TW - POVERTY AWARENESS QUOTE 3
Wednesday, January 3, 2024
“True generosity consists precisely in fighting to destroy the causes which nourish false charity. False charity constrains the fearful and subdued, the “rejects of life,” to extend their trembling hands. True generosity lies in striving so that these hands–whether of individuals or entire peoples–need be extended less and less in supplication, so that more and more they become human hands which work and, working, transform the world.” – Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed

When education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor.

Book Assignment #2: Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1970) by Paulo Freire
Posting these snippets for I know some people who need to read these messages and this book, particularly, kasi nga "the existence of the oppressed is necessary to their [oppressors'] existence". Periodt.
Tumblr media
For me, truly, the unloved are not the oppressed but the oppressors. Sila talaga yung mga kulang sa aruga eh.
Tumblr media
And they dehumanize themselves too in the process.
Tumblr media
They are the 'entitled' ones, too.
Tumblr media
Our oppressors only live for us—those whom they oppress.
Tumblr media
Smells like COVID, eh?
Tumblr media
It's a cycle, you see.
For this reading, I would like to reflect on my favorite part of the book which made me realize a lot of things.
Tumblr media
I am linking this to the impostor syndrome, which, I think, I have. I am self-diagnosed, though. Not sure if this deserves a proper diagnosis, but I only feel that the signs match with what I have been experiencing throughout my life. This has sprung from the inferiority I had back when I was not yet open to the public about my stutter—a speech impediment that disallows me from being fluent in my speech, causing me to have involuntary blocks and repetitions of either words or syllables. This speech impediment, later on, gave me speaking anxiety, where there are times I could blurt out words properly and have no stutter but feel intensely nervous instead.
In my teenage years, I had known myself to be someone who totally lacked confidence most especially when facing people in public to the mere point that saying my name, introducing myself during JS prom had stressed the hell out of me and put me in a state of complete humiliation.
Later on in my life, also connecting it to my stutter and speaking anxiety, people I would tag as “my oppressors” would think I am lying, am not sure about my answers or whatever I'm saying, am a fraud, am not qualified to do what I have been asked to do, or, simply, have poor memory, and would tend to distort my reality by framing it to whichever way they want to—which, has a clearer term now, gaslighting.
Tumblr media
This, consequently, led me to struggle with saying no to people and choose my friends carefully, thinking they’d only be a burden to my life if I’d always deal with helping them. It’s a long story to tell but I think it deserves proper sharing when given the chance to.
Tumblr media
I wish that people knew more about these things that I read from the book, so they can spare themselves from being "the oppressed" or at least somehow help in alleviating the pain and suffering brought about by oppressors to others.

The method I am using for my research goes against traditional approaches in academia. Portraiture (Lawrence-Lightfoot, 1983) honors participants & attributes their contribution to the research by *including* their identity as opposed to traditional research that values anonymity. I believe strongly in this transformative level of partnership for the work I am doing. I am at the stage where the Institutional Review Board must approve my research before I can proceed. What should have been a one week process is going on four weeks with no substantive response to status requests. The world of academia, like so many of our institutions, was not built for those that do not conform to systems. While I wait for IRB approval, Nas & I created an introductory video to share with those interested in partnering in this research. After I defend & graduate, I plan to continue with the interviews on the podcast. For me, this is the beginning of a journey and I am so thankful for the relationships that make this all possible. #portraiture #lawrencelightfoot #crt #criticalracetheory #culturalcapital #communityculturalwealth #yosso #pedagogyoftheoppressed #liberatorylearning #qualitativeresearch #criminalinjusticesystem #reentry #formerlyincarcerated #massincarceration #jimcrow #blackcodes #peersupport #research #academia #aspirationalcapital #linguisticcapital #familialcapital #socialcapital #navigationalcapital #resistancecapital #tstg #theseedthatgrew https://www.instagram.com/p/CLm5Bf6pnAo/?igshid=1re4u4pd3p4zt

Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.

#Questions & #Answers for a #large #class #protocol 1. Students ask a series of questions to a teacher/ guest. 2. All the other students listen and write down the questions. 3. As the teacher answers those questions, students can write a brief response from what they heard. 4. The teacher can also write down and number the main concept for each question. 5. Afterwards, students practice reviewing the copied questions and summarizing the reported speech of what they heard in pairs. This is an activity for the 4 skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking. Finally, new words can be reviewed using a call and response #protocol called #word #sandwiches to #review #vocabulary Teaching with limited resources in #Madagascar @mobileteacher #teacher #training #creative #group #assessment #day164 #culturallyresponsiveteaching @elprograms #pedagogyoftheoppressed #paolofriere #inspired #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #teachershare #teacherlife🍎 #teacher #teachabroad #whatsoutsidemywindow (at Tananarive, Antananarivo, Madagascar) https://www.instagram.com/p/By6Uk2AgWEd/?igshid=1x45z5lvum0pf
