on his third cup of coffee when a group of four familiar people walk in. The human woman looks around, points out Ricky - "That's our man." One is watching the door (Temani - N.M), one orders (Stone - N.M), and the other two (Weaver - H.F, 8Bit - N.F) take a seat with Ricky.
They begin chatting, saying they found his journals in the Nightmare Vale. As they continue talking, he's getting more and more nervous.
// Known Lore - The Nightmare Vale is where gugs are trapped in the Dreamlands. It's also rumoured where nightgaunts and ghouls originate. Gugs have four arms. Ghouls are often mistaken for undead.
Gugs are seen often in the Ralpine Storm and NASTY. They're known to use tech and magic when needed. They have been known to take on mechs in hand to hand combat and win. //
Weaver mentions that George mentioned him and that is how they knew to contact Ricky. The Director makes his move and approaches.
The threat of all the agents with their guns didn't seem to phase Weaver. The six SPLAT armours that burst through the wall.... does.
She attempts to contact Isaac Sage, surprisingly enough. The Director takes over the pip and has a short conversation with the man before hanging up and telling her - "Now you're ours." Weaver does not look happy in the slightest, but they all surrender. The group is taken away under heavy guard (Ryan is with the security detail).
A short conversation with Ricky after they're taken away reveals he has NO IDEA of what they're talking about and has no idea of what's going on. Liv suggests that he travelled there during the time he doesn't remember/the time he disappeared (for a year and a day).
This Weaver seems to be an unregistered mage of some kind; Alan is interested in those journals - which takes a lot more time than a year to write. Liv suggests, "Look for a way to the Nightmare Realm?"
There is the suggestion that this Weaver is the same one that George mentions summoned him. Also, it was mentioned to the Director the Nightgaunt "prophecy" - "The time of the tick-tock is coming. The war between Death and Four-Arms is starting but already happened."
The Director promises that the Pit interrogator will have many POINTED questions for them and whether they survive the experience will be up to them.

Someone on the Walking Safety Hazards definitely owns a motorcycle, and Zenni is definitely banned from riding on it with them.
