The Grim Aurora of Trifecta - Zine Preview

Finally, I get to share this!

As of last year, I was selected to be part of a Sam and Max fanzine along with other artists, writers, and creators to create this amazing project. I had some obstacles with my part of the zine, but I’m happy to see the final product of my fanfic and everyone else’s amazing work. 

For now, here is the preview of the story, a little promotional poster, and a small blurb of what’s to come:

When the Commissioner assigns Sam and Max on a peculiar case with fairytale-like proportions that involve finding his nephew, the Freelance Police may get more than what they bargained for when Max tampers with the evidence. Joined by their hero, Flint Paper, the three must work together to save lives, defeat the bad guys, and feast on treats all within 2,500 words of appropriate mayhem!

“Stealing Your Heart” is a PG-13 Shukita zine containing all-new fanfic and fanart from a variety of writers and artists.

General Questions:

-          Who is running this?

The zine is run by Lana (@tearsofahime) and March (@ouji-draws)!

What is Shukita?

Shukita is the ship name for P5 Protagonist/Yusuke. The “shu” part comes from the Japanese word for protagonist (“Shujinkou.”).

What are you looking for in the theme?

The theme is “Dates” So the zine will feature the boys going on dates, like to the rowboat or planetarium or to the movies or going to go get dinner or going to a couple’s painting class. The date possibilities are endless so it’s encouraged that accepted applicants get creative with sending these boys on cute dates!

SCHEDULE:

August 18th 12:00 AM PST – September 1st 11:59 PM PST: Applications are open

September 8th: Acceptance/Rejection emails are sent out

September 22nd: First check-in. Note: Although no WIPS would be due yet, anyone who does not respond in 48 hours will be removed from the zine.

October 6th: Second check-in. WIPs are due. This includes Sketches/thumbnails/outlines/ideas, etc. Anyone who doesn’t respond in 48 hours is taken off the zine.

October 20th: Final pieces are due. Preorders will open.

November 17th: Preorders will close.

November 18th-December 16th: Predicted printing period and zines are shipped out.

Applicant Questions:

How many people will be getting in?

We will be accepting 6 writers and 20 artists.

Will I be judged based on the content of my works/portfolio?

Not Necessarily, although it would be helpful if you have a couple pieces in your portfolio that do feature Akira and Yusuke. Also on a more personal note, it’d be advisable to not apply if you actively ship and/or create content for adult/minor stuff like Shido/Goro, Kamoshida/Ann, Madarame/Yusuke, etc. If you get in and one of the mods finds out about it, you will be dropped from the zine. This is a personal decision as the mods don’t want to be associated with such content.

Aside from that:

Artists: Looking for general composition, skill, use of color,  how well your work will fit with the theme, how it looks alongside the works of other submitters, how it fits into the vision of the zine. Although it would be helpful if you do have works featuring Akira and Yusuke so we can see how you have drawn them, but it’s not entirely necessary.

Writers: it would be helpful to include at least one work that has Akira and Yusuke in it to see how their characterization and the way you write their dynamic would fit with the general theme and content of the zine and alongside other writers and artists.

What should be included in my portfolio?

For artists: Please curate your portfolio with what you feel are your strongest works and submit them with a link to an album, like a public facebook link or (and this is more preferred) an imgur album. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT WHAT YOU LINK US HAS *ONLY* ART. We don’t have time to sift through irrelevant text and video posts just to find art.

For writers: Please select three works you feel are your strongest works and submit the links in the digital application form.

Can I submit traditional art to the zine?

Yes, as long as you can scan it in at 300 dpi.

How will applicants be chosen?

Currently it’s just Lana and March looking through the applications but we’re looking for how works will fit with the style and theme of the zine and with the works of other artists on the page.

Zine Info:

General Information:

Color printed, Perfect bound, 8.5”x11” on book zine paper. Total sheet count will be about (if not exactly) 40 sheets, meaning that the zine will have 80 pages.

There will be a physical zine and a PDF file available on during the preorder period as well for those who wish to order this digitally. If Volume 1 is successful and we start printing Volume 2, we will re-open hard copy preorders for Volume 1 as part of a package deal with Volume 2.

All participants, including merch, will get a zine and merch bundle as part of the compensation for participation. EVERYONE will receive an equal share of the money.

The zine is for-profit; Paypal will be the most likely method of payment. (Lana lives in Canada and most participants will likely be from the United States so Bank transfers fees may get astronomical if it’s from her end). If you are unable to be paid but would like to participate anyway, you will be able to receive the zine even if you can’t receive the money. In that event, the money will be split among the rest of the participants.

Writing info

3000 word minimum and 4500 word maximum. The font is 11pt Times New Roman so it will likely be 7 pages maximum on our page size for dialogue-heavy works (5 pages PREFERRED though).

Art info

Comics, 1-page art, and spreads are all good!

Please hold off on posting full works until the mods tell you it’s okay to. When posting previews, please remember to link back to the zine blog to spread awareness.

You can only post full works in the zine discord server until the zine production period is over.
