I think the portrayal of Spider-Man 2099 in Across the Spider-Verse is in-character in that aside from like Shattered Dimensions he's always been portrayed as a bit of an asshole who slips into anti-hero territory at times and generally has a "needs of the many over the needs of the few" mindset and given his specific circumstances in the movie it's not unreasonable to think he could take the actions he does. However it does kinda suck that since like 99% of moviegoers had no idea who he was before the movie came out their first impression of him is when he's in an antagonistic role and people think "antagonist" and "villain" are synonyms so now I'm gonna have to listen to people who've never read a comic saying he's a villain or isn't a real Spider-Man for the rest of time or at least until he inevitably changes his mind in the third one.

Miguel would never move on, he would always keep you in his mind just so he would never forget what a happy man you had made him.

Miguel would sit at your grave for hours, looking at your name carved on the gravestone, with the memory of you taking your last breath in his arms, just like he lost Gabriella.

Miguel would silently cry after five minutes of staring at your gravestone.

Miguel would bring your favorite flower to visit you every time, he even has a vase in his office just to place your favorite flower in it, so he will forever remember you.

Miguel would say stuff that when you're alive, the stuff you wished Miguel to do that you would be proud of him, "I ate my meal well today, carino." "I manage to keep the ceiling clean like you asked." "I managed to not get mad at that kid Miles today."

It's been a year since the incident of your death, Miguel showed up every single day, no matter if it's windy, sunny, rainy, chilly, or cold, he will always show up. Miguel brushes his hand on your gravestone, brushing off the dust, or leaves, or the snow. For the first five minutes, the smile on his face remained, hoping that his smile could tell you that he's okay even if he's not. Miguel missed you every damn day that he hardly got sleep, only time he would sleep was him looking through your files, playing videos that had your voice in it, he would play it in the background to at least smooth his pain a little as he can sleep a little better.

"You promised, you promised to stay with me, why did you leave first?"

"Promise to stay together?" You asked Miguel.

"Forever."

"And ever."

"I miss you so much, carino, you have no idea how depressing it is to wake up without you next to me."

"Good morning handsome, are you ready for today?" You softly chuckled, giving Miguel kisses all over the face.

"Five more minutes, carino." Miguel shoved his face to your chest.

"Anything my Miggy wants." You caressingly his hair and cuddling with him a bit longer.

"I remembered you telling me about the pastry down the street, I went to it yesterday when I was walking back, they are tasty just like you said, but it sure will be more tasty if I was eating it with you."

"Miguel! Have you heard about that new pastry down the street?" You rushed into his office with a flier in my hand.

"Pastry?" Miguel frowned.

"I know you don't really enjoy sweets but I really want to try it out, will you go with me?" You begged.

"Sure Mi Amor." Miguel smiled and gave you a kiss.

"I miss your cooking, your [best dish], I tried to cook it but it seems like I'm missing something, maybe it's missing the taste of eating it with you."

"My favorite dish!" Miguel acted like a small kid that he finally got treats after many rounds of asking for it.

"Just for you." You smiled, took a spoonful of the food, feeding Miguel.

"I can eat this forever," he looked at you, a smile on his face that really shows that he really loves it.

"What if you get sick?"

"I will still eat it," Miguel gave a kiss on your cheek and fed you as well.

Miguel stood in front of your gravestone, the only thing that he can think of is you, about everything you do, how adorable you are.

You and Miguel have a universe traveling plan but you weren't able to go with him, so he would still carry on the planning, going to every universe you wished to visit.

ok, ok, so Guggenheim Museum attack is where Gwen meets Miguel and Jessica and joins their spider society, right?

well, when watching this movie a second time, i noticed that Miguel gets an alert on his watch-thingy about a ‘Canon Event’ happening! he even tells Jessica to be careful and not disrupt it. and you know what happens after they defeat the (very beautifully, ink animated) Vulture, Gwen reveals herself to her dad.

apparently, according to the little algorithm thing Miguel’s got, Gwen was always meant to be forced into revealing herself to her dad and have this ugly falling out and i just—

I literally sat there in shock (and more tears) during this scene because both Miguel and Jessica were aware (i don’t know how aware or how much about this canon event they knew) and chose to not interfere until the very end.

maybe, i’m wrong tho or maybe i misheard, but it really helps put into perspective that while Jessica and Miguel have empathy and consider themselves to be good people (or the people who have to do what’s right even if it feels wrong), they are steadfast in their goals. they are willing to have a teenager go through that (a forced coming out basically is what they was. Gwen saw no other way to maybe have some kind of talk with her dad even if she didn’t want the reveal to happen like this).

Ur tags about how Miles and Pavitr are the ones who say "I can do both" because it IS quintessential spiderman thinking AND because they're too young to have seen that devastatingly not work yet. BUT the thing is they are RIGHT but only if it's "we"! YES YEAH YOU GET IT !!!! and (quite recently rewatched it and mentioning it here cause i can't believe i forgot to mention it in the post you're talking about) it really gets me that gwen also says 'i was doing both' in regards to protecting miles and protecting the canon event, and i love that the phrase was reflected like that, even tho (at this point of the movie) miles and gwen pretty much oppose each other in views/priority !!

it also absolutely kills me the way that gwen begins (like you say) atsv quitting the band and isolates herself, and then throughout the whole thing she finds something/someone that she wants to take that leap for, all over again :') she (and the entire spider-team!!) is willing to bet everything on miles and is ready to fight for him, and i really just love the idea that miles just is a force that inspires good !!!! IT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT LOVE!!!

So apparently Across the Spider-Verse has MULTIPLE different versions of the movie out in theaters right now???

This reddit thread by Hohoho-you goes into the details but so far all the differences between the versions include

During the opening of the film one version has a "cough" text before the Sony logo appears and added comic frames during Gwen's monologue

Lyla either takes a bunny selfie of Miguel or offers a fist bump after he calls for backup

When Gwen asks who Miguel is he either says "that’s classified” or “isn’t it obvious”

Miguel either says "that's funny" or "No" when Gwen calls him the blue panther

The build up from when Miguel was going to bite the Vulture is cut

When Jefferson fell through one of Spot's spots he either groans and looks around, or has a quick frame reaction of his face

When the Spot is going to put his finger in the mini collider he either says "-which would... not be good" or "oh what the heck."

In the chai tea scene Miles either says "no! no." Or "sorry! im sorry" after getting called out by Pavitr

When Hobie first comes on screen and miles says "Hobie" a little text saying "Hobie" popping up above Hobie's head may or may not appear

One version has Gwen's lines when she's looking for Miles in the rubble removed

At the spider society, when Jessica asks if "anybody else got jokes" the text boxes that show up can either be yellow or blue in color

During the canon event scene Hobie has different coloring and lighting depending on the version

When Ben Reilly grabs Miles during the chase scene he either says “I’ve got you trapped in my well defined musculature so don't even-“ or “This one’s called the sleeper hold, I’m using my bicep to constrict your-"

During the chase scene Miles rides Web-Slingers horse through the villain prison and receives cheers from said villains all while the other spiders get boo’d. This scene is cut in an alternate version

In the same chase scene when the spiders cross the tightrope they either fall or get launched in the air, with the falling scene being a slightly extended version

When Miles venom strikes Miguel the line where he says "sorry man I'm goin' home" is cut

When Peter B. Parker returns home MJ either says "Hi" or "How was work" upon his return

during the Prowler!Miles reveal one version has him with more lines and details on his face (thank you @cannibalgal for pointing this one out to me)

I've only seen the film once so far but based on other people's comments online the changes seem to be mixed and matched depending on when and where you go to see the movie
