The 'normative' years of Edward III witnessed the establishment of sodomy as the ultimate statement of political unfitness. Inheriting this aspect of gendered monarchy, among many others, Richard II was made to fit into an interpretative scheme that had been created over the course of many decades. Many of the charges from the Lancastrian period repeat nearly word for word the accusations familiar to us from the 1330s and onward. A fifteenth-century Lincolnshire chronicle, for instance, notes that, after being crowned king, Richard 'immediately, after the manner of Roboam, despising the counsel of the wise, attended to the suggestions of the young. Infatuated by their persuasions he oppressed his native subjects.' [...] Similarly, Adam of Usk writes in his Chronicle that 'this Richard, with his callow counsellors [consilium iuuenum], should more correctly be compared to Roboam … who, because he followed the counsel of youths, lost the kingdom of Israel'. The Kirkstall writer raises the spectre of Edward II when (writing after Richard's deposition) he reports the opinion of 'learned men' that Richard, like Edward of Carnarvon, had spurned the counsel of the greater dukes and lords in 1386, relying instead on the wishes and advice of the young lords and of others of less power and influence.' [...] Like these examples drawn from the Lancastrian propaganda of the early 1400s, the queering of the king in the 1380s and 1390s was accomplished through the invocation of certain stock rhetorical figures and characters - like Roboam, for instance, or like the generic type of the excessively passive young man, or the tyrannically perverse old man. Richard himself assisted in the drawing of his reputation as a deviant by stubbornly invoking the memory of the deviant Edward II: in 1383 the king arranged for his great-grandfather's anniversary to be celebrated each year at Gloucester Abbey, and beginning in 1385 he began to press for Edward's canonization - a course he continued to pursue, unsuccessfully, throughout the 1390s. Unlike Edward Ill's calculated restoration of Edward II's moral reputation, Richard's more vigorous attentions toward his ancestor were politically disastrous insofar as they led more or less directly to the revival of the cult of Thomas of Lancaster, who had been murdered and his inheritance seized by Edward II in 1322. No one in this period actually charged Richard with sodomy. But no one needed to; the cultural discourse of sexual misrule from the 1330s onward was so profound as to serve as a kind of code with which to speak about unnatural politics, and its punishment, while preserving the status of sodomy as the 'unmentionable' sin.

David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; and Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; and Asa begat Josaphat. And Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; and Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; and Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias; and Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon. (Matthew 1:6-11)
In the fourth book of Kings we read, that Ochozias was the son of Joram. On his death, Josabeth, sister of Ochozias and daughter of Joram, took Joash, her brother’s son, and preserved him from the slaughter of the royal seed by Athalias. To Joash succeeded his son Amasias; after him his son Azarias, who is called Ozias; after him his son Joatham. Thus you see according to historical truth there were three intervening kings, who are omitted by the Evangelist. Joram, moreover, begot not Ozias, but Ochozias, and the rest as we have related. But because it was the purpose of the Evangelist to make each of the three periods consist of fourteen generations, and because Joram had connected himself with Jezebel’s most impious race, therefore his posterity to the third generation is omitted in tracing the lineage of the holy birth. Otherwise, we may consider the first Jeconias to be the same as Joakim, and the second to be the son not the father, the one being spelt with k and m, the second by ch and n. This distinction has been confounded both by Greeks and Latins, by the fault of writers and the lapse of time.
Jerome
That there were two kings of the name of Joakim, is clear from the Book of Kings. And Joakim slept with his fathers, and Joachin his son reigned, in his stead. (2 Kings 24:6.) This son is the same whom Jeremiah calls Jeconias. And rightly did St. Matthew purpose to differ from the Prophet, because he sought to shew therein the great abundance of the Lord’s mercies. For the Lord did not seek among men nobility of race, but suitably chose to be born of captives and of sinners, as He came to preach remission of sin to the captives. The Evangelist therefore did not conceal either of these; but rather shewed them both, inasmuch as both were called Jeconias.
Ambrose
But the order in the Book of Kings (2 Kings 23.) is different, thus namely; Josias begot Eliakim, afterwards called Joakim; Joakim begot Jechonias. But Joakim is not reckoned among the Kings in the genealogy, because God’s people had not set him on the throne, but Pharaoh by his might. For if it were just that only for their intermixture with the race of Ahab, three kings should be shut out of the number in the genealogy, was it not just that Joakim should be likewise shut out, whom Pharaoh had set up as king by hostile force? And thus Jechonias, who is the son of Joakim, and the grandson of Josiah, is reckoned among the kings as the son of Josiah, in place of his father who is omitted.
Pseudo-Chrysostom

hey, reading your answer made me think that maybe none of the characters were actually truly free. and maybe that was some of the things s4 was trying to say as well. bernard kept picking human's side, haroles kept trying to make things beautiful even in revenge, stubbs was boyguard to the end (even with frankie and caleb that he barlely knew) and maeve kept reaching for something that she wasn't able to have (she knew that and still wanted, and everyone could see that each time she came back she more exausted than before). the last loop it's about getting concious, knowing that you have code that drives you, it's about breaking it, only becoming new people they will be able to survive
Yes, that's what I think. More exactly, I don't think they weren't free, conscious or that they were actually controlled, but I think that in the end, even the hosts repeated theirs actions, which was what Ford reproached to humanity : they couldn't change. Season 3 was about the best of the hosts which can also be found in humanity, and season 4 is about the worst of humanity which can also be found in the hosts. In this season 4, we saw them living their loop again, but this time was the drop of water which overflows the vase and this umpteenth cycle cause the extinction of both kinds.
-Let's start with William, because he's the incarnation of the human who can't progress because he refuses to questionning himself and his actions, prefering telling stories to himself instead of accepting that he's not the good guy of the story. Then, he can only destroy and destroy, trapped in a cycle of violence, which infects his host version too.
-Caleb, who at the opposite is described as a human with free will, can enjoy only seven years of real freedom, before being privated of his freedom again. Even him finished trapped in a loop, with his body which can't survive beyond three days, and suceeding to reunite with his daughter and giving her a chance to say him goodbye properly was his way to escape from this loop.
-The inversion of the roles between the hosts and the humans...doesn't change anything : it's still the same sick game, the cycle of violence goes on, and it's just another loop.
-Bernard, who was a version of Arnold created by Dolores in order to survive, died despite of that like Arnold : sacrifying himself for the opposite kind of his (hosts for Arnold, humans for Bernard) and to find his son in a possible afterlife. Except that Bernard suceeded when Arnold failed.
-Halores is in the same position in her world that Charlotte Hale when she ruled on Westworld. Yes, they're not the same, Halores being a continuation of Dolores and not of Charlotte Hale, but this fact participates to the feeling of dejà-vu.
-Clementine, like I said in my last answer, keeps being used as a pawn and never reach conciousness. I'm not going to elaborate again.
-Maeve died a lot in the park, died to allow her daughter to read the Sublime, has been brought back by Serac, has been killed by Sato, has been brought back by Serac, was desactived during her fight against Dolores, has been brought back by Serac, killed herself to bury host! William with her and giving a chance to Caleb to survive (she failed), has been brought back by Frankie, has been killed by host! William (2). Each time, Maeve has been broght back as a weapon to serve other interest, when all she wants is to join her daughter in the Sublime, and each time, she can't reach the Sublime because she wants to do the right thing. It's even more tragic now that we know that one year in the real world is lile 10000 years in the Sublime, so for Maeve's daughter, 30000 years happened since the last time she have seen Maeve : Maeve is just a little part of her life, when she's litterally Maeve's heart.
-Dolores fought again and again in order to destroy the stories in which they were imprisoned, fighting first Delos, then Roboam, only for that another version of herself imprisoned again people in stories, and worst, stories of her own creation. Dolores follows a cycle too : in the seasons 1 and 3, we see the best sides of her personnality, and in the seasons 2 and 4, the worst : Wyatt and Charlores. By this way, all her work in order to break free from the stories is erased by...herself. So, the prisons she wanted to destroy were illusions, the real jail coming from herself, thing that she actually said in the season 1 finale, and that's the same for everyone. That's the reason why Charlores killed herself : she realized that, and so she left her loop by her own way.
And so, at the end of the season, she/Christina understood how to truly free everyone, and honnestly I'm not completely sure of how she's going to make it. But like you said, the finale season will be about changing their code, as humans as hosts, in order to reach the world where all could be truly free that OG Dolores spoke about before dying at the end of season 3.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it helped me a lot to formulate my opinion on this subject.

New Fiction 2022 - July
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "1 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
More begetting children and all their names before coming back around to more of David's reign. So many chapters are just appendices to previous events.
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "2 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
Two Paralipomenon, say that five times fast. So now it's on to Solomon and his riches (again), Roboam talking about how his little finger is bigger than his dad's dick, and Jeroboam getting whipped with scorpions all the way to the fall of Jerusalem. It's basically another look at what we saw in Kings.
Dracula Daily - "July" by Bram Stoker & ed. Matt Kirkland (1897, 2021)
Dracula’s finally outta that musty old castle, though leaving Jonathan in the lurch is quite the cliffhanger. And that poor, poor captain.
Bad Hare Day by R.L. Stine (1996)
A mish-mash of various ideas from earlier books. It has the vibe of Haunted Mask and stealing secrets from weird adults, the experimenting with illicit stuff from Monster Blood, animal transformations from various books, bratty younger sister who bullies the protagonist, a Slappy-like snarky villainous character. It’s too much of a remix and more slapstick than horror.
Egg Monsters from Mars by R.L. Stine (1996)
A decent creature story, but the latter half kind of sags with the protagonist spending a lot of time just trapped in a freezer and struggling to stay warm. The villain is genuinely frightening but also one-dimensional and doesn't really explain his motivation well. And there's not enough of the egg monsters. It's close to a top tier book but just sputters too much along the way.
"Bathtub Mermaid" by Edith Zimmerman (2022)
Someone has to hear about the doll thief.
"its time for… the dark cabinet" by itstimeforcomics-blog (2015)
When you least suspect it.
Lost Highway dir. David Lynch (1997)
One can see the continuation of a theme in Lynch’s work since Blue Velvet. Does he want us see the darkness or the light?
Mad God dir. Phil Tippett (2022)
If the journey ends for you, it doesn’t mean it’s the end.
Mr. Malcolm's List dir. Emma Holly Jones (2022)
British accents always class up the cruelty.
Thor: Love and Thunder dir. Taika Waititi (2022)
Whoof, what a drop from Ragnarok.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers dir. Akiva Schaffer (2022)
A reflection of a reflection that is unaware of what it sees.
Where the Crawdads Sing dir. Olivia Newman (2022)
Pump up the volume on the mystery, tone down the romance.
Nope dir. Jordan Peele (2022)
The most fun take on Jaws since the original. A real hoot and also really fucked up at times. An understanding of horror by someone who continues to bring cool ideas to movies.
Vengeance dir. B. J. Novak (2022)
You get awful close but you shouldn’t have been the face of it. Now we ask, what did we learn?
Fear Street Part One: 1994 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Really going for it right out of the gate. I’m in. Now I need to know if I should go back and read Fear Street after reading this bunch of Goosebumps books.
Fear Street Part Two: 1978 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Even the devil craves a kind word.
Fear Street Part Three: 1666 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Legacy is mankind’s ruin.
Goosebumps - "Bad Hare Day" (1996)
Erf, the book was rough, and the episode doesn’t do itself any favors by leaning into the snarky villain.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (1988-1990)
A nostalgia bomb like every one of these 90s cartoons tends to be, though the tropes eventually wear thin when watching it all in one go. Monterey Jack may be what crystallized my appreciation of cheese.
Better Call Saul - Season 5 (2020)
This show... it doesn’t build the way Breaking Bad builds. It’s more of a roller coaster with the sense of hitting the same drop a few too many times. This season is a bookmark in place while you wait for the extra season that should have been season five.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021-2022)
I feel bad for the actors and crew of this ostensibly standalone TV show. Your makers should have had the fortitude to stick the vision.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Better, but only because it is exactly what I remember. It’s comfortable, like an old pair of socks.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
