A rose-tinted reflection to remind you what a great life you've led. But for me, that wasn't the case. There was no romantic, nostalgic ending for me. All I had was pain, darkness, and despair on the day that I died, dragged by fire into the depths of hell. That's where I live now. A shadow of the man I used to be. A ghost living in my former life. Life goes on, but not for me. She burst into my world with her smiles and her sledgehammer, ready to smash down my walls. She thinks she can save me, but she won't. I don't want to be saved. But I'll play along. After all, that's all I have left now, a life of pretend and a world of lies, where I play the role they want me to play. Zak Atwood. Son. Brother. Friend. But boyfriend? That's never going to happen. How can I live that life when all I feel is dead inside? Reckless Lies is book four in the Rebels of Sandland series. It can be read as a standalone, but reading the other books in the series is advised. There are scenes of a sexual nature in this story, therefore it is intended for readers of 18+ years. Please take note of the trigger warnings listed at the beginning of this book.

My current feelings on the T9S ships
I made a list like a year ago but I can’t find it haha. And my opinions have changed a lot so I'm going to be doing an update. If I missed any ships, please let me know!
Jay/Leia - My favorite canon ship out of the newbies. Granted I’m not AS emotionally invested in them as Gwen/Nikki, like to the point of constantly thinking about them and writing for them (which is weird since they might be the ship I make the most edits for haha). I've written so many fucking metas on them it’s not even funny haha (check my #jl meta tag & also my #jled tag). They’re just so pure and cute together and super overhated imo. Love seeing these two young teens in love.
Gwen/Nikki - Otp of otps. They’re my Jackie/Hyde in this show. So much chemistry, enemies (well frenemies) to lovers. Even though I don’t like that the scenes with them lessened post-Step By Step, I still see signs that they’re endgame. I just hope the writers don’t queerbait me and have them be endgame haha. Also check out my #jhgn tag for parallels :)
Gwen/Leia - Even though Gwikki is my heart and soul, I love Geia too and their parallels to Formciotti (check out my #gled tag). Gwen is legit the girl next door and not to mention, besties to lovers! There’s clearly something between them. Imo, I think they’re the most queer coded dynamic on T9S. The idea of them being platonic hurts my soul.
Nikki/Leia - Even though are only a few fans, I couldn’t help but put them. They’re just very cute and I love their scenes in Summer Storm. I think they could been a really cute college romance sort of thing. Also the love triangle trope where both girls ditch the guy for each other is A+.
Jay/Ozzie - I'm putting them here because of Ozzie's reaction to Jay's flirting in the pilot 😂. Same as Nikkeia, I see them as a cute college romance but also lowkey endgame in a universe with Neia & Gwikki/Geia & Niknate as the endgames. Their energy gives me Fez/Kelso (Hannah has a post talking about it and I see tbh). Plus they were GIVING old married couple energy in Summer Storm.
Ozzie/Etienne - Perfect bbs no notes. If someone can make Ozzie smile the way he did in LS, then they’re a keeper. I hope we get to see Etienne in s2.
Jay/Nate - Also my personal Fez/Kelso. To me, they’re just as gay as Gwen/Leia and I wish that was acknowledged more. They’re just so funny and cute. Even though I ship Nate/Leia now, I wish that the triangle was Leia/Jay/Nate instead since Nate is basically in love with Jay. I mean it’s canon that Nate always lets Jay ride shotgun. Plus Nate literally ditched his girlfriend to go with Jay to see a used hot tub. Now you can see that as Nate being a good friend, I see that Nate wanting to hang out with bf and do something fun.
Nate/Leia - Talked about it here. While I still have the same issues with them (giving off plot device, screwing over Nikki, very few scenes of them alone), I realized that that’s moreso on the writing and the way it was executed. But I really love them and want to see more of them in s2.
Nate/Nikki - Had potential early on and some cute moments later, but they ended up being a mini J*lso. 1 & 2

Wait does Kelso’s daughter or Brooke show up or get mentioned in T9S??? Additionally, if Hyde and Jackie had ended up together what do you think their kids personality would be in the show?
As of S1, neither Brooke nor Betsy seem to exist.
J/H's kid could be characterized many ways. Thinking how this kid would fit into the T9S group (let's say Jay is Kelso and Brooke's kid) ...
Regardless of gender, this kid would be best friends with Gwen and Nikki, which would cause conflict since Gwen and Nikki have a tense dynamic (until their one bonding episode).
J/H's kid would also already be best friends with Leia -- like siblings or close cousins who grew up together, and they would introduce Leia to their Point Place friends (although Leia would have met Gwen on her own). J/H's kid would be happy Leia's finally stretching her horizons during her first summer in Point Place.
But at some point as Leia and Gwen become close, J/H's kid might feel shut out since those are two of their best friends. JH's kid would start bonding with Ozzie, not Jay or Nate (too much Kelso for them) and grow closer with Nikki.
🤔 A lot of directions I could go with this. I have no plans of writing a T9S fic, but Leia/Gwen would be the romantic couple if I did (I write where the most the emotional chemistry lies -- for me; I know that is subjective).
... lol J/H's kid ending up with Jay. That has hilarious and intriguing potential. Damn my imagination! I already have ideas how this could work.
Red and Kitty, of course, would be grandparents to J/H's kid. Not legally but emotionally and in every way that counts.
Thank you for the ask! You got my brain doing jumping jacks. 😄

Title: An Eternity To Summer
Fandom: Shining Nikki
Pairing: Zoey/Dodora
Dodora is waiting for the yacht to arrive, eager to come back to Cicia. The cold and sturdy wind feels fresh to her pale skin and the frills of her swimsuit sways along, as if excited to be one with the strong force. She already feels refreshed after a good night’s worth of sleep and she is excited at the thought of going back to Sunnysand Island. While having great expectations of what the island has to offer, it exceeded them. She’s extremely happy to have such a light and uplifting vacation and she’s sure that Nikki, Blue, and Momo would share that sentiment, hearing how their adventures had truly escalated.
Speaking of them, she can see Blue occupied with braiding Nikki’s hair, both of them looking so delighted at the action it’s as if they’re an actual couple, while Momo goes around making some complaints of how Blue’s braiding is atrocious. Though Dodora doubts that the somehow not-cat would know how to do one, she may never know if Momo actually knows the style of braiding.
Before Dodora could go to chat up with them, she can hear that deep and alluring voice from her ears.
“Is everything alright, sweetie?” Dodora can’t help but blush at the captivatedness of what is the most beautiful voice she has ever heard. She could only curse herself of how she, the Envoy of Sweet, can easily get distracted by the leader of the Justiciars’ voice. Ever since performing onstage with Zoey, Dodora easily gets charmed by the aura Zoey presents herself in. Strong, enticing, confident, tough, flirtatious, no-nonsense. The performance gave Dodora a strong first impression on the kind of person Zoey is, especially with the many rumors and sightings she found herself in.
There’s something about how larger-than-life Zoey is for a mortal, reports of her many victorious wins and recruitment of what came to be known as some of the most famous and strongest of her force. When she stares down, she feels like a goddess born of war and victory, her smile sending chills down many people’s spine and her tough exterior making her hard to pin out. Dodora expects Zoey to be a nonchalant and lonesome figure, especially with the huge, infamous reputation she upholds.
Yet, Zoey broke down all those perceptions out of the window. Playful and sarcastic, yet kind and honorable. She is always cooperative with the December Troupe and praises them of the obvious hard work they endure themselves onto their plays. She leans into her role fairly easily, acting so natural that it feels like staring into an actual facet of hers. The way she postures, talks so formally and elegantly, and switches her emotions in the blink of an eye, it makes even the most skilled of actors possessed with such envy. Being a famous idol herself, Dodora is no stranger to acting, especially getting many requests to be starred in their blockbuster movies to bring in more money. She’d seen many actors and even some singers and models with no acting experience be able to shine through their presence just by how impressive they truthfully are in their ways of expressing their characters.
However, she can say that none of them could hold a candle towards Zoey, who by just a single glance of her sharp eyes and spurting out some simple words, manage to surpass all the most talented actors. She wonders exactly how Zoey manages to be so good at her performance despite lacking any experience. It must have to do with the fact that Zoey is the leader of the Justiciars.
And no, she’s definitely not being biased just because they were the lead roles of their play together. She’s only appreciating the talents of a person whom she could say is now her friend.
Zoey smirks as if awaiting Dodora's answer. “What’s wrong Miss Idol? Couldn’t bring yourself to speak?”
“Hey! I’m an idol! I’m fully capable of speaking for myself!! Dodora huffs, cutely glaring at Zoey as the latter laughs wholeheartedly.
“Relax, I’m just messing with you,” Zoey’s eyes glint with amusement, staring at the idol as if she’s a new specimen just recently discovered. “You seem to be weirdly staring and holding onto silence. Anything you’d like to tell me about?”
Dodora doesn’t know what will ensue if she ever tells the leader of the Justiciars about how she may or may not have a thing for the performance she upholds during one of the times she is onstage with the ferocious woman for December Troupe.
“I-It’s nothing, rea-really,” she stammers, feeling embarrassed that she slipped out her words like that. She’s an idol, a famous one at that, who had been surrounded by her fans multiple times at the many heights of her career, and now she stumbles herself just because of an amazing and electrifying performance held by a mortal woman. “‘I am perfectly capable of being calm and capable. Nothing important to…to talk about!”’
“Are you sure about that?”’ Zoey grins widely and it's so unfair on how attractive she looks with no effort put into it. “‘You seem to be really nervous right back there.”
Dodora puts on a pout, facing away from Zoey. The latter laughs at the display.
“Say Miss Idol,” Zoey asks with that sweet, sultry tone. “I'm curious to know what you’ll be doing days after this vacation is officially over, you would say.”
Dodora can only feel confusion at the word she just heard from the leader of the Justiiars. She didn't think that Zoey would be interested in the life of the famous idol. One would think that a person like Zoey, made of tough bones and blood, will show no interest in the entertainment industry, but it’s also beneficial to have all sorts of information on all sorts of people, no matter how unimportant they might be.
“I will be going to Valentine at some point next month as there will be political talks between the Pigeon Kingdom and Ninir Kingdom as well as Valentine’s music festival starting once more for the first time ever since the war between the Apple Federation and Pigeon Kingdom ended,” answers Dodora. “‘I was chosen to be Ninir’s Ambassador of Culture since I won the contest back in Cicia. Thus, I have to be familiarized with all the local culture and etiquette at Valentine before the talks between Queen Lillith and Queen Ophelia begin.”
“Ah yes, I heard that Yeeso will be coming for the festival as well as he is the heir of the Cyrants,” Zoey immediately says. “It’ll be a sight for one of Miraland’s famous idols to grace this land to partake in the political exchange between two kingdoms.”
“Yeah!” Dodora’s eyes now glint with excitement and isn’t it an adorable sight. Zoey finds herself intrigued with the sweet idol. “I’ve never been to Valentine before, but I am so excited to explore there and use that chance to try out all kinds of food and see the music they’re going to display. Plus, I want to touch all of the hearts of my adoring fans and all those who newly discovered me with my singing! I think this is a perfect opportunity for me, really!”
“Valentine…it’s been a while since I had gone there,” Zoey mutters, looking back at her memories with swelling nostalgia. “I’d only been there once and it’s only because of Yeeso and the responsibilities he still have to hold as the heir of the Cyrant clan, but I enjoy the architecture and the orchestral music the people played. Plus, the outfits the people wore are interesting in an archaic way. It touches a dazzling fire in everyone’s heart.”
“Ohhh, is there anything you could tell me about Valentine?” Dodora banters. “I searched out lots of information on the Internet, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask someone who had been there before.”
“I’ll give out the information you want,” Zoey smirks, a dangerous gleam shining through that torches Dododra’s heart that she didn’t think is possible. “But…you have to impress me though.”
“What, why?!” Dodora pouts, finding herself in a staring contest with Zoey.
“I can see that there is more to you than meets the eye,” Zoey clarifies, her voice surging with so much excitement and fierceness placed into it. “I sense some great…no…ancient power within you…One that makes me excited at the prospect of meeting you once more. The first time I met you, I could feel this dormant, yet rising power within you, waiting to be awakened once more. I can easily sense all kinds of auras within people and yours is one of the most exciting I ever felt in this wild life of mine.”
“I want to know more about you…There has something special that my heart yearns for…You shouldn’t face me today, especially that we have to leave this island…You’re an idol especially, a kindhearted one at that and I don’t think you’re the kind of person who would be up for a fight. However, I wouldn’t lie when I tell you this. The opportunity of challenging you one day…If ever you’re ready, you should challenge me with the best you had.”
Generally, Dodora wouldn’t accept such an offer…but maybe…maybe someday.
“I’ll think about it,” Dodora grins mischievously, mentally chuckling at the adorable disappointment in Zoey’s face, but the latter shrugs it away quickly as if a minor inconvenience.
“A bummer to hear,” Zoey shakes her head. “I believe that fighting alongside you would be a delight to have. I’m not lying when I told you that your power fascinates me.”
“…Maybe I’ll take you on that challenge someday.”
The two continue to watch, waiting for the yachts to come over as the bristling sunlight kisses their pale skin and the grinding waves of the seashore reach their toes. Dodora gazes back at Zoey once more, finding herself fascinated with the rare, genuine smile plastered on her lips, looking so much more real as every second passes. Despite the grueling silence growing between them, it feels as if Dodora is glancing at a rare side of the infamous Zoey that she barely lets out.
Before Dodora can even spare her with words, Zoey beats her to it, with that same smile. “…Let’s come back here someday.”
Dodora finds herself smiling back, the prospect of going back with Zoey on Sunnysand Island lovely. “Yeah…I’d like that.”

Looking back over the last ten shows for the BSOTS podcast feed, eight of them featured at least one Creative Commons licensed tune.  Even after more than 15 years of podcasting, the CC music landscape still feels like largely uncharted territory for me, which is probably why I've felt the need to dig through the online crates to see what I can find.  In addition, I've been listening to prior BSOTS episodes from over a decade ago, revisiting the music that I have played on the show and taking note of the songs that still sound great to me so that I can reintroduce them on future episodes.  This show marks Camp Lo-Fi's long overdue return to the feed and is where my CC music appreciation agenda kicks into high gear.  The seven songs featured are a mix of tunes from prior BSOTS episodes alongside selections receiving their first spins, cutting across genre and released between 2009 and 2023.
The blocSonic netlabel opened my eyes and ears to the world of CC licensed music.  It was through their netBloc series of compilations that I was introduced to a network of artists and online labels, most of it (if not all) available to freely download and share.  The blocSonic offerings in this episode are courtesy of last year's album from Wals and a stellar cut from Public Enemy (as heard on netBloc vol. 44), featuring the always on-point lyricism of Chuck D and special guest Brother Ali.  Another notable hip-hop moment is "Zo0o0o0p!!!," the brief but absolutely banging cut from Kidkanevil featuring Oddisee, a ridiculously talented emcee and producer whose music I've been championing on this show for well over a decade.  Isak Gaines moves us into the unpredictable and experimental side of jazz with "Dance Of Contradictions," a song that sonically lives up to its title.  A bouncy yet broken groove for the first half of the song gives way to a beatless abyss of sound effects and saxophone screeches before bringing the hammer down with a distorted bass line and a defiant horn section.
Niki J Crawford's "Ridiculous Love" was an unexpected surprise that I stumbled upon over on Jamendo, a sultry soul offering made all the more seductive with the wetSkin Hot Summer ReMix.  It's percussion heavy with a slight Brazilian influence and a breezy shuffle topped with acoustic guitar strums and Niki's powerhouse vocals.  Yoko Absorbing's "Old Futuro Blues" is a short, sweet, and somewhat off-kilter cut that lives in repeated moments of loops, locked grooves, and live instrumentation.  And there's probably no better example of the sonic treasures waiting to be discovered over at the Free Music Archive than live recordings of legendary poet Nikki Giovanni.  "In The Spirit Of Martin" is her ode to not only the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but to the struggle and perseverance of the Civil Rights movement as a whole.
If you're Creative Commons curious but have been unsure where to start looking, hopefully episodes like these can demystify this world of music one song at a time.  Thank you so much for listening.

From the December 8, 2022 story:
The money isn't for his campaign. It is for the Florida Republican Party. But once he declares he is running for president, expected in the late spring or early summer, he won't be allowed to raise big money for the state party, so this is probably his parting shot.
In addition, he wants to show the world—and one Donald J. Trump in particular—that he is capable of raising vast sums of money. And if he pulls in, say, $50 million, that fundraising prowess might impress Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), the Mikes Pence & Pompeo, and Nikki Haley, just in case they get some funny ideas about running for president one of these days.

Ranking every episode for Jeia
1. Dirty Double Booker - They break my heart in this episode, but also have so many cute moments. Jay trading shifts at work, their kiss, how in the beginning of the ep they’re just holding hands, the bicep scene, Jay’s arm around Leia, Leia trying to make things work with both Jay AND Gwen. There should’ve been Jay/Leia/Gwen triangle srsly. Jay being so understanding about Leia making plans with Gwen. Like I said, the ending breaks my heart so badly.
2. Kids In America - Now THIS one gives me so many emotions. I loved their cute moments in the beginning of this. At first, even as a Jay/Jeia stan, they rubbed me the wrong way because I had this feeling Jay was stringing Leia along but now looking at it, it seems like he’s just cherishing those last few moments. Also Kitty making Jay realize he shouldn’t be scared, him wanting to make things work, the “I will spend every day making it up to you” scene. Like HOW are they not the endgame? Come on people! Also Leia’s face post kiss.
3. Boyfriend Day 1 - I LOVE how Jay stood up for Leia and was hellbent on not letting her take the blame. And that speech to Red 🥹. Giving E/D fr. Also them saying the same things at the same, the phone thing, and their hug: ADORABLE! And don’t even get me STARTED on the ‘bye babe! Aww!’ scene! Literally the cutest ever.
4. Summer Storm - It’s not really my fave, mostly because I’ve watched that episode several times haha. But they were cute here. It was nice seeing Leia wanting to take another step and going to Nikki for relationship advice. Also them dancing at the end 🥰. I wish there were more episodes in s1 so we could see them flourish.
5. The Birthday Girl - THE Jeia episode. Leia’s fantasy for them as Kelly and them going together, Jay coming back to wish her a happy birthday, their first kiss, them FINALLY getting together, and them leaving in the car was nice (before they were pulled over ovo). The one thing I didn’t like tho is how Leia was so willing to change herself just to get with Jay. I’ve explained my feelings on this here.
6. Lip Smackers - I’ve discussed my issues with Leia’s plot but I loved the Jeia here. It really solidified that Jay’s feelings for Leia ARE genuine. Before I just thought it was some comedic joke where it’s ‘haha Jay flirting with the New Girl’ (like what friends did with Rachel/Joey early on), but this episode solidified that it was genuine. And it seemed like this was where Leia started to feel the same way about Jay. Also the car scene is A+, like E/D much?
7. Free Leia - While I think it’s more a Geia episode than a Jeia one, I loved their little moments here.
8. That 90s Pilot - Same as Free Leia. I also loved seeing them walking out together and Red being like ‘WTF’. I can only IMAGINE what would’ve happened if E/D was there. J/L just gave such couple vibes in that scene.
9. The Rave - Also not my fave tbh. Like it was fun seeing them be all chaotic but I hate the end where Leia is ‘playing the player’ and ‘Kelso-ing the Kelso’. And how it’s literally applauded in the end?? Gwen herself said that she was just winging the ‘you’re a goddess, own your power’ and that Leia should go after what she wants. Yet Leia still does this?? I do cut her slack because she 14 and Jay is probably the first guy she likes.
10. Step By Step - I love the angst for them in this episode, but once again the whole ‘playing the player’ bullshit. And the way Leia and Gwen literally LAUGH and are PROUD of Leia basically giving Jay a mental breakdown is disgusting. Which is why I hated making gifs for Geia in that episode.

The Psycho: Book Review
Tumblr media
Title-The Psycho
Author-Nikki J. Summers
Review:
I have mixed feeling on this book. This book was okay for the most part. I absolutely love Adams's character. He was complex and morally gray, with the right mix of crazy. I enjoyed his character arc and learning his origin. I love his "brothers"; they are hilarious and just as dark as he is.
That being said, I didn't care much for Liv's character. She was very annoying. I almost DNF the book, but kept reading for Adam and pure curiosity about how it would end. Honestly, I didn't warm up to Liv till about 70% to 80% of the book, and by then, the book was almost over. I felt she should have lightened up as a character earlier in the book; then, maybe I would have liked her more. Other than that, this was an okay book. I don't know if I would recommend this book of the series.
Final Rating:
Cover- 4 stars Spice Level-3 Stars Readability- 2 stars Recommend- No
