NEW SPECIES ALERT 🚨
Tumblr media
A newly discovered sponge, Megaciella sanctuarium, has been named in honor of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary!
The new species of sponge was discovered in the sanctuary during a research cruise aboard the sanctuary’s 22-foot small boat, the R/V Tegula. Tom Turner, Ph.D., a professor and sponge expert from U.C. Santa Barbara, dove with Steve Lonhart, Ph.D., a research ecologist for Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
“It is amazing to me that new species are still being discovered within normal diving depths,” said Lonhart. “After diving in central California since 1988, I realize there is still so much to discover, and Dr. Turner is really exposing the incredible biodiversity of sponges found right here in our very own sanctuary.”

Terrifying Alien-like creature with 20 Arms has been discovered in the Antarctic Ocean. Meet the Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star, a new species with 20 arms and a fruity shape. This large creature lives in the deep and cold waters of the Southern Ocean. It can be purplish or dark reddish in color.
Tumblr media
The Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star is a new species of marine animal that belongs to the genus Promachocrinus, a group of invertebrates related to starfish and sea cucumbers. It was discovered by scientists from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of California, San Diego, who conducted several expeditions to the Southern Ocean between 2008 and 2017.
The Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star has a unique shape and appearance that resembles a strawberry with 20 arms. Its central body, or calyx, is round and flattened, with a diameter of about 10 cm. Its arms are long and slender, reaching up to 30 cm in length. The arms are covered with small projections called pinnules, which help the animal filter food from the water. The color of the animal can vary from purplish to dark reddish, depending on the depth and light conditions.
Tumblr media
The Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star lives in the deep and cold waters of the Southern Ocean, at depths ranging from 65 to 6500 feet. It is usually found attached to rocks or other hard substrates by a stalk-like structure called a cirrus. The animal can also detach itself and swim by waving its arms. It feeds on plankton and other small organisms that it captures with its pinnules.
The Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star is one of four new species of Promachocrinus that were identified by the scientists, along with seven other known species. The researchers used DNA analysis and morphological examination to distinguish the different species. They also named the new species after their distinctive features or locations. For example, Promachocrinus fragarius means “strawberry-bearing” in Latin, while Promachocrinus rossi is named after explorer Sir James Clark Ross, who led the first expedition to Antarctica in 1839.
The discovery of the Antarctic Strawberry Feather Star and its relatives is an example of the rich and diverse biodiversity that exists in the Southern Ocean. The scientists hope that their research will help increase our knowledge and appreciation of this unique and fragile ecosystem. 🙏

Snakeman has just published the scientific descriptions of numerous new species of Lizard in AJH Issues 55 and 56 in May 2022. Confirming his reputation as the powerhouse reptile scientist of the 20th and 21st centuries, Hoser has named more than 500 species and subspecies of reptile, putting him above all other reptile scientists in history except for George Boulenger, who has a strong lead of about 200 species. His advantage was that he was at the British Museum for decades at a time when pretty much everything that came in was new to science. With a 100 year head start on Snakeman Raymond Hoser, it is not a fair race, But compared to his peers, Raymond Hoser wins hands down.   It also comes down to the fact that Raymond Hoser works harder than anyone else.

Bracket A Round 1
Poll 15
Valrik (@newspecies) vs. Nightcore (@pastelkonpeito)
Valrik
he/it
Valrik is a living stuffed animal who always dreamed of running off to join the circus. He never got the opportunity due to parasitic butterfly shenanigans but it still loves to entertain. It was once trapped beneath the earth in a labyrinth as a ghost with only its own corpse as company. He's out now though so its fine! Completely fine.
It is a pink furry creature with a white face, long yellow fangs, a red nose, and red at the corners of his mouth. most of his fur is pink but his paws are white and the tips of his forked tail are also white. Its claws are bright red and its eyes are purple with spirals in them. He also has claws like a velociraptor on his feet. His outfit includes a red tailcoat, green frills around his neck, wrists and waist, a white tutu, and purple pants. This isn't included in any pictures because they are well hidden, but he has tiny sewn seams to keep his body together.
Nightcore
She/sir (ghoul has a wonky gender!)
THE ONE AND ONLY (for legal reasons I must admit she is one of many) SPIRIT OF HALLOWEEN, CORE, VAMPIRE OF THE NIGHT! A snazzy vampire who exists for one reason, celebrating the spooky month! She feels a lot of pressure in her job, and keeps her reputation clean. No swear words! This is a child friendly holiday! She would never encourage bullying either! But at the end of the day, she loves her job, and every second of being a spirit.
Either a blue-gray cat with magenta bat wings, or a lean teenager with bright magenta hair, bat wings, fangs, and heavy emo clothes on. (unless it's Halloween, in which case DAPPER SUIT)

“Everyone has one #doublehelix of #DNA. What we are finding is that there are other helixes that are being formed. In the double helix there are two strands of DNA coiled into a #spiral. It is my understanding that we will be developing #twelvehelixes. During this time, which seems to have started maybe 5 to 20 years ago, we have been #mutating. This is the scientific explanation. It is a#mutation of our species into something for which the end result is not yet known. I am working with three children right now who have three DNA helixes… Some adults that I have tested actually do have another DNA helix forming. Some are even getting their third. These people are going through a lot of major #shifts in their #consciousness and#physicalbodies, because it is all one. In my opinion, the #Earth and everyone here is raising its #vibration… A lot of the #oldparadigms can no longer exist, yet are fighting to be maintained, but there is no doubt that it is changing. Those of us who have chose to live at this time are the forerunners of almost a #newspecies.”
