SPOILERS: MY WINE-FUELED S3 RECAP OF MSHD
You know... I was looking forward to this final season for 12 months. Almost sure that they would end up together because of the promo materials and natural telenovela-esque story arcs (although, let’s be honest, as LB+ watchers we can never be to sure about a happy ending). But, despite my endgame coming true, this season felt deeply underwhelming. After episode 5 the series completely lacked any affection and close scenes between Mariana and Ana, especially on Mariana’s part. Suddenly the episodes solely focused on them in relation to the babies - and on all the other couples. And, with the ending we got, it just felt so underserved. We didn’t truly see Mariana’s realization that she might have been wrong about “being confused”. The break-up with Ferrán came completely out of left field (a bit of a deus ex machina, if you ask me because without him having a kid, she might have even stayed with him, despite his unreliableness and aversion for children in his space/home). We didn’t get a conversation between Ana and Mariana that went beyond the kids’ well-being, their businesses and “by the way I love you”. We didn’t actually see them reconnect and share a space beyond quick pecks. And even the rest of the plotlines... these characters all had so much potential. Instead, we got redundant, repetitive, almost circular stories. I mean...how often can a couple break up and get back together because their priorities don’t align (looking at you, Cynthia and Pablo; as well as Fernanda and Juan Carlos). How often can a teenage boy be insecure about a girl (Ro! Yes, and I know... the answer is “quite often, just like girls and any other teenage hormonal person attracted to the female sex” - however, in a concise narrative approach, that emotionally almost identical situation doesn’t need to be shown 2 or 3 times). I think the series lost focus. It’s an ensemble series, but it forgot its core dynamic. And that’s why a season of only 10 episodes somehow ended up feeling too long and tedious. Because there was so much character development and potential that was just skipped over in favor of repetitive plots. That hunger and physical closeness as well as emotional intimacy we saw in the kiss between Mariana and Ana in the S2 finale was never shown again. Same with Mariana’s tenderness and hope when it came to Ana in S1. And Ana’s love confession involving bikes felt a bit public and cringy. Maybe because we skipped all the potential close and confusing situations/tropes that would have come with “fake dating” not to mention the true emotional repercussions that would have come after that and after sleeping together. Maybe because they rarely had any scenes just the two of them, where they talked about anything but work and the children. Which means: I’m happy about the end game, but narratively I am far from satisfied. Aaaaaaand with that I end my first official tumblr post/ tv rant. Thank you all - which is probably 2 people, if I’m lucky - for reading this far.

madre solo hay dos rant
SPOILERS BELOW!!!
you’re telling me that the two main female leads of a mexican show became a romantic couple and are happily raising their children together at the end? this is so rare, especially for lesbian media (sad i know) and with all the lesbian show cancellations in 2022, madre solo hay dos was definitely a breath of fresh air and a great way to end the year!
now for the final season itself, yes there was definitely a lack of development, especially with mariana and yes, it was most certainly not the best writing or the best season. however, my gay heart was definitely fulfilled because mariana and ana ended up together by the end despite everything. this show is definitely on top of my list just because of the lesbian representation (not perfect sometimes) with the two main characters and the emphasis on the idea that family does not necessarily need to fit into societal norms. i just love this show, and i will really miss its lighthearted plots, lovable characters, and the humor!
it’s sad that our standards have been lowered because many lesbian shows are either getting cancelled or are killed but madre solo hay dos did something, dare i say, revolutionary? you really just don’t find this kind of happy ending and development with lesbians that easily in the media but i hope this show will change that.

So I finally finished Daughter From Another Mother (spoilers) and, just like everyone else, I’m happy that they ended up together but honestly season 3 was basically just as disappointing as season 2. I’ve had my issues with this show, but I will always praise it for the story they told. The actors are great, and the topics they tackle are great. It’s just the storytelling and structure that drag it down. I have two main complaints that I can’t let go of:
First one is how they gave all of their hundred side characters so much screen time to the point that it was extremely detrimental to Ana and Mariana’s love story which, HELLO, is the main story here, like let’s be real. Of course there’s going to be other storylines in the show, but there should be the typical structure where the main plots get more time and development for a reason. The last two seasons spent just as much time on side plots as they did the main plot and it hurt the storytelling.
And my second complaint is the fact that in the ending of season one we see Mariana confess her love to Ana, and then we NEVER see that passion from her again. Like, they really couldn’t give us ANY indications that Mariana never truly stopped loving Ana like that but just didn’t wanna get hurt by her again? Seasons 2 and 3 would’ve been a lot better if we see Mariana’s internal struggle trying to be with Ferran despite her still being in love with Ana. What would have been even better is seeing Ana and Mariana start to realize they love each other sooner and spend time developing that. But as of season two it never felt that Mariana cared for Ana in any way other than platonically.
Thank god for Ludwika Paleta cause she really made this season worth watching imo. Season one is def superior…. But the one thing the other seasons have going for them is getting to see Ana fall for Mariana. At the end of the day I’m just glad they ended up together.
OH AND LAST QUESTION: is there some sort of inside joke about the lock and key necklaces that I missed out on???? I’ve noticed it pointed out a couple times.
