‘the legion of super-heroes fandom is so small’

it’s actually decently substantial but most of its members are in their 50s & 60s atp and tend to post on legion dedicated forums rather than places like tumblr or twitter.

i mean, interlac is still being printed after nearly 50 years. this is just a fandom that pre-dates the internet.

#also the team’s popularity peaked in the 70s/80s #so that definitely has something to do with it #anyway LOSH has an extremely dedicated fan base; just not modern social media based #long live the legion #dc

I didn't like Mekt much but I do hate seeing him only utilized as a villain, as if Legion Worlds didn't happen.

Where is the Mekt who admitted that he was wrong to let his loneliness and jealousy dictate how he acted? Where is the Mekt that worked to be better? Where is the Mekt who welcomed Ayla home and put himself in harms way to help her save their parents farm? Where is the Mekt that delighted at the idea of seeing Garth again and was sad to hear he wasn't really coming back?

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but Mekt works so much better as a character of redemption and reconciliation than as one who stays bitter and antagonistic. He's more interesting that way

hhh i wanna say something but i KNOW im just being a little hater. whatever putting it in the tags of this post

#guys v1 isnt like. uniquely evil?#i keep seeing memes calling them evil or getting mad at them for the stuff they do but #all the other machines are trying to kill THEM too #what do you think v2 would do to v1 if v1 was the one who lost? would it let it run away? no it wouldnt it would kill it and take its blood #and parts. every single machine is looking out for itself in hell #either theyre all evil or non of them are or they have no concept of morality because they are tools/weapons #its just. weird to me that everyones like awww poor baby v2 and evil mean v1. hey quick question where do you think v2 got those arms from.#thats definitely not the arms they were made with #on one hand they COULDVE scavenged it from someone already dead but.. how has v2 lasted so long in hell if they hadnt been killing for #blood?#killing husks maybe but thats still. killing people?#its just weird. theres such a disconnect between how people see v1 and v2 when theyre both weapons of mass murder who live off blood #also when hakita said v1 isnt actually the protagonist and the story isnt abt them #and theyre just who we're seeing the story from #i think this also applies.#v1 is just one in a legion of blood thirsty machines. theyre not uniquely mean/evil theyre just following their #own programming like the other machines

I can’t believe it took me this long to realize the Blaster Blade Aichi Rides in the Get Back Yourself ED sequence is Blaster Blade Seeker, not Blaster Blade. Why is this relevant?

I submit, Kai’s Ride chant for Blaster Blade Seeker : “Stand up, my avatar! The true friend within my soul... my mate! Ride the Vanguard! Blaster Blade Seeker!”

Also, Kai’s Legion chant for Thing Saver Dragon, the same one he calls “Soulmate Legion”, and describes as “the bond between [himself] and Aichi” in ep 169 where he first meets Gaillard: “The light of courage that connects me and my mate in the darkness! Seek the mate! Friendship is in this hand! Our bond is in this heart! Line up, avatar of my soul. Legion!”

My only excuse is that every time I watch Legion Mate I’m scraping my jaw off the floor because “how on Earth (and Cray) did they ever green light a season that’s just made of There’s No Heterosexual Explanation For This Whatsoever”.

And I thought it was obvious enough with Aichi’s little proposal speech at the end of Link Joker 😅

Citizens of Garlemald reached adulthood when they first showed signs of puberty, or upon their acceptance into the military, whichever came sooner. They believed that if one was able to serve their country, they deserved the rights and responsibilities of adults.

If a child could choose to wield a weapon, they were old enough to dictate their own fates.

Gaius was barely thirteen when he enrolled into the military. His voice had yet to crack and he had nary a hair on his face to speak for his newfound "adulthood". He, like many and more to come, looked up to those who were well and truly adults, being whisked under their wings to be mentored into being a man and a soldier.

In a society where men and women spent more time in barracks and not in a cot in their family's home, it was common - and nearly required - for children in the military to be fostered and cared for by an older soldier. They would be raised and cared for, taught how to be a man and a machine, and then they would retire. The military relied on its recruits upholding the status quo in this manner.

Gaius was taught how to shave. He was taught how to tie a tie, and how to behave around girls his own age. And he was taught one very important thing by his mentor, a man who was born decades before the empire had even begun:

One did not sleep with their charge.

It was not a factor of age or experience, but of status. A Legatus shouldn't sleep with the boy he trained as a son. A Tribanus shouldn't keep a bed with the same woman they had taught how to kill. Garlemald and it's military held status among men in high regard. Men were to teach the boys of today, so that they could teach the boys of tomorrow, a fine and delicate act of commanding and listening.

But there was a line in the snow. Not all listened, nor heeded the advice, but it was one Gaius held true all the same. The boys he taught respect to were not ones he would share a bedroll with. His recruits were not his bedfellows, and he treated them much the same as he would his own children in due time.

Gaius, no matter how pressed, never slept with Livia. The girl was a daughter and not one he shared sheets with. Children oft had crushes and obsessions with adults they held in high regard, and Livia was no different... except that she struggled to outgrow her fixation. His love for her, as a brother to a baby sister, as a mentor to a mentee, was not enough for her.

He shared no bed with those in his Legion. He shared no bed with those he raised from childhood. And he shared no bed with those too young to choose their own fates... an age that is summers beyond what his fatherland decrees.

Men and women of different station and legions were more than welcome. They had not been his to care for or command: he had not seen them rise from prepubescent boys and girls into soldiers. Their status mattered not, nor their race.

Gaius rarely spent time in his own home in Garlemald, and he was not one to have the bed to himself and his thoughts. A good meal and a better fuck served to rid him of his night terrors and contemplations, if only for one evening... and if the Legati or Tribanus of the soldiers he bedded took offense to his acts, few had it in them to speak it into existence.

(He was a child killer, after all, the bane of those who dared seek the throne. If he could slaughter babes and women alike, who would dare speak against him?)

I wish being an elf gave you an option to respond with "I'm older than you" (ideally completely deadpan) when an NPC of another race calls you a "youngster" or "child" or "young adventurer" or something like that because I think it would be funny.

#i think dwarves live really long too #oh also draenei #my point is i feel the need to correct old pandaren when they call me young lol #also obviously i'm half joking but only half bc i do think we need more race/class-specific interactions yknow #have the refugees walking around in the capital cities say something to you if you run by as a night elf or forsaken #(that's the only example i can come up with atm rip)#little things like that would really help bring you into the world and feel like *who* you choose to be has an effect #and that it's not just cosmetic #legion class halls were EXCELLENT and I hope we see something on that level again #it's not enough for npcs to occasionally start quest text with ''Greetings [race/class]''#and then have that be it

Shown above are the last three mailings of Interlac from August, June, and April 2022. Yes, we still do staple bound sections of paper zines.

It’s hard to explain what Interlac is, but I think it’s best described as a club for Legion of Super-Heroes fans.

Some clubs have rules like you can only talk about gardening at gardening club. But the members of Interlac talk about their lives, other fandoms, and yes the Legion.

It takes the form of zines written for the other members to read, including commentary back and forth about previous issues. A new “mailing” is assembled bi-monthly by our leader, and goes out to all the members. The minimum activity to remain a member is four pages of your own zine every six months.

If you’re interested in getting to know other Legion fans then message me for more details. I was a former leader of Interlac, and can get you in contact with the current leader. Currently we have members in the US, the UK, and Canada. A couple of your fellow Tumblr Legion fans are in Interlac.
