Jute Gyte - Ship of Theseus
Holy fucking SHIIIIIT. Jute Gyte has to be one of if not my favorite solo-black metal project, black metal, project, fucking whatever cool experimental stuff he does I love. The main thing that Adam Kalmbach's project Jute Gyte is known for is its use of Microtonal Music. If you don't know, western music is generally split (super simplifying here) into half tones. So you have A and then A Sharp and then B, C, then C sharp, D, D sharp. So it progresses in these half steps. In Middle eastern Music and south asian music, and many other cultures outside of the western school of music theory. There are many many more. So there could be a note between d sharp and E that is just like D sharp sharp, or maybe D.78 or D.92 depending on how specific. Essentially Jute Gyte is playing notes, chords, and scales that do not exist within western music canon. If you've never listened to music outside of that space (which includes everything from Justin Bieber to Darkthrone to WuTang to Mozart to Elvis to Miles Davis to Taylor Swift) then this is going to sound insane to you. Even out of tune, it isn't. This is just that cool ass experimental music. This whole album, once you get into the sound he's going for, is such a slow and particular burn filled with incredibly dense riffs and noise orchestration. The guitars prick and and pop almost sounding like metallic crashes or high pitched banging to fit in with the noisey sampling and electronic soundscape. They float between almost recognizable sounds by incorporating notes that aren't within the western canon but are a similar space apart between familiar chords / scales (for instance playing in D.75 Major scale). This playing with familiarity makes everything feel uncanny and uneasy, yet still beautiful. Each song has it's low quieter moments that build into epic, high intensity climaxes that are so dense and well constructed that even after a few listens there will still be details, notes and references. An absolute fucking experience. Jute Gyte is one of the best to be making music right now.

Jute Gyte - Krun Macula (full album, 2023)
Tumblr media
youtube
So, when you have a band known for their unique take on black metal like Jute Gyte are, with their legendary microtonal progressive output, why would you choose their  rare ambient release to feature? Well, why not, after all their black metal releases are already acknowledged as genre classics, plus, it's named after an equatorial dark spot on Pluto who in turn is named after a Mandaean lord of the underworld and, well, we are huge nerds.
So, 'Krun Macula' is eerie. It could be said to be somewhat calming, but the undercurrent is there. It's minimal, but somehow tunes on the  uncanny valley, but on a grand, impersonal scale. Like watching an endless march of people through a post apocalyptic wasteland while angels supervise them smiling, but the people can tell the smiles are fake, creepy, Stepford-like rictuses intended to calm them but that the angels are really alien and unfeeling, while the silence is not silence but to quote Harlan Ellisson,  the sound of one hand clapping.
Sorry, is this getting too weird? Yeah well, this is Jute Gyte, if anyone can create a liminal zone with the bare minimum of sound, it's them.

Lounge lizard vst for sale
Tumblr media
New Compressor and equalizer – These new additions are designed to add punch and definition to your sound, letting you cut through any dense mix or stage.
New Library – The completely renewed factory library features classic electric piano sounds as well as over 240 gig- and mix-ready custom electric pianos making good use of the compressor, equalizer, and multi-effect processor.
Don’t forget, there is a big Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale currently available on all plugins, sound packs and bundles. Another plus is the new support for microtonal tunings. Besides this big update for its physical modeling based e-piano piano, the AAS developers also updated four other of their plugins with new scalable UIs. It includes a new library with over 240 electronic piano patches, new character control with five classic studio & stage signal patch emulations and new finalizing effects (comp, EQ & limiter).Īlso, the interface and preset manager have been updated and offer now a better workflow. Lounge Lizard EP-4 v4.3.0 is a major update with many new features and improvements. Do you have any that you like that I mentioned or maybe didn’t mention? Let me know in the comment section below! If you are a fan of VSTs, check out my post on the best organ VSTs here.Applied Acoustics Systems (AAS) has updated Lounge Lizard EP-4 to v4.3.o with new features & intros new scalable UIs its plugins. There’s a lot to consider when finding the best electric piano VST. You can create some crazy cool tones by going into detail. I really love to get my hands dirty when it comes to effecting electric pianos. Sometimes the presets are really cool and they inspire you.Įffects: Like the presets, the more effects the better in my opinion. Some of the VST’s will give you amp simulators and hundreds of fun effects you can use to tweak the sounds. With this, you also want to focus on the features that each VST gives you. Sound: With an electric piano VST, you want to focus on how close it emulates a real electric piano. What To Look For In A Electric Piano VST Plugin If you’re interested in piano VST plugins in general, check out this roundup of acoustic piano VST plugins here. The Doors were notorious for using them and in a lot of ways helped to make them popular. When you play electric pianos you instantly feel nostalgic as they were used heavily by bands in the 1970s. They are very funky to play in my opinion, but very fun as well. The key-beds on traditional Rhodes pianos are quite rough. This gives it an extremely unique sound that is very recognizable. Just like the piano, it generates its sounds from hammers hitting metal tines. You will sometimes hear this referred to as the Fender Rhodes piano as it was created by Fender. The Rhodes electric piano was created in 1970 by Harold Rhodes and it became popular shortly after.
DSK Elektrik Piano Plugin – Windows/Mac.
Note: *Always use caution when downloading free software.
Tumblr media
The 2 best free options are Keyzone Classic and Noiseash. Some of these work with MAC & Windows while others only work with one of the two. If you’re a producer on a tight budget, fear not, I’ve put together some free electric piano plugins that I think you’ll enjoy. It definitely doesn’t hurt to have such a phenomenal player on it, but it sounds legit, trust me. Overall ThoughtsĪs you can see from the demo, this thing sounds great.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The nice thing with this plugin is that there are a lot of presets that you can navigate between in order to find a style that you’re looking for. It sounds very realistic and also plays nicely as well. You get a lot of great presets with this VST and you also get some great effects. I have been speaking highly of all of the VST’s mentioned, but these are the ones that I truly do like. Spectrasonics Keyscape did a great job recreating the electric piano.

Scarcity Announce Epic Debut LP Aveilut for The Flenser
The duo, feat. Brendon Randall-Myers and Doug Moore, will release the 45-minute-long composition on July 15th. // Watch the video for passage “ii” now.
Tumblr media
There’s a sense of loss apparent throughout Brooklyn experimental black metalists Scarcity’s debut album Aveilut— it’s steeped in the inescapable presence of the realities of death.  Multi-instrumentalist Brendon Randall-Myers (conductor of the Glenn Branca Ensemble since Branca’s passing) wrote Aveilut while processing the sudden deaths of two people close to him, tracked it while caught in Beijing’s first lockdown of 2020, and finished it while surrounded by the overwhelming plague visuals of New York’s early COVID peak. Back in Brooklyn, vocalist Doug Moore (of Pyrrhon, Weeping Sores, Glorious Depravity, and Seputus) soon found himself in the midst of an equally bleak lockdown experience — living next to a funeral home when New York City was America’s COVID epicenter. From conception through development, tangible death surrounded Aveilut.
The result of such a profound closeness with death is the grief-stricken Aveilut, which takes its name from the Hebrew word for mourning. 72-note octaves, alternate tunings, psychoacoustic phenomena and macro-phrases embody the hugeness of loss, the inexplicable space of death’s void that Randall-Myers faced both on a personal and existential scale. Together with Moore’s gripping vocal delivery and stark lyrics, the album takes the form of a hyperobject, an entity with such vastness and reach that it’s difficult for the human mind to comprehend.
Today, “ii” from Aveilut surfaces alongside a video by filmmaker Derrick Belcham featuring sound-reactive footage of dancer Jacalyn Tatro frenetically juxtaposed with the massive, harsh landscapes of southern Iceland.
Watch the video for "ii" via Decibel Magazine (or share from YouTube).
Consisting of one 45-minute composition, the music on Aveilut is black metal roughly in the vein of Jute Gyte, Krallice, Mare Cognitum, and Enhare— with hefty doses of post-Branca microtonal guitar abuse, and a cinematic scope that draws on Randall-Myers’ work with orchestras.
Aveilut’s mathematical abstraction and lyrical focus on the greatness of the void breed raw emotion, attempting to represent a catastrophe, the vastness and inevitability of things outside our control; as well as a direct expression of grief, a kind of requiem. Though born of Randall-Myers' and Moore’s intense intimacy with absence, Aveilut is an attempt to present a harrowing universal representation of death’s true form.
Look for Aveilut to be available on CD, LP + Digital formats on July 15th, 2022 from The Flenser — pre-orders are available here and more news from Scarcity will arrive soon.

x-ray five: Jute Gyte - The Sparrow
One of the big ones. One-man black-metal band Jute Gyte's contribution to the Blue Tapes canon is less a BM record and more a wormhole opening to a universe where the very physics of music as we understand it operate fundamentally differently.
Billed at the time as an EP, there is an album's length of music across the two tracks - The Sparrow, presented as one-side of a single-sided, screenprinted LP; and Monadanom, available as an accompanying download.
The title-track is a searing piece of microtonal metal influenced by Gloria Coates as much as any badger-faced church-burner.
Monadanom is an even deeper, weirder proposition - an unheimlich instrumental that sounds like little else.
One of the most unique looking of our x-ray vinyl series, the single-sided LP looks like a strange eye where they lids are moths?!
Stark, minimal - offering few clues.
Still got copies of this one at the link above.

Jute Gyte - Unus Mundus Patet
New album from Avant Garde legend Jute Gyte and boy does it fuck so hard. It starts off in such a noisey note with these songs filled with microtonal riffs of harsh tremolo picking, waves of screeching noise, and these firey tenor screaming vocals of anguish. This intensity slowly fades away leading to a more atmospheric or dark ambient experience in the second half where the harsh noise is replaced with rolling waves of static and much of the tremolo picking replaced with long synth waves that waver and grow, wriggling into your ear like a brain parasite. Amazing listen from an amazing artist.
