Post-Cell saga adventure show with 17, 18, and Krillin as protagonists, mostly to get that sibling dynamic with Krillin as the straight man, and also to develop the romance between 18 and Krillin more. Bonus points for actually addressing 16's death and how it affected the twins, who were essentially his family.
Monster-of-the week superhero show with Son Gohan and Videl Great Saiyaman and Great Saiyawoman, because I love those two dorks, it's about time someone did my girl Videl right, and I like superheroes
Kami and Piccolo Daimao origin story. It would be so fucking cool to see their dynamic, or even who they were before they split
Older Son Goten and Trunks take a spaceship from Bulma and visit the universe. It would provide fun planets to explore and villains to confront, great opportunities to characterize the boys aside from being a mix of their parents' character traits, and also wouldn't it be fun to have an actual gay couple besides the 3 breadcrumbs we have from Kale and Caulifla ?
You know what, no, I'm gonna ramble about this some more. Piccolo is my favourite character in Dragon Ball. Always has been since I first watched Dragon Ball as a kid and saw the fight between him and Goku.
When I found out he becomes one of the good guys in Z, I was really expecting him to be Goku's equal, not just another guy in the background twidling his thumbs waiting for Goku to arrive and save the day. I was expecting him to go full beast mode on the villains, even if he doesn't finish them off. This guy was evil incarnate at the time. He and Goku brutalized each other to the point where neither could stand anymore. Goku won on a technicality.
Like, imagine when Freeza was brutalizing Gohan and Piccolo showed up, instead of doing the whole I'm-the-stoic-warrior-here-to-stall-for-time, he went berserk like he did during his fight with Goku.
Imagine him going like this at Freeza for hurting Gohan
Scaring him and reminding the audience that he's Piccolo fucking Daimao. You can still have Freeza get his dumb transformations out of the way and have Piccolo put up a good fight before Goku shows up to take over because Piccolo is tired or injured or whatever. Have Freeza worry about the two teaming up like they did against Raditz. Have Piccolo's presence mean something beyond just another shocked and worried face in the crowd. That kind of temper he had doesn't just go away without going out of your way to work on it.
Piccolo had so much potential in Z. His relationship with Gohan is such a great part of his character, but really underutilized in the grand scheme of thing, both in and out of battles. Him charging at Cell during his and Gohan's Kamehameha struggle was such a great moment that I wish we saw more of that stuff throughout. The fact that Toriyama didn't think to write something like that in the manga is a crime.
Bleh. I'm in a mood about my green alien demon boy.
I would have loved if there was a filler episode that took place while Gohan was still in high school but it was after Goku came back where it’s time for parent teacher conferences and Gohan offhandedly mentions/warns his teacher that his mom can be a little scary or intimidating at times but his dad is really chill which the teacher is like ‘it’s fine I’ve met plenty of strict parents before’ and Gohan figures it’ll be fine. Unknown to Gohan something comes up with Goten during the day of the conference (maybe Chichi forgot a dentist appointment and Goku would freak if he saw any needles during the appointment) and Chichi doesn’t trust Goku to remember the important details of how Gohan is doing in school so she sends piccolo in her place to keep track of what’s said during the meeting.
The teacher is fully convinced Piccolo is Gohan’s mom.
Here’s a little faux screenshot that I’ve had collecting dust of Koji & Kikami (ft. Koji getting a heart attack after Kika jumps off a ledge) to celebrate! I’m hoping I can get the rest of this done one day (it’s been so long since I’ve touched this project)
Everyone likes to talk and moan about how the Earthling cast not named Krillin got the short end of the stick in Z and after. But its usually just concerning Yamcha and Tenshinhan.
And while I agree that they both deserved better, I was still happy that Yamcha hung around even if he didn't say or do much in the Boo arc.
You know who really got shafted in this franchise? Chaozu.
This guy got shafted the second he lost his fight against Krillin in the 22nd tournament. He's killed mid-sentence by Piccolo Daimao. He's taken out off-screen by Tao Pai Pai and makes his return at the end of the 23rd tournament as a barely discernable dot in one of the last panels. He blows himself up and then is more or less gone for the rest of the series. There's no character to him beyond being "Tenshinhan's friend". The anime at least tries to give him something to do, like it did with Lunch in the Saiyan arc. But Chaozu is such a nothing character that he could've been replaced with a cat or dog something and the effect would still be the same.
Everyone dunks on Yamcha and Krillin when they should be dunking on Chaozu, if anyone. He has done NOTHING in the entire series and his one gimmick of fiddling with tournament matchup numbers is taken over by Boo in the end
Maybe a dumb question but, how does Piccolo refer to Demon King Piccolo? Father? Predecessor? I have this vague memory he might have called him his father at one point, but I'm not sure.
He does refer to him as his "father", as it's honestly probably the closest term even if he is essentially his spirit reincarnated.
