Reminder not to stereotype kintypes.
Just because one is a fox does not mean they're as happy and playful as one.
Just because one is a rabbit does not mean they're a cute, cuddly, soft bunny.
Just because one is a bird does not mean they're sad to be earth-bound.
Just because one is a wolf does not mean they have "two sides/personalities" while shifting.
Just because one is a cat does not mean they are faking alterhumanity, or in their "Warrior Cat phase"
Just because one is a nonhuman does not mean that we do quads.
Just because one is a nonhuman does not mean we have gear.
Just because one is a nonhuman does not mean we are lean, strong, and Caucasian.
Just because one is a nonhuman does not mean we express our alterhumanity in eccentric ways.
Every nonhuman is valid as fuck. From the smallest mouse, to the largest whale, everything in between, you are valid.

Trying to communicate my alterhuman feelings to my parents is hard because I'm like "I don't like being human, I wish I was an animal and I feel like I'd be happier as one and I overall just don't feel like a human." and they're like "noooo!! :(( don't say that, you can be happy as a human!! you're a human!!!" no, mum, this isn't a part of my depression, this is me coming out to you as a fucking crow.

i do want to say to the other nonhumans who have been told that their otherkin, fictionkin, therian, alterhuman, or other nonhuman identity is "just a phase" and that it would go away if you "had less free time" or "more to do with your time"- i want to say that at least in my case, that's really just a big fat lie
i began identifying as nonhuman in late 2010, early 2011. i was browsing otherkin forums back then, back when forums were still widely used. it took up a lot of my thoughts at first because it was new and it can take a while to figure out what your nonhuman identity is. as time passed and my life got progressively harder, going through bouts of homelessness, living in hotels, having my trust broken by friends... never did i once lose my nonhumanity.
sure it fell to the back of my mind while other priorities took the wheel, like paying for shelter, but if anything, being homeless and experiencing the "real world" solidified my nonhuman identity more than anything. being exposed to the "real world" make me understand that i do not understand how humans think, and that i still am not one, over 10 years later. i never became misanthropic, but my feelings of "otherness" only intensified as i became more and more confused about the human experience, which lead me to feel less and less like one. something like the feeling of a lost coyote who wandered too far into the city, staring at the city skyline, unfamiliar with this terrain, unsure of how to even begin to adapt.
if something is a part of you, it won't just go away because other things come along. i never stopped identifying as a wolfdog even while i was scared out of my mind and busy facing the challenges of the human world. those challenges and hurdles that don't exist in the natural world literally reinforced my understanding of my nonhumanity. i will simply never get the way humans think or operate, and that's fine. it's literally a non-issue. they don't get me, either.

something I’ve rarely but have unfortunately seen in the community is people complaining and even annoyed about the ‘inaccuracies’ of some people’s kintypes? I understand that often an interest or special interest in a specific animal will accompany therianthropy, but it wasn’t something I expected to see from this community
so let me say this: you are NOT less valid if your kintype is not ‘scientifically accurate’.
if you are a bird or a bat, so what if your wings are on your back?
if you are an unnatural colour, so what if your animal isn’t typically bright pink or green or blue with yellow stripes?
so what if you crave meat in your shifts as a herbivore kintype?
so what if you have markings or patterns than wouldn’t appear in nature?
you are the coolest guy around !! 🦇

a Tip i have for figuring out a kintype (or any label really) is just. Trying it out! if you’re questioning being a lion therian, refer to yourself as one and see how it feels! spend time in that space! if it doesn’t feel right, you can just stop calling yourself that. trial and error babey
this is how i figured out i am angelkin and also Not alienkin . there is No shame in getting it wrong

I do not care if you see "people" as a species Neutral word. Some of us don't like it used on us if you cannot respect that, that is a you problem. It's like continuing to use bro on someone when they tell you not to and your only fucking excuse is that "it's gender neutral!!" No one gives a fuck. No one. Gives a flying fuck. If you cannot respect other's word preferences I don't fucking like you period.
Eta; the comparison is a personal experience. I am trans/nonbinary. Same goes for weight. Do not call me chubby when I tell you not to even if you're trying to be nice.

I want black bears and brown bears added to minecraft so badly! Pandas and Polar bears are so cute!!! So why not add black and brown bears?? If we got black bears we could get more fruit added too like pears and strawberries for the black bears to eat! And with brown bears, you can lure them with bee hives and maybe shear them for claws??? And then turn the claws into tools or weapons??? Idk I just want more bears in minecraft please.

I’m trying not to become a misanthrope like so many other otherkin and therians. I’m trying to remind myself of the good that humans have done. But sometimes that’s impossible to see, and all I see is the negative. The horrible things that humans have done. The things I want to run far far away from. Sometimes it feels like that’s all humanity is. How do you deal with it?

nobody talks about the struggle of having a kintype from a source that's actually just horribly cringy
it's like
"hey this piece of media is a really integral part of my identity as an individual and has had a big influence on my life, it means a lot to me and is one of my favorites :)"
"oh cool we should watch it then!"
"... no"
