#Lee Yeon told Lee Rang he was leaving

I have character development thoughts on Lee Yeon! Buckle up:
After finishing the first season, I thought to myself that all this trouble (Rang’s abandonment issues, Imugi, etc.) would have been avoided if Yeon had just followed his clear calling as a househusband instead of being a mountain god. This man just wanted to fall in love, keep house, and have little fox babies. Instead, for some reason, he was in charge of an entire territory. I figured it was a case of picking the wrong career and getting locked in, or maybe he was born to it somehow.
Yeon has been widely panned for abandoning his land and his brother for his love interest. While I think he certainly deserves some criticism, I’ve always given him more leeway for one specific reason: foxes mate for life. It’s true in nature, and they play it up for the gumiho mythology. When foxes pair up, they stick with their mate unconditionally. They live and die together. So while there was some degree of choice in Yeon leaving the mountain and Rang and going into Taluipa’s service, we’ll never know how much, because his nature would have compelled him to put his loyalty to Ah Eum above everything.
But now there’s another element at play: we’re getting to see how Yeon, and the others, became mountain gods. It turns out that they were handpicked as children. They were neither born to it, nor given the choice to pursue it. Based on their power, they were chosen by Taluipa to fill those roles. We even get a scene of them trying to run away from their training. And it’s clear that at least two of them were not truly suited to their jobs. Moo Yeong destroyed his entire forest (for some reason we don’t know yet), and was turned to stone as punishment. And Yeon was too sentimental, with a built-in romantic weakness due to his species, and he had the stunning misfortune of falling in love with a human. Hong Joo seems to have been up to the task, and the strongest of them all, but it cost her family their lives.
So now Yeon’s abandonment of his mountain makes more sense. It’s a job he never wanted in the first place, although he appears to have done his duty sufficiently for several centuries. But his powers are limited to his territory, and he doesn’t seem overly-enthusiastic about his position. And once he’s incentivized to leave it all behind, he does it without a second thought.
We’ve also learned that Yeon’s dad was abusive, not just absent. Yeon has that same edge of cruelty and aloofness that sometimes shows up, most notably toward his enemies and in a dilute form toward Rang. He was dedicated to raising Rang once he was in his care, but his initial meeting with his surprise sibling, just a child, was very “God helps those who help themselves”. Presumably, that’s the message he got from his father. Ironically, he now seems to have some grasp of attachment theory, as we see when he’s taking charge of Mi Ho. He wants her to feel security, security he likely did not receive from his father and was ultimately unable to give to Rang. Although he fucked up with his brother, he did manage to do better than their father ever did, and has learned a lot from his mistakes.
I’m really excited that we’re getting more development for Yeon’s character this season. I’m also wondering if his dad is still alive; we’ve never been told he died, and since the season is very centered on the brothers’ relationship…

"Wasn't he home the whole day?" Yeon asked as I shook my head.
"Everyone went out...it was just me and Miho the whole day..." I said as I grew fearful.
"He wasn't with us either..." Shinjoo trailed adding onto my worry.
"Yah..." I trailed as Yeon ran out.
"I'll go find him! You stay with Miho!" He exclaimed and ran as I widened my eyes.
"YAH-"
"Noeul, I'll go search for him as well...you stay with Miho incase he comes back home!" Shinjoo exclaimed before leaving as well.
Rang...where are you?
I made a fireball and threw it up in the air making my crow appear.
"Rang is missing, go find him right now!" I commanded as it made a sound and flew away.
I decided to hold Miho who was awake and wait for the guys and hopefully Rang to comeback. I felt my eyes water as I looked at Miho.
"I lost my Rang...I can't bear to lose the Rang of this timeline as well..." I looked up and widened my eyes when I saw the familiar glow of my crow. I stood up and put my right hand out for it to land.
"Rang's tie!" I exclaimed holding the tie my crow retrieved. I looked at it before looking at my crow.
"Take me there right now."
After we left the house and ran towards Rang's last sightings, my crow landed and disappeared.
"Rang's clothes...Rang-ah! Rang-ah...where are you?" I called out in desperation when I heard a whimper. I slowly followed it towards a bush.
"Rang-ah...is that you?" I said softly only to find a puppy.
"You're not Rang..." I mumbled at the black puppy and petted under it's neck when I felt a necklace of some sort. I picked up the puppy to have a closer look at its necklace. My eyes widened as I kept the puppy down and ran far away from it.
"The puppy is wearing the same necklace I gave Rang-did it perhaps steal it? No, Rang would never let it get lost....let alone stol-what if that puppy is...no...nooo...no, no, no. It couldn't be...right?" I looked at Miho who just giggled. I slowly walked towards the puppy who sat and whimpered.
"Rang-ah....is that you?" I said softly as it quickly looked up to face me. I gasped as I came closer.
"Rang-ah?... how am I supposed to understand oh-bark two times if you're Rang!" I said as it barked two times making me gasp and pick it up to hug it.
"Oh my gosh-what happened?!" I exclaimed as I picked him up to my face level. I frowed as his voice only came out as a bark.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh....let's go back!"
꒷꒦꒷꒦꒷꒦꒷꒦꒷꒦꒷
"I don't believe it." Yeon said making me whine as Rang barked angrily.
"Noo! He is Rang!" I insisted as he sighed when Shinjoo finally returned.
"I couldn't find him." He said when he saw the puppy in my arms.
"RANG?!" He exclaimed as I went and hugged him.
"It's him right?!" I exclaimed as he nodded and took Rang from my arms.
"Lord Rang?! Are you okay?! How did this happen??" He asked as Rang barked.
"What did he say?" I asked as Yeon who now believed it was his little brother also came closer to see.
"He says that a little kid came in front of him while he was foraging the forest for a flower. He told the kid to scram amdshe turned him into a puppy." Shinjoo said making me and Yeon widen our eyes.
"She must've been a witch. You're not even the type to like flowers...why did you even go out?" Yeon scolded him making Rang bark at him.
"Rang-ah...don't worry...we'll find a way to turn you back into a human. " I said and petted him as Shinjoo spoke up.
"But until then...you're gonna have to adjust in this form." He said making Rang bark. I smiled and took him in my arms.
"Be nice, Rang-ah." I said in a soft but stern voice before kissing his head.
Rang's
Being a dog doesn't seem too bad as long as Noeul takes care of me. But then again...I can't stay a dog forever. If only I hadn't gone out to find a tulip.
Tulips are ideal to give to someone who you have deep and unconditional love for.
Ever since Noeul told me that...Tulips are all that I've been wanting to find. She drew it so I kind of have an image of it in my mind but not the time for that.
Noeul's
"Rang-ah let's go for a walk!" I chirped in hopes of cheering him up. Shinjoo and Yeon went out to search for the child while I was put on babysitting duty.
He happily wagged his tail making me smile as I petted him.
As we walked through the town my mind couldn't help but drift off to Yeon's words.
We only have 2 weeks until we have to return back to our timeline.
A bark brought me back to reality as I saw Rang running off.
"Rang-ah!" I called out to him and ran after him.
After a while he stopped and motioned towards the bridge with his head.
"What's wrong? Huh?" I looked to where he was motioning and I soon saw a little girl. Confused, I looked at Rang and for amoment I thought I heard his voice in my mind.
That's the girl!
I gasped and looked at him.
"That's her?" I asked as he nodded. I quickly picked him up and ran towards the child. I put my hand on her shoulder making her turn towards me.
"Fix him now." I said and she widened her eyes.
She can clearly know what I am.
"I can't reverse my spell." She said after bringing us to the forest making Rang bark aggressively in a puppy manner.
"Then is he going to remain as a puppy forever?!" I exclaimed as she winced and joined her hands in forgiveness.
"I'm sorry! But there is one way...if a person admits their love for him he can turn back." She said making me widen my eyes.
"Yeon! Yeon does!" I say as she's shakes her head.
"Noo, I meant true love...romantic love!" She said making me freeze as I turned towards him.
"We kissed...does that count?" I said making her sigh.
"He would've been a person by now then." She said as I shook my head.
"It was before that." I said making her face palm.
"Then it won't work...are you two lovers?" She asked making me look at Rang.
"I don't...know..." I said as she stood up.
"If it's not true love it won't work..." She said making me look at Rang who now looked at the ground in sadness.
"Will he remember any of this when he returns to his original form?" I asked the child as she shook her head.
"His time as a puppy will all be forgotten when he turns back." She said making me nod as I smiled.
"Thank you for your help...you can go now." I said softly making her smile as she bowed and disappeared.
"Rang-ah....we'll find a way-" I cut my own words the momentI heard his voice in my mind again.
You don't love me do you...
I looked at him in shock as I picked him up.
"I don't know if it's you communicating to me or my own mind tricking me but...I can't love you. Even if I wanted to...it's not possible...Rang-ah. " I said when his voice entered my mind again.
Why not?
I cleared my throat and started walking around the forest.
"I hope...you won't remember this. I'm not...from this timeline. You might think it's just Yeon and Shinjoo who aren't from here but they lied. I'm with them..." I said softly, petting his head.
"I tried so hard not to fall but I did...I know it's gonna end in a heartbreak anyway but...it doesn't change the fact that you are my Rang...just from a different timeline." After reaching a meadow I put Rang down and sat on the grass.
So...you love your Rang more than this Rang?
I chuckled as my eyes went teary.
"The only difference between you and my Rang is that you're from the past and my Rang is from the future...well...you're both from my past now." I said and hugged Rang's puppy form.
"But there's no doubt that I love you Rang. Whether you're a dog, whether you're from my timeline or not...I love every version of you." I said and closed my eyes as my tears fell.
I opened my eyes the moment I felt hands wrap around my waist, I broke the hug to see Rang in his true form. He smiled softly at me making a new wave of tears fill my eyes as I hugged him.
Rang's
I smiled as Noeul hugged me tightly while crying.
"Stop pretending like I disappeared." I said softly as she shook her head.
"It felt like it." She sobbed making me chuckle as I rested my head on hers.
"I love you...more than you think I do." I confessed making her break the hug to look at me. I brought my hand forward to give her the tulip I got the other day.
"It's a little wilted but-" She cut me off with a hug.
"It's perfect....I love you too." She confessed making me widen my eyes as she smiled and kissed my forehead.
As we made our way home I couldn't help but remember what she said.
I'm not...from this timeline
Ik it's weird! But I think it needs a part 2 but I hope it was good enough!

I’m Here For You...
Fandom: Tale of the Nine Tailed
Pairing: Lee Rang x reader
(y/n= your name)
Tumblr media
Why isn’t he answering my calls? He was probably upset about something. And that something definitely had to do with his brother.
I know Lee Rang for only some months. We’ve met at a bookstore where both of us were trying to buy the last copy of “Moby Dick”. We got into a huge fight over that. Finally I managed to get it since he was only hoarding all editions of the same book.
Though he was acting like a spoiled brat, I secretly liked him a lot and I’m pretty sure he found me amusing too. Since then, we occasionally met. In our brief time of acquaintance he had already complained about his brother an awful lot. And judging by his words, that brother is pretty indifferent to him.
When we talked on the phone this morning, Rang told me he was on his way to meet his brother. And now he isn’t receiving my calls. That means the meeting didn’t go well. I needed to meet him. I had already checked the bar he usually goes to and he wasn’t there.
“This little idiot is making me crazy!” I thought. Then a message came to my phone. Lee Rang had finally replied to my anxious texts.
“I’m home now. Too tired to talk.”
Seriously? This was his answer? I can’t believe it.
I angrily walked towards my car and started to head to his home. He was acting distant again. He was probably depressed. Thinking about it made me so sad. I wished he told me what’s going on with him honestly.
I didn’t bother knocking on the door since it’s never locked. When I walked inside, I found him sitting on the couch with a wine bottle on his hand.
“He’s drinking again. This is not good.” I thought.
He looked up and simply went back to enjoying his drinks without saying anything to me. I sat beside him.
“Will you tell me?” I asked.
“There’s nothing to tell.”
“I’m here for you, Rang.” I told him, “You can trust me.”
“Why did you come?” he turned to me and raised one of his eyebrows to look tough.
“I was worried about you.” I answered honestly. He turned away and started to gulp down the wine from the bottle.
“Is this about Yeon?” I finally asked.
He suddenly stopped and slowly turned to me, “Didn’t I mention that I was too tired to talk?”
How could he say something like that? Couldn’t he see how worried I have been? All this time, I was trying to understand him better. I did everything to make him feel like he wasn’t alone. I was always there for him when he needed me. All I’ve ever asked was to be honest with me. Can’t he at least do that?
“I wish you would trust me enough to tell me the truth.” I stood up. It was better to leave him when he is in a mess. Otherwise we’ll both end up hurting each other.
“y/n” he called from behind as I walked towards the door.
I looked back. I could see tears forming in his eyes as he slowly walked towards me.
“I’m sorry.” his voice shook.
I nodded and hugged him. He hold me into a tight embrace and started to sob. We stood like that for a while. When he finally stopped, he looked at me with a little confusion in his eyes.
“I guess,” I whispered, “this is the part where we kiss?”
He smiled, then took my face in both of his hands and finally kissed me...

if we were human
♚: lee rang x reader
❡: fluff??(angst, pure angst)
ⱳƈ: 2.5k
⚠︎: besides it being really bad? none really. like, literally a couple swears. it was fluff, and then it became angst, so...sorry, but not really because if i’m crying, so are you.
children could be heard all around the park. some screaming and laughing as they run behind, others crying after they tripped, only to soon be comforted by the gentle holds and hushed assurances of their mothers and fathers. a bit further away was a small dog park, from which came all kinds of barks and growl, as well as cooing of the passerby. and there at a bench, located slightly closer to the swings and slides attracting the younger humans, sat a man that looked less than pleased to be where he was.
“Guess who.” a female’s voice rang out as a soft hand covered his eyes. he merely rolled his eyes beneath their new coverings and proceeded to drag the small wrist away from his face. “y/n.”
the young woman sneered and scoffed before yanking her hand out of his grasp to walk around and join him on the bench. “I don’t like you.”
“I don’t like you either.” a smack to the back of the man’s head could be felt soon after the words left his mouth. “Yah!”
“What are you doing here anyway? I never took you for the people watching type.”
“That's because I'm not. As if they deserve that much attention.” a hand lazily lifted in the direction of a familiar little boy, the action bringing a smile to the woman’s face.
“Ahhhh. But that one’s the exception? I thought you didn’t like little kids with runny noses, something I heard you have in common with your brother actually. Is that a gumiho thing or a family thing?” the man she addressed turned his head to look at her with an unimpressed look.
“Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much? Or that you ask too many questions?”
“Well considering that was one of the first things you said to me when we met, I’ll just assume you know the answer to that already.”
she turned to look where the man’s gaze had previously been fixed and he followed suit. their eyes moved as they followed the movements of the young boy whose energy seemed to rival that of a puppy’s. ‘how fitting’ was the thought that came to the pair. minutes passed before they changed positions—the girl moving to settle her head on her company’s shoulder. said company shook her off before she repeated the action, leaving her be the second time. and he stayed in place even after she dragged his head to rest upon her own.
“Rang-ah.” the man simply grunted in response, urging her to continue. “I hate this.”
his eyebrows furrowed slightly at the sudden proclamation. “The kids? The families? Parks? I don’t really like them either. The first are messy and demanding, the second is an extremely unrealistic dynamic, and the last are way too loud and crowded.”
“No.” she took in her surroundings before speaking again. “This. I love all of this. I want it all. The kids are adorable and it feels so rewarding to be someone they rely on and look up to. I’ve had my fair share of family drama, but I’ve always wanted my own that I could cherish—pointless fights and all. And parks are probably one of my favorite places because it gives me everything I need to imagine what it’d be like if I had the first two.”
“What?” at her words he lifted his head to look down at her.
“I hate all of this shit that’s going on right now. It was one thing when you were just this occasional menace to your brother, but now the Imugi is involved and Lee Yeon refuses to let Ji Ah go again. It’s caused so many problems and with them, questions to be asked. Things could be so much simpler. Don’t you ever think about what life would be like if we were all human? This would all just be some petty high school drama. Like, Lee Yeon got class president in school and now, years later, both he and Imugi are CEOs competing in the nightclub industry or something like that.”
“You’re starting to sound like Lee Yeon. I guess you’re just as lame as him. Or maybe even lamer because really? That’s the best you can do with this fake drama?”
“Did I ever tell you that I ran into Soo Ho before you got the Tiger’s Brow back from him?” she ignored the questions, but her own annoyed him slightly. before he could respond. “I asked him if I could try them on and walked to the nearest window I could see myself in.”
“So, what’d you see? What were you? A Snake? A rat? Pufferfish?” her only response to his teasing was a pinch to the side. she shook her head before continuing.
“I saw a child.” her face changed to a solemn one. “All I saw was a snot-nosed little kid that the world seemed to have it out for. I didn’t even live long enough to have many firsts. And no one was ever there for the few I did. Well, there was one. Towards the end, I think my final year, I met an old lady. She lived alone, but she took me in the moment we crossed paths. She gave me my own room, let me help her cook, as much as a child could help, and she would always tell me these stories of her husband who had passed about a decade before. In just a few months, that woman gave me what felt like a lifetime of love. All while I was slowly dying, she made me forget the hardships, the neglect, the hatred, and by some cruel fate, she died first. But before she went, she said to me “treat my death as not another result of this terrible world, but take it as a sign that even when we know that our end is inescapable, we are able to cherish the temporary moments in which we are truly happy should we allow ourselves that much.” And so,”
the woman finally lifted her head from the gumiho’s shoulder to look into his eyes. “I think, if I could be reincarnated as a human again, I would. But since it’s probably never gonna happen I want to live like one. Get married, have a family, get mad when someone doesn’t show up for the holidays. I don’t know if I’d make it as a human with everything I know now, and I honestly don’t want to be human right-right now because I probably wouldn’t get to be around you. And I also just can’t imagine how you’d get by without seeing me every day.”
“Don’t act like you’re anything special.” he scoffed and looked back at the playground.
“You don’t have to admit it.” she stood up from the bench, looked over to the young boy he had taken in, and turned back. the woman grabbed his face and, after looking at the man for a few seconds, leaned in. “I know you love me.” and then she ran. “Soo Ho-ah! Let me play with you, that old fox is being mean again!”
“Yah!” he didn’t get up to chase her. she was right no matter how much he thought about it. somehow that weird girl wormed her way into the list of people he more than tolerated. and as he sat alone with his thoughts, he watched her play with the reincarnated boy, the latter seemingly winning their current sword fight.
does he ever wanna be human? no, it seems way too boring. does he like kids? he likes one, so that’s good enough. will he get married at some point? well, it’s just some rings and paper. and it’s not like he isn’t in love with that girl in the park.
bonus;
“Hey, y/n. If you’re watching this then...you know. I figured a couple good deeds might do me well in the afterlife, so what better way than finally letting my brother be with the girl he’s waited hundreds of years for.”
“You crazy bastard.” those were the only words that she could force her mouth to speak as she looked down at the small screen.
“I know you’re probably cursing me right now, thinking ‘this crazy bastard.’” somehow they both managed to let out a chuckle. “You know I don’t like vulgar words, but I’m not there, so i told Soo-Ho to pinch you for me every time one leaves your mouth.”
“Of course you did. It’s already a habit of his now.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye. Especially to you, Yu Ri, and Soo-Ho. I didn’t get to say thank you, either. You’ve all helped me more than I’d ever care to admit, but I really am grateful to have shared part of my life with you. I got to help Yu Ri like Lee Yeon helped me, got to meet Blacky again, and I got to experience so many things with you.”
the tears in her eyes were already brimming and it was clear they wouldn’t stay there long. “y/n.” she looked back to the screen as he called her name.
“go to the nightstand on the right of my bed and open the drawer.” the girl got up from her place at the edge of the bed and walked over to the wooden table. with her phone in her left, she used her right to open the drawer, and she could feel her heartbeat stutter as she laid her sights on the black velvet box that sat in it. she reached a shaky hand to pick it up, and when she flipped it open she couldn’t help dropping the phone as she brought the other to her mouth with a choked sob. all she could do was shake her head and let the tears subject themselves to gravity.
“Do you remember that day in the park?” despite not being able to actually see through the endlessly flowing tears, she managed to scramble around and find the device that had slipped from her grasp. “You were talking about all this stuff like marriage, family, kids—what it’d be like to be human because things would be so much simpler. And while I don’t think anyone could ever convince me that being human would be fun, I figured we could at least do some of those human things. We were kind of halfway there, you know? You practically live in my apartment, and Soo-Ho took over the living room with his toys, so it was only a matter of time for him to get his own room so I could stop stepping on legos—maybe get a door with a lock from the outside so I don’t have to worry about waking up covered in stickers.”
she laughed as she recalled the memory, his interactions with the little boy, and their goofy smiles when things were calm for once. “You dorks were made to follow each other into every life.”
“I was gonna propose to you after this whole thing was over. Once I knew Lee Yeon was safe and not being targeted by a wannabe dragon. I’m sorry I couldn’t give that to you or...our own kid, though I think the one we have now is pretty great. And I’m also really sorry that I’m finally telling you this once it’s too late, but you were right. About what you said that day.” her breath hitched as she saw the tears glisten while they slid down his face. “I love you.
as if it were clockwork, a sob made its way from her throat and the tears began again.
“Yah, stop crying already. Please. I’d be upset if I was the cause of it.” and she tried, she really did, but it wasn’t as easy as he made it sound. “And, I know this is probably asking a lot for all that I’ve put you through, but can you wear it? At least for a little bit. Just think of it as a way of honoring my memory—the better parts obviously. You can keep my apartment if you want, too. Soo-Ho might be a job better-fit for Sin-Ju and Yu Ri, but if he says he wants to stay with you, you better let him.”
another laugh emitted from between the sobs as she listened to his final message.
“I really do love you, y/n. And if there is ever a chance of us finding each other again, I’ll tell you every chance I get. Anyway, I think it’s time for me to go now. I only have a couple more minutes and I don’t think the others are gonna make it in time. I’m scared if I’m being honest, y/n. I’m afraid of being alone, but you helped me not feel like that all the way up to the end—I finally had a family. So thank you. Love you.” and he smiled his big, child-like smile before adding on, “And don’t tell Lee Yeon I said sorry, or thank you, or I love you that much in under ten minutes.”
and just like that, it was over. no more, dumb family feuds, no more naengmyeon with no eggs because someone would always steal it, no more Lee Rang. she stared at the paused screen for what felt like hours before setting it to the side on the bed, to do as he had asked. carefully,  she took the ring out from the safety of its cushions and slid it onto her left hand. she let out a shaky breath as she stared at her ring finger and she said it back, hoping that somehow, someway, he would hear it. “I love you too, Lee Rang-ah.”
it was a while before she moved from that spot—getting on her feet only to answer the door that had just rung. opening it, she could have seen the man who had taken the place of Lee Rang’s in the living world, but all she saw at that moment was an older brother who had also lost someone he loved.
“Lee Yeon-ah.” it was then that the male finally took in her appearance. she wore jeans, one of his brother’s sweaters, and her hair was in a bun that had clearly seen better days. but what really caught his attention as his eyes traveled, was the black box in her right hand, and shining silver band on her left. then he lifted his eyes back to hers to see just how tired she was. “Lee Yeon-ah. I miss him.”
the man simply brought her into his chest as she sobbed. and she cried, and she cried, and all the while he stood there with her in his embrace. it was all he could do, he couldn’t offer her words of comfort just yet because, even now she may be much stronger than he is. because she’s strong enough to live without the promise of his reincarnation. she knows she may never see him again, but won’t risk exchanging her life just so he won’t go through the same thing.
“I miss him so much.” her voice cracked as the words came out, and he ran his hand over her hair.
“I know, I know. I miss him, too.”

Welcome to another edition of Mind Melt On A Bun’s analysis and theories of TOTNT. I hope you all will enjoy this post, but fair warning it’s once again another VERY LONG POST! So if you want to turn on your thinking cap and face the risk of your brain blowing up into a million pieces then feel free to keep reading!

Snail Bride and Her Husband
Ureongi gaksi (우렁이 각시) or Snail Bride is a Korean legend which tells about a poor farmer who breaks a taboo and marries a woman who is actually a snail. One day while working in the rice paddy field, the farmer says to himself, “Who will I eat this rice with?”. To which a voice replied, “With me.”. Having heard this voice, the man turned around to see who it was, but only saw a snail. After having heard that, the man found that each day after returning home from work, a meal was always prepared for him.
Tumblr media
The farmer was curious of who had been preparing his meal. So one day he pretended to go to work in order to catch a sight of whoever it was that had been preparing his meal. To his surprise, he had seen a beautiful woman emerging from the snail shell. Having been blown away by her beauty, he immediately asked her to live with him instead of returning to the snail shell. However, the woman told him it was not time yet and to be patient. Being the persistent man that he was, he eventually got the Snail to marry him.
The farmer became plagued with the fear that his beautiful Snail Bride might one day be taken away from him so he instructed her to never leave the house. The Snail Bride listened to her husband and did as she was told until one day when her mother-in-law told the Snail Bride to go and deliver lunch to the farmer. And so, the Snail bride did as she was told. However, along the way, the Magistrate who was enamoured by her beauty decided to kidnap her and make her his bride. Despite the farmer’s many efforts, he never found his Snail Bride and ended up dying of a broken heart and being reborn as a blue bird. Tragic I know !!!

Anyways, when applying this story to TOTNT, you will find that Ji Ah’s boss had shared many similar characteristics to the farmer from the Snail Bride myth such as persistency. Other clues that supports the ideal that Ji Ah’s boss is the farmer can be seen in the conversation between Green Juice Lady. The first clue is his fear of flying. This could be seen as a side effect of him being reborn in a previous life as a blue bird. I bet if Ji Ah used those Eyebrows of a Tiger Glasses, she would see him as a bird blue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second clue was in what the Green Juice Lady said, “ What are you doing here?”. I interpreted this as her knowing him in the past as well as her not expecting to see the farmer’s reincarnated self in the same vicinity as the Snail Bride.
Tumblr media
Green Juice Lady Origin
In Korean mythology, there is a creature by the name of “Dueoksini/Dokeoksini” (두억시니는 ) that kills you by crushing your head (figuratively or literally). In Korean mythology, this creature is seen as an in between of a dokkaebi/goblin and a yokai. Because Dueoksinis have been mostly been forgotten throughout Korean literature, they are usually refer to as being a type of Korean Yokai.
Tumblr media
Or the way I like to view the Green Juice Lady is that she's basically Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and the Boggart rolled into one. After all its like Frank Hebert once wrote in Dune: “Fear is the mind killer”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taluipa
In TOTNT, the character Taluipa is seen as being the goddess of birth and fate, Sansin Halmoni. Besides having the ability of controlling birth and fate, Taluipa also can also foresee the future as well as grant immortality (i.e her husband). Given all of this, it is likely that her child, Bok Gil, would’ve had some pretty powerful abilities because he came from such a superior mother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now not much is known about Taluipa’s son other than he had committed suicide. Furthermore, the act of suicide was seen as a such a bad taboo that ensured he could never be reborn/reincarnated. In the context of TOTNT, it is inferred that even if you sacrifice yourself for the one you love, it is still considered suicide.
Lee Yeon’s Original Plan For the Imoogi
I think originally Lee Yeon had planned to take the Imoogi into himself and subsequently kill himself. However, when faced with the possibility that this would mean Lee Yeon could not be reincarnated, Ah Eum decided it was better that Lee Yeon killed her because at least she could be reincarnated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now you may think that well if Ah Eum sacrificed herself for the one she loves, isn’t that contradictory to what I said earlier about how sacrificing yourself for the one you love is still considered suicide and thus meant you couldn’t be reborn? It really doesn’t and here’s why. Remember that at this time, Ah Eum already had the Imoogi inside of her so her death by Lee Yeon’s hands were not seen as a sacrificial suicide. Rather, it was seen as him killing a greater evil and preventing the deaths of hundreds. Thus, this meant that Ah Eum could be reincarnated. Had Ah Eum ran into Lee Yeon’s knife or stabbed herself in the temporary moment she gain back control of her body, then that would’ve been seen as sacrificial suicide.
Tumblr media
If both Lee Yeon and Ah Eum were able to find a loop hole at the very last minute that ensured Ah Eum’s reincarnation, I am sure that this time around  Lee Yeon will be able to find a better loop hole given that he has had more time to than previously as well as learning from his past mistakes as it pertains to the Imoogi. I largely believe that this loop hole will have something to do with the favor Lee Yeon had asked of Taluipa’s husband. Maybe the favor Lee Yeon is asking Taluipa’s husband for is the elixir of life that is located in the Underworld (Hint: read my posts about Princess Bari). I think that Lee Yeon will want it just in case either him or Ji Ah dies in their battle against the Imoogi. Such an elixir could revive them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taluipa’s Son/Bok Gil = The Imoogi
As previously mentioned, I had theorized that Taluipa’s son, Bok Gil, must have been one hell of a powerful being given that his mom was a powerful Goddess herself. As to what those abilities could have been, it is still a mystery. However, I feel like his powers would’ve been connected the ones Taluipa had (i.e birth, fate, and ability to see what others cannot see). Again, not much was mentioned about him other than he committed suicide and that his name was Bok Gil.
Tumblr media
Now let’s look at the Imoogi, we know that he has the power of life (bringing the bird back to life), death (sucking the life out of his nannies), and rebirth (being reborn as that boy).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the way, I think it’s interesting that the cycle of life, death, and rebirth is represented as an “Ouroboros” or a snake eating its tail. Coincidence? I think not.
Tumblr media
Anyways back to what else we know about the Imoogi. We know that he was born in a leap year as well as being born in a place between the living and dead (btw Lee Yeon was born in 420AD also a leap year..possible connection somehow?). The Imoogi could also see what others don’t see such as your soul and your deepest emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you think about it, when Bok Gil committed suicide, his soul/body was neither in the land of the living nor the dead. He was in between those two realms or in limbo. Connecting this to the fact that the Imoogi said he was born in a place between the living and dead, there is a significant possibility that Bok Gil is indeed the Imoogi. Furthermore, if you look at the kinds of power the Imoogi has and the powers that Taluipa has, you will find that they are strangely similar or related. If that doesn’t convince you enough then just compare the voice of Bok Gil to that of the Imoogi!
Tumblr media
Imoogi and Lee Yeon
Initially, I had thought the Imoogi had wanted Lee Yeon for his fox bead (a kind of Yeouiju) so that it could become a dragon, but now I am beginning to think there’s more to the story than just Lee Yeon’s bead. If indeed Bok Gil is the Imoogi then I am left to wonder what kind of relationship did Lee Yeon have with Bok Gil before he died. Furthermore, could Lee Yeon have been part of the reason why Bok Gil committed suicide in the first place? If Lee Yeon had been part of the reason why Bok Gil committed suicide, then I can totally understand why Bok Gil/Imoogi would want to try to exact his revenge and/or anger on Lee Yeon. Maybe Bok Gil was jealous of Lee Yeon for getting more attention from his own parents than he was or maybe Lee Yeon got the girl he was interested in or maybe Lee Yeon was really mean and had bullied him or maybe the person who Bok Gil had died for (aka a loved) was somehow connected to Lee Yeon. I don’t know, I’m just purely theorizing and for all we know all the Imoogi wants is just Lee Yeon’s fox bead so that it can become a dragon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Black and White Imagery
Other things I found interesting is the usage of black and white in Ep 8. For example, the shirts Lee Rang and Lee Yeon wears, the colors of the stones of the “Go Game”, and the cars in the background of the parking lot Lee Yeon was in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Typically, the color combination of black and white represents Yin/Yang, Good/Evil, and Life/Death. In either cases, the concept is the same. Both represent the concept of dualism or the ideal that everything is interdependent, interconnected, and interrelated. Meaning you can’t have Yin without Yang, Good without Evil, and Life without Death. Or in the case of Lee Yeon standing in between the two cars and the two doors, both Lee Rang and Ah Eum/Ji Ah’s lives and fate were interdependent, interconnected, and interrelated to that of Lee Yeon’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 9 Predictions
Lee Yeon will get Lee Rang out of the Forest of the Preta and Lee Rang will realize that his brother never really abandoned him in the first place. Additionally, their time in the Forest of the Preta is like a blessing in disguise because it helped both brothers to resolve the misunderstanding that occurred 600 years ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now with Ji Ah, I think she will overcome her fear of the car accident. However I think she will be faced with another fear of hers which is seeing Lee Yeon die. I think she will overcome this too, but the Green Juice Lady will pull out one last trick out of the bag. Instead of making Ji Ah relieve some of her worst nightmares, she will make Ji Ah live in a world where all her dreams have come true such as having her parents back and Lee Yeon by her side. The Green Juice Lady will do this as a way to make sure that Ji Ah would never want to leave. After all, why leave a world where all your dreams come true right? Plus, Ji Ah’s mentality will become weaker because she will start to believe that the dream world she is living in is a reality. Therefore, in order to win against the Green Juice Lady, one must have a strong mind that is not killed by fear nor weaken by fantastical delusions.
Tumblr media
This kind of reminds of the creature, “Black Mercy”, from Super Girl. Briefly, “Black Mercy” is alien parasite that makes its host dream their perfect fantasy world while it feeds off of them. The only way for the host to get the “Black Mercy” to detach itself is for the host to realize that the fantasy world they are living in is not real. So for Ji Ah, maybe she would have to do the same on her own or it would take Lee Yeon coming into her dreamworld in order for her to realize this.
Tumblr media
Last Remarks
For all of those who are still left confused as to why Lee Yeon chose to save Lee Rang first, you can check it out here:
https://mindmeltonabun-blog.tumblr.com/post/633271037441818624/tale-of-the-nine-tailed-ep-7-thoughts-and
And if you’re too lazy to click/read all of that post, I’ll put it simply here:
In the past, Lee Yeon chose to go after Ah Eum first instead of saving Lee Rang from the villagers burning down the mountain. So this time around Lee Yeon did not want to make the same mistake twice and also Lee Yeon wanted to atone for his past mistakes. Plus, Lee Yeon knew that between Lee Rang and Ji Ah, Lee Rang had the weaker mentality so he would need more saving than Ji Ah would.

Happy Readings! I need a drink now after writing all of this !

The One Who Cared The Most
This is gonna be my long ass thoughts of Rang’s character so if you’re also invested to our pyscho baby fox buckle your seatbelt, be furious and cry with me.
From the beginning I already knew that Rang would be a goner because that’s what always happen to my favorite characters ha. But man they gave him such a beautiful character growth I was still caught off guard in the end even though the death flags were everywhere. I tried my best to ignore it hoping the writer is on her right mind but no. His character was written so well it will never be easy to let him go.
Rang was left by his mother to die and abandoned by his brother for romance. He spent hundreds of years alone, missing his brother, and being a puppet. It would’ve been better if yeon just killed him on their encounter I bet that is what he also wished for deep inside. In the beginning yeon can’t figure out how he changed so much from being a kid who cannot ignore an injured puppy to someone who is okay in killing anyone. Yeon cannot figure it out because he was dismissive of his feelings all those years but I as a viewer saw that he didn’t changed at all. It’s just that his brother didn’t pay attention. It was proven by the following episodes where we saw him rescued the puppy and go all soft to soo oh (black puppy huhu). Even in the spin off episodes we were given a glimpse of how lonely he was but still cared deep inside. He didn’t get much enough love and care, but he was able to share and give it to others especially to Yuri and Soo Oh. Just like yeon said “love is passed on in an uncanny way”. He was still a kid trapped in an adult’s body who was traumatized but tried to cover it up by troubling his brother who in reality he yearns to be with the most.
It became more painful when we started to see him finally become genuinely happy. He was freed from the contract and fixed his relationship with his brother. He was able to become and act like his true self. A person who is all smiles and only looks up at his brother. But as always, it didn’t last long. He was stabbed by the person he trusts the most and his brother was fixated on saving his lover. In episode 11 when they switched we even learned that he was convinced that the reason yeon chose jiah was because she didn’t cling to her family tragedy unlike him. How I wished yeon told him that his pain was justified because he did abandon him. It felt like he only started to care for rang when he had something to do with jiah urghh I’m so mad.
Now let’s jump to the last 2 episodes. It was such a painful watch. A very painful one. He finally got his brother back, has a kid to take care of, but got caught up in a mess again due to his brother’s romance. It was so sad to see yeon asked him to be the one to kill him, what yeon did was just add more trauma to rang. He knows himself he cannot do it but due to his love for his brother he was able to. His scream and sobs were so painful to see, the way he wiped his brother’s blood in his hand was too much for me to handle. Now to the last episode, I WAS COMPLETELY DEVASTATED AND I KNOW WE ALL ARE. He suffered alone for 600 years but got only to be happy for 6 months. He finally got his newfound family who takes care of him, who makes him laugh, who he eats meals with, who he watches tv with, who he walks on night outside with, who sends him off when he goes out and welcomes him back when he goes home. He already got it all and I bet even though they tried to make us believe that he still wanted to bring yeon back but we all know that he would’ve eventually moved on with the help of his new family.
Rang’s sacrifice was so unnecessary and I will be always frustrated with the way they made him go. The writer just showed that jiah and yeon’s romance was more important than rang’s happiness with his family. He wasn’t even able to say a proper goodbye to them. A final hug would’ve been more painful but I still wanted it. All he was able to do was leave them with a smile. Just like what yeon said he must have been scared being alone T.T but I know the sight of his family coming to him comforted him at least. Kim Bum’s acting was so brilliant there he got no lines but I knew what Rang wanted to say. That he is happy that there were people who truly cared for him and will cry for him. He is relieved that he will be at ease leaving them because he knew yuri and soo oh are in good hands with shinju. That although their time was short it was one of the best he had. “In my next life I hope I’ll meet you again as my family”. He even had their picture as his wallpaper oh god made the scene 1000x sadder.
Here comes the video message scene. It took me 3 days to gather my thoughts about it but it still hurts until now. The background music that was playing just made it worse. First I just want to talk about how his phone is full of photos of yuri, soo oh, and shinju he really wanted to cherish their moments together. His message to yeon oh god I still cry about it every time I think of it and when I see posts on it. The word “Hyeong” automatically echoes inside my mind. The way he tried to play it off and be cool about it but ended up a sobbing mess. I like how he said he will not apologize for troubling his brother because he was the bigger jerk since it was true. What made it 10000x tragic was that Rang wasn’t ready to let go. He wanted to stay so much and experience the life he had always been dreaming off. He wanted to call yeon “hyeong” many times. He wanted to live so much. He didn’t want to give up at that moment (I will hate the writer forever with this). Seriously, I can’t even talk about it without crying because Rang deserves so much better. The smile he gave one last time was full of regret, sadness, fear, relief, and hope that they will meet again in his next life (someone give kim bum his oscar please). His character was used as a scapegoat to bring the leads their happy ending. I totally feel cheated by the writer on this one they almost made me believe in the first 30 mins of the last episode that they will spare him but nah.
To conclude, Lee Rang was such a beautifully written character and well executed by Kim Bum that it will stay with me for a long time. Regardless of the things he did wrong even though he was sometimes a jerk (which was justifiable) we all know that he was just yearning for his brother’s love. Rang, if only given the chance will love and care for others without reservation even if the ones, he loves the most will not return the same feeling in the same degree. His passing, though a cause of my gut wrenching sobs, was beautiful. I so wanted him to learn to embrace love again and I’m glad at least he died knowing that he did something meaningful. I’ll just take comfort to the idea that he died knowing that he was loved and that he, too, loved well.

구미호뎐 | 이동욱 Lee Dong Wook VLIVE 2020.11.18 - *VS* Game
In which Lee Dong Wook’s promotional team present him with ridiculous Tale of the Nine Tailed-themed questions to answer (and the occasional embarrassing line to perform). Full transcription below the cut.
Full Transcript [0:37:41~1:08:30]
Intro
Then, now in earnest we’ll... (breaks down laughing at himself). Don’t I talk a lot? Right? I mean, every week they release a behind the scenes video, right? And in all of them it’s just me talking the whole time. Of course, I really sort of joked around a bit on set. Well, not a bit. I joked around a ton on set, with the staff and the with the other actors, I did have fun playing around a lot and I did that but...I mean I was just talking so much, all by myself [in the BTS]. It was to the extent that I thought, ‘Hey, what’s with this? Is that why I was so exhausted?’ (chuckles). Yes (chuckles more). I’m a chatterbox, a chatterbox, a chatterbox.
Well, in any case, we’ve now had free talk for about 40 minutes (chuckling at himself), so now we’ll start the first activity prepared for me by my promotional team in earnest.
[Looking to his staff] What might the first activity be? [Staff shoves a box full of folded slips of paper towards him silently]. (Breaks into laughter) [To the staff] Well what is this? [*silence*] (Bursts into a fit of laughter watching the staff) No, it’s not that, it’s just, will you die if you talk here? No, everyone, it’s fine if you talk. Everyone, promotional team...
[To the viewers again] Right now there are five members of my promotional team in front of me, six including my manager, but they won’t say a single word (laughing), like people who will die if they speak. [To his staff] I just have to pick one? Ah, if I pick one I’ll naturally understand? Understood. Then I’ll, (more laughter). In that case, I’ll pi- (bursts into another fit of laugher). Understood. Then I’ll pick one.
[Selects a paper] Okay! I picked one. They’re telling me that if I pick one I’ll naturally come to understand, so I picked one. [Holding the paper up] I see, it’s a VS game.
Q: Who is the strongest whiner? [0:39:48~]
A. Sajang who is whining to give him the Chinese lantern plant - VS - B. Yoo Ri who is whining to save Lee Rang-nim
(Laughing) [To his staff] Yah~ the question is really cute. Did you all prepare this? Oh, I see. This is cute.
[Re-reads the question] I think, in any case, for this one, I can’t help but think that Sajang who is whining to give him the Chinese lantern plant is the strongest whiner. I mean, as a human being, if you’ve lived for hundreds of years isn’t it enough already? While torturing people, while eating the Chinese lantern plant, do you really have to cling to life? I can’t help but think that... (trails off)
⇒ A
Ah, and Eom Hyo Seob-sunbae who plays Sajang acted together with me in Life [2018], so when I met him again this time I was happy to see him. In Life he was the head of the Cancer Center, and I was a fellow in the Emergency Medical Center, so on set I used to call him ‘Mr. Cancer Center Chief’ (laughing). I would be like, ‘Mr. Cancer Center Chief, you’re here!’ like that. Well, in any case, there was that behind the scenes, a very slight, a very slight TMI.
[Note: Sa-jang-nim is actually just his job title meaning ‘head of a company’ while ‘Am-center-jang-nim’ means ‘head of the Cancer Center.’ LDW was basically using his title from Life instead of his title in TotNT.]
(Clears his throat) Okay then I’ll pick the next one. [Pulls another slip] I’ve picked it. [Spends a second debating where to place the box of questions]. I’ve picked one.
Q: Which scene was the most moving to Lee Yeon? [0:41:33~]
A. The scene where he saved Ji Ah after he returned in a near-death state from the Knife Mountain Hell - VS -  B. The scene where he went to save Lee Rang who stood on death’s door in the Forest of the Starved
Yah, but for this one, isn’t the question framed wrong? In this case, these kids were the ones who were moved by me, weren’t they? (Laughs)
[Looking at his staff] No? Oh, talk! Please just talk! (Dies laughing)
[Looks back at the viewers] For this, I would have to ask these two though? I’d have to ask these two, for this one, I think that rather than Lee Yeon being moved, these were scenes where these two were probably moved by Lee Yeon. But in any case, the ending to episode 4 here and the ending of episode [8] where I go to save Rang-ie, they’re both meaningful. They’re iconic scenes that you can’t miss in our drama, they’re precious scenes, so I like both of them.
⇒ x
[Noting the heart count in the VLIVE app]
[Reading the live chat] I’m not going to call them. Those two are both busy people who each have their own lives so for me to suddenly call them would be an irresponsible thing to do. For today’s VLIVE, please just be satisfied watching me. I’m not going to call Kim Beom-ssi or Jo Bo Ah-ssi.
Then, moving on to the next question...
Q: If you had to have one as a morning desert, would you choose: [0:43:28~]
A. Meal worms that taste like mint chocolate ice cream - VS - B. Mint chocolate ice cream that tastes like meal worms
If you had to have one as a morning desert, would you choose: ‘meal worms that taste like mint chocolate ice cream’ ‘aish~ (laughing). [Knocks over the white board and fixes it] Okay, ‘mint chocolate flavored meal worms’ or, ‘meal worm flavored mint chocolate ice cream’? (chuckling - 3rd gif).
[To his staff] Who’s ever tried eating meal worms? What do they even taste like, meal worms?
Ah what’s with this~ How am I supposed to choose one of these? (Ponders the question for a bit) So I’ll choose B. Meal worm-flavored mint chocolate ice cream. (Sighs) Don’t you think it would at least be better to be eating ice cream? Rather than eating insects that taste like mint chocolate, I’ll eat ice cream. (Shaking his head) Ah~ that’s hard.
⇒ B
[Reading the live chat] Oh, it tastes nutty? Eh? You tried eating it? You’re saying you tried eating meal worms when you were seven? Who would try eating meal worms? There’s a lot of interesting people...
[Selecting another paper] Okay, next.
Q: If you had to dispose of one of your abilities which would you choose? [0:45:25~]
A. The ability to control nature - VS - B. The teleportation ability to move anywhere in an instant
Wah~ You can’t miss out on either of them though? Ah~ There’s nothing more appealing than the ability to teleport. Everyone, please think about it. How much time each day do we loose on the road? On our way to school, on our way to work, getting off work, going to cram school. If you save that time, you can get that much more sleep, right? That’s a really big [merit]. And think about it. When coronavirus ends and you can travel abroad again. Then you can use teleportation to go abroad instantly. You don’t have to spend like 14 hours on a plane.
The ability to control nature, how cool is this? This is really something that not just anybody can do. (Sighs while pondering the question again) Even so, if I had to give up one of them...I would give up my ability to teleport. I would use my ability to control nature and like...make it rain when there’s a drought, or make the rain stop when it rains too much, make the wind blow where there’s need of wind, that’s how I’d like to use my power. That’s what I’d do, yes.
⇒ B
[Talking to his staff] Oh~ you guys really did a good job coming up with difficult and weird questions. Really, the promotional team’s performance right now is really beyond my expectations. [Looking at a member of his staff] (chuckles) You really don’t ever smile, do you? (Laughing) Okay, continuing on, then...
Mission: “Don’t fly away. Your puppy will cry.” [0:47:15~]
‘Don’t fly away, your puppy will cry.’ [Looks to his staff] What’s this? You’re telling me to do this? (Looks at the paper for a while) You’re telling me to do this? Ah, this one’s a mission? So there’s not just VS questions, huh?
[To the viewers] Today, before doing the VLIVE, they told me about this corner and asked if I wanted to see the game ahead of time, and I said ‘I won’t. It’ll be more fun if I’m seeing it for the first time,’ but now I’m wishing I’d looked at it in advance. (Looks at the paper and sighs)
[To his staff] I have to do this like in the drama, don’t I? Is that right? (Laughs hollowly and puts his head down on the table) Ah~ I’m going crazy, seriously... (Puts his hands up to his face like in the drama but then can’t handle it and puts his head down on the desk again) ‘Aish~
[Softly to his staff] Everyone get out. Everyone go out. I want to be by myself.
“Don’t fly away, your puppy will cry~” (Performs the line but then can’t take his hands away from his face in embarrassment. Takes a long moment to collect himself)
(Sits up with his eyes closed) [Staff start clapping] Everyone get out. Leave before I open my eyes. I want to be by myself. If I open my eyes I think I’ll be really embarrassed so leave. (Waits a minute before opening his eyes, sighs, and then turns and calls to his staff). Team Manager, is there any soju? (chuckles) Okay, I understand.
[To the viewers] Ah, the promotional team really went and prepared a lot of things that I didn’t even imagine. Thanks a lot [said very formally but also without any sincerity whatsoever lol].
Q: If you were to be born again as a human, would you prefer to be: [0:49:25~]
A. A rich unemployed person - VS - B. A civil servant guaranteed employment until retirement
Of course it’s unconditionally A, right! There’s no need to even think this one over. Ah! (covers his mouth) Actually there are a lot of students watching right now. Everyone, you still need to study hard. We can’t be unemployed, right?
But I’m going with a rich unemployed person. OK.
⇒ A
Okay, next. [To his staff] I have to do all of these, right? (Answering his own question) Well, because I have to pay respect to the work you put into preparing them...hmmm [To his staff] Team Manager, that soju, can you put it into a water bottle and just... (laughs) Ah, it’s hot~
(Opens the next slip of paper and yells in chagrin) Ah, this!
Q: A never-ending battle? [0:50:12~]
A. Amazing Saturday - VS - B. Yoo Quiz
[Note: This question requires context so bear with me or skip to the next one. ;)
As part of the promotional rounds for TotNT, Lee Dong Wook, Jo Bo Ah, and Kim Beom appeared on Ep.128 of the quiz show, Amazing Saturday. There, they made a bet with the regular cast surrounding one of the quiz answers where whoever lost the bet would have to give a shout out to the other program (so if the TotNT cast won, the Amazing Saturday cast would have to promote the drama on their other variety shows, and if the AS cast won, the TotNT cast would have to reference AS in TotNT). They lost, and Lee Dong Wook promised he would reference AS at some point in an adlib. (This whole segment was actually really great because everyone figured it would be impossible and LDW was just like, ‘Call! I accept the challenge. I can do that.’ You can watch it here from about 5:50~)
LDW upheld his promise in EP05 when Yeon and Ji Ah go drinking and they compare the things they like. When LDW threw out the question he asked, ‘Yoo Quiz (another program that a close friend of his appears on) or Amazing Saturday?’ So then he felt apologetic towards Yoo Quiz and ended up sending them a coffee truck when Gong Yoo (Goblin, 2016) appeared as a guest on the program about a week or so before this VLIVE took place....so even though he’d finally managed to sort everything out, his staff are basically inciting him by asking him to choose again lol]
[Takes a moment before addressing the viewers] Just when I had finally finished all my reparations...(Nodding to himself) Just when I had finished all my reparations another wave is going to happen. (Looks at the paper for a long time) I’d like to appear on both programs sometime. If Amazing Saturday would invite me again, and Yoo Quiz please invite me sometime. I’ll just leave it at that. (Sighs) It’s hard, it’s hard.
⇒ x
[Takes a moment to drink some water and reiterate the things he wrote on his white board]
[Reading the live chat] Ah, it’s water, it’s water! It’s not soju, it’s not soju. This has been here since earlier. Everyone don’t misunderstand, that’ll be a big problem. There’s no way I’d do a live broadcast while drinking alcohol. Bad things would happen. No, please don’t misunderstand.
[Reading the live chat] It’s water, it’s water, yes. Please don’t misunderstand.
[Gives a shout out to the overseas fans and thanks them for the coffee trucks and gifts]
[Reading the live chat] My alcohol tolerance? My alcohol tolerance differs from day to day, but I never drink so much that I’m completely drunk or lose control of myself. I only ever drink enough that I’m still in good possession of myself and able and get home safely.
Then, continuing on. There are... (counts them) six left. There are six left, so I’ll continue...
[Suddenly thinks of something and looks to his staff] Are there more missions in here? You’re not going to tell me, are you? In any case. Alright. (To himself) How can I avoid picking those? Well, I have to do them all anyway...
(Opens the next one, reads it, and chuckles) [To his staff] You guys are crazy, seriously...
Q: If they were both drowning, who would you save first? [0:53:24~]
A. Ji Ah - VS - B. Shin Joo
If they fell in the water, if they fell in the water....Ah~ So this is how Shin Joo felt yesterday, this is how he felt. Yah~ ‘If they were both drowning, who would you save first, Ji Ah or Shin Joo?’ Ah~ I understand our actor Hwang Hee’s feelings. I understand Shin Joo’s feelings (sighs, then remembers something and chuckles).
[Note: This question is a reference to an exchange on Instagram. In preparation for an interview with Esquire, Hwang Hee posted on his Instagram inviting people to ask him TotNT-related questions. So Lee Dong Wook (who doesn’t run his own Instagram and isn’t on social media) texted a bunch of questions to Kim Beom and Jo Bo Ah to ask in his place. One question that he had Jo Bo Ah ask was, ‘If Lee Yeon and Yoo Ri were both drowning, who would you save?’ to which Hwang Hee responded, ‘That water, I will drink it all.’ lol]
[Looking directly at the camera] ‘That water, I will drink it all.’ (breaks into laughter) I’ll drink all of the water...Even if my water consumption goes badly I’ll do my best to save both of them.
[Reading the live chat] Ah, that’s right! I’m a mountain god so I can just make the wind blow like this and just part the water, I just need to do that. Why didn’t I think of that? As expected, the fans who are posting comments here are much smarter than me. Thank you.
That’s right. I was a mountain god. But I completely forgot that...
⇒ x
I’m not a really fast swimmer or anything but I’m still decent and I like playing in the water. I mentioned Life briefly earlier as well, but while shooting Life, free... (catches sight of something and starts laughing)
[Holds up a slip of paper with the words ‘Are you angry?’ written on it - lol] I’ve just received this message from my promotional team. No, not at all, what are you saying? I’m not mad. I’m not mad, and we can talk about more detailed things after the broadcast is over.
[Turns back to the viewers] When I was shooting Life, I learned free diving. I’d dive into about 10m deep water, so I don’t have any big rejection (fear) of water. But the ocean is different. Because the ocean has waves and undertow, you really need to be careful.
[Reading the live chat] I can’t do the butterfly stroke. The butterfly stroke is diffic-  [Catches sight of the next prompt card and stops speaking mid-sentence. Drops the paper, sits back, and sighs lol]
(Holding the paper up reluctantly for the viewers to see)
Mission: “Part this darkness and lead me to that woman!” [0:55:32~]
(Long sigh)
[To his staff] How did you manage to pick all the most...these sort of lines, everyone?
(Reads the line out and laughs) You really went and picked just these kinds of lines one after another....I’ll do it standing, I’ll do it standing. Since I’m doing it anyway, I’ll do it standing.
(Spreads his arms wide and delivers the line like in the drama, then slowly sinks to the floor and makes like he’s going to crawl under the desk)
(Returns to his seat as one staff member starts clapping) [Looking at the person] Don’t clap. That’s more cheeky, don’t clap. Yah, if you’re going to clap you should all have clapped, what’s with just one person clapping? (laughs) Agh~
Even so, since today the broadcast was cancelled, even if I’m a bit...embarrassed or whatever, if you can enjoy yourselves, I’m satisfied with that. Yes. (Sighs again) This is definitely going around the internet as gifs, isn’t it? [Lol it definitely did] Yes, well, but in service of alleviating your disappointment at the broadcast being cancelled, I can handle this much. (Nods to himself) Okay, then continuing on...
Q: If you had to wear the same outfit and hairstyle for the rest of your life, would you choose: [0:58:02~]
A. The clothing of a mountain god + dark hair styled with pomade - VS - B. A suit + red and silver long hair
(Already laughing as he reads the question - gifs 1&2). Hey, this is essentially that right? Either the clothes are the mountain god clothes and the hair is dark and combed back with pomade in a modern style, or wear a suit with the mountain god hair, right?
[Directing the question to the live chat] Everyone please choose. Which do you think would suit me? What do you think would suit me, everyone please choose for me. Please send me your choice via the chat. I’ll choose whatever you choose.
Ah, this is really, the balance on this is really no joke. Wah~ This is really hard. Wah~  I mean, wearing a suit with that mountain god hair (breaks down laughing) Ah, how could you live your life like that? (more laughter) Ah, okay, I know. I know that this isn’t for real. And I know that there’s no way it could happen, too. But why do I end up taking it so seriously? Because I can’t help but keep picturing it (laughs).
[Checks the live chat] Oh? There are a ton of B’s? There are way more B’s than A’s? I see. I understand. In that case, if it ever became like this, if I could only wear one outfit and have one hairstyle for the rest of my life, I would have the suit and the mountain god (breaks into laughter before finishing his sentence) I’ll have the mountain god hair. Yah~ this one...the balance was good. Ah~ of all the questions in this VS game so far I think maybe the balance on this was the best.
⇒ B
Okay, then continuing on...Everyone, there are still 3 questions left. I have to do three more questions.
[Takes a water break]
Then I will continue with the game.
Q: Which term of affection would you prefer to hear from Ji Ah? [1:00:55~]
A. OPPA - VS - B. My puppy
‘What term of affection would you want to hear from Ji Ah? O-P-P-A, VS, my puppy.’ [He literally spells out the word in English here instead of just saying oppa lol]
Hm~ Hm~ [Takes a break to check the chat and reiterates that he’s drinking water and not soju] Please stop chatting that it’s soju. I’m going to get in trouble with Naver. That’d be bad, really bad. It’s water, don’t misunderstand.
[Returning to the prompt] ‘What term of affection would you want to hear from Ji Ah? O-P-P-A, VS, my puppy.’ Within the drama, Ji Ah has never once called me oppa, right? From the very beginning, she just uses banmal (chuckles) And from the very beginning she says ‘I waited for you (neo)’, right? [Note: ‘neo’ can be a bit rude, or at the very least isn’t polite]. So I think if she called me oppa it would be really awkward. I think, I just want Ji Ah to dote on me. So I’ll pick ‘my puppy.’ Because foxes are canines too.
⇒ B
Q: What makes you more angry? [1:02:15~]
A. When Imoogi fixates on Ji Ah - VS - B. When Sajang tries to drive a wedge between you and Lee Rang
Ah, okay, things that make Lee Yeon angry, right? ‘What makes Lee Yeon more angry?’ (Reads out the options) Ah~ This one is a bit... the balance doesn’t crumble in this situation. This one is definitely A.
To be honest, when Sajang tries to drive a wedge between the brothers, because I’m perfectly capable of resolving that myself, and I actually did resolve it in the drama, so that’s not a big problem. Also, I think that Lee Rang isn’t the type to fall for that either...
But when Imoogi fixates on Ji Ah, at those times, yes, a bit - well, not a bit - I get very angry.
That’s why, there’s that [scene] in the drama right? Where we’re fighting on the rooftop, and Imoogi says something about Ji Ah so I get angry and say ‘this XX,’ like that. And when he’s got ahold of Ji Ah’s shoulder, I show up and say I’ll break his wrist and such...yes.
⇒ A
[Reading the live chat] ‘When this is over is the promotional team going to be okay?’ Of course! They’re safe. It’s been amusing for me too. Only one question is left.
[Reading  the live chat] ‘Are you close with Lee Tae Ri-nim?’ Yes, we’re close. All of us actors in Tale of the Nine Tailed are close and doing well.
[Reading the live chat] ‘If you mess with Ji Ah, Lee Yeon won’t stand for it, right?’ That’s right.
[Reading the live chat] ‘Long time no see, Lee Yeon’ (quoting Imoogi). Yeah, long time no see~
[redacted]
[Reading from the live chat] ‘I pray that at least one of those is a normal mission’ (laughs) [To his staff] Yah, look at that. Even the fans are telling you they hope it’s a normal mission. Okay, the last mission. [Holds up the empty box and reads off the title] ‘Do You Really Want to See It, Lee Dong Wook’s VLIVE?’, the last mission. Ah! I said mission, but. The last, I’ll now attempt to pick the last VS. It might not be a mission. Okay, what’ll it be? Ta-da! Ah~ it wasn’t a mission.
Q: If you had to experience hell one more time, which would you choose? [1:06:27~]
A. The Knife Mountain Hell full of knives - VS - B. The Forest of the Starved full of agwi?
(Blows out a long breath and contemplates the question for a while) This is hard. Why is this hard, you ask? I had a really really hard time filming both sequences. I went through a lot filming both, and the memories of those times keep flashing across my mind...Even so, I....
[Reading the live chat] ‘This question stresses me out.’ ‘I hate both.’ ‘There’s no end to the Forest of the Starved even if you die, right?’ ‘I really hate the Forest of the Starved.’ You’re right.
[Reading the live chat] ‘The knives hurt don’t they?’ That’s right.
[Reading the live chat] ‘Wah~ Isn’t this too cruel?’ [To his staff] Everyone, isn’t this too cruel, they say.... It’s not?
Okay, If I had to experience one again....I will not go to hell. I won’t choose~
⇒ x
Okay, with this, I played the VS game, and the occasional missions hidden in between, that my promotional team put a lot of effort into preparing for us. This was fun. [To his team] You did a really good job choosing the questions (nodding). Thank you all. Thanks (claps).
~~~
Wow, that was long! If you read this far, thanks for your attention and please consider liking or reblogging to let me know. I also posted a transcription of some of the Q&A that follows this, so please check that out as well if you’re interested. Annyeong~!
the duller the knife, the deeper the scars
If we want to make it out alive, we’ve got to let the anger die
A Tale of the Nine Tailed fanfiction by radiowrites (RaisedonRadio on AO3).
One shot, late Episode 15 timeline, extended scene. Ki Yu Ri & Lee Rang.
Read it on AO3 or Below the Cut!
Hi everyone, this is my first fic in this fandom. I've generally kept to the spelling of names from the Viki subs since that was what I was most familiar with. Title and summary thanks to lyrics from Against the Current's 'that won't save us'.
Timeline is late episode 15, when Yu Ri tries to stop Rang from entering the Afterlife Immigration Building. Huge spoilers if you aren't that far in the series!
The steps beneath Yu Ri’s feet were so, so cold. The stone gave nothing, it only took, like the people who controlled the building in front of her. The Afterlife Immigration Office. Such a silly name for such a place.
The Imoogi had told her to stay put. He had a name, and she didn’t care. This place doesn’t allow pets, he had told her, and she had felt anger, and relief, and disgust. How can she feel such conflicting emotions all at once?  She wanted to tear that smug look off his flawless face, and she wanted to curl up on the steps and cry. Because he had left her there to stall Lee Rang.
So she stood on the stairs, uncertain if her motives were her own, or if they had been implanted there from the Imoogi. He had been in her head too many times, outwardly laughing at her fears.
You’re so unbalanced, he had said with that cruel smile. Who raised you? A human?
Footfalls approached, and she jerked upright, strengthening her stance as Rang appeared.
He took in her rigid posture and sighed. In exasperation? Or was he just being theatrical?
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
She pulled her small curved blade from her hair. A Karambit, Rang had called it when he had given it to her. Believed to be modeled after a tiger’s claw. But, she knows now, she is just a fox. As she brandished the blade, his attention caught on its smooth movement, a memory reflex from the time she used it on him.
“You can’t go in, Mister Lee Rang,” she said. “Never.”
“Yu Ri, I’m here to save you and Lee Yeon,” he said, his words slow, calculated. “If something happens to Lee Yeon, I’m going to kill you.”
And she believes it, but this is the only thing she is capable of. She already almost lost him, by her own hand, if not her own mind.
“Please forgive me. This is to protect you, Mister Lee Rang.”
He nods, eyes already looking past her. Certain someone had come up behind her, she faltered, and he lunged forward and buried his fist in her diaphragm. How, how did she fall for such a simple trick? Had he not taught her better than that? She collapsed, no air left in her lungs, the stone hard on her wrist, the other hand wrapped around her middle.
He walked past her and entered the building.
Yu Ri huddled on the step, not far from where she had started earlier. She kept her eyes on the door, uncaring that she had left her back exposed. No one would be coming from that direction at this point. All the key players were inside. She should be in there too, but her presence would only be used as blackmail against Rang. Perhaps she was lucky to have been left out here by the Imoogi. She just wished she hadn’t also been left out here by Rang, too.
She heaved in a breath. The air iced her lungs, cooling the ache beneath her ribcage. The pain radiated higher, as if her heart was the thing that had been struck.
How long had it been? Minutes? Hours? She rocked on her heels and went to wrap her arms around herself, and startled when she realized her knife was still clenched in her hand.
As she looked down at her open palm, the blade glinted in the dark. Her memory of it coated in Rang’s blood flooded her senses.
It clattered against the stone when she dropped it. Never again. She’d leave it here, if she left here.
This is to protect you, she had told him as she stood in his path. What a joke. What right did she have? All she had done was cause him more trouble. If she hadn’t sought out the Imoogi’s help in the first place, she wouldn’t have been in this position. Did Rang resent her? Would he have rather died?
If none of that had happened, he would have tried to leave her at home for the final battle anyway, wouldn’t he? Was there any scenario where she could have been at his side, like Miss Ji Ah was right now with Lee Yeon?
Before her, the door opened slowly. She jumped up, ready to meet whoever, whatever was leaving.
Rang stood on the threshold, and her heart leapt but quickly constricted as she took in his expression. His sharp, guarded mask couldn’t hide the traces of tears on his face.
No one else came as the door closed behind him.
She instinctively went to him. “Is…” her words stalled, so she reached for his sleeve. He evaded her hand, and stepped around her without a word, or even a glance.
“Yes, the Imoogi is dead. You’re free to go.”
“But, what of Lee Yeon?”
He went down the stairs with a slight limp in his stride and said over his shoulder, “He’s gone too. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
“No,” she said, her voice catching. Tears started to slip down her cheeks. She hadn’t cried the whole time she had been waiting. “I wanted to protect you.”
“Well, you did an excellent job of it. Don’t follow me.”
“Wait!” She lurched forward towards him, barely noticing as she stumbled down the few steps. “You promised to kill me if anything happened to your brother.”
He paused. His posture was tall, proud, and yet defeated, hunched.
“It’s not worth my time.”
“But—” she choked back a sob. He had said he was here to protect her and Lee Yeon, so to kill her would leave him with nothing, right? Had he meant it, or was she really not worth his time, not even to carry out a threat? She looked up at the empty night sky, trying to stop her draining eyes and nose. “Where should I go then?”
“Shin Ju will take you back,” Rang said. “He’s a fool like that.”
She felt relief wash over her. He would, wouldn’t he? But the moment the emotion had settled over her she wanted to shake it off, scratch it off. Her body shouldn’t betray her like that. This wasn’t about her and Shin Ju. This was about Rang and the friendship…relationship she thought they had.
Rang still hadn’t turned towards her. He sounded so composed, and she was a mess. Look at me, she wanted to scream. Rang, she wanted to plead. How had she become more emotional than him? Hadn’t he been living with the feelings for longer? Do you eventually turn numb as you’ve lived for centuries?
All she could get out was, “Mister Lee Rang. Please.”
He turned towards her, and she knew what a pitiful sight she was. He quirked his lips, a thin imitation of a smile. She had seen him give it to many people in the past, never to her.
She sunk to her knees, hand stretched out towards him.
“Please. Don’t leave me,” she whispered. “Don’t abandon me like this.”
He shook his head, the smile gone, and turned away as he kept walking.
Pairing: SF9′s Youngbin x OC [Seul] || TBZ’s Sangyeon x OC [Yeon] Genre: slice of life, slight fluff, slight angst Word Count: 3,482 Summary: Seul and Yeon are both at work, but suddenly have to leave. Although Yeon returns to work and Seul doesn’t. KYB: errands/acting secretary || LSY: report
Warning: um... nothing i guess? lol
well, hello! it’s been a while. got in a mood to write a bit and to distract myself and came up with this. this again is originally another work i had, but re-did it for this. so i combined Seul and Yeon in this bit tying them in a little better compare to separate stories of theirs. other than that, not sure how this will go as i just found an old work and this came about. sorry that it’s not like a full story or anything, but i hope you enjoy it as much as i wrote for it. lol but yeah the title is bleh and i just need to title it with something and just came up with that. well, happy reading and kthxbai, Admin Lia~
Seul sat in-between Inseong and Dawon as the Marketing Department was having one of their quarterly meetings. This was the first meeting that Seul was present for since she started working for NEOZ Group a few months ago.
"Ms. Lee, you sit right here next to me." Youngbin stated as he motioned to the seat left of him for Seul to take.
"To better assist me."
Youngbin cast his personal assistant a friendly smile and Seul nodded with a small smile as she quickly stood while the two males sniggered knowingly at her. Seul slightly hushed them to stop it before making her way towards her boss and sat to his left while glaring at the two males who only cast her playful smiles. Seul cast Youkyung a smile who was sitting to the right of Youngbin, but the female only rolled her eyes before turning away from Seul. Seul brushed her off and got herself situated and glanced up to see that Dawon had purposely chosen to sit across from her with a playful expression.
"Why are you sitting right there?" Seul whispered as Dawon grinned before answering.
"So that I can watch you fall asleep like you've done back in school."
"That's messed up and I've never fallen asleep. I always doodled and pretended like I was paying attention. Thank you very much."
"Now that's messed up."
The duo's conversation was interrupted when Youngbin started the meeting.
"Good morning, everyone." Youngbin greeted the employees as he held a small remote control for the powerpoint presentation.
"For this meeting, we're going to discuss last quarter's activities, the activities for this quarter, and the social media and video advertisements for Mrs. Bages' product launch."
Within ten minutes of the meeting Seul already lost interest and began doodling on the agenda out of boredom to keep herself awake. Of course she listened in on what was being talked about, but for her she retained information better when taking partial notes. A moment later Seul's attention went to a small balled up piece of paper thrown by Dawon. She shot the male a blank look as Dawon signaled for her to open it. She did so and saw that Dawon had written 'you're gonna get caught' and in response she crumpled up the paper again with the male pouting.
Soon enough Seul was snapped back to reality five minutes later when she felt something hit her arm again. She looked towards Dawon who grinned at her while pointing at the papered star he had flicked at her to open it. Seul ignored him and pushed the paper back towards the male as to not wanting to deal with the whole note passing situation if they were caught. Dawon quietly rose from his swivel chair to retrieve the note and once he successfully got it back he had sat down only to crash to the floor with the chair rolling away once he tried to stand back up. All eyes were on Dawon as he silently laughed at his embarrassment and continued to just sit on his knees instead of back onto his chair.
"Is everything alright, Mr. Lee?" Youngbin asked while pausing in mid-speech.
"Ah, yes, I'm fine. Just wanted to test out the rolling chair." Dawon replied nonchalantly as he attempted to do just that.
"I thought you tested that out the first time we held a meeting." Youngbin said in amusement while Dawon coughed to hide his embarrassment again.
"Did I? I don't remember."
"I see. Well, let me finish this up and you can present your data analysis with Yoonho afterwards."
Youngbin continued on with his talk for another few minutes before handing it off to Yoonho and Dawon afterwards. Seul paid attention for a few seconds before realizing that she already knew what it was about as she had helped Dawon and Yoonho prepare this just a few days ago. Seul's attention went back to the paper before her as she continued to doodle various things. Unconsciously her right hand had slipped into her dress' pockets and was surprised when she pulled out a strawberry starburst. She had forgotten that her outfit actually had pockets for once. She happily unwrapped the sweet-tart treat and popped it into her mouth.
"What do you got there, Seul?"
"Nothing for you."
"That's not nice."
"Yeah, well, you should probaby shut up as we're in a meeting."
Seul wasn't aware that she was casually speaking with Youngbin as she was more focused on her candy.
"Really? Anwyays, are you going to share, Seul?"
The same male voice asked her and she automatically responded with something she would say to her sister upon hearing her name like always still not aware of the sitaution.
"Not with you."
Before realizing that it wasn't Yeon, but her boss that had asked that question. She hastily looked over at Youngbin with a sheepish look.
"Ah, sorry about that, Mr. Kim. I didn't mean to be so frank with you. My apologies. Um, but here you go, sir."
Seul whispered in embarrassment as she slid a lemon starburst towards the male while thinking why he had called her so casually within the work setting and of their different ranks. Youngbin chuckled softly as he took the item hiding the fact that he enjoyed the reaction he got out of his personal assistant.
"It's okay, Ms. Lee."
Seul just nodded although she just realized that he had addressed her properly this time. She didn't have much time to think about it until she noticed a small piece of crumpled paper coming into her view. Seul raised a brow wondering who it could be until she noticed that Inseong was looking at her expectantly. She realized it was him as he shot her a knowing look. Seul rolled her eyes, but actually went to read it since Inseong wasn't anything like Dawon. That was until she read the content and knew that he was just like him as Inseong had written if she liked their boss or not. Seul shook her head as a response, but Inseong didn't believe her. She didn't care if he did or not.
Once the meeting was over, Seul returned to her desk tired and hungry as she felt drained for some odd reason. It wasn't even lunch time yet. She tiredly placed her head on top of the files of her desk while her desk phone machine was flashing red indicating she already had a voicemail to respond back to. Seul sighed as she closed her eyes to recuperate before going back into work mode. It didn't last long as her short break was disrupted when she heard a file or two slapped against her desk. Seul lifted her head to come face to face with a gleeful looking Dawon. She did not like the look on his face.
"Yes, Dawon?"
"So, you and the b-"
Seul interrupted him.
"There's nothing going on between us."
"Oh, c'mon, don't lie."
"I'm not. Seriously. There's nothing going on between us."
Dawon was gonna tease Seul some more, but she glared at him.
"Don't you have some other work to finish?"
"Well, yes, I do."
"Then why are you standing there?"
"To bother you like always."
"Gosh you're so annoying."
"I know, but anyways, you an-"
Seul shot him a dark look.
"You should probably shut up."
"And if I don't?"
Dawon grinned at her mischievously.
"hen I'ma beat you up."
Dawon backed off from the subject.
"Okay, whoa, whoa. Calm down. Usually that's Yeon's line, but alright."
Seul rolled her eyes.
"Because you talk too much and like bothering people for the fun of it."
"You right."
He chuckled.
"Anyways," Dawon changed the subject, "I need to discuss with you about what cake to get Hwiyoung for his birthday coming up soon."
"Why do you need to discuss that with me?"
"I wanna get everyone's opinions and help on it."
"You don't need my help. You can do that by yourself."
"I could, but I remember that you used to bake, right?"
"Not really."
"But don't you make cookies for Jangmi?"
The phone on Seul's desk rang and she ignored Dawon to answer the call.
"Hello, this is Seul Lee of the Marketing Department of NEOZ Group."
Seul reached for a pen and paper as she took down the caller's message and Dawon reluctantly returned to his desk. For a good hour and a half Seul had been constantly talking on the phone with clients about business ordeals that she hadn't realized her own phone going off as it was muted, but set to vibrate mode. Seul also hadn't paid attention to the beeps that sounded when she was speaking with the clients indicating that another caller was trying to reach her. So when she heard her name called by her sister while in mid-talk with another client she was confused.
"Yeon?"
"Yo, we gotta go." Yeon told her as she came up to her desk almost out of breath.
The others in the office watched the interaction between the sisters.
"What do you mean we gotta go?"
"It's Mom."
Seul made an annoyed face.
"So? What about her?"
Yeon's face turned serious. This caught Seul's attention.
"Yeon. What about Mom?"
Yeon stayed silent, but Seul noticed how her sister's eyes glistened over and face read with worry.
"Hello, Mr. Kwon. I'm sorry, but I'll have to call you back another time. Something urgent has come up. Goodbye."
She hung up with a current client before gathering her things.
"Seul, is everything okay?" Dawon suddenly asked upon seeing Seul packing her things in a hurry.
"Sorry, Dawon. I gotta go."
The pair anxiously waited in the waiting room of the hospital along with their mother's boyfriend, Yongin, and their father, Kisuk, and his girlfriend, Sanghee. Yongin has been waiting for more than two hours while the sisters have been there for less than an hour, and  Kisuk and Sanghee just arrived several minutes ago. Yeon only informed Seul that their mom had fainted as Yeon was the only one that had picked up Yongin's phone call and he only informed her of that small information. Other than that the sisters didn't know anything else as they awaited news.
"Hello, good evening. I'm Doctor Oh." The doctor greeted the quintet as their attention turned to him ten minutes later.
"How is she? Is she doing well? Nothing's wrong with Narae, right? Oh please tell me that she's alright and that's nothing wrong with her." Yongin fired questions at the doctor before Doctor Oh shot him a reassuring smile to calm the male.
"Ms. Jung is fine. Are you the husband?"
"Ah, no. I'm Narae's boyfriend. Um," Yongin motioned towards Kisuk, "He's her ex-husband."
The doctor shifted his eyes towards Kisuk as everyone felt awkward at their current situation.
"What's wrong with our mom?" Seul asked, breaking the awkwardness and just wanting to get this done and over with.
"Nothing serious, but your mother is eighteen weeks pregnant." Doctor Oh informed them of the news.
The quintet went silent once more. They weren't sure what to feel, but it was Yeon that broke the silence.
"Are you saying that our mom is having a baby? At her age?"
"Yes, that is correct."
The sisters breathed a sigh of relief and the worries that Seul had disappeared although she was now slightly annoyed.
"I can't believe she got herself knocked up."
"You're telling me." Yeon agreed with a shake of her head before looking over at Yongin.
"Well, congratulations, you're going to be a father."
"Yeah, Yongin, congratulations. You're gonna be a father of a tiny human." Seul mused as Yeon nudged her playfully.
"Uh, thank you." Yongin responded while still trying to process the information.
"Yes, congratulations, Yongin." Sanghee congratulated Yongin with a happy expression while looking over at Kisuk fondly. "Hearing those words are such wonderful news, isn't it, dear?"
"Uh, yeah. Yeah, it is." Kisuk responded a bit distracted although he looked over at his two daughters.
Yeon and Seul avoided eye contact with him and just looked at the doctor.
"Is that why she fainted, Doctor Oh?" Seul asked a moment later.
The doctor nodded.
"Yes, although it was mainly due to fatigue and malnourishment. I also believe there was some added stress over the past month that had eventually overwhelmed your mother causing her to lose consciousness."
Doctor Oh handed the sisters a piece of paper which Yeon took.
"I recommend for her to rest plenty, take vitamins and supplements, eat properly, watch her stress and activity levels, exercise accordingly, and to schedule monthly or even bi-weekly check-ups with her obstetrician or her main doctor that she's currently seeing."
The sisters nodded as Doctor Oh looked to the time on the wall before returning her gaze onto the quintet.
"If you would like you're all more than welcome to visit Ms. Jung for the time being, but only one of you can stay the night."
Before Yongin could suggest for one of the sisters to do it, the pair gave it up to him.
"You should stay, Yongin. We're fine."
"Ah, yes. I think that's a good choice." Kisuk agreed with his daughters.
"Good. Ms. Jung's should be fine with visitors in a few minutes." Doctor Oh informed them with a polite smile before walking away.
"Yongin, I believe you should go in first to see Narae." Sanghee suggested as Yongin nodded absent-mindedly before doing just that.
"So," Kisuk began, but Seul cut him off.
"You and Sanghee can visit Mom. Yeon and I have other things to take care of."
"I see." Their father responded a bit dejectedly. "Well, take care."
"Thanks. You, too." Seul curtly responded before she and Yeon bid them goodbye.
Yeon was the only one to return to work as Seul had to meet up with a lawyer that finally got back to her and could only meet today and soon to go about legal procedures concerning Seokwon. At the same time something had come up for Yuna and she was unable to care for Jangmi for the rest of the day. So that left Yeon to babysit her niece at her job even though she could've just not gone back, but she remembered that she had to finish a few reports that were already due by the end of the week and didn't need more piling up.
So when Yeon appeared with her niece at the lobby Chahee beamed at the child and told Yeon that her daughter was adorable and looked just like her. Yeon had to immediately correct Chahee who quickly apologized for the assumption. After clearing up that situation Chahee had issued a special visitor pass for the child with an image of some cartoon character featured on the pass. Soon afterwards they rode the elevator which Yeon forgot that her niece found very amusing and almost continued the mini ride for Jangmi until remembering she couldn't play. Walking hand-in-hand with Jangmi who seemed to look around the office in awe, Yeon's path was stopped by two of her colleagues, Kevin and Jacob.
"So, Yeon, who is this?" Kevin asked in almost a sing-song like tone while he and Jacob crouched down to Jangmi's level.
"Hi." Jacob greeted the toddler in a soft tone. "I'm Jacob."
"And I'm Kevin. Hi." Kevin followed after.
Yeon didn't bother answering as she just let her niece greet the two males.
"Hi." Jangmi greeted with a toothy grin. "I'm MiMi."
"How old are you, MiMi?" The duo asked.
Jangmi held up three fingers as the males were impressed.
"Wow."
Jangmi giggled at their reactions. The pair continued to gush at the toddler and Yeon had to finally drag her niece away from the two males who still wanted to interact with Jangmi. Yeon finally made it to her desk as she got Jangmi situated before she herself could get herself all settled in when she heard her boss' office door opened a few seconds later. Sangyeon hadn't noticed the child while speaking to his secretary in a firm tone.
"Welcome back to work, Ms. Lee. I see that you've returned two hours and fifty-seven minutes later when I wasn't aware that you had left in the first place. Could you tell me why that is please?"
Just as Yeon was going to apologize for her abrupt departure, but she momentarily paused curiously at how detailed the time was that her boss had stated. She shook the thought away and had barely opened her mouth until hers and Sangyeon's focus turned onto the toddler when Jangmi greeted the male.
"Hi."
Sangyeon's demeanor changed as he cast the child a warm smile and greeted the young child.
"Well, hello to you."
Yeon was weirded out by her boss' sudden behavior, but didn't comment on it as to not return the attention back to her. Instead she amusingly watched the two interact with one another thinking that she was off the hook. That was until Sangyeon remembered that he was at work and reminded himself of that before he righted himself.
"Um, why is this child here, Ms. Lee?" He asked, facing Yeon again. "Is she your daughter?"
"She's in my care for the time being." She answered him. "And no, she's not. She's my niece."
"Oh. Okay, but you do know that it's not a place for a child to be. Correst?"
"I'm well aware of that, but some things came up and I'm the only one that can look after her."
"I see. Is that why you left all of a sudden?"
"No. It was something else."
"Then why didn't you pick up my calls?"
Sangyeon changed the subject in a nonchalant manner, but Yeon quirk a brow in confusion.
"When?"
"I've been calling you since I found out you left wondering why you suddenly left without my knowledge or informing me."
"Oh? twelve times?"
"I say it was less than that." Sangyeon commented casually, but he knew it was more than that if you looked through the call history.
Yeon didn't really care as she continued to speak in a nonchalant manner.
"Ah, so that was your number. Yeah, I don't pick up random numbers I don't know even if they call me many times."
Sangyeon scoffed at his secretary's answer.
"Well, now you do and you should save it just in case something like this happens again, Ms. Lee, especially as my secretary."
"Will do, Mr. Lee."
"I believe that you should do it right now."
"Do what?"
"Save my number."
"Oh. Um, sure. Just give me a moment."
Before Sangyeon could actually get his secretary to urgently do that, Yein from Sales arrived to deliver some documents to Sangyeon, but was without a doubt distracted by Jangmi.
"Aww, hi." Yein greeted the child while becoming eye level with her. "What's your name?"
"MiMi." Jangmi answered with a giggle. "Hi."
"Aww, you're so adorable." Yein continued to gush over the child. "Did you come with mommy to work?"
Yeon didn't bother to correct her colleague.
"Auntie isn't my mommy." Jangmi corrected the female instead.
Yeon slightly chuckled at her niece's words as Yein felt a bit sheepish.
"Oh, sorry."
Sangyeon coughed to get Yein's attention.
"Ahem, Ms. Ahn."
Yein didn't hear him as she was too busy communicating with the toddler. Sangyeon coughed louder and said her name louder than last time.
"Ahem, Ms. Ahn."
Yein heard him this time around.
"Oh, right. Sorry, Mr. Lee."
Yein straighten up as she handed the files over to Sangyeon.
"These are for you from Ms. Jung. She wanted to make sure they got to you before lunch time."
She bowed before hurrying away and waving goodbye to Jangmi. Sangyeon scanned the files before casting his eyes onto where Yeon should've been standing, but no longer was. His eyes wandered to find her and spotted her holding the child while making her way somewhere.
"Ms. Lee." He called out to her.
"Ah, yes?" Yeon answered while momentarily stopping to look over at her boss.
"Where are you going?"
"To the toilet. Jangmi needs to go."
"Goooo." Jangmi stressed as Yeon reassured her niece.
"Yes, MiMi, we're going, we're going."
"But I need you to in-"
Sangyeon didn't finish his sentence as Yeon paid him no mind and basically rushed off to get the child to relieve herself without causing some type of accident if she didn't get her niece to the restroom. Sangyeon tsked in annoyance before letting out a controlled breath.
"Deep breath, Sangyeon. Life happens. Just make sure she gets to these by the end of the week and everything's all good."
He let out another calm breath before placing the documents that Yein had handed to him earlier onto Yeon's desk before making his way to his own office.
Produce X 101 Position Evaluation Thoughts (Post ep 6/7) VOCAL/RAP POSITION
I just had a lot of thoughts after watching episodes 6 and 7 so just gonna rant here.
Firstly i just want to put it out there this the first time i followed a produce x 101 series for so long mainly because my main picks since the start are still there! (I’m looking at park sun ho and nam do hyun)
PLEASE DON’T GET ANGRY BECAUSE THESE ARE PURELY MY OWN OPINIONS WARNING LONG LONG POST AHEAD
So im just gonna go thru each performance and share my thoughts on each trainee of course im naturally going to be sort of biased so ill just follow my feelings.
VOCAL POSITION
youtube
4th. TO MY YOUTH stage,
I would say this was my least anticipated stage and i feel this is generally not a stage I would rewatch very often in the future. I’m not saying its bad in fact I love how emotional they are since I know very well how hard these lyrics hit myself being a avid bol4 fan. I just didn’t really like the arrangement of the song, its inevitable but comparing it to the original this arrangement seemed to dull out their voices abit as in it felt too loud. I think it was the adlibs that really sounded too loud when i was listening, it was emotional yes, but did it highlight their emotion as well as it could? I don’t think so. But other than that i do think this was a well done stage and finally i can start to see why everyone loves kim min kyu.
JIN WOO - I love that he chose this song because this song IS for all the teens out there trying to find their way in life and the lyrics just match him so well too and yeah it was just a good song choice i think.
SE JIN - i just like the tone of his voice its really soft and fluffy and it worked to his advantage in this song
WOO SEOK - He’s up in the ranks for a reason and he maintains that through this performance
BYUNG CHAN - I felt like he got outshined by woo seok, maybe a poor song choice on his part, felt like his voice would suit day by day more but it is what it is and i think he did well just out shined
MIN KYU - I see improvement from my previous impressions of him and i can see him trying to sing louder as what the vocal trainers told him, only time will tell if he improves more.
youtube
3RD DAY BY DAY STAGE
This stage was nice. It was good. But it just did not really pop or leave a super lasting impression. I liked the arrangement into a rainy day style song. I liked the concept that they had. I liked their powerful vocals and harmonies. But it just didn’t stand out for some reason like I really can’t explain it. Its like the I am stage in produce 48 it was good but it just didnt pop.
CHOI SU HWAN - I’ll first declare i am biased towards him so don’t take me seriously but like i found it quite unbelievable that he got 5th place in the live voting because he was hitting those notes darn powerfully and his harmonising with yu bin was really nice and good so yes i like him and i hope he makes it through
SONG YU BIN - Same as woo seok he continues to show why he’s in the top ranks and that there’s a reason why he already debuted really nothing suprising
NAM DONG HYUN - I like his work ethic, he accepts criticism and works hard to get what he wants the arrangement that he did was pretty and his voice matched well with the song but didn’t really have much highlights during the performance apart from the high note with yubin
MOON JUN HO - I have no idea he existed until now but i loved his facial expressions and his voice aint bad but because of the lack of screentime he gets I really can’t talk much about him (im sorry)
KWON TAE EUN - Same as jun ho definitely does not get enough screen time considering the effort they probably poured into the stage
youtube
2ND TWIT STAGE
These 5 guys killed it, be it from the arrangement to their voices to their stage presence and performance everything conveyed their teamwork. Also i loved the outfits and the mic stands yes.
YOON JUNG HWAN - This guy’s stage presence is no joke where has he been all along? He knows what he’s doing that’s for sure and he is such a good pick as the center for this song, just watch the performance the way he moves its killer.
LEE HYEOB - WHERE HAS THIS GUY BEEN ALL THIS TIME TOO? When Bae Yoon Jung went “who is he?” i was like exactly I know right? This was a good song choice on his part and now i want him to go through as well maybe i just have a soft spot for independent trainees.
LEE EUN SANG - Clearly he ranked first based on popularity for this live stage but its not to say that he didn’t serve those killer looks, I could see him being a pretty good vocal but for this stage he stood out with the looks
KANG SEOK HWA - Another independent trainee that i have a soft spot for too, didn’t have many lines but was stable and did his job and also meshed well with the rest
LEE MI DAM - Damn if it weren’t for the comments I wouldn’t even be sure/ remember who arranged the song Mnet certainly could have given him some spotlight because i absolutely loved this arrangement into this sort of rock pop song
youtube
1ST ME AFTER YOU STAGE
Now this is a stage i’ve been replaying since it aired. This is up there in all the produce performances i’ve watched. These guys are made for ballads with their voices. Also i just love me a ballad and i do feel like this is the avengers team for the vocal position.
KIM YO HAN - He knows how to sing with emotion and when he does it feels like his heart is out on his sleeve, he may not have the biggest range (vocal wise) but he sure can deliver the feels
CHA JUN HO - I love the friendship between him and yo han but he definitely has to thank yo han for helping him but once that shell broke his vocals definitely shine through
KIM HYUN BIN - After the amazing performance with No More Dream i thought he was going to choose a rap position but no he chose a vocal position and he stuns. Similar to yo han he doesn’t exactly have the largest range but he does know how to sing.
HAN SEUNG WOO - He is good. He deserved the first and the center position, i feel like i’ve been saying this alot but he picked the right song he knows how his voice works and i respect him for that. But i wish someone would change his hairstyle.
WEI ZI YUE - He is trying, I can really tell he’s trying his voice is very unique and I’m not quite sure if he knows how to use it yet because the first time I watched the performance it felt a bit jarring because the rest of his team mates have those sort of clear voices but i could see he was trying to enunciate properly so thumbs up for trying.
RAP POSITION
youtube
2ND BARCODE STAGE
Before i watched the episode, I had hopes for a good stage because i love this song but after watching it i just wanted them not to cry. I think it was more upsetting because they made mistakes one by one and you could see them visibly getting less and less confident even though they were doing well. I feel sad because I could see the stage that this could have been with their different rap tones blending together and a very emotional lyrics.
WON HYUK - He was sort of evil edited but like he made up for it in his stage, he kept his calm and he kept his composure and i felt like because of that the team managed to finish the song. He was the only one that didn’t make a mistake and in fact i felt like he rapped harder because he wanted to make up for his team mates mistakes and he was good as a rapper which is surprising after his energetic performance.
BAEK JIN - He was really good and stable at the start which is why it was worse to see him fall, i think his nerves and his team’s mistakes really got to him and it broke him. His facial expressions were really good too.
YURI - His rap voice is so low and so different from his team mates that it made him stood out but imo i think from the start he already didn’t feel particularly confident, and it showed on his face and ultimately caused him to get flustered and make mistakes as well
LEE WOO JIN - I’m not sure about this but it felt like he was a vocalist? As in he felt new to rapping and the whole team vibe certainly didn’t help the situation if that was so. Tbh i think he needs more practice but he was really the most nervous even from the start but i wish him all the best
1ST SAY IT YES OR NO STAGE
https://youtu.be/uM07p0-GA-M
MY FAVORITE STAGE OUT OF ALL THE STAGES!! This was just so fun. They were literally having fun on the stage and this was a stage where I absoulutely loved the killing parts and everyone had one! also all their lyrics are both fun, sad and powerful at the same time, i just love this team and want all of them to go through!
NAM DO HYUN - My pick since the start and I continue to love what he brings to the table, he actually took Cheetah’s advice seriously and he killed the stage especially the part where he says I’ll be your Oppa ji I was like wow that was good and on beat and on point
JO SEUNG YEON - He trained Jaehun and Seong yeon pretty darn well and he took care of his own part too and even though his own part was short it was IMPACTFUL like that line “naega” is too damn good, he’s both main vocal and main rapper and not a joke
JUNG JAE HUN - He’s trying hard too, I can see it but i loved how he just basically acted out his part about being nervous and the lyrics in his part are so honest that they’re kind of sad especially the part where he says “the only thing i’ve shown is my temple heart”
KIM SEONG YEON - Not sure if he wrote his rap or Seung Yeon did but it was nice and simple and effective and he had his own killing part at the “ pick pick pick” line. Kinda loved him as a rapper wanna see more of him as both vocalist and rapper.
Yours, Truly.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
“Well, that’s that I guess.” I watched the men from the creditor’s office load the last of the crate into the huge moving van, while the man himself gave me a sympathetic smile, signing off on the cheque.
“We tried to make this as easy for you as possible, Miss. Yoongi ssi told us about your situation and while there’s nothing we can do about it, in terms of the apartment, we do intend to reimburse you the difference from the valuable items you just sold off, once the debt is paid.”
I waved him off.
“you can put it in my bank account, though we both know it’s not going to be much.”
My phone rang again and I frowned at the name on the contact list. Lee Shin.
Shin was Wonho’s immediate boss, and a sleaze by every standard. I hadn’t enjoyed any of our previous interactions, partly because he made it abundantly clear that he was interested , and partly because he was just extra touchy in general. Wonho had never taken my complaints seriously, asking me to take it as a compliment instead of raising flags over it, always claiming that he couldn’t risk his position in the company.
which was ridiculous when i thought about what he’d gone ahead and done. I pushed the thought behind. The past week had been a very torturous kind of hell. I hadn’t been able to get in touch with Wonho or his lawyer and a part of me just wanted to storm in and shake some sense into him. But a part of me had always known that this would happen, or so it felt.
Wonho had always been easily influenced. Even during our marriage he seldom argued with me, always going along with whatever i suggested. At the time , I had chalked it up to him being crazy in love with me. Apparently , it was nothing more than a lack of backbone.
 Wonho was a coward and he had ruined my life.
The phone kept ringing, drawing me back to the present.
Groaning a little, I picked up the phone.
“Y/N? Is that you?”
“Yes, Mr. Lee.” I said, keeping my voice even. Somewhere behind me , i could hear Yoongi rattling around in the back of his car, which now had three suitcases worth of my clothes and a small box of stuff from my childhood. I’d tossed the rest of my stuff away, not in any urgency to remember all the ways I’d failed at my marriage. Seven years down the drain.
The more i thought about it, the more I wanted to claw my ex-husband’s face off.
“..... So , what I was saying is that , you’re welcome to move in with my wife and I, until you get back on your feet. What do you say to that, love?”
I grimaced , Yoongi catching the tail end of my expression and raising an eyebrow at me. i waved off his concern and turned around to refuse when a sleek white Porsche rolled over to the parking space of my apartment building, A familiar company Logo etched on the hood. i stared in surprise as the driver skillfully parked the car before sliding out from behind the wheel.
I blinked in disbelief as Kim Taehyung straightened, slipping his sunglasses off his face and tucking them in his pocket before looking around. He smiled wide when his eyes met mine, waving cheerfully as he locked his car and began making his way over to me.
“...... Love? You there?” The man’s voice in my ear shook me out of my shock and I hummed in confusion before shaking my head.
“Uh.. No sir. That wouldn’t be necessary at all... I do have a place to stay , but thank you for offering.” I said , just as Taehyung stepped up to me, his beautifully crafted brows rising to his hairline as he tilted his head curiously at my words.
I smiled helplessly.
“No, no. i absolutely refuse to take no for an answer, my love. i know Wonho did you dirty but you should know, not all men are like that and I , for one, think that a girl like you.....”
“who’s the guy?” Taehyung said loudly, startling me as he leaned in , pretending to listen in and i drew back.
“It’s nothing... I... Mr. Lee. Like I said, i don’t need a place to stay for the night....and...”
“Wait, Lee Shin? Wonho’s boss?” Taehyung’s jaw hardened.
i nodded and the next second, the phone got snatched out of my ears, Tae pressing the speaker button as he frowned.
“Come on, sweetheart. That bastard didn’t know how to appreciate a good thing when he had it. I’m not like that. i could take real good care of you, you know... In return for a little bit of your company. If you’re good to me, i could be persuaded to be very generous.....” The man’s voice filled the air and i felt my entire body flush in disbelief and offence.
“What the fuck did you just say, you nasty son of a bitch?!!” Yoongi’s voice came loud and angry next to me and I flinched when my best friend reached for the phone but Taehyung shook his head.
“Mr. Lee. This is kim Taehyung, your CEO. I’ve recorded your phonecall to Y/N and trust me, this is going to play key evidence in the hearing you have scheduled tomorrow for harassing your secretary. I don’t like predicting outcomes , not without all the facts but something tells me that you’re going to lose your job and/or go to prison . So maybe you could tell Wonho about your opinions , in person?”
I heard Mr. Lee splutter over the line before Taehyung hung up, swiftly blocking the man’s number too , before smiling and handing over the phone.
“You’re like a loser magnet, aren’t you?” He said brightly and I grimaced.
“Is that why you’re here?” i shot back and he chuckled deeply, his voice low and warm. Taehyung’s voice was one of the best things about him. It reminded me of hunting cabins, tucked into the woods, with a warm blazing fireplace and soft rugs under my bare foot.
“Fair enough. I just wanted to check in on you. It’s been a week since we talked and i thought you may have changed your mind.” He said softly.
I shook my head swiftly.
“i really don’t think ... i don’t need .....Well, I’m fine. For now.” I waved my hands a little wildly and he hummed.
“Are you sure i couldn’t convince you? i’m kind of in a real fix right now. “ He sighed deeply. “ I really need someone to help me out. My sister is going in for surgery on Thursday and i’ll be having both the twins and the new baby with me for the next three weeks. Yeon Hee is ...well she’s not really a kid-friendly person and i have a bunch of meetings too. I have no experience with babysitters and i was really hoping that you could stay over at my place. it would be a huge help.”
He turned huge brown eyes at me, limpid and soft .
I groaned.
“This is unfair., You’re taking advantage of the fact that I love your sister and i love babies. You’re playing dirty! ” I protested and he grinned wider, boxy smile setting my heart on fire as he waggled his brows.
“Shamelessly.” He agreed.
Yoongi finished locking up the bootspace of his car and slowly sauntered over.
“As long as you pay her , she’s available.” He said teasingly and I shoved him a little.
Taehyung chuckled but his eyes were still vaguely desperate.
“Please, angel. I know you aren’t comfortable with it but i really wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t desperate. Jooheon is too young to be with some un-vetted sitter and there is no one in the world i trust more than you.”
I stared at him for a second, shaking my head gently.
“You always know the right things to say, don’t you?” I sighed. “ Fine, but how long are we talking about? I can’t agree to something indefinite...” I said firmly.
“Why don’t we talk about it over coffee?” Taehyung prompted.
Before i could respond, Yoongi snorted.
“And, that’s my cue to leave. Sweetheart, you’ll be coming over right? I’ll get the guest bedroom set up okay?” He kissed me lightly on the cheek and i nodded.
Taehyung gave him a half hug and we both watched as he pulled away from the curb and drove off.
“So.... coffee shop in the corner or Starbucks? “ I said softly and he hesitated.
“I have an espresso machine in my condo.” He said softly and I hesitated.
“Tae...”
“It’s all good, angel. No funny business , i promise. It’s just ...the paparazzi’s been after me ever since I revealed my relationship and I’d rather not have you bear the brunt of it.... you know...if we get spotted together....” he shrugged his shoulders lightly, the movement causing his shirt to stretch out across his broad frame .
I couldn’t think of anything to say to that and i nodded absently.
“Excellent... Come on... Let’s go...” He stepped down the few stairs jumping over a small puddle of water at the base of the stair , on the pavement. But,  before I could follow, he turned around, grabbing my waist with both hands and lifting me off the stair. I fell forward into  him, his chest pressed right up against mine , impossibly warm and hard underneath me. I gasped in surprise, gripping his shoulders in shock .
His eyes were as wide as mine, as if he had just realized what he’d done.
“Taehyung, what on earth-?” I said sharply and he recoiled like he’d been burned, his long fingers leaving my body quickly.
“shit,.. i’m sorry.. it’s just...there was water and i didn’t want your shoes to get wet..... I’m sorry, angel that was out of line . I apologize.” He held both his hands up and i couldn’t breathe , let alone respond. I managed a weak nod and stuttered, “ It’s alright...” before wrapping both arms around myself almost protectively. I suddenly felt vulnerable and exposed, raw and gullible.
I couldn’t even meet his eyes because my heart was pounding so hard inside my chest. i kept a decent distance between us as he walked to his car but I couldn’t stop the way my  insides twisted with sudden , hot and intense attraction. After all these years, i still wanted Taehyung with an ache that was fierce and impossible to ignore.
He came here to find a babysitter , not a girlfriend . He already has one of those. A 5′10 supermodel who happens to have the face of a literal goddess........You’re so out of his league here , it’s not even funny, Y/N.
I let him open the door for me, slipping into the heated leather seats. I froze up again for a second, when he put my seat belt on for me.
“Hey...uh... You okay?” He said softly. I managed a weak smile.
“I’m fine, Tae. It’s fine. Really craving that coffee now.” i laughed nervously watching him come around and climb into the seat net to me. He started the car quickly and flashed me another smile.
“You’ll love my sister’s kids. They’re dying to have a cool aunt.” He winked. Something curled inside me.
“Well, they have a supermodel for an aunt. Can’t get cooler than that....” I said shrilly. His smile faltered for a second but he schooled his features quickly.
“I’ve told them all about how you used to sculpt... They love art.”
“I’ll be glad to paint with them.” I said honestly, giving him a little smile and his eyes were so full of warmth , I had to look away. i also realized, what I’d just said.
Taehyung picked up on it quickly.
“So this means you’re going to do it then? Move in with me ?”
He grinned before reaching out and throwing an arm on the back of my seat, before turning around to look as he backed out of the spot. i tried not to stare at the way his large hands looked gripping the steering wheel. Tried not to think about how they’d felt gripping my waist.
“Well, uh... i’m not sure that’s how you should be phrasing that to your girlfriend.” I said weakly and he frowned.
“You’re more worried about her than you should be. Me and Yeon hee...we’re.... it’s nothing serious. We’re friends more than lovers and its a really casual thing.”
I tried not to fidget.
“I’m sure that has nothing to do with me.” i said quickly.
“Y/N...”
“Tae, I’m serious. I just... I just divorced my husband of seven years. I’m not up for these games....”
“These aren’t games, angel...”
“You know what i mean, Tae. I’m still emotionally in a lot of pain...and I know you always hated Wonho ....”
“Damn right I hated him, he took the one thing i wanted in the whole damn world.” Taehyung snapped.
I shut my eyes.
“Taehyung...”
He groaned .
“I’m sorry. You’re right.. it’s just... it’s hard for me to see you ... being upset because of that bastard after everything he did....” He said softly. “He shouldn’t have ever come near you if he wasn’t going to love you right....”
I stared at him. It had been over a decade but he still reminded me of the boy I’d left behind. I could read Taehyung like a book.....
And i thought about Wonho , about how different he had turned out to be, about how easily i’d been fooled. I’d thought I’d known him well, too and look how that turned out....
I didn’t know Taehyung, no matter how achingly familiar he felt.
“ Can we not talk about this...?” I said softly.
He hesitated before nodding.
I sighed and sank back into the seats. It was going to be a long night.
Even though Ma Sung and Gi Bbeum have found each other again, things are not as easy the second time around.  Will their fated connection be enough to draw them back together?  Devilish Joy Episode 2 gives us more questions than it answers.  (We are doing this people!  We are going to recap all of Devilish Joy.)
Recap Devilish Joy Episode 2
We open where we left off in the last episode.  Gong Ma Sung(Choi Jin Hyuk) stands over Joo Gi Bbeum(Song Ha Yoon) and demands what she is doing with her camera.  Gruffly, he orders her to hand him the camera and reaches out his hand.  As he does, his sleeve pulls up and Gi Bbeum sees for the first time the tattoo of the memory flower on his hand.
Memories swarm back to Gi Bbeum of their day together and seeing the memory flower.  Unaware Ma Sung doesn’t remember her, she hides her face.  But Ma Sung is still fixated on the camera.  When she doesn’t give it to him, he pulls it from her hands and sends it flying to the floor.  In the same instance, the camera breaks and Gi Bbeum’s bag of stinky fish splatter at their feet.
Ma Sung scolds her and turns to leave.  But, seeing the expensive camera broken, Gi Bbeum leaps to her feet and yells at him, “Hold up, Mr. Gong Ma Sung!”
Ma Sung’s countenance shifts in surprise.  “Did you call my name?”
“Yes! Don’t you remember me?” Gi Bbeum barks.
“Are you so important to be worth remembering?”  Ma Sung asks her and turning to go steps on one of her many spilt fish.  Angrily he tells her to clean them up.
In that moment, jerk cameraman arrives to see his camera in shatters on the floor.  He yells at Gi Bbeum while she stands numbly apologizing.
Back in his office, Ma Sung trashes his soiled shoes.
Later that day, Gi Bbeum sits across from her friend Ko Nan Joo(Lee Soo Ji) (Aw, it’s the pig-tailed assistant.  Note: we will be calling her Nan Joo from now on.) and sorts her fish.  She tells Nan Joo about meeting Ma Sung.  Nan Joo doesn’t seem at all surprised that Ma Sung didn’t recognize Gi Bbeum.  She is convinced he did remember her, but didn’t want to admit it considering how differently Gi Bbeum is from back then.  Gi Bbeum decides her friend is right.  “Whatever!” she tells her.
Gi Bbeum tries to give her friend some of her fish as a “thank you” for helping her set up her clothing store when she didn’t even have money for rent, but Nan Joo is less than thrilled to accept the smelly red gurnards.  She carries the bag of fish at arm’s length into the other room.
Walking home, Gi Bbeum discovers tabloids pasted on the side of a building advertising “Joo Gi Bbeum’s Closet: Amazing Sales.”  embarrassed for people to see how fall she has fallen, she begins to tear the sheets from the wall and window.
That night, Ma Sung is dropped off at home by his secretary chauffeur.  But before he goes in, his driver asks why Ma Sung is not wearing his shoes.  “I threw them out,” he grumpily tells the man and asks for him to buy the exact same shoes for tomorrow so he isn’t confused.
At her home, Gi Bbeum’s younger brother, Joo Ja Rang(Kang Yoon Je,) cooks red gurnards for dinner while Gi Bbeum watches.  Gi Bbeum asks what happened to the gas to their stove, and he tells her it was turned off by the company.  Gi Bbeum doesn’t seems totally surprised.  Continuing to cook, Ja Rang asks if she is not scared of the sea now, seeing as she went out on a boat today.  “I’m more scared of not catching fish.”  She tells him honestly.
Their conversation is interrupted by the sound of Gi Bbeum’s younger sister, Joo Sa Rang(Kim Ji Young) pushing their very drunk father in a shopping cart.
The siblings sit down to eat their fish dinner while their father(Oh Gwang Rok) lies on the floor beside the table.  Randomly, he pops up to quote pieces of poetry at them.  As their dad falls back asleep on the floor, Gi Bbeum notices the rude words on her younger sister’s shirt: “What are you looking at!?!”  Motherly, she tells her to not wear the rude shirt and instead to wear something from Gi Bbeum’s store.  As she pulls clothes from her backpack, Ja Rang notices the crumpled tabloids at the bottom of the pack.  He is annoyed, but Gi Bbeum makes light of them, telling him she is saving the paper for recycling.
At his own home, Ma Sung is also eating dinner.  Ironically, the menu for tonight is red gurnard, which (hilariously) annoys him.
Before bed, Ma Sung goes to his room of notes to write down his memories for tomorrow.  He is careful to detail each part of the day, but when he gets to his meeting with Gi Bbeum, he tells himself.  “It is a blessing to forget about such incidents,” and leaves her out.
Back at Gi Bbeum’s house, she heads to bed in the room she shares with her younger sister.  Laying down on the bottom bunk, she wistfully stares at the headshots of her former self tucked in the bars above her head.
At precisely 10pm, Ma Sung lays down to sleep.
We watch as the light around him darkens and then reemerges with the dawn.  As is his custom, Ma Sung awakes and goes to take a shower.  But as he stands under the water a memory of Gi Bbeum from yesterday flashes through his mind.  Startled, Ma Sung stands dripping and wonders who the woman is in his mind.
Now on a mission, Ma Sung rushes to his Memory Room to read over his notes from yesterday.  But, of course, there is nothing to be found about the mystery woman.  Still more baffled, Ma Sung calls his secretary to come quickly.
The secretary arrives carrying Ma Sung’s replacement shoes.  Ma Sung hands the man a sketch he has drawn of Gi Bbeum with her mound of fish and camera parts.  The driver wonders if maybe the woman was just a nightmare of Ma Sung’s.  But Ma Sung reminds him that he hasn’t had a dream in three years. After determining it wasn’t a dream, he realizes excitedly that Ma Sung remembered something for the first time.  (I’d disliked this guy before, but his reaction is so genuinely happy for Ma Sung I might have to change my mind.)
Across town Gi Bbeum enters jerk cameraman’s office cautiously.  She tries to give him clothes for his family as a peace-offering, but jerk cameraman won’t even let her near him.  The broken camera’s lens alone will cost him almost $2,300 to replace.  Gi Bbeum is very penitent and promises to buy the lens for him.  Jerk cameraman accepts her offer but fires her anyway, convinced she brings bad luck.  Gi Bbeum relents, but only if he promises to delete the embarrassing video he took of her.  Angrily, he barks that the video was deleted when the camera broke.  (I smell a rat.)
Calmly, Gi Bbeum heads to work at her shop, “Fantastic.”  Her phone is filled with text messages from people, but they aren’t customers with orders.  Instead, the phone rings with one hateful anti-fan text after another.  Without expression, she replies a reminder to them to only text with orders.
At the same time current star Lee Ha Im(Joo Yeon) sits in her van taking selfies on her phone.  Her assistant begs her to exit the van for the shoot, but Lee Ha Im keeps the door locked.  She calls him on his phone to tell him she won’t come out today because the dust is too heavy.  The assistant tries to relay her message to the director but is only told to try again.
Outside the van, Nan Joo and her team stand impatiently waiting for the spoiled starlet.  As they do, Gi Bbeum calls Nan Joo’s phone to tell her she has been fired.  Nan Joo is actually relieved she isn’t working for jerk cameraman anymore — she was sure he was a con artist anyhow.  Gi Bbeum assures her he wasn’t.  However, Nan Joo is not convinced and questions whether Gi Bbeum made sure the embarrassing video he took of her was deleted.  Gi Bbeum assures her he wouldn’t upload it.  (I have a bad feeling about where this is going.)  Since she’s jobless now Gi Bbeum asks if she could work at Nan Joo’s shop every day now, which Nan Joo emphatically answers her she can.
They hang up, but Nan Joo forgets to end the call.  Gi Bbeum continues to listen as Nan Joo’s team begs her to not let Gi Bbeum work with them.  Annoyed with them, Nan Joo defends her friend vehemently.  Sighing heavily, Gi Bbeum she presses the end button on her phone.
At Ma Sung’s company, his aunt stands in her office talking with her advisors and Ma Sung’s secretary and doctor.  The advisors tell her that her son, Ki Joon(Hoya), left the US early and has arrived in Korea already without her knowing.  Mom is furious and tells them to freeze his credit cards.
Her face now slipping into a smile, Aunt asks them how Ma Sung is doing.  They tell her of the “Healing Village” he is creating for dementia patients.  Although a good intention, they are concerned that the village will not be profitable.  She then turns to ask Ma Sung’s doctor how Ma Sung is doing physically.  He tells her honestly that he is not improving.  Turning her attention, she asks Ma Sung’s secretary, to ask for his schedule.  (This woman is giving me the creeps.  Every time she is around she is trying to put down or control Ma Sung or Ki Joon.)
Downstairs Ma Sung tries to lead a meeting on his new “Healing Village,” but his mind keeps distracting him with the memory of Gi Bbeum.
After the meeting ends he goes to visit his doctor.  The doctor is confounded to hear about his new memory, but Ma Sung has a theory.  (I forget Ma Sung is a neuroscientist too.)  He believes that the reason this memory was saved is because of a special relationship he must share with the mystery woman.
Afterwards, Ma Sung asks his secretary to locate the woman in his drawing. But the secretary is incredulous and scoffs that Ma Sung has become weirder lately, first with the new shoes and now this.  Baffled, Ma Sung retorts that he bought his own shoes in Milan long ago.  But the driver assures him he asked him to buy an identical pair yesterday.  Ma Sung shakes his head, wondering why he asked for replacement shoes.
Across town, Ki Joon stands in front of his entertainment agency building, sighing happily.  As he does, Lee Ha Im’s van pulls up to the building.  Ki Joon immediately recognizes her as the woman his mom slapped at the beauty shop and happily tries to start a conversation.  Lee Ha Im, however, isn’t interested.  But when she tries to enter the building, she can’t remember her password and Ki Joon has to let her in.
Inside, Lee Ha Im talks with her manager about some new scripts she’s been looking over.  (Gasp! It’s Gi Bbeum’s horrible manager from last episode.)   She isn’t happy with the scripts she’s been offered, insisting that she can only star in a “masterpiece.”  Her manager cruelly puts her down, even comparing her to Gi Bbeum when she threatens to end her contract.  Lee Ha Im is finally annoyed but subdued.
Upstairs, Ki Joon enters his entertainment agency just as his manager tells an assistant how he hates Ki Joon and wants to humiliate him.  But Ki Joon only hears “humiliate” and thinks it is a joke.  He eagerly tells his manager he ran into Lee Ha Im downstairs.  The manager is impressed, but Ki Joon declares she really wasn’t as pretty in person, nothing like Gi Bbeum.
However, his manager doesn’t agree and tells him that the only way their tiny company will survive is if Ki Joon can sign Lee Ha Im.   Ki Joon pouts that he thought he was going to be a big star for them.  But the manager tells him that he can’t make a comeback right now and suggests he give up and crawl back to his mom.  When pressed, they admit Ki Joon’s company is broke.  It is then that Ki Joon realizes his mom has cut off his funding.
Back at his office, Ma Sung is puzzling over his new shoes when Ki Joon calls his phone.  He tries to ignore the call, but Ki Joon bursts through the door, surprising him.  It is the first time Ki Joon has seen Ma Sung since the accident three years ago.  They bond for a moment before Ki Joon adorably (and hilariously) begs his cousin to buy him lunch.
On the way they fuss about everything from the menu to the car music.  But Ki Joon has a special surprise for Ma Sung.  Instead of a restaurant, he takes him to his entertainment agency, “Star Entertainment.”  Ki Joon starts to tell Ma Sung his tale of financial woe, but is interrupted immediately.  Ma Sung saw this trap coming from miles away.  He may have money, but he is a doctor not a real estate investor.
But Ki Joon persists.  There is someone he needs to save.  Ma Sung is intrigued at that choice of word, but Ki Joon will only tell him it is someone who was wrongfully framed.  Ki Joon brings all his cuteness to bear and begs his cousin to invest in him.  Ma Sung finally asks how much it costs; at which point Ki Joon launches at him in a hug.  (Aww, loving the bromance here.)
Moments later, Ma Sung signs the contract over lunch.  As Ki Joon stuffs his mouth, Ma Sung questions him about the strange memory he has had today.  Through his food, Ki Joon declares it must be an unrequited love that is causing Ma Sung to keep thinking about her.  Perhaps she is his lover?  (This kid is smarter than he acts.) However, Ma Sung is unamused.
After lunch, Ki Joon drops Ma Sung back off at work just as his phone rings.  It is the manager’s assistant with terrible news.  The embarrassing video of Gi Bbeum is online.
Around town Gi Bbeum’s brother discovers people watching the video and calls to warn his sister.  Too late Gi Bbeum rushes to jerk cameraman’s office.  The building is empty.
At the same time, Ma Sung discovers his secretary watching the clip.  The man shows him the video, but instead of laughing like everyone else, Ma Sung is startled to recognize the woman from his memory.  The driver laughs in amazement when Ma Sung tells him this is the woman they are searching for.  How can they be searching for THE Joo Gi Bbeum?
But, having lived out of the country before his accident, Ma Sung has no idea who Joo Gi Bbeum is.  The driver pulls up an old news video to watch from when Gi Bbeum was accused of killing Min Hyung Joon.  The newscaster explains that even though Joo Gi Bbeum was found not guilty, her image was ruined and all her supporters and sponsors turned on her.  His interest piqued, Ma Sung asks his secretary to look for Joo Gi Bbeum.
Not long after, the secretary returns.  He has discovered Gi Bbeum’s online store, a phone number where she can be texted to place orders, and her home address.
Later at home, Ma Sung stares at the note with Gi Bbeum’s contact info.  After hesitating, he throws the note to the ground — only for it to stick to his foot.
Back at their store, Nan Joo scolds Gi Bbeum for not confirming the video was deleted.  As Gi Bbeum literally pulls her hair in frustration, a text message alert rings on her phone.  It is Ma Sung with a message: “Can I place an order?”  When she doesn’t respond right away, he adds “20 pieces of clothing.”
But Gi Bbeum can’t imagine anyone would place an order with her right now and ignores his text.
When she still does not answer him, Ma Sung sends another text, “I mean, 50 pieces.”  Now Nan Joo and Gi Bbeum really think he is crazy.
Deciding it is still not enough, Ma Sung sends a final text.  “100 pieces!”  This does it.  Nan Joo and Gi Bbeum bounce with joy as they realize what a sale like this means for them.  Trying to keep her voice calm, Gi Bbeum calls her new customer.
“Hello, I’m from the Fantastic Shopping Mall” she cheerfully chirps when Ma Sung answers.  Her voice stays business like as she confirms that he really wants his large order, but outwardly her whole body riggles with joy.  He confirms he does want his order, which send the two girls into thrills of excitement.
“But I do have one condition.”  Ma Sung interrupts their joy to announce.  “The owner of this cellphone, so in other words, the owner of this shop must deliver the clothes herself.”
Thinking this a very suspicious request, the girls tell him that it isn’t possible.  But when Ma Sung threatens to cancel his order, Gi Bbeum immediately relents and agrees to come herself.
After hanging up, Nan Joo wonders whether the customer is some sort of weirdo to make that request.  But Gi Bbeum karate chops her in reply.  “I’m more concerned about not getting any orders!”  She snaps and hurries off to gather the order.
Soon after Gi Bbeum crosses town carrying a big black bag full of clothes.  She calls Ma Sung’s cell for directions.  However, instead of directly telling her where his house is, Ma Sung sends her through a series of ridiculous lefts and rights and up flight after flight of stairs as a test of her character.
Finally in front of Ma Sung’s house, Gi Bbeum moans to herself, “Of all places.  I used to live here.”
Seeing her outside his door, Ma Sung nods his head.  It really is the girl from his memory.  The door open, Gi Bbeum pulls her black burden awkwardly inside.
But when she raises her eyes Gi Bbeum is astonished to see Ma Sung is her mystery buyer.  “You’re the one who placed the order?”  She says in amazement.
Inside Ma Sung continues to test her patience by ordering her to pull her load of clothes to the bedroom and then the bathroom.  But when Gi Bbeum goes to the various places without needing to be told where they are, he becomes very curious.
Gi Bbeum doesn’t want him to know she was the previous owner, though, and tells him that house plans are all very similiar.  Ma Sung doesn’t buy it.
“You know me, don’t you?”  He asks her directly.  “This is a very important question to me so answer me seriously.  I feel like you know me.  Perhaps did we used to date?”
But Gi Bbeum misunderstands his meaning, assuming that he is asking because he is a flirt who can’t remember her from among his many dates.  “We didn’t date.”  She snaps at him.  Still annoyed, she wonders aloud if it bothers him that he broke the camera lens yesterday.  This triggers a memory of the camera breaking for Ma Sung, and he offers to pay for the damage.
Gi Bbeum tells him the totals for the camera lens and the clothes he ordered.  After transferring the money into her account, Ma Sung tells her that he doesn’t really want the clothes afterall.  He had called her to ask a question and he believes the reward was enough for the cost of her time.  She can “throw the clothes out”, he tells her.
Tearfully Gi Bbeum asks if he will regret his decision.  (I spy a deeper meaning.)  But Ma Sung retorts that he won’t regret what he won’t remember tomorrow.  (I know that this answer makes sense from his perspective, but from from Gi Bbeum’s viewpoint, ouch.)  Before leaving with her clothes, Gi Bbeum straightens and tells Ma Sung that although these clothes might not be worth anything to him, they are her a matter of survival to her.
But standing outside his house, Gi Bbeum is far less brave.  She crouches down in the street and reminds herself not to cry.  (Sniff! I’m not crying, you are.)
On street in front of Gi Bbeum’s home, Ki Joon sits watching the road.  When suddenly Sa Rang slams down on his windshield making him squeal in fear.  She glares at him through the windshield with eyes of death before pulling off and heading inside.  But Ki Joon is undeterred and runs after her.
“Is this where Joo Gi Bbeum lives?” He asks her.  Sa Rang retorts that it is her house before turning to go.  As she leaves we see her shirt again rudely states “What are you lookin’ at!?!”
Just then Gi Bbeum herself comes walking down the road awkwardly dragging her black load.  Ki Joon’s smile explodes across his face when he sees and goes running toward her.  “You’re still shinning as ever, my first love.”  He says happily.
However, Gi Bbeum has no idea who he is and pulls back in confusion.  “Who are you?”  She asks.  In reply he tells her they were in a drama together five years ago and that they even kissed.
At that Gi Bbeum does start to remember.  In flashback we see a much younger looking Ki Joon awkwardly chewing his nail as Gi Bbeum creeps playfully up behind him.  But instead of telling Gi Bbeum he loves her, Ki Joon fouls up the line and says he “persons her.”  At that the director cries cut in exasperation…apparently this isn’t the first time.
Back in the present, Gi Bbeum really does remember him, which delights Ki Joon no end.  Ki Joon notices her bag of clothes, and Gi Bbeum admits “some weirdo” bought them and then didn’t want them.  She figures that she seems pathetic for bringing the clothes back.  But Ki Joon assures her she is just thrifty.  Gi Bbeum says she isn’t sure what to do with the clothes, at which Ki Joon beams.  He has the perfect idea.
Cut to Gi Bbeum and Ki Joon driving up to a street full of homeless people.  Moments later the people dance in joy as they wear Gi Bbeum’s new clothes and the givers give eachother a high five.
Back in his study, Ma Sung is again trying to write in his journal.  But he can’t stop thinking about Gi Bbeum.  He reaches a hand up to feel his heartbeat.  “That woman has a way of making people feel uncomfortable,” he notes.
Moments later we see Ma Sung sitting in his car.  Strangely, He is wearing sunglasses even though it is night.  He reacts as a car’s headlights pass in front of his car.  “What am I doing?!”  He asks himself, but ends up driving anyway.
On the road in front of Gi Bbeum’s home, she and Ki Joon are saying their goodbyes after their fun afternoon.  After she leaves, Ki Joon does a happy dance.  He could not be happier to have been with his idol.  “I’ll make you big again.”  He quietly promises.
Before Gi Bbeum can reach her house, though, Ma Sung arrives at the door.  He walks into the front yard  and heads up to the curtain door.  But before he can know Sa Rang screams “It’s a thief!” at the top of her lungs.  Ma Sung is confused and laughs that she thought he looked like a thief.  But cocky Sa Rang insists he did and tells him to get lost before walking around him to go inside.
Just then Gi Bbeum’s dad comes up drunk as ever and accuses him of eating the ramyun from the bowl in his hand.  Ma Sung assures him he did not eat the ramyun.  Dad decides to believe him and let him “pass.”  By now Ma Sung is very confused and turns to leave, but Dad calls him back for a lecture on the dispossal of cigarette butts.  (Bwahaha!)  When Ma Sung assures him that he doesn’t smoke, Dad again agrees to let him “pass.”  Again Ma Sung turns to go and again Dad calls him back to ask if he knows how much government spending is wasted on trash people don’t sort properly.
Before Dad can “pass” him again, Gi Bbeum comes up and sends Dad inside.
After seeing Dad is safely inside, Gi Bbeum turns to ask Ma Sung what he is doing there.  Ma Sung doesn’t answer though, and instead questions her about who the people are that he just met.  Gi Bbeum answers him but then demands how he found her.  He tells her that he found the address on her website.
But Gi Bbeum flatly responds that she never put her home address on her website.  Skirting the issue, Ma Sung tells her he came for the clothes he bought.  Gi Bbeum tells him that she doesn’t have them anymore, which Ma Sung assumes means she sold them again.  He marvels at her amazing survival skills.  But he isn’t mad.  If she doesn’t have his clothes, he will accept a few minutes to talk with her instead.  (Awkward lover boy is adorable.)
Gi Bbeum refuses to talk to him for even two minutes.  Ma Sung feels very put out by this and scolds her for not even talking to him when he has gone through so much hardship to come here.
“Why should I have to waste my precious time on you?”  Gi Bbeum snaps back.  “I can’t even spare one second.  I don’t want to.”  (You tell him, girl!)
Ma Sung is flabbergasted and wonders at her confidence in ignoring him, especially considering the position she is in.  Gi Bbeum assures him that confidence does not come from the environment, but the heart.
“So this is why people hate you so much.”  Ma Sung softly observes.  “Because of your unwarranted confidence.”  (Too far, Ma Sung.  Don’t you dare hurt our tender girl.)  He notes her many anti-fans, finally deciding there is no way he would have aquainted himself with someone like her.
He leaves, but Gi Bbeum follows pounding after him and throws the bag she was holding hard against his back.
“What are you doing?” He asks her.
“I’d like to ask you the same thing.  What are you doing?”  She snaps back.  “Why?  Are you angry?  Hurt?  Like me, do you feel it is unfair?  Evil jerk.”  Ma Sung sputters at this, but she continues, “Why didn’t you show up that day?”  By now she has Ma Sung’s full attention.  “You even kissed me,” she tells him.
Ma Sung is astounded and repeats, “I kissed you?”  But Gi Bbeum assumes that he can’t remember because he doesn’t want to.  Ma Sung begs her to be more specific, but Gi Bbeum angrily tells him she shouldn’t have to remind him.
“It’s because,” he tells her sadly, “I can’t remember that I’m asking.”  But Gi Bbeum misunderstands believing he is a playboy.  She firmly warns him never to fall in love and hurt someone with his memory again.  She adds for him to never acknowledge her again, even if they see eachother.
“Is this how we broke up?”  He asks her quietly.  “Did you try to push me away while I tried to stop you?  Well, now it is time for you to decide.”
“Decide what?” She huffs back.
“Whether it would be okay for me to remember you tomorrow.  Or if I should erase you.”
At this Gi Bbeum breathes in sharply.  Her eyes drift down to the tattoo of the memory flower on Ma Sung’s hand.  “Don’t remember.”  She tells him and walks away.
Ma Sung nods his head, but his eyes follow her sadly as she goes up the stairs back home.
My Thoughts:
Although I am still in love with this show, Ma Sung’s personality change has really been for the worse.  It feels like his dementia has affected every part of his character and caused him to be rigid and rough — like every other snotty kdrama chaebal.  I am really ready for Devilish Joy to return my happy puppy.
Also, the way he interacts with Gi Bbeum is strange.  I get that he is self-concious about his inability to remember and has gone to great lengths to keep it from being noticeable, but come on!  EXPLAIN IT TO HER!  She has no idea that he can’t remember her so she completely misunderstands everything he says to her.  If he really thinks that she has this deep connection to him he might want to rethink his way of treating her.  Does he expect her to want to know him after he harrasses her and tells her she isn’t worth remembering?
Ki Joon on the other hand is entirely adorable.  I love how he manages to find the greatest joy at the smallest thing, like when Gi Bbeum remembered his name.  And I don’t even mind how obsessed he is with her, although it does border on stalking, because he is more of a daddy long legs than a full on stalker.  Seriously, this kid has a heart of gold.
The exact opposite is Ma Sung’s aunt.  This woman is giving me chills in the biggest way.  The way that she secretly watches and controls every part of her son and Ma Sung’s life feels so wrong.  And seriously, why is Ma Sung’s doctor even telling her everything she asks?  What happened to doctor/patient confidentiality?  Ugh.
But it is interesting to me that all of our characters in one way or another tie into a theme of protectiveness in this drama.  Ma Sung’s aunt showed it by being overprotective of her boys; Ki Joon showed it through his obsession with restoring his “first love” to her former glory; Gi Bbeum’s friend and family had it constantly; and Ma Sung showed it most of all in the first episode when he was drawn to Gi Bbeum because she needed rescuing from the gang of thugs.  If she hadn’t need him he might never have been attracted at all.  And then we saw it again when he saved her from drowning and was oddly protective and sincere about promising never to leave her.
I wonder how much further the drama will take the protective theme.  It would be nice to see if they can tie it into Gi Bbeum’s relationship with Ma Sung more.  Maybe Gi Bbeum could use some of her bright spunk to protect Ma Sung from himself and others…especially that weirdly protective Aunt.
So what did you think of Episode 2 of Devilish Joy?
The drama said its goodbyes last month, that I know. That’s why I think it’s time to wrap up my thoughts around it too. I know its hard to bid farewell, but oh well, not all of them can be just sad. There are farewells like this that are necessary and can’t be avoided, but I guess, it’s the right time to say ‘annyeong’ with a smile to our prickly CEO, Lee Yoo Chan and our energy bunny, Kim Bora Bora, and their journey to each other.
About
Rich Man is the 2018 Korean remake of the Japanese original, titled ‘Rich Man, Poor Woman’. As I mentioned from my ‘First Impression’ post of this drama before, I didn’t watch the original and I still don’t have any plans of doing so. Nonetheless, I can say that I enjoyed this drama more than I thought I will.
Although the chaebol guy and poor girl pairing is already overused in the past, the drama has proven its effect still strong to those who watch it.
Lee Yoo Chan is the prickly CEO who is a genius and a billionaire. He, along with Min Tae Joo, setup the start up company, Next In. On the other hand, Kim Bo Ra is the simple, country bumpkin who is hopelessly looking for a job. She’s not exactly that poor, I guess, and there are no awful monster to-be in-laws to degrade her being poor, but Kim Bo Ra’s struggle is about her being able to find a suitable job for her.
Thanks to her awfully superb memorizing skills, albeit unconventionally, she gets hired as a part-timer by Lee Yoo Chan to help present his ‘Mini File’ project and then later as the story goes, the ‘Big File’ project that Lee Yoo Chan’s friend and business partner, Min Tae Joo, sabotages out of envy.
Next In experiences a breach in security in their ‘Mini File’ project, causing a leak of information on the profiles of millions of Korean citizens. This unexpected hurdle pushes Lee Yoo Chan to strive even better, but just as he was to spread his wings to save the day, Min Tae Joo took it as his role to cut them and kick him out of his own company.
Eventually, Tae Joo takes over Next In, but with his greed and awful leading skills, he experiences a lot of difficulties in running the IT company despite great support from his father’s company, Taesan.
Yoo Chan takes a slump, sells his own car, lets go of his humongous home and barely has any penny left in his bank, but then has Kim Bo Ra to pick him up. Bo Ra leaves Next In to encourage Yoo Chan he can make even better things and though it was hard to cheer up a man who didn’t want to get up and take another leap of faith, she does her best to keep him on his feet with his chin up. She ask for the aid of her sunbae, Cha Do Jin, and eventually Cha Do Jin’s office transforms to their newly established company ‘Dancing Whale’ (name courtesy to Kim Bo Ra–I must admit I cringed at that name) and Yoo Chan and Bora mostly tries to business by personally going to people to promote their new developments. Later, they gain back the Big File team and create more innovative things. This time, however, Yoo Chan doesn’t anymore feel like he was working and that he was responsible alone. He learns to have confidence with his team and that broke the wall he built to ward off others.
In a sudden turn of events, Min Tae Joo confesses his faults. He tells everyone he is the reason to the breach that happened to Next In before and that he was going to make himself responsible for this downfall. He gets locked up in prison. This worries Yoo Chan, however, and with careful consideration decides he can’t just let Next In crumble. He accepts the CEO position again to get the company back to its feet.
However, Kim Bo Ra is conflicted about her own career. She wants to be next to Lee Yoo Chan, but she also knows that can’t happen forever. She’s convinced Lee Yoo Chan doesn’t have strong feelings for her, so why hang around when it’s pretty unsure? Besides, she’s right into thinking her world can’t just revolve around one guy. She is young and there are still so many things she can do. That’s why I salute her for choosing to find her own path and be away with Lee Yoo Chan.
But though this is a silly idea, Yoo Chan only realizes how important Bo Ra is to him when he is about to lose her. I guess, he’s too dense to realize this important feeling and the moment he finds the courage to admit it, he’s about to lose his girl in a freaking airport. Cliche, yes, but the novelty of happy endings often start at the airport in Korean dramas… for some reason–not in all of them but quite often. Well, at least, after that, they all lived happily ever after.
Final Impression
The drama has impressed me quite a bit. Because despite it being only a remake, it managed to make a mark of its own. It’s packed with light drama, fluttering yet prickly romance between the in denial, stubborn CEO and the dedicated admirer, sometimes annoying second leads, very supportive friends and mystery that will make you realize the world is small enough for two unknowing people to meet and maybe that’s what you can call fate.
And though I know I am not in the right position to compare it to the Japanese version, I must say this is worth giving a shot. If you’re up for something cliche but you can relate with, I am pretty sure you can work well with Rich Man. It’s somewhat in the mid-range playing ground if you ask me. Cool but not too impressive. Heart fluttering but not something that you can call unforgettable.
There are a lot more better dramas than this, with a deeper story line and cliche-defying twist that will surely make you gasp in surprise and confusion, I must admit. The production, though, is above average–it’s dedicated and honest. For sure they didn’t slack with the funding.
Plus, using fresh faces for the actors portraying the characters with the additional large fanbase that they carry with their name, isn’t something to overlook. That thought alone will make you want to anticipate such a drama.
The acting, too, isn’t poor, which is impressive already on its own.
Suho isn’t new to the limelight, but I know that this is one of his first attempts into acting with a major role in a drama. I must have mentioned this before and I saw one of his mini series before called ‘The Universe’ Star’ and the guy definitely charmed his way to my heart. I had my fair share of doubts about him portraying the CEO role of Lee Yoo Chan, but I guess nothing could have been more perfect than him to play the role–considering Yoo Chan’s geeky, hedgehog and sometimes childish personality. I had fret for him the entire drama but inconsistency isn’t present. He truly did well and for sure he will do even better in his future roles.
Ha Yeon Soo is, as always, cute and charming. Has earnest eyes and acting that fit the role of Kim Bo Ra, who is honest, dedicated and a hard worker. Plus, I’ve just recently seen a picture of the Japanese female lead and they somehow look alike, but pretty and youthful.
cinematography, theme songs, story flow and pacing
Cinematography – the shots are actually pretty good, but sometimes I feel like they overuse the ‘bokeh’ (I use the AI camera effect in phones for better understanding) effect–it’s when they blur the background to give emphasis to the person being projected on screen–and blurring the background too much makes it feel too unreal for the setting. And certainly, that’s kind of annoying.
Theme songs – the songs are pretty catchy, the lyrics are quite amazing and they fit the scenes and sets the mood of the drama. I think this is one of those dramas that I like the theme songs so much I downloaded them and saved basically an entire album of it in my phone. My personal favorite is Nam Taehyun’s Real Love!
Story Flow – A back and forth flow of the present and past. The beginning is full of mysteries and reminiscence of the past but it isn’t hard to follow through. However, the second half of the series is a bit painful to watch since it becomes rough from there and though it’s a bonus to the drama they added a love line for Tae Ra–which is good for her–but not really something I could care less about–and for Mi So (Bo Ra’s friend)–it is unnecessary.  I just think they put it out there so everyone is happy in the end and no one is left behind.
Pacing – the love story between Kim Bo Ra and Lee Yoo Chan is painfully slow that I want to poke Tae Ra’s eyes out for having more kissing scenes with Yoo Chan than  Bo Ra has. Plus, the earlier episodes seems lacking with action and thing going on in it compared to the last two episodes which seems rather rushed and full with drama and developments. Not that I’m complaining about it, but I just wanna point out the facts.
Shortcomings
Rich Man, as a big picture, is quite good for an average drama with 16 episodes. I must say, however, if we’re going to look into the smaller picture that makes up the entire whole, besides Lee Yoo Chan, the other characters lack build up. We know about Yoo Chan’s character, habits and past, but the only thing we know about Bo Ra revolves around her memories with him.
Mi So is introduced as her friend and later someone that got knocked up by Cha Do Jin, but their story isn’t that well explored, I feel like it would be better if, as second or third leads, their story would have been better told in a different light and isn’t just highlighted when they got married during the ending scenes.
Tae Ra is given quite the character of a sophisticated and spoiled daughter of a sick rich man, however, I didn’t grow fond of her character. At some point, she actually becomes annoying especially when she asked Bo Ra to stay away from Yoo Chan and when she sided with her brother and yet couldn’t stick to her decision in the end when Tae Joo sends Yoo Chan to his greatest downfall.
Min Tae Joo would have been a great second lead if he didn’t go to the dark side–which is too cliche for too good to be true characters that are eventually nice but turns evil after being unfairly treated. His character is one example of a role which I don’t understand. I mean, there must be as irrational people as him who doesn’t think before they act, but to go so far as ruining your closest friend? Not good. But then again, maybe this is where the quote ‘your best friend can be your worst enemy’ applies. Because he knows so much about you that he can use it against you. And yes, his wrong decisions led to useless downfall that made him dig his own grave, but all is well as long as there is forgiveness and acceptance. At least, he still had his own happy ending.
Another thing that I took great notice of is the rushed ending. I feel like they packed everything in the last episode that after watching it, I asked myself ‘is that it? no next episode or anything?’. Though I am happy that everyone has their happy ending, I must admit I feel like there should have been more to it. An episode 17 may not be necessary, but it would have been greatly welcomed.
Over all
To sum it up, although there are unsatisfying moments and a relationship that finally blossomed late into the ending, I must say I enjoyed the journey with Rich Man. It didn’t make me tear up, but made my heart flutter and my lips to stretch to a smile. It’s the kind of drama I won’t get a hangover with after watching, but it’s a drama I won’t pass on.
So, I will rate it a 4.2 out of 5 as its final grade.
    Final Thoughts: Rich Man (2018) The drama said its goodbyes last month, that I know. That's why I think it's time to wrap up my thoughts around it too.
Tale of the Nine Tailed: Eps 15-16 Predictions
Unfortunately as TOTNT draws to an end, so shall these posts! This will probably be my last post concerning TOTNT unless there is something of great importance that happens in the finale that would warrant a discussion. Overall, everything in the series made sense if you actually did your fair share of research of mythology from around the world.  Anyways, I will try to make this post as short as possible for your sake and mine!
Predictions Based on Ep 15 Preview
One Last Date
There’s not much to say about this portion except that Ji Ah and Lee Yeon just go on one last date before everything blows up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s Get Sato’s Moon Mirror
The Imoogi will go to get Sato’s Moon Mirror by killing him. Based on this scene, it looks like this will occur in a bathroom (notice the paper towel dispenser and mirror?).
Tumblr media
Hello Mother, It Has Been A Long Time
The Imoogi spirit has been inhabiting Bok Gil’s immortal body. Taluipa will be shocked to see that her dead son body was being used by the Imoogi. Out of anger, she will try to turn him into stone. However, since Terry now has the Moon Mirror, he will use it to deflect Taluipa’s Medusa stone turning power. This will cause her to turn into stone instead.
After killing Taluipa, Terry will change Ji Ah’s death date to ensure that his other half can now live freely. Then Terry reunites with Ji Ah outside of the Office of the Afterlife to go over the next part of their plan.
Betrayed On All Sides
Lee Yeon not having been aware of what all has happened, will return to his apartment. It is there that he will see Ji Ah standing at the window. Ji Ah will turn around to reveal she’s once again taken over by the Imoogi. At that moment, Lee Rang, Shin Ju, and the Snail Bride will sneak attack Lee Yeon to get his body. Lee Yeon escapes by knocking them all out.
Final Showdown
Lee Yeon realizes the Terry Imoogi has betrayed him so Lee Yeon decides to head to the Office of the Afterlife to stop him once and for all. Lee Yeon will find that Taluipa has now been turned into stone at her desk (see Taluipa’s stone statue in red circle).
As Lee Yeon is fighting Terry Imoogi, Ji Ah Imoogi arrives at the scene and blocks Lee Yeon from stabbing Terry Imoogi (see red arrow of Terry hiding behind Ji Ah Imoogi).
Tumblr media
Ji Ah temporarily regains control of her body and tries to end her life with the CEO’s gun. Also, note the brown couch (red arrow) in the background of Ji Ah, showing that this occurs at the Office of the Afterlife. Ji Ah will fail at killing herself because either Terry Imoogi has stopped her or the Imoogi inside of her has gain back control.
Save Yuri or Save Lee Yeon
Lee Rang wakes up and immediately heads to the Office of the Afterlife where Yuri is there to stop him. Her eyes look pretty dead so my guess is that she’s probably being compelled by the Imoogi to block Lee Rang’s path to Lee Yeon.
Lee Rang is faced with an obstacle similar to what Lee Yeon had to face 600 years ago, which is who to save when both people are considered equally as precious. I think Lee Rang will probably knock Yuri out or maybe Shin Joo will if he tags along with Lee Rang to the office.
Lee Yeon’s Decision
Lee Yeon will decide to go through with his original plan of taking Ji Ah’s half into himself. Lee Rang arrives at that very moment and is faced with having to kill his brother. However, I don’t think Lee Rang will be mentally strong enough to do it. Possessed Lee Yeon will then stab Lee Rang. Following this, Lee Yeon will temporarily gain back control of his body long enough to get to the River Styx.
I’ll Chase You Like You Chased Me at the River Styx
This scene of Ji Ah running in the Office of the Afterlife seems like it happens right after Lee Yeon has taken the Imoogi piece out of her (notice that she no longer has scales on her face or neck). Ji Ah is probably running towards the River Styx to prevent Lee Yeon from jumping into it. This parallels to past when Lee Yeon was running to the River Styx to save Ah Eum’s soul.
Everyone Has Been A Puppet
There are no coincidences in TOTNT. Every single character has been a puppet in King Yeomra’s grand scheme of finding his perfect replacement. From legends, it is told that King Yeomra was the first to have faced death. In doing so, Yeomra became the King of the Underworld. In Yeomra’s eyes, the candidate best suited to take over his position should also have to face a similar situation. Therefore, Lee Yeon will prove himself worthy by jumping into the River Styx.
Morals of the Story
1)    People who remain good despite experiencing tragedies in their lives will get rewarded
2)    Bad people are given opportunities to change their terrible fate by doing good deeds
3)    Bad people who do not change their ways despite being given opportunities to do so will meet the ultimate punishment (being erased from existence entirely)
Final Outcomes for TOTNT Characters
Everyone will get a happy ending except the Imoogi!
Lee Yeon becomes the next King Hades
Ji Ah becomes an immortal, takes over Taluipa’s job, and she has a kid with Lee Yeon
Taluipa gets brought back to life and decides to leave her job to focus on repairing her relationship with Hyun Ui Ong
Bok Gil may or may not come back to life. I’m just not sure if his soul will remain once the Imoogi leaves his body. Although it would be nice if in the end Hyun Ui Ong gets back both his wife and son.
Shin Joo and Yuri have a happily ever after and many fox babies
Lee Rang lives a long happy life being Kim Soo Oh’s father
Ji Ah’s two coworkers will date or get married and live after happily ever after
Snail Bride gets her husband back and they too live happily ever after
Ji Ah’s parents live out what remains of their lifespan. When they do die, they will die knowing that their daughter will always have a life that is blessed with a family of her own
