‘kay! let’s do my current obscure operatic hyperfixation—bohuslav martinu’s the greek passion!
manolios: russell thomas/allan clayton
katerina: lise davidsen/julia bullock (“savannah those are two COMPLETELY different voices” i promise if you listen to the opera this will make sense)
father fotis: alexander tsymbalyuk/kyle ketelsen
father grigoris: christian van horn/nicholas brownlee (not to be confused with lawrence brownlee, who is a tenor)
yannakos: eric cutler
michelis: benjamin bernheim
kostandis: will liverman
panait: brandon jovanovich
lenio: ying fang/léa desandre
patriarcheas: john relyea

[“savannah most of these roles are not large enough to justify the singers” i don’t care]
there are also other roles—the schoolmaster, father ladas, despinio, andonis, the old man and the old woman—but we’ll go with this.

"Is it a tragedeigh or a murghdur if each of your children have 10+ first names *and* 10+ middle names??
including their birth certificates and every official form AFAIK... they even teach their kids to write/spell all of their names from a relatively young age
[Edit: I have obviously not seen their official documents. I would love to discover that they had to shorten the names for the official papers. I can only tell you what friends & family were told]
Here are the names [ps i redacted their first names because of searchable birth announcements... plenty of names left to critique tho!]
'Some have inquired about our children's long names, so I've decided to share them. I often say all of them when they are in trouble because by the time I get to the end of the litany I'm not as upset with them anymore. But jokes aside, [spouse] and I are name nerds and etymology buffs, so there is always a really thoughtful, purposeful, and particular process when coming up with the names for our children. Without further ado...

Quick Change Artist Léa Kyle’s Breathtaking Performance on AGT Live Shows
Léa Kyle, the 25-year-old quick-change artist, delivers an incredibly quick-change performance on the beautiful Dolby Theater stage at AGT live shows episode tonight.
The French magician got Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer after her breathtaking audition on America’s Got Talent. Lea deserved the golden buzzer. And no sob story, either. Just a sincere, personable, lovely, relatively shy young woman…

Léa Kyle Performs DAZZLING Quick-Change - America's Got Talent 2021
If only we could do *those* kinda quick changes in theater. Although I've seen a few from one stage preformed Cinderella that had this kind of change during the actresses change for the ball. Watched it a million times, slow motion n everything... couldnt get it. This is also the first time I've ever seen it used right in front of the audience!
For some reason I think she'd be one to be to hard on herself over that one dress malfunctioning. Shit happens sweetheart. Especially on stage, lol. It was freaking brilliant!! ❤.

Friday Releases for December 10
Friday is the busiest day of the week for new releases, so we've decided to collect them all in one place. Friday Releases for December 10 include The Expanse S6, Saturday Morning All Star Hits!, France, and more.
West Side Story
West Side Story, the new movie from Steven Spielberg, is out today.
Directed by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City.
France
France, the new movie from Bruno Dumont, is out today.
Léa Seydoux brilliantly holds the center of Bruno Dumont’s unexpected, unsettling new film, which starts out as a satire of the contemporary news media before steadily spiraling out into something richer and darker. Never one to shy away from provoking his viewers, Dumont casts Seydoux as France de Meurs, a seemingly unflappable superstar TV journalist whose career, homelife, and psychological stability are shaken after she carelessly drives into a young delivery man on a busy Paris street. This accident triggers a series of self-reckonings, as well as a strange romance that proves impossible to shake. A film that teases at redemption while refusing to grant absolution, France is tragicomic and deliciously ambivalent—a very 21st-century treatment of the difficulty of maintaining identity in a corrosive culture.
Being the Ricardos
Being the Ricardos, the new movie from Aaron Sorkin, is out today.
Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) are threatened by shocking personal accusations, a political smear and cultural taboos in Academy Award-winning writer and director Aaron Sorkin’s behind-the-scenes drama Being the Ricardos. A revealing glimpse of the couple’s complex romantic and professional relationship, the film takes audiences into the writers’ room, onto the soundstage and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week of their groundbreaking sitcom “I Love Lucy.”
Agnes
Agnes, the new movie from Mickey Reece, is out today.
Inside a quaint convent, young Sister Agnes explodes with an outburst of rage and blasphemy, causing the church to send veteran priest Father Donaghue and a younger priest-on-the-rise, Benjamin, to investigate the incident as a potential demonic possession.
National Champions
National Champions, the new movie from Ric Roman Waugh, is out today.
Three days before the college football national championship game, star quarterback LeMarcus James (Stephan James) and teammate Emmett Sunday (Alexander Ludwig) ignite a player’s strike declaring they won’t compete until all student-athletes are fairly compensated. With billions of dollars at risk and legacies on the line, the stakes could not be higher. Now, with only hours until kickoff, the head coach (J.K. Simmons) and various power brokers (Lil Rel Howery, Tim Blake Nelson, Andrew Bachelor, Jeffrey Donovan, David Koechner, Kristin Chenoweth, Timothy Olyphant, Uzo Aduba) must race against the clock to protect or destroy the prevailing collegiate athletics system.
American Refugee
American Refugee, the new movie from Ali LeRoi, is out today.
In the midst of societal collapse, Greg and Helen Taylor (Derek Luke, Erika Alexander) are faced with protecting their family from the anarchy of the outside world. As a last resort, the family takes shelter in a neighbor’s bunker where their fate lies in the hands of the family patriarch (Sam Trammell), a survivalist, whose mercy lasts only as long as they prove themselves useful. Supplies are scarce, and when tensions rise, no one knows who can really be trusted.
Saturday Morning All Star Hits!
Saturday Morning All Star Hits!, the new TV series from Kyle Mooney, is out today.
Saturday Morning All Star Hits! is an adult animated and live action hybrid series celebrating all that is 80s and 90s television. Wildly irreverent and slightly disturbing, twin hosts Skip and Treybor (Kyle Mooney) take us on a trip through the Saturday Morning cartoon experience.
Crossing Swords S2
The second season of Crossing Swords, the TV series from John Harvatine IV and Tom Root, is out today.
Hulu’s stop-motion medieval comedy Crossing Swords returns for season two! Another ten episodes of bingeable mayhem, representing the next chapter in the adventures of Patrick the long-suffering squire (Nicholas Hoult) as he climbs the ladder of knighthood in the service of the volatile King Merriman (Luke Evans). There are new friends to make, new enemies to vanquish, and new horrors to scar Patrick for life; including bloodthirsty leprechauns, an island of killer monkeys, and a shadowy villain who could destroy everything Patrick has ever known!
The Expanse S6
The sixth season of The Expanse, the TV series from Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, is out today.
Holden and the crew of the Rocinante fight alongside the Combined Fleet of Earth and Mars to protect the Inner Planets from Marco Inaros and his Free Navy’s campaign of death and destruction. Meanwhile, on a distant planet beyond the Rings, a new power rises.

Did you discover any new opera singers (or old singers in new/new-to-you) roles this year?
Yes!!! Yes I did. Oddly enough, mostly mezzos: the five big ones that come to mind are Ève-Maud Hubeaux, Angela Brower, Léa Desandre, Gaëlle Arquez, and Adèle Charvet, all of whom are ridiculously awesome. There are other singers too but HOLY COW MEZZOS?!?!?!?!
(Other singers I had particular fun discovering this year include but are not limited to: Elliot Madore, Will Liverman, Mariangela Sicilia, Julie Fuchs, Ana Durlovski, Mathias Vidal, Ana Quintans, Mert Sungu, Julia Bullock, Kyle Ketelsen, and Emma Matthews.)
