1796 Heavy cavalry troopers sword by Dawes in original configuration (although the grip leather has been replaced).
When Major John Gaspard Le Marchant, proposed his new cavalry sabre design with his system of mounted swordsmanship; his intention was for his new sabre to be the universal sabre for the British cavalry (a concept that was 60 years ahead of it's time).
And while his sword was accepted as the 1796 Pattern light cavalry sabre, the officers of the heavy cavalry insisted on a straight bladed design. Falling back on his experiences with the Austrian cavalry in the Low Countries campaign (1793-95) he suggested a sword that was an almost direct copy of their model 1769 pallasch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While an effective cutting sword, the hatchet tip of the 1796 HC, was not suitable for thrusting and in service these were often re-profiled to have a spear tip. Other changes included removing the langets and narrowing the guard on the inside to prevent wear on the uniform while wearing.
Like it's light cavalry counterpart, the 1796 Pattern sword was also exported to Britain's allies; Portugal and Sweden during the Napoleonic wars.

On this most notable of days, I am reminded of the Mount & Blade Napoleonic Wars multiplayer server that I used to play on that had a 9/11 map in the mix
one team spawned in a tower, the other team in a plane fuselage that was halfway stuck in the building
The inside of the tower was 3-5 floors with huge ramps connecting them, and the control point was on the middle floor
if anyone has screenshots please add them, I'm gonna dig through my old hard drive when I'm home

Title: Tainted Love Author: 1016anon Fandom: Bridgerton Pairing: Anthony Bridgerton/Kate Sharma
-5-
"You're lucky," Kate said, running her thumb along the knife's edge, "that they tried to stab your heart.  You'd be dead if they'd went for your throat."
She briefly touched the point of the knife, then set it down.  It was a kitchen knife-- the cook had confirmed  it, face ruddy with tears.  There was a drawer, apparently, with two or three of similarly dull knives set aside to be sharpened.
His Lordship had them sent to the blacksmith over in the next town, she'd said through great sobs.
Kate had merely nodded her head-- Benedict supposed it had been within her purview as Lady of the House.  He was not surprised to hear that it had actually been Anthony who'd decided to outsource the sharpening to a blacksmith, rather than have some hapless boy ruin the knives on a whetstone.  He'd set it up after their father had died and their mother was depressed, unable to keep up her duties as lady of the house.
"Why is this relevant?" he snapped, angry and fearful with a mounting headache from the adrenaline comedown.
Kate ignored him.
"You're sure you didn't see anyone?  You don't remember anything about your attacker?"
"No!  For the fiftieth time, no!  I didn't see anything, I was a bit busy fighting them off!"
"Is this really necessary?" Violet asked sharply, running a comforting hand over his forehead.
She had been hysterical when she saw Benedict, shirt torn and blood down his front, clutching his chest.  His mother's utter incompetence in a crisis revealed itself once more-- she frantically yelled nonsense he couldn't decipher, and managed to make them both stumble and fall in the hallway, Benedict screaming in pain, Violet screaming in panic, the entire house now awake and the only person with a level head had been Kate.
Orders were swiftly issued: the men to carry him to the nearest bedroom; the servants to bring things to clean his wounds and bandage them; the surgeon called for; Colin and Gregory to restrain Violet who was clinging to Benedict and generally getting in the way; Hyacinth to fetch smelling salts; Eloise to stay with Benedict, find some way to distract or calm him until the surgeon arrived; Daphne to receive the constable.
Kate disappeared for a moment to lock Benedict's room and secure the scene of the crime.  It hadn't occurred to any of them to do so, but they were glad she'd had the presence of mind to think of it.  The constable had been both very impressed and very suspicious-- it would have been the perfect opportunity to do something like remove the weapon of the attempted murder.
However, she had four witnesses: Mrs. Gilford, who'd found the sight ghastly and was ordering some maids to remove the bedsheets; the two maids who were in the middle of entering the room to remove said bedsheets; and Hyacinth, who'd passing by, smelling salts in hand.  All four attested to the fact that Kate simply ordered the two maids out before they'd had a chance to disturb anything, told Mrs. Gilford to close and lock the door, then helped a distressed, crying Hyacinth back to Violet.
Benedict honestly didn't remember much.  According to the surgeon, the knife hadn't inflicted too grievous a wound-- whoever had tried to murder him must have been under the impression that the heart was not protected by a cage of bone.  That, combined with the relatively dullness of the knife (Benedict thought it had been plenty sharp) meant it hadn't had a chance to pierce anything too deeply (the surgeon had served in the Napoleonic Wars.  Anything short of an amputation was "not too deeply").
The mess of blood was actually from Benedict struggling, which meant the blade had left all sorts of cuts along his chest.  The greatest threat to his life now was infection, which the surgeon took very, very seriously, issuing all sorts of warnings and subjecting the family to extremely unwelcome, unnecessarily graphic descriptions of healthy, hale soldiers dying in the fever of delirium thanks to what they had deemed 'inconsequential wounds.'  It was exactly what Benedict did not want to hear, which was probably why the surgeon said it.
However, it also caused Violet to break down into yet another fit of hysterics; Colin and Gregory both looked extremely green around the gills; Hyacinth began crying; Eloise, then Daphne had to excuse themselves in the middle of it all-- Eloise nearly threw up, Daphne nearly fainted.  Fran stayed, wide-eyed but attentive and wiping Benedict's brow.  Kate stood by his bedside, nodding along.
The constable, also looking extremely green about the gills but refusing to retreat because he had been bragging about the types of crimes he'd had to investigate while living in Birmingham, took up his questioning of Benedict with zeal.  He left Aubrey Hall, stomping into the rain which had become a downpour, totally unsatisfied with Benedict's lack of coherent answers.
Benedict understood-- in theory-- why Kate was questioning him again.  Now that he'd had a moment to calm down, some details had come back to him, as fuzzy and incomplete as they were.  He'd been able to tell her that his attacker hadn't put of much of a fight, choosing to flee once Benedict disarmed them.
He initially thought it must be a man, but when pressed, he couldn't pin down why he'd made that assumption.  It didn't seem like a crime a woman would commit, but that was his only reason.  He hadn't managed to really get a hand on the person, who waved the knife around-- that combined with the dark made it difficult for Benedict to do anything but react in panic.  "Disarming" was a bit of a misnomer-- it was pure luck that he'd managed to get the attacker to drop the knife.
Did he remember anything about scent, height, maybe even hair?
No, no, and no.  Scent of blood, maybe.  The knife made the attacker seem taller.  He had not noticed hair, had only focused on the hand holding the knife.
Tread of footsteps?  Did they cry out?
He was a bit busy crying himself, and he hadn't heard over his own screaming.
And so on.
But now he was exhausted, in pain, and terrified.  More than that, he felt strangely hurt.  Kate was so focused on digging facts from Benedict's shredded memory that he felt like she had shut herself away in a tower of logic.  Her eyes held calculation, not comfort.
"You're surprisingly resistant to finding your son's attacker, Violet," Kate said mildly.
Gods above, he missed Anthony.
In his absence, Benedict leaned into his mother's touch, grateful for her warm reassurance.
"You were there when he spoke to the constable, Kate," Colin said.  "There's nothing more to be gained by asking him the same questions so many times."
"And surely, we shall all feel better and remember more after we've all had some time to rest," Daphne added, ever the peacemaker and eager to take control of the situation.
Now that the family was somewhat calmer and Benedict clear of harm, his sister's Duchess of Hastings mannerisms reappeared-- mannerisms which grated at Benedict.  The rest of the family, however, seemed relieved Daphne was reasserting herself.  Despite the years Kate had been a part of the family, without Anthony to tether her to them, his mother and siblings would always consider her an outsider-- perhaps even an interloper.
It was times like these that they all acutely felt Anthony's absence.  Murderer or no, he had been the indisputable head of the Bridgerton House, the cornerstone of their family.
Benedict didn't have the energy to try to defend Kate against his family.  The only thing he could do was stare at the ceiling, doing his best not to remember the abject terror he'd felt in those brief moments when time seemed to come to a halt.
She was fighting for Benedict in her own way-- he knew this.  She was fighting for him the same way Anthony would have fought for him: with vengeance.  But his mind shied away from the Pandora's Box now lodged firmly in his brain.
He heard her footsteps and she sat at the edge of his bed.  Kate took a long look at him, her face intense in its focus-- so much like Anthony.
"Very well," she nodded and took his hand.  "I suppose it can wait until morning."
--
"So.  Constable."
The countryside will be restful, his wife had said.  Fresh air and good for your health, his wife had said.  A place to start a family, she'd said.
They should have stayed in Birmingham.
"If you answer all my questions truthfully-- and rest assured, I'll be able to tell-- I'll allow you to live.  And, to show you I will make good on my promise, I'll even let you keep one of your eyes."
Before he knew it, Bill was blind in one eye.  Blood and ocular fluid dripped from his eye socket, a thick texture he'd never felt before.  But what was most horrifying was how much it didn't hurt-- only the twitching of fine muscles trying to blink made him aware that something was wrong.
"Yes.  People are always surprised by that.  Now remember, if you want to keep your other eye, you'll answer truthfully, even if you think I won't like the answer."
Bill yelled as loudly as he could-- gathered as much air into him and bellowed-- as soon as the gag was removed.
Elbow to his face, breaking his nose.
"This will go much more quickly if you cooperate.  If you start screaming or begging, I will cut out your tongue, stuff your mouth with rocks, sew your lips shut, and keep you here while I go take care of my business.  Then when I'm done, I'll come back and the real pain will begin.  Are we clear?"
He didn't dare breathe, but couldn't bring himself to nod.
"If you need even more incentive, I'll go to your house, burn your wife's parents alive in that lovely little place you have in town, bring your wife here to you, and-- did you know she's pregnant?"
Bill whimpered, not trusting himself to speak.  He didn't love his wife, not like everyone in these parts said Lord Bridgerton had been in love with Lady Kate.  Most days, he could barely stand her, but they'd both wanted a family--
"So, I will ask once more, and only once more: Are. we. clear."
"Yes," he croaked.
"Good.  Now,"
The wind should have been whistling, blowing in with these kinds of storm-rich clouds.  But there was only pounding rain, darkness, and Bill tied to a chair.
"Tell me where everyone said they were."
He opened his mouth to speak but only coughed, throat dry and the taste of old blood coating his tongue.
"They all lied, one way or another," voice hoarse.
"It doesn't matter.  Start with the youngest-- Hyacinth."
"Abed.  Said she didn't hear anything unusual, woke up when she heard Lord Benedict scream."
"And the lie?"
"She looked to the side when she said she didn't hear anything."
"Do you think she tried to murder Benedict?"
"No.  But she knows something.  Too eager to make me believe her."
Pensive silence.  Bill wanted to yell for help again, but the idle sway of the knife held his tongue.
"Gregory."
"Abed," he grunted.  "Shook like a leaf when I questioned him, sweating and stuttering.  But it weren't him-- he's got the look of a squealer."
"A what?"
"Squealer.  Someone who got in too deep, regrets it, wants out."
"Any guesses as to what?"
Bill shrugged and regretted the motion immediately.  He'd somehow managed to forget about his dislocated shoulder.
"Either a woman or gambling-- I'd wager gambling.  Would give him a motive for wanting Lord Benedict out of the picture.  Miss Eloise said he and Mr. Colin have been spending a lot of time together."
"Francesca."
He searched his memory, not sure which of the ladies she was.  There were too many of them and they all looked the same.
"Lighter hair, rounded face."
Right, that one.
"Said she was abed and didn't know anything.  She's telling the truth she doesn't know anything, but she wasn't abed."
"How do you know?"
"Said she heard a door open and close in the middle of the night, tried to backtrack and say she's a light sleeper."
"Why do you think she lied?"
"The young Miss didn't want me to become suspicious, I think.  It happens all the time-- she figured I would have made her the number one suspect if she said she'd been awake."
"Do you think she's capable of murder?"
"Everyone's capable of murder, if you give them reason and opportunity," he winced.  He really needed to remember not to move his arms.  "I think maybe someone, but not her brother.  And if she did, she would have done it sideways though-- poison, or the like."
"True," a pause.  "You're very good at your job."
Bill didn't know what to say to that.
"It almost makes me regret blinding you in one eye.  But needs must, you understand."
He did not understand, but knew better than to answer.
"Eloise-- the other dark haired one."
"She said she was up reading all night, said it's not unusual for her.  Heard the door open and close-- looked to see who and said it was a lady with a candle and a pink shawl."
"Did she say she knew who it was?"
Narrow, thunderous eyes pinning him down.
"The Miss said she didn't know, but she was lying about that."  Couldn't help himself:  "Family full of liars, you Bridgertons."
A laugh of menacing happiness, the kind which reveled in graveyards and crypts.
"And I the biggest liar among them.  Was she lying to protect or lying to implicate?"
"She looked like she felt guilty about something.  Wouldn't stop talking though, got worked up and told me just because she had a famous murderer brother didn't mean everyone else in the family was one."
"Famous murderer brother," an amused huff.
"Said I should question the staff instead."
"We'll get to the staff later.  What did Daphne say."
His mind drew a blank.
"She probably introduced herself as the Duchess of Hasting."
"Abed-- didn't hear anything that night but she's caught wind of the killings in Kent and the rumors going around.  Said it must be the same person."
"So certain that it was a person, was she."
"The Duchess seemed embarrassed by the word 'ghost' when I asked."
"Typical."
"You don't have much affection for any of them."
"Like you said, they're all liars and cheats."
"The last one, Mr. Colin.  He said he was asleep, but he stands to gain the most if Lord Benedict died, and in all my years as a copper, money's always been a good motivator for murder."
"Then he's at the top of your list, I take it."
"Among the family.  Have a few contenders in the servants also, especially the ones who don't like the--"
"Don't say her name.  You haven't earned the privilege."
That voice-- it wasn't a voice, it wasn't even a sound.  Just a deep, vicious snarl which shook Bill's very bones.  The rumble of a predator closing in on prey, followed by a sneer and deadly chill which would have made Bill lose control of his bowels if that gaze had stayed focused on him.
"Violet.  Where was she."
It was not a question.
"In her rooms," Bill swallowed convulsively.  "She said she didn't notice anything that night.  And she was still hysterical when I got to the house, so I'm inclined to believe her."
That terrible smile reappeared.
"Well, well, well.  The truth comes out, doesn't it."
Bill looked nervously at the knife.
"The sabotaged carriage, the attempted kidnapping-- all those other little incidents which I know you knew of," knife held right under his chin.  "Who paid you to look the other way?"
"I don't--"
"I'd consider my answer very carefully, if I were you."
The knife, unlike the kitchen knives, was sharp.
The kind of sharpness which, a slight adjustment of pressure would drive the blade through Bill's chin into the roof of his mouth.
"She just wanted to scare her," Bill's voice trembled.
This was where he had to trust in the nonexistent honor of murderers.
"So they all said."
"She said she wanted the-- the lady to leave Aubrey Hall.  Leave England, go back to India.  That's all she wanted."
"Why does Benedict's near-murder justify investigation, but Kate's didn't?"
The tip of the knife was digging in, breaking one layer, then two, then three layers of skin.
"Anthony," Lady Kate put her hand on the ghost's arm.  "Let him go."
"Kate, he would have left you for dead because my mother bought him out."
"We promised."
"Oh, but that's the beauty of being husband and wife, my darling."
The knife traveled, inch by terrible inch, through Bill's jaw, through his tongue, until the ghost slammed it in, embedding it in bone, in the roof of his mouth, Bill screaming but unable to open his mouth, his tongue cutting itself to shreds.
"You promised."
The ghost wrenched the knife sideways, sawing through bone and gums and ripping out teeth.
"I never did."
--
I suppose it can wait until morning.
Morning never came.
Dawn may have come, the sun may have risen, Benedict may have woken up after a sleep made of nightmares, he may have overruled the protests of his mother and Daphne to have breakfast with the family, the rain may have stopped to leave an overcast sky, everyone might have been nervous and jumpy all day, everyone might have been twitching at the slightest sound.
The overcast sky transformed to dark, oppressive clouds which should have carried lightning and thunder, but only brought the terrifying expectation of it.  The house felt like it kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the first strike.
But lightning never came.
Because that afternoon-- the house went cold, like a black veil wove through the very air.  The candlelight vanished, the fires were put out and everything descended into a silent, unnatural darkness where the long, ominous shadows had no source of light to cast them.  Benedict tried to light candles, but only one caught flame.  The wood in the fireplace was soaked through.
When a crack of thunder shook the foundations of the house, everything plunged into complete darkness.
--
You're an idiot.
You love me anyway.
She didn't try to kill Benedict, you know.
I know.  Like I said, my family's full of liars and cheats.
You came back to me.
Of course I did.  I'll always come back for you.
Anthony kissed her, and the world was as it should always be.
Ready, my darling?
Yes.
She took his hand.
He pulled the stiletto knives out of her hair.
I love you.

Tonight we had a last event at the Napoleonic Roleplay server as Holdfast: Nations at war is releasing tomorrow.
We had a bit of everything -  Naval RP, Russian revolution, cavalry vs infantry, Line battle and finally Waterloo. At the end we had a group photo of everyone present
I will miss NW but Holdfast is on a much newer engine so new features will be available.

At the turn of the 19th Century, Northern and Southern Netherlands had been occupied by French revolutionary 'Liberation' forces and in 1806 Napoleon made the occupation official by proclaiming his brother, Louis the king of Holland. In 1810 the kingdom was abolished and integrated into the French Empire.
As part of the French Empire, Dutch forces participated in several battles, including the invasion of Russia (1812) and the defeat at the battle of Leipzig (1813). Which resulted in the withdrawal of France from the Netherlands.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in November 1813 under King William I to act as a buffer at France's Northern border. The southern region was incorporated in August 1814 with official unification finalised in March 1815. Although this unification was short-lived, with the succession of Belgium in 1831.
Newly independent the young Kingdom quickly set about the business of raising a new army to protect itself with. Raising a lot of infantry, and foot artillery, several units of horse artillery a transport battalion and four regiments of cavalry. Two regiments of heavy 'shock' cavalry and two light cavalry for reconnaissance and pursuit.
While there was no lack of volunteers, with veterans from the Napoleonic wars filling the ranks, weapons were in short supply. Naturally, significant material had been left by the French, but further orders for weapons were placed with the British, Belgium and Germany to arm the heavy cavalry, light cavalry, horse artillery and transport units.
This cumulated in three new sword designs for the Dutch cavalry, the m1814 No.3 (HC.3) for the heavy cavalry, the m1813 No.1 (LC.1) and the m1813 No.2 (LC.2) for the light cavalry, mounted artillery and transport units. While the HC.3 and the LC.2 were new models clearly inspired by earlier French designs. The m1813 No.1 was the British pattern 1796 light cavalry sabre, designed by John Gaspard Le Marchant.
The first order for these swords was placed directly from Britain and began to arrive by the end of 1813. Based on the markings on the swords in collections, many can be dated back to 1811, indicating that they came directly out of existing stocks to be sold to The Netherlands. It is possible that the speed of delivery was an attractive option as a 'stop-gap' measure while other swords were being produced.
Regardless, The Netherlands placed more orders for LC.1s between 1814 and 1819, but this time they turned to the sword makers John und Abm Schimmelbusch & Sohn, A Schimmelbusch & Co, Schnitzler & Kirschbaum and the Weyersberg brothers of Solingen.
In 1829 the LC.1 was officially replaced with the introduction of the Light Cavalry Sword No.3 (m1814 No.3) but many remained in service and were re-issued to the Mounted Jaegers who retained them as long as 1851.
In 1881 this sword along with hundreds like it were turned over from the Artillery Depot in Brielle to the Rijksmuseum and put on display in the hall of trophies in the Eastern Courtyard, there they remained until the end of the Second World War when they were cleaned and placed in storage.
This sword is marked along the back of the spin with I.Gill, believed to be John Gill (often people used the Latin version of their name, hence the I instead of the J). John Gill, a son of the famous Thomas Gill, took over the business when his father died in 1801. On the blade there is the Crown over 8 British ordinance stamp.
Further stamps include the Dutch Crown over V inspection stamps on the langet, furrell and scabbard drag. The crossguard has two unit markings, 100 on top of the knuckle bow for the original regimental sword number and J 365 under the quillion, added when the sword was re-issued to the Jaegers de Paard or 'Hunters on Horse'.
Unfortunately, the scabbard belongs to sword number J 43 and it is likely that this miss-match occurred when the museum collection was cleaned and placed into permanent storage.
Overall Length: 945 mm
Blade Length: 820 mm
Grip Length: 115 mm
Inside Grip Length: 100 mm
Weight: 880 grams
Total Weight (inc. scabbard): 1,910 grams
Point of Balance: 190 mm

The Emperor’s Daughter in Wonderland
This is an IkeVamp/IkeRev crossover inspired by this post... I couldn’t resist myself.
I had this long note (this is still long though) about how I lost confidence because I read the notes on the original post and I thought I skipped over some huge points with the armies growing suspicious and some other things. Like there wouldn’t have been any real plot holes or anything but I still panicked for a moment (cause I thought people wouldn’t like what I wrote). But to sum up I think I fixed it and basically I focused more on the MC/Reader being the daughter of a suitor and the ‘it all goes down hill from there’ part of the original post - letting MC have the spot light because of that...And I also still tried to sprinkle in some general suitor romance (not a lot though cause it wasn’t the main focus) There are some dad!Napoleon moments too cause who doesn’t like it when the residents are dads
Still I hope who ever reads this still likes it! (Sorry if this isn’t good and I hyped you up for nothing...)
Warning(s): Descriptions of violence, injures, blood, roughly 5 swear words and potential OOCness because I haven’t finished all the IkeRev routes nor am I fully confident in writing Napo’s character...
~~~
Call it what you’d like, Napoleon could tell something was going to happen.
Maybe it was just his protective fatherly side coming out for all to see, she is the only remaining family member he has left, his wife (her mother) gone along with his human life, but the ex-emperor knows better.
It’s a gut feeling, something will happen.
The screech of Jupiter, who sat perched on a tree branch not too far away, alerted him that someone was coming. Looking over his shoulder towards the entrance of the mansion, out walked his daughter, satchel and coat in hand, a smile on her face.
“Finished saying goodbye?” Napoleon asked, stepping back from the horse he was petting. (Y/N) nodded, attaching the bag to the saddle of the horse.
“Yeah. Supposedly they’re all going to miss me? I don’t know why though. Even old man Leo said something about how ‘the passerotta is finally leaving the nest’.” she sighed, exasperated at the nickname the renaissance man used.
“What have I told you about calling him that?” Her father asked, raising a brow. She turned from the animal to face him.
“To not to?” Napoleon nodded.
“Right.”
“So I can call Comte ‘old man’ but not Leo?” she asked, raising a brow.
“Exactly.” he smirked and she couldn’t help but sigh again, shaking her head.
“You don’t make sense sometimes you know that?” Chuckling, Napoleon mussed up her hair, his way of showing her affection. It wasn’t as jovial as it usually was though, or relaxed for that matter, and (Y/N) picked up on it quickly.
“Stop worrying. Remember, I had you and Uncle Jean teach me how to protect myself. Nothing is going to happen to me...” her attempt to ease her father’s anxieties didn’t go unnoticed, but it also didn’t help that much.
“I’d feel better if you brought your rapier...”
“I would, really, but I don’t think the townspeople would take too kindly to me having it. It doesn’t help that I’m a woman either, because, you know...”
“I know... Just, be careful” Had it not been for the way his jade green eyes stared at her, waiting for her to promise that she’d come home in one piece, (Y/N) may have laughed at the way he was acting. It was uncommon to see this underlining anxiousness in his expression. Usually when she was going out he was laid back, dropping the parting words of ‘be safe’ before going on as usual It sounded a little cold but he trusted in her to make the right choices.
But this time he told her to be careful. Not safe, careful. In a roundabout way it was a sign that he cared and worried for her and didn’t want anything to harm her.
It also showed that something really had him on edge about her trip to London. The best thing to do though is to give him what he wants, which is reassurance.
“I’m only getting ink for Uncle Arthur, but if it eases your mind, I promise to be careful.”
“Thank you.” he mumbled, “Do you have enough Rouge?”
“What did I say about not worrying?” The look he gave her told her to just tell him, “Oui, I do. I even packed more than needed just in case. You never know when your thirst can suddenly be stronger than usual.”
“How much is more exactly?”
“I’m bringing eleven. If I drink half a day every other day I’d have enough for about a mouth plus some”
“I know I said to be prepared but you really are an overachiever sometimes you know that?”
“Oui oui, I’m aware! Au revivor papa, I’ll see you in a week, alright?” With a smile, the two shared a parting goodbye hug, (Y/N) mounting the awaiting horse. A kick of her foot and she was off at a gallop, waving back one last time before disappearing over the horizon.
The dread in the pit of Napoleon’s stomach didn’t cease, even as he went back into the manor, and when the time was right, it’d be revealed just why that feeling was there.
~
“Damn it...” Oddly enough, in some form of twisted fate, the rapier that she left at home would’ve been beneficial in that moment.
Honestly, no one thought that she’d fall into some fantasy land, one on the brink of war, obtain the power to break magic spells and then get kidnapped with the intention to be eliminated. By a research center trying to take over the world for themselves no less.
Scrapes and bruises marked her entire body along with the stains of blood. She’s lost way more than humanly possible for her to still be standing, a large cut running down her arm and a rather deep puncture wound to her abdomen. Yet she continues to fight - she has to.
Landing a final punch to the last robed disciple, a pounding pain thrummed throughout her entire body, though the one that sourced from her mouth was by far the most painful.
“I-Ignore it...” she told herself, staggering over to a fallen man that was taken care of earlier in the fray of fists and magic. Unhooking the belt, she took the sword from him, stumbling up to one of the horses that the enemy rode in on.
The truth was she wasn’t doing too hot. Turns out, no matter how much you practice or how much stamina you have, deflecting magic attacks takes a lot out of you. On top of that she was exerting herself to defend herself, while bleeding, and it all amounts up to her being on the brink of unconsciousness.
“Why do you wield your blade?” A conversation she had with her father when she was younger came to mind as she leaned against a tree, the need to catch her breath too strong to brush off.
“Huh?”
“Why do you fight (Y/N)? What’s your reason?” Right... he asked that when she was younger, feeling like a failure for not being able to fight like her dad could. Having been so young she was nearly on the brink of tears, about to give up ever learning the art of the sword.
“T-to protect and save others...” was her frail answer. Her father smiled, liking that her heart was in the right place.
“Good. Now remember that when you’re about to give up. You can’t achieve that goal if you admit defeat.”
“O-okay! I won’t ever give up!”
“C’est ma fille...” he said patting her head.
Growing up surrounded by some of the greatest men in history came with it’s perks, a vast knowledge ranging from science thanks to Isaac all the way to piano lessons with Mozart are under her belt.
Though, if she had to choose, the greatest skill she acquired was how to protect the weak. How to raise a sword to save lives, never to take if at all possible.
Her new found friends will die if she doesn’t move now.
“Merci papa...” she whispered, finding the strength to push herself upright once more. Climbing onto the back of the horse a new, burning determination filled her.
She will save those that have found a place in her heart and, when everything’s said and done, return home to her awaiting family.
~
By time the clearing to the Central Quarter came into view the sun had just started to set, bathing her surroundings in an orange glow. The closer she got to the opening the more she was able to make out, yet the sight wasn’t an uplifting one.
The Chosen Thirteen from both sides lay beaten on the cobblestone ground, exhausted and beat up. Even the kings, strongest among them all, struggled to get back on their feet. Lancelot sat against a wall while Ray was at the foot of the man behind everything - Amon Jabberwock. The other officers weren’t any better, most struggling to grasp their weapons but too drained to do so.
And in the hands of Amon was a bigger than normal magic crystal, the glow emitting off of it bright, its spell nearly cast.
The sight only fueled the adrenaline that coursed through her veins.
Drawing her blade from its sheath, she was ready to face any foe that may hinder her in helping bring peace to Cradle. Aligning the course the horse is to take, (Y/N) let go of the reins, her voice ringing out.
“Ray, move!”
The King of Spades did as commanded, rolling back and out of the line path of the stallion. Leaping from it, she barely landed on her feet, the hand free of anything outstretched. Instantly the harsh glow subsided, the gem now nothing more than a useless rock.
The call of her name mixed with gasps of surprise, and perhaps relief, fell on deaf ears, her (e/c) eyes focused on one man and one man alone. Sweeping his legs out from under him, Amon dropped to his hands and knees, the tip of her rapier pressed against his neck.
“Amon Jabberwock-!” her voice echoed with power and authority, a cold look in her eye.
Admittedly, it shocked those around her, no clues given during her stay that would allude to her having this hidden side. But the sight of her standing there, a will to fight in her eye, even as copious amounts of blood poured out of her, was astonishing and uplifting enough to repair their morale.
And had the residents of the mansion been here to hear and see her, they would've remarked how similar it felt to her father when he faced his foes.
“As a temporary member of the Black and Red Army, I hereby arrest you on the count of treason against the country of Cradle!”
“H-How...?” Amon stuttered, voice laced with anger and on the brink of snapping further into madness, “you should be dead with those wounds!”
A weak, almost pained sounding laugh left her lips as she pushed the blade a little harder, lips parting, “I’m nothing like the others...”
“Monster...” he gasped, fear in his eyes as he unsuccessfully tried to scoot away from her. By the way he acted, she could tell that he caught sight of the pointed teeth in her mouth.
“Mm... in a way, maybe I am...”
“You won’t kill me!” The way his voice shook made it sound like he was trying to convince her to not slit this throat right there and now. Fortunately for him, she wasn’t that kind of person.
“While it’s true that I shouldn’t raise my sword like I am now unless I am willing to take the life that’s in my hands, you would be right, I won’t be ending your life. I learned all I know from my father, one of which was to never take a life, for fear it turns out I can’t live with the consequences. That doesn’t mean I won’t beat you and bring peace to Wonderland” Refusing to let another word be uttered from him, (Y/N) swiftly butted the hilt of the sword to his neck, knocking him out.
“There she is!”
“Lord Amon!” Shouted more robed men from behind. The disciples reached for, presumably, magic crystals from their pockets but stopped at something she said, the saber pointed their way.
“You can fight me, but I just took down your leader. If you chose to fight me just know that I do not fall easily and I will fight till the bitter end for what is right... So, what will you do?”
“C-crud, let’s get out of here! I’m not chancing it!” Her words reached them and made it clear that they didn’t stand to win. So, scouring away, the enemy tucked tail and ran.
“Seems you’re all still alive...” She breathed, turning around to face the army soldiers. All of them smiled at her, glad that she was alright (for the most part) and that this war was over.
Yet life is no fairy tale, something tragic usually hits in the best of times like these. Wise words from a guy who’s not all there (thanks Shakespeare).
She saw it before the words reached her ears and the next moments were a blur of colour.
Someone from the shadows raised a sword of their own, the blade about to pierce the one person dearest to her, the one that stole her heart while in this new, unfamiliar world. He was unguarded with nothing to defend himself, about to die should she just stand there and not take action.
Mustering the last bit of energy she had, she parried the attack, the sound of steel on steel ringing in the still evening. The clash lasted less than a minute, the lesser vampire the one to be impaled, unable to block the second strike. Still, if she was to die, he would go down with her at least.
No, she didn’t kill the attacker, merely used all she had to stab him in the leg, bringing him to the ground, the force and angle of the impact rendering him unconscious.
No one said anything, their minds unable to full register the events that just transpired. The pained words of their friend snapped them out though and all eyes went to her.
“I-I’m glad yo-ou’re safe...” she wheezed, eyes meeting the ones of the man she loves. A sense of calmness overcame her, he was safe, he would live. Maybe, just maybe, she could die a peaceful death knowing that she was able to protect the one she cares about. Her duty was fulfilled.
The only regret she’d bear would be the regret of being unable to say goodbye properly, both to the ones around her and the ones ignorant of what’s going on, as they await her return back in the Land of Reason.
Something that seemingly won’t be happening now...
This was her bittersweet end.
.
..
….
…..
A sharp intake of air. Vision blurry. The smell of antiseptic chemicals and whisky. These invaded her being and briefly, when she was able to at least think, she thought that this was a weird form of Heaven or Hell to be put into.
Though when her sight cleared up some more it was revealed that, no, she wasn’t in an abstract afterlife, she was just in Kyle’s infirmary.
(Y/N) laid in that oddly comfortable bed for what felt like hours, which were really only minutes, before she found the strength to sit up, if only a little.
A slip of pink paper which rested on the nightstand caught her eye. Picking it up she read the note, relaying that, if she was to wake up, that everyone wanted to let her know that the war is truly over and that her boyfriend was safe, all thanks to her. A breath she didn’t know she was holding was finally let free, muscles relaxing.
It was some form of a miracle that allowed her to still be here, like the world was telling her it wasn’t time for her to leave just yet. Not that she was complaining or anything, but she couldn’t help the giggle that came with the thought that the similarities between her and her dad are starting to get weird.
The click of the door pulled her from her funny thought, and in walked the last face she saw before blacking out. He really was okay, just like the note said.
“We have to talk”
“We do, don’t we.” she smiled and he returned it, pulling up a chair. For the rest of the day (assuming based on the light that poured in through the window) the two lovers talked, expressing how glad they were that the other was okay, what happened after she collapsed and what their next steps would be. When everything was done, her boyfriend climbed into the bed with her, mindful of the injuries around her whole body, and with such gentleness pulled her flush against his chest.
That evening they slept in each other’s arms, calmed by the sound of their mixed breathing and heartbeats, because later that night they’ll have to part again.
~
“Tell me again what you are?” Kyle rubbed his temple, trying his hardest to wrap his head around her claim. The hangover he had wasn’t helping in this situation either.
“I’m a vampire, a lesser vampire to be more exact”
“I get that, but what is that?”
“Don’t worry too much about it, just know that if I was to bite you you wouldn’t turn and I’m not immortal. Now go drink some water. Can’t believe magic is a thing yet you’d get hung up on mythology...” she muttered the last part, shaking her head in disbelief.
“I would just like to go on record and say I knew all along” Edgar piped up, his usual innocent smile on his face. Zero and Jonah scoffed.
“And how did you exactly?” Zero asked his teacher. The Jack of Hearts smiled just a little wider, fetching something from his pocket. The glass glittered in the moonlight.
“So that’s where my last bottle went! You had it!”
“Indeed. You did well to hide it Alice, but not well enough if I was able to find it”
“Why do you have it anyway?”
“I saw our dear Alice drinking it one day. She told me it was wine but by the viscosity I could tell she was lying. It also smelt like blood. So, I did some digging around her room while she was gone.”
“Of course, only you would be able to smell it and instantly recognize it like that...” Jonah hissed under his breath. The statement went unheard by all except the subject of the comment, who simply continued to smile like he heard nothing.
“That would explain why ya sometimes left the training grounds all of a sudden too when someone got hurt” Fenrir pointed out, the Black Army nodding along.
“We just thought you were squeamish...” Luka mumbled.
“That would also explain the report I got saying we had a shortage of blood...” Lancelot spoke up, staring down at (Y/N).
“I... got hungry and didn’t have enough?” she shrugged, a nervous smile on her face while averting her eyes to the side. Really, it was half a lie, she was hungry. It was just that the liquid was right there at the time and it’s scent was so sweet to her - she couldn’t help herself!
“But,” the King of Hearts continued, a small, soft smile blooming on his face, “I’m willing to pardon it, you did save us all. So, thank you, for all you’ve done. Is there anything you’d like as a reward?”
“I’m honored King Lancelot, but right now I think I have to go home. There are some people that are no doubt missing me.”
“Very well. Then you are welcomed back at the Red Army anytime”
“The Black Army will welcome you too, little lady” Sirius added, Ray nodding in approval.
“Right, the room you used will be waiting for you should you ever come back”
“Ohhhh please come back Alice, the Black Army just won’t be the same without you!” Seth whined dramatically.
“Thank you... all of you” (Y/N) gave a closed eye smile, the light of the moon illuminating behind her. A hand suddenly cupped her cheek, the contact warm and prompting her to open her eyes.
“I will see you again right?” he asked, low enough that only the two of them could hear it.
“Yes, just as we promised last night.” she whispered back, leaning in for a kiss, one he returned.
The rabbit hole that connected their worlds opened up, a spotlight like light shining onto it. Pulling away her hand clutched the bag she came with, along with the items she’s obtained, and she turned one last time. Her eyes roamed over each face a final time, stopping on his.
“See you later everyone!” A chorus of goodbyes paired with waves and she stepped backwards, falling down, down, down the hole like she did just one short month ago.
~
“The man at the stall said he saw her here one night, there must be a clue.” Napoleon stated, eyes hard with determination, certain that there has to be something here linking to his missing daughter. Deep down though he’s consumed with emotion, anger, fear and a great sadness.
Anger at himself, he should’ve been more persistent with her taking her rapier. Then maybe this wouldn’t have happened.
The fear and sadness are a mix of the same reason, he’s sad and afraid that he’ll never see her again, that he’s lost her even after promising to protect her from the moment she was born.
And yet, as the third week of having nothing he’s starting to lose hope, and the others can tell.
“Napoleon...” Jean whispered, placing a firm hand on the man’s shoulder. “I think it’s time to head back to the inn...”
He wants to stay out longer, search every nook and cranny of this damn park a thousand times more.
“Jean’s right...” Isaac added, tilting his head and gesturing with it in the direction of where they’re staying, “we can look some more in the morning if you want.”
“Maybe you’re right...” the Demi-vampire sighed, beginning his slow, reluctant trudge to the cozy London inn.
“Oof! Ow, I guess it’s a bumpy landing on the way back too...” the three heard the thud and rustle before the voice, but Napoleon was already sprinting in its direction.
“(Y/N)!?” The call of her name erased the pain of the landing and any other insignificant thought, her eyes darting around through the trees.
“Dad!?” She shouted back. An urgency to her father again surged through her.
He sped faster, urged on by the sound of her voice. It’s her, he knows it is, and she’s alive.
Emerging from behind a tree Napoleon comes to a grounding halt, eyes wide at the sight in front of him. She’s there, right there, albeit a little banged up, but she’s safe - that’s all that matters.
Rushing up he engulfs her in a hug, loosening it only minimally when she let out a hiss of pain.
“Where have you been? Who hurt you?” his questions are rushed, breathless as he looks her over, the amount of bandages on her alarming.
“You’ll never guess...” she suddenly smiled.
“What?” He questioned, the smile on her face making him believe that she wasn’t taking this seriously. Yet her next words shocked him, enough for a visible reaction to show, and it became obvious that the two would have to have a long, long chat.
“I fought in and won a revolution...and I protected the weak... just like I said I would...”
.
..
“Oh I also have a boyfriend...”
“You have a what???”
~
Fun fact: at first this was going to be the MC/Reader as Leo’s daughter and she would’ve fixed the Black Army’s stuff or Fenrir’s gun, impressing them, but!!! We all know that ~war~ is a thing in IkeRev, so behold here we are!
For the glorious Österreich Ostrichreich! Gott schütze die Strauße!
Can’t get this one done for so long. Probably after 365 series is complete I’ll overhaul and finish it. The premise was born from people playing Mount & Blade NW DLC to commonly refer to the Austrian faction as “ostriches”. I actually have the paper underdrawing for it hanging right in front of me, originally it was supposed to be in watercolour, but I can’t be bothered with that.
So what are my favorite games Part 1
So just to make things clear i haven been writing 1.because this is actually my second attempt at writing this i accidentally closed the tab the first time, uh and i only lost a few hours of work. and 2.because I’ve been working at my job a lot more frequently as of late. anyway, i could probably write an entire full length essay on all of these games but I’ll try to shorten things up, oh yeah uh some games on the list might not be that good, as I may include a game from my childhood that i have fond memories of, but maybe wasn’t as good as i remembered it, anyway its a top 10 so lets begin.
First of all id love to start with some outside looking in, all these games are incredible to me and i would love to put them in the top 10 but i couldn’t, if you want to hear my opinions on them (wow thanks, you actually care) you can ask me on twitter and ill do my best!
15.Sonic Generations                                                                                              14.Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege                                                                      13.Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum (Waterpark&Zoo DLC is amazing)                12.Splatoon 2 (specifically the Octo Expansion, that was really good)                    11.Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition (Def. edition because its portable with good FPS and the extra 3DS content)
OK then Ill get started now :3 Thanks a TON (and I mean it I appreciate amy support i get or constructive criticism) for reading it!
Number 10: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess                                              Developer and Release year: Nintendo, 2006/2016 remaster                                What it can be played on: Gamecube/Wii/Wii U                                                                                                                                                                                              The Legend of Zelda is my favorite game series of all time, thats obvious if you know anything about me, and twilight princess is one I’ve played more recently, and from the start you notice Twilight Princess is definitely going for that early 2000′s edgy tone (is that a coincidence or an actual trend, i dunno i was really young in 06 so...) which works fine, and its a really long game, I mean I spent a week or two beating it, that being said i had work and other things going on at the time, but any way it has been said by many more before me, that it is basically an edgy, long,Ocarina of Time remake with motion controls....and they aren’t wrong, though i have called it edgy but i think its more...dark i guess? any way i actually like this better than Ocarina of Time, before you assault me i loved Ocarina of Time, i just tried to put as few Zelda games on the list as i could, and i just enjoyed the Twilight Princess story, characters, and length a bit more, but back to the remake opinion, i sort of agree yeah, but i thought the mystery around Midna and Zant and the Twilight realm, and the mirror, were all something that sets it apart, so in the end i enjoyed it a lot.                                                                                                                                                                    Favorite Part(s)? Arbiters Grounds. AW MAN, I love the Arbiters grounds, the sneaking, the spinner, the boss, the setting, all of it is on point, even the wolf part is unique with the poe chasing, and also the Final Ganon boss I liked all of it, though his appearance is a bit late i thought it was a fun, long, and intense fight
Number 9: Lego Universe                                                                                      Developer and Release Year: NetDevil and Lego, 2010-2012                                What it COULD ( :( ) be played on: PC                                                                                                                                                                                                              IM GONNA GO AHEAD AND SAY IT THIS IS A PICK COMPLETELY ON NOSTALGIA. Yes, this is one of my favorite games of my childhood and since i cant go back and re-evaluate the game because it’s closed unfortunately (except for some server projects that are happening) I’m talking about it completely based on my memories. One reason I love it is, the game’s story and lore at the time captivated me so much that i decided to write stories about stuff my character(s) did, which basically kick-started my interest in writing, as bad as those stories were, I loved the game, I had it’s official LEGO set (Still do it’s a nice little orange rocket ship that could be used in-game) and convinced my cousins to play it too, and we all enjoyed it, now of course i was an MLGPROBOI at the game so I had rare pets and the best weapons and a RED PARROT GUYS (I believe it was super rare and a big deal) so I loved being really cool n’ stuff, people would ask me to help them take out Butterscorch (that was the hardest boss in the game, a purple dragon, BUT SINCE I WAS AN MLGPROBOI I COULD DO IT MYSELF BUT I WAS NICE SO I HELPED) and even sell them secrets on how to do stuff, yeah i was a cool guy, cant relate now, I’ll never be as cool as my alter-alias Square Von Pancake :(                                                                                                                                                                Favorite Part(s): Me and my brother played i t together all the time and we loved the combat at crux prime the most, Crux Prime was the place with the hardest enemies and bosses and it was really fun to be challenged for a while. plus though it was out for only a year we still have countless memories of it, and they added Ninjago in it which I was SUPER into at the time and enjoyed having my character do Ninjago stuff...
Number 8: Mount and Blade: Warband                                                                    Developer and Release Year: Taleworlds, 2010                                                      What it can be played on: PC, PS4, XB1                                                                                                                                                                                                      Mount and Blade Warband and its expansion Mount and Blade Napoleonic Wars, is one of my favorite multiplayer, and story games, the story mode is fun because you can do what you want, YOU choose the faction you fight with or not to at all, your class, your stats, and you can make some uh *beautiful* characters, the main story, i believe the objective is to become the emperor of Calradia, and rule the dang place and be rich and cool and have people like you, but I dont usually do that i just fight for factions, make money in the arena and at tournaments, and hire mercenaries and win against armies of 200 with like 30 people, its fun, now second talking point for me is the multiplayer, this is where Napoleonic Wars comes in, it is a fun shooter with muskets , or swords....or screw it you can play the bagpipes, that last one is totally not something me and my friends would do late at night. The Maps are super well designed as well and each look nice, and are usually not unbalanced. The third thing is the modding community, if you have this game, and don’t have the Anglo-Zulu war mod, that is just wrong, I mean it is so fun to get your friends and survive against large waves of zulu, or have some friends with the Zulu, it is just a unique experience for me, and other mods are cool to like the Civil War mod.                                                                                                                                                                    Favorite part(s): The Story mode is awesome in the way that it was a time in m life where i was without internet for a good month or two, but i had my laptop and the story mode kept me entertained for basically the whole time, also there are so many fun memories of the AZW mod and late night spent surviving waves.
Number 7: Lego Battles                                                                                          Developer and Release Year: Warner Bros., Hellbent and Lego, 2009                  What it can be played on: DS                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Lego Battles is also a nostalgia pick, and also happens to be a Lego game, but the difference is it still holds up to me today, and i can still play it today...any way I love the gameplay, it’s a basic RTS but with fun themes like Wizards and Knights and Pirates and Aliens vs Humans, and each has a different play style, but not too different that it didn’t confuse me as a kid, I always liked the pirates and the aliens, I dont know why, but uh a drawback is that it can be too easy, at the time I wasnt fast or good enough to beat the AI with my first base, but i quickly learned if i just escaped after the destruction of the first one and just built a stronger second one, i would have more time because the AI couldnt find me and i would win pretty much every time, but despite that I enjoyed all the campaigns and loved the cutscenes and the extra characters like Santa and the Skeleton Guy (tm) and the Conquistador and the Alien Queen etc. and the way to unlock them was to find red bricks in the campaign levels, and/or collect studs which i thought was a fun challenge at the time, and today i sometimes like to go back to it for some casual RTS action                                                                                                                                                                                                     Favorite Part: The Gameplay, it’s simple, fun, and  doesn’t take too long, so if i just want to pick up a short game of the RTS genre I usually spring for this
Number 6: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Classic                                                              Developer and Release Year: Pandemic Studios, LucasArts , 2005                      What it can be played on: PC/PS2/XBOX                                                                                                                                                                                                      The fact that this comes in at number 6 on my list really doesn’t tell how much I love and appreciate this game, this is probably THE game I played the most in my childhood, and even still I play it online with the new servers (I disagree with you sometimes Disney, but thanks for those) This game is so replayable and I haven’t even played through the campaign yet, yeah, what I have done though is beaten all the Galactic Conquest stories, probably more than once. So for those of you that don’t know Galactic Conquest is a mode where each team starts with one ship and one type of troop and you fly around a map of the galaxy and take over enemy planets and defend yours and buy troops with the money you earn from the battles, and if the two ships run in to each others then they do a space battle, and Im gonna say it now i grew up playing the PS2 version with my cousins, but now I play the PC version and when we play with our cousins they play the XBOX version on Xbox One, any way the PC version is the best in terms of FPS and general gameplay smoothness, but the console versions have Galactic Conquest multiplayer which is something that we have spent countless hours playing, and in the end Battlefront 2 will be one of the best shooters of all time, and better than the new Battlefront 2 because that one is no where near good enough to share a name with the classic one, any way, i will always love Battlefront 2                                                                                                                                                                  Favorite part(s): Galactic Conquest and shout out to the maps Kashyyyk and Tantine IV, they’re the best
Hey thanks for reading through this whole thing, uh as you can tell this was super long, i planned to do all ten in this one but i figure it’s gettimg pretty long and I’ll just stop here and I’ll have 5 through 1 tomorrow, Thank you so much!                                                                                                                -Ben :3
Man im loving playing PC games again, specifically Mount & Blade's Napoleonic Wars DLC, i love the mechanics and the way battles are set up but whoo boy does the online community really suck!!!! I love interacting and everything on online games especially on PC the chat sometimes is a lot of fun, but when someome with the username Dildo_Gaggins spams the phrase "hitler did nothing wrong" 10 times and petemymeat55 starts talking about how he hates women, it really just, you know, absolutely makes the experience not great
