to add to your “why can’t they just be friends” post - why can’t kairi and sora just be friends ? the subtle clues in the storyline of KH is def leading down that path

Yeah I don't get why there always have to be a supposedly girl "love interest" character. But the phrase why can't they be friends is never stated for any straight relationships

I'm not going to pretend there wasn't something between them but after the first game, it seems Sora doesn't feel the same.

and I don't know it's not very interesting with barely any chemistry between them. In kh2 what was that reunion between them. It was awkward and their feelings have passed, but Sora being Sora didn't want to lose her and still wanted to remain her friend.

I don't think their relationship as romantic now. I think it's developed into more of a friendship. and in kh3 the paopu doesn't have to be inherently romantic but how come he felt awkward at first and only took it as a good luck charm

KH has a problem every action movie has where there always have to be a straight romantic interest when why can't they be friends and have the female character get more developed.

So you know how the Secret Place is basically a representation of Riku’s heart… I’m imagining a scenario where Sora has to dive into Riku’s heart, and whereas inside Sora’s heart was represented as the play island, inside Riku’s heart is represented as the Secret Place. Except this version of it is long and twisting like a maze, almost like it’s trying to keep Sora from finding the innermost parts of Riku’s heart.

The walls are lined with drawings of memories… but the deeper Sora goes the drawings change to dreams….wishes Riku keeps hidden.

Imagine Sora finds a drawing that at first glance looks like the drawing of him and Kairi in the Secret Place, but looking closer, it’s Riku offering Sora a paopu instead, the rock it was drawn on cracked straight through. A secret wish…

So I just looked at Hikari English translation lyrics for the first time...

IT'S DEFINITELY FROM KH1 RIKU'S POV I'm going insane it's so him.

It shows how he is alone and that he got separated for Sora. He forgotten his destiny probably referring to his Kingdom Key going to Sora. Then he is referred to as light he awakens in the middle of the night.

Now the light is sometimes referred to him or Sora. Because to Riku, Sora is light.

He wishes he can tell him but he's scared and repressed his feelings. And he always wants to be together with Sora. Because with Sora who he views as light, he'll be fine when it's In the middle of the night when it's dark such as when he was going through a dark place in KH1

He's like turn everything off, don't do anything else but look at me. It gives KH1 Riku vibes so much.

He's still in his "I'm definitely not gay" phase and says he doesn't believe in us completely

But with Sora, he views as his Light

Riju wants to continue being with him and just want Sora to only pay attention to him.

And the thing about light, Riku is the light but to Riku, Sora is His Light.

They are each other lights.

Riku once said in the novels, Riku looked away from Sora because he was dazzling. For Riku he was too bright or dazzling.

Sora regularly gets hand-me-downs from Riku. Riku had a growth spurt just before KH1 and his favorite yellow shoes were too small, but they were also too big for Sora. Sora, defiantly wore then everyday, despite not fitting.

But honestly. Why would Nomura choose to start the paopu sharing scene with Sora focused on Riku. Why would Nomura choose to have Sora frowning and reluctant to share paopu with Kairi until Kairi clarifies it doesn’t mean they’re a couple. Why would Nomura not tell the voice actors this scene is romantic if it’s meant to be romantic. Why would Nomura consider not having Sora and Kairi share paopu at all. Why would Nomura choose to have Sora start questioning what romantic love and true love are in KH3. Why would Nomura have Sora notice the parallels between himself & Riku and Anna & Elsa just to begin wondering what he and Riku are (according to the novel, Sora doesn’t feel like ‘siblings’ is the right answer). Why would Nomura directly parallel Riku’s feelings for Sora with Hercules’ romantic feelings for Megara. Why would Nomura choose to not show Sora acting ‘romantic’ (in the eyes of the general audience) with Kairi until after Sora forgets Riku’s true love sacrifice (and arguably other things about Riku) and associates Kairi with his savior — a situation that parallels another romantic Disney tale, The Little Mermaid, and is not unlike Sora associating Namine (and then Kairi) with the person most precious to him in CoM when it’s actually Riku that Namine has replaced in Sora’s most precious memory, the meteor shower promise… another memory that Sora may have forgotten. Why would Nomura choose to show Riku’s true love sacrifice multiple times, emphasizing how important it is, if that moment/memory is not going to be vital later. Why would Nomura specifically shut down the possibility of Riku/Namine when he’s usually pretty indifferent to shipping. Why would Nomura choose to not have Kairi’s memories hold an important connection to Sora beyond the knowledge that unreality exists, and then in the same breath, give Riku an important, personal connection to Sora through his dreams. Why would Nomura choose to make Riku the only one who can go after Sora, who has the power to save him? Why would Nomura choose to parallel Riku with Cinderella and Aurora whose “dreams lead her to her true love”? Why would Nomura do any of this if Sora/Riku’s not happening.

How do you even possibly vote KH2 here. How is it in second place. The only good parts of KH2 are the prologue and Sora meeting Riku again. Everything else is genuinely bad. Especially in Disney worlds. KH1, CoM, and BBS beat it by lightyears because they have actual stories going on. KH2 only exists as an excuse to make reaction commands happen

ya ever think about how kairi is THE current most recent link in the chain of the scala keyblade legacy? aka generations of masters taught students who then grew up to become masters of their own and teach students of their own etc etc. as far as characters we know for certain we’ve got a line going from odin to eraqus to aqua to kairi

and obviously we know that everyone else at that (probably prestigious) scala school died young without ever achieving their dreams. like given that odin apparently just straight up retired after dark road it seems those two classes were the only ones and there weren’t any other keyblade trainees in scala. (unless there was another school in a different part of town but even if there was, those guys are probably all long gone by now. would be a killer side plot though.)

meaning it was all up to xehanort and eraqus to keep up the legacy. and xehanort obviously said ‘screw that i’m gonna do my own thing and cause problems instead’ meaning it was literally all up to eraqus. who for whatever reason didn’t even stay in town and went to hang out in the middle of nowhere (i need this story so badly. why was scala abandoned. where did he even find terra and aqua.) and he only named one of his students a keyblade master before he died.

so now it’s all up to aqua to carry the legacy. although i am curious to see what’s gonna happen with terra and ven bc they need someone to officially recognize them as masters, or at least they’d probably appreciate it. but then it might be kind of embarrassing to begin studying under their former peer, if not downright painful as a reminder of all that they lost in bbs. maybe aqua would be nice and just outright hand them the title instantly. or she might be a stickler and force them to do arbitrary extra work bc that’s how these guys are.

in any case, we at least know kairi intends to train under aqua. which is huge for her because that means these guys are single-handedly keeping the ancient scala tradition alive. quadratum kairi this quadratum kairi that. where is the fanart of her in traditional scala ad caelum swag. we all KNOW they had absolutely fire fashion sense can we please get an outfit like that for kairi. get her one of those charms. c’mon would that not be insanely cool. and also maybe herald some super fun narrative implications
