Yes, contrary to popular belief, the soundtrack for the special did get a release around the time of airing, though it didn't last long in the shelves. It took all the way up to 2002 for it to hit CD (apparently there was a spat over the rights).

Synopsis: On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. The Sombertown Shakedown

This morning I dropped a shampoo bottle on my toe. I wasn’t even washing my hair, it just fell off the shower ledge and plummeted in a mean-spirited and sort of unnecessary way onto my left ring toe. Cold toes, like moons, experience feelings infinitely deeper than those who’ve received fair love and circulation. 

The pain was unexpected and therefore agonizing, and I just stood in the tub with one hand gripping the shower curtain and the other bracing against the fiberglass wall, breathing through the nanoseconds until the pain would pass. It felt like an eternity. I thought of all the things I could’ve done differently; I could’ve stepped slowly into the tub (Again, too curious, too fast!) or I could’ve just stayed away—I didn’t really need to be in the bathroom to begin with, but I wanted to take a shower, because it’s nice to feel clean and warm and I thought I deserved that. I could’ve avoided this pain all together. But regret will get you nowhere when it’s forward that you need to go.

There’s a classic TV film, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, and my favorite song was always “Put One Foot in Front of the Other.” Besides the fact that it’s an absolute bop, I liked the idea that Winter Warlock had the power to change his situation if he wanted. Kris Kringle encouraged him, but Winter was in control of his next move. I am too. 

I try to tell myself that I’ve felt this pain before and made it through. I was happy again. There is nothing else I can do right now; no doctor will splint this or prescribe medication for a better chance at a full recovery. I just have to breathe. In and out. In and out. Every moment, through the memories and anxieties, every hour, each day until the pain fades. And it will. It will if I keep breathing and keep planning for the moment when I am able to put weight on that crushed toe again. 

I’m accepting easycore covers of this song, by the way. Let’s bait the tempo, use octave riffs, and give distortion heavier than last week’s snow. Shout-backs, all the shout-backs! Tell me you can’t hear that breakdown and that it doesn’t make you smile. Now that’s nice.

Dear Journal,     Friday, March

I text all my friends every day. While it does bum me out when I don't get a text back. I want them to know that I am thinking about them either way. I will admit that somedays this can downgrade my mental health. When this does happen, I do self-care. Or I should say more self-care. I like to start with a podcast during the day. I pair it with video games which take my mind off whatever hard thing I am dealing with. Sometimes I just must escape. I know that sounds like I am taking the easy way out. Then towards the evening I sit down with my favorite mediation application called Serenity. This is an application that you can listen to a voice that walks you through mediation. Then from there I will watch the news. Now I know that might not sound like the greatest idea. But it is so important to balance self-care with staying a part of the world. Then I go back to video games to forget all the blood and gore that I heard and saw on the nightly news. To tell you the truth I don't know what makes me watch the news when it just makes me mad at how many people are dying every day. Especially with all these wars. I guess I should stop talking about this topic and get back to the topic of self-care. You, my faithful reader, could have self-care just as simply as drinking a cup of tea and reading a good book in a quiet space. I am mainly writing this post because my friends/readers are having an off day. I wanted her to have the option to remember a day when I was over at her house before she moved, and we had a cup of tea, and I was writing and she was listening to her favorite music. There was no need for talking. But I would be lying if I didn't say that it was so restful for both of us. Even with her two kids running around watching mickey mouse club house. Unfortunately, this friend had to move away so her family could survive. There isn't a day that I don't miss them. So, as you can tell this is a hard subject for me. That is what makes me focus so much on self-care. That is what you need to do. Put yourself first. Then you can take care of all the others and things that you need to attend to. I learned that from Robin McGraw on her podcast titled I've got a secret with Robin McGraw. When I need something positive to listen to that is what I go to. I am always looking for a good laugh that isn't being about something nasty. So, my hope for all of you is that you go and find your own way to do self-care. If one method doesn't work, then try another one. Just a warning if you are reading this blog, please realize I am having a hard time spelling today. I am normally good with words, but I may have had just a little too much coffee for breakfast. I will admit that I shouldn't drink it, but it does help with the headaches. Then this brings me to another topic none of us are perfect. Better known as perfectly imperfect. Remember that and don't be too hard on yourself. I hope to add some pictures to my blog soon. Just when I can figure out how to hook my digital camera to my computer. Okay let me admit that is just sad. I have gone to journalism school, and I don't know how to hook up my digital camera (that I got for graduation) now I must figure out where I put the instructions. I was due for a humble moment today. Instead of being mad at myself. Instead, I am just laughing at myself. Sometimes I can be such a goof. I hope that you all are having a good day. Now it is time for me to get back to taking care of myself. And plus, I have some other stuff to take care of. Ok now you need to go take care of yourself. Have a great day.

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (1970)

This is a Christmas classic. If you haven’t seen it, you should. I feel like I’ve said it before, but I am a sucker for a good clay mashe.

This is an origin story for Santa Claus. A human baby was found on the mountain by some toy making elves and raised by them. This was the Kringle family, so he was known as Kris Kringle (Mickey Rooney). The only identification he had on him was a medallion that said “Claus.” Which like, that has been done in other movies but I have never seen any engraved medallions on any baby registries, so idk where that comes from. Anyway, the Kringle family stopped making toys because they live on a mountain so there are no children to give the toys to and they can’t get past the Winter Warlock (Keenan Wynn). Kris decides that it’s all very silly, so he decides to take the toys himself. He also meets a penguin that he names Topper who helps him quite a bit in this film. Topper was always my brother’s favorite character.

Kris does make it to town, where he meets some kids and gives them some toys. Unfortunately, toys are illegal due to the proclamation of Burgermeister Meisterburger (Paul Frees). So the kids keep getting the toys taken and Kris keeps finding new ways to sneak the toys in. At first, the schoolteacher Miss Jessica (Robie Lester) scolds him for it, but eventually she helps him. However Kris becomes an enemy of the state and has to come up with more ways to find out what the children want and how to get the toys to them.

I know most Americans are familiar with this movie already because it’s always part of Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas. I don’t know if it’s as much of a success internationally, but it is a classic. 5 stars for the ginger with a beard.
