SPAGONIA October 2
> Tornado Defense Act 1
(Use the joystick to move the Tornado-1 to targeted spots on the Egg Cauldron where Tails is automatically firing, meanwhile use the Square or Circle button [ps3 version] to have Knuckles and Sonic knock away Missiles.)
As the trio fly overhead towards Spagonia, they’re suddenly ambushed by Eggman on his Egg Cauldron.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once they reach Spagonia, they bolt over to the university. Tails opens the door to the Professor's room, and pauses at the scattered paper and books all across the floor. With a human male hiding behind a tipped over table. He pokes his head out and sighs of relief seeing Tails, the human turns out to be the Professor’s Assistant.
The Assistant explains that the Professor has been kidnapped by Eggman a few days before the Earthquake. Sonic and Knuckles look pissed, while Tails and Chip are concerned. Tails is worried for the Professor’s safety (and wasting time getting to Spagonia just to find out he’s been kidnapped), while Chip is terrified that he’s starving to death. Tails reassures Chip that even Eggman isn’t cruel enough to not feed his prisoners.
The Assistant says that they can stay in a dorm room at the University for the night so they can fly out to save the Professor tomorrow morning, but Sonic (finally out of his raging ramble about Eggman) sighs and predicts that Eggman is about to move the Professor somewhere else. He ambushed them getting here, so he’s gotta know that they’re looking for him now. If they don’t find him by the end of tonight, they might never get him.
Tumblr media
The 4 head outside of the University to ask the civilians if they might know where Eggman took the Professor. Sonic got distracted when he came across a candy shop, deciding to restock Tails’ constantly dwindling pile of mints. He also spots some Chocolate Bars, and buys a few to see if Chip would like them.
As predicted, the little fairy loved it.
Tumblr media
Knuckles finds intel that someone heard a radio from one of Eggman's Badniks that he was going to Mazuri. So after everyone picked up a quick sandwich for dinner, they hopped onto the Tornado-1 to fly over to Mazuri.
MAZURI October 2-3
While flying out to Mazuri, Tails attempts to apologize to Sonic for wasting time, but Sonic simply wasn’t having it. Pointing out that this is Eggman’s fault, Tails didn’t know there was something Gaia related, and he didn’t know that the Professor got kidnapped. Tails thinks to himself that he’s the smart one, he’s supposed to know everything for the team, but just agrees to not upset Sonic anymore.
Tumblr media
They had to make a quick landing just a town over to the very obvious base Eggman has built so that Sonic can change form without the fear of him accidentally falling off the plane.
Sonic nervously waits for Knuckles’ reaction, but he just asks if Sonic’s hurt. He signs ‘no’ and they continue on their journey on foot. Knuckles does have many questions, but they have a time sensitive mission at stake and questions can be put on hold until then.
Tumblr media
>Mazuri Night Act 1
(Basically exactly how the original game went down, but Tails and Knuckles are there to help you fight now. Knuckles is a good hitter for the base enemies and grabs their attention away from Sonic while Tails does chip damage and hits arial enemies. There is plenty of dialogue in the level.) Through the dialogue, Sonic begins to slowly warm up to the idea of the werewolf form (they're still debating on what to call it) while Tails tries to lift his mood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once they make it to Professor Pickles prison, he starts a long monologue about how bad Eggman makes his Cucumber Sandwiches. Knuckles comments about how bland it sounds and the two quilled brothers talk about how they’d improve the sandwich while Tails flies over to help the Professor get out, muttering to Chip that it’s an acquired taste, but he does add that he throws a little bit of mint to his sandwich whenever the Professor doesn’t look.
Tumblr media
After the Professor is saved, Knuckles ends up having to stop him from storming up to the Mad Doctor himself to say a few words about his culinary catastrophe.
Meanwhile, Sonic gets the map from the vault, knowing that if Eggman has anything locked away that it must be important.
Tumblr media
Now that the Professor is saved and that they’re heading back to the University, Knuckles feels that he can finally ask the questions that have been plaguing his mind. Pretty much every single question is Dungeons and Dragons related, but a few are about how strong Sonic is now. In short, it was a long flight back to Spagonia for the speedster.
Tumblr media
SPAGONIA October 3
Finally back at the University with the Professor and Gaia Manuscripts in hand, the group head over to Professor Pickles Office to get as much information from him as possible (and enjoy some tea).
The Professor tells of a repeated legend that has been going on since the planet was born. That there is an entity in the planet's core that has caused all of the monsters to show up and the planet splitting apart.
Tails is keeping note and asking questions such as ‘How do we put the planet back together?’ and ‘Do you think this could be connected to why Sonic changes into this form every night?’
The Professor then tells about the mythical ‘Temples of Gaia’ which used to house the Chaos Emeralds thousands of years ago. He points at a part of the scripture and says that it tells of a being that traveled to each Temple and restored the planet's pieces.
He claims that he has managed to translate and spot one of the Gaia locations, but still has yet to decipher the rest. The Professor then turns to a map on his wall and points at a pinned location. Tails and Sonic immediately realize that it’s ‘Mazuri’.
Tumblr media
Before the duo could high-tail it back to the Tornado, they’re stopped by Knuckles and Chip at the door, demanding that they get some rest. Knuckles reminds everyone that the Assistant gave them all a dorm room to rest up in, and they have all deserved a rest after today.
Tumblr media
So after they wash up (with Sonic promising he’ll do it in the morning when he knows he won’t clog up the drains), they all get comfortable on the bed and rest. It seems that the Assistant gave them a room fit for Mobian sized well… Mobians. So it became a tight fit with Sonic taking up extra space. He suggested that he could just sleep on the floor, but Knuckles immediately sits down next to him with Tails by his side. So no escape, huh.
With Sonic being slightly more comfortable with his nightly form (aka feeling like he might not immediately harm someone by accident), he’s a little more okay with Tails being closer. But he still makes sure to keep his mouth firmly shut and his hands far away from the others.

Nine Finds Sonic Boom
Nine discovers a web of multiverses beyond the shatter space. What if that lead him to Sonic Boom?
Nine has been in search of a new home. Somewhere safer, somewhere more kind to him. He is content with settling for a universe in the shatter space, but when he discovers a beyond, he can’t help himself! Nine chooses a portal and goes through it, being warped to a sandy beach. He gets out of his shuttle and sticks his feet in the sand for the very first time.
Nine kicks up some sand, mystified by it. Then he turns around and sees the ocean and the bright blue sky. Sonic wasn’t kidding! There is a blue sky somewhere! Nine zones out staring into the ocean.. this is truly incredible! He never knew there could be so much water in one place. He notices the buildings behind him and hopes whoever is there doesn’t mind him chilling out here for a bit.
Nine sits in the sand, picking some up and dropping it. He decides to start piling some up cause why not?
“Tails??”
Nine turns around and to his shock, he sees Sonic! But taller, looking a bit tired, and has a bandana. Sonic approaches Nine looking just as shocked as he feels “how did you get here so fast? I JUST left you at meh burger. Did you find some way to beat my speed and not tell me?? Low blow, dude.” Sonic crosses his arms, then notices somethings off about Tails. He starts looking him up and down. Nine backs up “I’m… why do you keep calling me TAILS? You got a problem?” Nine raises his 7 other tails to threaten Sonic, who’s eyes widen and he backs away.
“Oh! Ah.. sorry? You just look a lot like someone I know. A LOT.” Sonic scratches behind his head a little embarrassed. Nine lowers his defences “I could say the same about you.. except the guy you remind me of would have already ran a hundred circles around me, and this.. weird. Place. He can’t sit still to save his life.”
“He sounds pretty cool! What’s his name?”
“Sonic.”
Pause. What? Sonic looks puzzled “but.. that’s. My name..?” Now they’re both confused. Out of all the places Nine has visited, he’s never seen another Sonic.
“Why is the multiverse lacking in Sonics..?” Nine mumbles to himself, trying to think.
Suddenly they hear someone approaching. “Sonic, did you find the-“ it’s Tails himself. The two foxes stare at each other for a moment before Tails rushes over “wow!! You’re me!! This is so neat!” Tails is immediately observing Nine, circling around him. Nine shrinks back “I guess I am.. you? Sorry. Just. Give me a moment to think here.” Tails stops. Then looks at the shuttle. Then back at Nine. Then back at the shuttle. He has so many questions.
Sonic leads Nine over to a beach chair “here, sit down. Collect your bearings.” Sonic sits on another chair, and Tails sits right next to him.
Nine looks back at the ocean “I’ve never seen.. anything like this before.. a large capacity of water and a blue sky. I.. I thought Sonic was pulling my leg.” He says sadly. Sonic pauses to think about what to say. Tails goes right into “what.. universe did you come from?” Tails can’t imagine a world without blue skies.
Nine looks back at Tails “back home, the sky is some shade of red. Polluted with factories and smog.. it’s been like that for as long as I can remember.. The Chaos Council took anything colourful that was said to have existed.” “The Chaos Council?” Sonic asks”
“The Chaos Council. They’re a group of 5 dictators that rule over the world with an iron fist.” Nine says. The other two are bewildered “where have I been this entire time?” Sonic asks, a bit disappointed with his other self. Nine shrugs “I don’t know. I met him when he somehow found my lab. He started calling me Tails and talking about blue skies, palm trees, Mr. Doctor Eggman, him and I being friends and beating up Mr. Doctor Eggman.. and even about saving me from bullies. The only part that I remember.. is being bullied. But he wasn’t there. I went through so many beatings just for having an extra tail..”
Tails notes all this down in his head. Sonic lowers his head “thats.. wow. You’ve been through it, kid.”
Tails asks “is your Sonic from another universe?” Nine nods “from all the evidence I’ve collected thus far, yes. And he somehow can’t get back. He looked very stressed out when he met me and the rebellion soldiers and we didn’t even know him. Yet.. he’s still facing everyone with so much optimism it makes me want to slap him sometimes.” Tails laughs and Sonic looks shook.
“AHEM.” The group turn to look at the entrance path to the beach from the village. There stands an unamused Amy, an annoyed Sticks, and Knuckles who’s just happy to be involved. Amy walks right over to Sonic and Tails and glares at them “you left to find my tip wallet, and you never came back! I told you exactly where it was, how hard is it to-“ she spots Nine who’s staring at her in.. so much confusion. Nine’s tails raise in defence. Amy gasps “oh hello! Tails I thought you weren’t gonna mess with the multiverse again.” “I’m not!” Tails stands up “Amy, Sticks, Knuckles, this is other me from some dystopian universe.”
Sticks gives Nine an ‘I’m watching you.’ Look. Knuckles goes and crouches next to Nine “hello other Tails! Aww, you’re so cu-“ Knuckles reaches to pat Nine on the head, but is interrupted by one of Nines mechanical tails slapping his hand away. Knuckles holds his wrist in pain. Nine growls “do that again, and you lose your hand.”
Stick pulls Knuckles back “see! This is what technology does to people! It turns them into crazy whack-a-doos! This is the future people! Wake up!” she yells. Nine looks at Tails who gives him a sympathetic look.
Amy leaves to go make Nine some tea. The others (excluding Sonic) help Nine build enough confidence to approach the ocean. Sticks runs into the ocean. Knuckles smiles gently at Nine. Nine has never seen Knuckles smile ever. Tails says “try touching it!” Tails crouches down and sticks his hand in the water. Sticks pops up from under the water with some seaweed on her head “its not gonna hurt ya. As long as you know how to swim, and don’t drink it.” Nine cautiously dips his hand into the water. It’s cold! He takes off his shoes and socks to wade into the water like everyone else. His tails are water-proof so they don’t have to worry about that.
A splash fight begins! It continues until Amy comes back with the tea. Everyone rushes out to enjoy it. Nine learns that he really likes peppermint tea! Amy gives him some tea bags to take with him on his travels.
Nine tells his story. The others are incredibly saddened to hear that Nine is from a careless dangerous world lead by such terrible people. Sticks also goes on a rant about the dangers of technology.
As Nine is explaining the Chaos Council members, Knuckles interrupts him “they sound a lot like if Eggman just separated into 5 different people.” Sonic groans “one is enough! Who decided that 5 Eggheads would be a good idea?” Nine shrugs “one of them is a literal baby.” “Hah, what??” Sonic snickers “yep. A small very angry tyrannical baby.” Sonic bursts out laughing “I think that council literally is Eggman in 5 people!”
Sticks asks something that’s been bothering her “if you’re not called Tails, what IS your name?”
“Nine.” Nine says
Sonic says without thinking “why, cause you’re like, nine?”
There’s a brief moment of silence before Nine is lunging at Sonic. Knuckles has to hold him back. Sonic has to say sorry a bunch of times while the others scold him for inappropriate timing.
Nine cools down and raises his tails “no. It’s because I have nine tails.” There’s mutters of “oh yea I get it” across the group.
Suddenly, laughing in the distance. Eggman pulls up in his eggmobile alongside some badniks. Nine is glad that the shard is hidden inside his shuttle.
The others get into battle positions.
“What is it, Egghead??” Sonic demands, upset that he would interrupt a visit like this.
Eggman laughs “oh I just feel like I haven’t been thrashing you enough lately! It’s been too long, Sonic!”
“ITS BEEN A DAY!”
“Potato potahto. Robots A-.. wait is that another Tails?”
Eggman takes a second to stare at Nine who looks like he’s ready to take his head off. Amy nudges Nine to get his attention “Eggman is hardly a threat. Just kick enough robot butt and he’ll retreat.” Amy is incredibly lucky that Nine listened, because the moment there’s robots around, he’s tearing them to pieces. When he sees Tails just hitting the robots with kicks or a wrench, he decides that this just won’t do.
Time to pull a Sonic!
Nine gets to Tails in the air “hey, you know how to spin dash??”
“No, that’s Sonics thing!”
“Steal his thing!”
Nine scruffs Tails “SPIN!” and chucks him into battle. Tails is now ping ponging robots around in a spin dash. Sonic has a look of pride yet a ‘HEY HE STOLE MY THING!’ Look.
The battle is over in record time before Eggman retreats, grumbling about a stupid fox with his stupid spider legs.
Nine decides it’s his time to go. He does let Tails investigate the shuttle juuust a little bit. Not a lot. Ok maybe he just let him look at it. But still.
Maybe Nine will come back one day. Who knows!
This isn’t home. This is other hims home. Where he’s happy and gets to live in peace.
Nine thinks about how close Tails and Sonic were.. his Sonic is probably missing his friends like crazy.
Is it cruel though to still want to stay with him? The only friend he’s ever had?

You guys ever have that issue where you’ve got a bunch of au ideas and you have no idea which one to start talking about?
Well, I decided to let you guys decide which au to start with using a poll!
Some info about each au:
Sonic generations Linked Au: An au of sonic generations where when the time eater shows up and messes up time, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy have to team up with their classic selves to find both the time stones and the chaos emeralds in order to fix everything. The time stones are used to free Sonic’s friends and create portals into locations from the past, but the catch is that using them attracts the time eater. The chaos emeralds can be used to repel and later fight back against the time eater, but they got scattered throughout time and space when the time eater attacked Sonic’s birthday party.
Ace attorney dual destinies rewrite: a rewrite where Phoenix got his attorney’s badge back, but is reluctant to use it due to a fear of messing things up again. The fact that the legal system has deteriorated to a point where one case caused everyone to start rioting doesn’t help. Clay and pearl show up earlier in the story, Klavier has a bigger role in the Themis case, and overall there’s a little more emotional weight in some scenes.
Ace attorney spirit of justice rewrite: Ok, this one is where things are WAY more different. After Phoenix tells Apollo and Trucy the truth about their heritage, both of them are furious and want to confront Lamiroir for trying to keep that a secret for much longer. There’s just one problem: Lamoroir is taking a break from performing and went to the place where she met the man that she truly loved: Khura’in. With this in mind, and knowing that he can’t really stop them, Phoenix sends Apollo and Trucy to where Maya is staying in Khura’in so that they can find Lamiroir, and they get caught up in what’s going on with the legal system over there. In the meantime, Dhurke comes to the states to look for Apollo and the Orb, and ended up finding Phoenix, who is not very happy to see him. While Trucy and Apollo are investigating in Khura’in, Dhurke and Phoenix investigate in Kurain village, with the help of Pearl.
Sonic forces rewrite: (I know there are so many sonic forces rewrites out there already, but I might as well throw my hat into the ring) A rewrite where classic sonic isn’t there, and the phantom ruby incident happened when sonic and the others were younger. When Eggman digs through his old files and finds some notes on the phantom ruby, he decides to give it another shot, this time with a live host. When Infinite attacks and knocks out sonic, Tails tries to carry him out of there, but gets knocked out in the process. Flash forward a few months, Eggman is in the process of taking over the world, and the resistance is fighting back with three leaders: Knuckles, Amy, and Tails. When Infinite attacks the custom character (Rookie), Tails is the one who saves him and leads him to the resistance. Also, Tails has a little wisp friend with him. When they hear a rumor that Sonic is alive in one of Eggman’s prisons, Tails and the Rookie have to work together in order to find him while also freeing places and people from Eggman’s control. In the meantime, from Sonic’s perspective, he has to find a way to break out of the prison and find out how to stop the phantom ruby in its new form, but infinite’s illusions and a speed limiter they put on him will make things even more difficult.
Balan Wonderworld Rewrite: Less of a rewrite and more of a complete rehaul of the story, but without changing the characters. Their motivations on the other hand… (I know a lot of people hate the game, I’m not the biggest fan of it either, but I liked the idea of it). The main gist of the story is that the protagonist has to go on a journey to patch up their “heart” as Balan calls it, and in order to get there, they have to assist Balan in helping other people first (I know that’s a vague explanation, but I feel like it would be easier to show in comic form than like this…)

Unpopular Opinion. Tails is more Independent than Nine is.
I like Nine but he’s definitely not ready to be on his own.
Tumblr media
Nine did survive on his own but 1. Surviving isn’t Living and 2. He didn’t have a choice because nobody cared about him while he was being bullied.
Ever since he decided that he liked Sonic, Nine became WAY more dependent on Sonic than Tails had ever been.
Tumblr media
When Nine first found The Grim’s portal, he wasn’t impressed and even appeared bored. However Nine noticed that his ship needed repairs so he reluctantly entered.
(Debunking the “Nine is obsessed with the shards and is greedy” claim. After all, if he really wanted all of the shards the whole time, he would have quickly entered instead of only doing so because he needed repairs.)
After he noticed how empty The Grim is, he whipped out his device that can track Shards and Sonic due to him having shard energy. The latter of which, is the reason why Nine made the device.
There’s a timeskip after Nine found The Grim’s shard. I suspect that he didn’t use the shard for anything other than repairs until after he brought Sonic in The Grim since why not show the Trees to Sonic when he had the chance.?
After doing the repairs, Nine went back to his initial mission to find Sonic. (If he ever left it since he seems confused and upset when he first saw the Grim’s shard..)
During Situation Grim, Nine went back to New Yoke and he already knew Sonic was there, likely through use of his tracking device. (Unless he somehow spotted Sonic teleporting back.)
Tumblr media
Nine brought Sonic to the Grim, hoping that he’d like the place just as much as he does. To his frustration, Sonic didn’t and wanted to return to the Rebels. Nine reluctantly helped Sonic leave.
However Nine didn’t want to give up yet, as Sonic only named the Council as the reason why he didn’t want to stay and Nine now depends on Sonic. So Nine decided to decorate The Grim based on what Sonic might like, hoping Sonic would be more satisfied with The Grim.
Tumblr media
Nine was with the Council and tried to defeat them from the inside for weeks so that Sonic’s reason for leaving the Grim would no longer apply. Nine also updated Sonic’s gear so that he won’t teleport when he grabs the shards. Not only because it’ll help Sonic but possibly also so that Sonic won’t leave The Grim if/when he touches its shard.
(To anyone who tries pretending that Nine staying with the Council wasn’t for Sonic, what ulterior motive could Nine have had? Collecting the shards? Nine easily could have done that himself using his tracking device + ship and it would have been quicker that way.)
Nine became frustrated with Sonic’s refusal to stay in The Grim with him. In his mind, He spent weeks/months with the council for nothing and he was starting to suspect Sonic was a fake friend. Plus, he can’t handle being away from Sonic and he’ll likely die if Green Hill is restored.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So far in Season 3, after cutting ties with Sonic, Nine had lost his touch. The Shards powers are beyond Nine’s control and so far, Nine’s only toys shown were the Grim copies, which appear to be weak. (Plus it can be interpreted that Nine’s endangering the shatterverse is partly so that Sonic would only be able to speak to him.)
Even in Speed Simulator, Nine is one of the only characters who doesn’t have his own small circle. Instead, he shares his with Sonic because he can’t handle being without him.
Tails on the other hand, can go longer without Sonic. They only hang out like once or twice a month. (As implied by the “Long Time, no see” lines and in Tailstube, Sonic wrote a message about his presence, implying that they hadn’t seen each other in a while. )
Edit: People claim that Nine’s more independent than Tails is due to him not knowing Sonic until recently, but it’s actually BECAUSE of that, that he’s more dependent on Sonic than Tails is. Nine met Sonic only recently and Sonic was the only one who cared about him so Nine doesn’t want to lose Him or share him with anyone yet.

Fascinating little tidbit from the BumbleKast pertaining to Frontiers. We still know barely anything about the story, and Ian still has to keep quiet due to NDAs, but he did say this. When asked if the shifting public opinions on games like Shadow and ‘06 which I don’t actually think have shifted I think the people who played those as their first Sonic games are just nostalgic adults now but that’s another discussion lmao meant that Sega might be “more lenient in exploring ideas touched upon in those games - dark/tragic themes, dystopian settings, etc.”, Ian unexpectedly says...
Ian: “At the risk of crossing a line... I’m gonna say, play Sonic Frontiers and then come back to me on that one.”
(Kyle: “Uh oh. Ow the edge.”)
Ian: “Not like... that edge. And I know we keep bringing it up, but, look at what we got away with in Metal Virus for pity’s sake.
(He doesn’t elaborate further than this.)
Very interesting, though! Seems like Frontiers may have a somewhat more serious story after all. This isn’t the most surprising given the somber, contemplative tone of the open world stuff we’ve seen so far, backed by the melancholy piano music. And Sonic Team apparently wants the tone of the game to be “mysterious” according to IGN’s preview. But all we know about the story so far is “Sonic, Tails, and Amy jump through a portal, Sonic ends up alone on the Starfall Islands, and an unknown AI voice tells him to gather the Chaos Emeralds.” That’s not a lot! I was starting to get worried that Sega was barely giving Ian any room for story in his first big gig in the games, even with this seeming to be a gargantuan open world game, so this is reassuring to me. I’d love it if Ian was able to thread the needle between Sonic’s ‘00s seriousness and ‘10s levity, something with a bit more substance without getting stuck too far up its own ass, which I’d say he’s been doing well for years in the comics. Fingers crossed
Between this and the positive preview from IGN that went into way more detail on the structure and mechanics and Sonic Team’s goals with the game (they made a Sonic game with parrying and didn’t even tell us!!!!), I’m feeling more cautiously optimistic about Frontiers. It could still easily end up being a bloated game padded out by a barren, repetitive open world, and the drip feed of information isn’t doing the game any favors, but there are some interesting things for me to latch onto now that weren’t made clear from seven minutes of Sonic running around a field. It could be a mess, but at least now it sounds more interesting, and it’s the interesting messes that tend to be the most lovable for 3D Sonic

Tell me anything about any AU. Empty the brain human.
In my Underground Au.
-Sonic is a half-prince (his ma and pa were not royalty) which is why after he meets Aleena again, he doesn’t stick around, because he is not required and he just feels very anxious in the castle.
-Nia is the oldest, meaning that after Aleena (HOPEFULLY) passes away she is going to be the next queen.
-Tails never knew Aleena by face ( as seen in the comic bc he did not know the queen of the Christmas Islands was Sonic’s mother)but with the glimpses of Sonic’s nightmares about an older figure getting mad at him…he suspects of her from the beginning, he never liked her.You will see that in the comic.
TW:Abuse, Body Shaming, Aleena.
-Manic and Sonia are the first ones to see Aleena again after so many years, after they meet up with her, she invents this crap of Sonic being taken away from her and asks them to try and go find their little sibling.
Why? Because the people of the islands would be VERY suspicious about the pure blooded children suddenly reappearing and the half-prince still missing, these people were very fond of Akeno and Jules, they wanted justice for their kid.
So. Manic and Nia do. They go looking for him and seek help of a detective agency. YES the Chaotix who OH SURPRISE they know what blue hedgehog they refer to!
They find him.
Sonic is…wary of them. From what he recalls of them, Aleena always talked about them as if they were dead. But Sonic doesn’t trust his memories from those years (dissociative amnesia) so he goes along with them to the Islands.
Anddddd we’ll get there in the comic.
-Aleena actually takes a whole damn time with humiliating her kids physically. It may not be ‘he r intention’ like she says (bullshit) but she does it a lot.
With Sonic, is his cheeks, she often tells him that they’re chubby and that he should stop eating like a squirrel and other stupid things. That gets him pretty badly because Shadow and Knuckles (he’s dating them in this au) often tell him that they’re adorable so he gets insecure thinking that they only lied about it.
With Manic, is about his whole color of quills, Aleena tells them to dye their hair because it looks ‘gross’ and that is always messy. She asks him A HELLA LOT to wear beanies or hats to cover it. Manic ignores her all the time, because he loves his hair, but he hates when she says it in front of other people, obviously.
With Nia, is not much because she looks a lot like Aleena so her appearance doesn’t annoy her BUT she does tell her what clothes look good on her and which ones doesn’t but like very rudely, she changes her outfits without her consent and forces her to wear stuff that often made her uncomfortable.
-Manic becomes very protective of Sonic and Tails after he gets an idea of what Aleena did to his little brother and what his tiny little brother went through. Nia is in denial about Aleena being a bad mother but she goes through her own process and at the end, stands out for her siblings.

What happens when Sonic falls back to Earth? How does everyone react to it? Did Sonic age 10 years or is he now 10 years younger than everyone?
(That would be weird for Tails! Your big brother comes home after 10 years and he's now the younger brother, and a lot shorter lol)
Sonic is 10 years younger than everyone else now! He’s almost a foot shorter than Tails and Cream and is obviously a little out of place. His care free attitude is a welcome change of pace for some and seen as a little ignorant by others.
Reactions were mixed!
Tails was so thrilled to have his brother back but as an adult and the co-leader of the organisation he feels like he doesn’t have enough time to truly let it sink in that he’s back. I think he feels guilty for being a little resentful of Sonic for leaving him alone all those years; he knows he didn’t mean to but still, his actions endangered people whether he meant for them to or not. I think Sonic feels a little uneasy about the fact that Tails is a different person now, his morals and spirit haven’t changed but ten years is a lot of time to miss. He still loves his brother of course but having their dynamic flipped on it’s head is a lot to take in.
Amy doesn’t blame him at all for what happened, she knows he was doing his best to save the world and that he had no way of knowing what would happen. She’s a lot calmer now, she still admires him as a hero but also sort of sees him as a kid? She spends a lot of time getting him to open up about how he’s feeling about the strange new world he finds himself in and is the one that really helps him find his place in the group. She is the other co-leader so he spends a lot of time with her at first getting to know what’s what.
Knuckles won’t even speak to him, he talks about him as if he is a reckless child that endangered them all. He doesn’t care about Sonic’s intentions, only that he lost the chaos emeralds in outer space and has destroyed their way of living. He’s calmed down a lot in the past decade but hearing about Sonic’s return reignited old flames. He spends his time on Angel Island alone, guarding the Master Emerald as it’s the only thing keeping balance.
Shadow resents him and shares a lot of the same sentiments as Knuckles, but keeps them as close to his chest as he’s able to as to not disturb peace in the group. Shadow refrained from attacking him on sight only at Tails’ request. He speaks to him minimally, usually avoiding him by getting on with his jobs and declining his help despite knowing it would make things easier. Ultimately, he resents having to take on Sonic’s role as the protector of a large group of people, he doesn’t want to be the hero in charge of saving the world and is very tired. He also resents Sonic because he watched Tails mourn him and helped him through it.
Rogue keeps her feelings close, she’s glad to have the extra hands around - especially someone that isn’t so drained or nihilistic. She wasn’t close to Sonic before he went missing but was saddened mostly by Tails and Amy’s responses to it. She’s seen the strain that having to do his job has taken on Shadow and is the one that forces Shadow to pass on some of his responsibilities to Sonic. She somewhat selfishly sees Sonic as a means of helping Shadow heal.
Cream is as sweet as ever, a polite young woman who treats him respectfully. Her opinion was definitely influenced by Amy and she’s thankful that he’s home safe. It’s very strange for them that they’re the same age now but they get along well. Spending time with Cream is when Sonic feels things are the most ‘normal’.
Sonic doesn’t really know what to feel, he feels guilty for being the cause of everything but also knows he didn’t have much of a choice. He immediately wants to help but struggles to find a place in the group when it moved on without him. He’s glad they all stayed together but can’t help but feel a little replaced, especially by the fact that Tails and Shadow are so close. Sonic feels a little like he’s intruding, but is trying his hardest to do whatever he can to fix things. Ultimately, he’s just relieved that his friends are alive and safe even if some of them might not be his friends anymore.

@hishighnesstheprincess submitted: Haha get dunked on Niya
Oh my god, okay so the first time you submitted this to me, it actually made me cry when reading this ngl. But due to Tumblr not allowing me to post it and eating it up, I couldn’t even post it so no one was able to see it -_-
But now this revamped one? I really love it. I teared up a bit this time but that quickly went away once I realized what you were planning when I got near the ending and thought “oh holy crap, is she doing what I think she’s- OH YES, I LOVE THIS.”
So I literally made a new post to make sure people saw it cause….it’s great.
It’s based off of this ask I got a few weeks ago but better read the whole thing first so it doesn’t spoil the surprise ;). LINK
========
When he first met Sonic, Tails was maybe guilty of idolizing him too much. When he got to know him better, he saw Sonic for what he really was- a kid who was a bit of a klutz and a goofball, but he was still the great hero that Tails first thought he was. He always tried his best, and he always pulled through in the end.
Not this time, though. There was no way he was going to be able to turn this one around.
And it was all. Tails’. Fault.
Nothing could even make a scratch on the glass pod encasing his brother. Sonic had thrown himself against the glass at least ten times, Amy had hit it with her hammer, Tails had even tried shooting it as a last resort- but nothing was working. Now he was desperately fiddling with the machinery around the tube, hoping against hope that he would find something to save his big brother- but there was nothing. Nothing he could do without risking the pod being sent out into space even before the timer ran out. Maybe if Knuckles were here they would have a chance of breaking it, but just by themselves they weren’t enough- Tails wasn’t enough.
Eggman was gloating, and Amy was yelling at him, threatening to kill him if he didn’t release Sonic, but there was nothing they could do, Eggman was the only one who knew how to release him. And Tails couldn’t figure it out in time.
“Any chance that me spindashing against this thing would help?” Sonic asked, sounding significantly more stressed out than usual, but still- but still light hearted. Like this wasn’t happening. “You know, I think I felt it shake last time.”
Tails shook his head, trying to make sure that his claws didn’t shred through any wires accidentally. The last thing they needed was Tails messing up, again. “D-don’t joke at a time like this. I’ve got to focus to get you out of there, or else- or else-”
“Yeah, I know,” Sonic said, his smile strained. “It’s just… I can’t see the timer from here. How much time do we have left?”
Tails looked up, glancing at the clock, and-
2 minutes left.
His legs collapsed out from under him. “Oh, no no no no no…”
“That bad, huh?” Sonic joked weakly. When Tails didn’t respond, his expression turned into a grimace. “Hey, Tails-“
Tails started ripping at the wires he could see, shredding them into pieces. “Sonic, please, I’ve got to focus, or else you’ll-”
“Tails-“
“I need to think, can you please be quiet-“
“Tails-”
“There’s got to be some way out of this, I’ve just got to figure it out-”
“Tails, please.”
Sonic was smiling at him through the glass, and he didn't seem scared anymore. Just a little bit sad. "I don't think there's a way out of this one, bud."
Tails sobbed.
“It’s just…..I’ve got some things I want to say. Before…..you know.”
"No," Tails croaked out. "Sonic, you can't give up- you can't- what am I going to do without you?!" His voice rose to a shrill shriek at the end of his sentence.
"You're gonna be alright, that's what you're gonna do," Sonic said, and his smile was as comforting as it had ever been. "You're the coolest person I know, Tails. If anyone can make it through this, you can."
"No, no, no, I can't." Tails was crying now, and he tried to wipe the tears from his face. "I'm the one who told Eggman the emerald was fake, I'm the reason you're stuck, I'm the reason you're going to die-"
"Tails, listen to me," Sonic said, his voice firm, and he waited until Tails' sobs had quieted before speaking again. "None of this is your fault. You hear me? None of this is your fault. It's not on you. I should have been paying more attention."
Tails shook his head, but he was too weak to argue, and his eyes were locked on the clock. 30 seconds left.
"Just… tell everybody else that I love them, okay? All the rest of our family. Tell Knuckles he was the coolest big brother I could ever ask for, and tell Tom and Maddie that they were the best parents in the entire universe. And give Eggman hell from me after I'm gone, alright?"
Tails was crying so hard now that he could barely see Sonic, but he nodded. Sonic smiled again, and Tails noticed that there were tears in his eyes now, but he wasn't crying. "Heh. Only Miles Tails Wachowski could be the best little brother ever."
Tails pressed his hand up against the glass, trying in vain to scratch through it, and after a second, Sonic pressed his palm up against the glass from the other side.
"And that's enough of that," Eggman said. "Said your goodbyes, rodent? You better have!"
"No!" Tails yelled, beginning to scrabble at the glass desperately, looking around wildly. "Eggman please, please don't do this- please let him go, I'll do anything!"
"As if I'd let him go now," Eggman said, a cruel smile on his face. "Goodbye, pest."
Tails screamed as the tube was yanked out of the room, sucked into a hole in the ground and into outer space, and he ran to the window, watching it get smaller as it got further and further away-
The explosion lit space up, even from that distance, and Tails sank to the ground, knowing his brother never could have survived that. In the distance, he could hear Amy screaming in between her wails, and he could hear Eggman laughing.
"Oh, such a wonderful day!" Eggman yelled, euphoric. "To have my greatest foe die at my hand- and all because his little brother sold him out."
Tails' hands curled into fists, and he felt his claws dig into his palms. "No. This wasn't my fault."
"Oh, but it is! You're the one who failed spectacularly, Miles Prower. He's dead because of you. I couldn't have done it better myself."
Tails shook his head. "N-no. This wasn't my fault! This is all on you."
Something was happening to him, something he should feel scared by, but all he felt was cold rage, and a hole in his heart where Sonic had been. Lightning crackled around him, twisting through his fur and his claws and the air, yellow and vicious. He turned to face Eggman, and something inside him felt satisfied when he saw the beginnings of fear on his face.
"You're the one who killed my brother, and you're the one who's going to die for that mistake."

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog - The Case of The Missing Hi-Tops (Screenshots & Review)
Tumblr media
Watching this episode ended up being a bit tricky, because the power went out when I got home from work today. But, thanks to my Aosth DVD collection and my laptop, I was still able to! Thank goodness for physical media.
The episode starts with Sonic and Tails being chased by this shows weird version of buzz-bombers. Looking at them again, they stand out as odd compared to a lot of the other shows badniks - most of Robotnik’s minions have a very cute design to them, but these things look more sinister and akin to something you might see in SatAm instead.
Tumblr media
Since most badniks in the show have a very cute design, the buzz bombers actually look kind of aggressive by comparison. Through some burrowing and fancy tricks, Sonic is able to take them down. He then notices in a newspaper that there is going to be a Sonic Appreciation event in town! Unfortunately for him and Tails, it's actually a cover for someone's unscrupulous plan....but our heroes won't know that for a while.
Sonic and Tails head to the event and look around in wonder, it's cute seeing them so amazed and happy at people appreciating ...well, Sonic, at-least (they should give some love for Tails too! He's a little sweetheart!) The first person the encounter is a bird fellow named Harry The Huckster, sporting a funny stereotypical "old man" voice.  He's very clearly clearly a Scam artist along the lines of Wes Weasely, but with less charm. Dude even pulls on Sonic’s nose, what a jerk! At-least Weasely doesn't beat up his suckers, er, "customers".
Tumblr media
There’s a lot going on here! Angry eye brow underwear, some random bikini lady, “pickled Sonic jelly”, and then some actual Sonic merch I probably would have loved to get as a kid. Also, it does me a giggle that the scam artist character is selling bibles. Someone on the art team must have been an atheist... Anyway, Harry persists for quite a while trying to sell stuff to Sonic, claiming to think Sonic is just a kid in a mask. Eventually he finally realises he's talking to the real Sonic, and gives Sonic a free bookmark before departing. Next to arrive - is Scratch and Grounder?! They're not here to appreciate Sonic, but to attack him. After busting up their mech, Sonic then sees a woman jumping off the roof a building!
Tumblr media
Thankfully, he is able to catch her, but quickly finds out that she is one creepy and messed up lady who makes even the worst of Amy Roses writing seem believable by comparison. She smooches on Sonic without his consent and just openly brags about stalking him. She even changed her name to “Sonette” sound more like his. Creeeepy! When Sonic finally tells her off, she vows revenge and runs away. Yeesh, what an asshole!
Tumblr media
Sonic and Tails now finally get the chance to go and check into a hotel in town, but while in the lobby they get interrupted by yet another person. His name is Hodgepodge, and he is a large and rather brutish rabbit who used to be friendly rival with Sonic, as they both enjoyed racing each-other. Sonic and Hodgepodge have a friendly race together, after which Sonic passes by Coconuts in disguise.
Tumblr media
This reminds me of one of the scenes from Sonic CD’s ending.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Sonic and Tails head to bed, we get a meanwhile scene where Robotnik is playing poker with one of his robots and shoots it in the chest when it beats him. Scratch and Grounder arrive home, telling Robotnik about the event Sonic is at, so he orders them to go and steamroll the town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A pigeon-toed chicken?
Back at the hotel room, Sonic and Tails are sleeping peacefully when a strange hose comes in from under their door and gases the room. It seems to be some sort of knockout gas, as when Sonic comes to in the morning, he finds his sneakers are gone! Tails is excited to solve the mystery of who stole them, and Sonic is reluctant, saying he prefers action to thinking (which is odd as he's quite clever in this show), but eventually agrees to take it easy and help Tails search.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic quickly learns that running without his special sneakers results in burnt tootsie footsies....
Tumblr media
Tails is excited to solve the mystery! He seems to also share this “detective” trait in that “murder of Sonic the hedgehog” game. The name of that makes me uncomfortable because it reminds me of all the awful edgelords I’ve encountered in the My Little Pony fandom, but I know the game is actually quite cute and innocent from all I’ve seen and heard.
Tumblr media
The first "clue" they find is Coconuts, asleep in their closet. They interrogate him and ind out out that Coconuts was already in the hotel, hoping to ambush them in their sleep, but when he saw the sleeping gas hose appear, he decided to lay low and ended up dozing off (which means he must also be more of a cyborg like Scratch and Grounder, it seems).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like Coconut’s Robotnik watch. Pretty cool!  😄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figuring that Coconuts is innocent of the shoe theft, Tails then decides it must have been Hodgepodge who stole them. He's so sure of himself that he goes outside and attacks the big bunny! It's cute seeing Tails go all gangster on someone for messing with Sonic, but it turns out that Hodgepodge wasn't the culprit either. He may have been jealous of Sonic’s speed in the past, but is over it now and his feet would be too big for Sonic shoes anyway.
Tumblr media
Mobius’s toughest four year old!
Tumblr media
Sonic starts to feel discouraged and sits on the side of a fountain with Tails when he sees the creeper lady from before, Sonette. He goes to confront her, and she confesses to stealing from him, as well as breaking into their hotel room (I think it's time for a restraining order). But, it turns out that while she did steal some things, they weren't Sonic’s shoes but rather a chili dog wrapper and a bookmark.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scratch and Grounder arrive with a steamroller, but Sonic makes quick work of them. After he puts them in an envelope and seemingly mails them back to Robotnik, he goes to confront Harry as he has put all the clues together and found out that Harry was indeed the culrpit. He explains to tails how he figured everything out, and it's neat to hear it all as even my own grown-up self didn't catch all the subtle clues throughout the episode. Harry confesses to the crime, and Sonic calls for a cop to arrest him  -personally, I think he should have told the cop about his creepy stalker Sonette, too...
Tumblr media
For some reason Tails’ pose and expression here makes me think of Wooly from Amanda The Adventurer... In the episodes final scene,Sonic sends a very impressive "talking Sonic t-shirt" as a gift to Robotnik. The image of Sonic on it even moves! I kept expecting it to actually be Sonic on the shirt somehow, but I guess Mobius just has really hi-tech t shirt fabric!
In the Sonic says segment, Sonette, once again being a huge creeper, sneaks into a room where she thinks Sonic is showering and tries to steal his shoes. A little "angel" and "devil" appear on each shoulder ( a trope I really do not care for), and pressure her according to their established stereotypes. She eventually chooses not to steal the shoes, and apologizes to Sonic. It's a good lesson to teach kids to steal peoples shoes, but I think the episode could have done more to also address that pretty much everything Sonette does to Sonic in this episode is horrifying and not okay! I guess that's what the well-known "That's no good!" Sonic says is for...
This episode was really fun! For a show that is usually very silly and simple, it's cool to see a rather cleverly written mystery with lots of clues for attentive viewers. Tails eagerness to solve the mystery is adorable, as is a lot of the art in this episode. My only real complaint is that I would like for Sonette's behavior to have been addressed as being as creepy as it was by, well, anyone. She gets off way too easy for all of stalking and physically assaulting of Sonic.
Til next time Sonic enjoyers, stay cool, and don't be a creeper like Sonette! Also, get a flashlight so you can see when the power goes without having tow ear down your phone battery....*rummages around her house* I swear we had a flashlight SOMEWHERE....

Sonine Prime ... Part 5
Hi, everyone and welcome back to Sonine Prime! The part of the show when I come out and talk about Sonine (and a bit of Sontails) in Sonic Prime!
Last time we just barely started Episode 4, so we'll be starting right back up where we left off and seeing how much of the season we can get through before Part 6.
<< Part 4 | Part 6 >>
(Essay/thoughts/analysis under the cut)
I lied!
A bit.
We'll pick up right where we left up in Episode 4 still, I promise. I just still wasn't over the ending of episode 3. So, I've decided to use my allotted video per tumblr post this time around to shove it in your faces because I need people to witness this ending. That I am still not over.
Do you get it do you get it do you get it?
Okay, back to the show.
It's a tiny thing that makes me laugh more than it's relevant, but the scene where Sonic meets Mangey is funny specifically because Sonic is so desperate to find Tails/a version of Tails to help him in each shatterspace up to this point. In a way, it proves to us just how lost Sonic feels without Tails specifically, and just how much the idea of losing him freaks him out.
Sonic is so incredibly freaked out when he catches Mangey (similar to how he was when he thought Mr. Dr. Eggman was going to kill Rebel, Renegade, and Rusty Rose).
Tumblr media
"Tails...? TAILS!"
And yet, there's something a bit different about these scenes.
Let's put something into perspective for a moment.
Imagine being Sonic the Hedgehog. Raw talent, natural speed, badnik busting practice. You're aware that no matter what, everything always turns out fine, so you can afford to be cocky. And when things get too confusing for you and "winging it" won't cut it, you've always got your trusty fox best friend. Perhaps even you're a bit scared (whether you admit it or not), you feel lost, like nothing makes sense. But that's okay, because Tails is here. Tails is smart. You can trust him to comprehend what you cannot, to try to explain it to you. Whether you understand or not, at least Tails knows what's going on. And that's enough, because that means he can come up with a plan, and if he can come up with a plan, you just have to execute it. Simple. Easy. And even if he can't understand, can't come up with a plan, at least you have each other, right?
But Sonic woke up in New Yolk alone, has been struggling thus far to understand what's going on around him (one hedgehog with a spotty memory and not even 5% of the context the audience has). So he went to look for Tails first. Because everything is messed up and wrong and Eggman took over, and Sonic doesn’t know how. He doesn't know what happened. But if he can just find Tails, everything will be all okay. Tails can explain it, work out a plan, and Sonic can execute it. They can fix everything together.
But then "Tails" doesn't remember him, neither do his "other friends". He's lost and trying to understand what's happening because no one else can explain it to him.
Or in short, Sonic in Sonic Prime is just trying to seek out the familiar in the unfamiliar, find the one thing (or person, rather) that will make everything make sense, but he can't. Tails isn't around. He's not here (not in New Yolk, Boscage Maze, or No Place). But each time he seeks him out.
And after being ripped away from Nine, and remembering how he'd lost his all his friends before that, it just... Before he knows who Mangey is, when he sees Mangey falling, he moves without thinking, desperate to have Tails back. Desperate to make sure he (and his friends) never die.
Tumblr media
"Am I glad to see you. The world is all blgdyblublu. You gotta figure out what's going–"
Even by this point, when he's realized that there are multiple alternate versions of Green Hill, he still tries to seek out Tails/a version of him, hoping someone can make sense of things for him.
But that's the thing. He never finds Tails. Nine and some of the other residents of the shatterverse are helpful, but Sonic has to spend much of the episodes working things out on his own while just wishing things made sense (or he could find Tails, so Tails could make things make sense)
You feel?
Did anyone ask for more Sonic & versions of Tails and Sonic & versions of Amy parallels? Cool.
So I don't remember if I said this in a previous part, but here's my personal interpretation of Sonic Prime. In Season 1, Tails/Nine/Other Tails variants are paralleled to Amy/Amy variants in regards to Sonic, while in Season 2, Nine is paralleled to Shadow. Whatever your belief is on the relationships Sonic has to certain characters or how they feel about him (and vice versa) canonically, especially in Sonic prime, it remains that S0namy and Sonadow are two of the most popular Sonic the Hedgehog ships. And this is why these Amy/Tails parallels I've been mentioning since the first part matter to me (in terms of what they mean for each of the characters, AND what they mean for Sonic, as well as what the similarities and differences mean).
So. Let's take a look at Sonic's first meeting with Thorn vs his first meeting with Nine.
Now, the very first difference. How the first meeting went about.
It's important to note that Sonic was purposely looking for Tails back in New Yolk. So when he saw Nine, thinking he was Tails, he followed him to his lab, excited to have found "Tails" and glad one thing (the code to "Tails'" lab) was the same as before. He'd turned Nine's "chair" as he'd done to Tails in the flashback, expecting, well, anything other than for who he thought to be Tails to be attacking him. The idea that "Tails" would attack him instantly throws him off, leaving him confused and sad. But for Thorn? Sonic went into this fight expecting to fight a "monster". For the first minute of the direct fight, he doesn't see more of Thorn aside from possibly her hammer. You can tell how afraid he his by how the camera switches from the hammer to Sonic's face, and shows him desperately trying to crawl away and break free of the thorns keeping him from running. So in opposition to Sonic seeing glimpses of Nine before he meets him proper (and then starts a fight with him), approaching this initially with peace in mind, Sonic doesn’t see Thorn at all until after being hit around a couple times, until after going into all this initially expecting a fight with a "monster".
"Yes! There's my two-tailed genius friend. Surprise~!"
vs
"Amy? You're the monster? Oh. Oh, those guys up above have really got it– Ughk. —wrong."
And then, after each of these, Nine and Thorn attack Sonic.
"Tails? It's me. Your best–"
"Tails, stop! We're buds—amigos! Best friends!"
vs
"Amy, stop! We're friends! You liked me!...to some extent."
Nine and Thorn continue to attack Sonic. Nine and Sonic have a continuous attack on the underground train in the scareport (where Sonic continues to reason with him, tries to remind him of all they've been through together). Thorn sends Sonic up past the trees with her hammer, intending to end the battle altogether.
Now, a couple things to note here. Except when defending himself, Sonic never intends to actually fight Nine back in episode one. In fact, he spends much of the fight dodging and trying to reason with him. And it's clear that Sonic also never expected "Tails" to fight him. The fact that Nine does fight him, treat him like a stranger, throws Sonic off. But with Thorn? Sure, he never intended to fight her in the first place, at least not knowingly. But now that he does know who the "monster" is, he speeds down the nearest tree with clear intent to hit Thorn back. It's only because he flashes back to Amy and this suddenly makes him feel like he'd be fighting a friend does he decide against dealing that heavy blow. And while it throws him off for "Amy" to be so antagonistic, it's clear to me from the "You liked me!...to some extent", and that his first reaction was to hit Thorn back (rather than try to reason with her like with Nine), that the idea of Amy attacking him in general doesn't throw Sonic off. I'd wager that Prime Sonic has likely been at the mercy of Amy's hammer before, in the same way he'd likely never been attacked by Tails.
Now, after deciding he can't just "smash" (as Sonic puts it) Thorn with a clear conscience, he begins to try to reason with her as he had with Nine.
"Quick recap. I'm not from around here. Violence never solves anything. And where I'm from, you and I are buds. So how about we put down your big hammer and just talk, Amy?"
"My name is Thorn Rose, and you are finished!"
vs
"What did you just call me"
"U-Uh...Tails?"
"The name's...NINE!"
...
"Snap out of it, we go way back! All of my best memories of Green Hill have you in 'em, and you're not punching me! Don't you wanna go home? Blue skies, sunny beaches...palm trees?"
"I don't know what kind of mind games you're playing, but it won't work!"
And here's what's interesting about Sonic's demeanor. While he's hurt, confused, and panicked during the fight with Nine (and this shows when he tries to reason with him), he's much calmer when reasoning with Thorn. You know, it's as if to him "Amy" just got angry/lost herself and it's up to him to de-escalate the situation.
With Nine, it's reminding him what Sonic means to him (means to Tails really), of home, of their adventures. With Thorn, it's reminding her of what Sonic means to her (means to Amy really), and, when that fails, trying to calm her down (as Amy herself might) to get her to just talk instead.
Now here's another interesting tidbit for these two fights. When Sonic and Nine enter the scareport, the two of them are on equal footing for the fight. Neither of them really gains the upper hand as Nine fights and Sonic dodges. However, the fight between Sonic and Thorn mostly consists of Thorn hitting Sonic around. Even when Sonic switches from fight mode to dodge and reason with mode, it's a pretty onesided fight, and it's one that Thorn pretty objectively wins. They're not at all on equal footing here.
Luckily for Sonic, though, he's able to successfully appeal to both Nine and Thorn in the end. He saves Nine from being hit by one of the underground trains, and he saves a flicky from drowning in mud. Nine's first impression of Sonic was of a stranger, a bully, intending to harm him and take from him. Thorn's first impression of Sonic is of a greedy scavenger, one of those who would intend to hurt the forest and drain it of its resources.
The tie in? It's that between both moments (saving Nine and saving the flicky), Sonic convinces Nine and Thorn that he's...an outlier of a person.
After Sonic saves Nine, surprising him, Nine finds who he believes to be the only person who would save someone (him) when there doesn't seem to be any immediately identifiable gain for doing so, the only person who may have protected and helped him back when he was young.
While Thorn isn't fully convinced that Sonic isn't one of the scavengers, those who destroyed the forest originally, it's clear that Sonic’s action of going out of his way to help the flickies surprises her. After all, she finally begrudgingly agrees to help Sonic find his way home.
Although, it is also worth noting that while Nine begins to treat Sonic more like a friend than he's ever treated anyone like a friend (when he fixes Sonic's little problem and goes out with him to get the paradox prism), Sonic is treated more like Thorn's captive in episode 4 (one that she'll release out of the forest when his business is finished).
Finally (I apologize for the length of this section of parallels) we get to the bit where Sonic and Thorn find the green shard. So, final things to note. Yes, Sonic spent more time with Nine over 3 episodes than the small portion of 1 episode with Thorn, but I feel it's also pertinent to recognize that neither were actually particularly long stretches of time in universe. Regardless though, for the sake of the parallel, I'm only noting here that Nine has become at least a bit attached to Sonic in a way Thorn has not. Sonic and Nine marvel over the prism together. In fact, it was Nine who'd asked Sonic to "grab the shard already" so they could escape the coucil's fortress together. However, after Sonic digs up the green shard in Boscage Maze, Thorn doesn't marvel over the green shard for too long before hitting Sonic in the face with her hammer, claiming the shard as hers.
But I suppose this also comes back to one big difference between Thorn and Nine.
Nine cares pretty much only about self preservation and staying away from the general public back in episode 1. Thorn, on the other hand, cares about the forest. Thorn was quick to push aside Sonic for the shard, similar to how Nine decided for leaving Rebel, Renegade, and Rusty behind so he'd have a higher chance of escaping with the shard. Only their goals matter. It's just that Nine very quicky integrated Sonic into his plans, while Thorn had not.
Interesting, no?
Okay okay I'll say the thing. Parallels between a Tails and Amy variant both meeting Sonic for the first time and pursing a shard with him: IIII
So, Sonic goes for the green shard with a spin dash, yelling that he needs it, Thorn goes "as if I'd give the heart of my jungle to a stranger like you. You're a scavenger like the rest" and moves to attack, and so ends episode 4.
Putting the Sonine interactions from episodes 1-3 in comparison to all this with Thorn...really makes me embarassed on Nine's behalf for how telling his actions are😂
And now for a moment you've (me) all been waiting for (because I didn't find anything in episode 5 I wanted to talk about)...
Sonic Prime Season 1 Episode 6: Situation: Grim!
I've been excited to touch on this episode since I started this little series about Sonine. Why? Because it's one of the season 1 episodes that gives me a lot of second hand embarrassment about Sonine (in a good way!), and it's just so fun to break down.
So, without further ado, let's return to New Yolk.
So, Sonic drops in, gets roped into the ensuing battle with the rebels versus the Eggforcers, and comments that New Yolk City isn't quite how he remembers it. Then, as he goes about explaining that he met "another you" (refering to Renegade), in another place, fighting another battle and the existence of other shards, he asks Renegade where Nine is.
"Anyway. Super stoked to be back to help with...whatever the heck's going on here. Where's Nine? I gotta pick his brain about this other shard I found."
Later, after Renegade brings Sonic to Rebel and the resistance's base, Renegade "informs" Sonic that Nine left them (Renegade, Rebel, and Rusty) "high and dry" after getting the shard. Of course, similar to the scene in which Nine attacked him in their first meeting (while Sonic thought him to be Tails, this revelation seems to make Sonic...sad (a bit of an understatement, I know). Like he just can't believe Nine would do such a thing.
"I didn't steal the shard!"
"But your fox friend did, right before he left us high and dry."
Tumblr media
"He...did?"
Rebel goes on to explain how she and everyone else had trusted them (Sonic and Nine) as a shortened version of the end of episode 3, as well as a continuation of the scene, play out. The audience watches Nine grab the shard, stop and consider saving Rebel, Renegade, and Rusty, before deciding to escape alone with the shard rather than risk losing it over trying to save the three (but it's important to note that Sonic doesn’t see this scene. All he knows is that Nine took the shard and left). Then, Rebel explains that after the event, the resistance grew "without you or that traitorous fox".
Now, how Sonic acts and what he says next tells us a lot about how he sees Nine (or rather how he wants to).
"If they get that energy crystal back, we're done for."
"Nine won't let that happen!"

After having his life threatened by Renegade and some of the resistance (which I may mention that Sonic never gives up anything he knows about Nine to save his own hide, such as the location of his base, even if it is true that he doesn’t know where Nine is currently), Rebel shows Sonic the palm tree. As of the Boscage Maze section, the palm tree has become a symbol to Sonic of what can be, and what he's lost. It's a symbol of the bonds he has with his friends, the memories he made with them, what he hadn't cherished properly before it was gone, and of hope for fhe future. Rebel showing it to him provides adequate motivation to help the rebels, showing him just what's at stake if they fall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I'm sorry I wasn't there when you needed me...but I'm not a traitor and neither is Nine."
Tumblr media
"Let me prove it to you. Let me fight by your side."
Sonic how does– how does you fighting with them also prove Nine isn’t a traitor Mr. "I don't want to believe Nine would leave someone to die"
In any case, the battle between the Rebels, Sonic, and the Chaos Council begin, and Nine shows up just like Sonic always hoped he would.
Tumblr media
"Sonic! Hang on!"
Tumblr media
*In Unision* "Nine?!"
Tumblr media
"You got a plane!...kinda."
In hindsight, we know Nine came to New Yolk to find Sonic and bring him back to The Grim with him. We know this is likely his intention, given how he yells Sonic's name immediately upon appearing in New Yolk, and then says "hang on!" when he sees him in danger.
Bit of a side note here, I actually almost wonder if Nine has the ability to track Sonic (perhaps through his regulators?). I say this because there is no proof, even by season 2, that Nine had gone looking for Sonic in any other shatterspaces and seen them before (in fact there's more proof he went to Boscage Maze and No Place for the very first time while he and Sonic were trying to make off with the shards towards the end of S2). If he was looking for Sonic specifically and just so happened to know not only what shatterspace he was in but also where he was, it makes sense that Nine would be able to portal to about exactly where Sonic was and to come out of the portal yelling his name.
As for Sonic, while Rebel and Renegade are (understandably) none too happy to see him, Sonic is just...so happy, man.
Now, for the next bit where Nine participates in battling the Chaos Council, I think the intentions here are so interesting. Because Nine? He came here just to find Sonic and bring him back. He's battling the Council to free up Sonic and give him an opening to join him. We know this because Nine practically portals out New Yolk the moment Sonic is safe in the cockpit. Basically, Nine only "helped" so he could return to the Grim with Sonic.
But Sonic? He's just got done asserting that Nine would never betray anyone. He wants to believe that Nine cares for people and fighting for good like he does (and like he believes Tails does, but how Sonic sees Tails and how Tails actually is is an essay for another time). So when Nine shows up and starts blasting the council, Sonic believes not that Nine showed up just for him, but that Nine came to help. To Sonic, Nine showing up in their hour of need proves that he's not a traitor, proves that Nine cares about spreading good and peace to New Yolk like Sonic wants to believe.
Understanding their differing points of view and stances on everything is integral to understanding the miscommunications to come in this very episode, and in the future. And, so does understanding how each of them badly want to believe in a version of the other that wants everything that they want and is the way they think they should be.
...And that will be it for part 5 of Sonine Prime, everybody! This was a long one, and it would have been longer if not for the tumblr photo limit, but no matter. Next time we'll be continuing Episode 6, and I'll probably mention a hundred more times how embarrassing Sonic and Nine are about each other (Mr. "I smile as soon as I see you again after time apart and wanted to see you again so bad" and Mr. "We barely knew each other for a day but I want to spend my life alone with you in a world of our own making").
See you in the next one!

Hello, I am IN LOVE with the Tails squad, but there is one thing that doesn't make sense. Don't get me wrong, I love Nine and he deserves the world, but I find it quite odd that he just gets along with a bunch of Tails's, all of them having lives he never got to have and could possible never will (which is like a 10% chance of happening in the show...I hope). I don't hate the Tails squad, I find it cute and adorable, but it kinda doesn't make sense with Nine's character.
He's a firm loner, and while he might get along with others Tails's because they went through the same bullying as he did, but he could also resent them because they were saved by their hero, while he never was. Not to mention, Nine can't have a Sonic. He deserves happiness, but the way the writers are starting his arc makes it seem he might get worse before he gets better, not to mention Nine only shows care for Sonic.
He might develop sure, but the only thing other than himself he has priority over (and even that's starting to fade with how willing he was to get himself captured knowing that these are cruel dictators that roboticised someone and zapped him multiple times, basically ruins any chance to being friends with the rebels multiple times in a way that's kinda self destructive when you look at it closer, and creates a world only for him and Sonic) is Sonic and only him. And that's obviously a very stubborn thing he isn't willing to let go easily.
The whole point of Nine was him being a Tails that's alone, desperate for affection and love. I'm actually starting to lean towards the recent theories that Nine is the remains of Tails's love for Sonic.
Or...
Or us this an alternate universe and I'm just over looking things because I'm currently awake very late and need to let my thoughts out over random things?
If it is, what if the real Nine popped in and saw that even alternate versions of himself are loved and happy but not him? Oh, he'd be ✨ pissed ✨ wouldn't he?
Like damn, even alternate versions of HIMSELF have people while he doesn't holy shit-
In the show, Nine reacts emotionally when he's upset about something, fight or blow up and listen later if he wants, but he'd probably leave without listening in this case.
I'm currently up at 2 am and my Thoughts are SwaRmIng-
He doesn’t resent them. Their lives are not in their control.
He’s jealous, extremely jealous, yes, but he’s been able to build a relationship with the others over time.
Part of Nine is happy that at least he’s happy somewhere else, and the other part wants to know why he doesn’t get to have that life.
Btw you have very detailed 2am thoughts.
Im glad you like this squad of crazy kids

Keep it Simple: A Sonic IDW Review
And here we are.
The Sonic IDW series. A review of the series done by yours truly. I’m gonna start off by saying that there will be slight spoilers for the most recent Issues (notably Issue 50), so if you wanna get into the series yourself, I highly recommend checking it out before reading this blog. Secondly, spoiler alert; I like the IDW series. But why? What’s my reason? What’s my drive? We’re gonna dive straight into that and it’s all under the cut. Let’s waste no further time and get right to it.
The Main Series Characters
Nearly every single character from the main series has seen a massive buff as far as their personality is concerned.
Whenever his ideals and principals are not at the forefront (that is worth an entire blog to talk about which I will get to), Sonic is maximum Sonic. He’s witty, he’s charming and he bounces off of other characters very well. In my eyes, Tails is the character who has seen arguably the largest improvements in the transition from the games to the comics. Friendly, optimistic and incredibly courageous. We’ve seen a return to his Adventure era, which has sorely been missed after Heroes.
Knuckles is a little bit different, but it’s far from bad. He’s still the stubborn, tough and headstrong echidna we know and love, but he also takes things a little bit too seriously (viewing Rough and Tumble’s introduction as a sign that they’re highly coordinated rather than silly). Amy has been given a lot more screen time and she’s very lovable as a result. Her playful attitude with Sonic is great and her desire to help everyone out if possible is equally as good.
My main man Eggman remains largely the same, but with a few extra tweaks which make him amazing. There’s been controversy regarding how in IDW he’s portrayed as a lazy idiot who doesn’t think things through and the contrast with one of Unleashed’s cutscenes (the one where he eats a sandwich), but people also fail to point out how in the same game, he hastily discarded Sonic alongside the Chaos Emeralds. He’s not lazy or stupid, he simply wants Starline (who we’ll get to) off of his case and to shut up.
Aside from that, I absolutely love what they did with the mad doctor. He has a very twisted view of the world, lumping free will with the likes of disease and famine. He is still the same Eggman everyone knows and loves. Thinking on his feet and nearly unbeatable. Metal Sonic saw a return to form as well. Long are the days of just being used as a boss battle. He’s returned to his silent, ruthless and scarily intelligent personality while his belief of ‘Sonic’ being an ideal that he has perfected is more than welcome. Don’t even get me started on Reflections.
Even outside of the main crew, the other colorful characters have seen great buffs to boot. Vector has his role as the leader in the Chaotix justified, Charmy’s a joy with just how optimistic he is, Espio serves as a great contrast to Sonic with his view on justice, Gemerl is more robot-like but his tactical and robotic yet somehow lifelike nature still apply, Rouge is more playful, Omega’s a funny character without treading too far from his roots, Silver’s incredibly optimistic and I am here for it, the Babylon Rouges are more akin to their rebellious and greedy Riders and Zero Riders characters, even Vanilla has great moments in the IDW during the Metal Virus saga and at the end of Badnik Bases And Chao Races.
Cream. Oh my lord, I love what they did with Cream. Despite her age, she is incredibly noble, sensible, empathetic and cares deeply about nearly everyone. Easily a top three character in the series, she absolutely made the Metal Virus saga even better than it is.
Even the Deadly Six get redeemed here. I kid you not. Zavok went from being one of the most joked about characters in the franchise to transforming into a Ridley-esque character. Despite possessing the appearance of a beast, he’s incredibly intelligent and gets really badass lines wherever he goes. While the likes of Zor and Zeena aren’t as buffed as Zavok, they still get great moments to show their stuff rather than just being a generic girl or having no dynamics with any other character. Zazz and Zik have always been one of the better six members, and I’m glad they get more spotlight. Zomom is still better than his game incarnation with cool fight scenes, but he’s pretty much the same. Unfortunate.
The only two characters I don’t feel are too great (at the time of writing) are Blaze and Shadow. Blaze isn’t terribly written as she is just as she’s always been since Rush, but there’s been so little of her it’s hard to comment. I liked how kindhearted and wise she was in Victory Garden, but I find myself struggling to put words together on that one. I’m sorry. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Shadow. What was once a stoic and determined, yet ultimately heroic hedgehog has now been reduced to an arrogant asshole who only cares about proving his dick is bigger than everyone else’s, nevermind how unreasonable he can be.
The IDW Specific Characters
Much like the Archie series, IDW has its own set of unique characters too. A smaller cast, but I’d reckon they are better than the ones seen in Archie (disincluding the Freedom Fighters given how they originated from the SATAM cartoon, not Archie). There’s some discourse about how they aren’t in the games and how they’re ‘OCs’ (FCs would be the proper term), but being a character that is well-written and needing to be canon are not mutually exclusive. (as Archie and Fleetway have proven)
Rough and Tumble are very basic, yet very enjoyable characters whenever they appear on screen. They’re two bad guys who want to wreck stuff and they often falter against the hero, but good God if they aren’t entertaining throughout with their rhymes and their banter. Tangle is in another, similar boat. She’s hyperactive and friendly, but her seemingly boundless optimism and relationship with Whisper really makes the character, even in the darkest of moments.
Speaking of whom, Whisper. I absolutely love the way her story was told. The subtle glare she gives Shadow in Issue 9, the “Not again!” in the 2019 Annual and the “Why?” in Tangle and Whisper 1. And then there’s Issues 24 and 25. I don’t wanna talk too much about it, but she really makes those Issues even better.
Dr. Starline. Unironically my favorite character in the series, and who I believe serves as the main antagonist for the first 50 Issues of IDW (he doesn’t appear until Issue 11 but shhh). A lot of people refer to Starline as a ‘creator’s pet’ or look down on him as another Snively, but I’m not seeing it. Starline’s just as theatrical as Eggy, but he’s also sophisticated, arrogant, highly manipulative and subtle. He’s used very often, but he’s entertaining from start to finish. He’s always working towards his end goal, but he’s always doing something different and he’s always one of the most expressive characters in the series.
As for Jewel The Beetle, I… think she’s okay. She’s cute and I like how she genuinely loves her job at the Restoration HQ (so much so to the point she had to be dragged away by Tangle in Issue 45), but nothing about her (aside from her design) ever stuck with me. Not even her role in the 2020 Annual. I did feel a similar way about Mimic until I reread Tangle and Whisper. He’s no Doctor Starline, but I love the Chaotic Neutral to Lawful Evil vibes this man gives off.
We haven’t gotten too much of Clutch yet, but Issue 48 has really made me love whatever’s coming next with him. His dynamic with Rough and Tumble is phenomenal and I love how dirty and sleazy this man is. The IDW’s most recent newcomers in the form of Surge and Kit are some of the best the series has seen. A deliciously dark backstory that does not hamper the pace of Imposter Syndrome, fun personalities and interactions and amazing character designs. I’m more of a Kit fan than Surge, but I feel like she is the better character of the two (they are still both top tier).
Regrettably however, if you’re someone who’s been keeping up with my blogs, you’ll know I dislike Belle The Tinkerer. And while I do feel a little bit more optimistic with her, my thoughts remain largely the same. I’ll keep it short and simple here. Belle’s story is not about moving on from her past and trying to find out where she fits in life. Belle’s story is about moping over the loss of her father, a Mr. Tinker, for nearly FIVE arcs straight. If you read the Issues back to back, the pacing is better, but not only was I someone who joined when Issue 41 released, her storyline repeats over and over. She’s the closest thing to a main character in the Third Saga, and it doesn’t help how repetitive her stories get. She cries about her father, a character cheers her up, she feels better. That is it. Even her role in Issue 50 (despite how much I like Metal Sonic’s interactions with her) feel undercooked.
All-in-all though, the characters that were made for the IDW are a blast. On average, I’d reckon they’re some of the best characters in the series.
The Story
At the time of writing this blog, IDW is an ongoing series. Therefore, I do not know what stories lay beyond Issue 54 and Scrapnik Island’s first Issue. What I can safely say though is that the stories we currently have are certified BANGERS.
The first saga is the saga with the fastest pace (at the time of writing) and I heavily appreciate it for that. It only lasts 12 Issues long (with a 2019 Annual and maybe Tangle and Whisper if you wanna count it), but I find the first saga to be a really fun ride from start to finish. It addresses some of Forces’ faults (Tails’ characterization, Eggman’s whereabouts after the event, why you fought a phantom of Metal Sonic) and does so beautifully.
The story itself is very simple. Badniks are regrouping under the helm of a disguised Neo Metal Sonic. After tackling some Badnik hordes and the Mr. Tinker scenario (rest assured I will get to it in the blog about Sonic’s principals), Sonic learns that Neo Metal Sonic is making trouble and sets off to stop him. Neo Metal gets a hold of Angel Island, goes Super and even turns Metal Overlord once again, but is defeated and reverted back to base Metal Sonic.
Certain highlights (for me) include the slight angst Tails has in Issue 1, Sonic and Amy bouncing off of one another in Issue 2, Knuckles taking Rough and Tumble too seriously in Issue 3, Sonic’s ‘break’ in Issue 4, Elder Scruffy’s view on the Tinker scenario in Issue 5, Sonic vs Neo Metal Sonic in Issue 7, Shadow neutralizing Super Neo Metal Sonic in Issue 10, Starline’s introduction and Sonic checking up on Tails after Metal Overlord’s defeat in Issue 11 and ‘Eggdad’ in Issue 12.
Some gripes I do have with the first saga comes down to the introductions of the two fan favorite characters, Tangle and Whisper. Their introductions are very low-key in stark contrast to the introductions to Dr. Starline and even Rough and Tumble. Issue 6 makes me feel very weird with the Sonic and Shadow debate and I’ll be honest, I’m not ready to tackle that yet. I need to think more about it.
Notoriously, we have Sonic and Metal Sonic in Issue 12 too. My gripe here is with Sonic’s reasoning and… later what Issue 50 would claim. Sonic’s reasoning here isn’t ‘If he tries to attack anyone, he’ll fall to pieces and will eventually come around’, it’s ‘we gave him a chance and he denied it’. Additionally, even though Metal Sonic was deweaponized, in Issue 50 Tails claims that he still had his turbine and metal claws, meaning he could go around impaling people willy nilly.
All in all though, the first saga was a great introduction to the IDW. I will always love the faster pace it has compared to the next three sagas. It introduces and recharacterizes multiple characters (for better or for worse) and while it has the least going on, the way it executes the story it tells is good stuff.
And then we have the Metal Virus saga.
My God. I absolutely love it. I’ll start with the pool of negatives the first time around. Of all the characters in the saga, I feel Charmy and (notoriously) Shadow are the two that were handled the worst. Charmy isn’t terribly written or anything, but he’s the first hero to get fully converted and he doesn’t do much aside from motivate Espio and especially Vector. Even after he’s turned back to normal.
And then we have Shadow. He’s just really stupid in this one. “Cowards run. I win.” You all heard it before. He gets himself infected in the worst possible manner and he’s just an idiot. There are notable inconsistencies with the art and how the Metal Virus works too. There’s a bear character in Issue 16 who hasn’t fully been coated in the stuff yet, but he begins to convert. Meanwhile, Sonic almost gets fully infected multiple times but remains the same as ever throughout the entire saga.
Shadow spindashes through a horde of Zombots and is fine, but when he grabs one with his gloves he gets infected. Knuckles punches a Zombot Shadow near the end with his glove, yet he gets infected. Ultimately though, I can forgive all of this because of just how good everything else is. It is a blast from start to finish. After Eggman is done setting up his Metal Virus and unleashes it on the world, all Hell breaks loose.
This gives us easily some of the best and most memorable moments from the entire cast. I don’t know how well the pacing is given I joined in when Issue 42 was waiting to be released and I read it back to back, but I think the pacing here is still very good. Up until the second half of the saga, we are constantly dealing with a fresh batch of characters. The stories may be similar, but the different characters and their dynamics keeps the pacing fresh.
Sonic’s actions and morals are called into account numerous times. By Vector, by Shadow, by Espio, even himself and Eggman. This is what kicks off the themes of Sonic’s principals in the series. Things get worse and worse, and what makes this so good is that we are constantly seeing how characters react and how they break down or even keep a smile on their face until the bitter end. It is amazing.
The Deadly Six actually feel like they live up to their title here. They are deadly. Their electromagnetic abilities are put on full display here and actually makes sense rather than feeling like a reason why Sonic is still busting Badniks after he teams up with Eggman. The second half is notably slower than the first, but I am very easily able to forgive it because again, the content here is so good.
Alright, time for the highlights. It’s gonna be a long one. Everything involving Eggman and Starline from Issues 14 to 25, Vector showing why he’s the leader, the “Team Chaotix!” shout and Vector piling the lady in cars in Issue 17, everything involving Cream and her family from Issue 18 to Issue 31 and Starline and Orbot’s talk in Issue 18, Omega in Issue 19 and 20, the return of the Cyclone in Issue 21, the chat between the monkey and the girl and Vector’s sacrifice in Issue 22, Sonic and Eggman’s talk in Issue 23, everything in Issue 24, Sonic and Metal Sonic’s talk in Issue 26, the Babylon Rouges vs Zik and Espio vs Zazz in Issue 28, all of Issue 29, Eggman’s escape, Zavok’s “No.”, Knuckles’ continued use of “Any second now.” and Shadow vs Metal Sonic in Issue 30, Amy and Jewel, Tails and Tangle’s talk, Shadow and Rouge’s talk, ‘drunk’ Tangle and tail waggy Whisper in Issue 31 and the Restoration vs the Giga Omega in Issue 32.
Good God, there is a lot of everything. I loved so much of this saga. I really, really do. So many great moments, so many great characters, a phenomenal story. It is the best of IDW so far, in my eyes.
Finally, we move onto the most recent saga. At the time of writing this, I am unaware if it has ended or if it is still going, though I assume the latter. The third saga. This is notably the slowest paced saga, focusing more on stories that last four Issues long with the same characters. It’s not terrible, just a different take on the series. That being said though, I feel as if this is the weakest saga we have so far.
I do not hate it for the record. I am aware that Evan has taken charge of the role of the lead writer with Ian in the back. I do believe both of them have their pros and cons as well. I like Evan’s character dynamics a lot more than Ian’s, but I do think he was better at handling angst. That being said, the third saga is a bit of a doozy regarding the story since there isn’t a big ‘overarching plot’ until Trial by Fire.
Coming hot off of the heels of the Metal Virus saga, I am okay with this. We do not need another grandiose saga so soon. Regardless of which, we’re shown numerous stories with two overarching narratives. Of which are represented and owned by two characters. Starline’s rise and fall with Operation Remaster and Belle’s loss of Mr. Tinker. The best of the third saga in my eyes comes from the Imposter Syndrome mini-series and the character dynamics with Sonic, Tails and Amy outside of it.
Surge and Kit are two excellent and enjoyable characters. Their story is deliciously dark and I cannot wait to see where they go with it in the future. The third Issue of Imposter Syndrome really did it for me.
Highlights include Omega in general, the relationships between Amy, Cream and Rouge and Sonic and Tails in Issues 33 to 36, the return of White Park in general, Shadow roundhouse kicking Clutch in Issue 34, Starline getting his teeth kicked in by Amy and Rouge, Vanilla confronting Amy and Rouge and Shadow and his ‘son’ in Issue 36, Amy immediately sensing where Sonic was, Belle’s blissful ignorance, Tangle and Belle’s dynamic, Jewel’s pride and the greatest character of all time, ‘Monkey Man’ in Issue 37, everything with Sonic, Tails and Amy in Issues 37 to 40, Orbot and Cubot in Issue 38, Belle’s confusion to Tangle’s plan near the end of Issue 39, Belle and Eggman’s talk in Issue 40, ‘Baldy Nosehair’ and  Zavok’s thought process and plan in Issue 41, Sonic in his entirety in Issue 42, The Deadly Six vs Sonic and Tails’ vs Zavok in Issue 43, Sonic sending the Deadly Six back, Starline and The Chaotix in general and Zavok’s proclamation in Issue 44, more of Sonic, Tails and Amy in the beginning, Tangle needing to drag Jewel away from her work in, Tangle daydreaming about Whisper all day and the return of Motobud in Issue 45, Belle and Ashe and Belle and Tangle in Issue 46 and 47, Sonic and Amy in Issue 47, Charmy falling asleep and carrying Vector and Espio out of traffic, Espio’s subtle comments beneath the sewers and The Chaotix vs Clutch, Rouge and Tumble in Issue 48, Sonic’s dialouge and Belle’s lines in Issue 49, just about everything in Issue 50, Sonic throwing Belle into an alley, Eggman seeing right through Sonic’s distraction and Metal Sonic’s subtle rage in Issue 51.
As for things I didn’t like, this is gonna sound really harsh but anything involving Belle that I didn’t mention above I was not a fan of. I didn’t quite like her introduction, Zeti Hunt destroyed her as a character for me and I found Tinker’s letter to be really dumb. For as much as I like Starline, his part in the B Plot of Zeti Hunt alongside Belle had no connection to the actual story. I don’t think anybody would ask how he got the Imposters out so quickly if they just cut it from the story.
The drama between the characters in Issue 45 I was not a fan of either. I think it lasted too long and it felt jammed in there. I did really enjoy the small panels when Belle and Metal Sonic did interact, but I found it weird how quickly and anti-climactic their part ended. Maybe that’ll change when Issue 52 rolls around.
So yeah, this might be my least favorite saga so far (could change in the future), but it’s moreso because someone has to unfortunately be at the bottom. With just a few stories, it could swing to swap places with the first saga.
Before I conclude this blog, I wanna talk about something going around Tumblr. Lately I’ve been seeing an Anon go on the blogs of people who don’t like IDW and I gotta call them out for it. I do not endorse people who spread negativity nor do I support people who try to cram the series down the throats of people who do not like it. If you’ve tasted the series and do not like it, it is okay. You do not need to keep chewing and nobody should force you to.
So yeah, that is it. Over 3,000 characters. Needless to say, I wanted to pump out everything I could regarding the main series of the IDW and why I enjoy it. I also love the mini-series and most of the Annuals stories, though I do not believe I will be covering them. With that said, if you stuck around for the entire ride, thank you so much for coming this far into listening why I like the Sonic IDW series and I will see you all next blog. Ciao.

6 and 8 for the fic asks :)
6- Share one of your weaknesses.
Hmm… well, theres a good handful of those. I struggle with pacing more than anything, I think. Always rushing things along too quickly, I really struggle to slow the narrative down. I like to get things done, yknow? get to the point. So I have a really really hard time writing slower, introspective stuff.
8- Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Boy, that’s tough. I don’t think I’ve ever really written any dialogue that I keep going back to— or at least nothing I remember. If I had to put something here, though, without going through my entire backlog, then… probably this?
***
“Is it.. usually like this?”
“Hm?”
Tails isn’t sure how to put his thoughts into words, but he tries anyway— “You know, dangerous, and disruptive, and...” he waves a hand around, trying to capture shape of what he wants to say. Knuckles would get it, he thinks, and suddenly he feels very... “lonely.”
“... it isn’t... always lonely. Sometimes Eggy decides to keep things fresh with Metal Sonic, or he sends his little robot minions to yell terrible insults. Guess he’s just saving the bigger stuff for later.” He shrugs.
That isn’t exactly what Tails was getting at, but it’s enough of an answer anyway. “How long have you been fighting him alone?”
Sonic stands, rather abruptly. “I think that’s enough of a heart-to heart for today, buddy. Let’s just get the rest of this over with, yeah? Then you can go back to your island and I can go back to my life.”
(How much of this is your life? Tails thinks, but doesn’t ask.)
***
I remember it because someone copy pasted it to save to their bookmark on ao3. I like to look at my bookmarks occasionally, because it gives me little glimpses into what people might say to recommend my fics to others, or just their own thoughts, yk? And when I found this in the bookmarks, I was blown away. I thought, no way I wrote this, but I did.
This chunk is from Super Sonic Speed. Super sonic speed is the second sonic fanfic I’ve ever written, and I went into it knowing very little about classic or modern Sonic— I was mostly familiar with the comics, at the time. I also wrote it at a very difficult time for me personally, as I was going through tremendous personal loss and considering if I ever wanted to write again. So, in that way, it’s very near and dear to me. Without it, I might have given up on writing altogether, and I’m so, so glad I didn’t.
I also just like this as a bit of dialogue. What they’re saying, what they aren’t, what you can read between the lines. What they both take away from the conversation. It’s just fun :)

Sonic Lost His Rings!
When Sonic’s rings went tumbling down the mountain in Siberia, I assumed he’d try to retrieve them.  But they were kind-of forgotten about, what with Tails passing out and the impending avalanche.
I can see why the filmmakers wrote it that way: it means Sonic has to call Tom and admit he’s in trouble, and it leads to wacky wedding shenanigans as Tom tries to make a portal.  But when I came out the cinema, I realised I wanted the loss of Sonic’s rings to be a bigger moment.
I mean, those rings date back to Sonic’s childhood.  Before he fled his home planet, Longclaw told him, “These rings will be your most important possession.”  And they were.  We could tell they were.  We saw Sonic’s dismay when he accidentally knocked them over while playing table tennis with himself.  We saw his distress when he realised he’d lost them through the portal to San Francisco.
Those rings were the core of the first film.  It was during the quest to get them back that Sonic finally found friendship with his beloved Donut Lord.  Those rings were the reason the Wachowskis became a family.  (Well, them and the baseball explosion.)
So to see those very same rings discarded so casually in the sequel ... it felt wrong, somehow.
Those were my initial thoughts.
But after thinking some more, I’ve realised that the lack of fanfare to the ring loss is actually quite fitting.
After all, why were the rings so important in the first film?  Because they were Sonic’s only means of escape if he or his powers were ever discovered.  He couldn’t retreat to the Mushroom Planet without a portal.  He had to have the rings with him at all times, just in case.
But in the second film, there’s no mention of the possibility that Sonic will need to leave Earth.  It’s not a thought that crosses anyone’s mind.  He’s settled here now.  He has Tom and Maddie and Ozzie in his life, and he has a proper bedroom with a race car bed.  He has that sense of security that wasn’t there in the first film.
Arguably, it’s okay that Sonic lost his rings, because he doesn’t need them anymore.
Long ago, he made a decision not to run away, not to flee from his problems.  He’s facing danger head-on to protect the people he cares about.  And because he’s already made that commitment, and we know he’ll keep his word, the fact that he can’t back out is no big deal.

Sonic & Tails R: A Love Letter To Miles Tails Prower’s Characterization
Tumblr media
Warning: This will contain massive spoilers for the short radio play series of Sonic & Tails R. If you haven’t listened to the radio play yet on Youtube, I’d highly recommend any hardcore Sonic fan who hasn’t seen it check it out. It’s one Hell of a treat.
For as far back as I can remember in my childhood, Tails’ story of trying to step outta Sonic’s shadow has been such a resonating one for myself. Even when I was a much younger kid playing my Dreamcast, during entries like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, there was some idea lingering about why Tails just stood out more emotionally in his journey to grow beyond depending on Sonic all the time for help. Now here I am a young adult in my late twenties having such a deeper appreciation of this little two tailed genius kiddo because he’s got an important element that’s made him so beloved for good reason.
In spite of his genius being a rival to that of Eggman’s high IQ and of course proving to surpass it plenty of times when scenarios boil down to being a high stakes battle, Miles Tails Prower beneath it all is still just like any one of us. We’re all trying to find our place in this world about what defines us for who we are as unique people. He wants to be more than just seen as someone who’s alongside Sonic The Hedgehog’s never say die attitude, but prove he’s plenty capable of standing on his own two feet to protect everything the kid holds dear to himself. Underdog stories, when they’re naturally executed very well, can reel me in so easily. They are very much my bread & butter trope I adore seeing.
Tumblr media
To no one’s surprise, the two Sonic Adventure’s iterations portrayal of Tails’ characterization are hands down some of my favorite writing for the two tailed fox, regarding what the 3D era has done toward him, development wise. It gave him more of an existential struggle to endure like, “What happens when Sonic isn’t around to help stop Eggman? What if I’m not strong enough to accomplish what he can?”, making Tails plight to be seen as an equal all the more endearing when stopping Eggman in his climatic battle against the Egg Walker in Station Square. This here is a great use of a timeless lesson you can apply in life that if you set you heart and mind on anything, there isn’t a thing you can’t accomplish on your own, which is why many fell in love with Sonic Adventure 1 & 2′s writing for Miles Tails Prower’s journey of independence.
As someone who comes from a large family tree of relatives, I feel the weight of my existence on my shoulders at a number of points more than I’d care to count, admittedly. Seeing Tails struggle with his sense of purpose, in contrast to observing how much Sonic has accomplished with his carefree, yet deeply compassionate attitude, means the world to me in watching another trying to comprehend their value as a whole on how much they matter, overall. This is a big part of why my fondness for SA1 & 2′s quality has never wavered over these years, besides still obviously enjoying most of their game play mechanics. People can try to debate to their heart’s content on whether the Adventure games still hold up in their own eyes, but I’ll always respect them for how they tried to develop certain characters, such as Tails, Gamma, and Shadow The Hedgehog notably, to attempt expanding upon their characters, as well as world building.
I won’t bother going into a rant about how Sonic’s recent 3D games have butchered Tails’ personality & relatable nature, due to the current writers in charge of handling the cast of characters. More or less, I greatly empathize toward the notion many have already stated about Tails being so cowardly and God forbid, looking at Lost World, downright severely mean spirited. Rather, I’m obviously writing this lengthy post to breakdown why Sonic & Tails R succeeds, where these certain 3D games have greatly faltered in exploring Tails’ emotional dilemmas as an insecure, yet still having the courage to prove himself, talented boy full of hidden potential he doesn’t quite realize, until his back is against the wall in life threatening situations.

“That day, I realized I couldn’t depend on you forever. Not that I can’t depend on you, but like, “What happens when Sonic isn’t here?”, you know?”
Sonic & Tails R further delves into this fundamental rule of what has defined Tails in Sonic Adventure 1 & 2′s stories of events where Sonic wasn’t there to aid his best bud in taking down Eggman’s evil efforts for global domination, most importantly his fear of defending the Earth without his role model. Besides what I already stated in SA1′s events in Station where he stopped the Egg Walker, as well as the missile Eggman launched from detonating before their climatic battle, Tails watched Sonic blow up in ARK’s capsule presuming him to be dead after Sonic imparted how much faith he has in the kid’s abilities to be truly strong in the face of any foe. Sonic & Tails R manages to use fan service in a way that doesn’t feel like “pandering” for the sake of it, using this past canon material to do more of an in-depth study about Miles’ anxieties of existing without Sonic.
Wouldn’t put it past them if EmuEmi & crew were using SA2′s Sonic death fake out scene in that space capsule to further add trauma to Tails’ psychological attachment to Sonic, as well as his insecurities of depending on him too much, to boot. While it’s never obviously outright stated in their radio play, I definitely believe they were factoring this element into adding dramatic exploration for why Tails is so self-conscious about the worst case scenario of permanently losing Sonic. Watching Sonic supposedly die put Tails into a deeper state of self-reflection, so I very much enjoyed how they went using these past events to create a thorough exploration about him learning just as it’s important to realize you need to stand up for yourself without using someone else as a crutch all the time, it’s doubly important to remember there’s nothing wrong about asking someone for help when you’re about to be down and out with little options left.
Sonic & Tails R beautifully builds upon the foundation these two games’ stories left behind years ago, creating new damn great material to explore with the most iconic characters of this cast, Sonic & Tails brotherly dynamic. I’ve been praising Sonic & Tails R out the wazoo for how well it captured Tails underdog story of overcoming death defying odds, but it managed to remind me how simply adorable and outright wonderfully endearing their brotherly chemistry is as a whole. This is a big friendly reminder Sonic isn’t all about being cocky wise cracking character making meta jokes left and right, but he can be plenty capable of showing serious compassion to anyone he values as an ally and friend. This is no greater evident, than with him verbally lifting Tails up in his time of need when he’s self-depreciating his own significance. It can be seen in Episodes 2, 4, and 7 giving Tails motivational pieces of advice.
    Episode 2 In Adabat’s Cavern
-Sonic: Wasn’t it your radar that helped us find these Emerald shards in the first place? How could you be slowing us down when you’ve gotten us this far?
-Tails: But, I...
-Sonic: I could never make something like that. You’re the smartest person I know, Tails. One way or another, we’ll figure this out, count on it.
Episode 4 In Holoska After Helping Silver Save The Chao
-Sonic: So, what was that back there? At the cave, in Adabat? -Tails: What do you mean? -Sonic: Frozen stiff. Confidence shot. It’s not like you. It was more than feeling like you were “slowing us down”, right?
Episode 7 Inside The Egg Carrier 3
-Sonic: Let’s split up! I’ll distract them and you can go after the energy source. -Tails: You’re gonna take them on all by yourself!? Let me help, Sonic! -Sonic: No time for this, Tails. Stop overthinking and just go! If I can get their attention, I’ll take the heat off of you and that room you’re going to probably won’t have any security. Take this emerald and I’ll take the other one we have. It’ll lead me right to you after I beat these guys. -Tails: O-Okay... -Sonic: Hold on, Tails! Listen to me. Don’t stop moving and be careful. I’ll be fine and so will you!
Sonic & Tails R remembers the most crucial detail of their important relationship. One isn’t better than the other and needing to always rely upon that notion for helping one outta a jam, but instead showcases how they’re equals as a team/bros. Sonic may be super fast and strong, however Tails has his intelligence to analyze situations in a different angle Sonic wouldn’t necessarily consider, per say. Which isn’t to say Tails couldn’t put up a fight either, as we’ve seen in SA1 & SA2′s stories where he faced Eggman one on one with no outside help to best him at his own game of wits & strength.
We get see the apex of this idea through Tails facing Eggman in his super improved mecha walker. Although Tails may get thrown for a loop here at first by Eggman, it’s his villainous speech about winners and losers in their world that ironically does the exact opposite of what he intended. Eggman wanted to crush Tails’ sense of self worth before finishing him off, but all it did was reignite the very lesson Sonic told him earlier before running to distract Eggman’s robotic minions. That said lesson of he’s more than capable of facing dangerous threats
Tumblr media
-Eggman: Poor boy. We all have to learn this lesson, sooner or later. In every game there’s no one you can depend on. You’re all alone and you’re either a winner, or a loser. And as you know, loser’s lose all of their lives. Say goodbye, fox!
-Tails: You’re wrong! I can depend Sonic! I won’t let him down! I can’t because...Because he’s depending on me! And because of that I won’t lose to you!
This radio play strikes a good balance in utilizing the grey moral area about depending on someone vs it being an unhealthy display of attachment derived from serious insecurity. Word’s can’t begin to describe how much I loved this moment to pieces because it’s oh so important for writing Tails’ characterization. If you’re going to tackle him being super self conscious about his reliance on Sonic, then you gotta remember why they are so close to one another to begin with. Sonic & Tails have an unbreakable connection, considering they’ve brought out their best qualities in themselves from being together as individuals. For Sonic, it’s his older brother compassion to Tails to bring him outta feeling melancholy. For Tails, the kid finally understands there isn’t anything wrong with depending on Sonic when he needs it most.
After all, that’s what a real healthy friendship is all about. Whether you’re giving someone a dose of tough love, or simply a piece of motivational advice, it defines how much you truly care about someone, period. Sonic & Tails have this very same power from their bond, which is why new emeralds form from their compassionate friendship that hasn’t been shaken after all the years they’ve been together. Another detail worth noting is it adds to the lore in an impactful manner when Tikal expresses in Episode 8 about positive connections and thoughts from users of the Chaos Emeralds having a strong will & heart. Using the ideas they had for encapsulating Sonic & Tails’ dynamic to create new emeralds from their love for each other as brothers adds an emotional weight.
Tumblr media
“So, Sonic’s not the only one who harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds? I can too!?”
“Yes, you have a strong heart! There is a power waiting to be unlocked within you, as well.”
I’d always daydreamed about in my childhood seeing Super Sonic & Tails take down a threatening villain, whether it was Eggman or different powerful creature such as Chaos or the Biolizard. You can imagine how fucking giddy I was beyond belief to see this artwork of Episode 9′s cover for the radio play. Tails not only got to have another one on one with Eggman, but a team up with Super Sonic in his own respective Super form? Sign me the Hell up! Talk about an all you eat buffet of good writing for Tails’ journey reaching its climax. Getting to hear this play out, alongside the amazing song of Fly With Me, made it authentically feel like something straight outta if there were an installment of Sonic Adventure 3 being brought into reality, which certainly feels like it now.
Episode 9 has so much awesome stuff with Sonic & Tails working together in their super forms. Particularly, my favorite scene is at the beginning when Sonic teaches Tails how to navigate his newly acquired speed in his respective Super form. My heart melted hearing Sonic help Tails through it all, while he was overjoyed about how fun this new form is for himself. Wholesome Sonic & Tails content is the perfect daily serotonin for me, easily. It’s an awesome fun fact to know they used a scrapped boss from Tails Tornado segment in SA1 for Eggman’s flying dragon three headed robot in their big final battle, once again using old canon material in a very effective manner to boost the quality of their fan made story.
It’s been a real thrill to hear Mike Pollock play a straight forward serious Eggman making my day in more ways than one, considering that’s another thing I’ve been yearning for desperately besides Tails being a competent character again. His performance in Episode 9 when Eggman gave that speech about how long he’s been at odds with Sonic & Tails stubborn will power was simply excellent. The moment he told his mechanical dragon to crush them I got serious chills. That’s the Eggman I remember and grew up with. He could be a hammy villain sure, but Eggman wasn’t a doormat that could be swiftly beaten. Robotnik can be considered a serious threat in his own right and this radio play nailed it down to the very letter with how much he predicted their actions.
Tumblr media
“Sonic, all I ever wanted to do was be like you. You’re not scared of anyone or anything. I could never be like that. At least, so I thought. I grew from that, but then I got so caught up in trying to prove it that thought it wasn’t okay to depend upon anyone, especially you. I just didn’t want to be that scared little kid in Station Square anymore, but now I understand. It’s okay to depend on your friends. It all means is that we’re stronger together, so the next time Eggman comes back and wants to start any trouble with you, or any of my friends. Emeralds or no emeralds, he’s gonna have to get past me and he won’t!”
Sonic By Episode 1′s End: Aww, yeah! Adventure, here we come!
Tails By Episode 10′s End: Aww, yeah! Adventure, here I come!
Turn your thoughts into power. Be all that you can be.
The ending legit got me choked up because what of they decided to do for wrapping up Tails journey in a poetic fashion. Having Tails go off on his own separate journey to grow more independence pulled on my heart strings perfectly. Very much so, as I’m transitioning slowly, but surely, into gaining more freedom to go out into the outside world in my own life. Concluding the story, by Sonic & Tails holding onto the two Emeralds their bond had formed from positive energy, due to their powerful friendship, was so heartwarming. This is how you write an overview of what makes Sonic & Tails chemistry work so well as it does.
Sonic & Tails R’s ending represents while some things never change, like Sonic and Tails bond for each other, it also shows there’s very much a necessity for people to grow, hence Tails’ whole solo journey in the epilogue. People can’t stay in the same place forever and will need go about finding their own path, even if it means saying “goodbye” periodically for a notable amount of time.
It’s for these reasons I’ve listed in great explanation above throughout this detailed post cement Sonic & Tails R high on my list of favorite Sonic fan projects. They captured the magic of what made the Adventure games so beloved. Gonna be looking back on this passion project for many years to come. Everyone involved in this year long effort of a project dating all the way back Summer of 2020 ought to be immensely proud for how much their hard efforts paid off in the long run.
Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts here!
Hope you enjoyed.
