I have a question about TMA if that’s all cool

which character sprouted in your head first? And who’s the hardest to write ?

Ooooh fun!!

So the first character I came up with was actually Leore, but his character was very different to who he is now. All that I really knew about him was his situation. Esryn was next, and Amali followed soon after.

Then Larch came, then Rsejli, then Kylam.

The hardest character to write. Hmmm...u wouldn't say any of them were particularly difficult, but the one that takes the most effort is probably Esryn, because of the specificity of the different emotions I'm trying to evoke in her chapters. The Magician's Assistant is Esryn’s healing story and her journey is the focus of the story, so I work hard to make sure the reader is invested in the journey.

It's also interesting to write Esryn because I resonate deeply with some of the feelings she has, so sometimes it's hard to not spill myself out on the page instead of her.

The First Line

There was nothing hotter than Stakar when he was angry. As she watched him pick off the same people who had almost gotten her killed, she felt a growing sensation she hadn’t felt for some time and wished the moment could last forever. ‘I should get shot more often,’ she thought. He only ever got this riled up when she got hurt. Her shoulder chose that moment to flare up with pain and she ground her teeth and allowed her second-in-command, a Xandarian named Sama to help her stand. She staggered, but the other woman took her weight easily and walked her to the pod. “Isn’t he the sexiest thing you’ve ever seen?”

So this bullshit started because of a close friend of mine (who shall remain unnamed for her safety). Told me that reylos are hating on the new books to be released because damerey is so prominent on the cover. As if the signs couldn’t get through their stupid brains anyway here’s a little recap.

CLEARLY REYLO IS NOT SOMETHING THE CAST SUPPORTS IN FACT THEY ARE MORE OPEN TO FINN POE ANYWAY.

Anyway Reylos are complaining about the books and how the cover is all damerey and both books don’t feature Kylo but rather Rose Tico and Reylos are hating on her.

Now here’s my two cents:

THESE BOOKS ARE CLEARLY ABOUT THE RESISTANCE REBUILDING. ITS NOT ABOUT REY OR KYLO AND NOBODY WANTS THEM ANYWAY BECAUSE THEY ARE CLEARLY ENEMIES.

YALL ARE SO FUCKING STUPID IF YOU CANNOT SEE THAT THE SHIP YOU ARE SUPPORTING IS TOXIC AND YOU ARE MAKING IT EVEN MORE SO. NOW GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FANDOM PLEASE.

How does your oc making process usually go??

Ooooo there are a few ways this can go but mostly it starts with...like...abstract words and ideas that kinda give the essence of who I'm trying to create.

For example, with Leore, all I was picturing was this absolutely lonely man staring at the night sky. With Esryn, I saw hope and I saw agony. Amali was angry before she was anything else. It's strange how I knew she was Destruction before I knew anything else about her.

Another way it could go is that I have a story concept and I need characters that will fit the story I'm trying to tell. An example of this is the recently created Oreya Rask. She's the younger sibling, she's dainty and light and so utterly, despairingly trusting, and it leads to her getting hurt. A lot. Badly.

She's exactly what I needed to represent this girl who in my mind was a fallen angel who needed to toughen up to survive.

Then there are also characters I didn't know I needed, but would be lost in the story without them. Those ones just come and build themselves up as I go along. Larch is one of those characters. So is Rsejli. Amali too. Originally, The Magician's Assistant was going to be Leore and Esryn's story. Then my most darling creations burst into my mind and onto the page and I have no clue where TMA would be without them.

Similar but also different to the last one, we have side characters. They have roles in the story, but they could have been anyone, and they ended up as who they are. Examples of characters like this include Kayati, Narem, Sutar, Kylam, Mylore and Tyla.
