I attempted to use a sewing machine for the first time since I was 12 today! I'm not very good at sewing in straight lines but hopefully practice will help with that (I've just been sewing bits of scrap fabric together to get used to it)
It turns out that having trouble with proprioception makes it quite tricky to use a foot pedal - I can't really tell what my feet are doing so it's hard to control the speed

So drawing my knockoff Nina Cortex character with a knockoff Coco Bandicoot character.
The poses and line work are all wrong, I need more practice. Rather than screwing up the drawing I decided to use it for a quick colour test.
The results… well…
Not great!
As for the Coco Bandicoot knock she’s an anthro griffin but with puffin and Scottish wildcat in place of the eagle and lion. Hopefully that’s okay to do?
I still don’t have a name ether of them yet, most annoying really.

Good morning gang! I’m still sick, and still isolating with the kids. My plan for today is to carry on with the web weavings and visit inboxes like a li’l positivity fairy. I’m also going to clean out my followers again. Might purge the dustiest asks from my inbox too.

considering for a moment that my final project is a portrait, not a self-portrait, and the rubric does not explicitly state it has to be drawn from direct observation, where the rubrics for my other projects in the course do state they must be drawn from direct observation... so I may draw shade for my final project, idk

28-Ton, 1.2-Megawatt Tidal Kite Is Now Exporting Power To The Grid
— By Loz Blain | February 11, 2024 | NewAtlas.Com
Tumblr media
The 39-Foot Wingspan of the Dragon 12, Being Towed Out for Sub-Surface Deployment. Minesto
Minesto's fully operational Dragon 12 looks like some sort of futuristic military drone – but it behaves remarkably like a kite underwater. It uses lift generated by tidal flows to fly patterns faster than the currents, harvesting renewable energy.
Solar energy is the bedrock of most renewable energy grid plans – but lunar energy is even more predictable, and a number of different companies are working to commercialize energy generated from the regular inflows and outflows of the tides.
One we've completely missed is Minesto, which is taking a very different and remarkably dynamic approach compared to most. Where devices like Orbital's O2 tidal turbine more or less just sit there in the water harvesting energy from tidal currents, Minesto's Dragon series are anchored to the sea bed, and fly around like kites, treating the currents like wind.
youtube
Minesto's Deep Green Technology – Unlocking Renewable Baseload Power
Just as land-based wind energy kites fly in figure 8 patterns to accelerate themselves faster than the wind, so does the Dragon underwater. This, says Minesto, lets the Dragon pull more energy from a given tidal current than other designs – and it also changes the economic equations for relevant sites, making slower tidal flows worth exploiting.
These are by no means small kites – the Dragon 12 needs to be disassembled to fit in a shipping container. It rocks a monster 12-meter (39-ft) wingspan, and weighs no less than 28 tons. But compared to other offshore power options like wind turbines, it's an absolute minnow, and extremely easy to install using a single smallish boat and a sea bed tether.
As with any renewable energy project, the key figure here is LCoE (levelized cost of energy) – so what's it gonna cost? Well, back in 2017, Minesto projected about US$108/MWh once its first hundred megawatts of capacity are installed – with costs falling thereafter as low as $54/MWh.
Tumblr media
The Minesto Team Poses with the 1.2 Megawatt Dragon 12. Minesto
For an unfair comparison, Orbital has claimed it's hoping for an LCoE less than $253/MWh for its very first O2 tidal turbine, a figure that'll drop with scale, and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects in 2022 had an estimated average LCoE around $89/MWh in 2022, according to the US DoE.
The Dragon 12, like other tidal devices, will be more effective in some places than others – and Denmark's Faroe Islands, an archipelago in the chilly North Atlantic between Scotland and Iceland, offer ideal conditions. Home to about 55,000 people and more than a million Puffins, the Faroe Islands funnel tidal currents through a number of slim channels. This accelerates the water significantly, and thus increases the energy that devices like the Dragon 12 can harvest.
Tumblr media
The Narrow Channels Between the Faroe Islands Accelerate Tidal Flows, Creating an Ideal Location For Tidal Energy Projects. Minesto
That's where the first Dragon has been deployed, and on Friday, it was connected to the local power grid to begin delivering energy.
"This is a big day for Minesto," said Dr Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto, in a press release. "We have reached the most significant milestone in the history of the company by producing electricity to the grid with our mega-watt scale powerplant. We are both proud and happy and more than ever look forward to the journey ahead ... The competitiveness of the Dragon 12 is straight to the point; it's powerful, cost-effective and feeds predictable electricity to the grid."

I AM GOING TO SEE THE PUFFINS
It's actually happening
In just a few weeks I will be on a remote island with researchers surrounded by puffins coming home to roost!! AFGSSJDHDKDKSK I am so excited I am almost at risk of going full Crowley!!
For those wondering what the hell this has to do with Good Omens:
Next chapter of DFAFM will be up on Wednesday, and the final chapter has already been written, so I'll finally be done and can return to TIAL&INGO (I have left them curled up in that lighthouse for far longer than I intended to).
Thank you to all my readers for their patience and understanding during the last few weeks, and an extra special thanks to Neil for replying to my ask at just the right time, he is ever a lighthouse in the darkness to me.

Darling, there's a part of me I'm afraid will always be Trapped within an abstract from a moment of my life The weeds up through the concrete The traffic picking up speed All my love and terror balanced there between those eyes
See how it shines. See how it shines.
~
It's done!
Been working on this since the last chapter of "There is a Light & it Never Goes Out" was posted by @phoen1xr0se - the latter part of the chapter was so striking and I immediately had to do arts about it. It's such a lovely heartfelt story that feels so authentic and is such a fascinating approach to Aziraphale and Crowley. I love it.
Our two lads sit on either side of a door, discussing puffins. Because puffins are great. <3

Tried to experiment with more painterly brushes and had a ton of fun! I gotta get some better ones though, as the watercolour brushes included with CSP are pretty low res so it ends up quite choppy. I do like the clip mask effect as well, to make a sort of negative space frame I can paint behind. =)

my gameplay rules
I constantly allude to the existence of gameplay rules, but I've never outright made a dedicated post about them... so here it is! I'll make a dedicated video for this at some point, but enjoy this lovely wall of text <3.
link to the dedicated video: here!
general gameplay style
I'm quite fast and loose with my gameplay. I'm primarily wants-based, but sometimes I want sims to do certain things so I'll just make it happen. If a sims doesn't roll a want to do certain things, however, then I won't make them do it (i.e going to college). If they roll the want to skip work, sometimes I'll let them do it 'cause it brings chaos.
So, basically, if anything sounds fun, I'll probably do it. I find it hard to stick to rules that are too strict, so most of mine are general rules of thumb. If I ever find myself getting bored, I rarely ever blame the game. The game is pretty kooky, so if nothing crazy is happening, it means I'm simply not allowing anything to happen.
I play with 7 day rounds! Using this mod that makes seasons 7 days long, I just play the whole week. Plus, any holidays I may want my sims to celebrate will be on the Sunday!
🧓 aging and death
Marticore has a great video on Sims 2's aging system, so I pretty much abide by that. Aging sims up when they receive that one day until their birthday notification. I use the Nice Lifespan mod, which adds a bunch of days and makes things make a bit more sense. I also edited the mod to age them up at midnight (because 6pm aging makes no sense).
Because my lifespan is so much longer, I recently started playing with slower skilling all-around. Using the 6-hr version of this mod.
Also, a higher a witch/warlock's alignment is, the longer they live (with the help of BO's slow aging controller). That's why Olive is still very much alive in my game, she's max alignment so she ages once a week.
When a sim is nearing death, I keep in mind inheritance. I use SimNopke's Inventory Inheritance to give away any stray items to their next of kin. If the sims owns a house, then the ownership goes to the child with the highest relationship. If the sims doesn't have any kids, then it goes to their spouse. If they aren't married, it goes to a very close friend. If they don't meet any of those requirements (bro how?!), then I sell the house and give the money to the orphanage.
I also really like playing with trans sims! I'm nonbinary myself so I need to project, obviously <3. So I roll a 5% chance of transing their gender... as a little treat. I'm still in the process of figuring out this mod, that'll let me have the memory of transitioning.
Death is also final in my game (with some extreme caveats). So, sims can't get resurrected unless the sim resurrecting is lvl 10 paranormal, and max witch alignment. And, anyone who's besties with tha sim gets to resurrect a sim of their choice. It's sort of a punishment for letting a sim die.
🌠 aspiration and personality
Sophie the Puffin has an absolutely killer aspiration calculator. I calculate everyone's secondary aspiration, and usually set them. Though, this can change depending on how I'm feeling. If I feel like it doesn't suit them, then I simply just won't set it.
I use the aspiration calculator to age up sims from child to teen as well! Using this interest age mod, it allow child sims to have more varied interests. I kinda stick to their secondary aspirations, because I can't be bothered to change it.
💼 career, education, and finances
I tried using Edukashun is Gud and… it just doesn’t make sense that I can’t be a Lvl 10 Criminal because I don’t have a degree. Like, that’s so silly. So I use Doctors Need Degrees that’s way more detailed.
Unless a sim wants to go to college, I won’t make them go. They need to roll the want on their birthday (or the day before). Once they do roll that want, I note down the day they moved out and play the family as normal. I play a whole round before I move the sims back in, to simulate time passing while they were in college. College is free, because you should never pay for education, but accommodation isn’t so sims will probably need to take out loans (4% interest rate) to pay for bills and the like. If my sims don’t want to pass the year, they won’t (but if they roll a fear of failure, they can pass). I just play it by ear.
Of course, semester changes is used… I’m not a lunatic.
No 20k handouts is an absolute godsend, so that’s an absolute must for me. Usually, graduates move out into apartments, but with the Tenancy and Landlord mod by Monique, I can have them rent out a house. This is what I’ve currently been doing with my La Fiesta Tech grads.
Child support is also a thing! It’s super handy, and also adds some challenge to managing finances.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 family
Romance sims have a 35% of giving their child up for adoption (or giving their child to their partner). They don’t wanna get bogged down with responsibilities! Similarly, they can’t try for baby (unless secondary family). Unless they roll a fear for having a baby, I won’t put them on birth control. And I’ll only take them off of birth control when they roll a want to have a child. If they roll this fear while pregnant, I terminate the pregnancy (1st trimester only).
I also nabbed this rule from a reddit thread:
Tumblr media
Though, I’ll still give the child away, family sim or not. I think it’s pretty realistic to feel in over your head with something as major as a child.
Getting your child taken away is also harder in my game, because I play with kids and pets unattended. You actively need to be evil for your kid to be taken away.
Aliens can impregnate/be impregnated regardless of the situation. They’re aliens! Don’t think about it!
I don’t have a hard and fast rule for number of children permitted (how dystopian), but I have a general rule of thumb. A romance/pleasure sim won’t want to have 3 kids probably, so 1 or 2 is alright.
No super fertility because I love my life! And I play with a quads mod, so I truly do not need it.
And if a gay/infertile couple want a genetic child, they need to either be lvl 10 of the science career (or be best friends with someone who is).
💞 romance
ACR my beloved <3. And romantic standards! I find ACR makes everyone horny freaks, so having romantic standards adds some challenge. Plus, it makes it much harder to just force a relationship. I don’t play with teen/adult romance — nor do I play with teen pregnancy. There’s no rush to have kids! They have the rest of their lives.
✦•······················•✦•······················•✦
Anyway hopefully this adds some context to what I’m thinking of when I play the game. Maybe you’ll adopt some of these rules too? Maybe I’ll add some more? I’ll be sure to update when I do!

Want to play old flash games and animations? Here are a few ways.
Note: links are underlined, all links are to webpages except for the two purple links where noted. These link to directly to file downloads. This isn't an install guide, just a list of resources and the occasional tip. Please use caution. I cannot stress this enough. Flash was killed as it had a lot of security issues and a lot of work to fix. Some of these solutions are still just as dangerous as ever.
TLDR Quick Links: Red links are not secure. Use caution.
Ruffle // Flashplayer Executable (needed to run most of the red or orange things) // Waterfox Classic // Pale Moon // Basilisk* // Danknet Explorer // Standalone Player // Newgrounds Player // Puffin Browser // Windows 7 ISO (for flash security, see below, but also be careful. ISO's are dangerous) // BlueMaxima's Flashpoint (actually has a player which I missed. See my reblog.)
Ruffle
Ruffle is a flash emulator that seeks to run flash with higher security than old flash player. This is much safer than the other ways listed below but for now it doesn't have an amazing range. Basically nothing developed in 2010s is certain to run and much of it doesn't work. But it's a cool project so if you can consider donating to them as that can seriously help speed the development along. This is the only Linux solution.
Classic Browsers
There are a few browsers that still support the flash plugin. Since these use the original flash program, they are far less secure than before so please know the risks. Flash was a poorly-sandboxed monstrosity and that has not changed in the slightest.
First, you'll need to download and install flash player: (note: these links will start downloading immediately) Win Mac
(courtesy of Gaia Online. I'm sure they're also archived somewhere.)
Waterfox Classic
Waterfox is a really good browser that I use on some of my computers. It has a really clean UI. Classic, however is similar to the two below. It is also the only apple friendly option (y'all have gotta stop buying apple products I swear to god you're killing indie devs). Do not try to update Waterfox classic as that will remove flash support.
Pale Moon / Basilisk
These two are more or less the same and are developed by the same team(Basilisk is now developed by a different team). They are forked from an old Firefox repository and are built up to work with modern systems. There are differences between them but those aren't really relevant. Both have flash support. In cases where Waterfox classic hasn't worked, these browsers have worked (like for me).
Update: Pale Moon, as I have recently discovered, has a flash sandboxing tool that you can install that was apparently integrated into the browser. You can still use the tool, but they state it isn't necessary. This means that flash should be a lot more secure than it used to be! Pale Moon is perhaps the best option, though note that it still depends on the original flash application meaning that while running flash in Pale Moon is secure other applications could still take advantage of the flash software.
*basilisk is no longer being developed so no idea how long it will last.Basilisk is now being maintained by a different team but as I understand no major features have been added.
Danknet Explorer
Those of you who follow me have heard me bring this up a few times now. I'm working on a clone of the Pale Moon browser that revives old IE6/7 aesthetic and features. Of course, as a result of being a Pale Moon clone, using their exact code base, DNE runs flash also! So, really, this is the best browser to play flash on >.> I'm want the browser to bolster the indie web community so if you are a webmaster or a frequenter of the indie web, suggest a feature through this google form or do so as an issue on the github repository and I'll try to make it happen!
Honorable Mention: Puffin Browser
Puffin is a really safe solution to flash. As far as I understand it they basically play the flash animation/game on their servers and return the results to you. This makes it safer for you as none of the flash stuff is ever handled on your computer. So why did I only give this an honorable mention? I haven't used it myself so I can't confirm anything about it really and I've heard that this is only available through a subscription service. There may also be other limitations. I don't know what's true but I wanted to give it a mention. I just don't know enough about it so you will have to look into that yourself. It felt wrong to not include it though.
Standalone Players
Flash Standalone Player
Flash had a standalone player mostly for debugging. If you download the SWF file of a game you can open it with the standalone player. I think you need the flash program installed so see above. Keep in mind this is also original flash player so it is just as unsafe as with the classic Browsers. Use at your own risk.
Newgrounds Player
Another standalone player, this one is a little nicer. Probably recommend it more than the official flash one. No certainty on how sandboxed it is.
Final Note
For future proofing, consider downloading and setting up a Windows 7 virtual box and running through that. Action/timing flash games will suffer a lot but at least many games will be playable via the above methods. If you want to get around action/timing game issues consider dual booting an old system or getting an garbage laptop that runs an old windows version. Here's a Windows 7 iso from internet archive.
Windows 7 also has security issues since it's past end of life so use cautiously. Safest bet is just to have it on a completely different system.
All you have to do now is find things to play
Feel free to reblog with anything I've missed

Sims 2 Aspiration Calculators
I wanted to know how the different aspiration calculators out there compared to each other,
I decided to find the available aspiration calculators I know of and calculate what 1st and 2nd aspirations the sims from Pleasantview would have according to the calculators.
I choose the Pleasantview premades since most people know of and have opinions about the premades’ personalities. So it would be easy for people to decide which calculator they think fits their idea of the premades the most.
Toddlers and children can’t have any other aspiration except Grow Up but I decided to just go ahead and calculate them anyway for the sake of it.
———————————————-
@pleasantsims Secondary Aspiration Calculator (No Grilled Cheese Version)
Calculates only interests
Counts high interest in sci-fi as a Pleasure aspiration trait instead of Knowledge aspiration trait
———————————————-
@simgigglegirl’s Aspiration Sheet
Calculates interests + personality + zodiac sign + one true hobby
Calculates 3t2 traits from the Traits Project
Includes the Grilled Cheese aspiration
———————————————-
@belladovah’s Aspiration Calculator
Calculates interests + personality
Has a separate calculator for YA/teen sims, where high interest in school counts to Knowledge aspiration instead of Family aspiration
Allows negative aspiration scores
———————————————-
Sophie the puffin’s Aspiration Calculator
Calculates interests + personality
Divides every aspiration into 2 subcategories with descriptions for each subcategory
Renders some aspirations impossible if certain interests & personality points are too low/too high
Suggests fitting LTW’s for every subcategory
———————————————-
@delijume-sims' Aspiration Calculator
Calculates interests + personality
Divides every aspiration into 2 subcategories (inspired by Sophie the puffin’s calculator)
Also calculates OTH, favorite music etc.
———————————————-
@aorticsims Aspiration Calculator
Calculates interests + personality + OTH + zodiac sign
Includes creativity and power aspiration (accomodates a mod for TS4)
Sims that roll the same thing for 1st & 2nd aspiration will only get a primary aspiration

Artwork made by @an-artist-place-for-extra-art
This is a collaborative project between me and rose herself, we both came up with ideas for it and his design, me and a few other friends on discord came up with some basic story and ideas.
Tumblr media
His full name is Dirus Harold Hog or rather that became his name, he is a 28 year old human male formally just known as Harold Puffins. Who went to collage studying in Screenwriting and Botany, gaining himself a Masters Degree in Botany and a Bachelors Degree in Screenwriting during his study.
He was one of the writers who helped make the script for the first Sonic The Hedgehog Movie.
Harold was a rather intelligent man who loved what he did and what he could do, however one faithful day while on a trip to Japan he slipped on a banana peel he himself dropped due to his love of the fruit he ate alot of it.
Not knowing that his favorite food would be his own downfall, he found himself ran over by ironically enough a Sonic themed train, this event would change his life forever.
Leading to an Isekai event where he woke up inside the Sonic world, however it erased his name and any memory of his existence from any records from our world.
Once in the Sonic world however, a shift in his personality happened leading to the once normal man becoming something entirely new despite still being quite smart, he started to only use "M" when saying anything that referred to "I" and if he does use the word "I" it's when he's talking about Amy.
And despite being a "Seemingly" normal human man, he dresses in a bizarre manner and death seems to follow him, even if any death that happens around him is not caused by him, this dosen't stop him from becoming friends with Charmy The Bee though after meeting him.
Everyone else though is very weary around him thinking he is some sort of evil entity and yet he remains unaware of this.
