Restoring Dopamine Production in Parkinson's Disease?
Replacing Lost Neurons in Parkinson's Disease with Bemdaneprocel and ANPD001 cell therapies
Bemdaneprocel dopaminergic neuron cell therapy by BlueRock Therapeutics, A Bayers company
Key points
Focus on Allogeneic therapy – a drug product developed from human embryonic stem cells.
Recently completed Phase I study.
One-year interim data presents
Dopaminergic neurons survived and engrafted into the brain upon surgical implantation
High dose cohort presented improvement in "on" status (2.16 hr)
Low dose cohort showed improvement in "on" status (0.72 hr)
BlueRock Therapeutics is starting Phase II very soon.
ANPD001 Dopaminergic neuron precursor cell therapy by Aspen Neuroscience recently received FDA clearance, to begin with clinical trial
Focus on autologous therapy, i.e., collecting patient skin cells, reprogramming them to iPSCs, and developing dopamine neuronal precursor cells as a drug product.

“My grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about 5 years ago. At first she started with mild symptoms, but recently she has been getting worse extremely rapidly. All of a sudden she stopped eating and all food we give her she rejects. In the course of three weeks she has lost about 15 pounds due to the depression Parkinson’s disease has caused her. Her whole body shakes involuntarily and she waddles as she walks because of the stiffness in her legs. If you are not familiar with Parkinson’s disease, let me tell you a little bit about it. Parkinson’s disease is a disease that causes tremors all throughout the body and involuntary movements. Parkinson’s causes stiffness to the legs restricting people from walking normally. It not only affects the physical aspect of a person but also the emotional and mental. For the whole month of June my grandmother has been in agony, suffering severe depression and anxiety. The anxiety has prohibited her to sleep for endless nights which has caused major frustration in her, worsening her condition. Every night I come into her room, I find her crying and desperate for someone or something to help her. Right now my grandmother is at the lowest I have ever seen her in my life. It hurts my heart so much seeing her like this because I feel useless not being able to do anything to help her. Since I was eager for a cure, I started to do research and came upon a treatment I thought would be out of our hands. This treatment is called stem cell therapy for Parkinson’s which will replace damaged dopamine producing cells in the brain. It costs $12,000 and I understand not everyone will be able to donate, so in the meantime please help us in prayer to fight this disease and share to all your friends. If you are capable of donating, please please take this into consideration. It might change my grandmothers life for the better. Thank you so much and God bless you. Please keep us in your prayers!”
