I think James Amber is an interesting and complex morally grey character and although I absolutely don’t excuse his actions, I really want to try and dig deeper into his character just to understand him better, because I genuinely think he had so much potential and that he was greatly written, I just wish we had more content that would explore him as a person a little more.
That being said, I really hope Rose leaves him and finds happiness (and has a good relationship with Rachel) after Chloe tells Rachel the truth, because she deserved better and though she kept silent the whole time about Rachel’s biological mother too I don’t think she was a bad person, or had ill intentions, and I don’t think she deserved to lose Rachel as a daughter either. I also think her relationship with James was incredibly toxic, to be honest.

Dreamcatcher Chptr. 20
With no word from Chloe, Clark grew all the more anxious if what trouble she could potentially run into like before at the junkyard.
Being in Rachel's company helped soothe his worries quite easily as he simply napped with her in her hospital bed while her parents waited outside of the room, waiting for something to happen. Due to the heavy lack of interest in other things except Rachel's condition, both James and Rose subsequently fell asleep.
The lack of warmth in the room resulted in the two lovers snuggling together with care, in fear of pressuring Rachel's wounded, bandaged arm. They still laid on top of the bed with Clark still on his back and Rachel now snuggled up against his side with her face nuzzled in the nook of his neck. They were so still that their breathing rhyme matched.
It wad around midday when a visitor came to check up on Rachel. Clark's mate, Mick McGee, managed to discover the room Rachel Amber occupied with the intent to share his empathies with the parents by presenting a bouquet of gladioli flowers he'd brought.
A knock came from the door to the room. The noise startled both Clark and Rachel awake, to which he reluctantly climbed out of bed and dragged his feet across the floor to the door. Clark opened the door where he found himself in the company of his school mate, much to his surprise that he'd come to visit.
"Mick?"
"Hey, mate. I, uh, just wanted to swing by and drop these off." Mick replied casually.
Mick stretched the arm he held the bouquet over to Clark for him to take. The act of kindness was so touching Clark couldn't help but give his friend a hug. Given the current situation with Rachel, it was emotionally draining to sit through her recovery stage.
"You okay, brother? You look like shit." Mick asked concerningly when he noticed Clark struggling to keep his eyes open.
"I'll be okay." Clark replied hoarsely. "I've just been inside with Rachel, making sure she's okay."
The Irishman put his hand on Clark's shoulder and shot a comforting smile his way to further show his support.
"She needs you more than what's said. Look after her well, brother."
Mick then took his leave by saying goodbye to Clark and the Amber's on his way out. It meant a lot to Clark that his mate showed up to express himself towards Clark.
There was one glance towards James and Rose before Clark ducked back into the room to lie back down with Rachel. Before he laid back down with her, he put the flowers on a table and made his way back over to the bed. He judged the fact that they were both so cold sleeping was because they'd slept on top of the bed the whole time. As much as he wanted to fix the sheets over them, Clark conjured up a better motive in relieving them of the cold sensation by searching for blankets.
By rummaging around the room, Clark arrived to the conclusion that there were no blankets to suffice. As a result of his absence, Rachel stirred where she laid. Strenuously, Rachel lifted her head up and craned it around to get a look around the room for the person she sought.
"Clark?" Rachel called faintly.
Hastily, Clark rushed over to Rachel's side and knelt down beside her bed. He took her hand into his and gently caressed the back of her hand with his palm.
"I'm here, baby. I'm still here." Clark muttered soothingly. "You feeling okay? Any better?"
In response, Rachel hummed and nodded her head very faintly.
"I'm going to just lift you up so I can pull the quilt up, okay?"
Clark proceeded to reach his arm underneath Rachel's body and lifted her up a bit so he could yank the quilt down before pulling it over her. Now that he was satisfied, Clark climbed back into bed with her and laid on his side this time so that they were facing each other. This position wasn't satisfactory for her so she crawled on top of him, much to his bewilderment. Clark didn't question it and allowed it.
"Happy now?" He asked in a hush voice, almost inaudible.
Rachel hummed and rested her head on his chest.
"You're so comfy." She moaned with her eyes shut.
"Mick stopped by to drop some flowers off for you. And he sends his regards, hoping you make a quick recovery."
"That's so sweet of him."
She could feel his breathe on the top of her where she laid. Her body moved rhythmically as he breathed which caught her into a trance that made her want to pass out but she wanted to stay awake.
If there was one thing that was on her mind, it was the matter of Chloe locating and discovering her birth mother. The strain on hearing the outcome made her consider the possibilities endlessly as to whether she would get to see Sera or not.
"Have you heard from Chloe?" Rachel asked anxiously.
"No," he answered with a nasally exhale. "I haven't heard anything from her yet. You'll be the first to know when she does."
A sudden wave of emotion caused Rachel to act out and break down. Clark instantly knew something was off when he could feel Rachel's body shake slightly, as well as hearing her sobs.
Since she was already in arms reach, Clark wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head.
"Babe. You know I love you. Everything will be alright. All it takes is a little time, and we'll be okay. As soon as you're all better and once we hear from your mom, we can get out of here. Just like we planned - sort of  even though it wasn't exactly the type of plan you think of beforehand, more like one of those, 'we'll cross that bridge when we get there' type of plans." Clark cooed soothingly as his hand rubbed circles on her back.
Rachel sniffled and rolled off of Clark's body and onto her back. He laid on his side, facing her while she stared at the ceiling which made her recall Friday night when he lit up her room in a glorious spectacle of constellations and stars.
"I love you, Clark. You're the only one I can trust, the only person I can truly rely on." Rachel whimpered weepily.
"I'll be by your side, always."
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
Clark let out a frustrated groan and rolled around to grab his phone on the bedside table.
With a quick glance at the caller ID, Clark realised it was his sister calling him.
"Hey. How did you get on?" Clark asked with an attempt of excitement but ultimately came out as lazy and disinterested.
"Clark... there's something I gotta tell you. And you aren't going to like it..." Chloe responded cautiously.
Judging the tone in her voice, Clark knew that this was something he needed to brace himself for; for Rachel's sake. He sat up and rolled his feet out of the bed, leaving Rachel worried about whom he was talking to.
Anxiously, Rachel sat up on her good arm. A frown formed naturally on her face as she attempted to reach out to him until the striking pain in her arm reminded her of how prohibited movement in that arm - per the doctor's orders, Rachel was to restrict physical strain in her left arm and that she was to remain in hospital until next Wednesday.
By the time the call ended, Clark was in an emotion struggle, fighting every urge to lash out in a fit of rage towards Rachel's father.
"Clark? Baby, what's the matter?"
Rachel watched as the phone dropped from Clark's ear. He still clutched onto it, being the only thing he could release a bit of his anger onto before he turned around and sat in the chair next to her bed. It was very disappointing for him to be isolating himself from her love and warmth when he suddenly found it difficult to get his words together.
"Rachel... I've got to tell you something." Clark murmured without making eye contact.
He could only briefly look in her general direction but when her fingers brushed down his face, noticing the comforting smile on her face broke him even more until he found it within himself to tell her the truth.
"That was Chloe on the phone. She, uh... she told me she got in contact with your mother. Sera." Clark began, trailing off purposefully so to allow Rachel to adjust to the bits of information he was spilling separately.
"Okay? So what did Chloe tell you?" Rachel asked keenly as she sat upright.
"Nothing good. She told me that-that your father did something... horrible. When Chloe went to your house, she found a locked drawer, and inside was a box with some letters and a phone. The letters... were addressed to you from Sera. Your father hid all of them from you, even some about how Sera was beginning to improve and got off the drugs for a year: all to see you and take up her right to be your mother."
"What...?"
"And on the phone..." Clark said hoarsely from how emotional he was becoming. "Were messages. They were between James a-and Damon Merrick. James orchestrated this thing between him and Damon: to stop her from trying to become a stronger, better person."
"No... Are you serious?! S-So this whole time, she... she was trying to get better... for me?"
The further he went on, the harder it became for Clark to get out what left he had to say. Even his eyes became watery, but not as much as Rachel's who was already breaking down emotionally from this revelation.
"He had Damon drug Sera to stop her from becoming your mother because he was too selfish to give her another chance at being the mother she wanted to be."
"No. No, no, no!!" Rachel cried.
Her distress summoned her parent's presence, to whom they kept their distance, especially James who was to face the ramifications of his actions. When Rachel denied her father's loving embrace, she shot her good arm out, gesturing for him to stay away from her.
"DON'T! GET AWAY FROM ME!!" Rachel snapped.
To her reassurance, Clark jumped up to his feet. Hesitantly, he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her while she sat on her bed, their bodies rocked sided to side.
James looked at his daughter with concern until he realised that there was only one reason why she could've been acting this way.
She knew the truth.
His expression of concern shifted to that of disappointment and guilt. No matter what he did to protect his daughter, she still got hurt in the end; despite his best efforts to provide her with a proper family and a life that even Sera believed she was incapable of providing with James.
But what shook him to his core was how she looked at him. The cold, emotionless fury boiling inside shook James down to the bone as even while some of Rachel's vision on his was slightly obscured by Clark's arm, she still had the audacity to look her father in the eyes and transmit a message he feared what she couldn't dare say out loud.
"You're dead to me..."

Dreamcatcher Chptr. 18
It was the weekend. The one day where Clark hoped to sleep in turned out better than he'd hoped.
At sunrise, Clark awoke to the scent of perfume tickling his nose.
As Clark opened his eyes, he quickly realised that he'd stayed over at Rachel's place. Not only that, but he also caught his girlfriend half hidden behind her closet door, lacking a shirt. She was oblivious to his staring at her as his eyes attended to her exposed skin. Her hair hung behind her shoulders and over the black bra she had clipped on before it was concealed by a shirt Rachel slipped on, followed by a black jacket.
"Good morning." Clark spoke at last. He let out a yawn and rubbed his eyes as he sat up and rolled his feet off the bed.
The brunette leaned backwards a tad and looked in his direction before sending him a smile.
"Hey, good morning. How did you sleep?" Rachel replied sweetly.
"Pretty good, despite getting a few hours of sleep."
"It's only eight thirty in the morning."
"Only eight thirty?" Clark asked, surprised.
With a hum and a shake of her head, Rachel wandered over to where he laid and sat down side-saddled on her bed with him. Her hand raised up to touch his face whilst making strong eye contact.
"Thank you for being here for me, Clark. I'm feeling a lot better now. If you weren't here... I-I don't know what I'd do." Rachel stated bluntly.
"Of course, babe. You know I'll always be there for you no matter what." Clark expressed sincerely. "I should probably ring Chloe. See if she hasn't gone to see her dealer yet."
Mentioning this brought Rachel discomfort as she had yet to see her own dealer. All this talk of drugs had put her off that she couldn't imagine what would happen if her father found out she herself was a drug addict.
But they had a mission to do. They had to find Rachel's biological mother.
Reaching into his pocket, Clark withdrew his phone and contacted his sister's cell phone. Patiently, he waited as he held the phone up to his ear and listened to it ring.
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
"Ugh... huh? H-Hello?" A lazy voice moaned through the other end of the call.
"Oh my God," groaned Clark awkwardly. "I caught you at a bad time."
"What? Ew! No. What do you want? Do you realise what time it is?"
Clark pinched the bridge of his nose, remaining completely composed. "It's only eight thirty, Chloe. You're not a vampire, so wake up already. I need to ask you for a solid."
Out of his periphery, Rachel sat anxiously, glaring imploringly at her boyfriend for news as he carried out his conversation with his twin sister.
"What sort of solid are we talking about?" Chloe asked sceptically, her voice carrying audible doubt and caution.
It was very rare that Clark would ask favours from his sister, while vice versa, Chloe would always ask her brother to watch her back for all the times she got into trouble but only narrowly avoided it thanks to his compassion and good nature.
So hearing this, Chloe knew that whatever Clark wanted, it was nothing good.
"Can you reach out to your dealer for me?"
"What?" Chloe chuckled. "Are you being cereal right now? You're really stooping that low you're going to start copying me?"
"Oh, go fuck yourself. That's not what I'm talking about. Well, it is drug-related, but it has nothing to do with me."
"Or does it involve Rachel Amber?"
Clark paused. "M-M-Maybe... anyway, look-"
"Is it her that wants drugs?"
"Chloe, shut up and let me finish. This solid I'm asking you is of extreme..."
Clark lost his train of thought when he caught Rachel staring at him with a saddened expression that concealed the excitement within her.
She still couldn't believe that she was most likely going to meet her birth mother.
"Of e-extreme importance. This dealer you know... can you ask him if he knows someone called Sera?"
"Sera? Clark... I already owe him a favour. I'm not going to ask him for another. I'm already trying to pay off my debts with him."
"So? Since when have you ever wanted to get out of trouble?"
Chloe sighed in annoyance and growled at her phone. "Look, do you want my help or not?"
"Alright, alright. Sorry. Can you help us or not?"
Silence took over.
Chloe was debating on whether she could wipe her slate clean with her dealer or to avalanche more of debt.
Nowhere could she find it in herself to deny helping her brother since that's what family was for. They looked out for each other.
So Chloe agreed, much to Clark's appeasement, and shortly thereafter, Rachel's too.
"But this is the second one you owe me, 'kay?" Chloe declared sternly.
"You're a diamond. Message me when you hear back from him."
As soon as the call ended, Rachel shifted in her spot and inquired about whether his sister could help them or not. To her appeasement, Clark confirmed that Chloe agreed to contacting her dealer in order to help them.
Rachel laughed and giggled as she threw herself at her boyfriend and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck as she nuzzled her face into his necknook. When he felt her body attach to his, Clark laughed also and wrapped one arm around her back and the other to steady himself so that neither he nor Rachel fell off her bed. Before that could even happen, Rachel pulled herself away and sat on her calves.
"You're truly amazing, you know that?" Rachel sighed adoringly as her eyes glistened from the ceiling lights.
Clark giggled quietly to himself and touched Rachel's sides. Allowing this, the brunette cupped his cheeks and closed the distance between their faces in order to give him a morning kiss. As soon as they pulled away, Clark noticed a strange taste on his lips. His tongue explored the sensation and concluded that there was gloss mimicked onto his lips.
"Is that cherry lipstick?" Clark inquired with an eyebrow raised.
"You like it?"
"Seems that way. Lemme try some."
Playfully, he leaned in with his lips puckered, causing Rachel to laugh heartily as she put her hand up to his face to prevent him from smearing her lip gloss. This in turn enticed Clark to act more playfully with her by tickling her sides.
"No, Clark! Stop it! Not there!" Rachel pleaded aloud.
"No stoppin' me now, babe," he said as she let out a belly laugh.
The tickling sensation made Rachel succumb to his taking advantage of her, which in turn made her fall backwards so he was on top of her with his fingers erratically undulated rapidly.
After several more seconds of joy, Clark ceased her torment and laid on top of her with his knees and arms preventing him from laying on top of her. The pair established eye contact and stared deeply into one another's eyes, thus resulting in their hearts beating rapidly until Clark pulled away with reluctance as he simultaneously helped his girlfriend sit upright.
"How about some breakfast?" Rachel suggested.
"But aren't your parents home?" Clark fast-forwarded his inquiry to decide on whether it would be more suitable to share breakfast with her parents or elsewhere.
Rachel shook her head, causing her earring to flap about.
"Just my dad's out because of work. Plus my mom's going to do some shopping soon." Rachel explained as they began to wander out of her room.
As the two made their way downstairs together, they could hear dialogue around the corner at the bottom of the steps. The two teenagers peeked their heads from around the corner where they spied Rachel's parents acting lovingly towards one another. At first glance it wasn't anything to pay much mind to but for Clark, it created an instant hole in his heart from where he would recall peeking through the rails of his stairs at home at his parents making breakfast before the accident.
Being the perfect reader that she was, Rachel deciphered something was bothering her boyfriend. So she pulled him aside and out of sight which as essentially back up the steps by a few where she looked at him concerningly and asked him about his insecurities.
"What's the matter? Why do you look like you just saw a ghost?" Rachel cooed as she pressed her stomach against his and tucked strands of hair away from his face.
"I-It's nothing. Just a little nervous about last night." Clark fibbed  stuttering as he did.
Quizzically, she studied his expression but refused to let it slide.
"Tell me the truth, Clark. We can't have secrecy in this relationship. We either trust each other or we don't." Rachel said sternly as she folded her arms across her chest.
Clark sighed deeply and spoke with a teary, broken voice. "Alright... when I saw your mom and dad, it reminded me of when I was a kid and I would spy on my mom and dad in the kitchen together. I'm just happy that you still got a dad, I guess. That's it, I swear."
"Oh. Clark. I'm sorry."
"Let's just go have breakfast and forget about it."
Rachel agreed and walked into the kitchen. Her presence ruined the salacious moment between her parents, quickly acting in haste to pretend as if nothing was going on.
"O-Oh, hello, kids! Good morning!" Rose stammered in embarrassment.
Almost out of habit did Rachel acknowledge Rose as her mother until last night's events ran through her mind.
Now the word 'mother' had become a sour taste in Rachel's mouth, so it would take quite some time for her to adjust to the fact that Rose was not her birth mother.
There was brief hesitation from Rachel before she finally managed to find the words to greet Rose in a way she was comfortable with.
"Hi... mom."
"How did you sleep last night?"
Rachel stole a glance at her boyfriend the looked back at her adoptive mother.
"Good. How about you?" Rachel answered bluntly.
"Pretty good, all things considered. Your father wad just about to leave for work, so I thought I'd do some house work in the meantime and maybe even do some gardening..."
While they conversed, Clark lost his attention to the conversation and diverted his attention to the dinner table where he noticed things as they were from last night.
The glass top of the table Rachel broke last night was as it was with bowls and candles and sheds of glass scattered all across the carpet beneath the table. Normally, Clark wouldn't bother with a mess like that, but for some reason he wanted to clean it up himself and hopefully paint a better image of himself to his girlfriend's parents. Especially since last night and the fight and uncovering the truth about James and the other woman now known as Sera.
"Clark? Would you like porridge for breakfast?" Rose asked politely.
There was a delayed response from him before he acknowledged what she asked him and bobbed his head up and down, humming up an octave as he did.
As soon as Rose walked away, Clark leaned over and whispered to his girlfriend.
"Where's the cleaning closet?" Clark whispered.
Rachel pulled a surprised expression and studied him before pointing him in the right direction.
It made her wonder what he was up to. As soon as he opened the closet, Clark pulled out a dust pan and began to clean up the mess at the dinner table.
Rachel scoffed in amusement and shook her head as she watched him sweep up as much glass as the pan could hold before her mother sang out to him from across the rooms.
"Oh, dear, you don't need to do that." Rose insisted. "I was going to do that but I got a bit side-tracked. Let me do that."
"No, please. It's the least I can do."
When assistance was offered, Clark was quick to decline the offer. The clean up process went by until breakfast was served. Since there was no table to eat at, the kitchen island was the best option to choose.
Once he was done cleaning up the mess, Clark joined them for breakfast. Rachel was almost done with her food as was her mother, however she slowed down when he accompanied them and stood directly to Rachel's right so that they were just adjacent from her mother. Lacking the patience to allow the bowl of hot porridge to settle, Clark grabbed himself a spoon and positioned it comfortably in his dominant hand before he shovelled it into the porridge and stuck it in his mouth.
The heat radiating from the porridge overwhelmed the taste buds' in Clark's mouth, which in turn caused him to scream out loud. Shooting over to the sink, Clark hocked the hot porridge out of his mouth and immediately ran cold water for him to flood his mouth with.
"Oh Clark. You big doofus." Rachel groaned as she watched him temporarily treat the present burning sensation.
He gurgled in response while he washed his mouth out with cold water until he withdrew and panted heavily.
"Why the hell is mine still so damn hot?!" Clark wheezed dramatically.
Before they could have a chance to answer, Clark's phone rang.
Ring, ring...
Ring, ring...
"Hello? Oh hey. You what...? You're the best! I so owe you one! Okay. Thanks Chlo." Clark exclaimed gleefully.
The excitement almost made Clark blurt aloud his and Rachel's plan aloud in front of her mother but quickly caught himself and simmered down before making up an excuse to address Rachel.
"Chloe said she'll.. let me borrow her truck for-for tonight."
"Oh? What's happening tonight?" Rose inquired.
"D-uhh, f-for a surprise... for Rachel, of course!"
Rachel raised an eyebrow and leaned on one leg.
"What surprise, Clark?" Rachel asked curiously.
"Well, it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you, now, would it?" He countered.
"Touché."
Clark turned his attention back to his girlfriend's mother and explained that the pair were to embark on their day out in a few hours, so that would give himself and Rachel time to get ready to meet up with Chloe's drug dealer.
Rose was more than understanding and permitted the two sixteen year-olds to head out. They were, of course, able to take care of themselves and with Clark there to look after her daughter, Rose felt most assured about their going out.
Later that morning, Clark and Rachel journeyed to the junkyard via train - the very same way on their way to the park but in a more romantic fashion given that the young couple were alone and hopelessly in love - where his twin organised their meet. After a quick yet thorough explanation of what was happening, Rachel was very anxious to contact the dealer, and hopefully soon thereafter, her biological mother.
There was no calming Rachel internally. On the outside, she was as a millpond. With Clark by her side, Rachel felt confident enough to venture into the lion's den.
At the junkyard, Chloe was waiting for her company to arrive. In the meantime, she had been working on the truck Clark mentioned. Her attire was the same as it was for the past week: with the same odour of cigarette smoke. By the time they arrived, she had only just finished tinkering with a truck she'd repaired to the best of her ability.
"Hey, Chloe!"
The brunette tinkering with the truck leered at her company when the disgruntled expression on her face was washed away the moment she saw her brother approach her. Even with dirty hands, she didn't care when she wrapped them around him and hugged her brother.
"How are you?" Clark asked caringly.
"Still trying to get this piece of garbage to work properly," replied Chloe. "I mean, I've got almost everything done, I'm just having a bit of trouble with something; no biggie. I should get it done in a sec. You guys are early. Hey, Rachel."
"Hey, Chloe." Rachel winked back.
Clark nodded his head as he watched his sister fetch herself a clean cloth to dry her hands with. "Yeah, well, somebody was a bit too excited so I had no say in the matter, and now we're here waiting."
The sound of footsteps approaching drew the group's attention towards a man with blonde hair approaching them and admiring the truck Chloe was working on. In an instant, the three teenagers recognised him from their own separate introductions.
"Hey Price. Nice wheels," complimented the shady dealer. He spoke with a low, rough voice due to the strain he was putting on his body from the excess consumption of drugs. "Hey... aren't you that kid I sold that weed to?"
"W-Who? Me?" Clark stuttered as he slowly found himself feeling nervous being around him for no reason at all.
"You like the small dose I gave you? Figured since you two were coming out of school, I'd do you a small favour and hit you with a preview. What do you think? Interested in some more?"
"No thanks, man. I-I'm good."
"What are you doing here so early, Frank?" Chloe interceded.
The voice they were expecting to reply did not come, only to source from a man with brown hair and a brown leather jacket. His presence alone made Frank uneasy as if his presence was premature. Not only he, but also Clark, Rachel and Chloe were tense.
"It's his fucking bar mitzvah. Frank here's becoming a man. Aren't you, big guy?" The strange companion spoke gruffly.
"What's he doing here?" Chloe questioned.
The shady companion glared at Chloe and slowly approached her. His piercing stare unsettled Chloe to the point that her brother had to step between them.
"Take it easy man. We don't want trouble. We just want to talk." Clark calmly assured the shady stranger.
In spite of his passive motives, the stranger took that as an invite to stir trouble. The tense atmosphere grew tighter with every second spent in the shady stranger's company. Even being outdoors, air felt tight and hot.
While they all glared between one another, Rachel's hand connected with Clark's. Her fingers weaved around his, creating a lock that neither didn't dare loosen.
"Talk about what? Huh? Frank says you were asking about a client of his. That true?"
"Why do you give a shit?" Chloe fired back. But the moment she decided to speak up, she immediately regretted it.
"Maybe I'll show you." The dealer said, hinting at the arise in hostility on his part. "See, you three decided it would be a good idea to call your drug dealer and ask about his business. I didn't go to a fancy academy, but that doesn't strike me as smart. Maybe, it was this man's sunny disposition that confused you. But he's got a whole other side to him that I don't think you'd like. Should we let them see it?"
Frank reassured his mate that all they sought was a verbal negotiation with no intent for physical violence. Given his response, his companion got his answer and let out a stressful sigh.
"Okay. Then let's talk. I want to know, right now, why you give a shit about this woman." The dealer questioned impudently.
"None of your business." Chloe fired back sharply.
"You know what? Forget this. You two better stop asking questions otherwise there'll be serious consequences."
When the two men turned around and started to walk off, Rachel felt her temper arise. She was furious and she was about to let it all out. Even Clark struggled to prevent her from lashing out when she was so close yet so far.
"No. Tell me where she is. Now!" Rachel snarled irately.
"Rachel! Calm down, babe!" Clark whispered imploringly.
Unfortunately, he spoke only just loudly enough for both men to hear what name he said, which in turn gave them no reason to leave.
For the shady stranger, at least.
Slowly, he half-turned around and chuckled menacingly. "Wait a minute... No way."
"What the fuck is your-"
"Rachel? As in, Rachel Amber? That makes so much sense. This is James Amber's fucking kid. The fucking DA's daughter..."
"Damon..." Frank called anxiously.
A minute of silence fell upon them, intensifying things tenfold as the man drew a blade from its sheathe and pointed it at the three teenagers.
"Your dad's a real piece of shit, you know. Here's what happens next..."
They were all now visually tense and afraid now that the shady stranger now known as Damon, drew a knife on them.
"You're going to fill me in on what your daddy's up to and how he's connected to that whore everybody's asking about." Damon spoke with more excitement and displeasure in his voice.
"Damon! Calm. Down. They're just kids. We're still talking. Everything's still cool. No need to get crazy, man." Frank said, dissuading his companion.
When Damon had his attention diverted from the three teenagers, Rachel in particular, Clark found a plank of wood and lobbed it at the armed assailant. He roared, putting in a lot of effort into hitting Damon across the head with the plank of wood. When the force of the plank hit Damon, the momentum paralleled towards Frank, knocking them both onto the ground. Chloe was too stunned as things unfolded before her. While Damon recovered back to his feet, Frank was already back on his when Rachel snatched the plank of wood from Clark's hands and lunged herself at him in a fit of rage.
"You fucking little bitch!" Damon swore and grunted wildly.
At the same time he and Rachel went to attack each other, Damon grabbed the plank of wood being heaved down on him with one hand and grabbed the knife on the floor with the other. The blade punctured Rachel's left bicep came dangerously close to severing her brachial artery but due to the severity of the wound, dying of blood loss was a big scare at the moment. She looked down at the hand of her wounded arm to determine whether she was seeing double.
But Damon wasn't finished with them.
"RACHEL, NOOOO!! YOU SICK BASTARD! I'LL KILL YOU!!" Clark screamed in a fit of rage.
There was no thought process as to how Clark was going to approach Damon except by blindly swinging his fists at him. Since this was what Damon expected, he repositioned the knife and held it in an ice-pick position and lunged his arm upwards, causing the tip of the blade to only just catch the right side of Clark's face by his cheekbone and up a bit diagonally at his eyebrow, which was enough to leave a nice scar behind.
"Damon! What the fuck?!" Frank bellowed and had a turn at attacking Damon while Clark assisted his girlfriend to the truck his sister was working on.
The two men grunted violently while Frank held Damon off so that Clark, Chloe and Rachel could get into the truck she'd worked on and drive off.
Faintly, Rachel mumbled her lover's name before passing out from the pain while his sister hopped into the driver's seat and sped off.
"Rachel? Rachel! Rachel, stay with me, baby! Just stay awake! Please, for the love of God!! RACHEL, STAY WITH ME!! Oh God! No... I'm not losing you!!" Clark screamed in anguish as he did everything he could in an attempt to keep her awake, but to no avail.
An idea popped into his mind. By unbuckling his belt, Clark wrapped it just above Rachel's injury and tightened it as much as he could to tourniquet the blood loss as best he could. Blood stained the sleeve of her jacket - the same jacket she wore at the Firewalk festival - as well as the blanket on top of the seats.
Chloe throttled the accelerator hard and sped off in haste for the hospital, leaving Frank to deal with his psychopath of a friend.
"How is she?!" Chloe yelled amidst the rumbling of the car engine.
"How the fuck should I know?! She's dying! Hurry up!!" Clark screamed hysterically. Hot tears ran down his cheeks as he began to notice Rachel's skin pale.
By a stroke of luck, there was not an ounce of traffic in their path to the hospital. By the time they reached said hospital, Clark used much of his strength and picked Rachel off her feet and carried her inside the hospital while Chloe helped open the doors for him on their way in.
An on-duty nurse was present to witness the distress as she had Clark lie Rachel down on a hospital bed before the nurse and a co-worker of hers came along and rushed Rachel off to the emergency room, leaving Clark to wail over the angst he was going through. With his sister by his side, Chloe did everything she could to comfort her brother in his time of need.
Given that they both shared a tact relationship, that point in time would make up for the three years spent wallowing over their difficulties. But Chloe never hated her brother for no reason. She only hated him because of how much he reminded her of their father. She hated him because she knew that even in her lucid dreams where she would bizarrely connect with the phantom of their father, but also that she deeply missed the happiness they all shared before it was abruptly severed.
Another nurse approached Clark where he paced around the room and called him off to get treated for his wound. He complied and followed the nurse to another emergency room where he would be treated for the cut on his face.
In the meantime, Chloe waited outside on a chair, praying that both her brother and Rachel would be alright.

Diminishing Karen's importance in Frank's life because he also saved Madani is utterly ridiculous. Frank's reactions in those two scenes are not the same.
