The ninth edition of Tarang Cine Awards Ceremony was held at the East Coast Railway Sports Complex in Bhubaneswar with Tarang Cine Productions’ ‘Hero No.1’ bagging the Best Film of the Year Award. The film also received Best Story, Screenplay & Dialogue awards. The director of ‘Hero No.1,’ Tapas Sargaria won the Best Director (Critic) Award as well. Ashok Pati bagged the Best Director (Popular) Award for ‘Sister Sridevi’. Anubhav Mohanty won the Star Entertainer of the Year Award for ‘Abhaya,’ while Babusan’ was chosen as the Star Performer of the Year for his amazing acting in ‘Sister Sridevi.’ In the female categories, Elina Samantaray for ‘Abhaya’ and Archita Sahoo for ‘Shiva Not out’ clinched the Star Performer of the Year and Star Entertainer of the Year awards, respectively. Youngsters Swaraj Barik and Bhumika Dash were awarded as Stars of Tomorrow for their movie ‘Tu Mo Love Story’. Suhani Mohanty from the movie was awarded Little Star of the Year. Renowned Odia cinematographer and director Raju Mishra was conferred Lifetime Award for his immense contribution to Odia film industry. Singers Rituraj Mohanty and Deeptirekha Padhi were awarded Musical Sensation Male and Female for ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and ‘Tike Tike Achinha’ respectively. For the soundtrack of ‘Tu Mo Love Story,’ Premanand bagged the Melody Maker of the Year Award while Abhijeet Majumdar was presented with the Most Entertaining Music Director of the Year Award for ‘Sister Sridevi.’ Veteran actor Mihir Das and Smita Mohanty got the Best Supporting Role Awards. Manoj Mishra bagged the Bad Man of the Year award for ‘Abhaya’ while Funniest Star of the Year award went to Chittaranjan Tripathy. Best Lyricist, Best Choreographer, Best Cinematographer and Best Editor awards went to Basantraj Samal, Girish Mohanty, Subhranshu Das and Susant Mani, respectively. The audience at the award ceremony were enthralled by some stupendous acts and performances by Odia film stars. The ceremony started with a tribute to Bollywood queen Sridevi. Bollywood comedian VIP (Vijay Ishwarlal Pawar) made the audience laugh out loud while Odia actors Shakti Baral and Papu Pom Pom also left the audience in splits with their comical performances. Upcoming movie ‘Love Promise’ was unveiled at the ceremony with a performance by its lead actors Rakesh and Jaya. Superstars Babusan and Anubhav Mohanty shared the stage to announce Tarang Cine Production’s two upcoming movies ‘Sundergarh Ra Salman Khan’ and ‘Premkumar- Salesman of the Year,’ scheduled to be released during Rajo this year. The 8th Ruchi Odia Filmfare Award (OFA) ceremony was held amid much fanfare here last evening with Babusan Mohanty winning the best actor award for ‘Hero No 1’ and Elina Samantray Best Actress Award for the movie ‘Abhay’. Bollywood actress Raveena Tondon and Miss Asia Pacific 2013 Srishti Rana attended the event as chief guests. Comedian Sunil Pal, who also attended the event, entertained the audience with his jokes. While awards were given in total 28 categories, Tarang Cine Productions bagged 12 awards for its four films. Veteran actor Bijay Mohanty was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award for his remarkable contribution to Odia film industry. He was presented with cash prize of Rs 25,000, a trophy and a certificate. Similarly, veteran actor and producer Pradyumna Lenka was also awarded on the occasion. This apart, Debidutt Mohanty was awarded for Best Screenplay, Shakti Baral for Best Dialogue and Souren Bhatt for Best Singer. Besides, newcomer Swaraj and Bhumika bagged Jury awards. Veteran Ollywood actress Aparajita Mohanty received 14th Swadist Bioscope Award for her contribution to Odia film industry for the past 35 years. The award was presented by Home Video Entertainment at Saheed Bhawan, Cuttack, during a function on Sunday evening. Aparajita was awarded a silver bioscope and a cheque of Rs 25,000 during the programme attended by English Professor Smita Devi, who is also her sibling, as the chief guest.
