#Katniss’ parents

The parallels between Katniss and her mother are quite apparent when it comes to their reactions to grief (as displayed when Mrs. Everdeen lost Katniss’ father and when Katniss lost Peeta and Prim). There’s been posts made about that on here many times before.
But we never really explore the opposition in their choice of man. What I mean is, we’re led to believe (granted, based on very little hints in the first book) that Mrs. Everdeen was with Mr. Mellark in some fashion, at the very least. Enough that he felt it was not only plausible that he could marry her but seemed to be still holding a candle for her all those years later. Mr. Mellark was a merchant, someone from her side of the district, part of the well-to-do class of Twelve. But she instead chose Mr. Everdeen, a poor, coal miner who couldn’t only give her a simple life in the Seam. A life that is much more difficult objectively and in a place that even her own daughter claims she sticks out like a sore thumb in (appearance wise).
Katniss, her daughter, on the other hand, chose Peeta in the end. Even before Mockingjay, it was obvious to anyone really paying attention (in the story or as a reader) who’d she fallen in love with. Gale was a strong, attractive guy from the Seam, who’d lived a pretty parallel life to hers, who was her partner in crime — literally — and her best friend. Everyone expected them to get together. Even the reporters who came from the Capitol took one look at him and thought he seemed like a threat to the idea of the Star-Crossed-Lovers being portrayed on the television screens. And yet, Katniss chose Peeta, not Gale. Peeta, who at the start, she seems to have nothing in common with. Not in terms of their upbringings (she was super poor and starving, he was popular and more comfortable but implied to suffer from heavy child abuse) and not in terms of their mindsets either. But there was an inexplicable attraction between the two, an instinctive pull bringing her back to him no matter how much she tried to fight it. And I suspect her mother had the same feeling, for Mr. Everdeen. That feeling is what led Katniss to choose Peeta over Gale, despite the fact that Gale may have seemed from an outside, detached perspective, like her natural choice of romantic partner. And that feeling is probably what also led her mother to make the same choice all those years before.
Idk I just think it’s interesting that Katniss chose Peeta but her mother — in a lot of ways — chose her Gale. Although there’s a strong argument to be made that her mother was actually choosing her version of Peeta by choosing Katniss’ father but my brain’s not there quite yet.
This post also could have been written and summed up a lot quicker if I’d just said, the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale and the love triangle between Mrs. Everdeen, Mr. Everdeen and Mr. Mellark are actually parallel love triangles that ended with the woman choosing the opposite type of man.

Katniss thinking that Peeta is dad material in the Catching Fire book is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Everlark as parents--Katniss is definitely going to be the have-another-cookie, stay-up-an-extra-half-hour parent and Peeta will be the enforcer--"no, you've had two cookies already, now brush your teeth and go to bed, you have ten minutes."
But Katniss is going to be the super protective mom. The "I have to meet their parents before you go over to their house" and "no, I said no sleepovers" and "yes, I still have to walk you to school." While Peeta has to monitor her protectiveness and strike the middle ground. ("honeybee, you were going into the woods alone at her age, she can go to the grocery store on her own, it's only two blocks").
It keeps the toast babies guessing sometimes about whether what they're asking for is an indulgence their mom won't be able to resist giving them, or some unknown danger they hadn't even thought of yet.

when blue meets silver
This is all based on the idea that Maude Ivory is Katniss' grandmother, and if that's true, then this would've happened in every generation!

So I'm reading a fanfic that is basically the hunger games but from peeta's pov and it really got me thinking, u really have to applause finnick and johanna it definitely wasn't easy keeping both peeta and katniss alive when they were both ready to die for each other at any moment

Katniss and Peeta's kids not knowing what the desperation of hunger feels like, all the time having fresh food at home and birthday cakes to look forward to every year. The learning process of how to provide with their parents' assistance, baking goods, hunting game, and how to gather what's the best to put on their plates, becomes an organic and loved bond. Katniss' maternal heart must get impossibly warmer every passing night, when she can undoubtedly and peacefully tuck in her two babies to bed, knowing their tummies will always be full.

Post-revolution Annie just posts random videos of Finnick and their son on the internet and they always go viral because people have only ever seen Finnick as playboy extraordinare and now they see Finnick being a dumbass father who's trying his best and it's very endearing and 90% of the time the camera pans out to an unimpressed Johanna or Katniss and it's great

One thing I can't get over is that canonically, Katniss calls her mom "Mother" like some sort of repressed upper class Victorian child.

I wonder what came to be of Snow's granddaughter. We don't know much about Snow's children, but it's highly possible that they would go into hiding or at least keep a low profile, or maybe they would be charged for some crimes (again, there isn't enough information about them). But what about the girl?
I like the idea of Tigris somehow reaching out after the revolution, feeling protective of her. She would help her understand more about their family's past and ensure she was better than them. And after that, who knows? Maybe she moves to one of the Districts (if they still exist as we have known them) and lives far away from the Snow legacy.
.
.
.
And then I got carried away and started to imagine a story about Katniss' daughter and Snow's great-granddaughter meeting each other as teens/young adults. Because drama.

“Do you hunt them a lot? Does?”
He looks surprised at her question but still answers.
“When I can, yes. They fetch a good price at the Hobb, that is, when the butcher isn’t interested.”
“The Hobb? You mean the old warehouse?”
“Yeah, it’s kind of, I guess you'd call it a black market.”

my aesthetics :
the second quarter quell generation, pt one (aka the generation with all the principal characters’ parents, and then also haymitch)
#thg#hunger games#haymitch abernathy#Katniss everdeen#Peeta mellark#maysilee donner#thgedit#okay so in order this goes#Haymitch Haymitch’s girl katniss’s parents Peeta’s parents and then the donner twins#i will make a part 2 with the characters if I can think of more than gales parents#if I can’t hazelle and her husband will be retroactively added into this one#myaesthetics#myedit#ya lit aesthetic#ya lit edit#and yeah this may be shameless promo one day for my lil 2nd quarter quell ficcy#which is why the little title for Mr E is confusing !!! because a lot of this is about my made up lore!!! his mom is Maude ivory but she#disappeared when he was a child#which is why Katniss knows nothing about her own gramma!!!#ok anyways if I ever write it all the little titles will make sense but for now they’re confusing because I made this specially for me for#my made up headcanons that make no sense to anyone else lololololol#oh oh oh also I put black eyes in both Katniss’ mom and Peeta’s mom’s edits for a reason!!!#ok so like I always interpreted it that abuse in the merchant class was more common#like what Peeta obviously went through at home was actually normalized in his circle#and it’s also implied Katniss’ mom was shunned by her parents for marrying Katniss’ dad so I figure they couldn’t have been good parents#and then Peeta’s mom Ruby also has blood on her own hands because we know she one day is abusive to her own kids so it’s like#she experienced abuse and then continues the terrible circle#but obviously Katniss’ mom lavender does not! she has other issues though but the young version is so fun to play with#also young Haymitch and his girl here would be the most judgey pretty couple#I have lots of headcanons for them some of which I’ve entwined already into at least one of my fics

Living in a post-Marvel world, nothing frustrates me more than the newfound expectation that movies absolutely *must* have mid/end credit scenes, and that all movies will become massive Star-Wars-esque franchises.
I remember a time where you watch a movie, say "Wow! That was a really good movie!", and that was that. Now, the more common sentiment seems to be "Wow! What a good movie! Can't wait to see the sequel, and the TV spin-offs, and the movies that take place at the same time as this one!". Movies aren't allowed to be standalone anymore. Not everything has to be intimately connected.
This goes double for sequels/prequels. Not every good/popular movie needs a dozen movies to flesh out every single minute detail from the original movie. Movies are allowed to have open endings without leading into eighteen more movies to drag the story out for a decade or more.
Also, movies set in the same universe do not have to be directly related to each other in inextricable ways. I will die on the hill that references do not equate to direct links between characters in different movies.
