So how do you guys pronounce some of the names in tfota? I found out that I pronounce some of them differently because of my first language so here we go,

Cardan: Car-dan (like the automobile and the nickname for Daniel. I heard it's supposed to be prounonced like Car-den?)

Jude: Joode

Madoc: Má-dock (probably the name that is the most different than how it's suppose to be pronounced. I heard it was suppose to be Ma-dec??)

Vivienne: Vivi-eenn

Taryn: Tahreen

Dulcamara: Dool-kah-mārah

Liriope: Lili-wrope (me thinking it was "Lilirope" this whole time until recently)

Vikram Tipeh (syah oc made by me)

If you look hard enough you will find what you were looking for although the truth may terrify you.

Born in the capital of the Eorewen empire, Rin’merw, Vikram, along with his brother and 2 sisters, was the result of the marriage between a erowean healer (commonly known as Suj) and a meizan merchant.

As customary, Vikram studied under the watchful eyes of his masters for the first 8 years of his life. At 14 years of age he was to start his apprenticeship. Since he was the oldest son in his family he was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps, so he started tagging along in his now mentor’s business trips, quietly observing the trades.

In his third year of traveling he encountered a strange creature in Yer’nasih. It looked and acted similar to a human but its red in red eyes and odd chittering sounds gave away its monstrous origins.

What at the time was unknown to Vikram was that encounter would change the course of his life. He had encountered a Mer, a body possessed by evil spirits, and quite angry ones indicated by its red eyes. It had tried to kill several people but the bright sun obscured its vision and almost burned its skin.

The creature was later caught by a person in white robes but that meeting with the spirit left a mark on Vikram. While still being in his father’s apprenticeship he started studying theology, reading countless books and scriptures while traveling by sea to deliver the products.

After he completed his apprenticeship he worked as a merchant alongside his his father for the first year and continued his work independently afterwards for 4 more years. But what had happened a long ago still unsettled him. It might have been just a fabrication his mind created while out in the scorching sun of the Meizan sun. Still, the memory pestered him, haunting his dreams even after a decade.

So he decided. He went to the Sima monastery in the Zayakini mountains searching for answers.

Search close enough and you will find answers, and answers he found.

For 6 years he stayed at the monastery and became a monk. With the use of his skepticism that over time turned into devotion (for his cause, although the other monks didn’t have to know that). He surprisingly got along well with the others, forming long lasting friendships.

So naturally he was devastated when he returned to the monastery or the burnt remains of it. It was probably the doing of prince Azik, as an assertion of power, especially since the monastery was a symbol of the religious power within the empire. Or maybe it was just a kitchen fire. Either way he didn’t find any survivors and most of his already little belongings were ash.

Vikram was forced to relocate. He went back to his family home in Rin’merw and stayed there while studying for the last two years at the Tiwin church. There he became a priest and he got the Qi marking. When asking about the Mer, he now was answered with honesty and the idea horrified him. He was now set on exterminating them and the evil they brought to the people and world.

Vikram was told to go to Yer’nasih and try his hand at becoming a Syah member. After another year of studies and devotion he was tested by the Syah and he passed.

Later he cut off his hair (as it was customary for syah members) and he traversed the Seh desert, finally arriving at the Dirz citadel made in the surprisingly cool desert rocks.

From then on Vikram started his life as a Syah priest.

Some funny Syah information

The general church worships the gods and perform the burials. At least 2 Syah members are assigned to big churches and put the souls of the dead in the rocks so later on they can exorcise them at the temple. Vice versa 2 members of the church are assigned to bring the Syah the stones in which the souls are trapped.

They are mostly unaware of the Syah, only knowing about them since they produce the fiber from the Ziff’s (a typical desert bug) exoskeleton. This fiber is made to create durable and hardened clothes that can even regulat the wearer’s body temperature and are harder to penetrate.

Who are they

(Just silly little guys) The Syah are a subcategory of the church. They are in charge of the Ziff fiber production although that is a facade for their actual purpose is to exorcise the souls of the deceased, at least the ‘bad’ part that is called Mer. If Mer aren’t exorcised they accumulate and ‘misfortune’ strikes. A few are qualified to be part of the Syah since their lifestyle in the isolated Serh desert is more difficult than the one of an ordinary priest. They also must be skilled in the ways of a more peculiar exorcism(which aren’t the ones typically used by priests since to properly exorcise) (basically they have to sing and dance💀)

Ziff

The Ziffs resemble the likes of scarabs, the different colours differentiating the two at first glance.

In the early stages of life Ziff have a signature green colour to them and are of small scale, just a bit bigger than a bean. As they get older and shed their exoskeleton they start having a more yellow colour to them. In this stage they are about one fingers length. In the last stage of their life their exoskeleton has darkened, almost the colours of midnight. The biggest recorded Ziff was the length of a palm or around 15 cm lenght and 7 cm wide.

Green garments are traditionally worn by the extremely wealthy as a symbol of status since 1m of fabric is around 1000- 1500 exoskeleton and natural dye of the Ziff. Those of a smaller rank may afford yellow or black garments (depending on wealth)

Syah members start off with simple black robes but over time they get changed with ones made of the Ziffs black thread. In the day(although they usually go out at night) they wear white-creme fabrics so that they don’t attract as much heat from the sun. A mask (usually with a pair of googles) is an essential component in their outings, one which prevents to sand hit their face or enter their eyes.

Villagers from villages nearby and Syah members wear flowy clothes and fabrics. Hats or scarfs around the head and face are essential to not get sunstroke. Shoes are light and commonly aren’t worn in houses.

Houses, in the Seh desert and its surrounding, are made of clay and partially submerged in the earth for natural cooling. Traditionally the walls have a slight blue colour to them as a way of replicating the sea.

Water is a the most valuable resource in the Seh desert. Villages that are situated near a river are wealthier since they sell some of their water to the Syah since no other big group of people are able to survive there. By selling the Ziff thread and purifying Mer stones they are able to afford living in the desert.

Sun and moon

People on Ridqen have always venerated the sun and the moon. They were great deities in ancient times, one of the most popular myths of creation centering around the two celestial bodies.

It is said that the sun was a brighter star than it already is. Back then it got bored of only ruling Ridgen where nothing could survive the heat of the sun, so it tried creating humans. What resulted weren’t humans but a twisted version of them. They were selfish, self centered and often got into wars over meaningless things. All of these only lasted a few minutes since the heat of the sun was so strong it melted the skin of their bones, even if they hid in caves or in the little shade provided on the planet.

So the sun gave up and stopped creating humans. That was until the moon came along.

It and the sun tried to make humans again and this time they succeeded. This time the new humans learned from the mistakes of the previous ones and lived more peacefully. The sun and moon decided to each watch over the humans in designated parts of the day so they created the day and the night.

But something happened.

The sun started getting jealous of the attention the humans were giving the moon since in the night the temperature wasn’t as high and people thrived in the night rather than in the day. Like so, the sun burned the humans but left them alive and even if they keep their peacefulness they became prone to war and bloodshed once more.

In today’s day and age the sun and moon are still viewed as important deities, mostly venerated by the Syah branch of the church although their influence extends to the three continents, especially in Meizan.
