i was writing an essay on 'the hate u give" and as i was writing, i was about to make a point which in reality, didn't exist at all.

now, i only watched the movie as we didn't have time to read it in class.

when writing, i was about to mention how

"due to the circumstances of her not being able to truly express herself while at school or home, starr feels isolated,"

im not trying to say that she's supposed to feel that way, but i suppose i was projecting my own feelings onto her character. really, i think this would've been a great idea to expand on and i'm a bit sad that it wasn't given much thought.

i guess you could get that idea from seeing her discomfort in the movie, or even paying close attention about how she describes her confliction. its hard for a lot of people to catch without some personal experience first. i think that this idea of estrangement from both her school & community is a strong component within the story's overarching "coming of age" theme.

like, even before khalil dies, we see this internal conflict in starr's character. usually i'd be "against" (not rly do wtv the fuck u want) character death for the sake of character development, but i realize now that it's not about the death, really.

maybe the character development was the friends we made along the way starr develops as a person through the activism around her. she has this moment of clarity where she protests on LIVE TV. this is a huge development in all reality, since she was so adamant on remaining anonymous to avoid criticism at school and at home. but she took that risk for khalil, for the people around her, and herself. while kahlil's death is the driving point of this story development, it's the events following it that make this plot really stand out to me. the perspective from the media, the police, the privileged, and the oppressed. and although i liked the message, i wish these concepts were explored more.

and please, let's not forget that this is a reality for many. this happens. fiction stems from reality, and speaks on it. we are born the same, and we die the same.

but i think project takes the cake because it's what got me really into jhin as a character since i started playing league during the 2017 project event,,, and i was like,, oh this guys pretty cool,,, and played him...

just with the knowledge that despite all of his,, personality fragmentation he still has a need for high-clearance upgrades just makes me giggle because he's so predictable LMAO. despite everything he still needs those upgrades constantly huh. just imagining him going from some random black-market guy to...well... Jhin is really funny to me because imagine how many of these botched upgrades he really has installed. yeah no wonder he ended up the way he did lmao. even in the story all he really cares about is the upgrade that vi/vayne has!!

also this is my favourite part of the story if you were curious (of course you were!) :

because he knows he was once a man, simple and human, but he also most likely knows he lost himself a long long time ago and there wont be any coming back from anything hes done hes so chill with it all i wish i was as chill as him omg... also he just looks neat...

especially his icon it looks very silly and cool
