He honors Wei Ying's memory by doing good without doubt. He did not wait for a dead man to come back to life. He would move on from the hurtful past, never to fall again but not waiting for that lost love. I just want him moving on from Wei Ying's death, and honoring his memory of him. Can't convince me otherwise.

Wangji remembers very well his punishment. He remembers the news of the Siege of the Burial Mounds, the events of the Nightless City and what came before. It all still feels like an open wound.

When he wakes up back during the Sunshot Campaign and is greeted by Wei Ying, still alive and smiling at him, he realizes he has a chance at changing things.

Even if things are not as quite as he remembers.

Lan Wangji opened his mouth to respond, but suddenly someone else burst into the library.

It was Jiang Cheng.

Lan Xichen was astonished to find that his robes were soaked and his hair was mangled. He was taking in large gulps of air and there was a fierce scowl on his face as droplets of water dripped from his uniform to the floor.

Lan Xichen would’ve never verbally made a comparison between his husband and a water demon but-

“Wanyin-?”

“He pushed me into the Cold Springs!” Jiang Cheng yelled, glaring at Lan Wangji who pointedly avoided his gaze.

Both Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian froze, looking back and forth between their brothers, waiting for Lan Wangji to refute Jiang Cheng’s claim, but a denial never came.

The ears tickled against his bare throat, it brought a slight chuckle out of his lips. If cultivators could speak in their animal forms, Wei Ying did not doubt that the words that will come out of his mouth would be ‘shameless!’

Everyone knows the stories of the Yiling Laozu and what he can accomplish with just a whistle, but Lan Wangji need only remind himself that the Yiling Laozu only attacks the young, the attractive, the obnoxiously wealthy for the fear of danger to dissipate.

“That’s some curse,” the man says now, and Lan Wangji turns around as quickly as his aching joints will allow to find the man himself standing on the path behind him, arms crossed over his exposed (!) chest and a smirk on his lips.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lan Wangji replies stiffly. “I am simply here to join your Sect.”

The Yiling Laozu throws his head back and laughs, the sound ringing off the dead, twisted trees around them and exposing the long line of his throat. Lan Wangji’s eyes track it unconsciously, starting at his smiling mouth, his perfect teeth (no fangs, he’s relieved to see, despite what the storytellers in the village claim).

(Although he never thought he could be, Jiang Cheng is happy with his life. He has a wonderful husband and nephew, and he's long since reconciled with the rest of his family. But he's suddenly forced to confront his past. His younger self, still grieving and spiteful over losing everything, is brought to the future, along with a baby Jin Ling. Pain and healing ensue.)

Lotus Pier was an explosion of color, the vendors’ bright banners contrasting with the soft pink and green of the lotus ponds. The purple standard of the Jiang Clan flew from the tops of pavilions, fluttering against the azure sky. Every part of the landscape was saturated with color. The white robes of the Lan Sect were the only negative space, their perfect jade white looking unnatural and leached of life in the midst of Lotus Pier’s bustling docks. Sounds and smells assaulted them from every side, as if the docks themselves were affronted by their colorless silence.

Worried about his little brother's solitary nature and lack of friends, Lan Xichen convinces his uncle to send fifteen year old Lan Wangji and a group of GusuLan disciples to study at Lotus Pier under the pretense of improving intersect relations.

Birdsong, by lilcakes

He grabs the washcloth that lay beside the pot and dips it into the cooling water and makes gentle work of cleaning A-Yuan’s face and hands from the dirt and ash that litter his tiny body. He wonders, for a moment, if Wei Wuxian were here, would he care for A-Yuan the same way.

If he were here, he would not be needing to care for a sickly child, the thought leaves something bitter burning deep in his chest and he shakes himself of the thought before continuing his meticulous work.

Almost as soon as Lan Wangji has little A-Yuan’s face cleaned, and a clean warm washcloth over his forehead, Lan Xichen makes another appearance.

“Wangji. Please.” Cautiously, as though he’s afraid that if he moves too quickly, his brother will break, Lan Xichen steps into his sleeping quarters. “Didi, rest. Let me change your bandages.”

Or 13 years Wangji grieved and raised his son by himself and the 1 year he didn't have to.

But, After All, I Am A Wen, by theleakypen

Jiang Cheng holds out the comb to Wen Qing. This is a bad time for giving gifts of affection, but he doesn’t know if he’ll ever have a better. “If anything happens to you in the future,” he says, “come find me and I will help you again.”

Wen Qing takes the comb and the promise and makes her way to Qinghe to see that the promise is fulfilled.

“I have found my brother, but I need help to rescue him from the Qishan Wen sect. Jiang-zongzhu— Jiang Wanyin, if you can help me rescue him and bring him back, I would be forever grateful.”
