all merlin had to do to circumvent the prophecy of arthur’s death was take mordred in and turn him into a little arthur fanboy. it’s a win-win situation. merlin gets to gush about his man crush to this random ten year old and mordred gets a bunch of cool knights to love him and raise him. he’d hear about his destiny to kill arthur from someone and simply go “why the actual fuck would i do that.”

Want to share an excerpt from one of my wips for no reason Pt 4:

He jumped in surprise when he saw Arthur standing right in front of him and his eyes betrayed fear. 

"My lord?" he asked, but his voice cracked. 

So Mordred knew Merlin was in the dungeons. Who—

Right. Gwaine had been there. He dimly wondered if Gwaine was a sorcerer, but decided that he wouldn't be losing as many gambling games as he was if he did practice magic. 

"You are a druid," Arthur growled in a low voice. 

A flash of surprise mixed with desperation crossed his face, but he solemnly nodded. "I am."

"You use magic," Arthur growled again. 

"I do." Mordred's voice went as quiet as Merlin's had. This only made Arthur angrier. 

He pushed Mordred back in and shut the door.

Favorite platonic dynamic(s): I do remember that the Morgana-Morded dynamic was great and had a lot of potential (in a better world though)

LGBT+ headcanon(s): none since I never really thought about him that much

Job headcanon (in an AU/or future): I wish he'd just, stayed and become an apprentice to Gaius, and gotten to learn his magic there, and in that world, Morgana and Merlin and Morded had gotten to bond over their magic

Animal shifter headcanon: big black cat energy, but since I think of both Morgana and Merlin as dragons due to their alignment, I have to think of Mordred as a dragon too. So, depending on whether we're in a high fantasy setting or in a more 'non-fantasy creature' setting

Favorite canon thing about them: I really liked his loyalty to Arthur

Least favorite canon thing about them: how FORCED his villain turn was. once again. I stg the writers really not at these things

mordred, desperate for his hero’s approval bc no matter what he’s done emrys just stares at him with distrust and the poor boy is tired and so close to tears: no…i have magic.

percival, raised by druids and bonded strongly with mordred over that and does Not agree with the persecution of magic in camelot, had an inkling that merlin had magic but no proof: no. i have magic.

*leon and elyan exchange a look, elyan, amused and leon, exhausted, elyan shrugs*

elyan, knows how much gwen adores merlin and completely understands her stance bc merlin…is merlin, down to clown and put on a show, really playing up the dramatics: no! i have magic.

leon, exhausted, has known of merlin’s magic since he stepped foot in camelot, knows of his feelings for arthur and arthur’s feelings for him, knows arthur knows of merlin’s magic and wouldn’t harm him, thinks everyone is being absolutely ridiculous:

*the knights stare hard at leon and even merlin looks slightly offended at leon not jumping to his defense with the rest of the knights, arthur hasn’t said anything and is staring at leon expectantly*
